Baseline: Joy

Life will surprise and shock us in both the best and challenging ways. 

What was true yesterday, may no longer be real today. What is unclear or distorted today, may be our truth tomorrow. 

Wisdom comes from both the highs and the lows, the joy and the pain that this ever-changing life brings.

In the thick of the lows and the pain, I try to remain hopeful, I try to create even the smallest ounce of happiness for myself, even if it's only for a brief moment, to remind me of what joy feels like, to give me energy to keep pushing so I can get back to that feeling as a baseline for how life should feel, for how I want to feel.

If you're currently going through a low or experiencing pain, or life just doesn't look the way you want or need it to, right now, I hope you find the energy to give yourself a slice of happiness. No matter how small, and I hope that bit of happiness gives you exactly what you need to keep going.

ASMR is interesting at the moment. A lot of people are falling back on it to feel less lonely, aleviate depression and anxiety, be part of a group, and to de-stress from our increasingly stressful world at the moment. I like a lot of people in my classes. Even though I was worried because I'm by far the youngest, we all get along alright. What gets to me though is when some of them talk negatively about the younger generations... moreso when its to do with technology and/or social media. I can't agree with their views as a whole. Saying things like they don't think kids know how to communicate properly anymore and saying it makes them vain and turn into cowards with regards to bullying. That people nowadays are on their phones instead of socialising. They communicate in ways you likely do not understand, and they can do so with people from all over the world - instantly. Its also a free platform for expression and somewhere to seek out and find support. Vanity, in a world where most people are made to feel like shit about themselves, isn't such a bad thing in reasonable doses. Celebrate the celebration of people liking how they look! People who bully are cowards if they're behind a screen or their mask. They don't need social media to bully, they're just abusing that platform because they're already cowards. If people want to be distracted they'll find a way to amuse themselves. Yknow what I used to do, and still do sometimes? Draw and write in social environments. Or read. Dunno how many times as a kid I was told not to bring a sketchbook. Or my gameboy. Some people use music - personal mp3 players have been around a while. Why aren't people kicking up a fuss about books or music or drawing or writing or games anymore (as much, with the last one). Oh yeah, cos smartphones and social media are the new television or rock music or computers; new things that scare and confuse older people that the youth enjoy. So it must be bad. Sure, everything in moderation, that's for sure. But please stop acting like people are only just finding new ways to communicate and be entertained. You're missing out on so much in the depths of your judgemental and biased mindset.
