People call Charles Edwin’s guard dog and Edwin thinks it’s going to offend him, getting more up in arms about it than Charles ever does. But it doesn’t seem to bother Charles at all. And Edwin doesn’t understand, not at first, not until Charles tells him, “So what if they think I’ll bite if they lay a finger on you? Not exactly wrong, are they?”
Suddenly, it makes sense. Why Charles takes the comments in stride. Why he seems to take pride in the suggestion.
Charles feels like Edwin should have someone who is willing to do all that for him, go that far for him—and of course that someone’ll be Charles himself. Edwin reflects that he’d never had that sort of fervent devotion from anyone, certainly not when he was alive, and no one has come close since but Charles. He reflects on how good it feels to be fundamentally seen, valued in such a way.
Still, Edwin worries—does Charles know that Edwin is just as dedicated to keeping him safe, his heart and his spectral body and his soul? That Charles is the most precious gift Edwin never dreamt to be given, and—
Does Charles know that, every day? That he’s more than his teeth? That he’s more than everything Edwin could want? That he’s sweetness and light?
It’s Charles’ loving touch that Edwin yearns for and craves, when he’s laughing harder than he ever has, in the middle of the night when the rest of the world is asleep and it’s just him and Charles in the warmly-lit office, tipping against each other on the tiny sofa that never feels cramped when it’s keeping the two of them near. The actual joke goes forgotten in the self-replenishing haze of their giggles, their shoulders knocking together, Charles’ ankle hooked around Edwin’s.
Edwin’s hand lands on Charles’ jaw, barely-there fingertips turning Charles’ head, easy, so easy, to look at him. To catch Charles’ gaze, deep and shining and—they’re so close to each other, a bit heady with leftover mirth, and Edwin will never forget that it’s Charles who moves first to press his smiling lips to Edwin’s, simple as ever, like it’s the next line in their conversation.
It knocks the breath straight out of Edwin: the breath he hasn’t needed in three-odd decades. But it’s all right because Charles’ mouth is opening against his, so right and inviting, and Charles is gasping too like he’s in the same dizzy predicament, and Edwin never wants it to end.
“Charles,” he says, “Charles, my darling, are you…?”
Charles’ eyes are dark as ink when he pulls back, only far enough to nudge his nose against Edwin’s cheek.
“Yeah,” he says, smile flashing bright like a slice of the moon. He closes his eyes, a flutter of lashes Edwin can feel against his own cheekbone, followed by the soft drag of a kiss. Then another. “Should’ve seen it, really,” Charles goes on, in between still more kisses, words said into Edwin’s skin. “‘Cause you’re it for me, Edwin, aren’t you, love? I just didn’t see. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you when you first—”
“Never mind,” Edwin says, “tell me now,” and then they’re kissing once more. The testing scrape of Charles’ teeth over Edwin’s lower lip, the nibble on his upper, is tentative, too tentative, and Edwin ought to have known, he ought to have suspected… but still he doesn’t, doesn’t expect the keening, tremulous moan that tumbles out of him at the promise of it all.
Charles chuckles, the sound settling in Edwin’s belly, making a home in his chest. “You like that?” he asks. Awed. Still hesitant. The laughter from earlier still layered in Charles’ voice, along with a new sort of hoarseness, a new sort of rasp Edwin could listen to forever. “Don’t wanna put you off, do I, love…”
“I will hardly be put off, Charles. In fact, I—” Edwin swallows, convulsive and wanting, sees Charles’ focus drop to his throat, find the soft underside of his jaw as he tips his chin up. “I would not have you hold back with me. Set your hands where you wish. Your mouth—where you wish. Your…” It is his turn to close his eyes.
“My teeth,” Charles finishes for him softly. “Wherever I…?”
“Yes,” Edwin says. “Yes.”

Hello! Can I ask for ekko with an reader who confessed to him thrice (and thrice rejected) and then he finally falls hard for them? With a happy ending, thank you!
(kind of like she fell first he fell harder trope)
Let Me Love You (Ekko x Reader)
Warnings: some cursing Genre: angst, hurt/comfort Word count: 2.3k Reader has no set pronouns!
The first time was the hardest of them all. You’d muster up the courage to confess your feelings for him, knowing very well that it could go south.
“I have something to tell you,” you uttered. He gave you a worried look, noticing that there was a hint of desperation in your voice. You were in his so-called office, working on something that didn’t really matter anymore.
“Is everything okay?” He simply asked.
“I’m not sure,” you began, “but I really need to say this.” He gave you his full attention, making you feel a bit intimidated by him and extremely self-conscious. “I’m in love with you,” you blurted out.
Silence quickly filled the room, and the tension could easily be cut by a knife. The moment you saw his face, you knew it: he didn’t feel the same way.
“I, uh, I don’t know what to say,” he mumbled more to himself than to you.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make things awkward at all. You can just forget I said anything.”
“I really don’t want to hurt you but I just don’t feel the same way.” You were trying to hold back your tears as his words left his mouth. “You’re an amazing person and anyone would be lucky to be with you, but that person isn’t me.”
You simply looked at him and slowly nodded. “It’s okay, you can’t force yourself to feel something you don’t.” It was hard to speak at this point. He knew you were hurt, but you’d never show it; it would just make things harder for the both of you. “Is this gonna change things between us?”
“I would hate that, honestly.” You nodded again, finally being on the same page about something. He came closer and put a reassuring hand on your shoulder to try and alleviate the tension. If only it were that easy.
•••
Some time passed and you still tried to hide your feelings for him. For a while, it worked, you’d suppressed them every time you spent time with the boy but deep down, you missed the way you were before. It had always been hard for you to open up to people, but you’d never been this miserable before. You were just a shadow of your usual self, and it was evident to everyone in the base.
Ekko himself tried to talk to you about it, clearly oblivious to the fact that he was the reason for your attitude. Finally, after a particularly hard day for you, you just lost it.
“You wanna know what’s wrong with me, Ekko? It’s you!” You truly didn’t mean to scream at him but you also couldn’t help it. Lately, you lived on edge, always frustrated about something; it was like you were a bomb simply waiting to explode. “I swear I tried to play dumb, to ignore everything but I just can’t.”
“Is this about-?”
“Yes, Ekko, of course it is.” You interrupted him. “I know you went on with your life and pretended I never said anything so we could go back to the way things were, but it’s not that easy for me. Nothing about this has been easy.”
“I didn’t know you felt that way.”
“Bullshit,” you spat. “You know exactly how I feel about you. We’ve known each other for years, you can’t tell me you never realized why I’ve been acting so strange.”
There was a pause between you. You were agitated, heart beating so fast that you could feel it in your throat. “I guess I wanted to pretend nothing ever happened,” he confessed after some time. “Acknowledging it made it real and I just- I just want my friend back, without any messiness and complications between us.”
“Oh, I’m sorry, Ekko. I’m sorry my feelings are such an inconvenience to you. Trust me, I wish I could change them and forget about you for good but I just can’t.”
Something twitched inside of him when you said that and he looked at you with hurt eyes. “You really mean that? That you’d like to forget me?”
“I meant forgetting about my feelings for you, ‘cause you’re not making things easy for me,” you explained. “When you come over and put your arm around me or stand so close to me that I can feel you breathing it kills me, Ekko. And the worst part is that you know it.” You took a deep breath, anger slowly leaving you, feeling nothing but sadness. “Sometimes I feel like you enjoy testing me like that because you know that no matter what I’ll always come back to you. But I’m tired of this dance between us, it’s too much.”
“I just don’t know how to feel! This is hard for me too!” Neither of you cared if someone heard you at this point, you’d simply have to put up with the weird looks from everyone. “I don’t know what you want me to do and I’m confused.”
“Honestly,” you began, “I want you to give me some space.”
“Wait, I- uh, I don’t want that, please,” he took a step closer to you, trying to grab ahold of your hand but you avoided his touch, as you avoided his sad eyes.
“Do you have feelings for me, Ekko?”
“I said I’m confused.”
“It’s a simple question, do you?”
You finally looked at him and he realized that you were crying. He could count with one hand the number of times he’d seen you cry, and he never thought he’d be the reason why. “I don’t know,” he finally whispered.
“Then I don’t have anything else to say. I don’t want to wait for you to figure out how you feel and keep getting hurt in the process, I don’t think I deserve it.”
“Wait, please-.”
“Ekko,” you cut him, “I need some space, don’t make this even harder, please.” And with that, you left, leaving him even more confused than before, and with a pain in his chest he couldn’t really explain.
