Contemporary “Ticking Clock” Moviemakers love having characters race against time. A famous example occurs in “Goldfinger” with Bond trying to disable an atomic bomb fitted out with a digital clock counting off the seconds. In “The Countdown,” director Alex Reid employs text messages as the timing device. The 22-minute thriller—starring the director—was made with a $0 budget and shot primarily on an @Apple iPhone using @FiLMiCapps. A few scenes were filmed with a @DJIglobal drone. He knows what it is to die, and as his heart aches, he asks for a moment if he could ask Essek to love that boy who smelled of smoke in his absence, knowing that the man he held dear was irretrievably gone. He does not want to answer that question.

Before my Grandfather moved on, he came across this old time piece. He kept it in his possession for a lifetime; perhaps even forgetting about it. It froze unwound in an obscure realm within his home. The small circular clock stopped ticking as it slept. No one was winding it up. This is certainly comparable to death, an absence of purpose gives death the unjustified fear that defines it. We're all a tad different in our perception of time and life. I'll tell ya something on a personal note, holding an object older than anyone you know is surreal. This pocket watch predates even the first world war, and I feel a bit dumbfounded finding it in my possession. It'd be nice to know who else gazed upon it's spinning gears.
