The most recent addition to my Library of Lost Species, this large, beautiful volume has also earned instant entry to my favorites list. A photographer and advocate for vanishing species, Schlossman built this work around the fantasic specimen collection of Chicago’s Field Museum. Eighty-two species are covered, twenty-three of which are extinct—and, unlike many books that limit themselves to charismatic birds and mammals, included here are fish and herptiles as well as plants, mollusks, and insects. As is the case with the previously reviewed Swift as a Shadow, the photography of this book is artistic in nature. The evocative images are accompanied by concise yet informative text, sharing stories of tragic losses as well as stirring triumphs of conservation. Schlossman also maintains a website that promises updated information on each profiled species, at www.extinction.photo. I’m very very happy to have added this powerful work to my collection.

despite the fact that the pdfs are literally available for free online I’ve spent the last two ish years trying to collect every single Animorphs book through finding them by chance at thrift stores and bookshops and only then will I allow myself to indulge in the series from beginning to end. I Love ThriftBooks!

This is going to sound like one of those thinly veiled Cariona or RayBans ads, but I guarantee this content is 100% not sponsored. I found this website through a screenshot of an old tumblr post on Pinterest before I even joined tumblr, so I thought I should put it back on here.

ThriftBooks is exactly what it sounds like: an online way to shop secondhand books at a discounted price. It's like Half Price Books, but with free shipping on orders $15+ and a rewards system that gives you free books. At the lowest tier, you get a free $6 book for every $60 you spend.

(But Will, spending $60 on books is easier than finding a book that only costs $6. That doesn't sound like a deal to me.)

It is on ThriftBooks! Prices get as low as $3, and not just on out-of-date kiddy books. I had a list of THIRTY-SIX books of required reading this semester (English major!!!), and I came out with only spending $200 total. I got FOUR free books through multiple orders. At market value, the full stack would have cost me around $650 through my campus bookstore. SIX HUNDRED FIFTY DOLLARS. For a stack of books I might not even read. That's a whole month of rent and utilities I saved.

I know, I know, it's a kiddie thing from thriftbooks, but summer's coming up and I know my booklr peeps love book bingo, so here's a free printable coloring sheet. The guidelines on the site itself say "color in an item for every 20 minutes you read", which you can certainly do, but you can also color something in for every book you read over the summer, or every chapter in one book you read, whatever you want really.

Obviously, no pressure, this isn't an official event being held by thriftbooks or me (and I'm not affiliated with thriftbooks in any way), I just saw this and thought it would be fun to share.