You should’ve known this was coming. Still, it hurt like the first time. You couldn’t blame him; if anything, you were glad he was honest with you. But after today, you realized that you needed to keep some distance from him, or this would end up destroying you for good.
•••
Days quickly turned into weeks, and you realized you hadn’t said a word to the Firelight’s leader in almost a month. Your heart still flipped inside whenever you inevitably ran into him or locked eyes with him within the first few days since the fight, and soon you started avoiding him all along.
In no time, the boy started feeling an emptiness inside him, something he couldn’t explain. He was truthful with you in that last conversation, he truly wasn’t sure how he felt, but with every passing day that you were nowhere to be seen, he realized that maybe he’d been a complete fool.
He missed you, there was no denying that. Now the question was if his feelings for you were simply platonic or if deep down he yearned for you, maybe even more than you for him. Ekko wasn’t the best with his emotions, not because he actively repressed them, but because all of this was extremely new to him, and he just felt so overwhelmed. However, there was one thing he was extremely sure of: he wanted you in his life.
It had been days since he last saw you, evident now that you’d been avoiding him for a while, so when he finally caught a glimpse of you around the base, it was like seeing an angel. Soon, his pleasant feelings were replaced by envy. You were talking with one of the new members from the Firelights, nothing out of the ordinary, but there was nothing he wanted more than to be the one you had your attention on. He didn’t recognize himself, filled with jealousy and bitterness.
The boy was pulled out of his thoughts when someone asked him a question, engaging in conversation with him, but that strange sensation still clung to him like glue. He hated himself and blamed his stupid ass for being such an idiot, these were merely the consequences of his own actions.
When he was lying in bed that night trying to fall asleep, you were the only thing on his mind. Your smile that shined like the stars, your lips that he so wanted to feel against his own while your arms wrapped around his body. He wanted to bang his head against the wall, he was such an idiot. If only he’d realized this before then maybe now you wouldn’t hate him. It all seemed so obvious to him now. You were there for him, by his side from the very beginning. He could always count on and lean on you, he trusted you even more than he trusted himself. Oftentimes he’d become mesmerized by how pretty you looked when you spent time together, the sun hitting your face in just the perfect way or your hair effortlessly framing your face in such a flawless way. Of course, he thought nothing of all this at the time, brushing it off as objective thinking. But now, it suddenly hit him, everything was different now because he wasn’t unsure anymore, he knew exactly how he felt about you. He loved you.
He sat on his bed, passing his hands through his face in an attempt to clear his mind. He wanted- no, needed to talk to you. Maybe you didn’t even feel the same way anymore, but he had to get it off his chest, he had to at least try. But right now, he also had to calm his nerves because if he didn’t, he’d go and knock on your door this very moment, and he was certain you didn’t wanna see him at all. So instead, he got up and went to take a walk, thinking it would be nice to sit by the tree to help him organize his thoughts. What he wasn’t expecting was seeing you there.
As soon as you saw his figure making its way to you, you got up, ready to leave but were interrupted by his voice. “Wait, please, don’t go.” You knew you should pay him no attention and leave anyway, but it had been so long since you’d last heard his voice that you were taken aback for a moment, standing in place. “Can we talk?” His voice was soft, nothing compared to what it was in your last conversation together; you could even hear a hint of desperation, which was what ultimately made you turn around and stay.
“What do you want, Ekko?” As soon as he heard you he let out a small smile, confirming that yours was the voice he wanted to hear every day when he woke up and every night before going to sleep.
He motioned for you to sit down again, doing the same right after you. “I’m sorry for everything,” he began saying, “I never meant for things to end up like this between us.” His chest accompanied his breathing, moving just a little too fast, earning him a concerned look from you. “I know that you probably hate me now, I know I would if I were you, and you’ll probably hate me even more after what I have to say since I acted like a complete idiot and took so long to figure out something that was right in front of me this whole time but I- uh, I do have feelings for you. Lots of feelings actually, I’m in love with you.”
You snapped your neck to look at him, trying to read his expression in search of a playful tone, but it wasn’t there. He was serious, he was finally saying what you wanted to hear for so long now. So long that you couldn’t fully believe him.
“Ekko, I don’t want any games, please.”
“I’m being serious. These weeks without you have been absolute torture, I can’t do this without you, I need you.” He rubbed his face, stopping at the bridge of his nose to pinch it. When he looked back at you, he had tears forming in his eyes, a sight you hadn’t seen in a very long time. “I’m being honest. I’m so sorry it took me so long to finally realize it. I made it my personal vow to always protect you and keep you safe and I’m the one that caused you pain and for that, I’m so sorry.”
You didn’t really know what to say, nothing seemed good enough. Your mind was racing and quickly you were lost in your thoughts and were brought back to reality by the sound of Ekko getting up, ready to leave. “These last weeks have been hell for me, too.” Your eyes met his and you stoop up, getting closer to him. “I don’t hate you, Ekko. I could never hate you.”
“But you don’t love me anymore?”
“I didn’t say that, I’m just a bit taken aback that’s all.” He got closer to you, trying to grab your hand and this time, you let him do it. He brought it to his face and planted a kiss on it, never breaking eye contact with you.
“I’m so in love with you that just thinking about spending a second away from you makes me suffer. I don’t want to feel that way anymore, I want to be with you, share my life with you, and love you every day.” One of his hands went to cup your face and you leaned against it. “Please let me love you.”
You looked at his lips and then back at his eyes, and in just a second the air was knocked out of your lungs when you felt his lips against yours. The kiss was sweet but desperate and filled with emotions. “Please let me love you, too,” you said when you separated.
“Nothing would make me happier.”

ncaa recap: uconn vs. usc
first of all: what a way to lose a completely winnable game. WHAT a thing to do. truly!!! i applaud it. i’m SHOCKED at it, really - bc no way you wanna lose every fucking top 10 matchup y’all have. there’s just no way!!!
and now i have to do the thing i have been dreading all season, bc i have such immense respect for this man.
geno. what. the fuck. are you. doing.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING BRO????????????
what’s the game plan?? HUH???? no matter what happens, it’s paige’s fault??? the best player in the fucking country stayed an extra year to play for you, and THIS is how you do her???
quit playing her off ball bro PLEASE matter of fact she can’t play off ball. yup! CAN’T do it. every single one of her numbers but efficiency is down from last season, so i can conclude that you need to stop playing that bitch off ball.
put the ball in paige’s fucking hands luigi or i swear to god i will shove it up your ass. you have the most CREATIVE, TALENTED, INTELLIGENT scoring pg in the country and you’re playing her OFF BALL???? WHAT THE SHIT?????
and paige bro. we don’t get to pick and choose when we wanna play basketball. you don’t get to ONLY show up the second half. and MAN was that a fucking monster second half. like my legs are still shaking from it jesus fucking christ. but when we do THAT SHIT!!! right???? when we DON’T PLAY THE FULL 40???
it comes down to a freshman and her free throws. sarah strong, you are a perfect angel. you did NOTHING wrong. the play was all wrong, it shouldn’t have come down to you, i am so so sorry it did. sarah has been so unbelievably consistent, and i just KNOW she’s blaming herself for it.
what’s the reasoning behind these last few possessions. like what the fuck is up bro. why are we going for the 2 when we’re down 3. why are we fouling with no fouls left to give. if you’re gonna do that shit take the 3!!! close the gap completely. why are we willing to widen the possession margin??? i understand the technicality of the strategy here, and it might be the smartest thing possible in ANOTHER situation.
in MY mind tho: take the 3, tie the game. get a stop on the other end, set a decoy, have paige or ash take the 3. or send jana down low for a 2. but it was so obviously a matter of geno not trusting the defense. which is NUTS - because this is one of the strongest defenses in the country. and it wouldn’t have been a perimeter job. probably not!! probably would’ve been a juju middy or kiki down low!! REALISTICALLY!!!
i just, like… those last few CRUCIAL possessions were really muddled and it pissed me tf off. like actually made me so fucking mad.
anyway bro’s yapping again - bc if kk is a game changer, keep her in the fuckin game dawg. idk just a thought.
SIT ice, START jana, and SHUT THE FUCK UP ‼️‼️‼️ hm i wonder who will be a better match for the best power forward in the nation - the 6’5 paint beast, or the big who’s been showing you she lowk CANNOT PLAY BASKETBALL
anyway i just wanna say - to anyone who thinks paige got outplayed this game, fuck all the way off. juju couldn’t even guard paige the whole game, while paige did not let up. if juju had a hard time scoring, it’s because paige was in her mouth the whole time. that’s a two way player. so i don’t wanna hear shit.
in conclusion: MANE FUCK THIS SHIT

So I rewatched "Our Town" last night and when I sat down at my laptop this morning to do something that was not writing, I ended up writing instead. These things happen. Just a silly fluffy-ish little thing because omg that ep is so gross and also Scully has to be getting sick of being abducted all the time. Mulder feels the same way.
