Hands.

It was an odd body part, honestly. Easily recognisable, used in every aspect. But it wasn’t anything special.

To Freelancer, at least.

Their hands weren’t anything special. Sure, they used them often, they could do magic or.. whatever with them. But it wasn’t special to them. Wasn’t appealing. Just a body part that they tended to hate more than others.

Scanning their own hands, seeing all the scars; dulled cuts and skin that never really fully healed around their nails. They closed their hand into a fist, opening it before closing it again. Their brows furrowed slightly.

They weren’t the comparing type by any means, but they couldn’t help but visualise their hand against their friends. Lasko’s hands are smooth, soft. Huxley’s are a little rough, but nice nonetheless. Damien’s was a little frayed around the edges, calloused, but they liked it. Gavin’s were perfect. But theirs? They hated it.

Maybe it was the scars violently reminding them about what they’ve been through. Maybe it’s the memories that they hold. Maybe they didn’t like it just because it was apart of themselves. All options considered, they slowly put their hands on their knees. Eyes flicking to one hand to the other and back again. Their lips pressed into a frown.

“Freelancer?”

They didn’t bother to look behind them. They knew that voice. That comforting voice, always at their side whenever they needed it. For some reason, he always knew when to come. It was sweet until they wanted alone time. They felt Gavin’s weight on the bed as he sat next to them, and he stayed quiet for a while, as if awaiting something from them. A sentence, confirming if they were okay or not. When they didn’t speak, he frowned.

“You okay?” He tilted his head, and they, in turn, shook theirs, a clear no. He sighed. He hated seeing them upset. Some part of him hurt when they did. His hand hovered above Freelancer’s shoulder, awaiting permission to touch them. They leaned into his hand. He wrapped an arm around them and brought them closer.

He pressed his lips against their forehead, eliciting a small “Mn..” sound from them. Their head moved to rest on his shoulder. “What’s wrong?” Gavin softly asked, earning Freelancer to finally look at him. They looked exhausted, dark rimming under their eyes. Gavin’s heart ached. They looked at him with a certain softness they really only showed him. They glanced down and lifted their hand.

Gavin tilted his head as his other hand that wasn’t holding Freelancer moved to hold their hand. He ran his thumb across their knuckles and they shuffled closer to him. “Don’t like them, do you?” Gavin asked hesitantly, and they nodded, looking embarrassed; glancing up at him before looking away. His brows furrowed slightly before gently lifting their hand up to his face.

He pressed a kiss into their hand. Freelancer quickly looked back with softly flushed cheeks. Their hand felt warm. Gavin’s eyes lifted to look at their beautiful face, looking at them with such admiration through his eyelids. Freelancer’s lips pressed together as they increasingly became flustered. But.. feeling better, as well.

Gavin pressed another kiss to their hand, on a knuckle. Another kiss on each finger. Another kiss in the middle of their hand, his hand idly rubbing theirs in small circles. “I love your hands.” Gavin mumbled against Freelancer’s skin. “I love every part of you.” He added, pressing his lips against their skin once more. They couldn’t take their eyes off of him.

“You’re so beautiful.”

Each kiss was punctuated with another word.

“Gorgeous” , “Pretty” , “Stunning” , “Heavenly”.

“There’s no part of you that I don’t constantly desire, my Deviant.” He hummed against their hand, pulling away as he moved to kiss their cheek. They leaned into him, hands holding his.

“I wish you could see yourself the way I see you. But until then, I’m gonna be here reminding you,” A kiss. “that you’re the most perfect person I’ve laid my eyes on.”

“I love you, Freelancer.” Freelancer stared at him with soft eyes. “You don’t need to talk. I know you love me too, my dear.”

They smiled as they pressed a kiss against his lips.

Looking down, seeing their hand intertwined with his; in that moment, they didn’t feel so bad about it anymore.

Major Spoilers for Demon Slayer through the end of the manga!

THE SHINAZUGAWA BROTHERS!! *sobs* Goodness gracious do I have songs for them! My favorite is probably "Forest Fire" by Brighton--such a deep, emotionally raw song but so depressing and angsty especially when thinking of Genya and Sanemi (so you really do have to be the right mood for it). It has since become an anthem for all of my favorite complicated brother relationships, but it started off as a Shinazugawa Brothers song and I think it fits them the best, especially given how completely devastated Sanemi was to lose Genya.

I really think the refrain: "And how was I to know I'm not strong? I should have saved you. And oh, I hope you know that you're my home, but now I'm lost, so lost" perfectly sums up exactly how Sanemi felt after losing his brother: the pain, the guilt, and the grief he feels and how he is just so lost without his brother (the related ending line "How was I to know that you were my home, but now I'm lost" also hits like a punch to the gut in this context). Also, the lines: "And then the fire started building up inside--exploding blinding lights. Now I'm the one left screaming through the night" gives me chills when I think about Sanemi and the "fire...inside" of him (his anger and how he lashed out at his brother) and how that ultimately left him alone in the world, literally screaming in anguish in one of the most heart-wrenching scenes in the entire series.

