I agree that it's missing the point to want Neige to be 'secretly evil' or dastardly or whatever. I think works that just flip the antagonist and protagonist so now all the 'villain' characters are misunderstood and it was the supposed 'good guys' who were actually doing horrible things the whole time are just playing opposite day in a really uninteresting way, and it's an incredibly boring way to work with the dynamics in twst to me...
I feel like Ever After High did a decent job of playing with the idea a little bit, though the 'evil' characters there are definitely cartoon evil, so it's more on the offspring to be more like 'well, this is what we're being told to do / I don't want to lose my privileged lifestyle / narrative guaranteed happiness by standing up for peers who are being shuffled into this role of eventual ruination based solely on who they're the children of' that can lead them to terrible/selfish actions (Apple White here is my main example, though Snow White here actually IS vain/selfish and her and Raven's mom are in a like.. 'the legacy will live on through our children, old enemy' rivalry thing that idk where the storyline is branching back to with the way they talk about it or what BUT i'm rambling) etc, but in that you have a very apparent/publicly known expectation of a fate/continued story and that is not the case for Twisted Wonderland where (correct me if I'm wrong) narrative control is only speculation at this point, beyond recurring jokes.
Regardless, I don't know Black Butler or whatever writing strengths may have or have not been displayed there when it comes to making characters that appear sweet that way and are 'actually' another way, but I feel like it's just lazy to do it for Neige. Neige isn't supposed to secretly be the actual Evil Queen of the story just because Vil is sympathetic/kind in comparison to the queen. I think if Neige were to be a /harder/ character in any way it would be more believable for it to be something he's pushed to as a result of actions against others he cares about (or doing harm under the assumption he's doing good but that's a different topic), but even in that case I doubt it would be his first resort to act unkindly. If someone hurt say one of the dwarfs, maybe he's like.. nicely reading them for filth and demanding an apology so everyone can be friends, but he's not gonna have them dancing in red-hot iron shoes.
When Pomefiore first came out on the JP server a few years ago, I genuinely thought that Neige's cutesiness was just an act and that he was far darker behind closed doors. But, nope. Turns out that Neige is completely "what you see is what you get", and that really threw me off. I'm not the only one. I'm not the only one. Other fic writers in this fandom like LeaderPinhead have said that they thought the same thing.
While it's fine that Yana never went in that direction, she never did anything with his character either. He's just a cardboard cutout for Vil to sneer at and literally nothing else. It's so bad that Vil ironically is the better Snow White analog. Vil is similar to her personality wise, being hardworking, adaptable, assertive and at times kind. He has plenty of flaws like being overly domineering, being too blunt and harsh among other things, but that's a good thing. Those negative traits only make him feel like a real person and a modern male version of Snow White. Neige's similarities are limited to only his looks. His backstory makes no sense and comes right out of nowhere. (Seriously, why wasn't he and the dwarves taken in by Child Protective Services, if he was a minor in modern times?) That's such a waste to me. Neige is the antagonist of the Pomefiore arc, so there should be more to him than that.
However, if I wrote this story, I would do just that. Make Vil the one based on Snow White and Neige is based on the Evil Queen, being like Maurice Cole from Black Butler.
While I haven't read Black Butler, from what I heard from one of my friends and after watching a summary video of the Public School Arc, Cole is Redmond's helper (not using the manga's term because it's a slur). He has a cutesy demeanor, coming off as courteous and polite. He is beloved in the school. Behind closed doors, he's the worst, and, in all honesty, is like a modern version of the Evil Queen. He's a vain asshole, who hates hard work, and frequently leaves his duties to those beneath him. He is willing to resort to underhanded methods to get what he wants. When someone does something better than him, he will make sure to knock them down.
Why couldn't Neige be more like that? Don't get me wrong. I don't think Neige should've been a copy and paste of that other character. Hell, I would argue that differentiating them is a good thing. Not only to change things up, but according to that same friend, he's boring and lazily written. Plus, I don't see Neige doing one of Cole's despicable actions being ever greenlit by Disney. But I think giving Neige some of those same traits would be a step in the right direction. That way he would have a personality and be an actual threat to Vil.
I have seen a lot of people say similar things about their expectations for Neige actually.
Thank you for your take.
