❝ Has he really? ❞
There's some incredulity in Tibarn's voice. Naesala doesn't have the best track record in actually keeping Reyson safe, of course...but Tibarn suspects that maybe he's being uncharitable. If he can't let Naesala attempt to grow then the raven could stagnate forever and always.
Tibarn huffs though, eyes on Reyson.
❝ You're always too soft on him, you know. Would it be too much if I said it makes me jealous? Not that you love him but that you've known him for as long as you have. ❞
He can confess these things, to Reyson. Even if they're stupid. He knows there's a foolishness in them but he worries about him always. The pancake sizzles in the pan and he flips it over with a flick of the wrist. It soars up into the air and he catches it before it can land anywhere but inside the pan.

@albaccelerando   ( moved from here )
he stares at reyson worriedly until he responds, at which point his shoulders relax. "good. don't rely too much on my handiwork though, you really should go see a proper healer later.“ he gets up from his spot on the ground, briefly wiping his knee off with his hand.
"yes. i've heard some things about you." he nods. there were a surprising amount of people who hadn't seen a heron before (including himself) so he'd heard whispers by the occasional staff member and even student. some talking about how beautiful he was, and some not as... nice. those were the ones he preferred not to think about. "reyson, right?" then, he offers a smile and his hand to shake. "i am sir sigurd of chalphy." he defaults to the polite noble greeting out of habit. "it's nice to meet you, even if this situation isn't exactly ideal."

[+ fix] (sigurd treating reyson's injury)
"and... there." sigurd finishes off the bandage, tying it with a knot. he's not the best at it, but it'll work enough to let reyson avoid the pharmacy for a good few hours at least. it's moments like these that he wished he could heal like his sister, but at least he knew how to dress a wound well enough. kneeled down on the ground to help him work on the wound easier, sigurd looks up at reyson. 'even when they're injured, heron look so beautiful.' he thinks, but he quickly stashes that thought away in his brain. "it's not too tight, is it?"

Tibarn isn't the least bit surprised to hear Naesala had tried to run away. It's all he knows, isn't it? It makes him grit his teeth to see the way Reyson frets and worries. That doesn't matter though, what matters is that Naesala is okay. His bone can be fixed but his heart is likely another story. Tibarn shouldn't interfere with that one...should he?
He doesn't know if he wants to. But the trust between him and Naesala is not something he'd ever deny. To hurt him now would be a sin unforgivable. So he keeps the barbs on his tongue back and doesn't scold him for making Reyson worry for the month he was gone. Doesn't tell him off. Doesn't bring up any of that shit at all.
Naesala's account of the place he went sounds harrowing enough. He doesn't know what any of it means though. It's enough knowing that between the words Naesala says are more that he isn't saying. He can only infer what they mean. Reyson gets up to fetch the supplies he will need and Tibarn nods curtly.
A hand comes to rest between Naesala's wings. He is careful not to put any pressure on the bad one, or the good one for that matter. The palm of his hand presses against Naesala's spine though as if Tibarn is confirming whether or not he is real.
❝ Go. I've got him. You can trust me. ❞

“be careful. don’t overextend yourself.” she warns, watching him stand up to inspect the lock on their prison cage. she does not say anything while he inspects it, allowing him the silence to concentrate.
it is only when he speaks back to her again that she approaches him, standing far closer than before. “a tool, hm.” she hums, looking at the lock herself. if they hadn’t stolen all her belongings, she probably could of used one of the pins she used for her hair to pick it. or maybe they might not have gotten everything on her person…?
she digs through the smaller pocket on her dress, the only place it would be, only to find nothing. they had really taken everything. what barbarians. “if they hadn’t stolen our things…. we have no choice.” she shakes her head in frustration, looking back to reyson. “we’re going to have to catch someone’s attention. they have to have a guard who patrols consistently. “ she crosses her arms, hand on her chin in thought. “if they’re keeping us in a cage like this, they probably want us alive. we might be able to get someone to unlock the door if one of us fakes an illness or an injury.”

