The poet and the heartbroken lover

I drew @chaotic-zora's oc Thresher and my oc (who I haven't posted before ik) Sulane!

I put some info about Sulane under the cut :3

Sulane is a former warrior and current poet who lives with her lover Luvan on the outskirts of Zora's Domain. She and Luvan were exiled from their previous domain because Sulane is trans and Luvan is non-binary. When they came to Hyrule, they just found a cave and made it a home. Luvan is the half-sibling of a prince, so that technically makes Sulane a royal. About 90% of the poems she's written have been about Luvan, but she also writes about places she's been and people she's met.

Sulane is pretty shy, but she's extremely nice and will try to help people who seem hurt in whatever way. She loves to adventure, write, fish, and she adores her lover; while she hates monsters, heights, and Luvan's family (because Luvan is the only sane member of their family)

Thresh, in and out of armor! Their weapons include hand daggers, a bow , and rope/lasso.

In Thresh's Domain knights/warriors are ranked by the color of their armor in the following order: Silver (lowest), Bronze (middle), Black (highest. Typically reserved for commanders & captains). Black armor is produced through a process called fire bluing, which requires armor to be polished to a near mirror finish, something that takes months to achieve. When a zora is granted the right to wear black armor, they perform the polishing themselves before providing it to a blacksmith for bluing. This is to honor the steel that will protect them for the rest of their lives.

Due to various reasons Thresh never climbed ranks. However, his many victories eventually gained him favor and notoriety among the royals. The queen herself was the one to grant them the right to wear ornate armor.

Introducing my zora oc, Thresh (Short for Thresher, ironic I know. I got attached to the placeholder name).

Pronouns: They/Them/He/Him

Height: 6 ft 7 in.

Species: Thresher Shark/Tiger Shark

Coloration: Dark purple, lavender stripes, white belly, red eyes/fins

Profession: Warrior

Facts:

-Specializes in hand-to-tail combat

-Little brain to mouth filter (Blunt)

-Has a huge scar on his crest (post The Event)

-In love with his "Best Friend" Nyvor

-Not naked I swear (workin on their armor)

-Maps (can't read em, poor sense of direction)

-Horses (almost got trampled once)

Character/Lore Dump:

Thresher is proficient in hand-to-tail combat and commonly wields hand daggers, weighted rope (to lasso and subdue opponents), and a bow and arrow. If their opponent has a unique/impressive fighting style, Thresh will attempt to analyze it and merge it with his own combat style. The opportunity to learn new techniques is what Thresh enjoys most about combat, and as a result they are well versed in over a dozen different styles. He views loosing as a learning opportunity (humble).

During fights he'll whip his tail to disorient/ward off opponents (thresher shark genes woohoo). The act can leave nasty bruises, and he ties leather strips around his tail to make the blows worse. When the opportunity arises, he'll disarm opponents by striking their wrists with his tail. When done right this can cause an opponent to involuntarily drop their weapon.

Though intelligent in combat, that's about the extent of what they can do. He has a terrible time learning anything else, can't lead, and won't follow orders that go against his morals. It's why he never earned a title beyond "renowned warrior" within his Domain. He is outgoing, rowdy, and deeply in tune with his instincts.

He's in love with his best friend Nyvor, who's a healer. Unfortunately for him, weeks before Thresh planned to declare his intentions to court Nyvor, the "Event" occurred.

The Event: Thresh murders a corrupt Noble.

For nearly a decade a corrupt Zoran Noble has been causing Thresh's Domain to fall into disarray. Due to the Noble's high standing, they have repeatedly escaped prosecution, and Thresh, sick of their bullshit, decides to take the matter into his own claws.

Unfortunately, Nyvor catches him in the act. However, instead of reporting Thresh, Nyvor purposefully takes the downfall for the murder.

'Even now....he treats me gently....'

This is all Thresher can think as they watch Nyvor pluck the soiled blade from their hand. His motions are slow, and there is a gentleness to Nyvor's actions that betray his hidden affections towards the smaller zora. If Thresh was not so overwhelmed with confusion, perhaps they would have noticed, but alas, this was not the case.

"What are you doing, Nyvor?"

The clatter of armor echoes faintly in the distance. Guards are approaching, and they are early with their check in rounds.

"Protecting you."

Thresher's breath stills in his chest. They watch, striken, as Nyvor moves towards the corner of the room, and brandishes their own weapon against them.

