The dance scene is finally here!
And it didn’t disappoint, even better than what I imagined it would be *cry*. Also, turns out it was Tiw who taught and trained them the dance. He indeed plays any role, all roles, necessary to support not only Tinn and Gun to get together, but also to help Chinzhilla, and again, not only about the Hot Wave competition but also their love life.
Whenever I thought that no episode would top the previous ones, every new episode proved me otherwise.
#my school president#msp 💚#dear show you had my full heart please don't break it later#🥺🥺🥺#tbh i love you've got ma back as the title credit song more but the new one somehow is better fitting the new mood phase#also i'm having this whole new pack of feelings on soundwin that clenched my heart i need more of them#i just love this show so much!#they're cute so cute the cutest thing!#yeah that's my msp tags.#can i just have you every friday for the rest of this year *heart eyes*#i know it's not everyone's cup of tea -- both the singing and dancing -- but it's definitely mine!

I've finally found the time to watch all the trailers from GMMTV 2024 part 2, so here you go, like last year:
A New Liveblog Reaction:
The Heart Killers: okay so we're starting very strong with a crime drama romance where First investigates Khaotung and Joong, who are brothers (?) and kill people. Then I got distracted because the song they used is the same they covered in MSP and I have still brainrot from that one. Also their names are Style, Fidel, Bison and Kant??? I cannot take anyone named Kant seriously, the guy almost made me fail philosophy in high school, I have personal beef with him. NEXT!
Revamp the Undead Story: ah yes, a classic horror drama. We have abandoned houses and pale vampires; people who cut their fingers on shattered glass; we have it all! I love how there is another vampire show to look forward to at this point. I was already waiting for Golden Blood with Gawin, but I guess I'll add this one to the list as well.
Perfect10 Liners: I genuinely have no idea about this. I feel like I've seen this story before. The only couple's story I find more interesting than the others is Mark Junior: they've had lovely storylines so far as a duo and I'm curious about their future projects too.
Ossan's Love Thailand: I am crying watching Earth making puppy noises!!! This definitely looks like a total change from his previous roles, where he was old, grumpy and mean, lmao. I guess everyone in the office seems to have a crush on him in this one, (which makes me think about Cherry Magic and how much of a green flag Achi and Karan were) (but the standards are too high on that one) and it's HILARIOUS hearing him complain to be too hot. I have never seen EarthMix in a comedy role so I am looking forward to this one: it seems ridiculous, can't wait.
The Ex-Morning: Aw, I'm glad KristSingto are back with something that isn't SOTUS, because I still haven't finished the second season of that one, but I liked them working together. This series looks like a riot and I will be seated. (Although they've shown one or two frames full of angst that I will most probably cry about so) (yikes) (they've decided Krist nails angst and put his characters in the most horrible situations, like) (give the guy a break)
Thame - Po: Heart That Skips A Beat: this story seems quite interesting, especially the life of idols and production companies. I might keep an eye out for that too.
The Dark Dice: this started as a school drama full of fights and blood, but suddenly turned into Jumanji/Saw and I am. Here. For. It.
Sweet Tooth, Good Dentist: I genuinely do not care about this, but every time I think about dentistry, James Acaster's voice comes up in my head and says: "Do the tooth teeth have teeth too?" and I think that's beautiful.
Break Up Service: this looks fun, not going to lie.
Hide & Sis: the title sounds so silly, but the show seems pretty fun to follow. Can't wait for it to be some Saltburn / Home School / Little Women (Korea) type of thing. I want the ladies to destroy stuff and kill people, I don't care.
Us: why does this look so angstyyyy??? where are my funny silly GLs???? where are my disaster wlws??? anyway, we'll watch, obviously
Friendshit Forever: another absolutely out of nowhere title, lmao. But this is Do Revenge with a sprinkle of A Simple Favor??? I will unfortunately eat this up when it'll come out. Also I love Mook and New, so this'll be fun.
