BIOGRAPHY

senya's father don was a very bigoted man who seemed to be anti-everything so of course after the cataclysm of 2023, he became very bigoted against changed people. their mother was skeptical but also far more accepting. when aiden's power of pyrokinesis manifested after a heated argument with their dad, their mom was the one who convinced don not to try and kill aiden on the spot. however, don took to berating, antagonizing, or ignoring, aiden and acted similarly toward senya when she stood up for him or took his side.

at some point during a fight between aiden and their dad, senya touched aiden's hand as his fists became engulfed in flames but she didn't get burned. the interaction was enough to stop the fight temporarily as no one was quite sure what to make of it. but of course within days the two were at it again. this time senya got dragged into it, making her angry.

according to aiden, flames appeared in her eyes and then shot from her hands, narrowly missing her father. enraged, her father lunged but her mother intervened. their father shoved their mother out of the way and came at senya full force. aiden stepped in front of her.

no one knows for sure how exactly the twins' mother died from this ordeal. their father claims one if not both of them killed her while the twins are adamant that their mother fatally hit her head when their father shoved her. the end result was that the only thing keeping their father from trying to kill them was gone. fearing for their lives, the twins ran, and they kept running until they found the hub.

raina took senya and aiden to get all of their vaccines growing up in secret because don was against them. the twins also got the 2M2X3I in secret for this reason.

took kickboxing and ballet from a young age.

she was a public relations major in college.

she has 13 piercings in each ear because her father once told her if she pierced any other body part he would rip it out. she's sure he would kill her if he saw her tattoos.

in order for senya to gain a power she just has to touch the person who has it. one of the only powers she hasn't been able to add to her collection is pain immunity because her boss ramona won't let her. senya is not quite sure how ramona is able to keep her from obtaining the ability since a person's willingness to pass their power doesn't affect her ability to obtain it.

her first acquired power was pyrokinesis. she didn't realize she had power replication, she thought she'd just developed the same ability her brother had. she didn't find out she had power replication until she reached the hub.

she has found that there are certain powers she can't seem to use in their entirety. for example: when it comes to shapeshifting the most she can do is change her hair ( color and length ). when it comes to healing she cannot heal herself and can only heal a certain severity of wounds on others.

this is pretty random, but do you have a favorite appearance aaliyah's done? I always find myself thinking about her essence 2001 look. the color of the dress is so pretty, and it's such a simple yet beautiful look. I was wondering if you had any that you think of a lot/ strongly associate with her? hope you're doing good!

I do! And I have so many favorites it's so hard to choose one 😅 so I'll do like a short list of my top 3 favorite appearances she's done.

1. So first off, her outfit from the 2000 Teen Choice Awards is hands down my favorite look, and that's just because it fits with my personal preference lol. The chains on the leather pants and the crop top tee, that was such an underrated iconic look. It's hard for me to say anything else about it because all I can think about are those pants!

2. The second one that is my favorite is the white outfit and the long white coat she wore during the premiere for Anastasia. It's a very classy outfit that also stuck to the "street but sweet" image she had, but she also looked so angelic and her coat reminded me of the red coat she wore for her music video for Anastasia.

3. Her dress at the 2001 MTV Movie Awards is definitely my favorite. Not only is it my favorite dress, but it was like everything about her outfit screamed Aaliyah. It was a little revealing, but she kept it classy and felt comfortable in it, much like her sex appeal because she was comfortable in her own skin and felt sexy and knew how to flaunt it in her own tasteful way. Also this was one of the few times we've actually seen her start wearing dresses, so it's like a transformation seeing her blossom from a tomboy wearing baggy jeans and shades to a full-fledged woman and still maintaining her mysterious image and keeping it feminine. Also, she's wearing a black dress and gold earrings, which are her favorite colors (black and gold). Everything about her appearance looked natural and elegant, and said a lot about her as a person.

April 13th, 2000

Éclosion was a town of over 25,000 citizens in France. It was a suburb a few hours from Paris, and was known as one of the safer towns in France.

On April 13th, in the year 2000, the entire population of Éclosion instantly died from an “unknown” cause.

To most of the world, it was a bizarre tragedy, something to be marked down as an unsolved mystery for the history books. Each citizen had simultaneously suffocated within a few minutes of being exposed to… something.

Something that could not leave behind a physical trace of its existence yet was so overwhelming it simultaneously strangled over 25,000 living beings within Éclosion.

To a very small group of people, they knew the truth.