You've made a very thoughtful entry here, and I will leave it mostly for others to read and respond to because I think this is an interesting conversation to be had.
My own thoughts are short, that I definitely like the idea of Neige being more characterized so that he can be more of, you know, a character, but I never really liked the idea of him being secretly nasty. I feel like there's too much stock in the corruption of innocence and really would like to have a character as straightforward and just nice as Snow White was--though to be fair we do have Kalim already so people might not want another character too similar to him. In any case maybe a fun idea would be Vil being paranoid about Neige like "No one of his celebrity is that nice!" and part of his beef with him is being annoyed by the idea that Neige is just that genuine. TWST fails at making much out of that rivalry though. With Yana's writing history for Black Butler and such I don't blame people for thinking there should have been a darker side here.
#I have similar feelings towards Kalim's characterization in that if he did anything#beyond the typical issues he has currently and the oblivious selfishness he displays (without getting into the coping mechanism /#survival aspect) it's probably because he wants to protect someone#though they're on opposite sides of the spectrum to me at the same time bc of the class difference there and I could potentially see it#being difficult for kalim to live in less luxury if it meant doing the right thing but i still think he's capable of it BUT ANYWAYS#i'm rambling again so i'll stop here#twst

I beg ya tell me about your OC Yonal and Snape, I need to know about them.
omg,, my heart is so full rn qwq i didn't really expect anyone would be interested in them so idk where to start DFHFDHJ
Yonal isn't fully fleshed-out yet but I made a post sometime ago about them to kickstart their story and a snippet of their friendship with Snape but I'd like to add a few new info for their lore (I did mention that I'd delve deeper into their friendship) so buckle up!
(I am not well-versed with words so lmk if you'd like me to clarify something! ><)
Their friendship is something these two weren't expecting at all tbh and the fact that they managed to build such a strong foundation is somewhat peculiar to me, in a way that they have the most contrasting personalities that it even clashes from time to time but still having that "homey", cozy feeling about it. Yonal being carefree and chaotic, the type to just "go-with-the-flow", and thinks that the glass is half-full while Severus is completely on the other side of the spectrum, with him looking at everything realistically and pessimistically at the same time. I could describe their relationship as:
Sun and Moon
Yin and Yang
Achilles and Patroclus
Red String of Fate
There's more but they're basically rocking that "opposites attract" typa energy HAHAHA
Yonal is most of the time, if not, completely, unaffected by Severus' attitude but rather he (Yonal goes by he/they!) chooses to respect and understand why Severus is like that and would even offer insight in which Sev would always be taken aback. (Not saying Linx is a dunderhead but he can be quite clueless LOL) I like to think Severus learns to accept Yonal the way he is and even appreciate it (He wouldn't outright admit it tho)
There's a lot of things Yonal and Severus don't particularly agree in but there are a few that allows them to connect with each other like the thirst for knowledge, great interest for the Wizarding World, socks, dead-beat dads, loneliness, and other things that I cannot think at the top of my head rn hehe
Idk if I've mentioned this already but even though Yonal loves being an absolute headache to Severus, he deeply respects that raven-haired mf and wouldn't dare ruin their deeply-rooted friendship in any way. I explained in this post how he's willing to bend his habits for him and it is still true to this day!
What fascinates me about them is that they definitely keep each other grounded in a sense that they have that ability to calm each other's turbulent souls, which opens to a lot of vulnerable moments. Something that both of them don't really allow themselves to be in. I like to think they'd grow closer as they confide with one another. Sometimes, home is a person.