Scarlet Heart Thailand: very fast, and I don't know the original story, so I have no idea what to expect. I love period dramas and the costumes look nice. I've read that the original doesn't end well, but yeah, the teaser is in itself very angsty, we'll see I guess!
Leap Day: this thriller looks quite interesting, but I don't know if I'll be able to watch it without being stressed for the entire run of it.
Yay! Let me know if there's more new trailers I haven't seen, I have been offline for a couple of days and I might have skipped something else.
#gmmtv 2024 part 2#my post i guess#what do i even tag this with#thai drama#???#idek#valentina liveblogs stuff#i tagged every series in the other post but i don't wanna do it now#i don't even know every single show's tag#vabbè

Gonna choose a couple from the title game: nlmg odyssey (I am going to become one with the dirt), search history fic, and for a random number I’ll pick 15
YIPPEE thank you for asking beloved! okay so.
nlmg odyssey (I am going to become one with the dirt)
how you managed to ask me about the fic I am currently the most feral about is fascinating ajldfskf. okay so I have recently entered my odyssey brainrot era because of epic the musical, and I was word vomiting to a friend about it and made the connection that palm, my current favorite Guy to Put in the Torture Machine, is incredibly odysseus coded. what followed was a feverish me sitting up and typing out a mostly incoherent nlmg au where palm is, indeed, odyseeus, and nueng is penelope, and the situations that occur. I need to clean it up a lot, but the concept is probably one of my all time favorites and I'm so excited about it!!
search history fic
this one's tinngun! it's set around the time where tinn realizes he has a crush on gun, and the formatting is like you're seeing his phone (including but not limited to his search history), with hits such as 'am I gay quiz', 'what does it mean if I keep thinking about a boy who sang a song on my birthday' and 'how to stop blushing'. it also includes how tiw finds out about his crush, and true to msp it's mostly a series of comedic errors <3
random draft #15
okay this one gets a snippet, simply because I think it's really funny
#do NOT ask me about my fics I start foaming at the mouth sldkfjsdlkg#bubbaknowlton beloved#ask answered#writing to the void#distant screaming screams into the void

@troubled-mind's 5 ql songs tag ✨
When you get this, list 5 songs from the Asian QL shows that you actually listen to. 🎶They do not have to be custom-made for the series. 🎶Non-western tracks only. Let's support Asian music and languages! 🎶Feel free to tag anyone who may be interested in participating. 🎶Add #5qls tag to your post for others to find the new favourites!
i'm not sure who to tag (maybe @hoppipolla my other Music Mutual; no pressure 💜) i hope i've done this right; let's go!
boun - your smile / between us
youtube
actually all of the between us osts they released post-series & their mvs slap, so it was really really hard to pick one. (regular ost good also,💜 u boy sompob). please also consider prem's it's always you & yacht&o's unexpectedly (yacht is such a good singer?????) but this one's my favorite. it's just so peppy and cute :')
coldin - romantic devil / semantic error
youtube
i went into this tag game knowing it'd ruin any chance of people thinking i am an Obscure Music Liker:tm:. yes my choices are popular but it's okay. romantic devil slaps so hard you guys there's just no getting around it. i highly recommend it for pretending u are in a music video while shopping, it's a really good soundtrack for that (also this live clip??? 💜💜💜)
khaotung - over the moon / the eclipse
youtube
look. look what did you expect
(to be clear my favorite khaotung song is actually never too late, but i haven't seen 55:15, so i can't in good conscience put that on here. listen to it it's so good)
i listened to over the moon prior to watching the series actually, courtesy of my spotify recs, and i do just really like it. there's a pretty decent chance it's gonna be in my top 10 in spotify later this year, i'd say. i love how echoey & vibey it is
gemini - hook / my school president
youtube
this is the best msp song don't @ me. sorry rock & star it is pretty close, but not that close. i always like a song like this that is about other songs (hozier's almost / sweet music too, ex); it suits tinn's character and the themes of the episode it's introduced in and it's just a very pretty song. gemini has such a nice high singing voice
beverly - andante hourglass / our dining table
youtube
i don't think i've seen it like, listed as that english title, but that's what sunadokei means. the ending theme of bokushoku is on kat's original list and also very very good, so a secondary add here, but i really like this op. her voice is very pretty & the song is bouncy and cute, and the lyrics meaning is so..... soft. about a slow-moving hourglass and the precious, dreamlike time we have, and that even when it runs out itll be okay. share all your sorrows and happiness as much as possible [cries a little]
bonus: gawin caskey's cover of bird thongchai's fog or smoke / dark blue kiss
youtube
youtube
gawin is the only bl guitar boy i'll defend to the death. ill defend some others but not to the death). this scene in dbk.... i actually stopped & went hunting for the original song (a banger!) bc i just really enjoyed his voice & how well the song & the ensuing conversation suited mork.
