Bullet point low down of my "TLJ spite fanfic rewrite in screenplay format”.
I’m gonna put this under a readmore bc it’s LONG.
The Resistance is fine and actively working to thwart the FO.
The First Order is bummed out about Starkiller Base, and actively suppressing Republic planets and using them to obtain materials for a New Starkiller Weapon.
The Resistance took over a security base on a moon of a mining planet vital to the weapon’s reconstruction.
People died, and got hurt, including Paige Tico, but she’s aight.
Kylo Ren is pretty fucked up from his fight with Rey in TFA.
Scaley bandage on his face, arm in a sling, the works.
Giant Projection Snoke tells him to take his stupid helmet off, tells him he’s disappointed, and nothing like Vader. Some insults and manipulations.
Hinting at some “teachings” he’s been trying to get Kylo to work on.
Kylo Ren wrecks his helmet and breaks his hand in the process.
Rey meets Luke and he questions her about the Force, her answer isn’t made fun of.
Over dinner (fish), Luke explains what Porgs are, Rey inadvertently tells him that Han has died.
Some emo Ben Solo backstory. Snoke got him obsessed with the Darth Vader myths. He ended up manipulating some of his peers as well...
Luke leaves for some alone time, promised to speak to Rey in the morning.
Leia introduces Holdo to Poe, she will be holding down the security base they took over. This Holdo is not white, and actually dresses like a Vice Admiral.
Gets all his wounds properly fixed (a normal and unstupid reason for him to not have a shirt on).
Does not in fact fix his broken hand, just the bloody knuckles.
Tries some Force Meditation shit and uses the pain of his broken hand to channel it... apparently Snoke taught him this.
Trying to find Rey..
??? finds her?
Rey wakes up on the Falcon, she was sleepin.
Them Force Whispers guide her to the Archives on Ahch-To.
You know how they light up the tomb in The Mummy?
Rey does that with moonlight and some old mirrors and leads her to the bottom of a big stair case.
Remembers some things Maz said about the Force as she reads some old Jedi Texts.
Sudden massive migraine when she reads briefly about the Dark Side.
Hi Force Skyping hurts like a bitch.
Rey and Kylo are both pretty fucked up by this Force Skyping.
Kylo thinks he’s actually doing it himself.
His desperate ass tries to offer to teach her again, and gets mad when she calls him out “you hurt Finn! My friends!” and she shoots him with a blaster, but it goes through the stone wall.
But that’s not all.
Rey thinking even just a lil bit about Finn.
Yo she’s in the medical bay and sees Finn in a coma and rushes over and touches his hand
Luke’s yelling Rey’s name in the distance.
Finn wakes up.
Poe is right there making sure Finn’s calm, bc he was already in medical.
Poe lets Finn (shirtless now) brace his hand on his shoulder while his back gets looked at, they get him up to date on shit.
Tells Poe about the Rey Dream.
Leia shows up, gives Finn a new shirt, and look they patched up his jacket too!
Finn says he’s sorry about Han.
Leia assures Finn that Rey is alright.
He tells her about his Rey Dream.
Leia’s sensing something abt Finn.
It’s that he’s Force Sensitive.
Leia and Poe ask Finn if he’s feeling alright and tell him they have someone in their custody that may be of interest to him.
Rey is in a blanket, her nose is bloody and Luke gives her a warm rag to clean her face.
Luke explains Force Skype.
Rey is skeptical that Kylo Ren is strong enough bc she was like Syke Bitch you’re not lookin in my mind when he interrogated her.
Rey also calls Luke out bc Force Skype made EVERYTHING ENHANCED, girl could hear / feel / see everything, even the porgs, but not LUke.
He cut himself off from the Force.
He gets emo about how failing Leia and the other students, how the Jedi ways were wrong, how they ignored ANakin’s fears and love and trauma, and it was manipulated by Palpatine who saw anakin as a tool...
The Jedi Need to End
But he’ll teach her how to use the Force.
Guess what, Captain Cardinal (from the Phasma Novel), not white, is now with the REsistance thanks to spy Vi Moradi, also not white (canon). he got fucked up by phasma but he’ll be fine.
