Ninth entry: Exhausting nights.
Waking up earlier and sleeping later. The exhaustion catches up to you fast. Of course, a few hours of sleep can replenish the energies just fine…if you can sleep peacefully.
Ever since Liam became Violet’s shadow, general meetings in Xaden’s room were moved to at least an hour later than usual - to everyone’s annoyance. That night would not be any different.
After making sure Violet entered her warded room, Liam finally took a well deserved shower and decided to rest for a few minutes. The events of the night set an uncomfortable weight on his shoulders, a mocking proof of everything Liam was trying to avoid. The feeling of self doubt was brewing inside him and shame settled on his stomach, he did not have time for any of that but there was nothing rational about emotions.
That doesn’t mean you can’t hurt me.
Violet’s words still rattled in his mind. No matter how subtly - or not so much - Liam tried to convince her that Xaden cared, only his brother could be the one to actually build trust. And no matter how hard Liam tried to push Xaden towards Violet, only she would be able to slither through the iron walls he built throughout the years.
But Xaden was convinced distance was the only answer and Violet was too busy trying to survive the next challenges.
The devilish eyes Barlowe sent her haunted Liam more than he cared to admit. He knew the man stood no chance against him or Xaden, but the pure hatred in that motherfucker’s eyes could not be forgotten. That would be a problem, a real one. Liam considered for a moment if he could challenge Jack since killing him on the mat would be within Codex. He would have to ask Emetterio for the challenge.
And Xaden…Liam had honestly lost hope. His brother was making a mistake like no other and it could cost Violet’s loyalty. Liam was ready to put his hand on fire to prove she would join their cause, but he also knew the woman enough to understand how detrimental hiding the truth would be. Hiding the real threat beyond the wards, the deal with her mother, hiding Brennan Sorrengail. If someone had hidden Sloane from him after years of mourning…he would be fucking pissed.
Liam shook his head, looking for his pocket knife and block of wood. His emotions were all over the fucking place.
“Liam”
The voice startled him, the shame now bubbling through his face at the startle. He was distracted. Liam bolted to open his chambers' door immediately.
“Bodhi?”
The man was leaning beside his door, hair damp and dressed in night clothes, though he was likely ready to head to the meeting. Fuck, Liam was supposed to report before everyone else showed up. He motioned to leave the room, but Bodhi pressed a hand on his shoulder.
“Xaden canceled the meeting and also your reporting. Don’t ask me why, he did not explain”
Liam frowned at that. It was odd for Xaden to just cancel a meeting out of nowhere, and even more strange for him not to demand for a full report on Violet.
“Good news is that we get some blessed sleep, Mairi” Bodhi joked.
Maybe being Xaden’s cousin probably meant that sleep deprivation was a part of their blood, considering Bodhi seemed to be on the verge of collapsing. His dark circles were prominent and the shoulders were slumped, a mirrored image of his cousin indeed.
“Thanks” Liam replied “get some sleep”
He clasped Liam’s shoulder, bidding him a quiet goodbye. He watched as Bodhi disappeared to the next corridor, leaving Liam alone in the hallway. He was about to close his door and have a deserved sleep when the door next to his opened quickly, revealing his favorite ward.
“Violet?”
Liam frowned at the sight of her, his farsight more than capable of catching changes in her appearance. Her eyes, normally a very pale shade, were almost completely black. Her pupils had been just as dilated earlier that night but in that moment they were taking over all the expansion of her amber-blue hue.
Tairn.
He thought she had it under control, she was able to do so back in the gym.
“You all right?” he asked again once her silence did not break.
Her eyes quickly focused on him. She already had a frightening stare normally, but it was ten times worse in that state…and Liam was fucking uncomfortable.
“Are you sleeping in the hallway?” her voice is strained.
Deigh, is there something we can do?
Not necessarily. It’s her dragon’s emotions, her burden.
Yes, but…she looks strange.
“No” Liam replied to her “Just hanging out here before turning in”
She assessed him, in a more animalistic version of their first real interaction months ago. Her eyes were rapidly moving over his frame…as if she was considering him prey.
Liam shivered. What the fuck was Tairn sending her?
“Why are you looking at me like that?” he asked, pocket knife and block of wood long forgotten in his hand.
“Like what?” she said, but her mind was clearly not present.
Like she wanted to eat him or something.
“Like…Like something’s going on. You don’t look like you feel—you know—like yourself”
His words seemed to hold some effect since the pale shade of her eyes grew a little, pupil fluttering like a cat adjusting their sight. Her focus less animalistic and a hint of panic spread through her features.
“I’m good! Go to bed!” she managed to grunt, closing the door forcefully.
Liam stood there for a few minutes, not a single clue of what just happened. All he knew was that Violet had been overtaken by Tairn’s emotions again…but that particular time it did not seem to be rage that overcame her. He tried to remember if Deigh had ever sent anything other than anger through him, but with no success within his memories.
Do we all look that creepy when dragon’s send unsolicited emotions?
We do have a tendency of heightening your instincts, physically and mentally. Deigh answered.
He knocked on her door, too worried to just leave her there to deal with it on her own, but she did not answer.
The little woman is safe now and you cannot run to her aid whenever Tairn overpowers her senses. Deigh’s voice rumbled inside his head, slightly irritated.
It feels wrong to just let her be. She would have helped me!
Were you not the one who promised to trust her judgment? And we shall admit you would not accept her gesture of help anymore than she would.
Deigh was not necessarily wrong. There was scarcely anything someone could do to bring Liam back from Deigh’s rage. Violet was able to separate herself from Tairn before, he had to trust she would be able to do it again. Besides, whatever that was, Liam never wanted to experience being on the receiving end. He was still shivering while closing his door, deciding that he would deal with that in the morning, after a few hours of peaceful sleep.
Though sleep was far from peaceful.
Liam had grown used to the night terrors after five years living the same flashes over and over again. He was used to how the relic burned in sync with Codagh scorching his mother in a disturbing repetitive cycle, his heart gutting at the memory of the lifeless eyes of his father, the stabbing guilt as he witnessed - for the millionth time - Sloane’s crying features as leadership ripped her out of Liam’s arms.
That night though, his nightmares learned a new face. The body that it belonged to resting on his lap, the pale familiar face with pale eyes staring at him. Liam frowned as he watched her lips move silently, mouthing the same words over and over again. Wetness stained his left hand resting on her stomach, the horror settling as the red liquid seeped through her armor.
It’s too late. It’s too late. It’s too late.
A familiar laughter called his attention. Laying on his back was Jack Barlowe, throat slit - though the wound did not seem to bother him. The fucker stood, towering over Liam and laughing quietly, a bloody knife on his hands. Liam looked at Violet once more, but it was not her face staring back.
It was Xaden’s.
Liam gasped into the early morning. The room was bathed in the blue shade announcing dawn. He continued to breathe rapidly, pumping air into his lungs and forcing his heart to beat slower. Sitting on the bed, Liam tried to shake the nightmare off of his memory before it consumed and distracted him from his duties. No good in letting the cruel images his consciousness conjured haunt him throughout the day.
The mind is a formidable enemy, do not yield to it. Deigh whispered into his mind.
Did I wake you with?…you know, Liam asked
Your panic did, though I suppose nothing can be done about such involuntary behavior.
Sorry nonetheless, he tried.
Deigh did not reply, but he could feel the comfort through the bond. The dragon was not one for comfort, but he was a strong anchor whenever Liam seemed to wander. He sent a wave of gratefulness back to the dragon, impulsed by the interaction enough to leave the bed and prepare for the day. By the luminosity of the room, it was nearly time to leave for the archives. Liam dressed quickly, making sure to slide his latest finished sculpture in his breast pocket. Buttoning the shirt of his uniform, he slipped outside of the room, already hearing Violet’s door open.
“Good morning” he greeted, swallowing at the flash of the nightmare.
He focused on Violet’s face, finding her thankfully pale eyes full of life. There were dark shadows under them and he grimaced at the thought she might have had a terrible night dealing with Tairn’s emotions once again. He felt guilty, maybe he should have insisted in helping her.
“Good morning” she whispered, a shy smile on her lips.
“Are you feeling better?” he asked.
She nodded, but her eyes did not meet his.
“Violet” he began “I’m sorry, I should have helped you-”
“No!” she blurted louder than advised considering there were cadets sleeping around them.
Liam startled at her tone, eyes blinking.
“Sorry” she whispered again “just don’t worry, ok? There was nothing you could have done anyways, and you already do too much”
“Did you get angry again?”
She sighed, heading to the quadrant’s library to retrieve the cart. Liam followed her, but his eyes never left her face. Violet looked at him through her peripheral vision, pale cheeks flushing a deep red - to his utter confusion.
“Not really, Liam, but I ‘m also not comfortable talking about it” she muttered “just know that I got it under control really quick, don’t worry”
He nodded, not very happy about being left unaware of something, but it was probably the irony of life considering he kept worse secrets from her.
“You seem…unwell” she told him after they retrieved the cart, beginning their journey to the archives.
Her eyes focused on him completely and he had to look ahead to avoid comparing her face to the one of his nightmare. She was alive and well.
“Way to make a man feel desired” he teased.
He took the cart from her hands, allowing his hands to be occupied to hide their trembling. He was too on edge to carve anything - and the figurine was complete anyways.
“Trouble sleeping?” she asked.
He nodded, no point in lying. That was a truth he could tell her without Xaden’s nonsense. He was not comfortable talking about the contents of his nightmare though, nor would Violet be happy knowing she was indirectly the cause of his troubled sleep.
“Standard nightmares” he simply replied “I got used to it, but sometimes I wished I had a break”
Violet’s eyes continued their assessment of him, at least she was staring at Liam humanly that time.
“I know some concoctions that may help” she replied “the ones that just knock you the fuck out”
He chuckled slightly at her suggestions. He did not like sleep aid drugs, but maybe he could use one to recover for a night or two.
“I’ll take the offer” he said “though I do have some resistance to sleeping draughts”
She snorted.
“Believe me, I know drug resistance better than anyone. I’ll get you something that puts me to sleep whenever my body flares too much”
He laughed out loud.
“I’ll probably sleep for days then”
She chuckled and he felt some of the tension dissipate from his shoulders, the remnants of the nightmare were a dim light in his head.

Twisted Wonderland Headcanons Heartslabyul + Che'nya
I finally have the time to do this post. I've wanted to do this one for a while but life and other stuff got in the way. So... Yeah! All character art used is by me, headcanons may have some basis on friends hcs I like, but overall its very much what I think. More under the cut.
Riddle Rosehearts
Mixed Asian and Latino (if in our world);
has eyebags and moles on his face but hides it with makeup as best as he can;
Red undertone skin, very rosy;
Everything about his appearance is kept pristine and proper. His hair is always combed, his nails are manicured, no body or facial hair, etc;
Probably has undiagnosed autism;
So sheltered from the real world, he has trouble keeping real conversations without overanalyzing everything being said or bringing up the Queen of Hearts rules;
Is not allowed to hold hands because his mom thought that would mean he was gonna skip studies to date. (He "accidentally" forgot about that on NRC);
Tries to keep in contact with Che'nya while on NRC but is afraid of messing things up, especially after his overblot;
Cares more for Deuce and Ace than he lets himself show. secretly defends them during housewarden meetings.
Gender Non Conforming, He/they/xe;
Biromantic Asexual.
Has had a tiny crush on Trey before.
Trey Clover
Blasian;
Strongman body type but less intense;
Softest body around, Heratslabyul Sleepover human pillow;
His hands are a bit rough from dealing with cooking and the occasional kitchen accident;
Always smells of pies. Even when he didn't make any. It's his natural scent;
Is farsighted;
He has 3 glasses with different frames, for different occasions, but only uses the same pair because black goes with anything;
Suffers the "M'lady" and "erm actually" jokes from Cater and Ace;
Still keeps in touch with Che'nya, they text sometimes and during summer break Trey sends baked goods for Che'nya to share with his grandpa;
Claims he is a normal dude but can make any recipe if he read how to make it once before;
Knows how to help during panic attacks and sensory crises due to his siblings needing him before;
Cis man, He/him;
Pansexual.
Has received more love letters than any other Heartslabyul dorm member.
Cater Diamond
Token white friend/j
anyway yeah, he is the whitest person from the Heartslabyul cast IMO
a bean of a boy
wakes up way earlier than the others to do skin care routines trending on Magicam
If something is trendy and isn't too expensive, he is buying and wearing it till the trend ends.
barely passing grades, but still passing.
has had an off with your head for almost failing sometimes, but Riddle had to just accept Cater is not the brightest academically.
if he could, he would pay double to get more piercings but Riddle would probably actually chop his head off for that.
Social butterfly, but heavy impostor syndrome.
has hidden eyebags with makeup before from spending hours doom-scrolling on his phone
Has a crush on Trey but is too afraid of rejection to make a move.
Bigender He/they
Bisexual
flirts with people by accident sometimes.
Ace Trappola
mixed asian and white
besides being mixed, he is the token white guy of the group.
basic af, will crumble if u give him spicy food.
way too comfortable with flirting with Deuce for everyone to think they r just friends.
his brother pierced his ears and they both got scolded (Ace was 12)
way richer than he think he is, can buy really nice stuff without batting an eye and doesn't realize it. Not on Kalim's level, though.
Every week Ace has his head offed by Riddle in some form of way. Sometimes will drag Grim with him on these.
is afraid of thunderstorms and will not admit it.
Cater's protected child, they both do chaos together.
Cis man, he/him.
Omnisexual with female preference
even tho his real preference seems to be Deuce.
Deuce Spade
Asian.
probably autistic, but no one notices cuz he hits the not-noticeable aspects of the spectrum.
Asks for tutoring from Trey, since he is low-key very high-key afraid of Riddle's scoldings
Half of the time on Track and Fiel club turns into hype sessions
If Ace wasn't his closest friend at NRC with Yuu and Grim, it would be Epel
His mom sent him his old jackets so he would feel at home in school. Ace uses them and fakes being a delinquent.
While Ace is protected by Cater, Deuce is protected by Trey. The duality of men.
Helps whoever he can during PE classes, he wants to be seen as reliable like Trey.
Trans man, he/him
Bisexual, no preference.
Doesn't get why people think he and Ace are a couple.
BONUS: Che'Nya
Blasian + Vitiligo
Has Discalculy
They were supposed to be a regular white cat beastman, but they dyed their fur for funsies
Loves arts and crafts, and their pants were embroidered by themself.
Their grandpa taught them arts and crafts.
No one knows why they are in RSA and not NRC, Trey says he thinks they got an invitation from NRC first and a RSA after they rejected NRC, but is not sure.
Uses their magic all the time, and find loopholes to say they can use their magic.
Doesn't hang with the popular kids at RSA, but has a little group of friends.
Texts Trey all the time they can, mostly to share Magicam memes.
They have a planner of dates they will try crashing unbirthday parties at NRC. Only started this after Riddle became a housewarden.
No teacher calls them by their name, it is either their nickname Che'nya or Pinka.
Genderfluid They/it/xe/nya
Omnisexual with a preference for masc leaning.
No one knows how they have not been expelled from how much they sneak around and poke and prod at what they shouldn't.

