WAS PICARD DISAPPOINTED?
In Deja Q during the Conference Room scene, Picard says to Q that line, "You must have so many enemies....Some of them might look you up."
"It had occurred to me."
Then, Picard declares "And for all your protestations of friendship, your real reason for being here (on the Enterprise), is for protection."
What protestations--plural--is he talking about?
Except for Q's iconic line to Picard from earlier, "In all the Universe, you're the closest thing I have to a friend, Jean-Luc," Q hasn't declared himself a friend of anyone else, or offered friendship to anyone else other than Picard.
So, in terms of "protestations of friendship", what is Picard referring to other than what Q said on the Bridge?
Was Picard disappointed in a way?
Was he in a REALLY small way-- as in a "Blink and you'll miss it" kind of way, let down at the possibility that Q really did not regard him as "the closest thing he had to a friend"?
Did Q unintentionally hurt Picard?
Q's insistence that he could still be a part of the team trying to move the moon around Bre'El IV, falls on deaf ears with Picard.
"Human or not, I want no part of you. (Q)"
Picard hides his feelings for Q very deeply, lest he loses control and his rigid Starfleet image cracks.
But, I think maybe for a second, Picard felt Q's desire for protection, which motivated him to say that Picard was the closest he had to a friend, was proof that Q really wasn't sincere. 😢
The unfortunate reality is that even though he wanted protection from the Calamarain, Q was sincere in what he said to Picard with his "protestations of friendship."
It was a letdown for both of them.
He wanted to believe you, Q!
Anyone else agree with my take?

yk now that I'm thinking about Deja Q again, I definitely feel like Q's admission of guilt and shame for Data's (almost) sacrifice should have been met with SOMETHING other than dismissal by Picard.
This is the Q who was ready to snap your entire species out of existence simply because he didn't personally deem you worthy of existing.
This is the Q who was so flippant about loss of mortal life that he flicked you halfway across the universe to introduce you to the Borg, only to essentially laugh in your face for being upset about the deaths of 18 crew members.
This is the Q who, earlier in the very same episode, practically mocks Data's desire to be human due to his own prejudices against what he deems to be a vastly inferior species.
And I do think it's even more important that it was Data. For Q to feel anything other than apathy towards a potential loss of life would have been enough, but for him to feel ashamed to the point of almost killing himself over an artificial life?
idk I just feel like Q in any previous episode would have been like "oh he's just a robot, put him back together 🙄" and I think it's wack that Picard's reaction to Q caring about someone else's life for the first time ever was "girl idc cry about it to someone else"
#yeah.#overall I liked Deja Q cuz it's nice to see more of him than in other eps and I liked the concept#but it could have been executed a lot better I think#even Riker's face when Picard's trying to rescue him#and Picard having to justify it by saying he's trying to save the shuttle more than Q#y'all have literally done more for people who fully grasp the concept of mortality and would still kill you regardless out of malice#you tried so fucking hard to get Worf to donate ribosomes to that Romulan who would still blow up your ship after given the opportunity#Q doesn't know any better to a certain extent bc he's literally immortal#but no fuck that silly costume wearing bitch#star trek q#q star trek#deja q#star trek tng

These Aren't My Colours, Chapter Three: I should have said Klingon
“You can't do this to me, Jean-Luc…” he whispers, barely registering the feel of Worf grabbing his arm. His mind whirls as the final pieces slot into place. The Elders have engineered this entire encounter so that Picard and his crew have no choice but to believe he is behind their current predicament, adding an extra layer of distrust to a situation which was always going to prove difficult to navigate. The only chance he has of convincing them is to endure whatever indignities they choose to put him through next. Preferably with as much dignity as he can manage.
It's taken far longer than planned, but chapter three is finally live!

ways that good omens season two is similar to star trek: tng season 3 episode 13 "deja q":
- guy previously considered evil shows up randomly and completely naked
- said evil guy asks if there is anything he can do for one of the protagonists and is told to die
- said evil guy also gets really into a chocolatey treat of some variety
- gay as fuck
