Chapter 11: Pink Jumper - Harry’s POV

It’s 2013.

It was just weeks before the TMH tour starts and the boys were doing last minute preparations before they head out all over the world for another 9 months.

*Ding*

“Didn’t even last five minutes” Harry’s eyebrows furrow as he thinks to himself.

He looks over to Niall smiling down at his phone, reading one of Y/N’s messages about God knows what.

“She’s managed to send Niall about a dozen messages within the past hour, but couldn’t bring herself to send me one over the Holidays?”

“You do know you look like a bloody idiot doing that,” Harry hears Louis say.

“Doing what?” Niall asks innocently.

“Oh for God’s sake Niall. You’ve been glued to your phone and laughing by yourself for about two hours now. And that’s just since the rehearsal’s started, the ride over here was no different mate.”

“Give him a break, Lou. It’s probably Y/N.” Zayn teases.

“Didn’t expect it to be anyone else really.” Louis rolls his eyes while laughing

“Piss off.” Niall laughs.

“What’s up with you two? Ever since December last year you two’ve been inseparable.” Zayn asks.

“Yeah mate, you never told us what happened after Cirque. If it weren’t for pictures of you two all over the internet we wouldn’t have known” Liam adds.

This was Harry’s cue to leave. He stands up from where he was sitting and excuses himself. He wasn’t sure he was ready to hear what Niall was going to say.

Harry remembers everything from that night. He does because even after downing glasses of alcohol he was fully aware of how Niall’s never left your side since you’ve arrived at the club filled with heavily intoxicated party goers.

He remembers the awful sort of burning feeling in his gut he felt that night and wasnt sure if it was because of the amount of alcohol in his system or because everytime he’d look at you and Niall, Niall was whispering something in your ear and Harry would hear you giggle.

Harry didn’t like it at all.

It was the giggle he’d hear when you and him were playing video games and he’d try and cheat his way into winning by taking your controller and tickling you at your sides. The same one he’d hear all those cold nights when you two would sneak past your guards, out of the hotel and head over to your favorite little cafe back in New York that served the world’s best hot chocolate in his opinion. Y/N would laugh at him when he drank from his cup and a foam moustache would form on his upper lip.

Y/N’s laugh was his favorite sound in the entire world and it made him insanely jealous that it felt like it wasn’t shared between just the two of you anymore. Now Niall was privy to it as well.

As if she was listening to his thoughts, and right on cue he hears it.

“Hey Harry.”

He turns around and sees Y/N. She and Gemma brought takeout for the boys.

Harry didn’t know anyone could look as pretty as Y/N did wearing an oversized pink jumper and black ripped jeans, and he blushed when Y/N flashed him a smile.

“Cat got your tongue, brother?” Gemma whispered to Harry.

“Oh, stop.” Harry whispered back. He playfully puts an arm around Gemma and covers her mouth with his hand in an effort to hush his sister.

Y/N, Harry, and Gemma joined the rest of the boys chit chatting and catching up while the boys had few minutes to kill before rehearsing again.

When Y/N sat herself beside Niall, too close for Harry’s liking if he’s honest, Gemma shots Harry a quizzing look.

She was used to seeing Y/N and Harry being two peas in a pod when they were together. It was as if an invisible string tethered the two of them to each other. They would always have little inside jokes and quietly laugh amongst themselves, and she would notice how her brother’s smile would always be bigger and brighter when he’s with Y/N.

Gemma and Y/N were really close as well. She was a fan even before they met and even had a few of Y/N’s merchandise. Something Harry had conveniently mentioned during their first meeting, laughing uncontrollably at the sight of his embarrassed sister. But most of all Gemma loved that though Y/N was already really big and famous when they met, they still had a lot in common - like they’ve been friends for years.

So when she saw how Harry was with Y/N she was beyond ecstatic. She was sure Y/N was it for Harry. She would even refer to Y/N as her “sis in law” when it was just her, Anne and Harry earning a sheepish smile from her brother.

It was even a bigger shock when after all of them were finished eating,

“Thanks for the food, princess” Niall says and kisses Y/N on the cheek placing an arm around her and hugging her. “Missed ‘ye.”

The rest of the boys and Gemma froze in their seats for a minute at Niall’s sudden display of affection. Well all except Harry, it seemed like he was out the door faster than lightning.

As soon as Niall’s lips touched Y/N’s cheek and he saw Y/N smile at Niall’s gesture, he felt like his ears were burning and his eyes clouded with jealousy. It was only when he reached outside that he noticed his fists were balled up and his nails dug in his palms so hard it left his skin red with nail marks.

“You idiot!” Harry hears Gemma’s voice.

As he turns to face his sister, tears were threatening to fall from his red eyes.

At the sight of her brother clearly torn up over what happened, Gemma’s expression softens and she opens her arms to hug her not so little brother.

“Oh, Harry. What happened between you two?”

“I don’t know.” Harry sniffles into his sister’s hair. “It hasn’t even started, but it feels like it’s already over.”

what did liam payne do?

Okay, ofc I can’t say definitively one way or another about anything in the celeb world, but here’s what we know:

1. Liam has been in PR relationships – the most obvious of which being his romance with “sophia” who was meant to be the girl he asked out 20 times in school but who always turned him down. Small problem – he actually said the girl’s name in early interviews, and it wasn’t sophia, it was emily.