I'm always baffled by people who critize Mass Effect, of all things, as being like, super stereotyping about the various species, because...
That's the exact opposite of the experience I got? Like, with the possible exception of Mordin Solus (and even he is more nuanced), every alien crewmate you get in the Trilogy - and I'm pretty sure in Andromeda, though I never got around to finishing that and I really should one of these days - to one extent or another does not represent the stereotypes of their species. Usually the exact opposite.
Which, given the limited amount of space and time the game actually has to show us all this, is a pretty clear indication by them that 'the stereotypes are just that' - i.e. stereotypes, not categorically accurate.
Wrex and Grunt certainly have some conventionally seen Krogan traits, but neither of them are simple thuggy brutes who kill for the sake of it or anything close. They're both complicated, nuanced people who are capable of being farsighted, who run the exact opposite as Krogan are seen as by many non-Krogan.
Liara is a Doctor when most Asari her age are 'supposed' to be running around dancing and mercing and having wild sex. She's shy, and if not a virgin in ME1, damn close. She's a huge intorvert in a species that's stereotyped the exact opposite.
Likewise, Samara is a tightly controlled, zealous warrior with no real sense of diplomacy, against a species that is usually cast as loose, lax, sometimes flippant and irreverent (the Goddess is not actually that commonly worshipped by Asari anymore) and certainly more interested in subtlety and going along to get along (remember that Cop who had the issue with Samara and was like 'this isn't Asari space and she's a wrecking ball' or whatever).
Garrus explicitly says he's 'a bad Turian', and he repeatedly shows that he runs counter to those typical 'Turians are all militaristic and hiercharcical and follow orders and like rules and systems'
Tali is the first Quarian in 300 years to make friends with a Geth and she seems to be actively xenophilic (I don't mean in a sexual sense, though that too, but more in a 'she likes outside culture stuff a lot' which appears to run a bit counter to the insularity of Quarian culture).
And these are just the big picture examples - we see in other ways, at smaller times, Krogan and Asari and Turians and Quarians and Volus and even Salarians (though I do think they get a bit of a short end here) that don't match up to the stereotypes we're given in the codexes.
Batarians - yeah, there's not much there. They got shafted on this front all around, I'll admit.
Far from being some horribly racist, stereotyping game, I'd argue that one of the great things about Mass Effect is that it spends just about as much time undermining the stereotypes as it does establishing them, overall - it's not perfect, not by any stretch, but still.
Some people just want to be angry about shit, I swear.

the covenant (2006) - caleb danvers
big thanks to @astral-athame, who helped me tremendously with this guy's portrayal via her lovely OC Cassia Keller!
Full Name: Caleb William Danvers
Age: 35 as of Jan. 2023 (born Sept. 9, 1988)
Gender/Sex: cis-male
Sexuality: Bisexual
Ethnicity: White (English & Irish descent on his father's side, English on his mother's)
Appearance (FC: Steven Strait)
Caleb is a young man who stands at 6'2" (1.88 m). His light skin doesn't tan or burn easily. He maintains a toned frame. He inherited his mother's straight black hair & bright smile, in addition to his father's warm brown eyes. His clothing aesthetic is simple in his younger years, with him often throwing coats over a t-shirt & jeans. As he gets older, his profession requires him to dress formally, so his casual style is affected; he begins wearing flannels & long-sleeved shirts under sweaters & nice coats, as he feels encouraged to do so. He also goes from wearing contacts to glasses (he's farsighted) & he allows himself to grow some neatly-trimmed scruff.
Personality (tw: mental illness)
Caleb is a stereotypical Virgo, more or less: modest, hardworking, observant, intelligent, reliable, worrying & perfectionistic. People are drawn to his incredibly kind nature. He's a true friend who isn't afraid to stand up for others, even if he hardly knows the person who needs his help. Caleb puts 100% into everything he does, which means that he's a badass at what he loves, but it also means that (in his case) he struggles with Generalized Anxiety Disorder. He's taken medication for it since he was a teen. Part of his anxiety definitely has to do with his family & friends, who he constantly tries to keep safe & happy. Caleb's worst trait is probably his stubborn streak; though it helps him persevere, he has trouble admitting when he's wrong & if he's suspicious of someone, he won't accept them into her inner circle. Though some in town aren't aware that he's bisexual, he's never actually been closeted. He just doesn't put it out there unless asked about it. Caleb might have one-night stands if he's lonely, but he prefers steady relationships (monogamous or polygamous). He only drinks alcohol if he's in an extreme depression & avoids it otherwise, due to his mother's condition.
History
Caleb was born to Evelyn & William (the III) Danvers, who had a decently sized fortune as a result of their family's past helping found their town of Ipswich. He was soon joined by his three friends Pogue, Reid & Tyler, who were also children of the founding families; all were dubbed the Sons of Ipswich. They did everything together, including inherit their share of the Power, the magical abilities that the oldest son of each founding family gets upon turning 13. By this time, Caleb had discovered his love for swimming, his crush on his best friend (Pogue) & his academic ability. Unfortunately, he was also old enough to notice both his father's declining health & his mother's resulting alcoholism. He tried to take care of his parents while maintaining a vibrant social life & making a path to Harvard Law. Caleb managed, but before he turned 18 his father would be moved to the groundskeeper's home, as the man required 24-hr care. Only a year after, he'd meet Sarah Wenham & Chase Collins. While dating Sarah, he was surprised to learn that Chase not only had a crush on him, but that Chase also wielded the Power & was out to steal it from Caleb & his friends after killing them. After a duel, Caleb ended up with his father's Power (as the older man sacrificed himself). Chase was nowhere to be found. Caleb would end up with nightmares & serious PTSD stemming from that event. However, he successfully got into Harvard & became a prosecutor years later, all while still friends with the boys from his childhood.
Powers/Abilities
Telekinesis - he uses it to lift objects or enhance his strength
Pyrokinesis - this is his elemental specialty; the others manipulate Water (Pogue), Air (Reid), Earth (Tyler) & Psyche (Chase)
Teleportation - it's more difficult over greater distances
Sensing - he can sense when the Sons use the Power
Skills/Hobbies
swimming - his high school team went to regionals
cooking - he learned from the former maid, to take care of his mom when she would check out or be unconscious for a while
reading - he enjoys older mysteries & adventure novels
playing with his dog - he has a Golden Retriever, Shasta
languages - he knows English, Spanish & some Latin
playing guitar - he learned as a teenager

Complete: Farsight Enclaves/ Mu’gulath Bay Boarding Patrol
Hello everyone, I have been hard at work on a new project to give myself a chance to paint something other than purple. The new Boarding Actions missions and the Arks of Omen storyline is honestly been really inspiring for what I would want to do narratively with some of my smaller forces. I know so far I have posted two space marines, but I am in my heart, a Xenos player. Tau was actually my first army, and I think even though I am proud of a lot of these, you can tell looking at these I have improved.
Still, for fun a little background on my Tau. See the majority of them are decendants of those who fought the imperium for the sept world of Mu’Gulath Bay, or Agrellan as it was known. Mu’Gulath Bay however, was destroyed in frustration by the Imperium as they retreated back across the Damocles Gulf. So a rivalry and hatred of the Imperium was stoked within them, but that did not sway them from the Greater Good. That happened, once Commander Shas’O Dal’Yth Por’Karra or “Commander Clearwater” was placed in charge.
Clearwater is a veteran of two major wars, the Damocles Gulf Crusade, and the horror of the 4th Sphere of Expansion. Within these two events, he was taught many lessons, and one of the greatest, is that humanity cannot be trusted.
It was this, and seeing the fire in the hearts of his new Cadre, that led him to rebellion, fleeting to join the Farsight Enclaves. The forces of Dal’Yth remain in hot pursuit, ready to bring him to justice for crimes against the Empire.
However, with the reveal of the accursed Arks of Omen appearing all over the universe. Clearwater and his breakaway forces were faced with a number of strange signals, one of which was identified as a T’au beacon. This signal was eerily familiar to Clearwater, who insisted that all forces be diverted to answer this call, as it matched the signature of the ship he led into the 4th Sphere of Expansion.
Which, is the sneak peek into the next project I want to do. See the new Boarding action game looks a lot of fun, but the terrain is like, SUPER expensive. so I am making, in the spirit of Xenos lovers, a non-imperium Space Hulk board.
See, the walls and floor are based off the game “Fire Warrior” which had an interior spaceship level.
Its not going to be a perfect match, and I am learning I cannot cut straight edges to save my life, however I think the cramped, broken, demonically fused corridors of a Space Hulk, give the perfect example for why things don’t line up perfectly like on a Tau spaceship.
The Board took up most of my hobby time since the last post, and I have had that collection of Tau mostly done for a while now, they just needed some highlights on the Crisis Suits, along with the insane amount of Freehanding I decided to do, since I wanted each squad to get its own markings.

So I read your post and all I have to say is no. No. No. No. NO. NO!
Sjbattleangel and Samasmith23 are not nor ever have been motivated by "righteous malice" or any of that nonsense! All they ever wanted was for you and your friends to do better!
Those posts made by HellYeahHeroes, Ubernegro and others were ALWAYS wrong and so was Nostalgia Critic and Mr. Plinkett in encouraging that sort of behaviour! AVGN and Linkara have long apologised for this sort behaviour and strived to do better. The worst Linkara ever did was call Joe Quesada a "moron", "dickhead" and "hack" but now he realized how out of line he was and, like I said, has APOLOGIZED for it. As for the MANY false equivalences: The way HellYeahHeroes, Ubernegro, Farsight-The-Chad and TheFemaleFury treat creators and the way Linkara goes after-let's say-Frank Miller and Gary Brodsky are two completely different things: 1) Miller and Brodsky are ACTUAL loud and proud misogynistic bigots who deserve Linkara's tongue-lashing! 2) Tynion, Snyder, Williamson, Slott, Cates, Hickman, Aaron and others are NOT "hacks", "bigots", "TERFs", "eugenists", "misogynists", "perverts", "fascist sympathizers", "closeted Neo-Nazis", ect. Especially when there's ZERO evidence to prove otherwise! HellYeahHeroes, Ubernegro and others have every right dislike their work, every right to be angry but to spread misinformation about them and attack them as people is, was, and always has been wrong!
Just because something was once acceptable, doesn't make it right!
Also, hyperbolic attacks against these creators ISN'T the same as MST3K 's snarky jokes towards B-Movie filmmakers!
"Don't make my friends apologise for being toxic because it distresses them!" So you constantly move the goalposts, deliberately turn a blind eye to actual evidence of their toxicity towards creators, always making excuses for them. There are words for that: Complicity and enabling. Is this the community you want? Are these the people you'll happily defend just because you happen to share the same beliefs? If they ever enact out hurting any of these creators due to some twisted sense of justice for fictional characters, how will you defend them then? Sjbattleangel was right. You, HellYeahHeroes, Ubernegro, Farsight-the-chad and the others are no better then the far-right hate mongers of Comicsgate and The Fandom Menace.
Enjoy the community you made.
Looks like you exploded, must have hit a nerve.
For someone who is trying to defend people to make it appear as though they aren't full of Righteous Malice, you sure are expressing a lot of it yourself on your self righteous proclamations. Like, your rant does more to damn you and your allies than anything I've said about them.
Me, I personally have an apology I waiting to the appropriate parties, and I am not a person who demands personal control over every acquaintance and their choices. You, however, demand it of any and all that you see. By what right do you do so? How much damage will you do in your pursuit?
I also know that I can be a complete tool. You, however, have done no self reflection for someone so sheeted in righteousness.
You can do no wrong, because you don't truly know what it is.
Or, to paraphrase another great writer:
"You can't call yourself the good guys and do bad guy things!"
Remember when SJW battle angel tried to weaponize another group when the creator was trying to take a break but wouldn't back down? I do. It was hilarious.
Your call for justice is shallow and superficial.
I mean, you are so full of yourself that you failed to realize that Linkara hasn't scaled back that far, he scaled back even further, limiting himself to the behaviors rather than the people 99% of the time. The other counterarguments are equally ignorant.
Hell, your reading comprehension is so poor you failed to understand that the core of the points we've been trying to make are the thing you think is a moved goal post.
HYH not talking about this stuff anymore for mental health reasons. Do demand an apology out of them now is a dick move. If they change their mind, then you may proceed -- once they start up again.
Once upon a time, you could have talked to us about the subject and gotten defenses or apologies for recent, active behavior.
But the statute of limitations ran out.
No, really, if you wanted to view any of what we said as libelous, the statue of limitations on it are one year, and (IIRC) only the affected party could file suit.
But that's just the legal take on it. And what are uncontroversial laws in the face of self righteous internet jackasses like you?
That's the difference between us.
I know I can be a monster. A long winded, condescending jackass who uses his higher than average intelligence as a cudgel and barrier against criticism. It's gotten me in hot water before.
And I've had to eat crow more than once.
While you think your farts smell like roses based on what you've been doing here.
That you devolve into Slippery Slope reasoning based on talk that hasn't been engaged in for several years is telling! How can they go down a path they are no longer on?! It only shows the depths you have gone to justify harassment.
Belated harassment at that.
Like, it just goes to show your incompetence that it took you this long to react.
"You are no better than far right hate mongers!"
Oh, really? That just tells me you never actually dealt with any of them directly.
Me? I've been fighting Creationists and Anti Abortion activists online and IN PERSON for over 2 decades now. You would shrivel up and die if you were exposed to half of the horrors I've endured.
Personally, I find it amusing that your crusade devolves into such blatantly bad logic. I particularly it funny that you want to go after me as if I had some control over other people.
"But you still hang out with them!"
You've never hung out with people who had different opinions than your own? Who you never disagreed with?
No wonder you are so brittle. You lack flexibility.