heronprinceofserenes:
Reyson squeezed her hand gently, forcing a smile onto his face. He could at least try to help Leanne get adjusted.
“Of course,” he said, starting to lead her down the hallway. “Where do you want to start? Probably just at one side, and we can go across? I don’t have anything else to do today,” he added, his smile becoming more genuine as he walked. “And maybe we can practice your modern tongue while we do. We’ll probably see someone else we know.” He picked up his pace, his wings trailing behind him slightly. She felt his feelings lightening, his anxieties about home shelved away for later. They were at least together now, and Reyson could protect her here.
Everyone was safe, and Reyson intended to keep it that way.

“what!?” her eyes widened in shock as the largest of her allies turned into a bird before her very eyes, swooping in to save her despite her reassurance that she would be okay without them. she shuts one eye, shielding her face with her arm from wind and metal alike as the cage is blasted to smithereens by its— his claw. before she knows it she is brought back to the ground safely— though not without some harm done to her by gofannon’s cutting gales.
an embarrased blush rises on her cheeks as she’s chastised for trying to keep the attention off of her. she really would have been fine stuck inside that cage for a little while. “right. i’m sorry.” she murmurs, gaze going to sylvain as tibarn returns to battle. he too was worried for her.
this was not what she had set out to be for her allies. a smile tugs at her lips anyways as he speaks of his luck in healing. “keep studying and maybe you’ll catch up to me, sylvain.” her mood seems to return to her as the single spell she has in her arsenal calls for use within her mind.
Backup activates! Chrom assists [ -1, Sreng Lancer 9/10HP ] Edain 9/10HP hits Sreng Lancer 9/10HP with Banshee [ Roll: 11 ; 2 + 1 = -3HP ; Sreng Lancer 6/10HP ]
Sreng Lancer is inflicted with Stun!
“i won’t be a burden in this battle from this point onward.” she reassures with a more confident voice as she holds her hand out, casting banshee on the nearest enemy. “everyone, your help please if you would!” she calls out to the student. “he won’t be able to move now thanks to my magic!”

Reyson seems happier. Would it be presumptuous to attribute any part of that to his presence? Tibarn feels like maybe that would be arrogant but he's nothing if not confident in himself. Reyson's smile is something few get to see, though he's thankful that it's less rare than it was two decades ago.
Reyson's smile has a way of soothing the soul. Tibarn can't help but bask in his warmth. It's a heron thing, he knows that they have this effect on many people but that just makes him prouder to be able to be here with Reyson. This is a heron who chooses to spend his days with him, even when he doesn't need Tibarn's protection.
All of this is something he keeps to himself but his heart is open to Reyson always and if the heron dug it would be plain in his feelings.
❝ Your advice is sterling as ever. ❞
He teased him a little but it was something he'd considered as well. Hearing it from someone else definitely serves to validate it.
❝ Your home is beautiful. You know that. When we go back... ❞
His thought ends there. Better not to distract himself or Reyson with thoughts of home right now. There was an obligation toward personal growth that he knew Reyson was working toward. They would both return one day, it wasn't like they were beorc with only a few decades to live their whole lives.
❝ Glad I'm here, too. I don't trust that raven to look after you properly. ❞

Reyson was visibly upset by the circumstances . Tibarn could hardly blame him . Where the kitchens had once apparently been well-stocked , they were now bare of everything except the most meager of essentials . Everything else was going into preparing rations , food that would keep for a long time or over long distances .
Hard tack and dry meat , most likely . Even if Reyson was inclined to try and sneak some rations as food , he likely wouldn't be able to eat any of them .
Tibarn doesn't mind helping with this . If they can make anything at all that the heron could eat , it'll be worth the effort .
He notices what Reyson has found . Dry plums and flour and potatoes can make something decent , he thinks . It doesn't take a master chef to get simple ingredients to work .
❝ Is there any oil or butter left ? We can fry up some simple pancakes . ❞
He starts poking around cupboards himself , but he's a little quieter about it , since he's also listening out in case anyone has a mind to come in . This would surely be an extenuating circumstance , but he didn't want to have to argue that with anyone with authority . It could easily turn into a fight .
❝ Yeah . There's some oil up there . Make sure it's plant-based before we start . ❞

