La mode Mardis/Fashion Tuesdays
Conde Nast Publications - bye bye Edward Enninful at British Vogue.
Next British Vogue “editor” will only be a “Head of Editorial Content” reporting to Anna Wintour.
(If you can’t access the article let me know).
Article’s opinion is that with Enninful’s departure, there will be much less progressive content in the foreseeable future like trans models and men like Timothee Chalamet featured on the cover of a Vogue publication again.

Welcome (Back) to the 60's
Tumblr media
“Hey mama, hey mama, look around
Everybody's grooving to a brand new sound”
These are the opening lines in the song “Welcome to the 60’s” from the 2002 musical, Hairspray in which Tracy Turnblad sings to her mother about the new possibilities that the world has to offer in the 1960’s. Tracy is right because about 60 years ago, everyone was grooving to a new sound both literally and metaphorically. The 1960’s were a significant period of time culturally, politically, and socially. New artists like The Beatles, Joan Baez, and Bob Dylan were emerging on the scene. Bumper bangs and miniskirts were all the rage. People were fighting for social justice and facing political unrest. Looking back on it from the lens of 2024, so much has changed, yet many elements of the 1960’s are still as relevant today as they were back then.
Tumblr media
Without getting too political, it goes without saying that amidst a presidential election in America, people are anxious to see which direction the nation is headed. Student protests, assassination attempts, and ongoing wars are just some of the realities that are reminiscent of the climate of the 1960’s. Despite it all, it is the resilience of young people that triumphs amidst the uncertainty. Both in the 60’s and in the modern day, youth speak up for notable topics and underrepresented voices in their communities in order to spark change.
Tumblr media
In terms of pop culture, many of the trends of the past are having a comeback. Sabrina Carpenter is a prime example of a Gen Z performer, whose musical style and fashion is making a retro statement in the twenty-first century. From her signature blowout bangs to her knee high boots to her short skirts, Carpenter’s style screams 60’s fashion. Her latest album, Short n’ Sweet pays homage to the vintage aesthetic as her music videos reference Bonnie and Clyde and songs allude to figures like Slim Pickens. Carpenter proves that the tendencies of decades prior are alive and thriving as ever.
Tumblr media
Film is another area bringing the 1960’s back to the front lines. Case and point: the upcoming Bob Dylan film, A Complete Unknown starring Timothée Chalamet. It is safe to say that when the film is theatrically released, Bob Dylan and his story will not be a complete unknown as there will be a resurgence in the folk singer's music. This doesn’t imply that Dylan’s music ever disappeared from the scene, but rather that it will now be introduced to a younger audience after they view the film, proving that the iconic sound and lyricism of the 60’s is timeless.
Tumblr media
When people reflect on the past, they may recall the good, or not so good old-times. While the moments themselves may have blown away in the wind, the impact of those times is still present. People in the 1960’s shared many of the anxieties and fears that we encounter today. This isn’t to say that the experiences in the 21st century aren’t unique, but rather, they serve as a reminder that history has been here before and we should use the examples of the past to guide us forward. As Tracy Turnblad sings:
“The future's got a million roads for you to choose
But you'll walk a little taller in some high-heeled shoes”
Embrace the old, but be willing to try something new. Create a future that is just right for you.

Astro pt. 5
(I think it’s part 5😭)
* As a Venus conjunct pluto, Im so jealous of my cousins w Venus trine Pluto. They can easily become popular and have women drawn to them without as much drama.
*gemini rising babies are so much fun they smile so much as babies (shoutout to my niece and little cousin🥰)
* i have sun conjunct Neptune and people have compared me to a fairy
*cardi b has venus in the 8th (and a Scorpio venus i think) and she paid to get two strippers offset cheated w beat up. Scorpionic women + cheaters are a baddd combination.
*gwenyth Paltrow recently got body shamed and told to eat but shes also has a Pisces rising. They usually are very thin or have fragile looking bodies
*first house is also personality and my experience w Pluto in 1st people they are very very dominant. They’re friends follow them around, they’re used to getting their way, they have eyes on them at all times which can give them bad anxiety.
