Things I noticed about TMNT 2012’s ships are that they weren’t strong at all. April x Donnie had so many ups and downs I still don’t know what to think of it considering one moment she’s ignoring his feelings and then the next kissing him. Leo x Karai, they are literally portrayed as siblings yet still enforced as a ship?? Raph x Mona is good just they we’re already kissing the episode they met. And Mikey x Renet is a HUGE age gap (seriously) and him with shinigami prevented her Character growth
Honestly all the ships were written badly. You totally nailed them!
April and Donnie is toxic. Plain and simple. Ain’t an argument out there that can justify and explain why she toys with his feelings and manipulates him to her advantage. And like, Donnie isn’t innocent either. He’s stalking her, objectifying her, obsessing over her. I don’t get why it’s the fan favorite.
Leo and Karai stared out OK, but once they introduced Karai as Miwah and revealed she was his SISTER, it should have ended right there. After that, Karai seemed to lose her autonomy too. Her mutation into a human-snake hybrid had little to no effect on the story after the arc ended. Karai was also... never around later on.
Raph and Mona Lisa wasn’t terrible starting out. It moved too fast but it could have been good. What gets me is the moment Raph realizes he likes her—they’re in the middle of a fight and she punches him or whatever, and he stumbles back before saying “wow, I’ve never been hit like that before. It felt kinda... good.” It’s... it gave me weird vibes.
And Mikey... even just the fact that there’s two pisses me off. Opinions aside, if he was dating Renet, he shouldn’t be flirting with Shinigami. I don’t understand why they’d introduce that element, it robbed Shinigami of any autonomy. But back to your point, Anon, Renet and Mikey have a huge age gap and their “long distance relationship” would wreck the space-time continuum.