That town did not die by ordinary means, rather, from the sheer spiritual pressure exerted by a very dangerous being.

To that small group of people, they assumed it was the work of a curse.

Curses were created when cursed energy leaked from humans as a result of their human emotion. Cursed energy would build up in areas like sediment until it is strong enough to manifest a form. They were known to be lethal when left alone.

Populated locations such as schools and hospitals are hot spots for creating curses because many negative emotions were associated with those places. The same concept applies humanity's collective fear and hatred. An image of fear shared by the masses can create a powerful curse even if the subject was not real, such as famous monsters or ghosts. The negative emotions that humanity directed at that singular fear would cause it to manifest as a curse and in time… a cursed spirit.

Cursed spirits’ bodies are entirely made up of cursed energy--or spiritual energy. Their metaphysical existence made it impossible for normal humans to perceive or touch them.

Only a small group of humans were able to interact with cursed spirits, and in turn, combat them.

They were known as Jujutsu Sorcerers.

Jujutsu Sorcerers formed a society over the past thousands of years to work in the shadows to supress curses in an effort to protect humanity. All Jujutsu Sorcerers were trained in their youth at one of the two Jujutsu educational facilities in either Tokyo or Kyoto in Japan. At those facilities, they were taught how to utilize their own cursed energy in order to exorcise cursed spirits.

After graduating, alumni Sorcerers who remain aligned with the schools typically used one of the two facilities as a home base. Those facilities served as the cornerstone for the Jujutsu Sorcerer community. They mediated issues, assigned missions, and officially established a payroll for all their employed exorcists. The higher-ups were in charge of the schools and by extension all Jujutsu sorcerers.

Sorcerers would be dispatched wherever they found a gathering of cursed spirits. They were dispatched based on how strong they are in comparison to the spirit they face. The jujutsu society would rank spirits--and Sorcerers--like so:

And so while the majority of the world was in a panicked frenzy over the mysterious massacre, the Jujutsu world was in a different kind of panic.

For a spirit that went beyond their measurement system had just been born… and they had no way of dealing with it.

Again.

Lilly stared in grim resignation at the hanging corpse. The woman didn’t even reach her thirties before throwing in the towel. The body swayed side by side, still warm. Still leaking. The woman hadn’t hung herself from far up enough to snap her neck, so she strangled slowly and painfully.

Dumbass, Lilly thought, finding it hard to scrounge up sympathy for the woman.

Woman could have saved herself the painful death if she just chugged sleeping pills with wine.

But people that desperate to flee reality rarely thought that rationally.

“Geh,” Lilly gasped, clutching at her head as another burst of pain shot through her. She was blinded, her vision going completely white at the influx of memories.

She fell to her knees, struggling to breathe from the intense pain. Her body quaked and trembled, unable to cope with the weight of her soul.

Too many memories. Too many lives. Too many deaths.

If she could forget then the body would carry on without needing her entire soul to be there. She could rest a bit more. She could sleep in death’s kind arms--

But, no.

Again.

She woke up again in a body too small and immature to handle the weight of her memories.

Lilly was what many referred to as an old soul.

It was not that her soul was older than the others around her, more so that her soul tended to retain the memories and knowledge of her previous lives.

Whereas death granted most souls a clean slate before their next life, Lilly was not permitted the same courtesy.

She was, mockingly, a Blessed being.

The pain subsided, the small body quivering.

How old am I now? Lilly wondered. Which world is this? Where--?

Panting, the old soul glanced around the house. Most of it looked like an average house on Earth from the early 2000s or late 1900s. None of it was in disarray so probably not apocalyptic.

Not completely normal though, Lilly thought, feeling how sensitive her spiritual energy was in her current body.

If was born in a powerless world, she wouldn’t have woken up. The fact that she woke up meant there was something about that world that made it special.

Maybe a Hero will be born here? Will a Story happen?

Her head throbbed again, her soul and energy aching from the strain of being awoken in a premature body. Lilly stumbled around the house, every so often feeling another spike of her insides burning.

It was not too dissimilar to swallowing lava. On top of the pain, she was nauseous, unbearably hot, and had significant difficulty in trying to focus on what was in front of her. Every step was a milestone. Her soul yearned to burst out of the fragile body, to preemptively rejoin death.

Not yet. I woke up here for a reason. There’s always a reason, Lilly thought. She fumbled around the house, searching for anything that could give her a better idea of where she was.

No computer. I think I see a landline phone, though, Lilly thought.

When she went to use it, however, only silence could be heard. She frowned, then hesitantly moved to flick on the lights.