Anyway, for my related headcanon, however, I'm going to pull inspiration from the first verse and go for hurt/comfort rather than angst:

When Genya was very little, he used to have nightmares especially when there was stormy weather, but Sanemi was always there to comfort him. He used to curl up next to him and gently ruffle his hand through his brother's hair until he calmed enough to fall back asleep. Even when Genya was asleep again, Sanemi wouldn't leave him and would fall asleep himself right by his brother's side.

Angsty edition: To this day Sanemi sometimes finds himself waking up in the middle of the night reaching out for Genya, but he's no longer there...

Honorable mention because actually when I finished the KNY manga, I listened to the duet version of the song "Brother" (YouTube) (by needtobreathe and Gavin DeGraw) and cried real, literal tears imagining it was Genya and Sanemi singing to each other. [And even though it's been a while, I just heard the non-duet version the other day and actually started tearing up ngl lol]. There are just some excellent lines here that really remind me of the Shinazugawa brothers! "Get a little restless from the searching/Get a little worn down in between" reminds me of Genya and "There's a cage locked around my heart" and the whole section "I ain't made for a rivalry/I could never take the world alone/I know that in my weakness I am strong/It's your love that brings me home" really reminds me of Sanemi (and how he really feels about his brother).

Just something I made at midnight :D

I put my stuff down, and head towards the gym. I saw Maya talking to someone, but she quickly went to choir. I'm in the gym for a couple minutes, then Amanda walks in. "Amanda :D" "hi :D". I then tell her that Zack said "me gusta comer Gato" in spanish. She was indeed surprised.

She then had to leave for gym a, where Ms.madden's class is almost always hidden. I had to go on the bleachers in gym c, as always. Feldkamp took attendance and said we were going to play basketball But of course, with Mr tretter's class. Ms madden's class was playing whamyball. He said we needed teams of 3, so when I saw Cassie and Emily, I decided to join their team. Our team had to play in gym c, bc gym b was for basketball players, I think. So I wasn't able to see anyone in gym a. But, during the whole entire class, I could hear Bennett literally screaming "YEAAAAA" (It happens a lot). Or at least I think it's him.. who else would it be?

The first round we had to play linnea, Kaleigh, and zahra. We weren't even properly playing, we were just taking turns shooting hoops. I was so tired, I could not stop daydreaming. The whole time. Literally no point during basketball where I was not daydreaming. Now that I think abt it, it would've been so much more embarrassing if Ms madden's class had to do basketball, bc.. there are some really good basketball players in that class..

The second round we played Forest, and 2 other guys I don't remember the names of. One kinda looked like evan. Forest seemed to be trying to teach Emily abt basketball.. bc he was explaining something abt a checkup with the ball? I don't even know how I remember stuff they said while being so tired.

During the first 2 rounds of 10 minute games, Cassie would wake me up by passing me the ball like 1 time per game, which I was fine with. At least it wasn't a million times.

For the 3rd and final round, we had to play against Sophie and her friends, including Natalie and Camryn. But the thing was, they were not playing and just sitting on the bleachers for the whole class. So of course, we couldn't play them. None of us three wanted to ask them to play since we know how that would go, so we just sat on the bleachers. I day dreamed a bit, watched Gavin's game, and looked at the timer thing on the wall. But while watching Gavin's game, I had realized something.

One of the many guys I didnt know the name of, someone on the team said his name. I always called this person James since they kinda look like james. It turns out their name was actually lucas. This made me scan him for a bit. Was this the Lucas that rizzed the statue? I saw signs. The face, the hat, the hair..

It was indeed the Lucas who rizzed the statue. This surprised me bc I thought I hadn't seen Lucas since 7th grade. Ig I was wrong. He wasnt a short king.

Cassie and Emily had some interesting conversations while I watched the game, but we'll talk abt those later. The timer finally ended, and both 2 classes went to the locker rooms. I waited outside the gym doors for Amanda, but realized madden's class was still playing. So I went back to the locker room.

I grab my stuff, and I'm abt to leave the locker room when suddenly, I see Lyla running into the locker room, being chased by amanda. I asked Amanda what happened. She said she was walking, and just started sprinting. She says it's funny, do that's why she did it. We then started talking about characters with a few others, while Lyla hid from amanda at the stalls. We then start walking out as I tell Lyla she can come out of her hiding spot. She didnt. Then Amanda said "cya loser!".
