at a certain point, when enough time passes, you get to look at your own work like it is something that is foreign to you. You are not the same person who did it in the first place, and that isn't always a bad thing. Looking at these in-between stages and seeing the...thought process? behind the work? its an interesting experience bcs i only vaguely remember how i did it. i know i blocked things out into light/half shadow/shadow. but it looks so well done? so thought out? like a meditative process. i'm sure i could do it again, but it will take some doing to find that mind space again, i think.

How does Tumblr not trash the res of your posts? I'm having this weird line issue-
Tumblr media
It looks kinda like it's glowing around the edges..?
Oh interesting….I’m not sure why it doesn’t show up on mine! Might depend on the export format is (jpeg, tif, png, etc.) or what size canvas you use but I would check those as well as your DPI. Those would be potential problem areas that I could think of.
You don’t want to have a super high DPI to prevent art theft but you also don’t want it to look pixilated. Maybe play around with those settings to see if it helps!

ey mates. i found this post from a terf talking about their commonly used abbreviations and terms. i'll copy-paste it here, unedited (except the formatting for easier read), so yous know better what to look out for + how they think/justify the use of these terms. i'll put an archive link later in case the read more link breaks. also, this post is full of anti-trans and anti-nonbinary bullshit so ... just be aware of that.
post source is gendercriticalthinking. am not making a whole blocklist bc ... would you believe me if i say that i tried but gave up after the first, like, dozen names bc it got too depressing? lmfao. (feel free to click on the link and peruse the notes yourself though. whenever you can take it.)
archive link.
* TIM and TIF stand for "Trans-Identified Male" and "Trans-Identified Female". Basically, TIMs are what others usually call "trans woman", and same for TIFs and "trans man" (although these terms also cover non-binary-identified and neo-gender-identified people as well).
TIM/TIF are used instead to more accurately reflect the reality of the people in question without sidelining their beliefs/identities: we understand you identify as trans, but calling males "women" and females "men", even if there's a "trans" in front, does not accurately convey reality, and we oppose that.
* OSA and SSA stand for "Opposite-Sex Attracted" and "Same-Sex Attracted". Therefore, the label OSA people covers straight and bisexual people, while SSA covers gay and bisexual people. Basically, SSA women/men are what others usually call "wlw/mlm".
Because people who believe in gender identity and use "mlm/wlw" consider some males to be women and some females to be men, the "men" and "women" in "mlm/wlw" do not accurately convey the reality (similar to the above) of the sex and sexualities of the people in question, as a male who is OSA but identifies as trans would be considered by some to be a "wlw". However, OSA and SSA place the emphasis back onto the sex and sexuality of the people in question, which is, again, a more accurate description of reality when talking about people and their sexualities.
* TRA stands for "Trans Rights Activist." However, this is mostly used to mean "people who agree with/support gender/trans identities/neogenders/etc" rather than "people who are engaging in actual activism for those beliefs." The term gendie is essentially used the same way (although it has more of a connotation of "trans/nb/neo-gender-identified people" rather tham "people who support gender identity but may not necessarily identify as trans/nb themselves") and it has been used frequently more recently, although I and others feel like it's a bit juvenile and derisive.
* Gender ideology refers to the beliefs above, e.g. the validity of gender/trans/non-binary/etc. identities. This is usually used to refer to the beliefs about gender that are exclusive to liberals: that you can change gender/sex, that gender/sex are not binary, that everyone has a gender identity, that misgendering someone or pointing out their "biological" (a redundant word) sex is at best highly offensive and at worst a hate crime, etc. Whereas, gender or gender roles/stereotypes are usually used to refer to the more historical/"classical" concept of gender which lines up with conservatives' beliefs: you know, the whole "women like pink and should wear makeup and are naturally submissive, but men like blue and should be muscular and are naturally dominant" crap.
Although they seem different, they're actually one and the same, or at the very least the liberal/new gender ideology is firmly founded in classic sexism. Both conservatives and liberals believe wholeheartedly in gender: that it applies to everyone without exception ("all women must be feminine and all men must be masculine", and in gender ideology's case add on "feminine women and masculine men are cis while gnc people are trans, you must be either cis or trans" aka you must either enjoy your gender role or want to transition because you dislike it), that it must be rigidly enforced and supported to maintain order and understanding ("A girl who likes boy things?!? That's an affront to nature and must be corrected, girls should like girly things!!!" or "A girl who likes boy things?!? That's clearly a sign she he must be trans, because boys like boyish things!!!"), that it's genetic/inherently true rather than something that is imposed upon people due to misogyny ("Women are submissive to men because God made them that way to be men's servants" and "Everyone has a gender identity, it's something you were born with in your brain, and how you feel about your body [which you can change] and your gender [which you cannot change] determines if you're cis or trans. You must be one or the other."), etc.