Nothing happened.

Uwa… did I accidentally fry the tech trying to contain my energy? Lilly wanted to groan.

She hated being reborn in tech-sensitive worlds. If her spiritual energy was too overwhelmign for the technology, it became such a hassle. It meant she had to consciously filter, repress, and refine her energy any time she had to use it when around technology.

Whatever.

Time to find a neighbor then, she thought.

Stepping outside the house, Lilly found a bizarre scene. There was a mailman who collapsed right at the door, and judging from how still he was, she could tell he wasn’t breathing.

Lilly stared at the dead body. She looked up and found several crashed cards and more dead bodies.

Oh.

“Oops,” she said.

March 8, 2001

Lilly was minding her own business the following day. Yuuta was swaddled and placed in a baby wrap carrier that Lilly tied around herself. She kept his head well supported, it rested in the crook of her neck.

It had been a while since she had repeatedly cast so many illusionary and compulsion spells. She knew it couldn’t be helped--she was in the body of a seven-year old, of course the adults wouldn’t take her too seriously.

She had finished authenticating his birth certificate, adoption papers, and was on her way to handle funeral arrangements for his mother. Lilly had already made a few tentative and brief ventures into the world to steal (shamelessly) steal money so she had cash on hand in case the woman hadn’t made prior plans for herself--which guessing by how optimistic she was, Lilly assumed the answer was no.

Yuuta was an easy crier, which made what would have been a thirty-minute errand into a two-hour errand since a lot of that time was spent soothing the infant.

Lilly could feel he had more spiritual energy inside him than some of the adults she had previously encountered, but it was still growing.

If her hunch was correct and he was a protagonist--or antagonist--then she figured his energy would only continue to grow.

Maybe I should start feeding him some of mine? Lilly pondered. If she doubled or tripled the raw power of someone important, what would Fate do? Would it increase the power levels of everyone else to match, or would it give away under her pressure?

She didn’t know the story--if there was one in that world--so she had no way of knowing what to anticipate. She could only catch the common signs and draw her own predictions from her past experiences.

Let’s find out, Lilly thought.

Daiki Choki was had recently completed his mission to vanquish an A-Grade Curse at a nearby graveyard. It had gone much smoother than he anticipated, and the Jujutsu Sorcerer was looking forward to his pay.

As he was leaving the graveyard, however, he felt something… odd.

It was indescribable. A sensation he had never encountered.

Similar… very similar… to encountering a powerful Curse, but…

It was a Curse, yet it was not.

It clearly had a presence. He felt an uncomfortable heat wash over him, as if the thing was projecting an aura of fire, but it was not malicious. Curses were filled with malevolent bloodlust, but what he felt lacked that intensity.

It was still dangerous, that heat.

Perhaps not directly evil, but…

If he had to put it into words, it was as if he had stumbled across a forest fire. The fire held no ill-will, but it was still a dangerous force that if left unchecked would devour the entire forest.

Daiki did not feel that it was especially powerful, however, so he made his way over to it.

To his surprise, it took the form of a small girl holding something in a budle of cloth. She was entering the funeral parlor.

Daiki frowned. Curses had never looked human before.

Suppose there’s always a chance it’s possessing her corpse, Daiki thought. He may not have encountered that specific scenario before, but he didn’t see a reason why it couldn’t happen.

Curses weren’t human, but they were tricky by nature.

Daiki lingered outside the mortician’s office, wondering if he would need to follow after the curse. He hated fighting near civilians, but--

The Curse left, as if sensing something was wrong.

But that’s silly, thought Daiki.

It headed straight past the building, making its way to the graves behind. Daiki followed behind it, slowly pulling his gun.

The Curse stopped, turning around to face Daiki. Its eyes were a vibrant red.

“Why are you focusing on me?” it asked.

Oddly articulate for a curse, the Sorcerer thought, raising his gun and taking aim. He smirked. “Don’t worry about it, Curse.”

“Curse? What--?”

He fired, and then his whole world tilted upside down. He hadn’t even felt it happening, let alone seen it, but somehow his head had been chopped off his body the moment he pulled the trigger. The Curse, who had been several steps ahead of him, was suddenly crushing his gun in her bare hand, scowling at him.

“If I had let that gone off, you woulda woken him,” she scolded the decapitated head. “Rude.”