"Stop. Stop please."

Nyvor's smile is kind. Loving. And his voice is soft. A stark contrast to his intimidating stature.

"It's okay Thresh. Everything is going to be okay."

Eveything is not okay. Nyvor gets sentenced to death by cliff face (thrown over a cliff into rocky waters below). No one believes Thresh when they state they were the one who murdered the Noble, not Nyvor, who cleverly twists the facts to ensure the blame remains solely on him.

As punishment for defending Nyvor, Thresher is tied up and forced to watch Nyvor get knocked out and thrown over the cliff. In one last desperate attempt to save his friend, Thresh escapes his bindings and flings himself after Nyvor.

He uses his body to physically protect Nyvor's head, and upon impact, gets knocked out. Miraculously they both survive, but get separated in the current, and Thresh wakes up washed ashore on the outskirts of Hyrule, alone, and lost. Thus begins his journey to find Nyvor.

I have a lot more art brewing for these two.... more lore to come with Nyvor's side of things.

DISTRACTIONS

Takes place before The Event. Thresh would frequently get hurt on purpose during training to visit Nyvor in his clinic. Stabbed, burned, cut, knocked out, you name it, Thresh has received it. At this point he's begun to associate pain with seeing Nyvor, and is now a bit of a masochist...

Nyvor endlessly worries about Thresh's health, but having Thresh in his clinic is a great excuse to get his hands (literally) on the other. It is atypical for a healer to touch their client when healing, but Nyvor regularly does this with Thresh to initiate physical contact.

Hhhhhh been fleshing out Thresh's Domain lore for awhile now. So far I have the usurper King, a warrior who overthrew the previous royals and corrupt council after Nyvor's sentence (Thresh leaving had a domino effect). He has no noble blood and is unmated so his reign is largely contested, but the zora of their domain love him and refuse to accept any other.

Then there is his advisor/diplomat zora, the mastermind behind the coup, who is essentially a shadow leader. They are a retired captain with a sharp mind who during his time fighting, wielded powerful ice magic over weapons. Though he is still able to use ice magic in times of need, it puts a huge strain on his mind and body.

Many in Thresh's Domain worship the Giants of Termania (changed the giants to match the respective races of each area, so Zora, Deku, Goron, and the undead of Ikana). Though not located in Termania (and if following Majoras Mask lore Termania exists in a parallel world), the legend of the four giants prevail to this day in Thresh's Domain.

It is said that you can contact the giants during sleep, when the veils between realms are the thinnest. If you sacrifice something of yourself, the giant may grant you amplified abilities. The greater the sacrifice the better the amplification. Nyvor, did this to amplify his healing abilities (sacrificed his venom glands and swore an oath to never fight). The advisor did this to amplify his ice magic abilities. Thresh did this too (lol heres my fish tities thanks for taking them, win win). And the usurper King is an avid worshiper (borderline zealot? Frequently makes offerings of his own blood. Healers are exhausted by his antics).

Whether or not it actually works ....no one knows. But those that have done this swear their abilities feel different afterwards, and that the respective giant they met visits them in their sleep during times of need.

The "Best Friend", Nyvor.

Character/Lore Dump:

Nyvor is a well rounded medic that specializes in healing, physical therapy, and antidotes. He is kind nurturing, altruistic, and soft spoken. Though docile by nature, he is extremely protective of his patients and won't hesitate to give others the tongue lashing of the century should they do anything to hinder his patients recovery. Recognized by many as a trustworthy individual, patients tend to confide in him during their hardships.

He is often mistaken for a warrior due to his intimidating presence, but in actuality has taken an oath to never do harm upon others. As a result he cannot nor will not fight offensively. However, he knows self defense (taught by Thresher) and will use it protect himself and his patients when needed. When attacked he'll wrap his tail around his attacker's legs and use it to trip them before fleeing.

As part of his oath he had his venom glands (sea krait genes) removed.

Nyvor's relationship with Thresher:

Nyvor and Thresh have been friends for nearly two decades. Their friendship began immediately after Nyvor moved to Thresh's Domain. Nyvor considers Thresh the most beautiful zora he has ever known, and is deeply in love with him, but views himself as an unworthy mate for Thresh due to their warrior status. Within their Domain courtship with a warrior is declared through combat. If the initiator wins or ties, they are considered worthy of the others attention, and if they lose, the balance is unequal and they are thus unworthy. As a result of Nyvor's oath, and Thresher's prowess, Nyvor knows he could never "win" Thresh's hand in this manner.