Obscure Heroes of the Farsight Enclaves
Apparently the 8e Tau Empire codex dropped some really obscure lore on some Farsight Enclave defectors in the middle of a bunch of really skippable parts of the book like history timelines and example commanders:
This guy is one of the Fourth Sphere of Expansion survivors, who survived the Warp unshielded. The expedition lost 3/4th of it’s tau, who became very paranoid and xenophobic from their experience. They are said to have massacred all auxillaries they had on the ship, and typically refuse to work with non-Tau, following their experiences with chaos The rumors I had heard of Farsight taking several of them in seems to stem from this guy. Though it’s not written, it is a logical assumption that a number of other 4th sphere tau were disillusioned with Tau leadership as well. As a Shash’vre, he leads a squad of XV8s but is not a Commander. He is depicted with dual Plasma Rifles and a missile pod.
Commander O’Ryn defected with a squad over to the Enclaves sometime between the Fourth Sphere Expansion disappearance and the Fifth Sphere Expansion that reconnected with it’s remnants. Like Farsight himself, O’Ryn and her loyal followers dealt with the forces of chaos, lived, and ultimately defected. This is interesting and she seems cool, basically following in Farsight’s footsteps. This appears to be the only mention of “Junica.” So, we don’t really know what she dealt with.
Here’s the original text from a 2015 White Dwarf issue about harlequins that also happens to have this named Farsight Enclave Barracuda Ace. This is all her information; she’s from a Regiment of Renown pannel Still, the idea of a Farsight Enclaves flying ace is very cool and honestly something that seems like a really fun way to play the army without going really battlesuit heavy Interestingly, this is not the only instance of a Farsight Enclaves tau swapping out grey Sept colours for White to represent the mourning of old battles on Vior’los, which had to if the Lexicarum site is to be believed:
This is a picture of a hunter cadre of the Enclaves known as “M'yennan'ka, The Grieving Blade.” It was created by games workshop employee Jan Knackstedt and showcased in Warhammer: Visions 17 (Which... I can’t find a scan of and don’t want to buy for like a paragraph of only-technically-official Farsight Enclaves lore, so I may be missing context) The paint scheme in general is similar enough that I am curious if this is the same guy - Both use gray and orange with the white-for-mourning theme. Though it’s also like, an entirely different shade of gray; that’s a little strange. I’ll just copy and paste from the Lexicanum: “It was formed after their Sept was invaded by Tyranids and M'yennan'ka then defended Vior'los from Orks, followed by the forces of Chaos. The Hunter Cadre has been at constant war since then, and it was last seen taking part in the bloody fighting around Kavardia. M'yennan'ka's armor has been left battle-scarred from its long run of violent battles, but its blue and orange panels, representing unit markings and achievements, still stand out. The Hunte Cadre has also swapped Vior'los' grey Sept markings for white ones, in remembrance for the Tyranid invasion, “ Vior’los is the capitol planet of the Enclaves; it’s name denotes it being a descendent of the Vior’la Sept. I actually really like the use of a specific Hunter Cadre as like an “Enclaves Subfaction” in terms of paint scheme, it really lets you break away from just having reds all the time (...Not that there’s anything wrong with that.)

16 for the ficlet :3
The power of oc x canon ship has once again compelled me to make this 1k words lol. It is completely unedited tho, so idk if this is actually good or not, but it has my special little ship so that's enough for me
16. have you ever / you wouldn’t dare
“James?” Chae-Yeong says, drawing his attention away from the book he was reading.
“Yes, starlight?” he says.
She rubs her hand along his back in slow circles. “Have you ever thought about changing up your look?”
James blinks.
The question came out of nowhere. It’s a summer night that’s warm by Atlas’s standards, and they’re curled up together on a couch in Chae-Yeong’s living room. She’s warm against his side, and he holds her close to him with one hand while the other keeps his book open as he reads. Before Chae-Yeong had spoken, they’d been sitting together in a cozy silence, the only noise being the soft hum of the big band, swing, and jazz music that she loves playing from a radio below her television.
Once James starts to think of a response, doubt settles over him.
James always has been image conscious. He was even more so after he got his prosthetics, and then even more so when he started to exist more in the public eye as he rose through the military ranks.
Chae-Yeong’s never been anything but adoring of his body, and for that he’s always been grateful. But as she asks if he’s thought about changing his look, he can’t help but worry that she’s asking because there’s something she doesn’t like.
“Is there something I should change?” James asks. His voice is tighter than he wanted it to come out, but he supposes there are worse things than being vulnerable around his wife.
Before James can get too caught in his head, Chae-Yeong’s expression softens and her eyebrows furrow.
“No, I’m sorry, yeobo, I didn’t mean it like that,” she says. “I’d never ask you to change anything for me. Besides, I’ll think you’re the handsomest man in Remnant no matter what.”
If nothing else, that’s reassuring. James knows he was being ridiculous thinking that she might be trying to tell him she didn’t like the way he looked, but it’s still comforting to hear it.
“Then why do you ask?” James says. He bookmarks his book before laying it on the coffee table in front of them.
“I don’t know. I guess I was just curious since you tend to stick to one look for a while,” Chae-Yeong says.
She’s right. James has never bothered with experimenting much with his physical appearance. He found a look that worked for him, and he stuck as close to it as he could without any major changes beyond shifting to a white, gray, and red color palette instead of a more gray and brown one as he rose through the ranks of the Atlesian military. Before he became General Cloud’s right hand man and then Atlas’s newest general, he sometimes would let his facial hair grow out since he knew that Chae-Yeong liked how he looked like that, but he’s been clean shaven for a decade now except on their rare weekends away from Atlas together.
Every other change to James’s appearance since he became a Huntsman has more or less been beyond his control. His hair started graying at the temples, and he’s started getting some wrinkles at the corners of his eyes. He’s become farsighted too, and he never wears his glasses in public, but he does around Chae-Yeong.
That’s ignoring the biggest change in his appearance over the years, but James tries to do that when he can. The prosthetics that make up the entire right side of his body from the neck down are significantly different from when he was in his early twenties, though. They can mimic the real thing well enough, but they’re nonetheless a sensitive point for James. He hates having to see a reminder of his own failures in the mirror everyday, and he hates even more how he hears people whispering about them behind his back.
James figures that his prosthetics are a big enough change to his look. There’s no need to change it more than that.
“I’ve never given it much thought,” James says. “Change suits you better anyway.”
In contrast to James, Chae-Yeong has changed countless little things about her look over the years. Some changes are ones that only James gets to see, knowing it’s her, like her shorter hair and fangs and her own prosthetic limbs. Other changes are ones that others get to see too, and every now and then James thinks about how she shifted from wearing her father’s blues and golds to black and their old team’s reds and purples and grays.
It’s good seeing her get to move away from her family’s influence. It’s also flattering to see his colors on her.
“But if I did change my look,” James says, tone now light enough to be teasing, “I could always try shaving my head. Maybe get a bit thinner.”
Chae-Yeong frowns at him. She pushes herself up with one hand on his chest so they’re looking eye to eye.
Her annoyed expression is cute.
“You wouldn’t dare,” she says, gravely serious.
He wouldn’t, but he’s going to keep teasing her for a little bit longer. “You said that you’ll find me attractive no matter what.”
“I will,” Chae-Yeong says unconvincingly.
James laughs, pressing a kiss to Chae-Yeong’s temple.
“I wouldn’t, honey,” he assures. “I know you like my hair.”
“No comment about you losing weight, hmm?”
“And I won’t lose any weight.”
“Good,” Chae-Yeong says.
“Maybe I’ll see about getting my ass to be a little smaller, though.”
Chae-Yeong smacks James on the chest. “You’re such a dick.”
James grins at Chae-Yeong, and as much as things have changed, for a moment it feels like they’re in their twenties again and falling in love for the first time.
Chae-Yeong rolls her eyes. She climbs onto James’s lap, legs straddling him, before letting herself relax onto him. Her chin rests on his right shoulder and her arms wrap around his middle. James holds her close, massaging the space between her shoulders with his metal hand because he knows that she likes the pressure from it.
“I still would love you even if you did any of that,” Chae-Yeong assures.
“I know, beautiful,” James says.
Even when he overthinks and starts to panic, he knows in the back of his mind that Chae-Yeong will always adore him. And there are few things in his life that he could be more grateful for than that.

>"Do you have a character with glasses? Have you ever drawn them without glasses?"
In Arc 1, only a few side/background characters have glasses (only spectacles so far).
However, in Arc 2, Ash will have reading glasses. He's farsighted, which you can actually see in a few shots like at the start of chapter 5, where he holds the padd out in front of him to read whats on it. I didn't initially plan for this though, so in chapter 3 he does look closely at a few things. It's a bit of an early retcon I suppose
>"How would you describe your writing style?"
I focus a lot on dialogue and character facial expressions, and less so on descriptions. I'll write a description if new things are introduced or the main characters are supposed to be looking around at something, but I probably don't describe stuff as much as a lot of other authors. I'm the kind of person who doesn't stop to look at "the sights" and will read every word in a museum in just a couple of minutes and then leave. I'm not a stop and think about appearances person, so it's hard to write that way.

Why Trepan became small and cute (bonus: breaking gender)
Yes, he’s sus. But he’s adorable. How did this happen? Truth be told, it was not my intention to make him cute, and instead that was just a byproduct of his design. But I embraced it before I started the actual writing.
It began when I was debating on what alt-form to give Trepan in TFP. Aligned Transformers have alt-forms that help them move or fight, so being an object wasn’t an option. I wondered things like if I would make him flight-capable or not. My first priority was this: design an elusive character. I wanted him to be hard to learn about and hard to catch. I wanted a quieter presence, so a wide 4-wheeler didn’t fit. A slim and quiet 2-wheeler just felt right for the sense of him, and he would be very quick and agile for when large characters tried to grab him.
I settled on my decision when I wanted Trepan to be a super talented doctor. There was one scene in TFP where Ratchet was picking an Autobot to do surgery on him. He picked Arcee because her hands were smallest, but she wasn’t comfortable with the task.
But what if someone with small hands were comfortable? How talented they would be at surgery! Trepan’s tiny hands could go deep into bodies to repair them, and he could grab bleeding lines and melt them together. Little fingers and scalpels could be so precise in surgeries on giant brains. His hands are incredible!
Once I decided he would be a thin 2-wheeler, I then wanted him to resemble Arcee. Making him the same race as her was an opportunity to break the stereotypical robot gender designs. In TFP, all the she/her robots are feminine. Arcee has boob plates, but for a Cybertronian, chest plates are just metal. Body shapes are coincidences. But the TFP concept art book said they specifically designed Arcee to be feminine. Why is it that he/him robots can have any shape, but the female ones must be like humans coated in metal? More than curves, they even have defined lips...
So I gave Trepan the same kind of body because they are the same kind of Cybertronian. By feminizing Trepan, I made it a two-wheeler thing, not a gender thing. I normalized the body type for all genders; any gender can have boob plates now. I love mixing up the designs; there is so much freedom in making the robots look any way you want. If I want sassy valley girl Froid, he’s getting hips to sway.
(Bikini Froid?)
Strika and Ripclaw are beady-eyed and lipless because they are intimidating by their appearances. Leozack and Lyzack have the same body. Overlord has mascara and lipstick because it’s fashion
(people also seem distracted by his tits though. What can I say but Overlord is our multi-gender icon?)
Trepan couldn’t have needles because mnemosurgery doesn’t fit in Aligned. I made him keep his little claws though; Trepan has scalpels. For more expression, I let him have orange pupils to narrow, so he looks very squinty and suspicious. But pouting when you are so little just makes people find you cute. And he is delicate and unable to fight, so the bots around him are protective. Then, when you read the story and learn the twists, Trepan really is cute because he wasn’t actually doing those horrible things people thought he was. He looks grouchy, but he’s very kindhearted. You just want to scoop him up!
The delicacy was also important for increasing Overlord’s hostility when someone was more likely to hurt Trepan, even accidentally. The stakes are much higher when Maximus grabbed him and killing Trepan was as easy as using two fingers. Maximus hurts Trepan while barely trying, and I enjoy the stress in the scenes where Trepan is in danger.
He’s also farsighted and sleepy, so that’s also endearing. He’s only farsighted to justify the glasses, because IDW Trepan’s goggles are a must for the design. One scene you chase him and he doesn’t have his glasses, and he’s frantically trying to lock a door but he can’t read the keypad XD
He burns out and can’t rest without aid or comfort, so I also can’t stop thinking about him and Froid hahahaha
(squinty gay)

Zoo Break
Jaune eating a apple in the courtyard.
Blake comes up and asks: What’s that in your hand.
Jaune: An apple.
Blake: No, in the other hand.
Jaune looks at his other hand: It’s a chain.
Blake with a raised eyebrow: To what?
Jaune follows the chain to his feet: A lion.
Blake: Why do you have a lion.
Jaune shrugs: Wanted to try to evolve my semblance. So, I got a lion.
Blake with confusion: Why, a lion.
The lion growls at Blake an she jumps back.
Jaune looks at the lion then shrugs: Why not a lion?
Blake from up a tree: So, you just thought it would be a great idea to awaken the aura of a natural born killer, and then further turn it into a murder machine, that no offense, you could not stop if it was enraged.
Jaune looks at the lion cleaning itself: Hmm, yes, I’d say that was my thought process.
Blake: Where did you even get it from?
Jaune: I saw it being loaded out to a ship that said... SDC? Sorry I don’t really have good farsight, but I saw it, thought it looked cool, and... I punched out the pilot took his uniform, hijacked the ship, and then landed here.
Blake:...
Jaune: Do you know anywhere, I could sell the ship? Ozpin offered to buy it, but he’s a little shady, and I think that he’ll under cut me.
Blake clearly stunned, now noticing a poorly hid ship behind Jaune, how did she not notice this!?
Jaune: I really don’t want to keep it, we kept getting weird looks from some guy from red hair and horns. Eris put him in the morgue though, don’t know how we got away with that one....
Blake returning to sense, but with a large smile on her face: I take it back, you’re clearly capable of owning a natural born murder machine.
Jaune, rubbing the back of his head: Ah, shucks, thanks Blake. But, I don’t own, Eris here, she’s my friend.
Blake: Then why do you have a chain on her?
Jaune: That’s for her to play with.
Blake: Oh... So, do you have anyway of controlling here?
Jaune: Bellyrubs and neck scritches mostly.
Blake with a flushed face: Must be pretty good scritches then...
Eris the lion: Growls at Blake again.
Blake hisses back.
Blake: So, has she attack anybody?
Jaune: Tons, mostly women though, and Cardin.
Blake looking at Eris: Huh, I wonder why.
Pyrrha: I HAVE RETURNED AFTER A THOUSAND YEARS IN THE ER!
Jaune: Oh, hey Pyrrha.
Pyrrha staring at Jaune and then glaring at Eris: I have come to reclaime my rightful postion as Jaune’s right hand bitch, and I WILL NOT BE DENIED! Now have at you, foul beast, I have been lifting weights and snorting protein powder all day for this-AGGH- Pyrrha gets attacke mid-sentence by a Eris the lioness.
Blake watches as the lioness dominates Pyrrha in a fight: Huh, who knew all it took to take down the Invincible Girl was a supernatural and supercharged lion, huh, learn something new everyday.
Jaune eating his apple: Yep, second time today, actually, don’t know why she has it out for Pyrrha so bad... and now that I think about it Ruby, Velvet, and Cinder? I think her name was? Anyway, Eris stop!
Jaune rears back and throws the chain around Eris, the change perfectly wrapping around the big cat and capturing her, it glowing with a blinding auric light as she is then pulled back to Jaune.
Jaune: Bad Eris, we do not attack our friends.
Eris the lioness grumbles.
Jaune: Eh, what was that? Sounds like you don’t want afternoon cuddles then.
Eris looks panicked, and then lets out a strangled lion eviqulent of sorry to Pyrrha, who was laying on the floor with bruises, bite marks, and several bleeding cuts.
Jaune looks at his sorry mess of a partner: You ok Pyrrha?
Pyrrha: Tis, just a scratch.
Jaune: Your missing part of your shoulder, here let me help.
Pyrrha turns red with ectascy as Jaune fill her with his white, powerful aura.
Pyrrha’s body fully heals.
Blake looks at Jaune: Your semblance is broken.
Jaune shrugs: I guess, but it still requires aura... which I can regenrate faster than I use, so yeah, yep, uh, pretty op.
Pyrrha kisses Jaune full on the lips, and then pulls back glaring at Eris: I will return for you, Jaune! Stronger than ever, and reclaim my right of afternoon cuddles! You hear that you yeller hair bitch!
Yang in the distance: Hey! I only cuddle with him every other afternoon!
Pyrrha shouts back: I wasn’t talking to you! But, know that I know this I’m going to kick your ass too!
Yangs: Well, bring it then!
Pyrrha: Later, I got to take care of this other yellow haired bitch!
Yang: Fine then!
Yang then walks off.
Pyrrha changes her glare back to Eris.
Eris growls back at Pyrrha and takes a swipe at her but can’t due to being bound by chains. Pyrrha smugly looking down at her Nemesis.
Jaune flicks Pyrrha in the forehead: None of that, beside leave Eris along, she just needs to adjust to being around people, and you picking fights with her isn’t helping. Your welcome to join in the cuddles if you behave!
Pyrrha looks flushed and looks away. Eris looks at Pyrrha with the smugness only a lion can have.
Pyrrha: ...Ok, but I get to be little spoon.
Jaune shrugs: Sure.
Pyrrha kisses Jaune again and leaves.
Jaune unchains Eris: I will never understand that woman.
Blake watches bewildered, and then shrugs: Can I join?
Jaune; Sure.
Cinder Fall appears!
Cinder: I have come to claim, you as my prince Jaune! Now where is that Lion, so that I might smite her- AGGGH Cinder screams as she too is attacked by Eris.
Jaune sighs: Ha, why does she keep doing this.
Blake deadpan: I wonder why...
AN: I was deeply moved by the Gorrilageeks horny duck, and decided to make this.