Winx Club: mini fashion analysis

When Netflix released the new trailer for the live action series, Winx Club. There was a lot of uproar. The most talked about on being the fashion. If you aren’t aware the show is about, I’ll give you the summary. A girl name Bloom discovers she’s a fairy when she says another fairy name Stella. Bloom and her friends goes through a lot of mission and rivals with the witches and even spark some romances with the boys from red fountain. Like many 2000s shows that catered to young girls like Bratz and totally spies. Fashion has always been a big in the show than you might think. So, when the new trailer came out and many of characters are darks and greys, it came to no surprise that there would be sheer hatred towards it. Netflix and many others have this thing by having the first season take place around Autumn and have the characters wearing dark and neutral to fit the narrative. I’ve already made my own inspired outfits on each of the girls, but I wanted to go into more details as to what each girl would wear based on their personality, interests and even colours themselves.

Bloom- we’ll start off with the main protagonist. In the series, Bloom is an ordinary girl who finds out that she’s a fairy due to her saving another fairy’s life. It’s also revealed that she was adopted and sets out on a quest to not only learn become a fairy but also find her real parents. In show,Bloom is mostly seen wearing a crop top and denim jeans, but she also seen wearing skirts as the show progresses. Because she was raised in the human world, Bloom’s go to style is mostly in casual look. Although many of the girls have their own casual looks despite some of them being princesses. Each of the girl’s fashion and accessories can also be more connected to their powers, meanwhile Bloom who lives on Earth for the majority of her life is more into normal look but as the show progresses she doesn’t add stylish whether it be the help of Stella. Bloom’s colour scheme is Blue. Although the colours Blue represents colour of the ocean and sky. It symbolise introspective journeys and the depth of understanding. Throughout the series, Bloom is learning about life as a fairy due to her living on Earth since she was a baby. While everybody has more experience with the fairy world, Bloom is seen as the odd one out. On, the other hand, Blue can also have an effect on the pituitary gland by affecting someone’s pattern of sleep. This also connects to Bloom during the series especially in Season 1. Bloom is having a hard time falling asleep because of her ambitions to figure who this daphne woman is that’s been haunting her in her sleep and even awake. She is also seen adding some pinks in her outfit. While I see Bloom going off the casual look than her friends do also see her having a feminine look as as well.

Stella- she’s the first fairy that Bloom meets and convinces her to go to Alfea when she believes that Bloom is a fairy like her. Stella has an outgoing personality who loves to shine and have the spotlight on her. Despite all that, Stella does have her own hardship with one of it being her parent’s divorce which took a toll on her. Out of all the girls, Stella appears to be more stylish even when she does wear her everyday outfit. Stella mostly seen wearing skirts, dresses and tube tops throughout the series. So, She should be wearing outfits that are seen as stylish and also fashion accessories that fits her best. I also see Stella wearing different variety of clothing and also being in with the trend that’s is she’s like them, this is due to her obsession with fashion. I don’t know who’s idea was to have Stella be dressed in black but that’s not her colour at all. Stella’s colour schemes is mostly Orange which fits more with the fact that her powers involves around the sun and also the moon. The colour orange is associated with joy and sunshine, which does fit the character of Stella. It is seen as an fun and bright colour. It’s also worth noted that orange trees are a symbol of love which fits Stella perfectly because in the series, one of the things she does is try playing matchmaker for her friends. The word ‘love’ does fit with Stella than you might think despite being selfish at times, she does care for her friends and will do anything for them. She loves her boyfriend even though lied to her about his real name and didn’t care that he wasn’t a prince. She loves her parents that the fact they aren’t together anymore hurts her but knows it’s for the best. Stella’s fashion should contain the colour orange and her go to style is mostly in skirts and dresses.

Musa- she is introduced when her and Techna come to Alfea. Known as the music fairy, Musa loves playing instruments, singing and dancing. Looking into her fashion, she appears to have a tomboyish look where her go to colours are mostly red, black and later on light purple. Since Musa’s style is more like tomyboyish looks than she should be wearing baggy pants and because of her love for music, she should also be sporting headphones around and look like a DJ. Red is known to be an emotional colour and it fits Musa. Despite having a tough look, Musa is the most vulnerable out of the girls. Although she puts on tough act to protect her emotions, she is due to because the death of her mother and that her father lives far away. Musa is of Asian descent and the colour Red is seen as good luck in Asia and its most popular colour in China. My guess is that because she’s far away from her father and the death of mother did take a toll on her, her wearing something red feels like her mother is always with her.

