TMBM Fun Fact Friday #3

Archways, Last, and Whiteburst’s designs used to be different when they were still Cloak, Ledge, and Sage.

Archways and Whiteburst were still recognizably the designs from the game just with some changes to their cloak patterns and that’s about it.

But Last’s old design was much MUCH different. Originally they weren’t even a living ancestor at all! They had an entirely unique design in the early days and were merely a new age Rythulian like Archways and Whiteburst who had simply gotten out of the Path far earlier than anyone else and had become world weary.

Some aspects of this design still carried on such as the tattered look and thicker scarf. Ultimately, TMBM was always a homage to all the effort that went into the game and so as time went on i realized Last’s original look (among others too) didn’t reflect that sediment and so Last was changed to be an ancestor.

TMBM Fun Fact Friday #4

This was meant to be a longer one, but I can't find the scrapped writing I wanted to use (thought I had in on docs, but it might be on my old computer or a usb XP)

so short one today! There MUST be More's old working title was simply "Journey: Beyond the Borders"

It was placeholder title until I could find a title to match my feelings when it came to the concept art book and how it made the world of Journey feel so much bigger.

TMBM Fun Fact Friday #2

When Archways, Whiteburst and Last were first created back in 2013, they were called Cloak, Sage, and Ledge.

Cloak was… very very generic /D but it took me the longest time until I finally arrived at Archways in 2019.

Sage was also very generic but it did fit Whiteburst’s original personality. Over time, Archways and Whiteburst’s personalities more or less flipped and the name Sage was changed since it no longer fit their character at all.

Ledge is interesting since it plays into how I decided upon naming conventions for later names but was really just a place holder name at the time. I felt they needed an “L” name and that fact never changed for Last.

TMBM Fun Fact Friday #1

AY! First Fun Fact Friday! :D I'm going to start off with the very first spark that would eventually snowball out of control until it became the story for There Must be More.

Archways' and Whiteburst's glyph symbols were not randomly chosen. Their symbols were the very first symbols I ever saw! They weren't from my own first playthrough however...

Rather I walked in on my brother playing the game. He had Archways' glyph and his white cloak companion had Whiteburst's. The reason I remember those symbols so vividly in the first place was because that moment was extremely memorable. Because unlike most, I wasn't introduced to Journey through the calming trailer or the allure of the gorgeous artstyle...

It was to "WHITE CLOAK FRIEND NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!", LOTS of panicked chirping, the roar of a War Machine, and my brother's companion getting absolutely BODIED in the mountain area XD

Least to say, I was a little interested.

Also if anyone wants to know just how much Last has taken the wheel from me in tmbm... (and consider this a very tardy tmbm fun fact friday lol)

The first arc was supposed to be 11 chapters long, each with the aim of 2,000-4,000ish words; Ch. 1-4 for basic set up of the main plot, then 5 - 10 each ending with the group going through a statue/spirit and 11 to be the mountain trek and the end of the first arc.

Last has effectively stretched the whole arc by 8 WHOLE Chapters - 2 of which passed 7,000 words and with several others passing the 4,000 word mark! And chapter 19 is going to be another wholeass 7,000-8,000 words! Maybe even more since i'm not even sure if I'm even past halfway done with Ch. 19 even with it's current 4,000-ish words!

I haven't even gotten to the other 2/3rds of the cast yet ;u;

TMBM Fun Fact Friday #5: Saturday Edition

Even if I've lost the chunk of writing to time, I still wanted to talk about it! It was the original half of Chapter 4 that is mentioned in the end notes of that chapter but i never went into detail.

Originally, there was one bird left of Last's flock, an elderly dove that just went by "The Old Bird" who was quite sickly in their old age. The Old Bird is still canonical to the current writing but there has been simply no spot for them to be specifically mentioned yet. The reason I scrapped this bit with them in the finalized chapter was simply because I had realized that Last would absolutely refuse to leave until they had passed.

Which would've been a touch too heavy for the beginning of the story and also would've dragged out the time spent in Last's home and made it a little too slow paced for what i was going for. So unfortunately it had to be scrapped but The Old Bird still holds a fondness in my heart <3

I'm thinking about maybe doing Fun Fact Fridays for TMBM 🤔 There's actually like.. A LOT considering i first conceptualized it late 2012-early 2013 but didn't actually hunker down and start writing it until 2019

I think i'm going to hold off on this week's TMBM fun fact friday. Today's certainly been eventful! (and midterm's close too >`~<)
