Lord Business takes master builder cutie marks and uses the magic for himself. He never got a cutie mark and never found out what his special talent was.

Emmet’s cutie mark before it was taken from him was a pile of bricks for construction. For having a talent related to building, his cutie mark was taken at a young age. It comes back and even changes after he learns how to master build.

The equal sign cutie mark isn’t seen as strange, just boring in normal society. Only masterbuilders recognize it as a caught masterbuilder. So when Emmet was captured she had assumed he was a masterbuilder who had his cutie mark removed. She’s still confused when he tells her that his cute mark was always an equal sign, as he does not remember getting it removed.

*General Sweet Mayhem trying to get out of the cage*