Techna- Techna first appears in Alfea, the same time when Musa comes in. Techna is known as the brains of the group and is the fairy of technology. Her styles appears to give her a preppy look but with more maturity than the rest of her friends and because she’s into technology, I think her style in the live action should have futuristic aesthetic in it. Through her fashion, Techna is seen wearing mostly purple although seen more as a lavender type of colour. The colour lavender seen as more closely link to intuition and mystery. It’s more of a thinker rather than living the moment naturally, preferring to go into daydreaming or deep thinking. In the show, Techna is seen as self-confident and also perfectionist. She uses practical and logical thinking as way to express her emotions and the bases of the majority of desicions. However as the seasons progresses, Techna does become more open and friendly towards her friends. Techna’s emotions appears to play a meaning role in the show with her, It’s possible because of her being the fairy of technology, she appears act more like a robot or an Advanced A.I. at first using her logical thinking and her intelligence to being more kind-hearted, it’s also worth noting that her colour scheme can from lavender to lilac which encourages emotional expression.

Layla/Aisha- Layla or Aisha is the sixth member of the Winx Club. Layla first appears in Season 2, when she was trying to save the pixies by entering the Darkar’s fortress. Layla appears have an adventurous personality and also seems to be athletic. Through her fashion, she mostly wears khaki shorts which is appropriate clothing for hiking and because she’s an athlete, her fashion is more of a tomboy look. Layla’s colour scheme is green. The colour green is mostly associated with nature, this fits Layla due to her having an adventurous personality and how adventure is similar to saying going on a journey thus going outside and being with nature. Green also symbolises envy, while Layla doesn’t show any envious towards the girls. During her early appearance in the show, she feels to be left out in the group meaning that some envy towards the girls’ friendship and wish to have one like theirs. If they made the live-action version correctly, I do see her wearing army green romper since it’s fits her athletic personality.

Flora- We first see Flora in the same episode where Techna and Musa are introduced, however Flora already there when Stella and Bloom arrive at their dorms. Flora is the fairy of nature and is considered to the second most powerful fairy. When looking into Flora’s style, you can see that she prefer feminine clothing with it being skirts, dresses, puffy tops etc. In the live action, not only Flora should’ve been played by a Latina actress, her outfits should’ve been reminiscent like the cottagecore aesthetic. It’s fits Flora very well because the aesthetic has a softer vibe where you’re in a peaceful and just one with nature. Flora’s colour scheme appears to be pink. The colour, Pink symbolises youth, good health and playfulness. It’s also seen as romantic. Flora specialises with making potions out of her plants and also experimenting, she ends up becoming the potion master of the group by brewing and creating medicines, basically Flora is the healer of group which fits in with pink being a symbolism of health. Pink is associated with qualities such as softness, kindness, nurturance and complassion, this definitely fits Flora’s personality very well.

Potentially a Greek Odyssey...Crossing a continent...there are no rules

(Disclaimer: this whole blog is written on an iPhone)

I wonder if...

Any ancient explorer spent as much time as I have procrastinating about which way they’d travel to cross a continent, where they’d start, where they’d cross waters, which mountain range they should scale and where should be their final destination, how little they could get away with carrying and when was the best time to go and if they should drive to Heathrow and park or figure out the logistics to be able to cycle the whole way.

I could write a book about the dreaming and planning alone, and Ben Fogle wouldn’t have a patch on my stories, never mind the oceans and deserts he’s crossed. If I’m honest, he does have the job I’d now wish I’d had. Why has it taken me until I’m approaching the half-century (there are still a few years to go, just in case you thought I was looking REALLY good for my age, yes, I can hear that’s what you were thinking) to finally realise that is what I was destined to do. But now, where media favours youth and beauty, I wasn’t blessed with much of the latter and youth is a long way behind me. Accepting my fate, I will continue doing my job, dream about being (with) Ben Fogle, and aspire to challenge Judith Chalmers in my 70s.

If I consider my expedition, I have dreamed about it since I can remember looking at the illuminated globe and dark green, leather bound giant world atlas that adorned a dust-ridden, tar-stained shelf in our family home in Windsor. I have planned it in detail over 5 years and in countless iterations, and aborted 2 years running. And now, today, 10 days before I’m due to set off in some direction, it truly appears it might happen. The odds are even, but 10 days is 10 days. Nothing is certain.