*Mars in the 2nd house men have some niceeeeeee voices like they’re so deep you can pick their voice out in a crowd
*I’ve seen Chiron in 11th be bullied as kids and grow up and become bullies. Also they might have a traumatic relationship with being in front of a camera. (Avoiding recording themselves or taking pictures)
*Virgo risings have some cool moms (sag in 4th)
*also Aries in 11th can get told they do too much on social media (posting too much or over sharing)
* I notice famous women who people claim are everywhere (basically overexposed) or in too many roles for actresses usually are Lilith dominant. (Ex: Jennifer Lawrence, GiGi Hadid, Megan thee stallion, Anne Hathaway) are they overexposed or are y’all just jealous?😭
*venus in the 1st can lead to jealousy it’s not always love and admiration. For ex: my friend saw this guy around our dorm and thought he was cute so she followed him on ig. Mind you a lot of girls in our dorm thought he was attractive (he had pluto in 1st) and many talked about him😭 well my friend saw his gf on his page and obviously left it alone but his gf picked her out of all the girls who lusted after him to be threatened by. Well his gf was an early degree cancer Venus and my friend has a Gemini Venus at 19 degrees so her Venus was in my friends 1h. She was clearly bothered by my friend specifically following him because she found her to be attractive.
*Three girls who talked about me behind my back and tried to bully me all had Aries venuses. One had my rising conjunct her Venus exactly.
*ONCE again mercury pluto are liars idk if it’s because they think they can get away w it or what but Sza has a conjunction and my good sis lies for no reason
*aqua Venus women are usually bisexual or lesbians
*Doja cat is a good example of Uranus-asc. I have a tight orb sextile and I’ve worn adventure time doc martens, strawberry earrings, bright orange hair. Think of Harper from wizards of waverly place.
*a good song for that aspect is “Secrets” by Mary Lambert. “I rock mom jeans, cat earrings, extrapolate my feelings”😮‍💨
*sun conjunct asc could make someone resemble their father or act just like their dad and I think Doja does resemble her father a lot
* also she has Saturn in 5th and her father was an actor/performer. Also she complained about working too much and many people w this aspect feel like the fun is delayed and comes after work or they very strict on themselves in fun environments. Let loose yall💕💕
* my favorite mercury sign is Taurus😭 they have beautiful voices but the way the cuss people out is so iconic to me (ex: azealia banks)
*it’s messy to bring him up after doja but idgaf😭 Joseph Quinn has mars conjunct Uranus. A lot of eddie munson’s mannerisms were erratic and I think mar-Uranus plus his aqua placements made eddie so great at the role.
*also I notice a lot of heartthrobs or men twitter went crazy for at some point have aqua placements (timothee chalamet, Harry styles, Justin Bieber, Joseph Quinn, Noah centineo, Pedro pascal) it’s opposite of Leo so I think people keep forgetting the attention magnet can go for aquas too esp online.
*since i mentioned the show another example of Venus-Neptune synastry could be Mason and Alex. All the art references, him hiding what he really was until he couldn’t, and the fears of cheating and deceit.
*a mix of Virgo, libra, and Leo can make someone the person who tries to help everyone. They will bring you food if you haven’t eaten and also lecture you but it’s coming from a good place. I think people forget how sweet Leo placements can be (ex: Bella hadid for someone who grew up w money she’s very humble and you can see this in multiple instances. For example sza thanked her for helping fix her hair at the met gala)
* she also have Venus conjunct ascendant which I think makes someone’s Venus traits stand out. I’ve noticed people w Venus square their ascendant don’t really openly express love for people and can even get called “cold” esp by family members.
*She also has Saturn in the 7th which could mean dating older partners or partners w cap placements. The Weeknd was older than her and he has a cap Venus + mars.