7 SENSES
BASICS. Thought I’d make a megapost here of Alex’s abilities and superhuman traits since he is a shark in human form. You can find this information on his page too!
SIGHT. Alex’s vision is very impaired on land as his eyes are rather adapted for water. He is very farsighted and needs glasses or contacts to see, however he does not need these when he is under water. In water, Alex can see just as well as a person can on land, however, he is colorblind, so his eyes catch mostly light instead of color. He also has Tapetum Lucidum tissue, which allows him to see in the dark and can make his eyes appear to glow if caught in the right lighting. See this headcanon for more info.
SMELL. Alex’s sense of smell is greater than that of a normal human. Certain aromas are stronger to him and he is more sensitive to iron or metallic smells, especially blood. He can smell blood from miles away, as well as food or smoke.
TASTE. Alex’s sense of taste is actually about the same as an average person’s. It is not enhanced in any way that is known to him, though he does have some preferences. He is sensitive to spicy foods; even the smallest amount of spice will make his eyes water. Seafood is a no-go for him as he “can’t stand the taste of fish” and he’s fearful that it will trigger a shift. He enjoys sweet tasting foods!
TOUCH. Sharks’ bodies are actually very rough, like sand paper. Similarly, Alex’s skin is calloused and hardened from scarring. He is sensitive to being touched, especially on his face. He will react as if it tickles; if he is punched in the face it can stun him. Alex relies on his hands like a shark relies on its mouth; he has a compulsive need to touch things to understand what it is. His touch is very gentle and careful and soft; especially if he is around someone he cares about. See this headcanon for more info.
HEARING. Alex’s hearing is very acute and he is able to hear low frequency sounds that regular people cannot. He can hear sounds within 10-800 Hertz (humans can hear within 25-16,000 Hertz) and like sight, this is amplified in the water. He is able to hear a person’s heartbeat from 5 miles away and the sounds of struggling fish.
ELECTRO-RECEPTION. Ampullae of Lorenzini aid in a shark’s hearing, allowing it to detect the electric current of struggling prey. They are found underneath the nose, making Alex’s nose one of the most sensitive places on his face. This ability allows him to detect hidden people or animals by their electric currents they emit.
PRESSURE CHANGE. For humans, we fail to detect a change in pressure since the air around is is not dense enough. Sharks have a lateral line that runs from their snout to their tail that helps them detect such changes in the waters they swim in, as well as helping them navigate by putting together a pressure map of their surroundings. Alex can do this in water only, not on land, but he’s not in water enough to know exactly how.

Yashahime Translation: Prince Animage May 2021 Issue (Part 2)
Please do not repost this translation without my consent! This includes screenshots of any type and amount. If you wish to share this translation, simply link to this post.
For more information regarding the use of my translations, click here.
Due to the amount of content in the magazine, I have decided to the split the translation into three parts:
Part 1: Elder Son’s Resolve! Interview with Director Satou Teruo
Part 2: We Won’t Give Up On the Future! Father-Daughter Round-Table Talk with Narita Ken, Matsumoto Sara, and Komatsu Mikako
Part 3: The Strength to Overcome Destiny. Interview with Director Satou Teruo
Intertwining Fates
The curtains on the Yashahimes’ story briefly closed with the shocking scene of “Setsuna’s death”. With Towa and the others at its center, the complexly intertwined fates of various people continue into the second chapter (season).
The fire that tore Towa and Setsuna apart, the Dream Butterfly that stole Setsuna’s slumber, the sleeping Rin, and the Rainbow Pearls that possess demonic power; all these things that became key to the story were connected to Kirinmaru’s elder sister, Zero.
Zero previously heard the Shikon Jewel’s prophecy: “An existence that is neither demon nor human and can cross through time will destroy Kirinmaru.” Thinking that it refers to Towa, Setsuna, Moroha, and Inuyasha, Zero tried to eliminate them in order to protect her younger brother. However, that was just an ostensible reason. Behind her actions lurked a feeling of jealousy towards the half-demons and quarter-demon that carried the Dog General’s blood. It seems her unrealized love for the Dog General was the motivation behind her twisted emotions and actions.
Zero’s behavior rouses Kirinmaru’s anger and she disappears from his sight. However, the story does not end with just this issue being settled. As part of the “Rite of Courage and Cowardice”, Towa and the others end up having to fight Kirinmaru and unbelievably, Setsuna loses her life during the battle.
There is a heap of other issues such as Rin who still continues to sleep even now and the Grim Comet that has appeared in the modern era. It is now an anxious wait for the broadcasting to see how future mysteries will be unraveled in the second chapter (season).
Character Bios
Zero Kirinmaru’s elder sister. She was in love with the Dog General. Being that she was the one who created the Rainbow Pearls, she went to go look for the scattered pearls after her breakdown with Kirinmaru.
Kirinmaru The beast king of the eastern lands. Irritated by his elder sister, Zero’s, misconduct towards Sesshōmaru, they part ways as brother and sister as a result. He battles the three (Towa, Setsuna, Moroha) and kills Setsuna.
Sesshōmaru The son of the beast king who once stood on the same level as Kirinmaru, the Dog General, and Towa and Setsuna’s father. It seems he is searching for a child named Akuru but the reason why is unknown.
Higurashi Towa She treasures her younger twin sister, Setsuna, above all else. As she grieves over Setsuna’s death, she receives a broken Tenseiga from her father, Sesshōmaru… …?
Setsuna A half-demon whose sleep and memories were stolen by the Dream Butterfly. She loses her life while battling Kirinmaru but just before drawing her last breath, she calls Towa “Towa-neechan”.
Moroha Towa and Setsuna’s cousin. Despite being enraged by Setsuna’s death, when she turned into Beniyasha, she was able to maintain her (sound) mind and not get overwhelmed by the rampage of her demonic blood.
The Offense and Defense Concerning Half-Demons
Zero has attempted to eliminate the half-demons that carry the Dog General’s blood by doing things such as spurring Kirinmaru to kill Inuyasha or burning the forest that Towa and Setsuna were hiding in. Sesshōmaru was always by her side. Though he does not say much, Sesshōmaru may have seen through Zero’s intentions early and acted one step ahead.
Rin and Zero’s Connection
Zero can connect to others via “fate” and control them as she pleases. Those whose fates are connected to Zero will die alongside her should she lose her life. It seems Zero herself connected her fate to Rin and used that to keep Sesshōmaru in check. The details on how Rin and Zero’s fates were intertwined is of interest.
That Which Sesshōmaru Searches For
Sesshōmaru is someone who never appeared on the story’s center stage for long. During that time, he was searching for a child named Akuru. It seems that the pinwheel Akuru holds is somehow connected to the giant “Windmill of Time”. After Akuru appeared before Sesshōmaru, the Windmill of Time that had not moved for so long moved again but what does that mean… …?
Setsuna’s Seal
Zero wants Kirinmaru to exterminate Towa and the others but Kirinmaru, preferring to fight fair and square, realizes the difference in strength between him and the girls and decides to hold off battling them until they have grown (in strength). It is there that Zero forcefully releases the seal placed on Setsuna’s demon blood so that Kirinmaru will fight Towa and the others seriously.
A Broken Tenseiga
The Tenseiga that Sesshōmaru carries is a sword of healing that was created from the fang of the Dog General and is known as “the sword that saves the lives of the weak”. Sesshōmaru resurrects the dead Zero with Tenseiga but that enrages Zero and she breaks the blade. Will the broken Tenseiga be able to revive Setsuna who has lost her life?
Famous Quote Pick Up!
The role of Sesshōmaru, Narita Ken “Anymore will sadden Rin”
“Personally, the monologue in episode 24 “Anymore will sadden Rin…” struck me. Even though Sesshōmaru doesn’t show kindness, periodically he will suddenly say something like this. On top of that, he doesn’t even put a lot of emotion into it and it just comes out nonchalantly. I think that‘s what’s good about him.” (Narita)
The role of Higurashi Towa, Matsumoto Sara “We’re not alone now.”
“(the line) At the end of episode 16 “We’re not alone now.” I felt was just like Towa. She says that to Moroha but of course Setsuna is among those she’s thinking of. Towa came to the feudal era for Setsuna’s sake she has always held the feeling of “It’s okay because Setsuna is here” at her core. The strength of her unwaveringness really shows when the three of them are backed into a corner.” (Matsumoto)
The role of Setsuna, Komatsu Mikako “You can always change the way you live”
“The phrase in episode 16 “You can always change the way you live” left an impression on me. Even though Setsuna is a half-demon, she’s quite farsighted (philosophically) for a 14-year-old. I think her environment up until now and the blood that flows within her makes her that way. Having passed episode 20 which depicted Setsuna’s past, I once again feel how powerful this phrase is.” (Komatsu)