Anyone who truly knows me will question my fitness, I’m sure. Can I really do this? Until this weekend, like last year’s abandoned plans to ride from East to West cost USA, I considered that I would again be “winging it”, hoping that the good genes I’ve inherited, and my clear stubbornness will see me through. My knee remains attached to me by a few stringy threads. I have worked out that any stray pieces of cartlidge that pop up from the one-time smooth head of my femur aren’t an enemy to stop me anymore. Like a splinter on a block of wood, provided the kneecap can plane the surface continuously, the pain and swelling will come and go as the surface is smoothed down again. Grit my teeth and keep moving until I can’t move anymore. It is a bit bonkers. But as there’s plenty of things that can stop you doing anything, multiplying as I get older. So, whilst I still can, I still will. It’s not a race, and I will make it to Athens. Which is the second flight I’ve booked for the same trip! The goal is to get to the finish line. Other than that, the rules are there are no rules.

April 13: 5 days to go: preamble to the ramble

The name to my expedition came to me this morning. It is the Transcontinental Odyssey and camera course. I am surrounded by photographers in my family. Dad a.k.a. Norm, was a photographer in his day and very talented. My brother-in-law was a professional photographer and till smart phones were invented. By association, my sister Jane is also a photographer. It is quite surprising that I know absolutely nothing about technicalities of photography! Aperture ISO and shutter speed could be part of an engine for all I know. Luckily, I have amazing neighbours who are also photographers. Almost correct: Jane, my neighbour is the long-suffering wife of a photographer and by association to Andrew who is a photographer. Given that all the Janes and Andrews that I know who are married contain at least one photographer, I stand a good chance also by association of being able to take good photographs. This is what I’m telling myself and the reason I’m prepared prepared to consider my new camera as my luxury item. At 300 g, it is my heaviest piece of kit that I will be carrying for over 2000 miles. There is a good incentive for me to make it count! Probably the reason that most people remain amateur photographers and now rely on smartphones is because the lessons on Aperture and shutter speed are very dry to say the least. My first lesson with Andrew on Friday night after work was helped along by two gin and tonic‘s made by Jane she doesn’t drink to make measures were approximately two thirds gin and one third tonic. This is known in photography circles as the rule of thirds. As I’m writing this post, I can tell you that my bod no longer responds to gin particularly well. That said,I had a very enjoyable evening learning about photography.

In all, my extra weight amounts to 4kg against my weight of 58kg. I thought I was heavier, and so I set off delighted that mentally, my net gained weight was 2kg (on the basis I thought I was 60kg).

These weight insights are invaluable. So, how is it that on my first day, not flat but hardly mountainous, and into a headwind, I have already started to create a package to send home. I practised carrying my life on my back on a ride to st David’s only 10 days ago and yet somehow, the backpack, aka Monkey has gained weight whilst I’ve lost. The Welsh guy deep in the Black Mountains where I recharged my phone were mightily impressed at my trans Wales trip that day. They’re a friendly bunch. [to which he then laughed to himself a lot]. “That’s where you’ll be staying for the night!” The interesting observation I picked up from this rowdy, bald, heavily tattooed Welshman is his sense of humour. So unique to Wales...

And so to bed. I have made my presence known in Marlborough. If you’re old enough to remember, picture this: Wayne Slob getting chicken and chips from the fish and chip shop. Yep. That’s me. That’s who I’ve become . I’m staying in the Bear Hotel which whilst a lovely room, is more expensive than my flight home from Kalamata that I won’t be taking. And whilst I wasn’t remotely hungry tonight, I have had to remind myself “eat for the ride you’re going to have, not for the one you’ve just had”