She can’t sleep. It’s not every day you almost get beheaded—even after everything that she’s already been through this year, it seems there are still things that can shake her up pretty badly. She rolls over on the lumpy motel mattress and tries to get comfortable. For a glorious moment, she considers quitting. Handing Skinner her resignation and walking away, finding a nice job with regular hours where people won’t handcuff her to radiators, stick her in closets, contort their stretchy bodies through cracks in her bathroom window, or drive her around in the trunks of their cars before handing her over to aliens or the government or whatever theory Mulder’s going with right now. A job where she won’t spend the end of a work day strapped into a metal harness as a guy in a mask raises an ax above her head.
In her mind she pictures a simple life: a nice house with a yard, a dog greeting her as she opens the door and walks inside after a long day at the hospital…no, a private practice? A day of teaching? Whatever she’s been doing, she walks into a kitchen that smells like home-cooked dinner, leaning up to kiss her faceless husband who’s vaguely Mulder-shaped. “Honey, I’m home!” “Dinner’s almost ready! How was your day?” “Fine. Narrowly avoided decapitation. Nothing exciting.” Fuck. Not even fantasy-Scully can escape the absurdity of this life.
The knock on her door doesn’t even surprise her. She already knows who it is. He stopped waking her unless it’s something really important, so she groans and gets up, her bones aching, weeping inwardly as she makes her way to the door. So she can’t sleep; that doesn’t mean she wants to spend the night going over their case report or whatever that infuriatingly charming insomniac wants from her this time.
But when she opens the door, he doesn’t look as if he wants to go over case reports. He looks like shit. As much as that’s even possible for him. Another thing that’s simply unfair about her life, she thinks with a sigh. Even with bags under his eyes and pale as a sheet he still looks beautiful. “Mulder?” she says.
He doesn’t answer, just steps right into her and pulls her into a wordless hug, so tight she’s a little afraid he’ll crack her ribs. She hugs him back weakly and pats his back, not quite sure what else to do since she has no idea what the fuck he’s even doing. She expects him to pull back, but he just keeps holding on, and she’s genuinely having trouble breathing.
“Uh, Mulder?” she says again, a little louder.
“You’re okay,” he mumbles into her hair, and she wiggles in his arms, trying to loosen his grip.
“Not for much longer if you don’t let go.”
“Sorry.” He drops his arms and takes a step back, but keeps looking at her like he’s never seen her before. “Sorry, I just—”
“It’s fine,” she says. “Did you have a bad dream?”
He shakes his head. “I couldn’t sleep.”
“Yeah.” She grimaces. “Me neither. It’s been…a day.”
“Are you sure you’re okay?” he asks, and she laughs. She’s too tired not to.
“Thanks to your timely rescue, my head is still firmly attached to my body.” It sounds a little bitter, and she’s surprised at herself before she feels another little piece of her frustration clicking into place. Ah, yes, she thinks. There’s that too. Rescued once again. She makes a mental note: fantasy-Scully in her little imaginary suburban nine-to-five utopia will never have to be rescued. She’s gonna be the one doing all the rescuing. Except nobody needs to be rescued in that perfect little world, because nothing bad ever happens to anyone.
“You don’t sound okay,” Mulder says, and she closes her eyes for a second. She’s not annoyed with him, she reminds herself. It’s not his fault that she became part of these townsfolks’ dinner plans, and it’s not his fault that she needed him to keep that from happening.
“I’m just a little tired.”
“I’ll let you sleep.” He sounds exhausted and when she looks at him, she sees leftover fear in his eyes. “No more interruptions, I promise.”
Her hand reaches out for his before she’s fully conscious of what she’s doing. It’s just that he’s here and she’s had enough of being Agent Scully for tonight, and he really looks so much like Doctor Scully’s faceless dinner-cooking husband in her nice little fantasy home. “Come on,” she says.
“What are you—”
“Bed,” she explains, hoping he won’t ask any more questions.
“Oh. Okay.”
She gets in on her side and is relieved when he lies down next to her without another word. She closes her eyes, but she can feel him stock-still as a statue next to her, she can feel the tension radiating off of him, and, hell, it sounds like he’s even trying to breathe without making a sound. So she grabs his arm and rolls onto her side, tugging him with her until he has his back against her chest, and she holds firmly onto his hand and snuggles back into him.
“Scully?” he asks, sounding a little confused.
“Relax, Mulder,” she tells him. “Sleep.”
“Are you sure?”
“About sleeping?”
“You know what I mean.”
She laughs and squeezes his fingers. “No. Of course not. But honestly? I really don’t care right now.”
“Okay,” he says, and he gets it, she knew he’d get it. “Okay,” he repeats, and laces their fingers together. She feels him lift his head, feels his hot breath against the side of her face, and then a gentle kiss against the corner of her eye. “Good night, Scully.”
“Good night, Mulder.”
Behind her closed eyelids, fantasy Scully lies just like this with her faceless partner, who’s just as warm and smells just as good as real Scully’s friend-partner spooned up behind her. The only difference is that her own real Mulder is…well, real. No matter how perfect her beautiful little dream house with her beautiful perfect husband may be, she kind of prefers snuggling with someone who has a face and a name. And maybe she’d actually miss the mess.
Not all of it. Not the ax-swinging, homicidal maniacs or the lumpy motel mattresses. But a partner who knocks on her door in the middle of the night because he couldn’t sleep without making sure she was okay? Who sleeps wrapped around her with his breath ruffling the hair at the back of her neck, knowing this isn’t leading anywhere other than comfort and friendship? And…she kisses the backs of his fingers once she convinces herself he’s probably asleep…a vague hope that maybe this won’t always be all there is between them?
Yeah. She’ll take it.

Cake Tasting
James Potter x fem!reader
Summary: James leaned in, and you only realized when you felt his fingers at the corner of your mouth, wiping away a little bit of whipped cream you hadn’t noticed. He smirked, that mischievous and irresistible smile that always followed him, and murmured in his low, warm voice, "Sorry, there was something here."
Warnings: none
Part 1 of Marry Me
Masterlist
Planning a wedding was a mix of euphoria and chaos, but with James by your side, everything felt like a romantic comedy. You’d been engaged for just a few months, and every detail of the big day was discussed between laughter and teasing, from the flowers to the ceremony time. James insisted that everything should be perfect for you — "The Potter here just wants to see you smile," he’d say, with that passionate sparkle in his blue eyes behind his glasses. And that afternoon, you were at the most delightful stage of the preparations: the cake tasting.
The bakery was a small, cozy place, with shelves lined with cakes decorated as if they had come straight out of a fairy tale. The scent of sugar and vanilla filled the air, making James excited before you even sat down. He adjusted his glasses with a mischievous smile, his messy black hair as usual.
"Ready to see me at my cake-judging peak?" he joked, pulling the chair out for you.
"I don’t even know why you came, James. The decision is mine," you replied, teasing, but smiling.
James laughed, a warm and familiar sound that seemed to fill the room. "Of course it’s yours. I’m just here to make helpful comments and steal any piece you leave behind."
The baker arrived with a tray full of samples. Small, elegant slices of cake were placed in front of you, each with a different frosting or filling. You picked up the fork first, cutting a small piece of vanilla cake with raspberry filling. James watched you as if he were studying a work of art, his smile lingering as you took the bite.
"So? What do you think?" he asked, leaning in closer.
"It’s... good. Fresh, but maybe a little too sweet."
James immediately got excited, taking a large piece of the same slice. "Too sweet? There’s no such thing," he said, before popping the cake into his mouth.
The silence lasted for two seconds before he made an exaggerated grimace. "Okay, maybe there is. Next!"
You laughed, the sound light and carefree. "I told you."
The next slice was chocolate with hazelnut cream, and this time, James was the first to try it. He dramatically closed his eyes, as if he were being transported to another universe. "This. This is the one. We’re getting married with this cake."
"You didn’t even wait for me to try it!" you protested, but laughing as you picked up your fork.
"No need. Trust me," he said, but when you tried it, you shook your head.
"It’s good, but too heavy. I don’t want our guests falling asleep at the party."
James put his hand on his chest as if he were hurt. "Heavy? Darling, it’s perfect. Plus, who’s going to sleep when I’m there to liven things up?"