He is not aware Thresh returns his feelings, and merely thinks Thresh's teasing and flirtatious nature with him is due to their unwavering bond. He's worried speaking his feelings will impact their friendship, and is mortified over the fact he has nearly revealed his interest a dozen or so times during especially intense interactions.

Post The Event:

Nyvor is not aware Thresh dived after him and subsequently saved his life. Later, while journeying across Hyrule, he becomes aware that Thresh is trying to find him. He believes Thresh has been tasked by their Domain to hunt him down and kill him (the ultimate punishment for surviving), and assumes their Domain won't allow Thresh to return until this task is achieved.

For this reason Nyvor is running from Thresh, and is actively using their terrible sense of direction to his advantage. In truth, Nyvor would willingly give his life over to Thresh, but he knows that if Thresh were to kill him it would shatter Thresh's psyche. And he loves them too much to let that happen.

So the chase continues, and Nyvor runs.

Silvyr Art Dump - Extended lore for them and their Domain below the cut.

Diplomat of Volica and Advisor to the Usurper King, Silvyr is a former captain who aided the current King in dethroning the previous royals and banishing the corrupt council/nobles. They were the strategeist behind the coup.

With the previous council gone, and subsequent shortage of expertise, they duel wield roles to keep the Domain running. Sharp in mind and calculative by nature, they leave nothing to chance.

Volica is currently experiencing a food shortage due to over harvesting of nearby reefs by the former nobles & council, who were exporting all their food for profit. They are thus pursuing trade negotions to secure more food.

The Domain itself is located on a cliff that borders the ocean. With a dormant underwater volcano somewhat nearby to mine from, their Domain is rich in minerals and metallic ores commonly used in the production of weapons/accessories.

Volcano ---> Volica (Domain name is derived from the nearby Volcano, their most valuable resource, and the reason for the Domain's existence, as it was founded by a small group of zoran miners! Mining is the largest profession in the Domain, and is integral to their livelihood. They love that fckin volcano so much.)

History:

The former Lead Captain and strategist of Volica's royal zoran knights and warrior faction. On the battlefield they were a force to be reckoned with, fighting exclusively with ice magic.

With fighting occupations being the least favored in the Domain in terms of enrollment, and the Domain itself in a difficult location to guard (cliff face), Silvyr made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure they could protect their home from land based monster attacks (see Silvyr's Chosen Giant - Lifespan sacrifice).

This resulted in them feeling especially slighted when the zora of Volica began to suffer beneath the corrupt royals/nobles. Nyvor's sentence, Thresh's departure (both of whom were close friends), and the lack of improvement after the corrupt noble was slain (who was initially thought to be the source of the problem), brewed such contempt within Silvyr's heart they began planning the coup.

Ice Magic (Origins):

Silvyr descends from a long line of prideful water magic users. Yet unlike their predecessors, Silvyr struggled during their youth with their abilities. Ever flowing, always changing, the flexibility of understanding required to control water was something Silvyr lacked. This came as a devastating blow to their family.

Yet determined to succeed, they endlessly practiced, pushing themselves to their utmost limits. In an attempt to make the water more structured, they began to fix it in place, unknowingly all the way down to the molecular level, until suddenly, it turned to ice. Thus unlocking ice magic.

Silvyr's Ice magic abilities are dampened when in water, which is why they feel better in underwater environments!

Volica & The Termania Giants:

Many in Volica worship the Giants of Termania. Though Termania is located in a parallel world (per Majora's Mask lore), it is said you can contact the giants during sleep, when the veils between realms are the thinnest. If you sacrifice something of yourself, the giant may grant you amplified abilities. The origins of who brought the legend of the giants to Volica, and the zora who established first contact, is unknown.

Silvyr's Chosen Giant:

Silvyr is favored by the Goron Giant. To protect their Domain, they self sacrificed 100 years of their lifespan to the Giant in exchange for an insane magic amplification.

