Congrats, you found the only normal person to date in the Capital

Though you had grown up in a “the districts are evil” presence from Grandma’am, you picked up Tigris’ kindness and weren't affected by the same disgust Coriolanus felt for others. No matter how much kindness was spread in the home, the fact you were dating Sejanus affected the family and how they viewed you, especially how Coriolanus viewed you

Grandma’am felt he had been “driven down the right path” by being in the Capital most of his life and felt more at ease with the boy. Tigris was just as pleasant as she was with anyone. Coriolanus doesn't take it easy

Coriolanus already had a problem with judging Sejanus but it's grown worse. What do you mean there's a “possibility” that he'll stay forever?! Sejanus is weird to him! Coriolanus believed he was affecting you with his “extreme” ideologies (extreme being the good treatment of the districts)

It does influence the relationship but not too much. Sejanus doesn't grow negative from your family. He doesn't always go around Grandma’am because one wrong move and she's ranting about how the Capital should have done worse to the districts

Sejanus is very willing to talk to Ma about the relationship and goes to her for advice. He always takes in what she likes and what you might like. He asks at random about your favorite things he could buy

Speaking of not being around specific family members, Strabo is the last person to know about you and Sejanus. Ma knows from the beginning and actively helps him with dates and presents. Strabo, on the other hand, constantly makes comments about how it's “good for the families” because you're both considered well-known. He never takes in the idea you both have actual love for the other

He is the sweetest guy you could ever date. No, he's not experienced with romance but tries. Not a lot of people want to date a boy from a district

Sejanus will try to plan something memorable for your dates, it's the only time he truly enjoys how rich he is. He’ll never admit that to Strabo

Whenever he goes on his usual rants against Dr. Gaul, he goes to you for comfort. Sejanus never says he wants comfort from you, he doesn't always want to burden you with his feelings, he'll just stay close. He’ll be open about his feelings and how much he despises some people for how cruel they are

For the last headcanon, he says “thank you” after your first kiss.

Literally I have so many thoughts about Avox!Coriolanus, I have a fic outline but i'm gonna treat you to some headcanons, i'm Not Okay about this

Setting:

(In this au, Gaul is even more psychopathic than she is in the book - she cares so deeply about the perpetual state of war, and a twisted fairness in the games, that she perceives Coriolanus' actions as unforgiveable, and effectively discards him. She can always find another star pupil to take under her wing)

Coriolanus is accused of being a traitor to the Capitol due to his aiding of Lucy Gray in the games. To preserve the sanctity of the games, Lucy Gray is pardoned, as she has been 'manipulated' by Snow's evil rebel tendencies. In reality, she takes a deal to return to District Twelve by throwing Coriolanus under the bus.

The footage of Coriolanus attempting to rescue Sejanus from the arena is heavily edited to make it appear as though Coriolanus snuck into the arena and killed Bobbin to give Lucy Gray an unfair advantage.

Sejanus' role in the arena break-in is forgiven due to Strabo making a sizeable donation to the games.

The Snow family reputation is irrevocably destroyed - thankfully, the Capitol public holds great pity for Tigris and the Grandma'am, as they appear to be such fragile and pathetic creatures.

Plot Points In My Brain That Will Not Leave Me Alone

Coriolanus is utterly broken by the whole situation. Even when he was almost destitute, he could rely on his wit, charisma, manipulations and lies to get him out of trouble. That has all been stripped away. His own selfishness and hunger has ruined everything

Mr and Mrs Plinth are offered Coriolanus by Dr Gaul, and they agree to take him, albeit for different reasons; Strabo, to teach Sejanus the lesson he still hasn't learned about the Capitol, and Mrs Plinth, to try and give Coriolanus an easier life than he would experience elsewhere. They keep this acquisition to themselves.

Coriolanus stays in a room at the end of the servants quarters. In the first week, he doesn't come out of his tiny box room. Sejanus visits him on that first night, but Coriolanus doesn't even acknowledge his presence.

There are other Avoxes in the Plinth household, of course, but they hardly interact with Coryo. He isn't obedient, he isn't anything bar borderline catatonic, and they've learned the hard way what that leads to.

Eventually Coriolanus is coaxed out into the greater Plinth residence, and Sejanus treats him nicely enough, but Coryo cannot bring himself to eat. It's too painful on his throat, the food given to him far too rich, Sejanus far too sweet. He cries.

They settle into a new normal, but Coriolanus struggles to pick up the sign language the avoxes use. Not that Sejanus would understand it. Sejanus procures a notepad and pen for Coriolanus to write out his thoughts. It is confiscated by Strabo.

Sejanus misinterprets Coriolanus' eventual acquiescence to his circumstances as comfort. He thinks Coriolanus is becoming content in his company; instead, he has allowed the overwhelm to consume him. Coriolanus feels safer in Sejanus' presence, but not safe.

Coriolanus has nightmares often, and sleeps poorly. It is late one night in Sejanus' room, and he is reading a book, Sejanus reading out the words. They are sitting next to each other, and Coriolanus tires, eventually nodding off with his head on Sejanus' shoulder.

