Author’s Note/Table of Contents

Being at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry meant that hearing things out of the ordinary was the norm. But never did I come to think that I'd hear that Filch was rudely woken up by my sister and seen, for the first time by any student, in his pyjamas--and here I thought that Fred and George implanting active Dungbombs in the Gryffindor Common Room would have been the major highlight circulating around the student population.

Well, maybe it was. After all, when I came down for breakfast the next morning, fresh from my visit to the duelling club with Diego just the night before, I caught sight of the Weasley twins being bombarded with questions about their clever prank that drove most of their house mates away from the common area. I'd assume that after this kind of stunt would get them in trouble by Filch, but surprisingly they didn't get caught. Maybe because Clara gave them the blind eye, or took the blame for herself? Either way, the fact that neither of them got detention baffled me slightly.

As I sat down at the Hufflepuff table, reaching out to help myself to a piece of toast, I noticed my dorm mate, Dawn Everett, give me one look from across the table and erupt into giggles.

"Okay, what is it?" I asked her with a slight huff. "Is it the rose in my hair? Yes, one of Clara's friends gave it to me. So what? Wearing flowers in my hair is my norm."

"No, no!" Dawn shook her head. "Well, yes it is--but not in the way you expect. I actually like the way you incorporate flowers in your everyday style, Em. Just...seeing them makes me feel happy."

"It seems like you're about one of the only ones who thinks so," I murmured, shrugging. "You remember how Yvonne from Ravenclaw thought that wearing sunflowers in my hair made me look ridiculous the other day."

"And I think you should do it more often! This is your style, Em, and you've actually become quite the inspiration for some of us." Dawn grinned and glanced at the scarlet rose embedded with my hair tie, securing the braid that Penny helped me fix this morning. "What kind of flower do you think would go well with blonde hair?" she suddenly asked.

"Hmm..." I tapped my chin and tilted my head in thought. Dawn's hair was actually a brilliant blonde, gleaming brilliantly with the early morning sun--on its own, it glowed with a sheen like a torch light. "I'd say daisies? Or lilies? I think any flower works well for your hair, Dawn."

Dawn nodded and flashed a quick smile at me before grabbing a few pieces of toast and shovelling scrambled eggs into her plate.

That was when the doors to the Great Hall burst open, and in strode Filch, wrapping his usual grey jacket tightly around his skinny shuffling figure donned otherwise in baby powder blue cotton. A white sleeping cap hung lopsided and crooked over his head, the pom-pom dangling over his shoulder as he ran.

"What in the--" Dawn took one look at Filch and burst into giggles again. "Looks like this is the first time we've ever seen the Hogwarts caretaker wearing pyjamas! At breakfast, no less!"

Dawn wasn't the only one laughing at the strange phenomenon. All around me, I saw other students from different houses erupting into cackles and wheezes at the sight--most notably, Tonks and Tulip who looked so red in the face they practically looked like they swallowed a bottle of Firewhiskey too many. Up at the staff table, I noticed Professor McGonagall crack a small smile, while Professor Flitwick and Kettleburn exchanged a glance and chuckled.

I suppose this caretaker didn't really get much respect after all.

"Em!"

I turned suddenly at the sound of my sister's voice calling for me, and I waved to her as she approached. "Over here."

"What in the world is happening here?" Clara glanced up at the staff table to see Filch fuming at the teachers, and she immediately turned pale. "Oh Merlin. Em, can I talk to you alone, please?"

Without waiting for an answer, she quickly beckoned me to follow her out of the Great Hall, and so I did, the sounds of roaring laughter dying away.

"I swear there's a good reason I had to call Filch up so early--" Clara began, but I held a hand up.

"I'm not saying you're being unreasonable, Clara, but you notice that you're still wearing pyjamas, right? At least, they look like pyjamas," I pointed out, gesturing to her red and gold lion-print ensemble complete with lion slippers on her feet. I'd assume that was what she'd wear going to bed at Hogwarts, because I've never seen her wear this set of pyjamas at home.

At this, Clara glanced down at her outfit and cringed. "Whoops. Yup, I know, I'm wearing pyjamas too, but this couldn't wait. You heard about the Gryffindor Common Room going up in stink last night, right?"

I nodded. "Yeah. Three of the Gryffindor first-years came by the Hufflepuff Common Room just last night so they could get their desired shower, and I heard the story then. Why?"

"Well, I'm not exactly sure why Fred and George would do that, but eventually when I tracked them down with Charlie, they revealed that they were chasing after someone familiar--though I'd think you'd have a hard time believing me if you hear about who it was."

"Spill the beans, then. Who was it they were after?"

Clara took a deep breath--and then said the name I honestly thought I'd never hear her say for a long time.

"Jacob."

So our brother was spotted on or near Hogwarts grounds. At the sound of that, my jaw practically fell to the floor. "No way," I murmured. "Jacob Pan-Hui Lin in the flesh?"

"So it seemed--the one and only," Clara confirmed. "Though why he would drop by, I wouldn't know. I just asked Filch about it and he said that he got a report from Madam Pince about his presence in the library just last night."

"Probably explained why it closed so early," I said thoughtfully with a nod. "Madam Pince probably didn't want anyone else to worry so much about the potential mess he'd make--let alone the chaos he'd ensue if anyone saw him. Besides the people we know who know him, that is. And that would probably explain why Filch was angry," I added with a laugh.

"Hey. To be fair, it's not like anyone to willingly wake up to satisfy a student's query so early in the morning. I would probably ask them to just go away and wait till I was actually up and ready to answer their question," Clara interjected. "But he was also up all night trying to rid our Common Room of the Dungbomb stink. He even went as far as thinking that I was the one who committed that crime--and I had to cover for the twins."

"A prefect, covering for trouble-making first-years? I'm impressed," I said with another nod. "But let's not try to stray away from the point. What are you going to do about Jacob?"

Clara's jaw tightened as she pondered this, and I swore I saw a storm gather in her eyes as her brows narrowed.

"I'm going to find him, and I think you should stay here."