here's a full cover from a fanmeet with podd (although beware the audio quality and, bless him, podd joining in)
(also ALSO dbk's opening has such memorable violins i had to say something. its so catchy)
#5qls#rowan lore#musicposting#if you saw this earlier no you didn't#(it wasn't showing up on my dash. if it did actually work and u got doubletagged i'm so sorry)#(it doesnt really surprise me - linkposts & the tumblr tags are not friends)#in any case also -- those lyrics for the bokushoku op are a paraphrase but#i did translate it myself#yey for my minor doing something for me sometimes#maybe someone else has but a cursory google search revealed nothing so.#this was v v fun thank u <3

Part II: Day 100. 💯
💯 A Hundred Days Off: Looking back on the first 100 days 💯
I was on an airplane coming back from Philadelphia back in 2003 or so when I heard it for the first time.
A copy of the CD made its way to my mailbox via eBay just in time for me to slip it into my CD wallet. I packed it along with a dozen or so other CDs and my CD Walkman, knowing that I could put it on and chill on the way back home, the public radio conference I’d attended then behind me.
It’s the 2002 album by the British electronic music group Underworld: “A Hundred Days Off.”
Spotify is playing it as I type this, but I still have the CD on the shelf.
It just so happens that I’ve had a hundred days off, too. Samesies! 💯💯💯
Every time I hear it, I’m transported back to that window seat on that PHL > MSP flight. Though only three years into my official professional career, I felt grown up. I had a suit on, and I’d ordered a scotch and soda from the stewardess. Another conference under my belt. Claimed my luggage, took a taxi home, and crawled into bed exhausted but feeling accomplished. Very grown-up things.
The album makes only one other reference to days off outside of the title, and it’s in the song title Two Months Off. It’s not about vacations, leaves of absences, holidays, sabbaticals, PTO, or layoffs. We hear more of the abstract poetry that you’ll find on their other albums. No connections to work or jobs in the song, as far as I can tell.
If you’ve been following along with me on these hundred days off, you’ve seen that making connections in copy is a hobby of mine. I try to keep it light, but I’m also keeping it 💯 real. There’s usually some humor in this experience, and I do my best to shine a light on it.
In these 100 posts you may have observed: 💯 I’m always excited to find an album title to help make a point 💯 My employment history is full of weird and unexpected roles 💯 I’m whole-heartedly dedicated to the content discipline 💯 I like to pair an image with text to make something new
I’ve made lots of connections with people, too. People that have reached out to me, people that I’ve reached out to, acquaintances anew and in common. In the absence of regular meetings with colleagues, those connections have been a lifesaver. I have one set up for tomorrow with a new connection.
The idea to point out the 100-day landmark has been on my Notes topic list for a few weeks. It was one of those cross-that-bridge-when-we-get-to-it things, and now that bridge is underfoot. The number isn’t actually important. It’s only symbolic, a mile marker on this road that leads to the next role. I hope there’s a rest area to pull off at soon, because I could use a pit stop. 💯

a fascination with Ted Kaczynski is something i've carried with me since i was 13; the age i was on the year the Unabomber was finally apprehended. the idea of a technophobic hermit who made a conscious choice to opt out and weaponize his intellect against a world that filled him with nothing but spite has always spoke to me on a deep level. i had a long term goal to write a long-form project about Kaczynski, which never made it past a mix-tape soundtrack i threw together, consisting of songs released in 1996, which utilized the above MSP track as an "end credit" theme. the idea ended up reemerging in a much different form as part of my DERACINATE novella, namely the section titled "UNDERSEER", which centers around a heavily fictionalized surrogate for Kaczynski.