I watched Cartoon Network all day and I used to get so much inspiration from cartoon characters that probably followed me into my older years. Personality and fashion-wise. Have you ever wanted to dress similar to one of your favorite cartoon characters yet not wanting to look like a cosplay or costume? Well, you’ve come to the right gal because that is exactly what I am going to be helping you with but before I get onto the five examples, we must go over some basic knowledge. Fashion can say a lot about a character, especially in cartoons where the clothes rarely change. It has to be iconic yet true to the personality being demonstrated in some sense. Five things go into analyzing and copying a cartoon characters style: 1) Color Palette 2) Aesthetic 3) Overall Impression 4) Fashion Items 5) How It Shapes Their Personality? Ah yes, Daria Morgendorffer. My sarcastic twin. I started with Daria because this character is one of the more easier ones to analyze and recreate. Daria’s color palette includes green, yellow, black and brown if you include her hair. Now, you can become simple and see it just like that. Green, yellow, black and brown. But if you want to complicate it a bit and be more precise. Then her color palette would be dark greens (olives, forests, and dartmouth green). Dark yellow similar to mustard or occasionally an orange yellow. Chestnut brown or a reddish brown. You can limit your options to specific colors that will be more precise. The second thing to consider is her aesthetic, now Daria has a very laid-back aesthetic. Her whole running gag in the show is about how Daria doesn’t fall down to society’s standards when it comes to beauty as she doesn’t smile (unless there’s a special moment) and she doesn’t take as much time in her outfits as her younger and more popular sister, Quinn. Daria is very minimalistic as she isn’t one to horde a lot of clothing. She doesn’t wear makeup. Her aesthetic is being natural and effortless. The third thing to consider is the overall impression of their clothes to the world around them. Now this may seem odd but this is worth consideration because it depends on how you want to be taken. As people judge upon appearances and your clothes can say a lot about you. Daria’s fashion choices are usually attacked by her parents who think she could do a bit more effort and Quinn seeing her as outdated yet Daria doesn’t get a lot of criticism. Nor does she really face any backlash on how she dresses. It makes people not really want to be around her but she isn’t hated nor scorned. It’s a pretty simple style that is just there. The fourth thing to consider is fashion items, unless you are planning on copying Daria’s style piece by piece. It is great to really observe it and take pieces of it that may fit into her character yet is good for everyday use and not a cosplay. Remember, it’s all about inspiration. With Daria, I recommend oversized (possibly fit and flare) jackets or oversized, buttoned up cardigans. For tops, sweaters, short-sleeved mock necks, and graphic tee shirt dresses. For bottoms, mini skater skirts, skinny jeans, and culottes. For shoes, never forget the Doc Martens or chunky boots similar. And last but not least, the fifth thing to consider is how does her clothes shape her personality? The best way to answer this question is to look into Daria’s personality deeper, she doesn’t really care about small things and sees the world through different eyes. With this, she has priorities and standards, herself. Fashion is a lower priority compared to her wanting to make the right choice and choosing the right career. It’s a way to present herself but doesn’t make her stand out too much as she prefers to be known for her brains than her fashion. The clothes do not wear Daria, Daria wears the clothes. It’s just her.

I decided to go for something a bit more tricky next character and what’s more trickier than a comic book character who has been around since the 80’s? That’s right, you called it. Rogue from the X-Men. My Superhero twin. Brown hair, green eyes and all. It is no lie that recreating Rogue’s style would be great in those cold winters where I always dress wrong and is freezing my arse off. And since it is February, I thought why not include her. Although I will add some cooler alternatives if you live somewhere where it isn’t snowing. Comic Book Characters are fun to recreate their style because you can kind of cosplay yet it’s not cosplaying. I also love seeing fanart of people who draw comic book characters in casual clothes. It’s amazing to see that. I recommend looking at those fanart drawings if you are having a hard time. Rogue’s color palette includes green, yellow, brown, black and white. Now the colors kind of depend on what Rogue you are going for as 90’s Animated Rogue had a completely different vibe from X-Men Evolution Rogue. But I recommend going for similar greens (possibly ones similar used for Daria) for both vibe, yet feel free to go darker for X-Men Evolution Rogue. You can also try to incorporate yellow into X-Men Evolution Rogue’s vibe if you wish to but if not, get rid of it completely. Rogue’s aesthetic is hard to detect since she is a comic book character who has been in two very different cartoons but it is okay if you cannot detect an aesthetic with a character. I feel like X-Men Evolution Rogue fits into the more edgy, even potentially Goth aesthetic while 90’s Rogue is more sporty and slightly punk. It’s hard to detect because unlike X-Men Evolution Rogue, Rogue is rarely seen out of costume in the 90’s show. Similar to Daria, Rogue’s outfits don’t really leave an overall impression in the world she is living in as being a mutant is much more likely to give you backlash in her world. I think the only thing I can really get from Rogue is that her style is more likely to get you a sexy, devil-eyed hunk who speaks with French accent and is named Gambit. And who doesn’t want a Gambit? Now onto the fun part, choosing out similar fashion items. For 90’s Rogue, I recommend for jackets, they end at the waist and is faux leather (this is where you can add the brown). For tops, fitted sweaters, tee shirt dresses and mock necks. For bottoms, sporty shorts and fitted jeans and for shoes, sneakers and knee high boots. Don’t forget a fabulous headband. For X-Men Evolution Rogue, I recommend a longer dark jacket (maybe a denim jacket as well). For tops, fitted shirts, mock-necks, sheer tops with a cropped cami underneath, band tee shirts. With bottoms, ripped jeans with perhaps fishnets underneath, leather skirts, leather shorts. And for shoes, Mary-Janes or Doc Martens. Other than that, they go hand to hand with gloves, circle sunglasses, knee high socks. It is all about how you feel as the character. I mean, Rogue’s style basically shapes her personality as being reserved and not wanting to be touched. She wears a lot of layers and keeps covered yet keeps it fitted and sexy. She also has an edge that is shown a lot through her comic book appearances. Rogue’s style shows that you can be completely covered up and still be a babe. That you don’t have to show a lot of skin to be sexy but I mean she can’t show a lot of skin to be sexy because one touch and someone may die. But, if you don’t feel comfortable showing a lot of skin then Rogue is the rad gal for you.

