Recíén terminada de leer En Busca del Tiempo Perdido, un proyecto al que le tenía terror, pero ha sido una experiencia única y vital. Genio, Proust.

Después de terminar la última novela de la serie, he visto la película de Raoul Ruiz en la que está basada, y no me podía creer que algo así pudiera ser llevado al cine, pero sí, Raoul Ruiz consigue comprimir en estos 162 minutos toda la serie, absolutamente esencial en el sentido de que recorre todos los momentos realmente importantes, con elipsis y movimientos de cámara que de alguna forma logran transmitir ese estilo de largas frases de Marcel Proust. Impresionada estoy por lo absolutamente perfecta que es. Claro, quizás el haberme leído las novelas me hace estar mucho más conectada al trabajo de Ruiz, pero así y todo es una obra maestrísima.

Monthly Movie Favourites

After a very weak december, thank god for january. I’ve seen so many good and interesting things this month. Other stuff that I do not mention here because my personal enjoyment wasn’t that high but were still interesting watches are: Mommy, The Brutalist & Nosferatu.

Time Regained (1999)

Chapeau bas for attempting to adapt even just one volume of In the search for lost time. Probably as good of an adaptation as it can get honestly. Obviously it lacks a lot of context and themes, it focuses mostly on the topic of memory and reliving the past, and those parts are really well done. Sounds and images flow into each other, actors are switched around, and all of it translates into a flow of thoughts into a visual format really well. Absolutely not for anyone who hasn’t read the books.

Gamera 2: Attack of Legion (1996)

Another Gamera movie and yet another solid kaiju flick. The action in those is really something else, beautifully drawn animated effects, monster puppets have great detail and mobility, background models are also detailed and have a great deal of depth, so many unique camera positions that make the sequences dynamic and communicate the wcale, and on top of that a whole bunch of them are striking and well composed. Admittedly the human characters are weaker than in the previous entry.

Gozu (2003)

It’s a bit unfair to discredit a film immediately upon finishing it and say that it doesn’t make any sense at all and is pointless, even if it kind of seems like it. This has a very dreamlike surreal quality to it. While watching I was thinking about what it this about really? And don’t think a have a firm final answer but just trying to figure it out and put all the pieces together was a ton of fun. GO WATCH GOZU NOW!!!

A Colt Is My Passport (1967)

This is what you get when mixing together: yakuza crime, spaghetti westerns and noir. An incredibly gripping start and a explosive finish, I’ve seen some people say it drags in the middle but I appreciated the slower pace, it made the other parts stand out that much more. It’s one of those thing you have to see for yourself to believe it really exists.

Vengence Most Fowl (2024)

The second I found out there’ll be a new W&G film I was sooo excited, it’s one of those few things I’m very nostalgic about (Curse of the wererabbit is the first time I remember going to the cinema). I was not disappointed in the slightest. There’s a lot of visual gags and wordplay, and a few laugh out loud moment as well. Feels very cinematic in the way a lot of the shots are framed and lit. This time the comedy/action portions are paired with a little lesson about the usage of new technology. Honestly liked it a lot and the whole time watching I had a smile on my face.

Ugetsu (1953)

Reminiscences about life during wartime translated to japans’ warring states period. More of a slower and thoughtful watch. There’s some great atmospheric spooky sequences as well.

Dc x Dp Prompt #6

“I’m a twin”, Damian said one night. He could feel the narrowed eyes of his family drilling holes on his back in disbelief. Not that he could blame them. Damian had never so much as implied being raised with a companion, much less a sibling.

“I had a brother”. Damian paused to recollect himself. He had not said his brother’s name out loud in over 8 years.

“His name was… Danyal”. Damian hated the way his voice wavered, but he could not help it. Danyal was everything to him, his other half. Their heart beat as one and when one heart stopped beating, the other one died with it. At least until his family put his heart on metaphorical life support without ever realizing.

“Where is he now?” His father asked, voice filled with knowing grief and a hint of betrayal. It had in fact been 6 years since Damian first showed up on his doorstep.

“Up there”. All eyes shifted towards the specific star he was pointing to. “Right before he died, he promised me he’d guide me from the stars. Unfortunately, the stars are not visible in Gotham, so my brother is unable to be of much help unless I leave the city.”

“Your brother is Polaris, the North Star?” Tim questioned warily, most likely in attempts to not offend him. Damian was aware of how stupid it sounded, but Danyal had promised, and his brother never broke his promises.