"What?! But he's my brother too, whether you like it or not!" I argued, stomping my foot. "Clara, aren't we in this together?"

"Of course, Em. But I don't want you to end up in danger the same way--"

"I'm with you, Clara, what could possibly go wrong when I'm with you?"

Clara tensed at this question, muscles freezing rigidly. For a minute, I thought she would reprimand me for being so stubborn--though part of me thought she was being unfair anyway for wanting me to stay at Hogwarts while she pursued all these perilous things--but then she sighed and nodded.

"You're right, Em. I'm sorry," Clara eventually relented. "I just...I don't know. If the circumstances are dangerous--"

"But this could be the only time."

I wasn't a child anymore. I wasn't a baby anymore. Merula could label me as the baby all she wants, but I couldn't care less about my age when I have family to find. Besides, who knew if I would ever get to see Jacob again after this one time?

"Alright. You can come with me. Besides, it's not like the professors could do anything. It's the weekend, after all."

"Exactly. Just let me come."

"Fine."

"Best change into actual clothes first, though."

"Hey!"

But eventually Clara relented, and as she left, I felt like maybe we could truly become close after all.

The search for Jacob wasn't easy, to say the least. He wasn't in the library, as the inquiry with Madam Pince revealed--though the both of us ended up having to clear her shelves up afterwards as a result of the mess Jacob made the night before. It turned out that indeed, he was searching through her shelves to find out about something, but Madam Pince didn't even know what it was he was looking for. It went about as far as her telling him she'd report him to Dumbledore when he'd left.

"Your brother seemed determined to find the books he needed," was all she could tell us.

After lunch, Clara and I went to the Gryffindor Common Room to take the Floo down to Diagon Alley, and the first place Clara immediately made a beeline to as we got out of the fireplace was Flourish and Blotts.

"Madam Villanelle!" she called out, running to the shopkeeper. "Has my brother passed by here looking for books?"

"Clara! And...is this your little sister?" Madam Villanelle asked me, giving me a wary look.

I nodded. "Youngest sister of Jacob Lin here, ma'am."

"Yes, he was just here moments ago!" Madam Villanelle eventually answered my sister's question. "I was about to send you an owl telling you as much. I could tell that you wanted to see him again at the end of last year.”

"And let me guess--he left when you brought me up?" Clara asked.

"Yes. I'm sorry," Madam Villanelle apologized.

"It's fine. Thank you for keeping your word to notify me if Jacob visited Flourish and Blotts."

"Do you know what he came here for?" I asked her then. "Madam Pince, the librarian at Hogwarts, told us he was looking through her shelves but couldn't find what he wanted."

"He was looking for books on the Mahoutokoro School of Magic," Madam Villanelle explained.

"Mahoutokoro? That's where our father went to school!" I exclaimed. "But why would he want to look into that?"

I may have been absolutely clueless and behind, but Clara's eyes automatically widened at the revelation. "Madam Villanelle, remember the wizard in white robes that you told me Mundungus Fletcher fought last year? He was spotted again in Knockturn Alley just recently--and when I told Dumbledore, he thought that the wizard might be a Dark Arts practitioner from Mahoutokoro."

"Dark Arts practitioner? You don't think that there are dark wizards beyond..." I trailed off as I tried to comprehend the impossible. My father wasn't a crook, but then again he never mentioned this part of the protocol to any of us.

"Well, now that I think of it, Mahoutokoro students' robes do turn white when they practice the Dark Arts," Madam Villanelle said thoughtfully. "It's hard to say what your brother's intentions were, though. He just bought every book he could on the subject matter and then left."

And indeed, as I glanced over at one portion of the shelves, there was a huge gap present where books should have been stacked as other books began to keel over in their row. It almost looked like the same scene when my mother's books were pulled out of the shelves all those years ago.

Clara didn't seem fazed at the sight, though. She immediately began to pore over some of the older dustier volumes from the bookshelves, fingers flicking fervently over the pages, and after a while she eventually slammed down the last volume she found.

"Nothing! At least last year Jacob was kind enough to leave a message--now he's left no trace of his visit!" Clara growled. "What was he thinking? He didn't try to see us at Hogwarts, and now he didn't wait for us to get here despite knowing we were on his trail..."

"Do you think he's intentionally doing this?" I asked. "I mean, if he's gone all this way and never thought to see us..."

"He wouldn't. There must be a good reason for whatever it is he's doing," Clara said, shaking her head. "I'm sure whatever it is, it's in our best interests."

"Rest assured, if I see your brother here again I'll be sure to send another owl," Madam Villanelle promised. "To both of you," she added, nodding in my direction.

"Thank you, ma'am. We'll let you get back to work now," I said with a smile.

As the two of us turned to leave, I turned back to Madam Villanelle for a moment. "One more question, Madam Villanelle. Have you reached out to my mother recently about..."

"Your mother? Oh." Madam Villanelle nodded in recollection. "Renee Lin, right? it was always a joy to see her published books on these shelves. I remember wanting to take one off the shelves myself to read." She chuckled and shook her head. "No, your sister warned me not to tell her anything about his return. I did consider putting her books back on the shelves, but who knows what controversies could spark among the critics who gave her negative reviews?"

"I just...I was hoping my mom would continue to pursue her career as a writer," I simply mumbled. "You know, despite all that's happened."

"I can drop a word with her, let her know that her youngest daughter is thinking the best for her," Madam Villanelle offered. "But no worries. Your reasons for coming here would be safe with me."

"Thank you." I smiled and offered her a hand. "I'm Emily, by the way."

"Emily. I'll keep you in mind," Madam Villanelle said, shaking my hand. "But you better catch up with your sister. I don't think she's prepared to return to Hogwarts without knowing where your brother is."

I nodded and waved in farewell as I exited the shop, turning to find that, indeed, Clara had already left the shop. As I turned, I thought I saw the heel of her boot disappearing down Knockturn Alley.

So much for her trying to protect me. Neither of our parents wanted us to even travel down Knockturn Alley, and last summer when we came here to get my supplies they made these restrictions very clear. Yet if Clara was already going down that alley...

