I'm wanting to read more books but attention/focus hard
What's the rough concept for the jack sparks book you were talking about? I'm tempted to do the Spotify audiobook 👀
OMG YES ANY EXCUSE TO GUSH ABOUT THIS BOOK! Plus, it’s just so damn good & thrilling! It really starts off with a bang (even if the narrator himself is to stubborn to open his eyes)
Don’t worry about spoilers, I don’t say anything that’s not in the summary or within the first few pages
But the book is about the infamously acclaimed journalist Jack Sparks, who died while writing this book. Author of hits such as Jack Sparks on a Pogo Stick, Jack Sparks on Gangs & Jack Sparks on Drugs, Jack Sparks on the Supernatural was supposed to be his big comeback after rehab.
But after laughing during an exorcism & fucking tweeting about it, shit starts to hit the fan. A very creepy video pops up on his own YouTube channel & is promptly deleted, & no one knows the origins. He starts to dig deeper into the occult. Somewhere along the way he sticks his nose in the wrong place, bites off more than he can chew, & he pays the ultimate price.
Cocky yet lovable son of a bitch & one hell of an unreliable narrator. Mostly in the sense that he wants to come off way more aloof & brave than what actually happened

The Last Days of Jack Sparks by Jason Arnopp.
Hmm.
Hmm.
It follows an up-tight, ego driven atheist in his journey to disprove the supernatural and piss me off at the same time. it’s written in a first-person, house-of-leaves style descent into madness and posthumous published manuscript, beware.
I am forgiving of the whiny male narrators, because if In The Woods or TLDoJS had been female protagonists, the horror would be gone. This book is reliant entirely on the slow-motion train wreck style of an arrogant piece of shit digging himself a very, very deep hole.
However, I couldn’t put it down. It was cleverly written and had none of the wordy pauses that HoL had. The lighter atmosphere meant it was only a mild spook, but it did well. I liked it.

Headcanons for me myself & I because I’m the only one who cares
Jack Sparks has few friends & isn’t close with very many people. In fact, you might call him an insufferable narcissist. Dude truly never shuts the fuck up, & he basically only ever talks about himself. So those he is close with absolutely have to resort to tickling him if they ever wanna get a word in edgewise
It’s the best way to humble him, so he desperately tries to keep his sensitivity a secret. Can’t let all the people know the great Jack Sparks is *gasp* ticklish!
Even tho he’s not in touch with his brother Alistair anymore, when they were growing up, he was always the loser in their tickle fights. Just comes with being the younger sibling
Whenever they would meet up, Alistair likes to rag on him & tickle him when he’s not expecting it. Because sometimes he needs to be reminded he’s his brother & not only the acclaimed journalist
Bex’s only defense against Jack’s endless blabbermouth & pompous, holier than thou personality is to tickle him senseless. & this really doesn’t help with his hopeless crush on her
Since she’s he’s roomie, she’s basically the only one who tickles him anymore, which he tries not to think about because wtf he should be happy no one does that to him anymore…
He’s already an unreliable narrator so you know he’s in such denial about how ticklish he is. At first he flat out denies it in the most matter of fact tone he can muster. But if you manage to get him to crack he concedes that he might be just a wee bit ticklish, but barely. He just really tries to downplay it
Next thinks it’s the funniest thing in the world & loves nothing more than to rub it in. Sometimes he’ll just be watching tv or trying to work & she pops out of nowhere & wrecks him just for the fun of it. She says just living with him is justification enough
Because he’s investigating the supernatural for this book, he stays in a few haunted hotels & b&b’s to see if he experiences anything. At one of these places, he was woken up in the middle of the night by something tickling him. & not a light tickling either, his room got a noise complaint. The staff were sympathetic & amused because this shit just happens sometimes but he is SO huffy & flustered & is a dick to them all because their ghosts can’t keep their hands to themselves
He does NOT put that in the book. Not only is his entire world view recently shattered because holy shit ghosts are real, but he cannot grapple with the humiliation that he was tickled by one. He’d rather die than put that in his book (HA!)
That’s all I got for now. But this man needs a double dose of humble pie & I had to get my thoughts out

Here’s the Spotify link for the audio book, if that doesn’t work, I would think somewhere like audible might have it. But this book is definitely worth checking out, it’s thrilling, funny, witty & downright scary! & I’m dying to be able to talk about it!