Some background about the song in case anyone's interested.
This is a cover of the original released last year by the boyband New Country. The song title is Stand By หล่อ, and if you can sense an old-time twang, that's because the composition has roots in Thai country music (luk thung or ลูกทุ่ง) although the original version by New Country is a contemporary song, not a traditional one. (Satang is absolutely splendid in evoking the older style of luk thung with his crying vocals and sliding into his notes, rather than hitting them on-pitch).
Actually the MSP concert producers went for an older, groovier feel – the original by New Country has quite a modern arrangement instead:
youtube
Old-time luk thung is unashamedly and unironically cheesy, which also explains the boys' costuming at the MSP concert.
And the song's ties to luk thung are deep – Stand By หล่อ was written by none other than Got Jakrapun, the Prince of Thai luk thung himself. He was also behind the formation of New Country, envisaged as a modern luk thung boyband (see this article linked here).
If Got Jakrapun's name and the twang of the song are sounding familiar even though you don't know luk thung – you may be remembering the time they were vividly evoked at the KinnPorsche World Tour.
Build Jakapan (Pete in KinnPorsche) was actually named after Got Jakrapun because his mom was a fan back in the day (Jakapan = Jakrapun because, you know, Thai language). And Build (before he resigned from Be On Cloud) paid homage to his mom and to his namesake at the KPWT concert by singing one of Got Jakrapun's most famous songs – 1997's I Love You More Than Anyone (รักคุณยิ่งกว่าใคร). If you listen to that song, the similarities with Stand By Lor are unmistakable – they have the same jaunty beat, and the melodies are in minor mode while the mood and lyrics are cheerfully (and cheesily) upbeat. 👍
youtube
youtube
I wasn't expecting to like Stand By หล่อ, but the song is so bouncy and fun, and the boys did such a good job (can't believe they're singing live, while dancing) that I'm absolutely hooked – listening to it on endless repeat now! 💖
PS I have to agree Aun is dazzling. They need to give him more stuff to do! 🤩
no because when i was watching the clips of my school president prom night on stage day 1 without subs, the group performance that was most fun to watch was Stand By Lor right? such great dance moves, very groovy, very traditional vibes in places (aka satang & ford's vocals).
BUT THEN I SAW THE SUBTITLED VERSION OF THAT PERFORMANCE I AM LOOSING MY MIND OMG do yourself a favor and watch this

Thanks for replying! Kinda glad that I may not be so wrong about that LBAL lyrics, cause I would feel like my life is a lie otherwise. RITH being Nicky is shocking, feels like such a Richey song. Do you have any good tips/resources on how to spot Nicky's lyrics? I haven't paid as much of attention to his work and I would like to be better at spotting his lines. Also thanks for indulging me, I like your MSP posts so much and it's such a joy to be able to engage!
A lot of the very early days Manics was Richey and Nicky working together on lines, or things being rearranged by James after they’d already been written. But there are lines that are definitely Nicky or Richey products rather than a combination of the two. They also definitely have their own individual styles and preoccupations, which makes it easier to pick out what lines belong to which person.
Nicky is flowery but straightforward in his lyrics, whereas Richey is waaaay more abstract and also more outgoing (and generally darker in a more intense way). For example, This Is Yesterday is a Nicky-penned lyric on THB that is about nostalgia and looking back on the past. Die In The Summertime is a Richey-penned lyric with the same themes. But Nicky's imagery is a lot prettier even when bleak (and it circles around one of his personal themes, which is being solitary and the positivity of alone-ness) and feels more bittersweet than painful. The images themselves are pretty concrete: the exploitation of ideas, lying in a field and looking at the sky, images of the entropy of time and nature.