*certain placements can get away w a lot. Chris brown has a history of abuse yet women seem to still support him (moon conjunct Venus). He also has mars opposite Uranus which is a temper problem indicator
* fixed risings 🤝 pixie cuts/bobs (ex: Marilyn Monroe, Halle Berry, Zendaya, demi Lovato)

#writtenbyawoman
A couple of years ago, BookTok and BookTube - the literary subcultures of TikTok and YouTube - started a meme, #writtenbyawoman.  The idea of the meme was that men, as written by women authors, were–well, terrific! Wonderful! Kind, gentle, considerate! To say a man was “written by a woman” was to give him the ultimate compliment: to put him in a category with men like Mr. Darcy, or Laurie from Little Women, or the Hot Priest from Fleabag. This complement has moved past fictional characters to be applied to real men (as in, “OMG he’s amazing, it’s like he’s written by a woman”), as well as to celebrities (e.g. Harry Styles, Timothee Chalamet. Hozier.)
This is one of those cases where fandom’s hit on an idea that academia has also explored. In the introduction to her 2017 book, Heartthrobs: A History of Women and Desire, historian Carol Dyhouse notes that:
“The icons of romantic literature — Mr Darcy, Mr Rochester, Heathcliff, or Rhett Butler — were mostly, in the first instance, products of the female imagination. Movie stars and rock musicians acquire and cultivate images that in many cases have little to do with their ‘ real ’ selves. Many of the most successful ‘ romantic leads ’ in the past — Montgomery Clift, Rock Hudson, Dirk Bogarde, Richard Chamberlain, for instance — have been gay. Their performances nevertheless conjured visions of maleness which had women weak at the knees: how do we make sense of this?”
Dyhouse continues:
What we now refer to as the ‘alpha male’ hero, rugged, square-built with a strong jawline, has never held indomitable sway over feminine emotions. Sensitive types, moody aesthetes, and men exuding androgynous charm have featured equally prominently in the cultural landscape of desire. (1-2)
Even early heartthrob’s like Rudolph Valentino’s character of “The Sheik” were #writtenbyawoman - did you know that he comes from a bestselling novel, The Sheik (1919), written by E.M. Hul (that is, my girl Edith Maud. :D  You go, Edith!)
Dyhouse’s purview extends from soulmates to vampires to pop stars and of course to David Bowie as the Goblin King. Not a fandom book per se but well worth checking out if your areas of interest include, say, pirates, Adam Ant, or Lord Byron.

Ewan Mitchell is such a fashion icon and I love it. Yes he may be introverted and we rarely see him but if we see him, he slays.
I also love how he gets bolder with every outfit. Firstly the D&G jacket, then the sheer top, now the choker and the latex gloves
It’s also interesting how exclusive and probably expensive his outfits are if you think about that he is relatively small and unknown (at last right now), like, he has the style of someone like Timothee Chalamet, who is much bigger

Thank you @suchamiracle-does-exist, @electricnormanbates and @faisonsunreve for tagging me to list my 10 favourite movies! 💖 I had to give some thought on them. Here they are finally!
1. Red River (1948) A fresh Western ahead of its time with a young tender cowboy (sweet Montgomery Clift) in the lead, accompanied by one of the best supporting roles in cinema history (by John Ireland), and John Wayne unusually as the bad guy. The movie started my enthusiasm for old Westerns. 🤠
2. The Red Shoes (1948) I fell in love with the way how Powell & Pressburger tell the story between the lines and create their own distinctive atmosphere. Anton Walbrook’s performance blew my mind.
3. Magnum Force (1973) A whole new world of action movies opened up to me with the first Dirty Harry movie, and this sequel was pure diamond.
4. Call Me By Your Name (2017) A love story full of life and human feelings. Timothee Chalamet leads on the audience with his incredible performance.
5. The Fearless Vampire Killers (1967) One of my long time favourite movies that is simultaneously dark, funny, serious, and brilliant. I love the production design, the opening title sequence, and the soundtrack.