Back in the day, they had underlying feelings with each other but these two dumb mfs didn't want to poke and probe in fear that it might end the bond that they have so they set these emotions aside but it does slip out sometimes teehee! In present times, the old flame ignited on its own and over the course of the time they have together, I think it's safe to say that they'll eventually finally confront these feelings and get it over with. But for now, I'm evil and love to hurt myself so im subjecting them to a slow-burn love (angst included!) <333
There's much more that I want to spew but I think that would be for another time. Honestly, I just want Snape to be happy bc God forbids he have peace in his depressing life
As a treat, here's a silly one I made uwu
#asks#just two lonely people#severus snape#yonal linx#words are not enough to fully express my strong feelings about them therefore i shall draw many more pieces of the two blorbos!#i should give them a ship name lmao#sninx? yonerus? thonking vv much#young snape#dinxdraws#hope this answers you and im sorry that it's hella long qwq#sninx

👀🧠-♥️
hi annie!! thanks so much for stopping by i hope you're doing well 💙
👀: okay so neither of these are 5sos fics but i'll give two different vibes to keep things interesting :)) first off we've got Slitherdale by JombleBoingus which bella read to me out loud after we finished the final season of riverdale and it made me laugh so hard i was actually gasping for air! you don't need any knowledge of riverdale in order to enjoy it so. yeah sdkfjlskdjfljd You're On Your Own, Kid by ohmygodshesinsane which is a heartbreaking marauders-era character study of marlene mckinnon that' just. ohhhh my gosh so heartbreaking and so good and really struck a cord with me in how it talks about relationships and i just. i don't even usually read marauders-era stuff (or much hp fic in general) but this was very well done.
🧠: okay i don't know how long a ramble this is going to be but i am currently entrapped by the television show of all time, aka riverdale and i'm just sorta gonna word vomit about it a little bit so um. yeah you are under no obligation to read this. putting it under a cut bc. yeah. i'm crazy i'm a crazy person do you see me writing my own speech patterns into tumblr posts that's crazy sdkljflkdjs
OKAY so currently thinking about how jughead claims that he and veronica are supposed to be foils to archie and betty which like, on one hand kinda, but on the other hand not really i feel like they're more, not foils exactly but two sides of the same coin but different? i'm missing a word but whatever that is for each other. while archie and betty are both solidly middle class, jughead and veronica are on the extreme opposite ends of the spectrum, with veronica being pretty wealthy and jughead being from the "wrong side of the tracks". jughead is homeless in season one (and seems to have been living that way for a while) while veronica has just been "displaced" since most of her family's wealth has been seized since her father was arrested for embezzlement. in season one she tries to comfort ethel, whose parents are worried they're going to lose their house due to money troubles, by saying that she knows what it's like to lose a home even though the conversation is taking place in the dining area of her penthouse/fancy apartment. she does kinda try to relate to jughead this way as well but not as explicitly (possibly bc she knows he'll call bullshit) HOWEVER despite the fact that it seems like veronica and jughead's living situations couldn't be more different, in the final season (spoiler alert) veronica gets locked out of her parent's flat and is forced to live in the movie theater where she works just like how jughead lived at the drive- movie theater *he* worked at in the very first episode!!! (obvs there are still key differences since veronica owns the movie theater but my point still stands) continuing to compare s7 veronica with episode 1 jughead, while in the beginning jughead's parents were the absent ones with his mother and sister in another state and his dad an alcoholic gang member, in s7 veronica's parents are now absent as they've sent her to riverdale to live by herself despite the fact that's only fifteen or sixteen. they've both been put in positions where the adults in their life expect them to be fully self-sufficient while still in high school and don't even bother to check in regularly to make sure they're actually doing okay. then there's their belief that their respective besties are much better, more perfect people than they are, despite the really obvious signs that they aren't perfect (archie's vigilante complex, "dark betty", etc) but there's the difference in how they handle those feelings, with jughead mythologizing archie to the point that he warps reality around this fact while continuing to view himself as an outsider in archie's life, while meanwhile veronica spends much of season 1 trying to deserve to be betty's friend by becoming a better person and eventually (spoiler alert) falls in love with her in s7 and AAAAAAA there are so many more parallels and/or juxtapositions btwn these two but i'm gonna shut up now thank you for your time.