I quickly ran after her, not even knowing what consequences either of us would face in the alley forbidden by our parents.

I am a huge sucker about brotps! When I was developing Dahlia, I really wanted to use the inspiration from The Bold Type which is one of my FAVORITE shows in the entire world. I love the dynamic of Kat, Sutton & Jane in the television show, so I wanted to bring it into the roleplay. I am so willing to provide information for you all in terms/information about Dahlia’s backstory (there’s a lot) and currently isn’t a link to her biography on the main, but I will be willing to share my Google Drive about the character. It was long so big warning!

Dahlia started off her Yale Undergraduate in the Fall 2008. Her Freshman year of University was an undecided year. To give you a little bit of insight, the girl spent a couple of months (on/off) crying about her life back home in Catalina Island and how much she misses her friends + family. Overall, she is very family orientated. This was also around the time when her twin sister, Magnolia, gave birth to her son, Milo Park. So, not only was Dahlia feeling as if she was missing this important experience to her sister’s future but every part of her was doubting that she should even BE at Yale University. The truth is, she had every right to be there because the girl is smart and made it known throughout the years of her growing up and her devotion to her education. As well, while Dahlia has traveled to Crema, Italy, before to spend time with her Grandmother with Magnolia. This is the first time Dahlia has ever been away from her whole family and in a city this big. Especially considering, Catalina Island’s population has been very minimal for her entire life.

I had imagined these girls all lived in the same dorm and on the same floor. Whereas Dahlia every right caused herself to be locked up in her room, calling back home long distance and sobbing into the telephone of her father’s and sister, maybe the girls knew about Dahlia and her struggle to adjust to the atmosphere of this new life/chapter she is starting for herself. Perhaps, both of the girls (the Kat & Sutton’s of the trio) knew about Dahlia (who is the Jane of the trio), had classes with her, honestly love her presence around them, but saw that she was suffering. So one evening, they entered into her room and insisted on Dahlia coming with them. Not only was that the start of their dynamic trio, but also it was the start of Dahlia’s growth and understanding that she belongs here. Even if she missed her family and friends back home, it doesn’t mean she’s selfish for enjoying her life and new chapter because she worked hard for it.

Over the years, these girls did EVERYTHING together. Some part of me wants to HC that they have matching tattoos together. Or even went on trips with Dahlia (&Magnolia) to Crema, Italy, which Dahlia showed the girls where she worked throughout the years and as well, the fluent Italian that she knows. These girls know everything about each other. Inside and out. All of their past. All of the secrets they didn’t want to share with the entire world. They are each other’s biggest supporters through and through. It’s why they work so well together, even with all of them being complete and polar opposites in the first place.

Yet, during age 25, that would change the girls carefree lives briefly. I did imagine all of them were still at Yale, perhaps all doing a Master program (again, their majors are up to the player!). One of the girls, which can be decided on who that will be, had a class and learned about the BRCA Gene. I provided a link for you to read over the information and the purpose for the narrative because it’s a huge part (I won’t deny I took this from TBT storyline but I loved it because it’s unlike I’ve seen before). Frightened, anxious, genuinely worried, all of them decided to get tested on a Friday afternoon, spending their entire weekend being carefree, only for Dahlia to receive a phone call on Monday morning to come by the Clinic later in the afternoon. It was then and there, where Dahlia found out she has the BRCA Gene mutation from her mother, who isn’t in the picture, Mahalia. Not only was it towards till the end of their Masters program, but it ultimately shape shifted their entire world. It was a big change for Dahlia. It made her refute back to the point of doubting herself. It would be a heavy phone call to her family back in Catalina about her mutation. It would be a kick start in Dahlia having to think about her future. In which, she decided to start to freeze her eggs after she graduated from the Masters program, immediately packing her bags and heading back home to Catalina, to start the process.

After she started the freezing of eggs, she packed up her belongings and went on a trip all over the world because in Dahlia’s mind, this information and news shook her entire world and core. She traveled everywhere. Anywhere. As long as her could go, enjoy the world and make the memories, then she would do it. It made her plan for the worst case scenario. It made her have to realize these other outcomes about this dream future she has. It got very heavy on her. It took her a while to adjust to the reality of constant doctor appointments to make sure everything was okay. The reason why the girls came to Catalina can be for your own reason! Although, it is canon in Dahlia’s storyline that she returned back to her isle after receiving a phone call from her family about one of her father developing early signs of Dementia. Instantly, that’s what brought her home. I did imagine the girls have been kept up in her life when she was traveling. She was no stranger to friends & family for that matter. So I had an idea she messaged them about coming back to Catalina and even more startling news of her father’s illness. Perhaps, that was the reason why all of the girls moved there was to support their girl even more? Maybe even on their trips back with Dahlia - both of them fell in love with the isle that she came from and they decided to move there. I’m totally down for everything!

Right now, Dahlia will be slowly but surely starting the IVF process. She has taken the last 5 years of her life to enjoy things. Now, she’s ready to start the process of having children. I wanted to give everyone a run down on this connection because I am genuinely excited to have this type of dynamic and storyline in the group. I hope it paints an ideal picture of what I am looking for/what I have thought of. I am totally here to listen to all of your ideas and suggestions as well! I want us to all feel and cause this trio to grow forward together.

The last chapter in SF

Jan 25th, 2020.

An Introduction.

In 2017, Jess was introduced to our quiet, oversized, and mainstream lives... Little did we know, that everything was about to change. The winds swirled overhead as she landed and within a couple weeks our loud, mini, hippie-witch-grandma-babe became ingrained in our lives!

Coming in hot with a list of must-see, -try, -listen, -taste, -climb items for SF, Jess managed to keep us busy trying new things and living our best fun-sized life.

In honor of one chapter coming to a close (and another very exciting one just beginning!!), we want to take a look back at some of the beautiful moments you’ve helped us create! Thank you for being a part of our lives in San Francisco, and we are so excited and proud of you for making big moves across the seas in New Zealand! Don’t forget us and please come back to re-visit your San Francisco community soon 😻

Let’s take a walk down memory lane back to 2017...

