A few words about Josef Muller Blockmann
The artist was born in 1914, he studied architecture, design and history of art in Zurich before he begun his career as an apprentice to Walter Diggelman in 1936, right after Diggelman won a gold medal in the Art Competition at the 1936 Olympic games in Berlin. By 1950s his style was so established that he created his own agency and became one of the mvp’s of the Swiss Typographic Style also known as International Typographic Style. On the other side this style emerged in 1920s in Russia and Germany, having Akzidenz Grotesk introducing his own typeface, that was one of the first attempts to this, portraying things that are found in real world in typography. Furthermore, in Russia the constructivism movement leaded by the soviet painter Vladimir Tatlin has been a major influence to what we can see nowadays in the Swiss Typographic Style.
A specific piece of work that intrigued me from Josef Muller Blockmann was ‘Music vive’. This creation was a design exhibition that has been initially showcased in 1957 at the Tonehalle Orchestra Zurich, a symphony orchestra from Switzerland. Years after the first showcase of the revolutionary work of Muller, the Swiss government decided to reinstall it in the Zurich gallery airport. The aesthetic of it it’s based on the Swiss Typography, that creates a very vast identity between the image and the musical accompaniment. Reading through one of Josef Muller’s interviews on eyemagazine.com, he stated ‘I have always felt obliged to make a constructive contribution to the future of the society’ has really made a mark on my future development, because this is one of the ideas that I personally had on my mind since a young age.

the play's the thing by violetmessages ( JackIanto, GwenRhys, GwenJackIantoRhys | WIP | 2260 | T )
Really this wasn’t her fault. No really! Gwen was a perfectly stable person. Well, maybe not stable -- she did rejoin her job that almost got her and everyone she loved killed -- but she was capable of thinking things through and having a good head. No one in her life would call her impulsive -- okay, most people would call her impulsive, but Gwen would not call herself impulsive, which was the only thing that mattered. Which was why what she did today was not impulsive. Nope, not at all.