* GNC stands for "Gender Non-Conforming", aka what technically applies to most people on Earth, to the dismay of the gender fandom. It's usually used, however, to refer to people who are very noticeably/starkly/deliberately GNC in almost every way and proud of it, such as butch women.
* Gender critical (oftenshortened to "GC" ) is an adjective that most-accurately describes how people like me view gender/gender roles: they suck. Get rid of them. We are, you could say, "critical" of the concept of "gender". Not all gender critical people are radical feminists, but because rejection of the misogynistic concept of gender is a defining belief of GC people, we are nearly always some variety of feminist.
This means we don't really fit in with either of the two most-common/vocal "sides" of the trans debate: conservatives who see a male person in a dress and makeup go "This is disgusting! Stop wearing that right now! You're a man, so dress like one!", liberals who see the same guy go "This is so gender! I'm sure you're a trans woman because of how you present yourself! You're dressing like a woman, so that's who you are!", and gender critical people who see him go "This is awesome, keep being you! It's wonderful that you enjoy being a GNC man! What you enjoy or wear does not define who you are, and who you are does not define what you should enjoy or wear!"… or at least we would more often if the previous two groups didn't end up causing most GNC people to either be closeted/repressed, or believe they must be trans and therefore not a GNC man/woman but instead a gender-confirming trans woman/trans man (or some type of enby, same difference: "you don't obey the gender stereotypes belonging to your sex so you must not be that sex/gender" instead of "gender stereotypes are stupid, and your sex is your sex").
* TWAW is short for "Trans Women Are Women," a common chant and circular-logic-nonanswer from gender ideologists, the popularity of which in stark contrast to the lack of saying "trans men are men" (something only ever said after first saying TWAW, never on its own) surely has nothing to do with the coincidental fact that the beloved, supported, face-of-the-movement group are males and the forgotten, neglected, secondary-to-men group are females.
* While these are of course words used commonly by everyone, I think it would be helpful to lay out the gender-critical definitions of gender and sex here: "gender" is short for "gender roles/stereotypes" (see "gender ideology" above) whereas "sex" is used to refer to the biological realities (chromosomes, gametes, hormones, secondary characteristics, etc.) of being female or male.
Basically:
- Conservatives believe gender and sex are the same thing (or at least use the words interchangeably, as well as believe your gender should match your sex) and therefore believe "female = woman = feminine" and "male = man =masculine".
- Liberals believe gender and "biological" sex are different things (yet often confusingly use the words interchangeably or subconsciously believe they are the same [as seen in their frequent slips of the tongue when talked to] but claim to believe they are different because they want to be good allies) and therefore use "woman" and "man" to describe gender (because they believe "woman = feminine" and "man = masculine") while using "female" and "male" to describe sex (but again they often and confusingly use male/female as synonyms of man/woman, and again likely because they want to be good allies and believe anything that might contradict TWAW is horrific and transphobic).
- Gender critical people believe gender is an archaic, misogynistic system that is long overdue for being tossed out while sex is an accurate, scientific term (therefore making "biological/birth sex" redundant, it's like saying "meat-eating carnivore") to describe the reality of being a human. Women are adult female humans and men are adult male humans. "Feminine" and "masculine" are outdated, arbitrary, sexist concepts and should not be associated with anything: not clothes, not behaviors, and especially not one's sex. Your sex is just biology. It should never determine your behavior and lifestyle: neither to say your sex and behavior/lifestyle must match with gender, nor that if they don't match then your sex/gender must change to make them match.

I was wondering what kind of skill level and mediums are you expecting for the Stan Twins lyric comic?
Like for example I don't have great digital art skills, but I have fairly decent traditional arts skills like painting
Hi! Traditional art (of any kind) is fine! You would just need to have some way of digitizing the traditional art -- whether it's by scanning, or by taking a good photo of it. If you're trying to digitize it -- that is, get it into JPEG, TIF or PNG format -- and you're going to try to do that by taking a photo, we can give you feedback on how to do that in order to get the best results. Depending on the technology you have available, there may also be scanning apps that you can get for your phone?