"Exactly why I need a lighter cake, James. You’re already enough to tire anyone out."
He laughed and leaned over the table, his fingertips brushing against yours for a brief moment. "Okay, boss. Your turn to choose."
Finally, you reached a slice of white cake with lemon filling and whipped cream frosting. It was delicate and refreshing, but with a sweet touch that balanced it all. You tried it, and your eyes lit up.
"This is my favorite," you whispered.
James saw the expression on your face and, before even trying it, smiled. "Then this is the one," he declared, taking a piece. When the flavor hit, he nodded slowly. "Okay, it’s approved. But only because you like it."
"You’re so dramatic," you replied, but your smile was evident.
James leaned in, and you only realized when you felt his fingers at the corner of your mouth, wiping away a little bit of whipped cream you hadn’t noticed. The touch was light, but the familiarity and tenderness of the gesture made a subtle warmth rise to your face. He smirked, that mischievous and irresistible smile that always followed him, and murmured in his low, warm voice, "Sorry, there was something here."
Before you could formulate a response — maybe a sarcastic thank you or an attempt to protest — he was already even closer. In an instant, his vibrant blue eyes locked with yours, and the world seemed to shrink down to that silent connection between you. Then, he stole a kiss.
It was soft and sweet at first, as if James wanted to savor the moment, but soon you felt a firmer touch, an intensity that warmed your chest. The taste of lemon was still there, mixing with the familiar comfort of his lips. You closed your eyes without even realizing it, your cheeks burning as one of his hands rested on the table to steady himself.
When he pulled away, just enough so that your faces were still close, the teasing smile was already back. "Tax," he whispered, his voice low and full of humor. "For tolerating my opinion on cakes. And for choosing the most perfect cake for our wedding."
"James," you began, trying to sound serious, but your voice came out softer than planned. It was impossible to hold any indignation when he was so close, with his eyes shining that way and his messy hair falling over his forehead.
He tilted his head slightly, observing each of your reactions with a tenderness that made your heart race. "What? Are you going to tell me I don’t deserve it?" He let his fingers slide from the corner of your mouth to your cheek, tracing such a delicate path that it felt like it tickled your soul.
"You’re impossible," you murmured, but couldn’t stop the smile that appeared at the corner of your lips.
"Impossible to resist, I know," he teased, leaning in to place another kiss, this time at the corner of your mouth, as if to emphasize the point.
You rolled your eyes with a soft laugh, but before you could respond, you decided to retaliate. With a quick motion, you grabbed the tie he was wearing — because, of course, James had decided that a cake tasting called for a casual shirt and a loose tie — and pulled him close. It was your turn to kiss him, but with a touch of teasing on your lips.
When you pulled away, James blinked, clearly surprised, and a faint blush appeared on his cheeks. He cleared his throat, trying to regain control, but the dazzled smile betrayed him. "Okay, now you’re playing dirty."
"I learned from the best," you replied, now openly amused.
James let out a laugh, his eyes never leaving yours as his fingers remained delicately on your cheek. "Alright, now I’m going to have to raise my tax rate."
"Oh, you’re not," you said, shaking your head, but already laughing again.
The baker, who clearly tried to give space to the most passionate couple he had ever seen, returned to finalize the order. Throughout it all, James kept his hand in yours, fingers intertwined in a gesture so simple and so full of meaning that it seemed to encapsulate all the love he felt for you.
And as you left the bakery, you were certain that the cake chosen was the right one — not just because it was delicious, but because every step of the journey, by James’ side, made everything perfect.

10:45pm with bang chan - a @cosmicalily timestamp
author’s note: okay hello so where was mr christopher bahng when i was stressing and studying like crazy for my exams? also first channie fic (everyone claps) highkey embarassing that it took me so long apologies to my bahngers
warnings: discussions of anxiety and stress to do with university/school
“Do you want a pudding? Minho dropped them off for us.”
You didn’t reply, body sprawled across the couch. Chris shrugged, assuming you were asleep, picking the small plastic cup up and rifling around in the drawer for a spoon.
“I’m so overwhelmed,” you said suddenly, your voice cracking. He stopped in his tracks, letting the spoon and unopened pudding clatter to the counter. He approached you, gently, resting his hand on your cheek, moving his thumb to wipe under your eye when a tear spilled over.
“Come here,” he said, putting his arms around you as you crawled onto his lap, wrapping your legs tight around his waist. He rubbed circles into your lower back, letting you shove your face into the crook of his neck and dampen his sweatshirt with your tears. “I’m sorry, sweet girl. You always have too much on your mind.”
You sobbed at his kindness, holding him tighter. “It’s just all this shit with my assignments, and then work, too. I keep covering for people but when I’m the one who’s sick, nobody covers for me. And then there’s that girl who just pulls apart every fucking thing I do.”
“That friend of a friend?” Chris raised an eyebrow. “What a bitch.”
“I know, I hate her. I hope her lash tech absolutely botches her next set, eyes swollen, no space between,” you huffed, and Chris laughed.
“That’s my girl, let it out.” he smiled, giving you a kiss on the cheek. “Is there anything else you’re still stressing about?”
You sighed. “That assignment. It’s making me nervous, even though I know I can do it. I just don’t want to.”
“You’re the smartest person I know,” Chris said honestly. “I don’t think there’s anything you’ve done to your ‘worst ability’ that anyone else could do to their best. It’s not everything, baby, I promise you.”
“It’s a sixth of my outcome-”
“Out of the other five parts that you’ve already smashed out. I’m always proud of you, you know that, and it’d make me proud to see you let yourself go a little. I’m here, you know, you can always tell me this stuff. I have the space in my mind for it if it starts to overflow from yours.”
You gave Chris a kiss on his nose, then his cheek, then his lips. “Thanks, baby.”
“It’s what I’m here for.” He hoisted you up, carrying you into the kitchen and setting you down on the counter. He stood between your legs, taking time to properly wipe your tears and press gentle kisses onto your lips. Chris tore off the foil lid of his pudding and dug his spoon in, pressing the cool metal against your mouth. You opened, smiling, letting the cool custard melt onto your tongue. It was comforting, not just the food, but sharing it with him.
He slung one arm around your waist, the other holding his spoon, taking a mouthful for himself then offering one to you. It felt good to have something substantial in your stomach; whilst Chris always made sure you ate properly when studying, you never gave yourself the time to actually enjoy the food, or to have something as a treat. Your stomach would cramp after the third coffee and the second energy drink, but now, it felt calm.
“You’re too good to me,” you looked up at him, eyes shining.
“Nobody’s good enough to you, sweet girl,” Chris replied. “I wish I could stop everything and give you a moment to breathe. It’ll be over though, someday. I’ll make sure of it.”
“And we can live in a pretty house by the beach with a dog and make out all day?” you asked, giggling.
He smiled. “That’s the dream, baby.” He pressed a kiss to your forehead. “That’s the dream,” he repeated, pulling you in close.

Hiii Spotty 💕💕💕
🎅+Aurora
-❤️🪐
Hi! I’m sorry this one’s jumped the queue a bit cos I got inspired… hopefully in a surprising and fun way? It’s 900 words and will turn up on ao3 at some point. 🩷💙🩷💙🩷💙 it’s been written quick and messy so apologies for any errors (would love to know when you worked out what was happening, it’s probably very obvious)
Three days and he hasn’t let it go. Eddie had been sure he would but the man’s stubborn. More stubborn than he anticipated. Too late he sees Buck coming towards him, there’s no subtle way to avoid him so he squares his shoulder and faces his fate. There’s always the option that Buck won’t ask again.
“Eddie.”
“Buck.”
He returns the greeting smoothly. Buck stares him straight in the eye and jumps right in.
“You gonna tell me yet?
“I’ve already told you I don’t have an opinion on the subject.”
The look on Buck’s face is skeptical at best.
“Don’t believe you.”
The stand off continues, blue staring down brown.
“I’ll find out eventually.”
Eddie doesn’t see how to be honest but the determined way Buck pokes his chest with his middle finger puts doubt in his heart.
“Everyone has a favourite and I need to know yours.”
Buck narrows his eyes before he spins on his heel and walks away.
“Not everyone has a favourite.” Buck holds up a dismissive hand as he disappears. “Bet Bobby doesn’t.” Eddie yells after him.
Buck spins, starts walking backwards. “He does and at least he wasn’t too embarrassed to tell me.
He’s taken three steps closer before he realises what he’s done and stops.
“I’m not embarrassed! I just don’t have a favourite.”
Buck shakes his head sadly.