Enter 2017… when some of us all met Jess Tilles for first time. Something we may be too old to do but in our early 20s we were able to stick through 9 hours of drinking. Santa Con was the day into the night we were all obliterated… but Santas and mistletoe and FUN! We all look very youthful, oh what a few years in SF has done to our age. It was also one of the first and last times we all decided to go out in the Marina, and then proceed to eat Italian Homemade food. The beginning of an era!

Meanwhile at work... Jess quickly becomes a driving force of work parties with Holmes (and Eva and Jess discover they are both proponents of Bell sleeves). Of course Jess=where the party @ after having met most of the team at a highly questionable night tearing up the Castro prior Olga’s birthday.

Celebrating big moves to the bay, Jess, Shiri, and Leeza united in the gorgeous SF winter on Hattie St Balcony (a local’s hidden gem). It was then that Leeza and Jess instantly realized they were meant to meet and pursue all the best indie-folk-hippie music together. The rest of the concert saga is history!

Jess and Eva jamtfo to Penguin Prison at at their favorite SF venue, The Independent on Eva’s bday. They groove from the front row where Jess has zero obstacles blocking her line of site. Eva gets to hold the gee-tar.

August 2018

For many of us, it was our very first overnight backpacking trip that hot summer weekend in July. Leeza had on the heaviest pack and powered ahead of the group (per usual), while the rest of us fumbled behind. We all kept enthusiasm high and it was a glorious moment when we 1) dipped into the freezing cold water at the end of day one and 2) when we finally took our packs, shoes and socks off at the end of the hike, and we all agreed that we would not do that trail again if someone paid us a million fat ones. Such a memorable trip- it was a great shared bonding experience for us to be out exploring in nature, and struggling together but ultimately powering through. Caroline was peeing every 20 minutes of the hike as usual, Leron was making interesting jokes and Shiri and Jess kept our spirits high!

Jess has her first grown woman trip to LA with Eva. They stay in Sunset Junction (Micheltorena stairs pictured) and have a romantic werk wife stay at the legendary Casa Crawford Airbnb, where their room doesn’t lock and they share a bathroom with the elderly spooky owner. Highlights include swan boating on Echo Park Lake, yoga at Equinox, eating at Mh Zh and Sqirl, unwinding at Wi Spa, crashing a mansion party in the Hollywood hills, and celebrating Lauren’s 30th birthday. Jess also very much enjoys catching up with a friend in Venice Beach.

In spring 2018, Jess made moves in the city to make friends and become ~sporty~ with Shiri in the Play Recess league. Striking the perfect balance between minimal coordination and slap-cup, we learned to destroy the competition in what really counts! Culminating in an ultimate scavenger hunt debacle, Spinelli led the group to victory! (Not actually sure if we completed the scavenger, but the memories we do have were definitely winners :) ).

In the spooky month of October 2019, the Fulton Fam got together to throw our first rager - an extravagant Addams family party. Thanks to the creative inspiration of the group, we were able to pull off some spooky vibes, including spider webs, grey hair, ridiculous mustaches, and more.

Late 2018 marked the beginning of the Fulton house era- too many nights sitting around watching Fort Night, debating Zinc in double-blind tests, and hundreds more conversations that none of us can remember… We will never forget the eclectic energy Jess brought into the Fulton house. The large batches of pasta & pesto she cooked and the lotions & soaps she brewed up. Brew hahah. As the first alumnus of the Fulton house, Jess has since ventured out to #adult in her 2 bedroom apartment in Nob Hill.

Before Jess left us, we had one last BirthRight hoorah with Jacob’s new friends. There was a peculiar guy making brisket in our oven, and handing samples around like a Costco on a Saturday afternoon. Shiri infamously used her photoshop skills to crop the beloved Leron Gil into the house party he missed. Good times!

December 2018

How could we forget the numerous ski trips in 2019 with Jess? There were so many weekends bopping around down the slopes in Heavenly, Kirkwood and North Star. On this specific photographed trip, Jess and Caroline celebrated their birthdays with a weekend getaway to Northstar. Too much Secret Hitler was played. Things got wild. Other board games were forced upon us (lol). But looking back it was a great time hanging with friends, drinking champagne on the mountain and blasting some groovy tunes down the mountain.

Over the holidays, Chinese food is a tradition… a very delicious meal at Koi Palace! While living in Fulton, there was a 2 month hiatus where just Jess, Caroline and Jacob occupied the house. Some like to call that period of time “the cleanest time of Fulton”, others call bullshit. The three bonded over diverging political opinions, bitching about who never cleaned their dishes and doing korean face masks.

One of the best Holmes site visits ever!!

Jess and Eva drive up North for a wine country getaway they won a while back at a silent auction. En route they plow through La Croix cans, have a rad lunch in Sebastopol and dip their feet in the picturesque Russian River. Early evening, they taste and tour facilities at Moshin Vineyards in Forestville (shout outs to that delightfully dry pinot noir rosé) before stargazing (ft. skunk!) and cozying up in a cabin suite with the movie Sideways. The next day, they have a beautiful morning walk by the vineyards. By way of Jess’ parents, they land in Ronald McDonald’s home for a private tasting. Jess learns she loves fruit-forward wines!

The second infamous backpacking trip! **GIRLS TRIP**!!!! The time we thought it’d be smart to not get camping food and cook kraft mac and cheese with no microwave. What it came out to be was a big bowl of cheese goop, with Ella, Anna, Olaf and unicorn characters drowned in there. A big SHOUTOUT to Marie for pulling through with the fancy face creams and sharing with the group, us talking about waxing *ahem* body parts and again, Leeza leading the charge with Foxy! At night, we laid out on the benches and stared up at the stars - the night was so clear! We couldn’t stop laughing over things I can no longer remember… except about discovering the world was indeed not flat. Once again, Caroline likely peed 20 times total, and was coughing and heaving (sorry for being sick!) 😅

Jess and Eva get weird in Portland! Where they sip rooftop beers, frolick in the Nike HQ ( a mass timber wonderland), meet Big Foot and Krampus, procure free passes to a saucy community event, dance to 80s music at a goth bar/visit crusty dive bars, have a prime strawberry cough (and beanie) experience @ Electric Lettuce, savor prime Bamboo sushi, and Jess gets a cute ass tragus piercing. Throughout the trip Jess wears a lot of black to Eva’s delight #moody #angsty. On their walks to the Portland office, Jess appreciates the changing fall leaves and residential neighborhoods, feeling reminded of home on the East Coast.