Richey's imagery for the same themes are darker, more cynical, self-hating, and straight up suicidal. By the way, Nicky said in an interview from 1994 when Richey was in hospital that the scariest line Richey wrote was the "tiny animal curled into a quarter circle" line. They're also more abstract: images of trying to stay young-looking despite the entropy of time and failing due to the constant need for upkeep, envisioning your younger past self, the brilliantly surreal "I have crawled so far sideways" line (which is one of my favorites), Richey's usual crooked return to religious symbolism.
Richey also writes about sex or sexual situations way more than Nicky. Nicky tends to write poetic phrases that are still mainly grammatically correct and full phrases, whereas Richey often uses soundbite-type phrases that omit filler words, more like news titles or blurbs, or just crunches words together Burroughs cut-up style. Nicky’s writing is more traditional style poetry. It tends to be more languid and romantic. It also tends to be more personal. Richey wrote a lot of songs from the point of view of other characters, or ones fairly devoid of a referenced “self” and just pure political or social critique, and the ones that do reference a self are very self-antagonizing, whereas Nicky tends to antagonize others.
I have a theory about JFPL being a stylistic take on Modernist literature, and I think that’s the difference between Richey and Nicky. Richey basically spewed out loads of imagery and opinion without necessarily connecting it all, because the whole point is the impression given in the song as a whole, rather than a complete narrative or metaphor (except for the songs that are essentially character studies of others). Nicky writes more like traditional poetry or perhaps postmodern poetry, very personal even when it’s political, and the imagery tends to all connect to each other in some way.
(I also think Richey was big on forcing listeners to do the work to understand what he was saying. It’s part of why a lot of us love the Richey era stuff; it really forced us to read and research in order to understand everything. It made us smarter, which always feels good, and makes you feel like you’re participating. Nicky is not as intense and makes his lyrics much more accessible and far less stuffed with references. This is why they got big after Richey’s death and not before. Sadly it has also become his downfall in the last 2 albums imo.)
Richey's themes usually are really scathing and obscure political references, control (or lack thereof) over the body or self-image, skewed religious symbolism, and abstract imagery placed situationist-style into the lyrics. Nicky's themes tend to be comfort, being alone and enjoying it, politics but with more straightforward themes and more accessible empathy, and his style is more straightforward metaphors. There are also words or word types that one or the other tends to use more than the other (“hate” is a big Nicky-word, for example).
THB is mostly Richey with random injections from Nicky in various songs; it’s a lot harder to tell because I think Nicky really only contributed a few lines or parts of lines here and there. In GT and GATS their writing was slightly more equal but you can still sort of tell who wrote what.