Finn is a bit distressed bc that’s the man that RAISED him, trained him and the children troopers til Phasma showed up when he was like 12 and eventually took over training the adult troopers.
Cardinal saw Phasma’s face before she left him for dead. Nobody knew he’d ‘illegally’ brought a hostage on board, and Vi saved his dumb ass.
Now Vi has tons of intel on Phasma, and Cardinal is a high ranking First Order operative. Good edge for the resistance.
Now Phasma and Kylo Ren enter this room where two trooper kids are waiting.
These kids fucking adore Phasma, there are posters of her in their mess hall I shit you not it’s in the book.
apparently one might be force sensitive.
it’s the girl with vitiligo and she gets through kylo’s unpleasant force test.
bc she sensed that his hand is broken
Girl is so brainwashed / inspired by Phasma that she’s like “do i have to go”
Phasma’s like “this is an honour good luck” but approves the girl’s request for a final “reconditioning” treatment. it’s kindsa creepy.
Guess what the girl is getting shipped to Snoke Island to be a Knight of Ren.
Poe is probably dealing with an Acute Stress Reaction (the thing they diagnose you with until it’s been long enough to call PTSD).
flyboy isn’t sleeping well and is having nightmares.
Leia just wants him to be OKAY. tells him he’s important.
Lt Connix (Billie Lourd) shows up and tells them something is wrong with at Security base. they head to the control room post haste.
that’s where i’m at as of Dec 19 2017 at 4:30 pm. 33 pages and 7.4k words.
Rose is coming soon I promise. DJ too but his character is a bit different. Canto Bight is also different.

Learning to love ALL of Star Wars
I’ve grown a lot the past few years, and with that I’ve came to appreciate a lot more things about what I love. I’ve went from bitter and spiteful about what I don't have to appreciating what I do have, and at the centre of that storm is Star Wars. A franchise I’ve only really been invested in the last year.
The beginning
So I was always a “fan” of Star Wars, sure. I grew up with the prequels and I was excited when Disney was releasing their new movies. But the past year is where I really got invested and found a whole new love for the franchise. And strangely enough, it was through the simplicity of Lego.  You see, I started watching videos by Brickvault about Lego Star Wars minifigures, and something about seeing the toys I loved as a kid from a modern perspective took me right back to wooshing my Jedi starfighter around my room. From there, I started moving away from Lego and dipped my toe in theories, lore videos and eventually discussion and review videos, the turning point being Cosmonaught Variety Hour.  Now, I have some opinions on the guy now, but Cosmonaught was perfect for me at the time. He was opinionated, entertaining, but most importantly knew his shit, and I liked that. His videos on Star Wars are pretty good, and really helped form my opinions back then... In a bad way... Now I’ll make this clear, this is NOT on Cosmonaught, it was just how impressionable I was as a person back then. I’m just saying how his video affected me on a personal level.  Up to this point I didn’t really understand the hate for the prequels besides the fact they were “bad movies” and “people don’t like them”. Cosmonaughts video on the prequels gave me those reasons, and I finally felt like I got the distaste for those films. However, like they say... A little knowledge can be dangerous, and boy was I about to learn that lesson the hard way...
The fall
So here I am, knower of all things, the CORRECT things... I’ve watched my fair share of videos from a handful of sources, I know my shit. I’m making my opinions known, and I’ve become that friend.  But whats this! A dissenting opinion!? My boyfriend actually likes the prequels more than the Original Trilogy!? SACRALAGE!! I must prove him wrong! And prove him wrong I...! Did not... In fact, something rather bizarre happened... He convinced me.  I was stubborn at first, but I’ll admit, my wall got broken down at long last. He (bless his soul for dealing with me) managed to get through to me exactly what it was he loved about those films, and it wasn’t just the nostalgia. I had always seen the politics of the Galaxy like most other people did, some boring preachy nonsense that had no place in Star Wars, but I came around to it.  Granted with a little help from the Clone Wars I managed to piece together just what it was there was to like about these films... I wont say they’re perfect, far from it. But internally they have so much more going on compared to the Original Trilogy. The Era has some of the most fun and expandable concepts and ideas in all of Star Wars, and while it may not be as iconic, the visual artstyle of it all is still its own recognizable brand of Star Wars.  And almost like magic (or my phone spying on me) youtube started recommending videos that disagreed with Cosmonaught, and I got my first taste of how his video wasn’t as sound as I thought. Now as a side note: I still like Cosmonaught. He’s a funny guy who like I said knows his shit, but he obviously isnt the be all end all right and wrong which I hadn’t quite learned. I can enjoy his content while disagreeing with it, and I think thats just fine. I find myself disagreeing with a lot of creators I watch now and he’s just joined them.  But hang on, we’re missing something here... A certain... Mouse? Perhaps?