Just note that under the "needs help / what kind of help" part of the interest form.
And, anyone reading this who has tips for how to digitize traditional art, if you don't have access to a flatbed scanner, please do reply! Or, reblog this with tips. Anon, be on the look out for replies to this post, in case others chime in.

I'm running Firefox 117.0 (most current) and, for whatever reason, &format=original doesn't work; any webp image still saves as a webp.
BUT just downloading the wretched webps and running them through XnConvert works every time. (NB, I'm not being paid to say this, it's just a good app which does what it's supposed to.)
Drag-and-drop as many webp files as need changed onto the convert list, click Convert and the new format (there are lots, from BMP to JPG to PNG to TIF and pretty well everything else) is saved to whatever destination folder you've assigned.
I started out saving conversions to Source folder (Downloads) for comparisons before deleting the webp originals. TBH the app has been so consistently reliable that now - or rather, when I remember to do the change-destination thing - I send the conversions straight to where they belong: Cats, Swords, Vintage Cars, Foodie Pix etc.
And when I don't remember, they go where they've always gone, so that's okay.
me when i meet the person who created webp files

(ARTS347) Design Field Trip with David Levine at NASA JPL & Adobe Aero Learning Module: Importing Assets into Aero
Week Nine
Design Field Trip: the Creative Process with David Levine at NASA JPL
Tumblr media
This week started with an informative lecture and discussion with David Levine, who works for NASA JPL. It ended with an introduction to Adobe Aero and the beginning of Project #3: Collaboration with the CMA and A.R Experience. To kick off the week, creative and visual strategist David Levine joined our interaction design class on Zoom to discuss his creative process and how he combines visual storytelling with scientific data and information. In his role, David collaborates with scientists and engineers to communicate the stories and missions behind NASA's projects in innovative and visually engaging ways. Examples of David's work include mission artwork, immersive art installations, and integrated campaigns that bring the wonders of space exploration to life for the public. His artwork has been showcased in the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), Tribeca Film Festival, and CES.
Before joining NASA, David worked as a creative director in advertising. He focused on experiential marketing campaigns for major brands such as American Express, Google, and Nike. His interest in a creative career began during high school/college, where he contributed to marketing and visuals for artists such as The Verve and The Chemical Brothers in the music industry.
During his time at JPL, David has created numerous impressive and inspiring projects. These include his Psyche poster series, his Earthshine installation, Atmospheric River artwork, and his Nintendo installation in Times Square. Overall, I am incredibly grateful that I had the opportunity to talk with David, and I cannot wait to see what else he comes up with in the future.
Adobe Aero Learning Module: Importing Assets into Aero
Tumblr media
Link to Article:
https://www.adobe.com/za/learn/aero/web/asset-import-aero?learnIn=1
This week, we met with two clients at the Columbia Museum of Art to discuss creating an augmented reality experience for the museum's collection and various exhibits inside and outside the museum for their crafts event in November. To accomplish this, I'll need to learn how to use Adobe Aero, which I've never used before. For our required reading this week, I chose to watch a video and read an article about importing assets into Adobe Aero, as this will be an essential part of the scavenger hunt for the museum.
Aero is a tool designed to assemble assets and add interactivity for augmented reality (AR) scenes. It is not where you create assets, but a platform to bring together 2D, 3D, and animated elements. There are three main ways to import assets: first, select a file and then hit the import button; second, select the import button icon to import an asset; third, drag and drop from the desktop window. These methods are similar to other Adobe applications, making it easier to navigate compared to other applications such as Figma. Adobe Aero supports various file types for importing, including PNGs, JPGs, Photoshop files, SVGs, TIFs, animated GIFs, and animated PNG sequences. PNGs are common for images with transparent backgrounds, while JPG is the standard format for compressed images. Photoshop files retain layer information, useful for animations and complex scenes, and SVGs are ideal for logos or simple illustrations. TIF is a high-quality image format, and animated GIFs are great for quick animations. Animated PNG sequences must be imported as a zipped file. In terms of 3D file types, Adobe Aero supports GLB, GLTF, FBX, OBJs, 3DS, and Collada (DAE). GLB is the preferred 3D file type due to its compact size, fast loading time, and support for textures/materials. GLTF is similar to GLB but involves multiple files (model, textures, animations) within one folder. FBX must be imported as a zipped file along with the textures and materials. OBJs require zipped file import with MDL or MTL material files, and 3DS is a common 3D format for simple models. In our case, we are more likely to use the first set of file types, as our goal is to highlight certain elements of the art piece in the museum and make it stand out, rather than create moving sequences. However, we may change this decision as we progress further in the design process.