OK - San Francisco was filled with challenges… and Tough Mudder was one of them! Although we found out that at the end of the race - you would be electrocuted - we persisted. We - as a team - got through to the finish line. So proud of everyone for completing the race! Although Caroline was the only one who copped out of electric shock. The number of times we dunked into mud baths and climbed 10 ft walls…

Jess’s favorite time of the year and a visit from Tariq! One of the best days in December was unexpected. It started out with a simple brunch plan but ended in a full day of activities!! New spot on polk was where Jess and Maries’ friendship began and continued to blossom!

After having an amazing meal (great eggs benedict) and hours of catching up we decided to walk back to our houses together (since we are neighbors!!). Jess was excited to see Marie’s new couch (that was 50% off hehe) and decided to come over. Kap, Jess and Marie did a long (super difficult) puzzle (connected a few pieces) and watched netflix. We order Thai food (Kap ordered us cookies) and we relaxed all day. It was a special day where the three of us reminisced about San Francisco and all of our time here. It was a day no one wanted to end!!

On one of Jess’s final few Tahoe ski weekends, she SENT IT down a black diamond on her first weekend back of the season. Legends of Tomorrow - ‘Nip/Stuck’ Review

"Gary Green is all the man we need."

This episode title got about 1000% funnier after the reveal of Gary's evil nipple last week.

I'm just saying.

Technically, this week's title only represents two out of the three plotlines. What we really get is more like Nip/Stuck/Sunday in the park with Neron, but it's hard to complain too much about it since it's both a solid joke and a pleasant reminder that the show Nip/Tuck was a thing once. Plus, and it hurts me to say this, the Constantine stuff was really the weakest of the three plotlines.

That's probably a good place to start. At the end of the last episode, Neron-in-Ray's-Body teleported away from the Waverider taking with him Gary and Constantine. I actually missed, at the time, that John had been taken with them, and so I was a little confused when we opened in the ice age with Him and Neron and no Gary in sight. That said, they cleared up pretty quickly that Gary had been sent to the Time Bureau, although why Neron would bother to do this was a little unclear at first.

Gradually, however, one thing became very clear. Neron is probably the most competent villain that the Legends have ever encountered, and his 'to do' list is shockingly task oriented. What Neron wants, ultimately, is his lady friend Tabitha to be released from Hell. Once she's out there's probably some idea about conquest and domination, but for now all we really see is Neron being laser focused on getting her out. Seriously though, how nice would it be if step two was just him and Tabitha taking a nice vacation in the wine country and getting a couples massage?

In any case, Neron has clearly taken a moment to troubleshoot his plan, because he's very efficiently begun from 'the Legends will try to stop me', reasoned that forcing John to use his magic over a very large trap will be a nice way to get them out of the way, foresaw the hitch of the Legends just calling the Time Bureau to rescue them and headed that off by getting Gary on his side and having him make the Time Bureau unavailable to help.

The Swan dive into Hell was a nice resolution to a theme that's been bubbling away under John's plotline. He's repeated many times that he's a complete bastard, that he's a monster, that he's a horrible person. Because believing that about himself is kind of Constantine's character brief. But the emotional climax of that theme was probably the easiest thing to miss in this episode. We're told that the Puca only mirrors those that are around it. If you're angry, it's angry, If you're violent, it's violent. And when it's alone with John, it's kind. Judging from the look on John's face when the Puca heals his forehead, he didn't miss the significance. That's what brought about the change of heart that led him, the first one to board the 'Ray's gone and never coming back' train, to jumping into Hell to bring back his friend.

That's just a really solid emotional through line.

Meanwhile, The Waverider is trapped below 500-odd feet of snow during the ice age. Sara immediately makes the logically correct choice to turn power down to minimum so that they can conserve it as long as possible while they slowly freeze to death while bickering. How nice was it, by the way, that they were all wearing spare Captain Cold jackets because Snart left a supply of spares. That was just adorable.

It's easy to give Ray short shrift as compared to his team-mates. He's the sunny, optimistic one, and that's a character type that it's just way too easy to make fun of these days. Character's like Mick and Sara, with all their gruff cynicism are just more fun to watch, we tend to think. How wonderful is it, then, that the secret to the Waverider's escape was to find and embrace their inner Ray, turning the heat back up to full and determining to enjoy each other for as long as they can, because even if all they have is each others company, that is not nothing. The answers in the Cards to Save the Timeline game were a little on the nose, but I don't care. The Legends were saved by the magic power of optimism and friendship, and that's just fine by me. We need more of that. Also, please mass produce that card game, I want to play it.

Which leaves us with Gary and his hypno-nipple, Stepford Wife-ing his way through the Time Bureau and interrupting Nora's new hire paperwork. This is basically your by the numbers 'all of your friends are being turned against you, one by one' template, although it's very well done. It also must have been nice for Adam Tsekhman to get to shake things up in his portrayal of Gary, although I do wonder if he was told early on just how much of the plotline this year was going to be driven by his nipple. I feel like that would be a weird burden to carry. It's thematically pleasant that this plotline too was solved by remembering that you aren't alone. In this case, Mona and Wolfie. It would appear that Wolfie is essentially a separate personality from Mona, and can take control of just portions of her body to communicate, which is interesting.

So, three distinctly separate plot threads, all of which are really just different parts of the same plot thread, all of which essentially boil down to the idea that 'friendship is good'.

This episode just works really, really well.

Everybody remember where we parked:

The first stop for both Neron and the Waverider is the Donner Pass in the Ice Age. This is little less precise than they usually get, as there were at least five ice ages, and they tended to last for a little while. Things get a little more specific when the Legends trace John's magic and realize that he's 1.3 million years in the past, but that still seems like a suspiciously round number.