Some songs that are easier to tell who wrote what are Nostalgic Pushead, Stay Beautiful, Another Invented Disease, NatWest Barclays Midlands Lloyds, and Drug Drug Druggy. I’m pretty sure the chorus to Nostalgic is Nicky, or at least it’s Nicky’s structure. Stuff like “radio nostalgia is radio death” “60′s alienation the anthem of care / now a knife constantly slashing eyelids” and most of the middle 8 is likely Richey. Stay Beautiful I think is primarily Nicky, but I do know the “why don’t you just” part was Richey’s idea, so the audience could shout “fuck off”. “All we love is lonely wreckage” is such a Nicky line, he very much goes for lines about loneliness but he also likes images of destruction and damage, but things that are more general, nothing as visceral as the knife slashing eyelids line. “Anxiety is freedom” could have been either of them, but I’m guessing it’s another Richey since it’s based on Kierkegaard. Or it’s a JDB contribution, considering his tattoo. The chorus to Another Invented is very Nicky, again it goes back to his themes of being alone and being bored. I think this is one where they wrote back and forth because “Left alone in corporate slums / Where germs are free not amex fun / Healthy bodies in empty minds Only exist in advert time” is all very Richey, obsession with control of the body as well as the affects of capitalism and mass culture and more abstract line imagery like “germs are free not amex fun.” Thematically it’s definitely a song they wrote together because it hits all their favorite things to critique, from capitalism and mass media to politics and the overwhelming-ness of human interaction. (Side note: I think Love’s Sweet Exile is one they quite literally wrote back and forth, perhaps two lines at a time, because the imagery switches back and forth, and the ending lines of each verse have the “cos we hate” line that is very Nicky.) Drug Drug Druggy is another one I think they went back and forth on, because the opening verse is all Nicky themes, but “Wanna stay in 666 where this darkness don’t lie” sounds like young Richey. Richey used a lot more slang language or sentence structure than Nicky. Also, Crucifix Kiss has very Richey themes of religion; the “Listen to Luke sermon six” line is absolutely his. The whole song is specifically a critique of televangelists and people like that. Whereas You Love Us is that sort of sweetly creative, sort of glam’ed up antagonism that is very Nicky. There are some songs, like La Tristessa, Sleepflower, or Little Baby Nothing, where their interests and themes overlap really well so I’m not sure who wrote what lines except maybe one or two that really jump out as one or the other of them (which also could be down to JDB’s editing; I’ve always wondered how much longer a lot of these lyrics were until they were edited down and rearranged by James and Sean into something usable).
The fact that Richey wrote most of THB and all of JFPL and a number of manifestos for zines, and then we get all of Nicky’s solo writing endeavours after Richey’s death, means there’s actually really good examples of each of their “solo” writing styles and thematic preoccupations and things, which is the best way to figure out who wrote what.
Oooh, I had a lot of thoughts! Thanks for enjoying my MSP posts! There are more older ones on my other blog @meta-squash reposted from my old blog from before it got deleted in 2017, if you want to check those out too! (Also feel free to come talk to me about Manics at any point. Much as their newest album disappointed me, I still love all their old stuff!)

Skills
Cover photo: https://www.ipr.edu/blogs/audio-production/what-can-i-do-with-an-audio-production-degree/
As mentioned in the 'Industry Research' section of this blog, it isn't just the technical skills future employers will want to see. They want to see how your passion and art is fuelled also!! Sound design is more than just a series of sticking sounds together in a DAW. It's all about creating the other half of the story!
Core values & necessary skills
In my blog's branding section, I spoke about core values and those I deem to be top of my list. Core values make us who we are. It's what drives ambition and our creative thought process.
Accountability is high on my list of values/skills. Being accountable for the amount and quality of work we do is crucial. Often we dismiss our failures because we won't hold ourselves responsible. Though, at the other end of the spectrum, we more often than not, sing our praises. So holding yourself accountable as an individual or team unit, is just as crucial during the failures as it is during the success.
Whilst, teamwork is a very cliché term used with regards to employability, it remains a massive part of my core skill set. Being surrounded by team members is an excellent way to find a creative place in a project. I can then take those ideas and present for peer review. Having people to work with not only makes producing a big project easier. Still, it gives me a tremendous sense of satisfaction that like-minded creatives have come together to create something incredible.
Passion is a big part of what drives me. Music and composing is such a wonderful expression of artistry for me. Not just the music side of things, but I then took my love for music (and audio in general) regarding sound design. I began exploring the more intricate realms of audio. Each day my passions grow, but I NEVER wonder why I love what I do, not even on my worst days.
Respect is a skill I'm continually re-evaluating. I think it is undeniably essential to respect other people and their creative differences.
Continuous improvement is about always finding new and exciting ways to work. Technology changes exceptionally fast these days, and in audio production, the skillsets also have to change. Keeping up to date on industry techniques, skills, and methods will ensure I stay relevant to the expected work output. There are some general skills required to be a sound designer composer within the creative industries. However, some more specific skills are necessary if specialising in TV & film or games.
Basic skills:
Creating, maintaining and backing of own original sound libraries.