When building the AR scene, I chose this article because Aero allows users to create immersive, interactive scenes for mobile-based AR experiences once the assets are imported. For mobile compatibility, it's important to use small, optimized file sizes and textures for faster loading on mobile devices. To ensure a smooth experience on mobile devices, it's important to keep textures and images at 1080x1080 pixels or smaller, which is essentially the same size as an Instagram post. Following these guidelines on supported formats and file size optimization will ensure a smooth user experience for members of the museum's event, especially for mobile-based AR applications.

What is a Tiffin Meal?
A Tiffin meal is a light, portable meal traditionally associated with Indian and South Asian cuisine, though its concept has gained global recognition. What is tiffin? The term “tiffin” originates from British India during the colonial period, derived from the English slang “tiffing,” which meant taking a light meal or snack. Over time, it has evolved to represent an entire meal served in a compact, transportable format.
Key Features of a Tiffin Meal:
Compact and Portable: Tiffin meals are usually packed in multi-tiered containers, commonly called tiffin boxes. These containers are designed to separate different dishes and maintain their freshness and temperature.
Balanced and Versatile: Tiffin food typically includes a variety of dishes to ensure a balanced diet. For instance, in Indian households, a tiffin might feature rice, chapati, curry, vegetables, pickles, and sometimes a dessert. The composition varies widely, reflecting regional and cultural influences.
Convenience for Work and Travel: Tiffin meals are widely used by students, officegoers, and travellers because they are easy to transport and nutritious. In cities like Mumbai, the famed dabbawalas deliver home-cooked tiffin meals to office workers, exemplifying the efficiency and cultural importance of this meal concept. Tiffins, often made with insulated or stainless steel materials, are designed to tiffin keep food warm and fresh for extended periods.
Cultural Significance: In India, the tiffin meal represents more than just food; it’s a reflection of home-cooked love and care. For many, it’s a connection to traditional family recipes and flavors, even when they are away from home. Non veg food includes meat, poultry, seafood, and eggs, offering rich protein content and diverse flavors in global cuisines.
Global Adaptations: The concept of tiffin meals has transcended its Indian roots. In many parts of the world, it has inspired meal prep trends, bento boxes, and portable lunch solutions.
Tumblr media
Why Choose a Tiffin Meal?
Tiffin meals are practical, nutritious, and eco-friendly. They reduce reliance on disposable packaging and often emphasize fresh, homemade food. Food services in Buckinghamshire offer diverse options, including catering, delivery, and dine-in, featuring local and international cuisines.
Whether enjoyed at work, school, or on a picnic, a tiffin meal ensures a delightful and satisfying dining experience wherever you are. Lavang, or clove, is a fragrant spice used in Indian cuisine for its warm flavor, medicinal properties, and aroma.
What Goes in An Indian Tiffin?
An Indian tiffin is a carefully packed meal that reflects India's diverse culinary traditions. Typically carried in a multi-tiered stainless steel container called a tiffin box, it ensures that various dishes remain separate and fresh until mealtime.
Indian tiffins are designed to offer a balanced, wholesome, and flavorful meal, often including a mix of carbohydrates, proteins, vegetables, and condiments. Indian tiffin service offers home-cooked meals delivered daily, featuring a variety of traditional dishes like curries, rice, and roti.
Here’s a detailed look at what usually goes into an Indian tiffin:
1. Main Course Staples
Rice or Roti (Flatbread): Most Indian tiffins include either steamed rice or freshly prepared rotis (sometimes parathas or naan). These form the carbohydrate base of the meal. Some prefer flavored rice, like pulao or biryani, for added variety.
Dal (Lentils): A small container is often dedicated to dal, such as toor dal, moong dal, or masoor dal, providing a rich source of protein and flavor.