Demanding “A Sense of Smell” From Playing Sesshōmaru
— Since this is after the recording of episode 23 today (the day of the interview), thank you all for your hard work!
Matsumoto: Thank you! You see, today is actually the first time I recorded with Narita-san for “Hanyō no Yashahime”. It’s like “we finally meet” kind of feeling and I’m very happy!
Narita: Finally, it was our first father-daughter meeting! I look forward to doing this interview together.
Komatsu: Likewise, I look forward to working with you as well. Narita-san went straight into recording episode 24 (the final episode) right after recording episode 23. The last episode is next week for us, but we read the script and it was completely shocking… …!
— The final episode had an ending that really made you wonder about the future. Having traversed through the story up to this point, what is everyone’s state of mind right now?
Matsumoto: After episode 20, going into the final stage, the vigor of the story increased. For viewers, I think their theories up to now were all overturned at one point. We also started recording not knowing what was going to happen in the future, so we progressed through recording while talking about “What’s going to happen next?” every time. It was a continuation of surprises. Just when I thought we finally got to interact with our father in episode 23, this time, something like that happens to Setsuna… … I was shocked like “To think they would end it like this!” and I immediately started thinking about how the second chapter (season) would connect from here. My current thought is that as I look forward to the second chapter (season), I want to rewatch season 1 one more time before the broadcasting (for season 2) begins.
Komatsu: Back when I didn’t know what was going to happen, when I asked the staff “How is season 1 going to end and what’s going to happen in season 2?”, they told me “Most of the questions that the viewers have will be answered in season 1. Around the last episode of season 1, you might be able to record with everyone in the Higurashi family again.” That’s why in my (mind), I had my hopes up like “I wonder if in the final episode, the whole Kirinmaru situation and Rin’s sleep would all be resolved and Setsuna and the others go to the modern era again, and in season 2 the three Yashahimes would start a happy school life?”
Everyone: (laughs)
Komatsu: And then it went in a completely different direction! Just when I thought the story was connecting in a line, there’s suddenly more questions. There’s still many unanswered mysteries and in the second chapter (season), what will happen (in regards to the those mysteries) … while having that anticipation, as Setsuna, I want her to be revived as soon as possible. In the Inuyasha world, you get pushed down many times, no matter what, and those intense developments where you fight as you climb back up are a distinct characteristic. Hence, I look forward to those intense developments in the second chapter (season)!
Narita: I don’t like calculating future developments and then think “I’ll do this part like this” so I go into the recordings without knowing the upcoming story or the movement of the characters as much as possible. Besides, it feels more fun to go into it without knowing the story. As such, all I use is my sense of smell. In this work, it feels like I’m using my sense of smell 1,000 times more than usual. That’s just how much concentration is needed, and I feel that this work is very stimulating in more ways than one.
— It seems that Sesshōmaru himself moves knowing what Kirinmaru and Zero are after but Narita-san, you were acting without knowing the upcoming development I see.
Narita: That’s right. Sound director Nagura Yasushi-san asked me “Would you like me to give you something that explains how things will turn out?” but I purposely declined. If I found out, it felt as though unnecessary emotions would come out of my voice. When I act, I aim for the middle between “Lines written in the script as is” and “my own considerations” like “It probably goes like this right?”.
Komatsu: Even though I think Sesshōmaru probably knows everything, his lines have various components mixed into them, so I always get a sense of “I wonder?”. That’s why as a fan, I love speculating that marginal aspect.
Matsumoto: I’m the same way. (His lines) always leave room for pondering.
Komatsu: He doesn’t speak much to begin with, but I think it’s just like father to not say everything within those few words. Watching Narita-san record in person today, I was moved by how Sesshōmaru’s nuances were expressed with such finesse.
Narita: As expected, you two are “Inuyasha” fans (laughs). But it really is difficult. He won’t say things with words after all. Although, he would just become a boring man if he said everything. I think he himself knows everything, but suppresses giving out the answer and just highlights it a little bit… that kind of moderation is important. I’m always conscious of this when I act but it’s tough after all. I only have a few lines so I have this feeling of “If I mess these words up, when is the next time (I speak)?”. That’s why I act with this feeling of “I’m going to put everything into these words” every time.
— Narita-san, how did you feel when you first heard about the “Hanyō no Yashahime” project?
Narita: I never thought they would revive “Inuyasha” in this form. If they were going to do it, I thought naturally Inuyasha would be the center of the story. The setting of Sesshōmaru’s children being the main characters never crossed my mind. I thought something like that would be impossible and I wondered about a lot of things like “Then who’s the mother?”. Rin (being the mother) was unexpected.
— It was unexpected?
Narita: I didn’t think he would ever touch upon that. I wanted to shake Sesshōmaru’s shoulders like “This isn’t like you~!” (laughs).
Komatsu: Love sprouted!
Narita: How do I put it, love is something far off to Sesshōmaru… I even think he had kids because he probably had some kind of objective.
— In other words, not because he wanted to create a family?
Narita: That might be true for Inuyasha, but for Sesshōmaru, I think there was an experimental aspect to it like “What sort of chemical reaction would happen in my heart if I had kids”. After all, I don’t think it’s necessary for him to be a dad.
Komatsu: Sesshōmaru certainly does seem like he would have that kind of desire to “want to know”.
— Then how did you feel when you saw the girls?
Narita: “Ah, so this is what they’re like” is what I thought. I thought they were brave, healthy looking kids. When color was added to the characters, I felt there were aspects similar to Sesshōmaru. But you know, the shock that he had daughters really is big. It was like “Will the Sesshōmaru up until now fall apart?” “I don’t want him to start ogling”. It was a little complicated there. It's just that it’s true that in the story of “Inuyasha”, he gradually showed his affection for Rin. In that case, something close to that may also bud for his daughters and that too may become a new appeal for him.
Reenacting Sesshōmaru’s Solitude for the Final Recording
— It’s been 20 years since the time of “Inuyasha” but Narita-san, do you remember the time you met Sesshōmaru?
Narita: I did not get the role of Sesshōmaru through auditioning. It seems there were actual auditions, but they couldn’t come to a decision, so they had Takahashi Rumiko-sensei, the author of the original work, listen to the voice samples of various candidates. It was there that Rumiko-sensei picked me is how the story goes. Until then, I did not have many appearances in anime works, so I think there are many young people who recognize me for my role as Sesshōmaru. I also felt that things changed after I played Sesshōmaru. That’s why to me, his existence is very big.
— His looks are androgynous but his voice is deep, so in the beginning, there may have been people who felt an element of surprise from that.
Narita: When I first saw his character appearance, I remember thinking he was woman dressed in a furisode. That’s why during the first test, I used a higher pitched voice. Like the pretty boy voice so to speak. Then, the sound director at the time, Tsuruoka Yōta-san told me “Please make it deeper”. I lowered my voice while thinking “What?” yet he still said “Deeper” … That’s why it was very hard in the beginning. It was to the point that I thought “I can’t keep going like this!”. That’s why I raised my voice just a little bit at time so that it wasn’t noticeable. Otherwise, I felt that I couldn’t express (things). When I did that, it gradually became easier.
Matsumoto: So that’s how it was.
Narita: Although, there was a trigger behind that. At one point, I received a letter from someone who was a fan of the work and it seemed that the Sesshōmaru that person imagined was a certain voice actor who was very popular at the time. When I read that, I thought “Whaaat!” (laughs). But if that’s the case, I thought “It’s fine if I do this more freely” and my shoulders relaxed instantly, and I felt better.
— As in acting in a way that only you can?
Narita: Yes, that’s why I’m grateful for that letter. It’s thanks to that that I was able to reach a turning point after all.
Komatsu: Meaning you broke through that “Sesshōmaru has to be like this” kind of (mentality). When I first heard Sesshōmaru’s voice in the animation, I was able to grasp that “This is what Sesshōmaru’s scariness was”. To begin with, his beauty and contrasting calmness pierced through me and I had this scary image of him from when I read the manga. However, the moment that became a voice, I really felt that it made it convincing. That’s why from the start in my mind, I couldn’t imagine anyone else for Sesshōmaru other than Narita-san. It’s the complete opposite of Inuyasha’s high tone and he’s calm. He felt like a true greater demon. His rank is much higher than Inuyasha’s and I could feel that sense of him being beyond anyone’s power.
Narita: Afterall, his father (the Dog General) was Ōtsuka Akio-san and his mother is Sakakibara Yoshiko-san. The parents were amazing, weren’t they?
Matsumoto: For sure, the whole family is strong… …!
Narita: But Sesshōmaru’s strength is that he doesn’t flinch even before such parents. Like he has his own world. I thought I really should (act) that part without wavering.
— How did it feel playing Sesshōmaru again for the first time in a while in “Hanyō no Yashahime”?
Narita: It’s been 20 years since “Inuyasha” and 10 years since “Inuyasha the Final Act” so that amount of time is pretty hefty. I thought I could do it instantly but when I tried, it felt off. I was bewildered like “I did this originally so why?”. I started acting while doing my utmost to recall the feelings from back then, but it didn’t go well immediately and even I was surprised. The stronger the emotional attachment, the closer to myself I got and I thought “This is a human”. I kept comparing and adjusting many times like “Gotta change it back, gotta change it back”.
— So there’s a certain feeling when playing a demon.
Narita: That’s when I thought I probably focused a lot more back during “Inuyasha”. The onsite studio for “Inuyasha” had a peaceful atmosphere and I felt that I couldn’t let myself get caught up in the atmosphere. Stubbornly, I strongly made myself think “I am solitary”. Until I stood in front of the microphone, I would create Sesshōmaru inside myself and carry on as such until the end. That may have been what I was missing. That’s why at the recording of the final episode today, I purposely told the girls “I want you out”.
— In other words?
Narita: Just as I said earlier, I recorded episode 23 with the girls but I recorded the final episode alone. During that time, the girls waited for me (until the interview started) and they could’ve stayed in the booth but I purposely wanted to do it alone. It probably wouldn’t have changed much whether there was someone inside or not but how to put it, I wanted to get closer to the me back then, even just a little.
— I see.
Matsumoto: There’s certainly emphasis on recording with a small number of people right now, so it might be a difficult environment to face your role in. It’s pretty much you get to the studio, immediately voice the scenes you appear in, and then immediately go home when you’re done. Even as a newbie, I can feel it throwing off my rhythm somehow.
— So even bout scenes get (cut up) into small pieces then.
Matsumoto: I think if we had recorded with everyone together from the top, we could’ve created time for each of us to focus on our roles while feeling the flow of the story. I think there’s definitely something that can be built with everyone onsite. However, there’s difficulty from not having time to build that.
Komatsu: When you can feel the flow of the whole thing onsite, the feeling changes a little from when you’re reading the script at home. There are times where you realize things for the first time. But right now, we’re only doing our corresponding scenes, so things come up that we just can’t grasp. There is merit in just doing your turn in a short time, but it feels completely different from doing it with everyone.
— So there’s a challenge that comes from the Corona crisis.
Komatsu: The staff have shown consideration for us by making it possible for us to interact with each other as much as possible, so I’m grateful. While taking in consideration counter measures against spreading the virus, they adjusted it so that those voicing scenes with character conversations can record in the same booth together. Thanks to that, the cast of the three Yashahime were basically able to record together.
Narita: They were limiting it to around 3, 4 people at most. I recorded with Kirinmaru (Yoshimasa Hosoya-san) and Zero (Sakamoto Maaya-san) many times. Then there was Jaken-chan (Chō-san). Jaken was the same old Jaken and he made me think that I had to do my best without losing. I didn’t (record) together with my younger brother (Inuyasha played by Yamaguchi Kappei-san). Not that I want to meet him or anything.
Matsumoto: It’s Lord Sesshōmaru! (laughs)
Komatsu: Thank you! (laughs)
Narita: (laughs) Also, I was able to record together with Rin (Noto Mamiko-san) in episode 1. It felt as though Noto-san had matured a little bit. Her growth as a woman came through a little in her acting, which I thought was wonderful.
Matsumoto: Us daughters haven’t recorded with Noto-san but I just happened to be able to watch the recording for episode 15, so that’s when I greeted her. When I told her “I’m your daughter; thank you for giving birth to me” Noto-san was like “Oh my god~! My daughter~!”. But we had to maintain social distancing so we were both like “I can’t hug youuuu~!” (laughs).
Komatsu: I’m so jealous. I can picture that situation (laughs)
Concern about Setsuna’s life and Towa and Riku’s relationship
— In regard to Rin, it was revealed in episode 23 and 24 that her “fate” is connected to Zero. Matsumoto-san and Komatsu-san, as daughters, what do you think?
Komatsu: I thought “what a cruel fate”. While the feeling of wanting to hurry and meet mother face to face grows stronger, currently the only way to prolong Rin’s life is to keep her asleep, and it’s there that Setsuna’s Dream Butterfly is involved. All that is linked to Zero.
Matsumoto: It’s a negative chain where in order to get Setsuna’s sleep back, you have to kill Zero but doing so would also kill Rin. Towa wants Setsuna to be able to sleep but she still doesn’t know about that connection. She tried to sever that in the final episode, but the result was…
Komatsu: Setsuna, who was never able to sleep, was finally able to sleep via death. It was such an ironic plot twist… …!
Matsumoto: Seriously, I thought “You’d write this kind of script!?”! (laughs) In the opening for cour 2, there’s a scene where Rin catches a falling Setsuna but I want them to hurry and do this scene in the main story.
Narita: Setsuna will be in season 2, right? We won’t be able to sleep in Setsuna’s place because we’re so curious.
Komatsu: I have faith that she’ll appear… … For that reason, I look forward to Towa’s efforts.
Matsumoto: I’ll do my best! At the end of the final episode, Sesshōmaru takes out a broken Tenseiga and says “Shall you try, Towa…”. That was the first time father said my name. Earlier, I watched Narita-san record from outside the booth and that was truly unforgettable. Seriously, I think it was a scene that entrusted a lot of things (to Towa) so I want to carve that voice into my heart and take on the recording for the final episode.
— In regard to Towa, her relationship with Riku is also of interest.
Matsumoto: You’re right. The scene where she told Riku “I like you!” really surprised me!
Komatsu: Love made up a large portion within the story of “Inuyasha” but “Hanyō no Yashahime” doesn’t have a love component to that level. It was a scene where you saw a small sign of that.
Matsumoto: For the line “I like you”, Nagura-san directed me before the recording “It is absolutely not fawning. Please don’t go in the LOVE (romantic) direction.” I think it was a refreshing emotion and that she liked Riku as a person type feeling. I was also told “It’s okay to show happiness when Towa sees Riku like ‘Oh it’s Riku’”. Even though she doesn’t think it’s (romantic) love, it seems she’s always had this perception of “Riku’s not a bad person” and I think what burst out from that was “I like you”. The fact that Riku hugged her was something that lingered with her into the next episode, and it was very memorable.
Narita: Riku… … he can’t be overlooked in many ways (laughs). This won’t do, I can’t let him live. I guess I should cut him down in a single stroke!
Matsumoto: Fatheeeeer!! (laughs)
Komatsu: Like “I won’t forgive anyone who make a move on my daughter” (laughs)
— Riku’s wellbeing will be something to pay attention to in season 2 (laughs). Lastly please give a message to our readers who are looking forward to the second chapter (season).
Komatsu: First off, there’s what’s going to happen to Setsuna. I’m sure Towa, who’s been entrusted with things, will revive her in the second chapter (season)… … Personally, I want to see father-daughter interaction and a reunion scene with mother. I also haven’t given up on my dream of an exciting modern era school life! Just once is fine but I want an episode where everyone goes to the modern era, wears a school uniform, and takes Kirin-sensei’s class. Having it end as “it was all just a dream” is fine too (laughs). I believe there are issues as well like Inuyasha and Kagome being trapped in the black pearl, so I hope everything is included in the second chapter (season)!
Narita: Indeed, when I think about what all is going to happen, I can’t help but be curious. Coming to episode 23, I recorded with the girls for the first time but how are things going to be between (Sesshōmaru) and the girls going forward? I’m also curious about the relationships with Inuyasha and Kirinmaru. I’m just like the viewers in that I want to enjoy each episode one at a time. I’m truly happy to have encountered this work. I would be happy if everyone continued supporting us.
Matsumoto: In terms of hopes, I want Setsuna to be revived immediately at the beginning of the second chapter (season)… … Even if that doesn’t happen, I want Setsuna to be revived as soon as possible. I think there will be new encounters getting there. At the end of season 1, there was a character named Akuru that appeared along with the keyword “Windmill of Time”. I’m excited to see how those will connect into the second chapter (season). Another thing I’m curious about is the promise that was made to Mei, “We’ll come back for sure”.
Komatsu: Oh yeah
Matsumoto: I do feel that I want to see a scene where Towa says “I’m home” to the Higurashi family… … but right now I don’t want to go back to the modern era! Need to revive Setsuna and clean up everything before that! Riku, Zero, and Kirinmaru might show some new movement in the second chapter (season). Please look forward to it without missing the details!
Q. Who did you think was Towa and Setsuna’s mother?
Narita: I thought it was Jaken (laughs).
Matsumoto: The Mama Jaken theory! (laughs)
Komatsu: Even among the fans, there was the Mama Jaken theory in the beginning (laughs).
Narita: Well, Jaken stays close to Sesshōmaru the most and knows him best. If love was going to sprout, it would’ve been from Jaken. Plus, he’s a full demon.
Matsumoto: Master Jaken really looks at Lord Sesshōmaru after all.
Komatsu: In actuality, Master Jaken was both the educator and caretaker, so his position was like a wet nurse.
Narita: He might’ve been breast feeding them periodically. Demons seem like they can do anything (laughs).
Komatsu: I think Master Jaken guessed what Lord Sesshōmaru was feeling and thought “What is my role…”.
Narita: He probably can’t be by Sesshōmaru’s side if he doesn’t have that kind of anticipation (laughs)