#i applied to eleven different trader joes locations only for them to say in their emails that they might not get back to me for at least 3#weeks the bastards#oh well war is hell etc etc#thank you for indulging me annie ksdjfkldjs#answering mail#annie#i feel like i should tag riverdale sklfdjlkdjfklsdj

PLEASE write a camp counselor au. also sorry for keeping sending asks this is too much fun!!
imagine dustin roping them all into working at camp knowhere though!!! you're completely correct about everything tbh. dustin is obviously well known because he's definitely went every single year since he was 12, the older kids know him and so do the older counselors. he's the perfect storm between responsible and HEY KIDS WANNA SEE SOMETHING EXPLODE? lucas is the biggest sweetheart counselor and he's super popular for the obvious reasons (i mean come on he's lucas sinclair). max is cool and aloof and she skateboards and is the coolest person on the planet (popular but on the opposite end of the spectrum. she's also a big sweetheart but she will not hesitate to threaten kids not to talk about it and ruin her Cool Teen Reputation).
will is good at his job because. look at him in season 4. he was literally created to be an older brother. he's nice and nurturing but also the biggest shithead ("is that why you have no friends?") which is a huge part of his appeal. he's sweet but then he'll say something super sarcastic and kids will be left baffled.
mike and el are popular for the same reasons. they're a huge mess. mike is literally a sentient pile of twigs that someone gave a shakespeare anthology to once. he's 90% limb. but also he's super smart, so like, he gets cool points there. el is, like you said, extremely strange (affectionate) and thus extremely fascinating to be around. kids are gossiping that maybe she's like, magic or something.
exactly!! you pegged dustin to a T, they would all see him as The King Of Know Where, and kids are always bothering him asking him science questions cause he just knows everything. lucas is the counselor everyone has a crush on. you either like him or want to be him, and you can't even hate him out of jealousy bc he's too nice. and ykw fuck it im saying camp know where is in michigan and they take a beach trip and lucas and max are the cool lifeguards in charge of keeping the kids alive. max takes no shit from the kids. "nerds, lights out was ten minutes ago. get your asses to sleep." they think she's super cool cause she curses. she can also do card tricks (which she only does in the cabin and makes them swear not to tell anyone) and knows all the best camp songs. her cabin always wins challenges, though el's cabin puts up a good fight through the power of sheer chaos. her cabin and will's gets partnered a lot cause their tables in mess are near each other, and its always so much fun. they always kill at volleyball for some reason. i think it takes will a little bit of time to get confident telling the kids what to do and acting as an authority figure, and he's nervous at first, but once he gets his footing he's such a great counselor. "cmon...casey... you can't eat that." everyone thinks he's super nice, until someone catches him teasing mike. thus the rumor that mike and will hate each other is born, and obviously everyone takes will's side bc will is a sweetheart and mike what the fuck did you do? like you said, mike is super smart, but i also think he's a little pathetic and has a hard time getting the kids to respect him. his and will's cabins are partnered for arts and crafts one day and mike is having difficulty getting his kids to settle down. will steps in and is like, "guys, come on. let's chill out, okay? listen to mike," and they go quiet. mike's jaw is on the floor, cause they actually start listening to him after that. well. until arts and crafts is over, at which point they start tormenting him again.
i have so many more thoughts on this, this is insane.
ask me anything!

hey! another rika and vanderwood enjoyer :-D! i love the semi-realistic way you draw MM characters (which is to say is an art style that is rarely ever seen in this fandom, unfortunately)! may i ask what are your thoughts on the other MM characters and/or their respective routes--or, instead, if that's alright w/ you, could you share more of your CMC Jake Park? so far, i'm interested in Bleeding Paint and I can't wait to see more of it :-)!
Anon I am kicking my legs around in my bed hugging my pillow like a schoolgirl bc this is the first ask I've gotten in this sideblog and it is literally so sweet and I'm so excited to have gotten it
Because of that you will have to endure me discussing every single topic you brought up in great detail
1. So glad to hear from another Rika and Vanderwood enjoyer. I get pretty self-conscious about liking Rika because of all the negativity, but the truth is that she's a major comfort character for me. When I realized what she meant with all of her talk about darkness after therapy one night I cried for hours LMAO it was a major milestone in my mental health journey.
And that event is actually what made me start writing bleeding paint, AND this is the part where I tell you that if you like Rika and Vanderwood, the good news is that they're the two love interests in the fic. But the bad news is that Rika and Jake's relationship is Extremely toxic. Radioactive. But the good news again is that with Vanderwood, it's the opposite.
2. Thank you for complimenting my art style :)) If my different background means I'm bringing something new to the table, then I'm ecstatic to provide.
3. My opinions on the other characters are!! Difficult to word, because until a couple months ago I hadn't played since Ray's route came out, and this year I've only replayed another story and Seven's route. I'll try my best to give you a summary, though.