“Sure Eddie. Gonna find out in the end. I have ways. Ways Eddie!”
Then he’s turning away again and marching off leaving Eddie standing alone and feeling oddly guilty.
*
He lasts another day. Well one shift with Buck being polite and slightly cool, sitting at the other end of the couch not next to him, staring at him but not asking the question anymore. One lunch with Chim, Hen and even Bobby asking him to just tell him.
He doesn’t get why Buck needs to know anyway. Hen says it doesn’t matter why, he wants to know so tell him, Chim says to tell him before Buck phones his abelua to find out (which is a possibility that hadn’t occurred to him)l and Bobby says tell him before I have to order you to.
Eddie keeps telling the lie that he can’t tell Buck anything because he doesn’t have a favourite. He does, but he’s not supposed to so saying it out loud makes him feel weird. The others all told him their answer to Buck’s seemingly random and to Eddie deeply personal question.
He lasts one shift and a final look into sad blue eyes that look his way once before Buck says a general goodbye to the room and leaves.
Shit. Eddie rests his head on the locker with a deep sigh.
“It doesn’t make you any less of a man Eddie. It’s ok.”
Chimney’s voice is kind but has an undercurrent of amusement. It’s ok for him he wasn’t brought up in a toxic comp het environment.
“I know that, it’s just…. silly, isn’t it? I don’t see the point.”
“Do you have a favourite?”
Eddie sighs again and confesses.
“Yes.”
“Then just tell him. Who knows why he wants to know, he just does so make him happy and tell him.”
*
He knocks and waits. He hasn’t texted to say he’s coming over. He’s just turned up, that’s ok, they do that sometimes.
The door opens and Buck’s smile slides off his face when he realises who’s at his door.
“Eddie.” It’s a flat disappointed tone, Eddie can’t take it anymore. He blurts out the answer.
“The pink one,”
Buck frowns. “What?”
“The pink one is my favourite.”
“The pink one?”
“Yes.”
“The pink ones your favourite and you don’t even know her name?” Buck’s eyebrow cross examines him.
“Fine… Aurora. Sleeping Beauty. Briar Rose. She’s my favourite Disney Princess.”
Now he’s confessed Buck’s face has split into a giant grin. Maybe telling Buck something he’s never told anyone before is worth the embarrassment for a smile like that. Buck opens the door wider, clearly inviting him in.
“Thank you Eddie, was that so hard?”
As he walks past Buck adds.
“Mine is Ariel.”
“I didn’t ask.”
“I know, very rude of you, but I have no problem sharing important information with friends, unlike some people.”
And with that pointed comment, they’ve made it to the kitchen island which is apparently covered by various princess related decorations stickers, ribbons and sparkly things.
“Anyway, now you’re here you can help me. I’m making Jee’s birthday present.”
Eddie’s heart melts a little at how soft Buck is for his niece.
“Kinda got caught up in a Disney Princess research spiral, quizzes and stuff, what Disney Princess are you, what your favourite princess says about you…you know.”
Not really, but it sounds very Buck to him.
“So you wanted to know our favourites…” Eddie nods understanding now, and when he’d had refused to say, Buck had been upset and suddenly needed to know desperately. Also very Buck.
“Sorry I was being stubborn about it but when I was a kid boys didn’t like Disney Princess.”
“It’s ok, still love ya.”
The words make Eddie’s cheeks flush but he ignores that and joins his best friend; the kindest man he knows and starts to help with his mission to make and it’s a direct quote from the man himself, “the best, most princessy princess castle that ever princessed for a princess.”
Buck grins happily at him from the other side of the island and Eddie wonders if the day will come when he’s ready to tell Buck another secret about himself. He hopes so. He really does.

Hi lovie! May i request something? Can you write angst to comfort with simon or john? Love me some ex to lover or just like another chance romance where the boys are grovelling teehee
Of course I can, angel!♡ I hope you like this, I'm so sorry that it's late. I really wanted to make it more angsty at the beginning and sweet at the end so enjoy.
What Remains ₊˚⊹♡
Warnings: angsty, simon being a bit of a prick tbh, fluff at the end.
The dreaded knock came late—sharp and deliberate, breaking the silence of your small apartment. You weren’t expecting anyone at this time, but the minute you opened the door and saw him standing there, everything froze.
Simon.
He looked the same, but so different. The mask was gone, but his darkening aura stayed the same. He didn’t say anything; he stared at you like he wasn’t sure you’d let him speak.
“What do you want?” you said, voice harsher than you expected.
“I came to talk,” he muttered, his voice low, almost hesitant, “To apologise.”
You let out a harsh laugh and crossed your arms.
“Talk? Now? After you walked out of my life without a word? Months, Simon. Months. And now you want to talk?”
“I know,” he said quickly, his tone defensive, as if bracing for impact.
“I know I fucked up.”
“Fucked up?” You stepped back, gesturing wildly, “No, Simon. You didn’t just ‘fuck up.’ You destroyed me. Do you even get that?”
He winced, his lips pressing into a hard line. “I left to keep you safe. I didn’t have a choice.”
“Oh, don’t give me that bullshit,” you snapped. “You always have a choice. You just didn’t want to deal with me, so you made the easiest one. Don’t pretend you did it for me.”
His head snapped up at that, and for the first time, you saw something crack in him.
“You think it was easy? Leaving you? That it didn’t tear me apart every time i thought about it?”
“Sure looked easy from where I was standing,” you fired back. You knew it wasn’t like that, but you had lost it with him now.
“I was trying to protect you,” he said, voice harder now, colder. It was like he went back to who he was in the field, merciless and cruel.
“Do you have any idea the kind of shit that follows me? The kind of danger I drag around? I left because I didn’t want you caught in the crossfire. You know I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if anything happened to you.”
“Protect me?” You let out a bitter laugh. “That’s rich, Simon. Did you ever stop to think about how it felt on my end? Not knowing if you were dead, alive, or just done with me? You didn’t protect me. You abandoned me.”
That word hit him like a slap. His jaw clenched, and something in his expression shifted, turning darker. “You think I wanted to do that? That it didn’t fucking kill me to walk away? I was trying to do the right thing.”
“Yeah, well, you failed,” you shot back. “Congratulations. All you did was prove I meant nothing to you.”
He let out a sharp, bitter laugh. “You think you meant nothing? Christ, I couldn’t stop thinking about you. I thought about you every fucking day. Do you know how many times I wanted to pick up the phone? To come back? But I couldn’t.”
“Why? Why couldn’t you?” you demanded, your voice breaking. You didn’t want to get emotional with him but you couldn’t help it.
“What stopped you? What could possibly be worse than what you did to me?”
Simon’s voice dropped, “Because I was scared, alright? Scared I’d lose you for good. Scared you’d get hurt because of me.”
You stared at him, the weight of his words hitting you like a tidal wave. For a small moment, neither of you said anything, just stood there in the wreckage of everything unsaid.
“You broke me, Simon. You left me with nothing. And now you just show up, expecting me to forgive you?”
“I don’t expect your forgiveness,” he said, his tone softer now, the fight draining out of him. “I just… I couldn’t stay away anymore. I had to try. Even if you want to slam the door in my face, I’ll take it, but I needed you to know I’m sorry. For all of it.”
You felt your resolve cracking, the anger giving way to something else—something just as painful.
“You don’t get to do this to me,” you whispered. “You don’t get to come back like this and try to undo everything I’ve been through.”
“I know,” he said gently. “But I can’t let you go without a fight. Just because I left doesn’t mean I don’t love you anymore.”
Your arms hung limp at your sides, the weight of his words crushing you. You couldn’t tell if you were angry at him or just upset.
“I know I’ve been a prick, baby, trust me I know. And I hate myself for ever doing this to you. I wasn’t thinking properly. Fuck, I just- ”. He sighed and rubbed his eyes.
He looked… lost? Like he didn’t know how to fix this, and it tugged at something deep inside you, even through the anger.
“Simon,” you said quietly, your voice softer now.
His hand dropped, and he looked at you, the raw emotion in his eyes catching you off guard. “I’ll spend the rest of my life making this up to you if you let me,” he whispered. “I just want you back. Please.”
The sincerity in his voice broke you, and you couldn’t even get a moment to second-guess yourself.
“One chance, Simon. That’s all you’re getting.”
Guys i fear this is one of the best things i’ve written (my favourite). And it’s actually proof-read because i could be asked to get the grammar correct!! So proud. Thank you anon for this lovely, lovely request `౨ৎ~

Holly Jolly Christmas
Summary: Your first Christmas with the Heart Pirates leads you out on deck for a few moments alone, only to be joined by your captain making sure you're okay.
