Uploading some of my old Africa photos. The first photo was taken just off the main market area of Stone Town in Zanzibar (which is part of Tanzania). Some of the art you see on the right side is known as Tingatinga, or Tinga Tinga. This style of art was developed in Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) and later spread to most East Africa. We have a few pieces here at home on our walls. The painter typically uses vibrant bicycle paint. If you guessed “made for tourists,” yep, you’re right. Regardless, it’s fun.
The second photo was taken in the main market in Stone Town.
Quiz question for you. Stone Town is famous for being the birthplace of which famous rock star? Freddie Mercury. Back then, when he was born, the legal name of his birthplace was the Sultanate of Zanzibar, which was a British protectorate. Mosque towers dominate the local landscape.