Sejanus begins to enjoy having Coriolanus at his beck and call, just as Coriolanus becomes accustomed to following orders.

It is another late night when Sejanus' hands begin to wander. It is not something Coriolanus has anticipated. He lets it happen anyway.

I have two favorite characters in the entire thg universe and they are Peeta and Tigris.

About Peeta, the main reason I adore him is that he's kind. He is kind and likes to create and seek beauty in a world designed for cruelty, yet he is not weak or naive, he has his eyes wide open to his surroundings and survives in his own way. He is the male character that I hold dear to my heart because he has the characteristics of a villain or a dark romantic interest, but with the specific and clear intention that he does not want to become that. He fears becoming a monster and strives against becoming one, and when it is out of his control, he fights with everything he has to not let it consume him so that he can be himself again. He is dangerous in a way that few people pay attention to. His way with words and camouflage can be a frightening thing, even in the arc of his hijacking, there are moments when he makes space for himself in other people's lives, but instead of using those talents to gain power or influence over others, he uses them to comfort strangers, gain allies, be useful to others or as a desperate attempt to not disappear (oh the irony).

I started liking Tigris after I read tbosas. In the original trilogy, I didn't pay much attention to her but oh how wonderful it was to meet her in tbosas! She is a character I respect a lot, for her desire to achieve her dreams in the midst of terribly difficult times, for her hard work to keep her family afloat, and for the way love did not leave her blind. It takes a lot of courage to see the people we love for who they are and she didn't just prune the family tree, she set it on fire.

Peeta has many phrases that are gold, but my favorite is “But even if that happens, everyone will know we've gone out fighting, right?” In my opinion, it sums up his character and how he always puts everything he has into his ideals, ideas or plans. And my favorite moment is when he comforted the victor of District 6 as she died. I cry every time I see/read that scene.

There is a phrase of Tigris that is engraved in my soul “Try not to look down on people who had to choose between death and disgrace.” And the scene I love the most is from Movie!Tigris, when she tells Coriolanus that he looks just like his father. It's art. I get chills every time I watch that scene.

One thing I don't like about Peeta is his way of deflecting questions or comments that reveal something about him. On several occasions Katniss asks him very real questions, trying to find out more about him, but he shuts down and instead of sharing his real thoughts he says a flirtatious or romantic comment that distracts Katniss. The poor girl struggles to learn to communicate with him and he won't let her get to know him without making it more confusing for her. Every time he does that I sigh in impatience and scold him in my mind. 🥲

There's a reason why the headcanon about Tigris that I defend to the death is "Snow forced her to participate in the games to gain influence," and that's because I can't stand the idea of Tigris doing it willingly. It's my biggest delulu moment/thing. 🙃

Thoughts about The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes

These are just surface observations, there’s a few things I definitely need a little longer to process into a rhetorical analysis. Spoilers for The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes below the cut. 

Im definitely salty that every character- every tribute, every mentor, and even the parrot that shows up for like 3 pages- gets a name. And yet Katniss’s own parents and Peeta’s whole family are unnamed. Grrrr

Tigris as Snow’s cousin is strange to me, and this relationship really doesn’t have much bearing on the story so it felt like a weird tie-in. Although I am wondering if this is just supposed to illustrate Snow’s cruelty even more. The fact that he banished his own cousin from the games years later? Heartless.

I liked seeing the Hunger Games so early into their inception, before all the pomp and circumstance when the Capitol was still figuring out how to make them watchable.

Sejanus mostly irritated me. What Sejanus can do Peeta can do better.

Expanding on District 12 was great, it felt very natural with what we already know from Katniss.

I loved Snow’s deep hatred for mockingjays from the very beginning. It makes for delicious irony later in the series.

We got the Valley Song at last!

The mention of katniss potatoes was a nice little wink.

Loved the origin of the Hanging Tree song and the origin of the Games themselves. The reveal that Snow’s own father had a hand in creating them? Brilliant.

Turning on Sejanus was not a surprise and felt very in character for the person Snow was growing to be, and the fact that he used jabberjays to do it was all the better.

Snow realizing that he hates foraging and living in the wilderness was hilarious.

I also loved the ending with Snow turning on Lucy Gray, with her realizing what he was going to do before he even knew it himself. I never really felt the romantic connection between them so it made sense when he decided to betray her.

Snow poisoning Dean Highbottom at the end was great as well. The beginning of his journey to poisoning people on his ascent to power.

I had moments of sympathy for Snow throughout the book- it’s funny to root for an antihero, especially one that becomes so evil later on.

My overall feeling is that I liked the book, but didn’t love it. I certainly loved parts of it, the ending in particular. However, I felt it dragged in a few places, especially prior to the Games. During and after the Games made for much more engaging reading. I’m glad it didn’t ruin any of my personal headcanons and it did not affect my feelings about Everlark at all, so I’m not sure why people are feeling down about this in particular. There were enough callbacks to the original series and new content that it added to the world of Panem instead of undoing the groundwork laid down in the trilogy. All in all, I think it made for a good prequel.