2. Vegetable Dishes (Sabzi)
Indian tiffins typically include one or more vegetable preparations called sabzi. These can range from dry stir-fried vegetables like aloo gobi (potatoes and cauliflower) or bhindi masala (okra) to gravied dishes like paneer butter masala or chana masala. Tiffin service provides home-cooked meals delivered to your doorstep, offering convenience, variety, and balanced nutrition for busy individuals.
Seasonal vegetables are commonly used to ensure freshness and nutrition.
3. Accompaniments
Pickles (Achaar): A small portion of spicy, tangy pickles made from mango, lime, or mixed vegetables adds a burst of flavor to the meal.
Chutneys: Freshly made chutneys, like mint-coriander, coconut, or tamarind, serve as flavorful dips.
Curd/Yogurt: Yogurt or raita (spiced yogurt with vegetables) helps cool the palate and balances the spices. Indian spices like turmeric, cumin, cardamom, and coriander are essential for flavorful dishes, offering health benefits and aromatic richness.
4. Snacks and Sides
Many tiffins include snacks like samosas, pakoras, or vadas, adding variety and texture to the meal. Papads (crispy lentil crackers) may also accompany. Gujarati tiffin service delivers homemade, flavorful dishes like dhokla, thepla, and kadhi, offering a taste of authentic Gujarati cuisine.
5. Desserts
A small, sweet treat, such as gulab jamun, kheer, or laddoos, is often included, providing a satisfying end to the meal.
6. Optional Extras
Sometimes, Indian tiffins include boiled eggs, chicken curry, or fish fry for those who consume non-vegetarian food. Food services in Slough provide a variety of options, including restaurants, catering, and delivery, offering diverse global and local cuisines.
What To Eat with Curry Other Than Rice?
When enjoying curry, rice isn’t the only option to pair it with. For a different twist, try naan bread, a soft, warm Indian flatbread perfect for scooping up curry. You can also serve curry with crispy flatbreads like chapati or paratha for a satisfying crunch.
For a lighter option, opt for quinoa or couscous, which absorb the curry’s flavors beautifully. Sweet potatoes or roasted vegetables provide a hearty, nutrient-packed alternative. Additionally, salads with yogurt-based dressings or fresh greens balance the richness of curry, offering a refreshing contrast.
These alternatives offer variety while complementing the spiciness and depth of curry. Tiffin delivery services provide home-cooked, nutritious meals, often delivered in traditional boxes, ideal for busy professionals and students.
Conclusion
An Indian tiffin is more than just a meal; it is a thoughtful combination of flavors, textures, and nutrition. With its variety and balance, it ensures a delightful dining experience, whether at work, school or on the go.

If you want a serious answer to the .JPG question, it's a remnant of the DOS days when file extensions had to be three characters. Even after that restriction was lifted, there was a fair amount of code relying on three-character extensions, which is why almost all well-known, old filetypes are exactly three characters, and especially Windows ones (txt, pdf, doc, exe, zip, cab, png, tif, gif, mp3, etc). .tif is another example of a shortened four-letter acronym (TIFF, for Tag Image File Format)
-looks at the acronym sound out-
-soft whisper- No.
IT'S JOINT PHOTOGRAPHIC EXPERTS GROUP SO .JPEG MUST BE PRONOUNCED J-FEG!
lol
Now, though, I'm wondering if .JPGs are from the Joint Photographers Group—the non-experts who also wanted to have a little something for themselves.

Please, please, do not use PNGs for saving WIPs or archiving. Keep everything in the native format at all times and ONLY export at the very very end.
Because you want that perceptual setting on to keep the colours in your images from bleeding outside the display gamut of your audience's monitors.
And if you're transfering files to a print house, don't send them PNGs either. Save as a PDF so they can adds the printer's marks they need easily, or at the very least a TIF, so that you can be assured that absolutely no data gets compressed out of existence.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just to make a point, every time I finished a panel of this I would export it as a PNG on the perceptual setting and use it as a color reference for the next panel
IT'S BAD
PLEASE CHECK YOUR COLOR SETTINGS
EDIT: If you're still having problems, it might help to switch from "Save/Save as" to "Export (as a) Single Layer". Just. Make SURE the box labeled "Expression Color" is set to RGB. I've been messing with this all day, and it looks like this combination of settings will allow exported PNGs to maintain their colors perfectly. To you. So far both Discord and Toyhouse still only display desaturated images and I cannot for the life of me figure out why