The way Reyson's expression shifts into a smile makes Tibarn smile in return . He doesn't say it out loud because he knows he doesn't need to , but he'd do anything to see that pretty smile . Because of that , he sets to measuring out flour . Without a clear recipe , he isn't sure how good these will turn out , but he'll do his best .
Oil taken from Reyson's hands , he begins to heat that up as he mixes the rest . The unspoken part that he hopes Reyson doesn't notice is the way he's taking all the ingredients himself , so Reyson doesn't need to do anything .
It's fine . He can hunt for himself later . A heron's diet is way more particular , he's learned .
❝ Back home..? ❞
The question isn't surprising . Of course Reyson likely wants to know what's going on , how everyone is .
❝ I'm getting a bit of pushback . Everyone knows I'm a good king in times of strife , but maybe a few people are doubting that I can do it in peacetime . Your father vouches for me , of course , but now every laguz my age and older is trying to give me advice on what to do next . ❞
Tibarn makes a face . He doesn't say this out loud either , but he's here so he can watch the classes some of these nobles are taking , while he teaches them how to fight . A continent without too much strife , at least for now ? Where better to learn ?
He'll return home , confident and triumphant and ready to do what needs to be done next , in peacetime .
❝ Everything is going well otherwise . Serenes is nice , I can see why you'd talk about it like you used to . Everyone's comfortable there , we're sorting out the details ... ❞

( tw: description of injury and bone-breaking )
Oh. There's the request. Tibarn understands it now. He is no healer like Reyson. He cannot even do what the beorc do with their staffs and wands. But break a wing? That he is good at. Fights won against hawks long ago to prove himself a King. Fights won against ravens pillaging in his waters. It would be easy.
Tibarn nods. It isn't something he'd relish doing now. If he'd been asked to do this before he learned the dirty truth of the conditions of Naesala's kingship he'd have been overjoyed at the chance. Now he just feels pity. He keeps that off his face though. He doesn't want Naesala to know he feels this way.
❝ I can do it. ❞
It's an easy declaration. And he can help. Can figure out exactly where the break was and break it again so it can be fixed. Naesala no doubt finds the pain uncomfortable but Tibarn wonders if maybe there's something more. He can't fly away like this can he? Can't hide and brood when he's landbound.
❝ Hold still. ❞
His hands are gentle. Maybe that surprises Naesala maybe it doesn't but they are gentle upon the raven's back as he searches for the break in the wing and finds the exact place where the bones are misaligned. He hopes it isn't too late to salvage it. There's a moment where he caresses just below the wing where it meets the raven's back before he swiftly breaks the bone. It fractures so easily. Hollow bird-bones have always been easy to break, he knows his own wings would be no different if he was in a vulnerable state.

( tw: description of injury and bone-breaking )
Reyson's arrival is sooner than could be anticipated. Tibarn had known Reyson would be coming, of course, but he'd hoped to have the worst of it passed before then.
Not his fault he'd been blindsided by the raven's request. If he'd had more time to prepare he could have set a better time. No matter, Reyson is here now and honestly Tibarn is glad for it. The soothing presence of a heron by his side will make this easier even if Naesala will probably be agitated and embarrassed. The question still needs to be answered. Reyson moves immediately to Naesala's side and Tibarn is glad.
He does not know how to comfort someone who's in pain, especially at his hands. He finally answers the question though.
❝ It's as clean as I can make it. Can your healing magic get it on the mend? Even if it does, I bet he'll still need a lot of rest. ❞
Better than not healing at all. Better than healing wrong. The unnatural angle the wing sits at makes his stomach churn a little. But Reyson will surely see it set to rights with a splint and a song. Tibarn knows how powerful he can be when it comes to these matters. He's seen Reyson restore energy to someone with no will left to fight and has seen him mend battlefield wounds.
Naesala's mind will be a different issue but the body can be restored.
He looked at Naesala.
❝ What happened? Not to the wing but to you. ❞