Note: Just wanted to write something like this, Reader needing to step away to get their feelings in check and Law being willing to listen. :) Again, SORRY IT'S SO LATE. I went to see Sonic 3 this morning after church and it threw my whole day off. (:
“Oh come on, stay inside with us! It’s chilly out there!”
“I’ll be fine, Ikkaku, I just need some air!”
She rolls her eyes at you but doesn’t fight, instead being pulled away by Shachi for a dance while you laugh and step outside to the deck of the Polar Tang, taking a breath and feeling at ease. The holiday party your crewmates were throwing was starting to overwhelm you, a small break is all you need, some fresh air and the chance to collect yourself. It’s still hard to believe this is your life sometimes, that you’re a member of this crew and have friends that care about you, including a captain that wants you to stay safe. People who like and want you around, it’s so different from before.
Your first year with the Heart Pirates was coming to an end, right at Christmas time too. Never in your wildest dreams did you ever think a pirate captain would request you to join them after seeing you protect yourself from some robbers on your home island, you just wanted to be able to eat that night and keep your hard-earned money from them. Apparently it was enough that day to convince Law you would be a good addition to his crew, for some reason you felt like you couldn’t say no even though he didn’t scare you or anything. It felt like something told you that day to go, not like you had anyone to return to at home anyway. Most people on your home island tolerates you enough to pay you for small jobs, but no one cared when you left, you’re sure of that.
It didn’t matter though, once you were introduced to everyone, they all took a quick liking to you and showed you the ropes, taught you how the ship worked and everything you’d need to know for life as a Heart Pirate. You learned everything as quickly as you could, you didn’t want to be seen and burden or dead weight on the crew, and not one of your new friends thought that about you, they all gave Law good reports when they’d help you with anything.
You’re grateful for everything that’s happened the last year, watching your crewmates have fun tonight and enjoy themselves. It’s really like having a family again.
“There a reason you’re out here alone?”
Hearing Law’s voice just makes you smile at him over your shoulder, before he joins you leaning against the railing. Of course he’d find you, he’s very good at that lately. Sometimes it feels like he's actively seeking you out, though that could just be wishful thinking.
“I just needed some air, captain.”
“You don’t have to call me that when it’s just us, I’ve told you that,” Law rolls his eyes while you giggle at him, “Doing okay?”
You nod with a small hum, you know he won’t press too hard to find out what’s going on, he already knows everything about you. Law never pushed but always listened when you wanted to talk about your previous life, when he noticed you weren’t doing well one day and it ended in you sobbing in his arms for hours about your lost family. He was awkward about it but didn’t make you leave until you were calm again, it made him realize there was more that you hadn’t told him at that point.
You two were more alike than Law ever expected when he brought you on.
“I need to thank you, Law,” he looks over to you with furrowed brows, but you’re not even looking at him, “If you all hadn’t shown up last year, I probably—”
“Enough, you don’t have to thank me again.”
You laugh with a nod as Law rolls his eyes once again, before you reach over and hug him. It’s taken some time but you’ve gotten Law used to these random hugs, he’s even started returning them like he does now.
“Still though, I’m grateful…getting to know all of you and feel like I belong somewhere again…thank you for saving me, captain.”
“…we’re all glad to have you here.”
You both stay like that for a while, even though it’s cold out and you know Law will want you inside shortly to get warm again. But these moments with just the two of you are rare, some people would question your relationship if it’s just captain and subordinate or something else there, but you’re happy with where the two of you are.
“All right, you lovebirds, everyone’s waiting for you to do Secret Santa already!”
The two of you almost up away from each other, Law giving Penguin a glare while you look away, your older crewmate having a smirk on his face.
“I won’t tell anyone, don’t worry. But really, come on! Everyone wants to open gifts!”
“Fine,” Law sighs, waving Penguin and keeping a hand on your shoulder, “We’ll be there in a moment.”
“Sure thing, cap!”
Penguin runs off to get everyone ready, leaving you and Law alone against. He’s obviously annoyed but it makes you smile anyway. It might be more than either of you are ready for, but you grab his hand and starts walking back into the Polar Tang.
“Better not keep everyone waiting, right, Law?”
“Yeah…guess so…”
You’ll tease him about the light blush on his face later, but tonight, you’ll keep the smile he gives you later on to yourself, and the fact you were his Secret Santa will be your personal secret until Law questions you about it.
You’re the only one who could’ve given him those coins from your home island anyway.

Several Sentence Sunday
I was tagged by @biscuityskies over a month ago, and I'm excited that I now have something to share! Thank you for the tag! This is another WIP for a @codywanfirstkissbingo fill, in which Cody and Obi-Wan end up forming their own little two-person bookclub to read a cheesy romance together :) here's the start of the lead-up to that:
“Those are my datapads.”
Obi-Wan doesn’t bother looking up from the requisition form he’s currently checking over. “Correct,” he says, waving a hand absently to shut his office door, having previously opened it to let his commander inside.
He can feel the irritation wafting off of Cody— purposefully, since Obi-Wan knows for a fact that Cody’s shielding is durasteel-clad should he wish it so— and bites back a smile. He signs the pad with a quick flourish of his finger, and sets it aside before looking up. When he does, he sees Cody reaching for the remaining stack of pads, which Obi-Wan quickly pulls through the air and into his own hands before Cody can grab them.
Cody huffs, but Obi-Wan doesn’t miss the barely-there twitch of his lips. “I don’t need you to do my datawork for me. Sir.”
“I know you don’t need me to, but I wanted to,” Obi-Wan shrugs. “I finished my own for the night, so I figured I might as well. I wanted you to have enough time for Waxer’s book club.”
Cody raises a brow at him. “I hadn’t realized you’d heard about that.”
Internally, Obi-Wan winces, afraid he’s overstepped. “They were talking about it in the mess. I know you like reading, and I know the two of you are close, so I just assumed. I apologize, if I— ”
“No, I— I do appreciate it, General, thank you. But I’m not going.”
“Oh,” Obi-Wan says, frowning. “Not interested in what they’re reading?”
Cody shakes his head, pulling over a chair and setting himself down. “No, it’s not that. I am actually interested in the book they chose, but it’s… ” Cody purses his lips, averting his gaze and staring into the middle distance behind Obi-Wan. “Everyone else who attends is of similar rank. My vode need some time away from the chain of authority, especially their commander. I don’t want to intrude.”
“Cody, I’m sure they would— ”
“I know they would let me join, if I asked. But I also know that bookclub is about 30% actually discussing the book, 70% drinking the starshine we don’t know about while shooting the shit.” Cody meets his eyes, shrugging. “It’s no big deal, really. We still spar and have our holo nights whenever the opportunity arises, but I want to let them have this.”
“Ah,” Obi-Wan nods. “That’s very considerate of you, Cody. However, I’m still sorry that the nature of the situation prevents you from joining them, especially if it’s something you wanted to read.”
Cody shrugs again. “If I want to, I can just read it on my own. Unlike my datawork, however, which I cannot complete unless you actually give it back to— ”
He cuts himself off with a snort, shaking his head as he watches the stack rise towards the ceiling of the room, just out of reach. Obi-Wan grins, ridiculously pleased as always when he can pull a laugh out of the other man.
I'll tag @countryboyskywalker @petrifiedforests @anxiousotters @bluemaskedkarma @loverboy-havocboy @goddammitjim and anyone else who wants to play!

Choices
Written using prompts from The Storymatic set.
“Villain, stop!” Hero shouted over the howling wind, “you don’t have to do this!”
Villain turned, tears in their eyes and an incredulous expression on their face.
“You think I want to do this!?” they demanded, the wind carrying their voice and amplifying it so it was like thunder in Hero’s ears, “I’m only doing this so you won’t die! Now get out of here!”
Hero stared, eyes wide and mouth agape. This didn’t make any sense. They threw an ice shard, hoping to break Villain’s concentration. Villain smacked it into tiny flurries that whipped around in the fierce gale.
“Supervillain made it clear, it was either you or the city,” Villain said, their power reaching a crest, “I’m sorry, Hero.”
The wind took on a conical shape, forming a giant tornado. It began to suck in everything in its path. Villain set it loose on the city, then tackled Hero to the ground.
“We need to get to shelter,” Villain said, “any air I manipulate won’t harm me, but it could still hurt you…”
“Get off of me!”
Hero pushed Villain off with hands that were ice-cold, glaring daggers that would make anyone shrink back.
