the big backlash against it was because the villain of the game stalks you, and people were outraged that 1. there wasn't a comprehensive enough content warning (iirc it said the story contained stalking, but was not clear that you, personally, were getting stalked, or if it was that an NPC has stalking as part of their backstory, or something else entirely) 2. people backed the game on kickstarter and were totally unaware that stalking was going to be an element of the narrative at all 3. people were aghast that they would dare to include something so heinous as stalking, and took that as a personal reflection on the writers and VAs who made the game (i remember some people telling Octopimp, who did the voice acting for the villain, that him being willing to take such a role was A Bad Look and made him seem Suspicious)

none of these were my complaints!!!! while i think some of them might have some merit (the third one, of course, is without merit entirely, and i think the second one is kind of dubious, because not getting what you expected from a kickstarter is kind of the kickstarter experience, and they make you agree that you understand that when you back one. the first one is fine i guess. its not content that i personally would need to be warned for, so im not the best person to say what would and would not constitute a sufficient warning for it) it was very shocking for me to come online and see that thats why people didnt like the game, because i hated it for being boring as shit babytown frolic.

its been a while since i played the game, obviously, so my memory might be imperfect, but as i remember it, heres how the story goes: you get set up on a date with the guy who turns out to be the villain of the game. he cant turn into a weapon (when the whole premise of the game was "date people who turn into weapons and then use them as weapons going through the dungeon crawler part") and hes honestly really weirdly hateful about people who can. the dialogue options you have regarding this guy (talking to or about him) do not give you an option to say you like him at all. you hate him. the game has decided you hate him. maybe you can be POLITE but you cant like him. he stalks you, and everyone you know is immediately on your side, believes he is stalking you, and does everything in their power to protect you. the person who set you up on the date apologizes for letting you come into contact with him. after you defeat the villain and foil his schemes (he tried to make a human/weapon shifter from scratch, it turned evil, you had to defeat it to save him and everyone else) he admits that he was wrong, and says he needs to go to therapy

i just felt like the whole storyline was so basic and soft and inconsequential that i found it almost insulting. the villain is so obviously signposted, and so cartoonishly evil, and everyone is so immediate to denounce him and agree that hes evil, i just dont know why they bothered? it was so juvenile. no one tried to downplay the danger this guy posed, no one tried to defend him even for a second (to the point that it makes it really odd that anyone would set you up on a date with him? like, why are you so ready to believe this guy you wanted me to date is evil?) why make this be the plot of your game if youre so unwilling to engage with it? if you want to talk about stalking, lets fucking talk about it!

also, the villain was the only white man in the whole game, which is not a PROBLEM, but it felt like the devs expected it to blow my mind (WOAH THIS GUY LOOKS LIKE THE HERO BUT HES THE VILLAIN???? WHAT!!!!!!) but ive seen it a million times before, so im not like. impressed? why does there need to be a white man in here at all? why are these people friends with this one random white guy who is also like. a bigot? idk this is maybe a nothing complaint, but it rubbed me the wrong way. combined with the really soft, inconsequential plot (the villain literally says he needs to go to therapy at the end! cmon!!!) and the games marketing, which leaned heavily on its diversity, it made the game feel like it was making fun of me, almost. like, "this is what you fucking snowflakes want, right? go, fetch!"

and then to find people offended by even THAT much, demanding even LESS plot, even LESS consequence... well, it was jarring, i guess.

also i didnt like any of the love interests and for a game marketed heavily on its diversity, there sure aint a diversity of body types!!!!!

idk. i guess its not a BIG deal that this one random indie game was bad. they cant all be Dream Daddy!!!!!!! but oh. it vexes and haunts me.

i am a relentless hater but also if im impolite I'll be shot dead in the street so when i saw a tiktok comment that said "if you liked Hades, you should play Boyfriend Dungeon", instead of replying "yeah or you could like. play a good game instead" like i WANTED TO instead i just closet tiktok. where's my medal

People's drama with Chris. P comes down to a few things;

He's a member of a church collective that promotes traditionalist views such as divorce being a sin, pre-marital sex being a sin, homosexuality being a sin, ect. Although Chris has openly stated multiple times that the specific location he attends near his home does not strictly follow those beliefs and that they supported him through his divorce, have gay members, ect.

He surrendered his elderly cat under the stipulations that as she required care, constant supervision and dedication that he simply could not give her at the time. He was filming multiple MCU projects at the time. His cat was pretty sick and really old and needed round the clock care. Lots of people were angry because they felt like he could've kept the cat but paid someone or asked family to look after her.