@reprisalet [ task board: authority +1 ]
edain wakes up in a place unknown to her, with not even the memory of falling asleep.
her head feels fuzzy, her vision just the slightest bit off. the priestess groans quietly, clutching the side of her head as she shuts her eyes for a brief moment of relief. the headache is still there when she opens them, but her vision has gone back to normal.
her heart drops with this new clarity though, her surroundings a far too familiar revisit of her capture in verdane. she doesn't know where she is, but judging from the jail cell bars in front of her, she knows she's stuck here.
for now at least, until she figures something out. she takes a quick sweep of the crudely made cell, her eyes falling upon another in the cell with her. the sight of wings on his back does not quite shock her, if only thanks to the combination of adrenaline running through her veins and his otherwise human look about him.
"hello?" she calls out to the young man collapsed on the ground. she crawls closer and peers down on him, letting out a sigh of relief when she sees his chest rising and falling. she wasn't alone and he was breathing, at least. "can you hear me? are you alright?" her voice calls to him again, just the little bit more louder the second time. he wasn't dead, but it would be bad if he was unconscious...

It is surprising that Naesala comes to him first. Tibarn looks up as the door swings open. Naesala has looked worse, he thinks he can recall, but Tibarn is still surprised to see him looking as bad as he does.
That wing in particular looks atrocious. He eyes it as he comes over. He does not reach out to touch him, he is not Reyson, who takes such liberties for granted. He gets close though.
❝ What could you need my help for? ❞
Again, he is not Reyson. There's incredulity on his face along with a bit of suspicion. But suspicion is his normal state of being and there's a lot to be said for the way it's served him well in his dealings with this particular raven. Even without the suspicion though, there's not really a clear sign of what he could do to help.
He'd been a little worried while Naesala had been gone. Ever since Tibarn had arrived he'd been keeping half an eye on him, to make sure he wasn't up to anything. The time Naesala had been gone, was therefore strange.
❝ Want me to take a look at that wing? ❞

"of course." she nods, moving to stand taller than him so she can properly examine his head. her hands hover over his head, parting his hair to reveal a not too worrying bruise. "this must be from when you fell. don't worry, it'll only be a moment." she reassures with a gentle voice, allowing her faith to gather in her hands and putting herself to work.
how glad she is in this moment that basic faith-based magic does not require staves in this land, for this would not have been possible otherwise. she hums, pulling away as soon as she's satisified with her work.
"we'll get out of here. i promise." edain says with a steadfast expression on her face as she looks down at him— one that turns something a little sheepish. "i have experience getting out of a prison like this, if you'll believe it." sure it was only once, and she had dew and jamke's help back then— but still. something was better than nothing.
"if we can't physically pick a lock or anything like that, i think our best chance out of here is to get someone's attention. trick them into letting us out or stealing their keys… somehow."

"oh, you're alright. thank the lord." edain lets out a breathy sigh of relief as he presses himself to the edge of the prison wall. he hardly looked beat up, but looks could be deceiving. it does not take more than the single question for edain to introduce herself to him.
"my name is edain. i'm a professor at the monastery." she says with an air of normalcy despite the throbbing headache still pounding away at her mind, adjusting the way she sits on the prison floor. "as for how we got here…"
the priestess shuts her eyes, trying to remember what she was last doing before she woke up here with a furrowed brow. "the infirmary and then…" she mutters to herself, trying to order the events of yesterday. words here and there can just barely be made out by human ears. "there was that bar and… i think i came across someone passed out on the road…" she trails off before shaking her head and looking back up at her fellow prisoner.
"i remember stopping to help someone who had drank themself into oblivion, but after that it's all fuzzy." she purses her lips. nothing could be done about her lack of memory, so she turns to what she can do to alleviate the situation. "can i see your head a moment? i might be able to lessen that pain of yours with my faith. i'm a priestess." she offers, hand placed against her chest.