Verse; Detroit: Become Human (Kim Kitsuragi)
Full name: Kim Kitsuragi Aliases: Kimball (don’t ask why...), Kimothy, Kimmo (he's not fond of those, don’t call him such, unless he likes you for some reason and excuses your ‘bad behavior’). Age: 43 Birthday: December 24th, 1995 Heritage: Korean-American Nationality: American Parents: Marleen Kitsuragi (deceased), Kenji Kitsuragi (deceased) Siblings: none Spoken Languages: English, Korean, French, German Sexuality: Homosexual Hair color: Black Eye color: Dark brown (almost black) Height: 5'10 (178cm) Medical file: farsighted (wears round glasses) Appearance: Slim, especially around the waist - described as ‘scrawny’ but lithe, with a flat, toned stomach as well as a defined upper body (ectomorph body type). Asian features, black hair (short and faded at the sides, a bit longer at the top, combed back), dark brown eyes, full lips. Rather big but slender hands with long fingers and neatly kept fingernails, long arms and legs. A hint of facial hair around his upper lip, sometimes on his chin, depends from day to day (he does shave, though). Usually wears a bright orange nylon bomber jacket, a pair of dark red leather gloves, brown pants and ankle-high military boots. Voice Example (audio on YouTube): [x] Affiliation: Chicago Police Department (formerly), Detroit Police Department (currently) Job: Police Officer Rank: Lieutenant Personality summary: A humble, friendly and polite man, but with a sharp mouth if needed. Speaks ‘sass’ fluently. Is very trustworthy, keeps secrets to himself and would absolutely throw himself into open fire to take a bullet for his partner - without hesitation. Despises racism, fascism, discrimination and intolerance, and will (verbally) put everyone into place who dares to discriminate or bully others in front of him. Swears rarely, but the occasional ‘shit’, ‘fuck’, ‘hell’ etc will escape his mouth from time to time. In regards to Androids: Kitsuragi has always felt a little... odd when it came to them. Not because he didn’t respect them - but quite the opposite, actually. Seeing people literally buying them from stores, using them for whatever purpose they liked, it had always hit a wrong nerve within his mind. To him, keeping an Android to do things people didn’t want to do themselves, came close to keeping a slave at home - and Kim despises slavery in any shape or form. Even though Androids are machines, they are highly advanced and the Android Revolution actually only proved Kim’s suspicions of them being more than just tools, more than an improved vaccum or toaster, and he feels even worse now thinking about how many Androids must have truly suffered under their owner’s mistreating hands. He does not discriminate them and is advocating equal rights with great enthusiasm.
Verse description and more details about Kim’s personality below the cut:
Verse desription | Kim’s backstory:
Born and risen in Chicago, IL, Kim is the only child of Marleen Kitsuragi, american, and Kenji Kitsuragi, korean. He was raised bilingual, allowing him to speak both english and japanese fluently, though it may did result in him keeping a rather prominent but soft accent when speaking english, despite having gone through the american education system for the whole of his childhood. It went as far as his parents even taking their son to a specialist at the age of 5, worrying he might be having health problems in one way or another, but this was quickly ruled out. It’s unsure why he has it, and he was eventually diagnosed with a minor, non-medical induced speech impediment. Oddly enough, his accent sounds a little like a french one.
He enjoyed a peaceful childhood up until the age of 7. Things changed rather abruptly for him on one faithful day, however, when his mother, his father and he himself were on their way toward the mall - a man, suffering from a mental breakdown, had chosen that exact day and time to run into the traffic jam during rush hour, armed with a loaded gun, and started to shoot at everyone who didn’t look ‘american enough’ in his opinion. He shot a young, chinese woman sitting behind the steering wheel of a red Honda Civic first, proceeding to do the same to her husband next, and then spotted Kim’s own, very much korean father inside the car right next to his own frame.
Things happened quickly - almost too quickly for the young boy to understand. His father got shot before he was able to even react to what was going on, and when Kim’s mother tried to crawl into the backseat of their car, desperate to protect her very much asian-looking son, she was shot into the back.
Another man died this day, who had happened to cross the street just mere seconds later - a japanese student. The man then proceeded to shot himself in the mouth, committing suicide before the police was able to intervene and stop it from happening.
Both of Kim’s parents died on their way to the hospital. With neither his mother nor his father having had siblings or other close relatives, Kim was transferred into an orphanage where he lived until the age of 18.
Despite this, Kim never had much trouble keeping up in school, able to collect almost perfect grades each and every year. It didn’t exactly improve the relationship with his classmates, however - next to facing racism on a nearly daily basis due to his accent and asian features, as well as being bullied because of him wearing glasses and his scrawny figure, the other kids were teasing him constantly for being the best in class. Had he tried to engage in fun activities with others at first, resulting in him always being ignored or pushed away in one way or another, he soon opted to stay by himself and keep interaction with his classmates rather limited instead.
Despite him being farsighted, his stellar grades allowed him to join the Police Academy immediately after graduation. It didn’t take long for Kitsuragi to become a juvenile police officer, working as such for almost 15 years before finally being transferred to the homicide devision.
He suffers from trauma-and-stressor-disorder because of this, and he tries to keep interaction with teenagers as limited as somehow possible in an attempt to not accidentally set off said disorder during work - he won’t let it affect his performance, however, and is able to push himself through most things for a certain amount of time if he needs to.
Keeping up his strong will and need to improve, Kim managed to climb the ladder of success rather quickly during his years of service, reaching the rank of Lieutenant at the age of 38.
Even though he’s been with the police for roughly two decades at this point, having witnessed technology developing quickly, Androids to be built and sold all across the country, he rarely ended up working on cases involving them - this was purely coincidal, however, not a choice he’d made actively in any shape or form as he had no say in which cases were assigned to him.
Having moved from Chicago to Detroit for undisclosed reasons - shortly after the infamous Android Revolution had happened within said city - he transferred over to the Detroit Police Department to continue his work over there. Captain Jeffrey Fowler had heard of him before, due to Kitsuragi being considered a ‘well-decorated officer’ with a ‘stellar reputation’, known within the internal Police network, and did not hesitate to invite him to become a part of the DPD.
Despite being admired from many colleagues for his achievements as a police officer, Kim does not see himself as special in any shape or form - and does not consider himself to be worthy of any additional attention than is needed, being humble about his own status (and his solved-cases-counter, currently lingering at 104).
Kim’s personality:
Kim is a rather soft-spoken, even-tempered man with a slight accent lingering in the deep of his voice. He strongly believes in being good to people, dislikes bullies and bad behavior toward the weak and will absolutely call people out on their shit if he witnesses them doing such. He loves cars and calls himself a ‘torque dork’, enjoys driving fast and listening to radio stations playing rather ... aggressive music (but he will deny that he ever listens to such in any shape or form, he feels a bit embarassed about it) - besides that, he’s also very crafty and tailors most his own clothes from scratch. He also loves to cook and do crosswords during his breaks while reading through the newspapers. Openly displaying emotions comes hard to him, he doesn’t feel comfortable with such - he is emotional, however, but likes to hide it from most people. He carries a blue notebook around and writes everything down in there when working on cases - but he also uses it for personal notes, hinting at the fact that he may has slight problems with remembering stuff he does not write down onto a piece of paper. His notes are almost illegible because he writes extremely fast, but he has no trouble reading his own words, even after months or years have passed since he’d written them down. Kim himself has been bullied and faced racism in his past - not only because of him being part-Korean, but also because of him being quite thin and wearing glasses. He’s also faced racism because of his sexuality - with some people not being open-minded (or even tolerant) within the world he lives in, he prefers to keep it hidden just to spare himself the words that would be thrown at him immediately. He got more important stuff to do, after all. (Yes, even though he usually keeps his cool, he is still hurt to this day whenever someone attacks him because of being korean, wearing glasses or being homosexual - he just learned to not let it show as much as it did many years back.)
All in all, he is a rather humble, quiet man with a sharp mind and an equally as sharp mouth, if needed. He speaks ‘sass’ rather fluently and likes to make the occasional remark from time to time in case the situation welcomes it. He is a polite, friendly man however, one who is trustworthy and keeps secrets to himself, helping wherever he can. He would totally throw himself into a crossfire to safe his partner and risk his own life in the process.

A Comprehensive Guide to Magic in Elena of Avalor
With Elena of Avalor coming to a close, I decided to compile a guide to every spell, enchantment, potion, magical creature, and artifact that appears in Elena of Avalor, including use cases, limitations, and other facets of magic. Some notes on notation:
italics - formal name and presumably canon spelling for an incantation. Spellings are based off how things are spelled in the iTunes subtitles except where noted
[transcription approximate] - cases where the subtitles were either vague, incomplete, or absent and I had to make my best guess based on other standard spelling conventions used in the show
“quotations” - spells that had backfiring or incorrect results, where its unclear if it’s truly a unique spell that just wasn’t intended to be used or just a mispronunciation of the actual spell in question
I’ll be updating the spell list as the last few remaining episodes air. Currently up-to-date through Día de las Madres. Spells are listed in order of appearance, with Elena and the Secret of Avalor being treated as episode 0. Follow the link to the Google doc or go below the Readmore to see the spellbook.
Let me know if you notice any obvious absences and I will update accordingly.