Side Effects:

Excessive use of powerful ice magic may result in adverse side effects, contact your healer if you experience any of the following: Migraines, muscle aches, lowered body temperature, inability to regulate said body temperature, low sanity episodes, lock jaw, fin cracks, excessive consumption of spicy foods, dizziness, shortened life span, chills-

Nowadays, due to the above side effects, Silvyr only uses ice magic during times of need or for petty retributions (such as freezing the feet of someone that pissed them off to the ground, worth the subsequent headache).

Hand Symbols:

Started using hand symbols during their youth while wielding ice cause they thought it looked cool. Now it genuinely helps them concentrate and they're super embarrassed about it.

Voted Best Cuddler in Volica:

Due to their lowered body temperature Silvyr feels perpetually cold when on land, and (to a lesser degree) in water. As a result they can ALWAYS be found cuddling other zora(s) for warmth while sleeping. Everyone in the Domain loves it, no complaints.

When around strangers, Silvyr will initiate contact with a gentle touch to the arm, silently requesting the others companionship. If accepted, that zora WILL be cuddled till morning.

Additional Facts:

-Overheated zoras fresh from the volcanic mines often seek Silvyr out for a hug cause they feel so cold to the touch. Results in a dog pile (fish pile?) sometimes.

-LOVES spicy food. Will straight up eat a bag of RAW ghost peppers and be completely unbothered.

-Commonly seen wearing a fur lined cloak for warmth when on land.

-Doesn't overly emote unless exasperated, stressed, or during low sanity episodes. Zoras in Volica have an ongoing scoreboard of who has gotten Silvyr to smile the most. Thresh is currently leading (and is very smug about it).

Nyvor and Thresh reuniting and frolicking through the fields, meanwhile their domain on 🔥🔥🔥 as shit goes down. Literally that returning home with pizza to a burning room meme.

Can't decide if they reunite before or after the coup. If before Silvyr hunts them down and is like "Get in the car bitches we are going to overthrow the government."

Nyvor, a pacifist, "We are just going to banish them, right?"

Silvyr, "Banish them...sure-"

Thresh, "If you mean banish them to the afterlife then YES."

(Thresh and Silvyr are close friends. In the past they tried to court, very unsuccessfully. Their failed love affair was a hot topic for awhile, especially since the two remained friends. When asked about it they tell contradicting and bizarre stories on why and how they broke up. In reality it was a very cordial split, but it keeps the Domain entertained.)

Zora #1: I heard Silvyr broke up with Thresh in the volcanic mines and then just left them there! Thresh got lost for TWO days in the tunnels cause they couldn't read the maps!!

Zora #2: *gasp* What! No way! I heard Thresh broke up with Silvyr because Silvyr is, and I quote, "A little shit that doesn't share their food."

A place to store silly zora oc thoughts (Round 2)-

Silvyr is food aggressive, and has been since they were a child. It is advised you do not approach them while they eat because they WILL snarl at you.

Funnily enough due to the famine alot of other zora developed resource defending tendencies, and now their behavior blends right in as a Volca zoran standard.

But Thresh, Thresh knows the truth.

And they mock them endlessly for it.

Thresh: Maybe our courting would have worked if u actually, I dunno-

Silvyr: Don't you dare-

Thresh: SHARED your food with ME-

Silvyr FLINGING everything infront of them off the table so they can throw themselves at Thresh. Being called out is their BIGGEST pet peeve.

(One of Thresh's love languages is sharing food. So they get really insulted when people don't share with them.)

Silvyr, voice dripping with sarcasm: Tongue tied? That's unusual. You're always so eloquent with your words.

Silvyr gained a new scar that day. Thresh continued to surprise attack them for nearly a year straight.

Thinking about how Thresh isn't allowed to drink because they have a tendency to set shit on fire when drunk (including but not limited to: bushes, Silvyr's paperwork, Silvyr's blankets, vases somehow???)

You would think in a place with so much moisture and water that wouldn't be possible but where there is a will there is a way. No one knows how he does it.

POV: You are wandering and happen to spot a drunken Thresh sitting in front of a bundle of sticks rapidly attempting to ignite a fire.

You know that one scene in Scary Movie where Drew Decker is running through some sprinklers and stops to do her little hair flip and over the top sexy posing??

Yeah that's Thresh. Thresh does exactly that whenever it's raining on the training field and Nyvor is around to see. Tail flip and sexy posing and everything.

Silvyr is EXHAUSTED by these antics cause not only does it distract Nyvor from his healing activities, but also everyone else from their training which leads to MORE injuries.