“Yes. Danyal is with the stars now, just as he always wanted”

abstract (psychopomp) by hozier is definitely one of my most favourite songs ever written, but I can’t listen to it without having a complete emotional meltdown. like. the rawness and the pure humanity in those lyrics. the love and the pain, the choiceless devotion to something fleeting, which you know won’t make it through the night, but to something you feel for, with, nonetheless. something you, as a Human, have no choice but to love.

it’s just simply a lyrical and emotional masterpiece and I’ve been extremely normal about it for more than a year now.

Waiting... Waiting...

So... This was inspired by listening to EPIC (FREAKING LOVE ALL THE ALBUMS, SO GOOD) and by @noxcheshire post of Tim being Odysseus reincarnated and Danny (maybe also reincarnated) being his Penelope (Here) so I had to turn it into a Dead Tired idea.

The song The Challenge is the main one here. (Cause I LOVE that song... along with Would You Fall In Love With Me Again)

So WHAT IF Danny IS the reincarnated Penelope, after becoming the Ghost King Danny's memories of his past life as Penelope returns and remembers how before dying/ or being reincarnated both Penelope and Odysseus promised to find each other in their new lives, no matter who they are, what new form they take, they will find each other.

So Danny/Penelope, just like before waits for their Odysseus to return to them, but also tries to find him in their new life (CW is laughing whenever Danny asks for hints and gets a 'In due time, just wait' answer, ugh Danny wants to smack CW for that)

However just like in his previous life with being in a high position of power, Danny is being pressured to marry/take a spouse (now its not just men/males though so its a huge headache, I head canon Ghosts don't care much for gender preference) mostly by the dang eyeballs that Danny is still trying to find a way to get rid of without upsetting the Infinite Realms delicate (but slowly healing) balance even if Danny wanted nothing more than to punch all of the suitors out.

So Danny decides to play the long game again.

And waits for their Odysseus return.

Danny's wait is over when they suddenly feel the Realms shift one day, as if welcoming someone familiar home, and the same feeling Danny had when he had been Penelope and saw the storm that was sign of Odysseus coming home, Danny decides its time to bring out The Challenge once again. (CW gifted Danny a few things from his past as Penelope as a coronation gift, like Odysseus's bow (now enchanted to be unbreakable), a painting of when he was Penelope, with Telemchus, and Odysseus, and the Marriage Bed/Olive Tree, AND the Palace Odysseus made that Danny takes to being in over being at Pariah's Keep)

Meanwhile

Tim Drake, aka Red Robin, always had strange dreams as a child.

War, Death, Monsters, Gods, Goddesses.

His dreams were more like nightmares, haunting him and he sometimes woke up in cold sweat.

He hated storms. Hated being in the water for to long. Hated how he felt both tense but also at home when around Greek heroes, as if he was afraid to 'disrespect' them (Cassie was the only one he didn't feel that way around, mostly cause they had been somewhat friends before their heroing since their parents knew each other) but also knew how to appease them should he insult them. He also had a strange hatred for the CoO with a burning passion because he felt like they were mocking real Owls.

The worst part of nightmares that always pop up are of what feels like should be his home is being invaded by unwanted guests (they aren't guests), how they are angry over trying to string a bow and shot an arrow through axes, of the terrible terrible things he hear them saying they were going to do to his loved ones (two names that keep getting muted out).

How it ends in bloodshed with echoing of begging, pleading, mercy, and screams.

However in those nightmares at the end. He also finds himself looking for something in them.

Or rather he always found someone waiting for him at the end of the nightmares. Calling him by the wrong name but it sounds just right coming from them.

The dream always ends with the person asking 'How long has it been?' and before he can answer he wakes up.

So yeah Tim has horrifying nightmares/dreams he could never explain.

And the urge to find someone. To go home to them.

It isn't until he and his friends from Young Justice are hit by a spell from Klarion (who may or may not had a visit from a certain chaos encouraging Time Keeper) and sent to a place called the Infinite Realms in the middle of their fight, that Tim is hit hard with déjà vu when he spots a certain Palace in the distance and overhears some of the 'people?' (they glow and float and some don't even look human?! where are they?) talk about how the 'King' has issued a new 'Challenge' for his 'suitors'.

A Challenge involving a bow, and axes.

And Tim, feels like he knows this all too well and needs to do it.

My less popular opinion (and what I believe to be implied by the art in Lost Days) is that rather than waking up in a fully grown body Jason didn’t actually complete his puberty until after his Lazarus pit dip while he was on his murder tour. Imagine you’re tied up in a basement in Berlin getting interrogated by a teenager and his voice is cracking the entire time and if you laugh he’s going to shoot you