6. North by Northwest (1959) I wanted to include at least one Hitchcock movie and to my opinion this is one of his finest ones. Quoting my sister, this movie indeed made me also wonder “why on Earth haven’t I seen this before”!
7. Sebastiane (1976) A movie of men, made for men, with men acting in pieces of cloth and a pair of sandals. Has one of the greatest slow motion scenes ever. 🥵
8. La cage aux folles (1978) I love it how the movie is so honest and doesn’t apologize for being there. Great acting and incredibly funny. I love the texture of the film, the star fog effect, and the late 1970s style. My favourite soundtrack by Ennio Morricone.
9. Tenebre (1982) I can still remember the moment, when I was lying in bed in fever, wanting to watch something new, rented this movie, and saw the iconic camera crane scene with another iconic music. That was definitely something new. The movie introduced me to the world of giallos.
10. Un couteau dans le cœur / Knife + Heart (2018) I had many alternatives for the last choice. This modern French version of old Italian giallos was love at first sight. I like the combination of unconventional characters (all lgbtq+) trying to solve a good old murder mystery. Beautiful cinematography and great soundtrack.
Tagging: @miss-indigodaisies @serenastella @dysfunctional-deity @unwillingadventurer and anyone who wishes to do it!

First Take: Wonka - the unexpected prequel that gets the Dahl style perfect
SYNOPSIS: With dreams of opening a shop in a city renowned for its chocolate, a young and poor Willy Wonka discovers that the industry is run by a cartel of greedy chocolatiers.
The last time I seen the name Paul King attached to a film, it was when a certain Peruvian bear won over the hearts of British cinemagoers (and Nicolas Cage) with his sequel back in 2017 and becoming a mainstay of the BBC Christmas schedule ever since. Fast forward six years, and now the entire creative team who made the iconic Paddington films for StudioCanal have been entrusted with a biggie: the prequel to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Any fears the purists had about this project went away instantly, as this is a worthy spritual successor/prequel to the beloved book.
youtube
King continues to make the style of film he's known for, even with Warner and the Dahl company keeping a close eye on him - wholesome family adventures that have heart, soul, and elements of darkness which feel editorially justified, and much like Roald Dahl's source material, there is plenty of that in the 1 hour 56 minutes, especially as it blends ideas and imagery from the 1971 Mel Stuart/Gene Wilder film and Tim Burton's 2005 reboot, while at the same time creating an origin story that feels truthful to the style of the original book, which King and co-writer Simon Farnaby absolutely nail. Chung-hoon Chung acts as the film's DOP (with Seamus McGarvey beginning the shoot and leaving halfway through) and does an incredible job behind the camera for a musical film of this nature, and speaking of the music, Joby Talbot's score hits all the right places, with his former bandmate - Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy - writing the original songs (and a few new bits for an iconic number which closes the film) to create a musical which could easily do Greatest Showman kinds of numbers if this opening week is anything to go by.
Tumblr media
With the performances, everyone wrote him off when he was cast - but my god, Timothee Chalamet is inspired casting. He can sing, he can dance, he can carry a film, and with his next project being Dune: Part 2, is there anything that Twitter (sorry, X)'s favourite actor can't do? He is ably supported by a frankly immense cast - Olivia Colman, Tom Davis, Keegan-Michael Key, Matt Lucas, Paterson Joseph, Matthew Baynton, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, and the breakout talent Calah Lane rounding it all out. But just as he did the last time he worked with Paul King, one actor is a complete scenestealer- Hugh Grant as an Oompa-Loompa. Sounds so wrong but it is so well justified. A word to the wise though - don't leave until the very end, as there is one little moment he sets up during the credit roll - one which potentially teases more Dahl projects getting the Hollywood treatment.
THE VERDICT
This film's been described as a warm hug by many, and much like King's previous work, Wonka will go down incredibly well with the mainstream audiences. It's a nice and safe PG that caters to all, and on top of that, it packs an emotional punch for fans of the 71 version, the 2005 version or the musical - it is truly Wonka for this generation.