But let's be honest, they really only set things there for the sake of a few cannibalism jokes.

Next, Neron takes john to a 'Celtic village' in 55 BCE. That's 'Before Current Era', which is an alternative phrasing to B.C. although they both refer to more or less the same thing. It's a little odd that a show that's already confirmed the existence of Christ would use the more neutral term.

3-Boil water in a small pan/Kadai and place paper cups into the water. You can fill up all 12 cups depending on how much you need, I filled 6 cups with batter to make petite cakes which are just good enough for 1 piece.

4-Leave it to boil for 2 mins and then remove the cups from water with a fork, and place them upside down on a kitchen towel to absorb any excess water from it. (Do not worry if you see few bubbles as they will settle down while chilling)

5-Pour about 2tsp of batter into each cup. Place in the center of a preheated oven at 180 degrees Celcius and bake it for 8mins. You can check whether it's done or not using the toothpick method by inserting it through the top layer and if nothing sticks onto it then it's done.

6-Remove from oven and cool completely before topping with soft cheese mixture.

7-For topping mix together creams cheese and butter till creamy. Add in powdered sugar to taste along with vanilla essence, stir well till everything is combined.

8-Spread the topping evenly over each tartlet using a spatula. (You can refrigerate it for 10 minutes prior to serving) And enjoy with a cup of tea!

Tips

1. After placing the cups on the water make sure you remove them within 2 mins even if they are not done otherwise they will turn soggy since there will be more moisture inside cups which will result in a mushy texture.

If you see little bubbles on the top layer then don't worry they settle down once chilled and will not affect the texture of your cake.

2 . Other than tea, this cake goes very well with coffee as well!

3 . Adjust the time while baking depending on your oven. Any variation in timing will not make any impact on the texture of the cake.

4 . Always use convection mode if you have one and reduce the temperature by 5-8 degrees Celcius as it will bake faster than regular oven mode!

This recipe is meant to be eaten as it is and there isn't any way to reduce the sugar content without having a considerable impact on taste. If you prefer it less sweet then decrease the sugar content by 1/4 while making the batter.

Yes, use almonds and raisins or any chopped dried fruit of your choice!

Conclusion:

This cake is really easy to make, has no step-wise directions in my recipe. It is a one-shot deal where you just have to dump everything into the bowl and mix them up!

Add tea for an incredibly delicious dessert that you will be proud of for sure! The texture of this cake is so smooth with a little crispy crust and the tea flavor is so yummy!

The smell of fresh vanilla tea moi seeped into the hot chocolate batter while baking. I started feeling teas-ed out after an hour, so gently took each Tartlet out one by one.

And now, to finish the Rebel Hearts Infodumping. This will focus on the main villains of Rebel Hearts: Yharim, Draedon, and Yharon.

Name: Yharim

Age: ??? (Likely somewhere between 20 and 35)

Gender: Male (No pronouns, only wants to be called master or your new ruler)

Sexuality: Straight

Backstory: Born in a volcanic village, the elders of this area could see the darkness in his heart and sacrificed him as a way to appease the Goddess of the Sun, Providence. Yharim was dunked in lava, resulting in most of his limbs melting off and him losing an eye, being replaced by a nasty and terrifying burn scar covering roughly half his face. Noxus unknowingly revives him after seeing him be wronged but wants to give him a chance to become a hero. This proves to be a HUGE mistake. To get revenge, Yharim destroys his own villages, killing his own parents and his older brother, Ignalius, in the process and stealing his younger brother's (Yhagrim's) dragon egg, which would later hatch to become Yharon. Upon destroying his village and essentially killing every resident not named Yhagrim, whom he just told to run away and never return, he trained in dark magic despite never being a prophet of Noxus. He also trained in melee combat, developing his own, albeit somewhat mediocre, sword. Upon Yharon hatching and pledging supreme loyalty to him, he goes full megalomaniac, kidnapping several people to brainwash into becoming foot soldiers while manipulating others, namely Cal and Dev, to become his slaves via manipulation, brainwashing, and torture. He also kidnaps and freezes Permafrost into Cryogen. He then quickly conquered most of the land, badly injuring Providence and burning Amidias' ocean, killing most sea life not named crabs. Upon declaring himself the new ruler, many resistances sprung up to try, and fail to stop him. Seeing this, he sent Cal, Dev, and Yharon on multiple missions to destroy certain villages, most notably Mariko and Akira's villages. Tasks like this and kidnapping Mariko so he could be tortured are what drove Cal, her brothers, and Dev away from him. Now faced with the most powerful force yet, should he get his way, Yharim will have these "traitors" decapitated by his own sword.

Upon hatching from the egg Yharim stole from Yhagrim, Yharon swore complete and utter loyalty to Yharim, never betraying him or arguing against his judgement. With his wings, he can fly at speeds of up to 120mph and his flames can reach heat levels similar to Providence and Cal's flames. He can also make the air grow warmer around a large area, usually a radius of up to 200 meters. Because of his immortality, he can never truly die, only respawning as an egg and swearing loyalty to whoever finds him. However, when on Yharim's team, he has never been gravely injured. He is the one behind the burning of Akira's village and also tried to kill Yhagrim, but couldn't locate him. Despite this, Yharim always compliments him and treats him like a loyal pet due to his undying loyalty and dedication.

When Yharim rose to power, seeking power for himself and wanting to become the next tyrant, Draedon went on a killing spree, obliterating his entire city by himself to prove himself worthy to the tyrant with full intent to betray him if Yharim was seen as weak. However, he hasn't seen this yet and fully believes he will remain loyal to Yharim till his final breath. He is responsible for creating the brainwash juices that manipulated Cal, her brothers, and Dev for so long. He also experimented on himself to become fully robotic, massively increasing his speed, defense, and attack.

Family First

Summary: Emily Tozier knew one thing. Her father loved her as if she was his own. Yet, secrets and lies kept for years will push her into finding out the truth about her real father and his connection with Richie.