EDIT JANUARY 3 2021: The spellbook is now complete, at least in terms of content, all the way up through the finale. I’ve also corrected some spellings and added a few more miscellaneous magic descriptions. I’m still trying to sort out some updates for readability and organization, as well as approximate translations, but verion 1.0 is effectively done.
SCEPTER OF LIGHT SPELLS
Blaze - Blasting spell. Can destroy objects completely. Has the capacity to kill (or at least trap someone inside the jewel of its sister scepter) but not its primary function. Can be sustained with concentration.
Glow - Creates a bright light that can temporarily blind others, and banish magical darkness and creatures that thrive in magical darkness.
Reveal - Allows the caster to see through walls. The viewport is one-way. With additional concentration, can see through multiple walls at once.
Envision <noun> - Illusion spell. Projects an image of the stated noun that requires concentration to maintain. Can create multiple images at once, and even moving images.
Illuminate - Reveals invisible text. Requires concentration to maintain.
Waili telitsli la wheili y cawea senyowoh tonamit - [Transcription approximate] Ritual spell to seal away the Jewel of Maru. Requires the Scepter of Light.
Farsight - Scrying spell. Can view people or places from a distance when concentrated on. Assumed that it can be used on someone the caster has never seen but has not been confirmed.
Vanish - Invisibility spell. Can turn objects and people invisible. The last Level 1 scepter power that Elena learns.
Bloom - Creates a beam of light that when maintained, causes plants (and coral, which technically isn’t a plant but actually an animal composed of colonies of identical polyps) to grow. Possibly a Level 2 power, since it isn’t brought up until after Elena learns vanish, which Quita Moz states to be the final Level 1 power.
Magic deflection - Extra ability of the Scepter of Light after being powered up by the crystal forge of Takaína. No incantation required; simply striking the scepter against the incoming magic will deflect it. Unclear if this works on any spell or simply on offensive magic.
Truesight - Shows a projection of a past event to reveal the truth. Nicknamed “tattletale vision” by Flo. A rare case where the name of the scepter power is not the same as the incantation used to evoke it. Instead, it is activated by asking a question or saying “show us.” Extra ability post Takaína.
Seal it - Creates nearly indestructible crystals while maintained. A sword cannot break through them but the Moyacu’s jaw strength can. Notably the one spell that doesn’t seem to have an obvious connection to light. Extra ability post Takaína.
Ignite - Starts fires. Only used post Takaína, but unclear if this is a new scepter power or just a Level 2 standard power.
SCEPTER OF NIGHT SPELLS
Demolish - A blasting spell, but apparently not the Scepter of Night’s equivalent of blaze.
Inferno - Creates dark fire. Can be counterspelled by blaze, though it seems to be more the equivalent of ignite. The Scepter of Night’s most powerful ability, but dramatically drains the user’s strength.
Obscure - Temporarily blinds targets with cloud of red smoke. Likely the Scepter of Night’s equivalent of glow.
Chaos - Temporarily disorients and confuses the target.
TAMBORITA SPELLS
Illuminara <Name> Wayohel - Summons the chanul of the named individual. Apparently only requires the individual’s first name. Possibly requires a degree of concentration on the specified individual, since although the name ‘Alacazar’ is reasonably unique, I find it hard to believe there’s only one ‘Mateo’ in the entirety of Avalor.
Tlahcuilolli apartad, Tlahcuilolli apareced, Tlahcuilolli vivid - Ritual to reverse the enchantment that sealed Francisco, Luisa, and Isabel inside a painting. Chanted while striking a tamborita in a rhythm.
Vetzi - Basic knockback spell. Strong enough to cause damage to terrain but causes no lasting damage when used on a living creature.
Llévaluq/llevaluq/levaluq - Levitation spell. Can be used to lift one or more people and/or objects. Requires concentration. Also used to catch falling people and/or objects and lower them gently to the ground. A note on spelling: the former two are the ones used in the subtitles, but the spell is consistently pronounced as if it starts with one ‘L’ instead of with the Spanish ‘Ll’. The root word of the spell can’t be reliably used to determine the appropriate spelling, either, since both ‘llevar’ (to carry) and ‘levantar’ (to lift) could make sense in the context of a levitation spell. For the sake of my sanity and consistency with Fanon spellings, I’ll be using levaluq for the rest of this document.
Mortoloz jaquirando - Mortoloz appears to be the standard prefix for illusion spells, since it’s used in tandem with other words later. This specific variety conjures one or more sparkly images of jaquins.
Akatok - Petrification spell. Turns the target into a stone statue, and they remain unaware of events around them until the spell is reversed. Supposedly permanent after the next sunrise following the spell being cast, but can be reversed after an indefinite amount of time with the Maruvian Spellbreaker potion. When cast improperly, produces an ecatuul like effect, for some reason.
Ximocu - Shielding spell. Creates a deflective barrier around or in front of the caster that can reflect magic and physical hazards.
Bajaluq - A lowering spell. The opposite of levaluq. Unclear what the specific use cases are since it’s established that levaluq can also be used to carefully lower things.
Meyázami - A spell to bring the targeted object to the caster. Exclusively used by malvagos.
Canaza - A spell to bring the targeted object to the caster. Exclusively used by good-aligned wizards. It’s never explained why this spell in particular has a good and evil version.
Boqato - A knockback spell. Appears to be a more concentrated blast than vetzi. Presumably meant to be the malvago equivalent of the spell, but Mateo casts it once while offscreen in “The Jewel of Maru.” We don’t get to see if the spell works for him or not, though.
Solaza - A blasting spell. Treated as a wizard’s rough equivalent of blaze. Can destroy objects or blast holes, but appears to be less destructive than blaze since it doesn’t destroy the weathervane it makes contact with in “Nothing But Blaze”. Unclear what its effect on living creatures would be, since so far it has only made contact with objects, unless you count water spirits as alive, because that guy got obliterated.
Talact - Completely immobilizes target. Unclear if they are aware while immobilized. Can be reversed by zanamo, but unclear if this is the only way to undo it or if it would wear off after a certain amount of time.
Zanamo - Standard reversal spell. Dispels magical effects set by the caster. Olivia claims that it doesn’t work on other people’s magic, but Mateo once tried to use it to dispel Chiloya’s magic, and was confused when it didn’t work. In the context of that episode, it’s stated to have not worked because the enchantment on Chiloya’s ship prevented the use of any other magic, but the fact that Mateo still tried it implies that he expected it to work, despite someone else having cast the spell he was trying to dispel. Seeing as that was still in season 1, it was possible he just wasn’t an experienced enough wizard to realize it wouldn’t work regardless. As an additional discrepancy, it’s used in the spell to reverse someone’s malvago transformation, despite the initial spell being cast by someone else.
[Unknown Aesthetic Spell] - A wordless spell that changes background for a song in “Navidad.” Seeing as other characters are also able to change the background without use of magic, it’s possible that this was just done for flavor and is not an actual spell.
Nochecer - Creates a dome of magical darkness. Can be dispelled by glow.
Chihufeti - Creates a controlled burst of fireworks. Apparently an “advanced spell.”
“Chihuleti” - The mispronounced version of chihufeti. Creates an uncontrolled burst of fireworks. Unclear if this was just a result of chihufeti backfiring or if chihuleti is its own spell.
Yotzi - Spirit spell. Necessary for making a yotzi potion for banishing spirits. Unclear what it does beyond that.
Mocachi - Abundance spell. Used to create more of the liquid it’s cast on within its container. Unclear if it exclusively affects liquids.
“Moyotzi” - Conjures a water spirit when cast on well water. Unclear if this is a spell in its own right or just a backfiring effect from Olivia mixing up the abundance and spirit spells. Unclear what its effect would be when cast on other materials.
Desparci - Vanishing spell with a limited strength. Not powerful enough to banish a powered up water spirit. Just punches a hole through it instead.
Conglari - Freezing spell. Freezes a target solid, provided the target is not more powerful than what the caster can manage. Reversible by some means, but we’ve never seen it reversed on screen. Possibly zanamo would work? When cast improperly, it picks up the fire effect of the anchimon and ricochets it around, for some reason.
Mortoloz imagenar - Displays a sequence of illusory images in a magical viewport. Presumably the images displayed are controlled by the caster via concentration.
Mortoloz chihimagenos - Creates an illusory adversary that can be dispelled by contact.
Mortoloz cahuimatla - Creates an illusory timer in the shape of an hourglass.
Cachoa - Generates a gust of wind. Can be sustained without direct concentration, or can be just a short burst. The sustained variant can be dispelled by zanamo.
Latopo - Similar to chihufeti, creates a burst of fireworks.
Grandeluq - Enlarging spell. Works on objects and on people. Possibly doesn’t work on food, since Mateo apparently needs to make a potion to enlarge apples, anoki berries, etc.
Esfumarse - Dispels the illusory images of Victor and Carla Delgado. Unclear what this spell actually is. Possibly the way to dispel mortoloz variant spells? Possibly another generic blasting spell? We may never know.
“Hualaca” - [Transcription approximate] A wake up spell. Turns the twin xolo statues into actual giant dogs. Apparently bears verbal similarity to a speed up spell.
Nitla abrax conzaportil - An unlocking spell. We never get to see it in action.
Quittiz - Reveals invisible text. Similar to illuminate, but the text remains visible even without active sustainment of the spell.
Zapota - Opens the sealed doors of a Maruvian temple. Unclear how it interacts with locks.
[Unknown Light Spell] - Nonverbal spell to light torches, but since it’s cast during a musical number, we don’t get to hear what the incantation actually is, and it hasn’t been used since.
Boqata/poctaka - Unclear if it is a vanishing spell or a teleportation spell, but it creates a cloud of smoke that renders the caster and those standing near them not obviously present. A note on spelling: the former spelling is used when Fiero casts it in “The Race for the Realm”, the latter used when Victor casts it in “Song of the Sirenas”. Seeing as the effect is the same, they’re being treated as the same spell despite the drastically different spellings.
En cualani en malvago, en acualli en malvago, en catzacti en malvago - Ritual to transform someone into a malvago. First case of a “double hit” spell, though the concept of those types of spells isn’t introduced for several more episodes. Can be reversed by a wizard using the same incantation but ending with zanamo. Unclear if the target has to be willing or if this could forcibly transform them. The transformation includes: creating a tamborita, even in the absence of a chispa, a clothing upgrade, and (presumably) bestowing dark magic that operates in some sort of fundamentally different way than standard wizard magic, since there are curses that require dark magic to undo. Despite the unorthodox creation of the tamborita, the tool itself is apparently not the source of dark magic, since Mateo briefly threatens Victor with Victor’s own tamborita in “Naomi Knows Best”, but was unable to simply use a malvago tamborita to undo the sealing curse on Ixlan in “The Lightning Warrior”; rather, a malvago was a specific requirement to undo the spell. However, the malvago tamboritas are not utilized by the good-aligned characters at any point after the capture of the Delgados, even when the spare standard tamboritas are destroyed and new ones are needed, so there’s likely still some magical taboo against a wizard using a malvago tamborita.
“Hualoa” - Makes horses and coach run in rapid circles. Unclear if this is a spell in its own right or if this was just a backfiring effect from a mispronounced mualoa.
Mualoa - Speed-up spell.
Calooz - Dispels mualoa.
Ecatuul/ekatuul - Creates a powerful tornado that disappears after a short time. Its direction can be directly controlled, or it can be allowed to fly off on its own.
Oncholoz - Some sort of levitation or flight spell. Only used once, by Fiero, during his fight with Mateo in “Song of the Sirenas.” Not the malvago equivalent of levaluq, since Ash uses that spell later in the series.
Cepayák - Conjures a snowstorm that can rapidly spread across large distances.
Cepayák yamanák - Dispels a snowstorm. A double-hit spell. If cast incorrectly, it causes the snowstorm to worsen and spread even further.
Anahun - Imprisons creatures (or evil vases) in the Creature Compendium created by Alacazar. Requires a potion to reverse.
Clausanda - A shielding spell that puts up a large protective barrier around an area and prevents exit from said area. Presumably prevents entry into the area as well. Can be dispelled by another repetition of clausanda, even by another spellcaster. Notably discovered on a page from a spellbook describing Orizaba and the Eye of Midnight.
Doblecazán - Duplication spell. Creates an identical copy of the targeted object. Unclear if there are size or material restrictions on the spell. Unclear how it would affect living creatures.
Calterra - Used to dispel a possession spell that was afflicting King Joaqín. Possibly the spell that was used to control him in the first place, but we never see that cast. Unclear what the degree of direct control the caster has over the target while the spell is active. The possessed speaks in a monotone and has awkward, stilted movement, but still has their own handwriting.
Bilicú - Immobilization spell. Differs from talact in that the target is still obviously aware of what’s happening around them and can still speak. Also, their body can be physically manipulated by others, such as lowering their arms or taking things out of their hands, which does not seem to be the case with talact.
Emenari - Causes the target to emulate the motions of the caster, at least from the waist down, so that as the caster walks away, the target walks with them. The target is still able to move their arms freely.
Despoloz - A destruction spell, similar to solaza. Destroys the jewel from the Scepter of Night, which not even the high-powered blaze that destroyed the rest of the scepter could do.
Contali - A powerful blasting spell that proves fatal if it lands a direct hit. Dissipated enough to be non-fatal if blocked with a tamborita, but destroys the blocking tamborita (though not irreparably) in the process.
Macaquentia - Takes the clothes of the targeted person and puts them on the caster. Size and body shape differences do not seem to be an issue.
Cochimoc - Sleeping spell. Puts the targeted person to sleep, and can affect multiple people at once. Duration unclear.
Talazia - Throws the targeted person or object. Can act like a powerful knockback spell or be used to lift and throw an object.
Quamoti - Creates a barrier wall that prevents passage through it. Presumably does not require active concentration to maintain, and only lasts for a brief amount of time.
Calanía - Another speed spell. Dramatically speeds up an individual or targeted group, to a degree presumably controlled by the caster. On the small scale end, can speed up an individual horse. On the large scale end, capable of allowing a group to cross oceans in a matter of seconds.
Pesari - Creates trail of fake footprints for an indeterminate distance.
[Unknown Animation Spell] - Animates a suit of armor to attack a nearby adversary. Unclear if it is acting entirely on its own, on a simple instruction, or being directly controlled, although the latter seems unlikely since Mateo is mid-musical number at the time he casts it.
Siletzi - Silencing spell. Covers the mouth of the target. It’s dispelled by the caster snapping, however it’s unclear if this is built into the spell or if that was just a nonverbal cast of zanamo.
Cahua - Shielding spell. Creates a single pane barrier that dissipates magic rather than reflects it.
Huyacalli - Enlarging spell. Unclear what the distinction between this and grandeluq is, but there must be something going on there since Mateo insists he would’ve needed a potion to achieve this same effect prior to learning this spell. Possibly intended exclusively for edibles?
Pantoto - Changes one kind of bird into another kind of bird. Unclear if the resulting bird is random or if the caster selects it.
Quixcapa - Flips a person upside down, except then it flips them right side up again and seems to function like levaluq after that point until dispelled.
Ixotaz - Reveals the Dalia Salida on its bush.
Vetzilli - A powerful knockback spell. Based on the root of the word, it is likely the next level up from vetzi.
Portaliz - A blasting/knockback spell. Fairly nondescript.
Cascamo - Covers the ears of one or more people and prevents them from hearing anything.
“Reversamo” - Spins the caster (or their tamborita) around. Unclear if this is an actual spell or just a backfiring effect from an improperly formed spell.
Reveloa - Presumably, a revealing spell. Clears the roots blocking the doors of Chatana’s sealed chamber and the water blocking the Shadow Gateway.
Tlalt-ilitzli - Some sort of showy levitation spell. Unclear what the distinction is from levaluq or quixcapa. It might also conjure music?
Ayamín - Blocks an area or group of people from being scryed on. Duration unclear.
Quicana - Removes bindings. At the very least, removes bindings made of spiderwebs. Some of these spells have excruciatingly specific use cases so it's entirely possible it’s limited to that.
Levoltario - Levitation spell, similar to levaluq. Unclear why there’s a distinction. Regional dialects of magic, perhaps?
Flotamío - Levitates someone to the ground, similar to bajaluq.
Velatzi - A pushing spell, likely similar to vetzi. We never actually get to see it.
“Levatzi” - A vanishing spell of some kind. It’s unclear if the affected area is invisible or gone completely. Likely the former, since it can still be struck by spells. Also unclear if this is an actual spell or just a backfiring effect.
“Colarci” - Color changing spell. Creates a polka-dot pattern on the affected area. Unclear if the color can be specified by the caster, or if this is even an actual spell rather than a backfiring effect.
“Mongarki” - Unclear what this spell does. Something gross and unpleasant to look at, apparently. Unclear if this is an actual spell or a backfiring effect.
“Vicarsi” - Turns the target into gingerbread. Powerful enough to affect the palace and everyone inside it. Unclear if this is an actual spell or a backfiring effect.
“Vamoosi” - Distraction spell. Creates a puff of smoke and sparkles. I filed this under the “possibly not an actual spell” notation because I’m pretty sure it’s just supposed to be a joke, but there definitely was a magical effect so it still made the list.
Choctli quatic - Creates one or more tamboritas by fusing a chispas with the physical drum-wand. Unclear if a specific shape is required or if a chispa could be fused with anything, or at least with any drum-like object. It’s possible regular drums can be used, since the very first chronological use of tamborita magic in the series is actually done with a drum rather than a drum-wand, though it’s still referred to as a tamborita.
Mitzomo ticarsi - The reversal spell to turn something back from gingerbread into its normal material. Unclear if this is the only use case for this spell or if it can be used to restore things from other materials as well.