The dark times... The Disney Empire...
So hop back to modern day for a sec, this timeline pretty much lines up with the end of the Disney movies right? So how do I feel about those? Well... When the first three came out, I liked them. Like everyone else I was loving new Star Wars. As a young art student, I loved Rogue One and TLJ for their stunning visuals, deeper themes and their attempt at something new and fresh. I loved the throne room fight scene, the light speed ram and how Rogue One had such a bitter sweet ending.  But ho ho no one else felt that way! And whether it be peer pressure or my love of dumpster fires my opinions changed like that. I laughed at the Rose Tico and Snoke memes, I hated the Canto Bight subplot and poor Luke being butchered on screen like that, and then there's Rey...  Solo came and passed. I refused to go see it, as I did with TROS which came out around the time I was getting back into Lego, and along with the prequels I was watching video essay upon video essay about why the sequels sucked and how to rewrite them. Some of them coming from a positive place, others... Not so much..  And so my hatred for them grew as I got back into the franchise and came to appreciate the originals for what they done great, and loathing the new films for lacking that same spark. And unlike the prequels, I didn’t really get enough pushback to change my mind. But what I did get was the full brunt of spite and hate the fans had for these new films, and honestly? It was depressing.
Hate leads to suffering.
I finally reached my rock bottom. I genuinely reached a point where I debated giving up Star Wars for the sheer amount of negative feelings I had towards the state of the franchise (which might I add is valid if you ever end up feeling that way about something you’re meant to be enjoying).
I struggled to get past how Disney “ruined” Star Wars, and clearly nothing was going to change. 40 Years of history had been wiped out and the new timeline was a contorted mess, and the amount of discourse and disagreements in the franchise honestly did not help at all.
Nothing was simple, everything had a catch. You like how Kylo was irredeemable in TLJ? Well he’s redeemed in TROS. TFA is a fun film but it sets up a lot of the things people hated about the sequels so you cant even just head canon that the other two never happened. And then...
Saved by Lego
There was Lego, making the best of a bad situation. It didnt care if you didn’t like that Palpatine was back (somehow), it didn’t care about the clunky prequel dialog, and it didn’t care about the thousands of retcons from the entierety of the franchises existence.
Whether by contractual force or not: It was pure, distilled Star Wars.
I loved how a set with Rey could stand beside a set with OT Luke and thats just how it was. It put into context that this was reality, and I could either be bitter about what could have been or accept what was, which wasn’t easy and I’m still not really over it. But I reached a place where I could accept the fun in all of Star Wars, that I liked how some of these characters looked, that these characters all existed in one Galaxy, and it was nice.
And it led me straight back into...
Learning to love Star Wars
One of the most important lessons I learned in the past year was trust your gut. Sure, hear out other peoples take on something, and if it changes your opinion all the more power to you. But don’t fight the fact you felt something in that initial reaction. I liked the prequels as a kid, so why don’t I as an adult? Is it because i outgrew them and see them for the disasters they are? Or is it because a someone who watched them as a fully grown adult that grew up with the OT was underwhelmed?
And to that extent... I rewatched TFA and TLJ with an open mind and an open heart. The result?
Im indifferent towards TFA. It has fun character moments and has a decent adventure, for what it is its good. But I actually found myself enjoying TLJ after all these years of hating on it. I liked their take on Luke, I liked the mutiny subplot, it didnt push the story forward leaps and bounds but it was a more methodical take on the franchise and for the I liked it. It wasn’t perfect, its biggest flaw is how bleak it can feel and its lack of doing anything interesting with its setting, but it does do a fair amount of decent things and I’ve come to appreciate it for that.