Chapter 1: Welcome To The Tozier Residents

“Good morning Los Angeles! Another sunny day in beautiful So Cal. I am your hostess with the mostess Richie Tozier.”

“Ugh.” The groggy sound came from under the covers of the Tozier home. Up high beyond the trees woke a tired young teen desperately wanting five more minutes. She cracked one eye open at the alarm clock on her bedside table. The time six thirty was displayed on the clock, blinking rapidly. She closed her eyes and covered her head from the glaring sunlight bouncing off the apartment walls.

“Now before I get started with the morning line up I would like to tell my loving daughter to get her lazy but up before she is late to school. You know I love you sweetie but Mondays are not sick days.” The girl let out a louder groan before throwing the blankets from her body.

“Okay, okay. You aren’t even here Jeeze.”

“Love you Emily darling.” Emily could hear her father’s kissing noise over the radio clock. He always knew when to wake her up. Soon after the kissing noises faded, music began to play over the radio. Emily lightly tapped her cheeks before getting up. She made her way through the brightly lit bedroom into the bathroom. Before entering she picked up a photo of her and Richie. The picture captured the moment of her third birthday. Many people were around her but her father was the most important. He always kept her close and others far away.

Once in the bathroom Emily began combing her long brown hair, a striking difference compared to her father’s jet-black hair. To be quite honest, everything about her was different than her father. She was well mannered while he was all over the place. She had straight long hair whole his was curly a challenge to comb. Emily found that she would control what her father ate due to his high cholesterol. Regardless of their difference, they were closer than most. Her father was her rock, the only family she had ever known.

“Hello?” The sudden sound made Emily jump. Who the fuck was in her house? She ran to the bat by her bed and slowly walked out of her room. She took every step with caution. The apartment was over fifteen thousand square feet so there were many places a person could be hiding. Emily looked around the corner and saw nothing, she slowly entered the kitchen. The hardwood floors felt freezing under her bare feet. She looked around to see no one behind the marble counter or by the table. A sudden bang made her turn with her bat held high. A girlish scream held her back from swinging.

“Don’t hit me this nose is new.” Emily lowered her bat when she realized it was a blonde young woman. She looked to be in her late twenties, way too young for her father’s age. She was wearing a wrinkled party dress that smelled like alcohol. Emily rolled her eyes before setting the bat on the counter.

“I won’t hit you. I just didn’t realize someone else was here.” An awkward silence grew as the young blonde realized who Emily was.

“You must be Richie’s daughter.” Emily rolled her eyes. This statement was nothing new to her.

“In the flesh.” Emily continued with her day acting like the woman wasn’t there. She began to make herself some breakfast. She threw some eggs in a pan and waited until they cooked. The silence between the two girls was not new to Emily but she could tell the blonde was uncomfortable.

“So, you are in high school right?” Oh, she must really like him. Not many girls try to get to know Emily after a one-night stand. Emily kind of felt bad for the girl. Richie was not the committed type.

“Yeah, junior.” Emily finished cooking the eggs and began to prepare the toast. She placed two pieces of bread in the toaster before opening the cupboard to retrieve plates.

“That is a big year. Do you have a college in mind?” This girl was really trying. Most stopped after the are you in high school question. While this was not Emily’s first rodeo she never could hate the girls her dad brought home. Most of the time they were decent enough, she only kicked out the ones who were rude. Those usually left on their own though.

“Not yet, dads going to take me touring during spring break.” Emily separated the eggs onto two plates. Once the toast was done she wiped them with some low-calorie butter and gave it to the girl.

“Thanks. That is very sweet.” The girl smiled at Emily as if she had done something right.

“As much as I would like to chat I have school to get ready for. You can stay here till you finish. Do not leave the plate on the table rinse it and lay it out to dry. I am going to eat in there.” Emily pointed to her room before making eye contact with the woman. The blonde nodded in response. Emily began walking to her room but was stopped when the hopeless romantic spoke again.

“Do you think your dad is going to call me later?” Emily could tell the girl was hopefully.

“Where did you meet him?”

“The bar.”

“No.” Emily didn’t even look back to see the woman’s crushed expression. Instead, she walked into her room and continued to get ready.

An hour had passed and the one-night blonde show was gone. She did as she was told, the plate laid next to the sink drying. Emily gathered her keys and backpack she paused to send a text to her father.

“Next time warn me before you bring home Barbie.” She watched as the dots appeared at the bottom of the screen before Richie’s words appeared.

“Sorry kiddo, I’ll make sure to do that next time. ; D” Emily let out an amused scoff before putting her phone in her pocket. She made her way to the door but stopped to look at the dark wooden doors at the opposite side of the room. Richie’s office stood behind them. Since she was born she was not allowed to go into that room. For years and years, she dreamed about what could be in that room. A national treasure? A dead body? Maybe the dog she always wanted? Who knows. Richie wasn’t a scholar, he didn’t need an office anyways. Yet, every night he would close himself off from her to be in that room. Her phone ringing halted her thoughts. She looked down at the phone before answering.

“Okay, okay I’m coming jeeze.”

“Did you listen to your dad this morning?” Emily looked up at her best friend Kelly from across the lunch table. She had known Kelly since kindergarten. They traded juice boxes once and were tied at the hip since.

“How could you not? He was annoying the fuck out of Johnny Depp. It was great.” Alexa, the girl next to Kelly was another story. They became friends with her in the beginning of high school and Emily didn’t see their friendship continuing after. She had the hots for her dad which was creepy considering he was fifty-seven. “Like his comment making fun of why we need a Pirates of The Caribbean eight was spot on.” Emily rolled her eyes before commenting.

“Okay, chill with your obsession with my dad please.” Emily had told Alexa how much it bothered her but the girl never stopped.

“Oh come on how could I not? He is becoming a silver fox. It’s not like he is your real dad anyways.” Emily really wish she could stuff her salad in Alexa’s face. Kelly looked at Emily with concern. Everyone knew she was adopted. It was obvious she looked nothing like him but Richie loved her like she was his own.