2. Simon Cowell is a disgusting creep – he’s publicly supported/bailed out a friend who was up for charges of sexual abuse against a minor. He put harry in a pr relationship while he was underage to caroline flack, who was SIGNIFICANTLY older than him. Then, all of a sudden, liam ends up in a relationship with cheryl, who he first met when he was 14 years old while she was in a position of power over him as an xfactor judge throughout his adolescence, and she was significantly older. and that was meant to be a great, romantic love story? coincidence, i think not

3. The management company is genuinely evil – this isn’t just some fan consensus thing, it’s actually an industry consensus. Just look at Rebecca Ferguson’s legal battle to leave them and all the documented abuses against her. When you’re signed to them straight out of xfactor, you are given a very small time frame to look over the “contract”, and only given lawyers from simon cowell and the management company as reference – so not independent 3rd parties. They’re known to be one of the cruelest companies to be signed under, and almost impossible to be freed from – its parent company being sony, who we’ve seen in the kesha legal battle against her abuser, as well as in history with the likes of michael jackson, who you can see holding a “fuck sony” sign. Almost all of the artists who originally sign with syco have left them (when they were able to), often to other subsidiaries of Sony. There are management companies with specific focus on negotiating with sony to free artists from their contracts (see: frank ocean releasing 2 albums on the same day to release him from album # contractual obligations to leave his contract; this is the same company louis just signed with). Finally, sony was also the parent company for *nsync’s management, which we know from the band actively closeted lance bass – he was even pulled separately from the band into meetings where he was told that if anyone found out he was gay or he came out, not only would it mean the end of the band, but he’d be destroying his friends’ lives and careers as well, and that all the other members of *nsync would hate him.

4. There’s issues with his baby scandal – it was one of the longest pregnancies of all time, racking in about 11 months? before the baby was born. There’s long-standing rumors in the industry that cheryl is wlw and in a relationship with a former girls aloud bandmate(?), and that she had wanted a baby through a fake male celeb relationship – this was posted on blindgossip about 1 month before the “baby scandal” broke. Believe what you will about that. Liam spent hardly any time with his baby, and he spent the majority of the time not in the same country. He missed the birthday and father’s day. When they ended their relationship, they posted almost identical tweets at the exact same time…. simultaneous to the sun “exclusive” from syco favorite dan wooton, which included quotes OF THE TWEETS THAT HAD JUST BEEN POSTED AT THE SAME TIME THE ARTICLE WENT LIVE. Finally, now that they’ve broken up, Liam is living it up, beaming on a yacht with friends, holidaying in cannes with genuine happiness on his face, while the media posts articles about how “devastated he is” and how he’s “moving on with [insert famous female model here]”.

5. During tmh tour, there was issues with z*rrie/cheating scandals – almost everyone agrees at this point that z*rrie was a pr relationship – the suspicious “engagement” that nobody had a clear story of how it happened, when, or pretty much any details surrounding it, including and especially the bandmates of both groups, combined with the fact that it ended almost exactly 1 year? after it was announced, following the album/tour cycles of the groups, tells you a lot. There were 2 main cheating “scandals” that broke – the weird “fans filming through the peephole of their hotel room door zayn and a bodyguard loudly and publicly arranging hook-ups with fans”, and the aussie waitress story with the “photos of zayn naked in bed” that she supposedly took. For the aussie waitress story – nobody took it seriously and discredited it, from the media and the fans. There were serious holes in the story. However… if the pictures weren’t from her, where did they come from? They had to come from somebody with access to that. Maybe they came from p*rrie and that whole PR situation, maybe from zayn’s phone himself, but… the other option is in fact Liam. During that time, they did several lyrics changes on stage for LWWY, where “don’t let the pictures leave your phone” became “don’t let the bitches steal your phone”, while pointing to liam holding up an imaginary cell phone.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

6. Between uan and tmh tours, zayn and liam became very close – now this one is purely subjective perception. From the fandom at the time, and living through those tours, I remember that out of all the members in the band, liam was the most uncomfortable with the physical closeness between the band members (also known as homosociality, or physical intimacy and affection between people of the same gender that is plantonic in nature – in western culture unacceptable for men due to the spectre of homosexuality, but for women is seen as natural and expected). I’ve always kind of attributed that to the fact that we know Liam was extensively bullied in school, and who his friends were at that time. He very much fronted the ‘bro culture’ thing in the early days. As time went on, being around the band, gaining success and confidence in himself, you saw him become visibly more comfortable on stage – and with his band members. Mainly, zayn. You saw them rapidly become much more physically affectionate and intimate on stage with one another. At the height of this, along with circling media rumors surrounding the old interview quote where liam talks about how he kissed zayn out of the blue one day… that’s when danielle and liam broke up.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯  this is all 100% speculation, believe what you will about any/all of it. All I’m saying is that after his relationship with Danielle ended (which I believe was genuine!), he’s only ever dated two other women publicly – sophia (*cough* emily? *cough*), and cheryl; both of which I choose to believe were PR relationships. So what changed when Liam broke up with her? The timing of other stuff happening in the band leads me to believe I know the answer to her “you wouldn’t believe me if I told you”.