“Look what you’ve done! All those people are going to die, because of me!? You thought I would want that on my conscience!? I’d rather die- literally!”
Villain looked hurt, then their face hardened.
“Well too bad! I’m the only one who’s allowed to be selfish in this relationship! And if I had to choose again, I’d pick you every time!”
“Why!? Why was I even part of the choice!?” Hero demanded.
“Because I love you, and Supervillain knows it!”
Villain didn’t seem to realize what they had said, but Hero certainly did- they were blushing scarlet all over.
“O-oh,” Hero said quietly.
Villain grumbled, getting to their feet and yanking Hero up with them. They embraced them tightly.
“Now, we are getting to shelter, and you are not going to fight me on this. Deal?”
“I can’t just come quietly-”
“Deal!?” Villain repeated, harsher this time.
“No,” Hero sighed, “no, I’m sorry. I have to try and stop it.”
Hero let go of Villain, but before they could break free, there was a sharp prick in the back of their neck.
“I was afraid you’d say that,” Villain sighed.
“No,” Hero said, “no, no, Villain, you can’t do this-”
“Believe it or not, Hero, your little ice tricks won’t do anything against a 300 mile an hour tornado. Shocking, I know. We’re going now.”
“No…” Hero mumbled, vision already starting to blur.
“I’m sorry.”
Hero felt the world tilt on its axis as Villain repositioned them into a bridal carry. They closed their eyes just as the screams began.

Jegumas Day Twenty-Two - Santa Claus
865 words
@noblehouseofgay
--------------------------------------------------------------
“I’m sorry -” Regulus stopped, staring at his husband with concern. “You want to let someone break into our house and leave things for Harry to open?”
“No,” James shook his head. “No - no one is actually coming in, Reg. It’s a myth. Santa Claus doesn’t really exist.”
“He’s a mythical person who makes toys from his castle in the North Pole and flies around the whole world in one night, breaking into everyone’s houses through the chimney and leaving gifts?” Regulus checked, reiterating what he’d been told.
James looked like he wanted to protest. “Yes? And he’s magical.”
“He’s a wizard?” Regulus asked, skeptical.
“Um.” James winced. “Not exactly, no. He’s a muggle myth.”
“A muggle myth,” Regulus echoed. “Why do they want a strange man dropping down their chimney? Why do you?”
“I -” James closed his eyes, looking a bit more stressed than he had before Regulus had asked what on Earth Effie had meant when she had Harry write a letter to ‘Santa Claus’.
“It’s a belief, Reg. A pretend muggle story. Mum and Dad wanted me to know about muggle culture, so they told me about Santa Claus, and now they’re showing Harry,” James said patiently.
“They’re lying to him,” Regulus pointed out. “We don’t lie to Harry. You hate it when someone suggests we lie to Harry.”
“No one is lying to Harry,” James assured him. “He knows that Santa is a muggle myth. He just likes the fun of it, Reg. It’s just fun.”
Regulus didn’t understand how it was fun to pretend someone was always spying on you so that they could put you on a ‘nice’ or a ‘naughty’ list. “Uh-huh.”
James gave him a pleading look. “It’s like - he’s like a collective imaginary friend. It’s a play pretend game, Reg. Except that a lot of muggle children believe that he’s real until they get a bit older.”
“But Harry knows the truth,” Regulus said. Making sure.
James nodded. “Harry knows.”
Regulus nodded back. He still didn’t see the point of Santa Claus, but if Harry was having fun with it, then maybe it was alright. “Okay.”
“Really?” James asked, shoulders dropping in relief. “It’s okay?”
“Yes,” Regulus replied. “He’s having fun, and he won’t get hurt from us lying to him, so it’s alright.”
James dropped his head into his hands. “Oh thank Merlin.”
Regulus laughed, moving closer and pulling James up so he could hug him. “I didn’t realize you were so stressed about it.”
James curled up against his side. “I really didn’t want to tell Mum and Dad that they had to stop doing things with Santa.”
Regulus felt his heart skip a beat. “You’d have done that?”
His voice came out strange - a little high-pitched, a little strangled. But he couldn’t help it, even as James looked up at him in obvious concern. “You’d have - just because I was against it?”
It was unthinkable. Impossible. He’d never imagined that James would change any family traditions to suit Regulus’s preferences. That would be unrealistic and selfish to expect. It would be unfair.
“Of course, I would,” James said quietly. He sat up a bit to meet Regulus’s eyes, as sincere as he always was. “Regulus. You’re Harry’s parent. You have a say in how we raise him. If you don’t want to celebrate Christmas with Santa Claus, then we won’t. If you have a problem, we’ll work on it. You’re an important part of this family, and your opinion matters.”
Regulus blinked to clear his vision, lost for words.
James smiled, one hand moving to the back of Regulus’s head and pulling him into a soft, sweet kiss. Regulus melted into it, letting the warmth envelop him, letting it sink into everything he was.
They were both breathing a little faster when they pulled apart.
James was looking at him, hazel eyes blown wide but still so, so soft. “You matter.”
Regulus’s breath caught, eyes flying shut to hide how close he was to tears.
It didn’t work, but he hadn’t expected it to. Not with James, who knew him better than anyone in the world.
Their positions switched - James hugging Regulus close, dark curls against a burgundy sweater.
“You matter, Regulus. You’re important and loved and you matter so, so much to all of us.”
Light pressure rubbed up and down his arms, his back. Reassuring touches as he fell apart a little bit. He wasn’t used to this yet. He thought maybe he should be - it had been years with James, with Harry, with people who loved him and accepted him.
But sometimes he got caught off guard by how much they loved him. By the sheer amount of compassion and respect and empathy they all had to offer.
Sometimes he wasn’t sure he really deserved to be here, with James, hearing all of these wonderful things.
But slowly, he was changing that. He was learning that he deserved nice things. Like love, maybe. Because when James said the was loved, he felt it.
And with every soft repetition - you are important, you’re loved, you matter - Regulus believed it a little more.

We’re all we have
supernatural oneshot: Sam Winchester x Dean Winchester x y/n (mainly Dean)
tw//: mentions of death, mentions of suicide, self-hate, victim-blaming, and mentions of being unlovable
synopsis: you’ve been waiting for your brothers to come back from their hunting trip, however, you and Dean get in an argument. It makes you question his thoughts about you and your place in the family.
fem! reader x sam winchester, fem! reader x dean winchester, family au, some angst, and some foul language
an: sorry if this is shit, i just luv my bbs 🙁
It’s been a while, too long even. It’s been over a week since Sam and Dean went on their hunt in Valentine, Nebraska. It was suppose to be only a nest of vampires. Seven? Eight? Maybe nine? They could take them easily, so why is it taking them forever to return my calls. One last time, I swear if he doesn’t answer…
Pang! Pang! Pang!
“Open up y/n!” Dean’s voice muffled through the metal.
Seriously? Now they come what the hell. I rush to the door to open it.
“Hey! Hey! How’s my favorite girl doing?” Dean walks in shuffling around me, down the stairs to the table.
“Dude c’mon— hey y /n… how are you” Sam stopping in his tracks to acknowledge me with a soft smile.
“I’m angry and you know that, what the hell Sam!” I turn haltingly and follow Dean.
I pace around Dean, angrily waiting for an explanation. They were gone for seven full days with zero contact, and it’s not like we had an argument. Over 70 messages sent and 50 missed calls, I thought of the worse. They could have been dead in a ditch or heads ripped off; why didn’t they call me, text me, sent cass, absolutely anything to me to make sure they were still alive.
“Dean, I need answers right now!”
“Y/n, I’m sorry okay… I should’ve texted you. We’re alright, see?” Dean spins in a 360, showing himself injure-free.
“No! I’m sick a tired of these excuses, you’ve been so distant. You’re so quick to go from one hunt to another, your not slowing down at all. Im worried about you. You’re not eating good or sleep properly, and when was the last time you took a shower. Seriously?
“Y/n…” Dean starts getting frustrated walking up to her.
“Y/n…” Sam interferes, trying to calm her down.
“No! fucking talk to me! What’s the matter with you!” I slam my fist down on the table.
“My dad is dead! Do you know what’s that like? To have your father taken away from you and not even knowing who did it!” He slams his fist down, kicking a chair away.
“Dean, calm down please. Yelling at each other isn’t going to mend our problem right now” Sam puts his hand on his older brother’s shoulder.
“I lost him too, you know? He was like my dad too Dean?” I say up in his face.
“He wasn’t your dad though, as much as you think he was” He pushes around y/n and storms off to his room.
