Challenge time!!!
Just for fun I've decided to participate in @caramelcuppaccino's 20 day language learning challenge!
Day 1: Which languages can you speak besides your native language?
The only language I can fully claim to speak beside my native language of English is French, which I can speak at a bout a C1 level thanks to being in a French Immersion program (in my experience, pretty common in Canadian cities,) living in France for a year, and going on an exchange program in the French-speaking region of Switzerland (incredibly grateful for all these opportunities ❤️)
I've also been learning Mandarin for about 3 years now which I can speak at about an HSK3/B1 (approximately) level, though I never actually speak with people out loud so I hesitate to say I can actually speak it...
One of my heritage languages which I've been more serious about in these past couple years is Urdu which I am learning from scratch as I did not grow up with it. I'm not that bad at forming sentences honestly but it's hard to judge my level because especially in urban Pakistan people use English words all the time and it's hard to tell when to use the English word and when ot use the Urdu word. It's still tough for me to carry a conversation though so I would place myself at about A2.
And the last language I can have some credibility to say I can speak is Italian which I've been learning with various levels of seriousness over the past year or so which I'd say I can speak about an A2 level, though I can understand more than I can speak because of all the French cognates.