I’m planning to watch TROS at long last soon, so maybe I’ll update it here. But what I will say is that I hope Lucasfilm don’t give up on the sequel era and characters quite yet. There is still a lot to love here as much as you may not like it, and I hope that they can explore more interesting meaningful themes and narratives in external media that they couldn’t in mainline films cough cough Stormpilot cough cough...
I know not everyone will agree with how I feel now, heck a lot of my problems I had still stand, but I’m at peace with it all now. I just want to sit back and enjoy this franchise for what it is. While I might not forgive Disney for its severe mishandling of... everything (a rant for another time) I’m content just not them supporting to the best of ability.
Star Wars is in such a unique position where each generation has a different stance and appreciation for different parts within the franchise. The prequels were hated until its fans grew up and started defending it, The Clone Wars was hated until its fans grew up and started defending it, and the sequels ended last year, their fans haven’t quite got their voice yet. But I’m interested to hear what they have to say.

Details: Dragon Age 2, coffee-shop/London AU, E rating, finished
Summary: Hawke spends his days working for the London Mayor’s office and daydreaming about the cute barista at his regular pre-work coffee stop.
Review: The first fanfic I ever read, this initially charmed me because I’ve spent rather more time than is healthy in that particular part of London (for someone who has never lived there) and then I stuck around because the story is just so damned cute.
Re-Entry / Journey of the Whills by @deadcatwithaflamethrower
Details: Star Wars, time travel/canon divergence, multiple works, E rating, in-progress
Summary: Obi-Wan turns away from the celebration on Endor, and wakes up forty years in the past as a Padawan again. But he’s not the only one, and things only get stranger from there.
Review: This is an epic in the purest sense and the first Star Wars fic I ever read (which was waaaaay back in... 2016. Shush.) It’s also super well-written and addictive as fuck.
Sith Apprentice: Darth Venge by @tsaomengde
Details: Star Wars, canon divergence AU, multiple works, Mature rating, in-progress
Summary: Inspired by Re-Entry, Obi-Wan never became a Jedi, while Maul became Qui-Gon’s Padawan.
Review: Another freakin epic, this time rewriting the Prequel-era canon. This one kept me up way too late because I didn’t want to wait to find out what happened next!
The Silver Answer by @enemyofme
Details: MCU, no powers AU, Teen rating, finished
Summary: “ Steve Rogers never got the serum. He doesn't have superhuman abilities. What he has is a paintbrush, some stage props, a stomach full of spite, and a Bucky Barnes. “
Review: The inflatable "Ghost Army” was a real thing, and I absolutely adore the idea that it inspired the legend of Captain America. Funny and sad by turns, well worth reading.
Tell Me No Tales by @reluctantcoppercrowds
Details: Star Wars, canon divergence AU, Teen rating, in-progress
Summary: Years after Order 66, the clones’ chips break down. Cody finds a new purpose in aiding the Rebellion in secret.
Review: Do you like clone feels? Have some clone feels. Oh, and survivors’ guilt, have some more of that, too. That reunion is gonna be so worth the wait.
Thicker Than Blood by @ladyananas
Details: Star Wars, canon divergence AU, Teen rating, in-progress
Summary: Jango survives the arena on Geonosis, thanks to a quick-thinking Boba. But now everyone thinks he’s a clone, and Boba’s gone missing.
Review: Clone feels, but worse, because Jango begins to bond with them and doubt himself. Requires a little suspension of disbelief, but a lot of fun.
By the Still Waters by @emilyenrose
Details: Dragon Age 2/Inquisition, canon divergence but not necessarily, Mature rating, finished
Summary: Hawke was left in the Fade. Fenris is Not Happy about this and decides to Do Something.
Review: One of the most beautiful canon-compliant Inquisition-era fics, highly recommended.