Digital signal processing
Producing sound maps/ storyboards from scripts.
Mixing inside Digital Audio Workstations
Work along with side other members of the audio post-production team
Sector-specific skills
TV/Film and Game skills:
Compose and engineer music
improving sound quality
Spot, arrange and edit audio into video, or other mediums.
Use visual logic systems such as Max MSP.
Use of game implementation systems, i.e. Unity, Unreal, Fmod and Wwise.
Layering sounds to have a desired/or specific effect.
I have begun creating and collating my sound libraries last year. At first, I had incredibly long titles for samples and one-shots but started finding it hard to achieve all of the sounds (both RAW and edited). That was until I came across the word 'metadata'. Having a logical and easily navigable database of sounds is crucial to making my workflow more efficiently. I'm starting my journey into audio metadata with a free app called Soundly. Soundly offers a free-plan with up to 2500 local file storage and access to free cloud-based sound effects. To start, this will be ideal, but I would like to look at other plans that will include Cloud storage backup in the future. Currently I backup all of my libraries onto an 8TB desktop drive, another external HDD and my google drive.
What is digital sound processing or DSP, you may ask? Digital sound processing is where audio converts from analogue to digital signal. A series of mathematical calculations are then applied before the signal returns to analogue before final output. As a producer/composer/sound designer, I use various plugins to manipulate the sounds inside my Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). Plugins come in many forms. VST is the most common form of an audio plugin and is Microsoft's Virtual Studio Technology. Avid uses its plugin file system called AAX (Avid Audio Extension), and Apple uses its own AU system (Audio Unit).
Below is a small list of plugins that I utilise during my time working on projects in the studio:
Fabfilter Pro-Q 3
Waves H delay
iZotope RX8 - Music Rebalance
Facebook 360 Spatial Workstation AAX plugin (Pro Tools)
I use Logic Pro X as my music production/composition DAW of choice. I believe this offers a great deal of flexibility to music composers alike.
In contrast, I use Pro Tools as my post-production tool. Here, I produce final mixes of songs before proceeding onto the mastering process, which I also use Pro Tools. Pro Tools is also my DAW of choice for sound design work, purely because of its sheer power in dealing with raw audio.
During a mix-down phase of a musical composition, you should hear each instrument with clarity. Musical instruments all operate at different frequencies within the frequency spectrum. By respecting the base frequencies at which a particular instrument's audio outputs, I can make the final asset as audibly clear as possible, for maximum viewing pleasure.
When working on sound design projects, I will often improve the sound of my source audio captured when out in the field inside iZotope RX8. Here I will remove clicks, hissing, background hum, de-verb, and even isolate parts of dialogue to ensure that audio is optimal for project usage.
I do love writing music and producing sound effects! I like to create work for TV & film, animations, interactive media, audiobooks and more. I import video assets into my DAW (Logic Pro X or Pro Tools depending on projects final output).
This way, I have a visual in front of me from which to work. You can then lock the audio event in position with the video using SMTPE time code. This way, it keeps my music and sound effects in the exact place they need to be, without fear of being moved or adjusted in any way. Just don't forget to lock the positions!!
Max MSP is a powerful visual logic system for generating sound design and producing electronic music. I am new to this software and am learning new and exciting ways to integrate MAX MSP into my DAW workflow. I decided to explore the unique and intricate methods of composing music and designing sound for various media forms.
Examples of work
The best way to showcase both technical and artistic skill is quite obviously through social media platforms. Instagram has become a staple platform where businesses and creatives promote themselves and their craft. There are other platforms such as YouTube, SoundCloud, Twitter, Facebook (and don't forget LinkedIn!) to name but a few. With all of these beautiful places to promote me and work, I must consider the type of content I post to maintain maximum engagement with audiences and potential employers.
After many years of making and producing music at home, my interest in exploring the world of all thing's audio continued to grow. I purchased myself a simple, cheap portable recorder, some dirt-cheap microphones, and just went out and explored the world around me. At first, I made some novice mistakes in just aimlessly pointing and pressing the record button. Still, I soon learned that I merely heard things playback after recording. I never stopped to listen before I hit that big red button!