Okay, now let’s say that you aren’t a loner or the sort of edgy type. I see you. Velma Dinkley has been one of my favorite characters since I was a young girl. She showed that you could be intelligent and be an equal to the leader. She had brains and was witty as hell. Now I may have grown up to be a bit more like Daphne in terms of fashion-mindset and clumsiness. My Velma comes out every once and then. Yet her colors are a bit harder to incorporate (wink, wink) into everyday basis because her color palette is red, orange and black if you include her glasses. I don’t see a lot of people wearing orange and red but it’s not that bad of a color combination. It mostly depends on what fashion item you are having red or orange in your outfit. If you are being precise, Velma’s color palette is a medium orange (slightly burnt at times) and crimson red. Like a cherry red, not too dark but not too light either. And with the glasses adding some black into her color palette, you can find ways to split the two with some basic black items in there as well, if it would make you more comfortable. Velma’s aesthetic is a nerd, she’s the bookworm, the brain of the group. She’s a nerd. Which ties into a lot of her aesthetic and how you can help it fit more together. Her aesthetic actually comes in handy because she’s very analytical and organized, meaning her clothes are probably going to be more neat and practical. Velma��s overall impression of her clothing by the world around her has changed throughout the years. It is rarely touched on until like the 2000’s where in the first two live action films, Velma is noted as being the less pretty out of the two of her and Daphne. Daphne continuously gives her advice on clothes or even once goes, “It’s never too late to learn how to use makeup”. And when Fred gets defensive when Velma notes how he has always somewhat favored Daphne over her, he goes, “Dorky chicks like you turn me on too!”. Noting how Velma is seen as poorly dressed. This mostly gives Velma’s character some depth as in the 2004 film “Monsters Unleashed”, when Velma develops a crush on museum owner Patrick Wisely, she becomes shy and scared of intimacy. Daphne’s solution to this is to give Velma a makeover that results in her feeling more uncomfortable and less sexy as it is more like Daphne than Velma. This scene is recreated in the 2008 film Mystery Begins where the Gang goes undercover in high school with different looks and Velma is yet again the uncomfortable sexy girl. Yet this never breaks Velma’s spirit and she always goes back to her natural look. For fashion items, Velma is a bit more simple as you can basically wear almost anything as long as it fits into her aesthetic and color-palette. For jackets, I recommend wearing fitted long jackets or maybe blazers if you feel more comfortable with a more professional, sleek look. Cardigans that are buttoned-up will also be an amazing choice for Velma. For tops, knitted sweaters, short-sleeved mock necks, mock knock sweatshirts, collared shirts. For bottoms, mini skirts, high-waisted flared jeans and potential overalls. For accessories, berets would be nice, knee high socks, and gloves. And for shoes, mary-janes or sneakers like Converse and Vans. How does Velma’s fashion shape her personality? Well, as talked about earlier, Velma has never felt the need to change or be someone she’s not. She is very comfortable in her own skin and her clothes. It shows that Velma can be comfortable and practical while holding an important part in the group. Her style shows never to judge someone by their clothing as there is always something more underneath.

Yes, another Scooby Doo character, forgive me. Sibella Count is a female character in the Scooby Doo film “Ghoul School”. Now let’s say that the character you want to recreate fashion off of is a lesser known, underdeveloped character who has only appeared in one film. Like Sibella. Well, then you have a lot of options! It is always good to take a character and remember the five things to consider. Sibella’s color palette is very diverse with a wide range of purples, reds, and some blues. You can throw some pinks in there if they have purple hues. Like a berry pink. Her aesthetic is the fact that she is Dracula’s daughter and a vampire so you can really play up the spook factor here yet keeping it sweet. You can also go very vintage with Sibella ranging from the 60’s to the 80’s as her style can be formatted into multiple different eras. Even the 50’s could be an option.