“Yeah well it doesn’t matter. He is my dad and he is all I need.” Emily felt her heart sink at the lie she just told. If she was being honest she wanted to know about her real father and mother. Richie never told her about them, all he would say is that she wasn’t abandoned as a baby. He adopted her right away. Yet, how could she not be? When she was thirteen she saved up her money to do an ancestor test. She spent one hundred dollars to only learn she originated from England. It was not one of Emily’s best moments.

“Are you still looking for him, you know your real dad?” Kelly touched Emily’s hand to comfort her. Kelly knew what she was asking was hard. There were many nights where Kelly help Emily as she cried about who she was and where she came from. Emily smiled at Kelly before taking a stab at her salad.

“I am planning to ask my dad about it again. It is getting close to that time of the year.” Emily first noticed the pattern when she was five. There was a week-long period where Richie was at his worst. He would begin to smoke cigarettes and lock himself up in the office for hours at a time. He always made sure Emily was cared for. Nannies would be more frequent until she was old enough to take care of herself. However, she saw how in pain her father was and it killed her to never know the reason. It was as if someone died every year and he was grieving. They would be having dinner and then suddenly his eyes would cloud over. Richie would begin to cry and excuse himself from the table. He would lock himself in the office, he would lock himself away from Emily.

The rest of the school day past in a blur. Emily walked into the apartment smelling a one of her favorite meal. Chinese takeout. She looked at the dinner table to see a collection of take out boxes

“Will you forgive me?” She looked up to see Richie Tozier with his arms open. For an older man, he was fit. Many say he mastered the art of aging through botox or secret Asian face masks but he never used those things. When he smiled you could see the lines appear under his eyes and mouth. His hair was still black but would begin to gray here and there until he got it dyed. He was not the most attractive man but his personality made him a magnet towards women.

“You could have texted me before you left.”

“I know, I know I was running late. Those four am shifts can be killer. But..” Her father bent down on his knees in a dramatic display. He held Emily’s hand before wiping away fake tears. “Will you forgive me light of my life? The peanut butter to my jelly, the moon to my sun.”

“That depends.” Emily lowered her gaze towards the food on the table. “Did you get eggrolls.”

“I got all the eggrolls.”

“Okay, I forgive you.” Richie jumped up in celebration before giving Emily a big hug.”

“I love you so much Eds!” Emily felt his arms grow tighter around her. She almost couldn’t breathe.

“Don’t call me that.” Emily whined but felt her father stiffen. He moved away from Emily and placed his hands on her shoulders. She never understood why he gave her the middle name Ed. It sounded so stupid, Emily Ed Tozier. When she told him to stop it would always end the same way. She could see the pain in his eyes before he turned away. She knew it wasn’t meant for her, it was something he knew that she didn’t.

“Let us begin the feast!”

They continued the rest of the night eating and watching reality television. It was a nightly ritual of where they judged the lives they pretty much live. Her father did a morning radio show that woke her up every morning. When he isn’t annoying people over the radio, he is annoying them on talk shows and comedy skits. He may not be as rich as some of the reality stars but Richie and Emily were more than comfortable. They had lived in the apartment for ten years now. Many people asked Emily why her father never bought a house. She would always shrug and say he wasn’t a fan. Yet, she never really knew the whole reason. Emily never met her grandparents. They lived in California but seemed to only want Richie when he had money to give. Her father said it was best she never met them since they were anything but friendly. She never questioned him.

“Hey, dad.”

“Yeah?”

“Can I ask you something?”

“Shoot my darling.” Emily hated his little nicknames almost as much as when he called her Eds. She didn’t react this time because an overwhelming sense of nerves took priority.

“I was wondering, now that I am older. If I could learn more about my first parents.” She made sure not to say the words real. The room went silent other than the bickering of the reality stars. They were fighting over some shoe deal that the other sibling stole.

“Why do you want to know?”

“I just, want to see what they are like. I’m just curious.” The girls were screaming on the television now. The camera angles focus on their movements.

“I thought we discussed this before.” His voice lost the cheerful tone it use to have. Emily felt her breathing hitch.

“Not really. You always change the subject and I really think we should talk about this seriously.” The reality stars were fighting on the floor now grabbing each other’s hair.

“Are you not happy with your life?”

“Of course I am Dad. I just want to know who my parents were. Even a picture would help.” Emily could tell that help was not the right word. Richie got up and placed the plate in the sink loudly. It caused the plate to break.

“Shit.” He muttered to himself as he began to gather the pieces and throw it in the trash.

“Dad please.”

“No, Emily we are not talking about this right now.”

“Then when? Give me a time. Give me a date.” She watched as her father began putting the food away. She realized he would shut her out soon.

“I can’t give you a date okay. Those people do not matter. I raised you and if you cannot accept that then we have a bigger problem to deal with.” He began to raise the sleeves of his long sleeve tee. Emily watched the cotton sleeve lift to reveal the tattoo that he tried to hide from her. His forearm displayed dark black letters spelling out loser. They were not neat, it was as if a child wrote it. The s had a sharp red v trying to change the word to lover. It was a tattoo that Emily had seen before but not fully. It would slip if he was doing the dishes or rubbing his arm. It was the only tattoo he had and it had meaning. A meaning Emily needed to know.

“What about this?” Emily grabbed his arm, letting the light shine on the dark ink. “You let these women see it but you won’t tell me what it means?” I have a right to know I’m your daughter.” Emily felt tears beginning to fall as she looked up at her father for answers. She was tired of not knowing, she was tired of being in the dark. Her father looked just as hurt as she did. He looked like he was caught up in a mix of emotions she couldn’t describe. His mouth opened as if he was going to explain it all to her. She felt a surge of hope before it died in her stomach as he closed his mouth. He turned away, heading towards his office.

“Another time.”

The doors slammed behind him making the wall between them that much thicker. She thought she knew her father she thought they were close. Yet, as she got older and more questions passed without answers, she felt like she was losing the only family she had. Emily ran to her room. She closed the door and slid down the back of it. She let herself cry before looking at her phone and dialing Kelly’s number. This wasn’t the first time and it wouldn’t be the last.