Zen and Yoosung: my B plot KINGS. Where would I be without you. Adorable brotherly dynamic. A much needed wholesome break from all the angst. I would die for you.
Jaehee: her role as the Straight Man is executed extraordinarily, in my opinion, because of how often she's just tired. It's so realistic and it makes you feel for her so much. But when she's something else instead of tired, she absolutely slays, it really sticks out. AND I would like to say I think the way her voice changes when she starts fangirling about musicals is ADORABLE. I've been in love with this woman since I was 17.
Jumin: I HAVE THE MOST CONFLICTING FEELINGS ABT HIM OUT OF ANYONE ELSE. Okay stay with me for this one but I'm a hardcore anarco-communist. Which means there are multiple points in the game where, if he were in front of me, I would grab him by the neck and shake him like in that Simpsons bit. Shut up about the free market shut up about the free market. He's so privileged and his lack of empathy means he only alienates himself further and further. So on one side I feel extreme frustration and anger towards him. Then on the other, the emotional maturity of this character is unparalleled. He is, like, completely actualized. On top of Maslow's entire shit. While in Another Story, some of his dialogue has been having me awestruck. I think that IRL, Jumin and I would have the kind of dynamic where we would be able to talk until 3 AM and not realize it. So yeah man I don't know. He's on both sides of the love and hate spectrum for me at the same time.
707: what can I tell you about my bestest boy in the whole world? I would not change a thing about him. He can have my entire house and life and hand in marriage.
V: in my opinion. Okay look. God. I don't have any strong *feelings* about V. But I have very strong opinions.
If you asked me to list any other characters who display the level of emotional complexity his guy has going on, I'd have very few examples.
But the execution of the concept falls short for me.
How many days does the game have in total? Think about it: He's the MOST STUBBORN FRUSTRATING MAN TO DEAL WITH IN THE WHOLE WORLD for ALL but 3 of them, the 3 days at the end of his route. He's a goddamn broken record. Furthermore, his route is so focused on the backstory MC wasn't there for, that it forgets to tell you why you two should feel a bond at all.
It's hard for me to suspend my disbelief and look past all that to enjoy the potential he had.
Saeran: SE Saeran is one of my faves :)) he's not my type in his route, but his portrayal of mental illness matters a lot to me. I have talked to my therapist about Saeran.
4: IT'S JAKE TIME - GET ABSOLUTELY SILLY
Where can I start with Jake William Park. Well first off, he's a bitch. Second off, he had his bisexual awakening in a sasunaru forum post at age 12. Third off. See that picture? He has a septum gauge and, while shitfaced one night, put a silly straw in it. He then couldn't get it out, had a panic attack, and ended up in the hospital.
He was born in Canada. When he was 8, his parents got divorced and his dad moved back to Korea while he stayed. Now he's in Korea as an exchange student for his senior undergrad year.
He's a literature major. He's Extremely pretentious about art. He has a cat named Rodya (nicknamed Rascalnikov). He dabbles in writing horror, but is mainly aiming at becoming a professor.
His superiority complex is his most annoying flaw. He thinks he's so smart and his taste is the only correct one and he's a different grade of human being from most people. He can be mean about it (he bullies Yoosung).
The meanness ties into another flaw of his, which is that he thinks showing emotion is a weakness.
His first version was much goofier and careless and dressed a little bit differently. In Another Story, he becomes what I've come to refer to as Traumajake. The kidnapping and cult stuff really gets to him, he's almost killed or cleansed. And he decides that, if Rika wants a boytoy, then he will be the perfect boytoy until he can get out alive. He pretends to develop Stockholm syndrome - but he's not every worried about it, because he's FAR too smart to develop it for real. Right? Hilarity ensues.
By the time he's rescued, half of him doesn't even want to be. For the rest of the fic, he struggles to find a balance between emotion and reason.
There's a lot I'm leaving out, but this is already far too long and I doubt anyone will read it LMAO
5. I appreciate you mentioning Bleeding Paint a lot!! I have no evidence anyone ever read it and sometimes it makes me embarassed to keep posting sjdaskdjkjds but if just one person has given it their time of day, that's good enough for me :))
Tysm for the ask.