Slowly I got better (still, a long way to go), but most importantly I absolutely loved the process, and still am! I took great inspiration from reading the sound Effects Bible by Ric Viers (https://www.ricviers.com/sound-effects-bible) and Field Recording from Research To Wrap by Paul Virostek (https://www.creativefieldrecording.com/downloads/field-recording-from-research-to-wrap/). Both explain in great detail about how to get set up, get a recording and start collating my sound libraries.
With that said here's one of my first sound design projects. By this time, I had upgraded my audio recorder and had a few new microphone additions. Jez Riley French's D-Series Hydrophone, C – Series Contact mic, and his electromagnetic coil mic. Again, it was a learning curve starting with these new bits of kit, but I am genuinely pleased with how much this project turned out.
Without further ado, I present to you a lovely piece of animation by Polynoid, titled Mem. I create a gorgeous stereo cacophony of delicate sounds with Sci-Fi and electronic elements that lend itself well to the animation's energy.
ENJOY (with headphones is best!))

Soundrs: Wichniowski
Wichniowski is the creator of Kryptostudio, a standalone software tool for MacOS. We love to use it for percussive sounds, grab it ➜ here. Also check out his other projects. Now let’s dive in!
What are your inspiration sources?
I get inspired by a lot of things but mostly it’ll be contemporary art, architecture, design and other musicians and artists. I always set a theme, form or concept to a track before I start, the same goes for my instruments and plugins. Kryptostudio sound design was heavily inspired by rough brutalist architecture.
Tell us something about your workflow. / How do you start a track?
I usually start designing and recording drum sounds and sequences from my modular system, VCV Rack or Max/Msp. I create multiple banks on my Machine or sample collections for tidal cycles and start jamming away. As soon as my patterns match the aesthetics I’m looking for I start arranging them as a song in Ableton Live.
How would creative rituals benefit your workflow?
I’ve got a ritual to create Pinterest collections and YouTube playlists of pics and videos that set the mood for the atmosphere or aesthetic or even explain a concept that I want to try in my production.
How do you get in the zone?
Mostly by jamming.
Do you have a special template?
I’ve got multiple templates for Maschine I created for quickly synthesizing drum sounds. These contain different VST’s per pad or samples I recorded.
What do you put on the master channel?
An EQ, Stereo Widener and Limiter.
How do you arrange and finish a track?
I have a very loop-based production flow. I start with a simple loop and overdub until i've got a selection of phrases I then arrange to a track.
How do you deal with unfinished projects?
Most unfinished projects are unfinished for a certain reason. I keep them, sometimes revisit them but get to the same conclusion why I left them in the first place. Sometimes though I work on a track for one year, constantly revisiting changing a bit until it’s ripe and finished.
How do you store and organize your projects?
I use Splice to backup, share and collaborate on those tracks. Before that I organized them by EP or concept title in a Dropbox folder.
How do you take care of studio ergonomics?
I prefer a small setup to quickly switch movements between my hardware, computer and controller.
Tell us something about your daily routine, how is your day structured, how do you make room for creativity?
Since I work all day as a developer I start later in the evening. Often there is a transition from my couch to my small studio, where I start playing with VCV Rack or Max/Msp.
Share a quick producing tip.
Always backup!
Share a link to an interesting website (doesn’t have to be music related).
➜ Telemark.io is a sonic exploration tool and crowdsourced drone radio I developed some months ago. It’s a fun tool to generate soundscapes and play with basic subtractive synthesis.
List ten sounds you are hearing right this moment : )
* neighbours screaming
* cars driving by
* a radio in the distance
* the keyboard clicking
* my chair squeaking
* my feed tapping
* doors being opened and closed
* the coffee machine
* a subtle humming from my living room speakers
Thanks Wichniowski! If you want to get featured, send a message here on tumblr or email [email protected].