You got it backwards. The original idea for the ST was to have two equal heroes, Kira and Sam, but over time focus shifts to be more and more solely on Kira, later Rey, with Sam/Finn nowhere in sight. Sam gets some decent development while he's still a smuggler/rogue type, but mostly that's about fitting him into Kira's story. After he becomes a Stormtrooper he's only mentioned in two ways, how to get him out of the FO/neo Empire and then how to get him involved with Kira. 1
Outside of that Sam gets nothing and even that little dries up completely when he becomes Finn and then John is cast. At this point Sam/Finn ONLY exists in connection to Kira/Rey's storyline and not as himself, while Kira/Rey is all over. Finally the point was that if Sam/Finn had a storyline of his own that was clearly discarded for TLJ, there was no reason not to include it in the TFA art book. There's plenty of those for Kira/Rey, not none for Sam/Finn 2
And given that the script and storyline for TLJ was done long before TFA was done and while the art book was still not finalized and printed, if such a storyline for Sam/Finn had existed there is again no reason not to bring it up as it has been discarded already. Only real conclusion that can be drawn is that Sam/Finn at this point have no independent storyline apart from Kira/Rey, that his story only exists to serve hers and that that is what we'll see in IX too 3
As for John's excitement none of you seem to recall how he acted while TLJ was shooting, or you try to rewrite the past to suit you. John behaved the exact same way during the TLJ shooting as he does now. The only difference is that he never made a montage of where he was shooting, but given that basically all his scene were at the studio he couldn't. He haven't shown anything of the Pinewood shootings this time either. 4
It is also placing a very unfair burden on John. I saw a lot of how he was blamed for being initially enthusiastic about TLJ as selling a fake story to the fans and that he shouldn't have supported it at all, even though Finn's original story in TLJ was decent and if it had been kept intact would have been the best part of the movie. 5
Which is another reason why I don't put faith in his enthusiasm, because he have no control over what JJ will do and the major part of Finn's story won't end up on the cutting room floor. Especially when you consider that JJ was the one who originally left Finn/Sam with no clear storyline of his own and have his story be wholly subsumed by Rey/Kira's he's likely to continue that trend. 6
Plus there's so many things IX have to do so a storyline and arc that form the start wasn't there for a character that is so clearly indicated to be secondary will take a back seat to the main plotline which will be Skywalker drama. As for the co lead, can I point to ANH and TPM where first Leia then Padme had a big part but they both too way a back seat after? In spite of their plot prominence in the first movies of their trilogies. 7
And saying that this is different because it is meant to be Finn's and Rey's story doens't cut it. Not when the TFA art book make it so blindingly clear that that concept was abandoned long ago and that the ST at the time JJ got to shooting it was Rey's story and Rey's alone. That Finn was only there to support her character and development. I hope I'm wrong about this, but the TFA art book and everything else indicates differently. /end
tbh at this point im not really sure what we’re arguing about and why. like ive said before, i am concerned about finn’s story in ix and thats the only thing ive got major fears about. however, old concept art from before tfa was even released doesnt mean anything. thats all the way back before finn even had his name and was designed as white. concept art isnt story boards. theyre just drawn ideas for characters, costumes, sets, etc. plus we know that whatever plan jj had was thrown out by rian so we dont even know whats going to happen. i just dont have to energy to be arguing about this concept art thing anymore

The idea of a time skip doesn’t seem like a big spoiler, would it really be breaking the NDA to say that? I’m trying to think back to what we heard before TFA and TLJ. I feel like saying there’s a time skip is on the same level as the ending of TFA which shows that TLJ takes place immediately after.
I’m still doubting John said anything at all given the lack of a direct quote and that this isn’t all more or less invented by Ian Freer. But that doesn’t mean it can’t come back to hurt John at some point.
Because under most circumstances I’d agree with you but the security and secrecy surrounding IX is insane. Like Mark isn’t even allowed to keep a copy of the script over night, he was able to do that even for TLJ which was the most well protected movie to date. Heck, when there was some rewrites that were relevant to his role he got the script sent by courier, who stayed with him in his room while he read and had to take the script back with him when Mark was done.
And in spite of his incessant trolling Mark is not a man to blabber about things he’s not supposed to be talking about and he’s someone who is both respected and trusted, but even he can’t keep a copy of the script over night?
So while a confirmation of a year’s worth of time skip might not seem like a lot, when held up against the absolutely insane security measures taken to prevent any sort of leak prematurely, I do worry how this is going to reflect on John. And yes even if he never actually said anything, because I doubt the fallout will hit Ian.
So I am worried, even if it might seem a bit excessive.