Lots of people think he's homophobic but I've never actually managed to find any concrete evidence as to why. Its all just been 'well he's part of this church/he supports Trump' and a bunch of weird tinhatting stuff.

When the whole 'Worst Chris' thing happened and his cast mates posted in his defence, people got super riled up and said they were all misogynists because none of them came to Brie Larson's defence. Chris himself never really addressed it and it all just died down but people still use it as ammo.

The whole thing about Trump. Which honestly just spiralled way out of control to the point where people were claiming he was funding Conservative and Republican rallies/movements, that he was brainwashing his fans, ect.

Okay that's more-or-less what I thought. It seems to me like people who already don't like him for one reason or another are looking for some "better" reason to justify not liking him. The bit about the cat seems especially reaching. Like, I get that him being a Christian is a big red flag to a lot of people, I've got my own complicated history with the church that I'm not gonna get into here but trust me, I get it, but while but a lot of (read: most) Christians tend to be shitty people, being a Christian doesn't inherently make someone a shitty person. I understand how some of what he's said and done could be interpreted as misogynistic, especially without broader context, but I mostly get the sense that a lot of the hate is built on heresay and rumor and bad PR to the point that now its become fashionable to shit on him, justified or not.

Maybe I just don't know the whole story, but maybe none of us do so we should give people a break and let them be people who sometimes make mistakes and learn from them?

About to lose it. A rant about buzzwords and head canon hypocrisy.

When you accuse someone of being homophobic in the wrong context, you delegitimize that word. Saying that someone has no basis of being gay and assuming that they are gay is exactly the same as someone assuming that someone is straight with no basis. I don't care what you headcanon. The point is, don't you dare call those who delegitimize your argument for the same reason you delegitimize theirs, homophobic. Especially If it is 2 sides of the same coin. If you want to go down that road then you'd be heterophobic (and just so you know, that’s still not okay either). Asking why you decided to make this character gay and that it doesn't make sense to the continuity of the show is not homophobic. Questioning someone's sexuality and demeaning them for it is. Saying "those characters can't be gay because it's disgusting" is very homophobic. Don't delegitimize one sides arguments if you are going to turn around and cry "homophobe" if they do the same to you. Don't use that word like a random buzzword. And don't use it to look as if you are suddenly in the right when you are also in the wrong. Also, stop using it to delegitimize an argument in the wrong situation. Ship who you want and they can't force you otherwise. But stop calling those who simply disagree for a constructive reason "homophobic". Buzzwords will be the fucking death of this world. Use the word right or not at all.

Under this cut is in response to a specific rant made by someone about me and i’d like to let my piece be known. I am the “homophobic anon” and you will find out why i don’t care what you call me under the cut.

Now on to that bullshit you call a rant

1) The point of highlighting that phrase was because it didn’t just say “dude what the hell are you doing” he specifically stated “What are you doing taking off ANOTHER MAN’S shirt” This isn’t about the sexual harassment. It’s about the wording. Obviously Yuma didn’t appreciate a man, SPECIFICALLY A MAN, ripping his shirt off. It does’t matter about previous relationship. Even if you hated someone, why would you specify why are you ripping off “ANOTHER MAN’S shirt”. Why would you point out the fact that he is of the same gender as you if it didn’t matter? 

2) I chose Laito because he is extremely aroused by the thought of watching another man have sex with a woman and the thought of it makes him aroused. He physically doesn’t care who is doing it as long as the act of sex is getting preformed. Which does hint at some pansexuality or bisexuality. Kou? I did choose him because the way he carries himself. 

3) Im so tired of hearing this same recycled bullshit. These boys have been portrayed as straight by Rejet. They have only been portrayed by rejet as liking girls. If they wanted to portray them as any other sexuality, they would have hinted at it at the very least. They fight tooth and nail for ownership of the heroine. Just because something isn’t clear doesn’t make it fact. If it’s not clearly stated either way you can’t use that as an argument. That’s like saying “Ayato is not Asexual” so you assume that he’s transgender? What kind of sense does that make? Saying “I like girls” doesn’t suddenly mean they are bi nor does it allude to it it can contribute but it is not grounds to say that. So that’s not an argument. Second part of this post you talk about gender roles. Obviously this game was made for girls and even if a guy were to play it, that doesn’t change the game in the slightest. If a boy played with barbie dolls does barbie suddenly become a man to fit their demographics? You can say “Sure” but that doesn’t make it an adamant truth. But don’t be alarmed when someone tells you Barbie is portrayed to be a cis-woman and not a man. If you are going to project something onto a character, fine, but don’t sit around and CRY when people say, “That’s not how the relationship really is”. Nobody is saying “You can’t be here” Just stop acting flip when someone says anything that goes against your agenda and engage in constructive arguments instead of hitting block when someone challenges an idea. FFS

