"If - " was a photo feature done by Jack Binder in Hugo Gernsback's "Thrilling Wonder Stories" between 1938-1940, featuring a visual explanation for some possible far out scientific outcome, like harnessing telepathy, being stranded in time, or "If Atomic Power Could be Harnessed."
A comic artist, Jack Binder would co-create Stan Lee's first original character, the Destroyer, in 1941. His brothers Earl and Otto became pulp scifi authors.

THRILLING WONDER STORIES (vol. 10, #2) October, 1937. Cover by Howard V. Brown.
This magazine was edited by a teenaged Mort Weisinger, future editor of the Superman family of books at DC Comics. It also seemed to feature an awful lot of kaiju-like giant monsters on its covers.