Coriolanus Snow x Male! Reader (romantic, hurt comfort headcanons)

Summary: Coriolanus comforts male! reader after having a nightmare about the Games.

Having gone roughly three years without the Hunger Games being a prominent part of your life wasn't as easy as you wished it was. The memories, or rather nightmares, or the Games still haunt you, as much as you don't want to admit. Though, singing in Pluribus Bell's tavern with other singers and musicians is very fun and is an easy form of money.

Coriolanus is enough of a comfort, living with the man that helped you through the Games is an easy life since he's rich (finally).

You never told him about your nightmares, claiming you were fine and that you didn't get flashbacks of the Games.

And he believes you, sort of. Coriolanus is very observant, unconsciously watching you and eventually noticing how you react to specific sights, tastes or smells that remind you of the Games. Either way, he doesn't bring it up because he partially doesn't care but also because you don't bring it up yourself.

But it all becomes too much one night.

It was a random night, you and Coriolanus sleeping in your bed, the room dim and quiet. It was very pleasant for a long while, sleeping in his arms was very nice.

Obviously, your trauma had to come into play and fuck up your sleep. The dream devolved into remembering the tunnels in the arena and the fear of seeing the other tributes try running after you.

You woke with a jolt, breathing heavily and covered in sweat. You look around as you try catching your breath, looking over at Coriolanus who stayed asleep, even after your sudden movements.

Deciding to leave the room was for the best, you quietly climb out from under the covers and open the door, leaving the room silently.

You sat staring mindlessly at the wall, lost in thought. The living room lights were dimmed, just bright enough for you to see. But it didn't take long for Coriolanus to notice you were gone.

He climbs out of the bed and slowly walks out of his room. Groggily, he rubs his eyes and looked around, hoping to find you.

"(Y/n)? Why're you up?" Coriolanus groaned as he stepped closer, looking down at you as you sit on the couch.

"Nothing, just... couldn't sleep," you mumble back to him. Taking in a breath, Coriolanus sits down next to you.

"Alright, then let's get back to bed." Coriolanus states, expecting you to follow him back to bed. But you didn't move. "Are we going back to bed?"

You stare down at your hands and finally speak again. "Can I tell you something?" You mutter and look over at him.

Coriolanus was partially disappointed that you both wouldn't just go back to sleep. His sleep was very important. Nonetheless, he nodded. "Go ahead."

You take in a breath and speak again. "I know the Games were three years ago, but I still have been having nightmares and flashbacks and stuff." You say and try keeping eye contact with him. Coriolanus eyes you as you spoke. He already knew you had nightmares and flashbacks from your time as a tribute. But tried acting like he didn't already know.

"I know I should have told you sooner, but I just felt you had better things to worry about. " You blurt out suddenly, staring at him silently. He gazed at you and slowly nodded. Coriolanus only knew small things about comforting someone and it was mostly from Tigris, who was almost natural with her ways of comfort.

So, he leaned forward and wrapped his arms around you. His embrace was almost as stiff as you as you sat wordlessly in his arms. At some point, you accept the affection and wrap your arms around him.

Your body loosened as time went on, sitting with him felt nice, he felt nice. You couldn't help sniffling at the warmth of his body, accepting that you were with him and not in the dark and damp arena anymore.

Coriolanus slowly got comfortable with you in his arms. This must be why Tigris loves hugs like this so much, it was so nice. And it was nicer because you sat here with him, allowing him to hold you in your most vulnerable moments.

At last, Coriolanus brought his head to your forehead and kissed your head lightly.

It's more likely that you met her while working for Fabrica, being in a similar situation where you work under her, less as a clothes maker and more as a servant.

She would be the first to fall in love and it would be obvious. She's not very experienced with things like romance, considering she prioritized other things like her family and getting money. Tigris would never have the time.

But meeting you in such a convenient way, she couldn't help it! You were just so kind and beautiful!

Tigris wouldn't make the first move, but she would make it more obvious she has a thing for you, at least what she would consider more obvious. Like smiling more around you than she would around others, and her pale skin turning a soft pink from blush.

Once you both start dating, she would be more willing to show love and affection to you. Holding hands and kissing are the most prominent.

Tigris is one of the kinder people of the Snow family, not caring if she dates a District or Capital person. That doesn't mean her family doesn't have a problem with you if you aren't Capital.

If you're Capital, Grandma'am will be ok with it. "At least she isn't district." Grandma'am would say to Tigris at being told about her having a girlfriend.

The same can be said for Coriolanus, it's better if you're from a richer family and taking the job with Fabrica for fun. Another reason he would prefer Tigris having a girlfriend would be because it doesn't press as bad of a title compared to "sex worker".

If you're District, her family knows nothing of you, maybe your name would slip when Tigris is with Coriolanus but would never talk about the fact that you're District. It's not because she feels embarrassed about dating a District person, she's just doing it for your own safety.

Tigris would take interest in your life no matter where in Panem you're from, she'd want to know the difference your life and hers.

Lastly, when she stops being a designer in the Hunger Games (if you both stay together long enough), she'll start her clothing store with you, keeping you safe from Snow and what he had become.