4) If you knew how the mind work and how children actually learn to make opinions and have opinions in the first place you’d realize that this point is bulllshit. Yuma was a child in the church, no doubt about that. His environment was made up of centuries ago church teachings. Whether you denounced god or not, you still hold onto some of those morals and teachings. You don’t just become a blank slate. You can learn, but those morals will always be there whether you change them or not. How do you know that he just doesn’t like gays? He won’t say that they are going to hell. But he may find them off putting. There’s simply no way to know. Unless of course you ask Rejet. You can head canon all you want to. But someone is always going to challenge that. Unless you have definable evidence, someone is going to find a way to challenge your thought. That’s what your brain is for. To think.

5) What is your point? There are plenty of LGBT catholics. I know some too.  However most were afraid to come out due to the church and how they would be seen. The only reason for gays being prosecuted WAS the church after the fall of the roman empire. The argument stands that if you are homophobic and religious then often times your hate stems from those teachings. Religion and the LGBT community are still at odds in case you forgot about Westboro Baptist Church. Damn it’s like you don’t watch the news at all. 

6) Tellling a bi person that the character that they don’t personally know, FAVORITE or not, might have conflicting views is logical and is called begging the question. How do you know Yuma’s stance on the LGBT community? I don’t care how hard you shutter. Using your brain shouldn’t be that painful. You don’t know a damn thing about these boys political lives. For all we know all of these boys could be the most homophobic, racist, sexist, ablest, ageist bastards on the planet and you would have no fucking clue. We already know that they are sexist and ableist and in lost eden, some were racist against the ghouls. So what is stopping them from being homophobic? That’s right, your mental barrier. You and i could be totally ignorant to that fact forever if rejet doesn’t say anything in any capacity. Does that matter to your head canon? No, and it shouldn’t. But when people challenge your idea’s don’t make a fucking mockery of yourself by just throwing around buzzwords and prance around thinking you’ve won (or defended yourself for that matter) after blocking them. 

7) I don’t know if you know this, but you don’t understand the definition of the word homophobia. Besides, How do you know why they disagree with you if you block everyone the moment the go against your idea? You don’t know why these people disagree with your choice in head canon because you are to scared to engage with them. You assume it’s because they “don’t like gays”. That’s not true if you just fucking ask them instead of straw manning them to get to your own conclusion and look like righteous LGBT friendly SJW blog owner. So you have no right to call anybody “homophobic” when you are so closed off to another way of thinking. Even if it is in the LGBT community. Just because you are an oppressed minority doesn’t make everything you say undeniable fact and if you disagree you are *Insert -ist/est, -phobic, here*. 

Don’t fucking play with me and paint me as an enemy. I will show my face as “Homophobic” anon. Cause that word carries no value with the way you use it towards me. If you see this. I’m going to set aside the random insults – I have every right to be getting on with my life and work rather than live by the schedule of fanatics on twitter. It’s not relevant.   I vouched for D because JoKa asked me directly to clarify what I understood D role to have been. It has nothing to do with how many twitter followers D has. I don’t know what it is you think I should be doing exactly but I can’t defend what you co-authored and signed because I don’t defend it. Stop trying to make me responsible for your decisions and the actions of others. That doesn’t mean I think anything about what has taken place since is acceptable, as you well know. Nor does it mean I’m beyond understanding the complexity of why things happened the way they did, and came out in the form they did. Or that I don’t have my own criticisms about how we approached things as we did. That’s why I’ve been open to resolution and moving on. It’s also why I’ve spent the last years denouncing this strand of political culture, for which I’ve also been made a persona non grata. i would still like it down. as of this latest wave of crap, as with before, my (redacted) notifications on people googling me has gone from about 1 in a couple of months to 100 in a few days, im also getting lots of hits on my (redacted) - more than usual - im assuming somehow the leftist men on there can work out who i am). i would add that now i have had to put extreamly personal information about myself online on aa and al pages in relation to all this it obviously will be a matter of time before i get trolls and threats that are much more violent than i have been enduring up to now, and so will the others such is the nature of doxing not least with what we have all been smeared with).