I stand there. Zero thoughts flooding my mind. Am I angry? Upset? I don’t even know. I know we aren’t actually siblings and I know John wasn’t my real dad, but… he took care of me. He took me in when no one else would, fed me, gave me a roof over my head, and a family: sam and dean. Why would he say that to me… did he really not consider me as his sister… as his family? I sniffle a bit, crouching down on the floor.
“Y/n…” sam says quietly, sitting down with me on the floor. “You know Dean didn’t mean that.. John was your dad too. He was a dad to all of us, you know… he takes grief harder than the rest of us”
Sniffle… Sniffle… Sniffle
“Still, I don’t know… that felt different” I wipe my tears with the back of my hand. “He’s never raised his voice up at me… I never wanted anything less for him.”
“I know… me too… it’s just been a rough couple of weeks, he’s been sleeping terribly and drinking a whole lot more than usual” Sam rubs his face with his hands.
“It’s my fault though… I should’ve returned your calls and texts. I know you mean the best for both of us; I’ll be honest, it’s been rough for me too. I just… I don’t know ive kept my phone on silent and just didn’t want to deal with anyone… even you.”
Hearing sam confess his true feelings felt like a demon blade right through my chest. He didn’t want to talk to me either. All this time, they’ve been grieving. Maybe I didn’t truly understand, John did raise them all their lives. Their mom died when Dean was just four years old and sam at six months. I don’t know anything about how they feel. They’re broken and lost. A piece of them has been shattered and they can never get that back.
“Im sorry Sam. Im so sorry, ive been so selfish and I wasn’t caring about you guys at all and I-“
“No. Stop, you are the most caring, loving, kind-spirited person I know and I love you so so much. Dean is just… We’re just… We have a hard time regulating our emotions especially right now. If we give ourselves the chance to sit down properly, we’re going to lose our minds.” Sam exhales fast, holding his thoughts in for so long.
“It’s not you, I swear. But he shouldn’t have done that to you, it was fucked up and he knows it. I promise he will come around and apologize, you know he’s stubborn so it might take a couple of days, hours if you’re lucky, but knowing Dean… were pretty lucky all the time., right?” Sam chuckles, glancing at y/n’s glossy eyes. “Please stop crying, it hurts me a lot more than it does for you to see you like this.
“I know… I’m okay...”
I had doubts, I know Sam says Dean said that out of frustration but I don’t know. I’ll give him some time though, I know he looked up to his dad for everything. He cared so much for him in deep admiration and devotion. Just like how I feel about Sam and Dean. I push myself off the floor, dried tears smudged on my cheeks.
“Rest now, you’ve had a long day, and there should be Chinese take out in the kitchen” I hug Sam: rubbing his hands up and down, letting him know I’ll be alright.
—————— ————time skip———————————
I lay down on my bed with music blasting in my headphones, listening to “Carry on Wayward Son” by Kansas; Dean’s favorite song. He told me anytime I’m upset, mad, happy, or confused I can always play this song and I’ll know what to do. I gave him space for a couple of hours and now I can’t fall asleep. I hate being in any grey area with Dean, he took care of me after John was gone on hunts as well. He was always there for Sam and I.
I hear a quiet knock at the door.
“Come in” I sit up, taking off my headphones to see who’s about to walk into my room.
“Hey… can we talk?” Dean says leaning against the door frame, crossing his arms.
“Yeah, what’s up” I scoot over making room for the both us on my twin xl bed.
“Y/n… Im so so sorry for how I acted with you today, I was a complete fucking jerk and I didn’t mean anything I said.” Dean spits out disappointingly. “John— dad. You lost him too, not just me nor Sam. You. You lost the only man who ever cared for you, loved you, knew you”
“Dean—“
“No. Let me continue. Dad was in your life for fifteen years. Fifteen! What right did I have to say that he wasn’t your dad either? I knew you since I was twelve, sammy was seven. We grew up together. We’re always and will be family. How the fuck could I say that to you?” Dean covers his face in his hands in shame.
“Y/n, ive been so selfish, I should’ve stopped what I was doing after dad died and just been there for you, for sammy. He’s been trying to stop me from going on all these hunts, but I won’t listen. I never listen. That’s my problem, im such an idiot.”
“Please forgive me, I didn’t mean it at all. Ive been in my head and these aren’t excuses but it’s just been so hard. It’s just always been so hard, and now dad gone just feels like my breaking point. I should’ve replied back to your calls and texts, Ive just been so angry and I just needed to kill. I needed to get out all these thoughts, and the voices out. I couldn’t stand a second staying in the bunker.” Dean’s softly sobbing now uncontrollably.
“Dean… I know… I just know how close you were with dad, I should’ve considered what would happen-“
“No, you shouldn’t consider anything. Im the oldest, I shouldve been there for you, and not the other way around. It’s just been so suffocating lately. I can’t breathe, I can’t walk, I can’t eat, for life doesn’t feel real anymore.”
I scoot closer to Dean, picking up his head.
“Don’t talk like that, we’re here still: sam, cass, and me. Your family is still here and we care so much for you. We are so loved Dean, please see that. I know it’s hard right now but going through this alone, and isolating yourself? That isn’t the way to go, we will get through this together. Like we always do. Family sticks together, Winchesters forever”
Dean’s glossy eyes reaches y/n’s; he reaches out, grasping to the sides of head, and brings it closer to him. Kissing the middle of her forehead, he says, “I never deserved you.”
“I never deserved you; I never knew I’d get loved like this ever again from people. Until John came, and told me it’s okay to come home with him. He told me he’d protect and care for me. But within all that, I never knew I would get two amazing brothers along the way.”
Dean rests his forehead against y/n’s. He takes her hand in his and squeezes it. Dean has always been this hard core man from the outside, but truly he’s just a hurt child. He always has been. It hasn’t been easy for him: losing his mom, being forced into the family business, surviving each hunt, and caring for sam. I could never blame his behavior now, he just hasn’t had the time to heal. He needs to heal, but he can’t.
“I love you a lot Dean, I hope you know that. I truly do.” I kiss the side of his head.
“I know you do, I love you a lot too y/n, you’re my little sister. Forgive me please.”
“I forgive you… but no more hunts, at least for now, we need to all take time and grieve, and spend some time together. No hunting business, no demon or angel business, just family. We can even go see Jodie for a few days?”
“Thank you y/n, seriously. Thank you for forgiving me because I don’t think I would have been able to sleep tonight if you didn’t. And yeah whatever you want to do: a family trip! Seeing Jodie will be amazing, little trip into the forest to the cabin.” Dean smiles facing y/n while pushing her hair out of her face.
“Perfect! We’ll tell Sam in the morning, it’s almost three a.m. we should probably try to sleep now.
“Yeah, you’re right,” he gets up and walks towards the door. Turning around abruptly, he says “thank you again, sweetheart. I know I let my emotions get the best of me, but I’ll try. I’ll try because I don’t want to make you feel like you don’t belong in this family. I could never let myself live again if I said that to you again.”
“I know Dean, trust me I do. Im glad we talked, dad wouldn’t have wanted this between us would he now?”
“No, he wouldn’t. He’s probably calling me an asshole for saying that to you, Im definitely on his bad side right now.”
“He knows we’re struggling, he won’t blame you and neither will I.”
Dean chuckles, smiling to the ceiling. I can still see how broken he feels inside, but it won’t go away in one night. It’ll take time and im willingly to help him out, im willing to help them both out.
“Goodnight y/n” Dean whispers
“Goodnight Dean” I whisper back.

Comic seven is lowkey making my heart hurt. Like, it was good, but I fucking hate what they did to the characters. The mercs got shoved to the side for the sake of “LOREEE!!!” and then when we finally see them focused on again, it’s just a time skip where we really don’t know jack nor shit about what they’re up to or like now. My boys deserved to have some focus on their individual characters each. This is the ending of the comics and most of the lore after all, we have to acknowledge the characters that made this story possible in the first place. The jump cut to “and they lived happily ever after” just makes me feel like shit. We probably won’t get anything major regarding the canon of the mercs again, and it feels like they just didn’t bother to send them off correctly. Also I can’t fucking stand the time skip trope I’m sorry it’s just lazy and takes away the interesting factor of timeline progression, that being character development. I wanna know how they ended up where they ended up. Ugh, I don’t know why this is distressing me so much but it is. Also bonus points to anyone who can guess who anon (aka yours truly) is because i think it’s pretty obvious haha. Sorry for the wall of text.
GOD yeah you put it into words for me. it was just a general “yeah everyone’s okay and fine yipeee!!!” with no regard for the specific mercs, just the collective.