Cahuetzi quicaniz - A dark magic spell that reverses dark magic encasing spells. Repeated three times for the whole ritual, though the tamborita is only struck once.
Campatic - Opens and holds the mouth of the Moyacu. Unclear what the generic intended effect is. Must be maintained by the caster, and requires obvious physical effort to do so, which is rare for tamborita magic.
[Unknown Light Spell] - Produces a generic glowing effect that swirls around in front of the tamborita for a second or so.
Quitanzi - Similar to farsight. It projects an image of a faraway scene, and though it can work around the cloaking spell that impedes farsight, it does not include any sound. Shows a more ¾ view of a wide scene rather than farsight’s eye-level viewport.
Pitzini. Coyoni. Cehualli. Yohalli. - Ritual to open the Shadow Gateway and free the Shadows of the Night. A multi-hit spell, although unclear how many times the tamborita must be struck. The words are chanted 3 times, and the tamborita is struck at least 5 times over the course of the chant.
Malatza - Rapidly spins the target around like a top, to the point where they can spin away.
Ayahut - Imbues the targeted object with a paralysis effect, so that anything it strikes is held completely in place. Unclear if it wears off after a certain duration or a certain number of strikes.
Hui tlalli yot - A triple hit spell designed to banish creatures to the Spirit World. Possibly the spell that wiped out the Maruvians long ago. Has a chance of backfiring and banishing the caster and their allies instead. Apparently difficult to maintain, this is the rare case of a tamborita spell taking a physical toll on the caster.
WAND SPELLS
Vadisima - Destruction spell that completely obliterates target. Capable of destroying the barrier conjured by ximocu, but cannot blast through it. Fatal on contact with a human, barring intervention by magical amulets.
[Unknown Youth Spell] - A nonverbal, topically applied spell that removes wrinkles and age spots at the place touched.
Obscura - Darkness spell that covers the sky in storm clouds.
POTIONS
Akatok reversal potion - A potion to reverse the effects of the spell akatok. Must be used before the next sunrise to be effective. Only a drop is required to undo the entire effect, allowing a single batch of the potion to be enough to restore an entire room of people. Contains extract of whistle weed.
Yotzi potion - Banishes spirits. We never see it used. Requires the spell yotzi to be cast on it. Won’t solve your mouse problem.
Potion to break El Guapo curse - Breaks the possession curse on the sword of El Guapo, at least insofar as allowing the afflicted person to release the sword. Does not completely destroy the curse on the sword. Apparently takes hours to brew.
Enlarging potion - Makes fruits bigger when poured on them. Makes creatures bigger when consumed. Unclear how it affects other items, but apparently has distinct use cases from spells like grandeluq. When made improperly, it shrinks things instead.
Reversal potion for enlarging potion - Restores an enlarged creature to normal size when consumed. Presumably not the same as a shrinking potion, since a normal-sized object doused in it does not seem to be affected.
Human shapeshifting potion - A horrible smelling potion that when consumed, changes the physical appearance of the drinker, including their clothes. Does not last for an indefinite amount of time and wears off gradually, with the drinker’s appearance slowly turning back to normal. The effect does not fool mirrors.
Ensmalling potion - Shrinks creatures on contact.
Disappearing potion - Causes creatures to vanish on contact. Unclear if they’re just invisible or if this functions like desparci where the creature is intended to be vanished to… somewhere else.
Maruvian Spell Breaker - Can reverse the effects of the spell akatok, even after an indefinite amount of time. Unclear if this is supposed to be the same potion as the original akatok reversal potion and the writers just forgot about the time limit (which seems like a weird thing to forget given that it was such a significant plot point in its introduction episode) or if it really is something distinct.
Jaquin shapeshifting potion - Transforms someone into a jaquin of a conveniently similar color scheme to their own when poured on them. They remain transformed for an apparently indefinite amount of time until the spell is explicitly reversed by another potion. Fools mirrors, unlike the human shapeshifting potion.
Jaquin shapeshifting reversal potion - Reverses the effects of the Jaquin shapeshifting potion and restores the affected person to human form.
Releasing potion - Frees a creature (or evil vase) from the Creature Compendium when dripped onto the corresponding page. Thankfully doesn’t seem to soak through to other pages when poured in large quantities or “Movin’ On Up” would have been a much more challenging episode.
Ungilding potion - Reverses the effects of the noblin’s golden touch when poured on an affected object or creature.
Book spell reversal potion - Reverses the spell that sealed Alacazar’s spirit inside of a book to restore him to human form. Requires jaquin eggshell, mist of butterfrog breath, an indeterminate amount of other presumably common ingredients, and a petal of the Dalia Salida. The ingredients must be placed in a pouch and shaken in a rhythm while the associated spell is chanted.
A potion to magically inspire magnificent singing - Spreads a curse that compels people to break out into spontaneous song and choreography with no discernable music source, with the exception of whoever drinks it. Contains spidervine sap, McGuffin oil, and a lock of the caster’s hair, and then must be consumed. Unclear if the resulting effect is the intended one of the potion; Mateo points out that Armando messed up in making it, but doesn’t clarify if the potion was made incorrectly and thus produced a result different from what Armando expected, or if Armando misinterpreted what the potion was for in the first place.
Reversal potion for singing potion - Breaks the spontaneous musical curse. Contains spidervine sap, and is activated when the caster of the original curse sings. Rather than being consumed or poured, the potion just absorbs the curse back into the bottle.
Smoke cloud potion - Creates a cloud of smoke that dissipates after a short time.
Color changing potion - Changes the color and pattern of the creature it’s used on. Unclear if it’s completely random or if the pattern is decided by the brewer.
EMOTION MAGIC
Happiness - Yellow dress. Possible effects include: conjuring butterflies, growing flowers, compelling others to sing and dance, bringing inanimate objects to life, conjure rainbows
Anxiety - Purple dress. Possible effects include: making objects spin, creating rockslides, bringing paintings to life, making people run around fast (after consuming magical chocolate, specifically), bringing statues to life, breaks objects, making people dance ballet
Anger - Orange dress. Possible effects include: making objects fly around, bringing inanimate objects to life, turning a faucet to spray someone, cause dreams to manifest, summons aggressive vines, summons Esteban, lift large chunks of the ground
Calm - Cyan dress. Possible effects include: calming enraged creatures, restoring anxiety-activated magic to normal
Love - Pink dress. Possible effects include: calming enraged creatures, restoring anger-activated magic to normal, conjuring flowers, shape hedges
Sadness - Blue dress. Possible effects include: turns fountain spray into rain, conjure localized rain, compel others to cry
Self-doubt - Grey dress. Possible effects include: shrinking surrounding area
Forgiveness - White dress, gold detailing. Possible effects include: Reversing the magic of the Four Shades of Awesome
ESTEBAN STAFF MAGIC
Teleportation - Transports a person or object from one place to another. There are a few variants on how this ability works. Tapping the staff on the ground transports the user and surrounding people to an alternate location, typically not within view, and if the user has poor control, they can end up in random locations nearby. It can also be used by pointing the staff at a person or object and then pointing to the desired new location. Has a limited range, but with two people using it, it can even reach the Spirit World.
Farsight-esque - Scrying spell. Presumably, similar requirements and restrictions as the Scepter of Light’s farsight power apply.
Canaza-esque - Likely just the teleportation power again but it seems weird that an otherwise instantaneous teleportation effect would result in a magical beam battle, so this gets a separate listing. Presumably more powerful than canaza, seeing as it was also dragging Mateo across the ground.
NONSTANDARD SPELLS
“I wish to be small” - A power of the Amulet of Avalor that Elena bestowed upon Sofia during the events of Sofia the First. Shrinks Sofia down and is reversible upon her command. Still works even after Elena is freed from the amulet.
Shapeshifting into mermaid - A power of the Amulet of Avalor that Elena bestowed upon Sofia during the events of Sofia the First. Transforms Sofia into a mermaid on her request.
Ritual to free Elena - Wrapping the Amulet of Avalor around the wand that was used to seal Elena inside of it, and then placing it upon “The Crown of Aziluna” raises the statue of Aziluna from below the water (though not permanently) and frees Elena from the amulet. Unclear if the statue is specifically required or if Aziluna himself could have reversed it.
Nonverbal, wandless spell to change writing - A quick hand gesture to add a small piece of writing to a document. Unclear what the restrictions are on the length of the writing, the duration of the addition, or other factors, but can at least add a five-letter word. Unclear if there is an associated incantation for casting with a tamborita.
Mázico quitemo pok - Cast with a mázico to forcibly send someone to the Spirit World. The caster presumably has no control over where the target ends up.
Mázico místico más - Cast with a mázico to bestow the target with spirit guide stripes and all their associated powers, including the ability to traverse between the spirit and human world and locate the people they’re meant to guide. Unclear what would happen if cast on something that isn’t a spirit.
Purun - Forces the target to dance. Cast with a feather. Unclear if this is also a valid tamborita spell.
Assorted Chiloya spells - Chiloya can also use his feather to dispel purun and cause items to vanish.
The immortality spell - Enchanted the Alegría so that all those on board remain immortal. Once a year, the ship can pick up new crew members that also fall under the spell. No other magic works on board the ship except for that of the Captain. Unclear if it’s possible to ever leave the ship once the spell has taken hold.
“Magic from the great beyond, turn this stone into a wand” - The incantation to turn a magic-infused gemstone into a usable magic wand. Fails if the stone does not have enough power in it.
Amaláy’s conjurings - Despite being a ghost, Amaláy can still make use of magical abilities; although it could be that these abilities are due to her being a ghost. It’s unclear which. She performs magic to conjure a windstorm and manipulate floating masks, and both these spells are unspoken.
Coyo mote tozaza - Reveals hidden writing on Commander’s Rock and opens (and closes) the door, provided a jaquin paw is in contact with the switch stone outside.
Nonverbal, wandless silencing spell - Briefly seals the mouth of the target so they can’t speak, although they can still make noise. Possibly a variant on siletzi.
Vaya raya mística - A spirit guide spell to transfer one’s spirit guide stripes to another spirit. Requires contact between the two spirits.
Regresa raya mística - Spirit guide spell to reclaim one’s spirit guide stripes from another spirit. Requires contact between the two spirits.
Cuan metzli alza el atl, mocentlalia mágica de cihupilli a mi - Incantation for a ritual to siphon away another’s magic. Performed by holding the jewel from the Scepter of Night over the spell’s victim at moonrise. The incantation is repeated at least twice for the full ritual, and the jewel must be exposed to the moonlight. Unclear if this ritual would only work on Elena or if it would work on other magical individuals or creatures as well. Potentially fatal to the target of the ritual. Unclear if the magic is siphoned into the caster or into the jewel.
Assorted Zopilote magic - Zopilote can shapeshift at-will into a vulture, summon items to him without a wand, and shoot blasts of magic without a wand. It’s unclear if these are abilities specific to Zopilote or if he is simply casting non-verbal magic. He does use a tamborita later to perform at least the latter two abilities.
Caja coyó hina loyá - [Transcription approximate] The incantation associated with the use of the book spell reversal potion.
Nahua cencama momaquá - Old Maruvian releasing spell to break magical seals. Translates to “magic word escape.” Can be cast with a tamborita, but can also be cast by just reciting the words. It’s unclear which situations necessitate a wand to be used with the incantation.
Nahua cencama cazá - Old Maruvian disempowering spell that both removes the Chiki-Chiki’s ability to curse others and reverts the curses it had already cast. Unclear if this disempowering spell is specifically designed for the Chiki-Chiki or if it would work on other magical creatures as well. Does not require a wand to cast.
Nahua cencama quazicá - Old Maruvian sealing spell to imprison creatures. Does not require a wand to cast. Unclear why this is different from just closing the door to the shrine it was cast on.
Chatana summoning rituals - “Legs of spider black as the night, wings of an eagle, a web woven tight, fast as the wind, sharp as a bite, conjure a creature to give them a fright.” Conjures arañaguilitas. “Jellyfish, grow kraken size, with mighty wings and opal eyes.” Conjures a giant jellyfish. “Tiburón teeth and dragon fire-” Presumably would conjure a shark-like creature. Presumably all require Chatana’s diadem to cast, but unclear if anyone else would be able to replicate this effect even with the diadem. Chatana can also shoot generic blasts of magic.
Assorted Bronzino effects - Bronzino produces multiple magical effects, often without a tamborita, making it difficult to gauge which are spells, which are sleight of hand, and which are just flavor for the musical number, so they’re all grouped here for simplicity’s sake. These effects include: conjuring flowers, appearing in a puff of smoke, voice throwing, conjuring and dispelling conjured lions, growing muscles, conjuring a tea set, conjuring a flying shark, turning a flying shark into flowers, conjuring money, conjuring a crowd of people, conjuring a horse, and making a fountain spray water in patterns.
Coyo nahua kalikwah - Old Maruvian revealing spell to expose a magically disguised passage.
“Toktlee choktlee hekuppah” - Likely supposed to be toctli choctli hekupa, given other standard spelling conventions. Restores a withered chispa plant to a healthy state.
Tlaso tonatu, tlaso mestli, tlaso tipak - Ritual to supposedly create a circle of peace. Chanted while pacing in a circle and shaking a bundle of herbs. Unclear if there’s an actual magical effect.
MAGICAL CREATURES/ENTITIES
Jaquins - Flying jaguars capable of speech that are native to Vallestrella. They lay eggs to birth their young and seem to have a consistent, species-wide preference for the taste of anoki berries. Young jaquins can fly and speak in simple sentences shortly after hatching. Jaquins are specifically the only creatures that can open the gateway between Avalor and Vallestrella, but it’s unclear if they have any specific supernatural abilities beyond that.
Chanuls - A type of spirit that acts as a guide to humans, providing them with advice when they’re struggling. Wizards can conjure and speak to their chanuls with a spell. Each chanul has multiple humans that they’re tasked to guide, but it’s unclear if there is a cap on the amount. Chanuls must train before they are granted the magic stripes that let them pass between worlds to advise their humans.
Noblins - Small, purple, bipedal creatures capable of speech and at-will shapeshifting into dogs. They can also blow large gusts of wind and turn objects and living creatures to gold with a single touch. This effect is not reversible by the noblins themselves, but can be reversed by other means.
Rocadors - Large creatures that appear to be made entirely of stone and live near volcano peaks. They have some sort of bond with their volcano of residence such that they can cause it to erupt when their tempers flare. They can also cool their bodies by calming themselves. Unclear if the species as a whole is prone to struggles with anger management or if it’s just a wacky coincidence that the two rocadors we’ve met had that problem. Unclear what the status of a rocador’s volcano is once it moves out.
The Yacalli - A very polite and powerful giant that guards the bujitos of Cordoba. He wakes up when their homes have been endangered. Unclear if he has any supernatural abilities beyond existing.
Duendes - Mischievous elves from another world that can turn invisible at will for an unclear duration. Three especially significant ones can use their jewels to form a key that opens the portal to their world. Speak in a jabber.
Marposas - Bright purple dolphin-like creatures that lay eggs on the shore and have very devoted parent/child relationships.
Orizaba - A moth fairy that lives in the spirit world and gains the ability to cross into the human world during a total solar eclipse. She is only able to stay as long as the sun is blocked, and light harms her by burning holes in her wings and stifling her powers. Her powers include flight, shooting blasts of magic, and conjuring swarms of moths, which can be used to bind others, snuff out torches, and form shapes.
Troyo - A talking coyote with super speed.
Zanies - A group of especially eccentric spirits that live in the Loop of the Spirit World. Prone to making random strangers their rulers.
Water Spirit - Large, humanoid entity made entirely of water. Grows stronger by absorbing more water and can shoot blasts of it at adversaries. Unclear if this entity was created or summoned from a different world.
Butterfrogs - Brightly colored frogs with butterfly wings native to Vallestrella.
Velociervos - Brightly colored, exceptionally fast deer native to Vallestrella.
Peabunnies - Brightly colored rabbits with peacock tails native to Vallestrella. They have an elaborate friendship ritual involving dancing.
Flaringos - Brightly colored, remarkably relaxed flamingo-giraffe hybrids native to Vallestrella.
Sunbirds - Large and powerful feathered serpents that live for centuries and have an assortment of supernatural powers, including shapeshifting, projecting illusions, and restoring power to magical items. At least one has proven capable of divination, and can listen to the flames to see visions of the past and predict the future. One other was reportedly a powerful magical healer, such that even a statue of him can break powerful magical curses.
Marimonda - A forest sprite with powerful nature bending magic. She can create vines, trees, flowers, and other plants at will and in large amounts. Very agile.
Chonopos - Mischievous creatures said to come out from the underground during thunderstorms after three consecutive lightning strikes. They play pranks on people, like stuffing mud in their socks, stealing their food, or putting rocks in their pillow. Unclear if they’re real creatures or not, since they’re never seen in the show.
Sirenas - Aquatic humanoid people with fishlike tails and the power to sing a hypnotic melody that lures sailors into crashing their ships. Certain sirenas can turn their tails into legs when they go on land, based on their parentage. They only eat seaweed and kelp. Unclear what their relationship is to the mermaids that exist in other parts of the EverRealm.
Cuco & Ocho - A talking hippocamp and octopus, respectively. Unclear if they have any supernatural abilities beyond that.
Malandros - Talking, shapeshifting river dolphins. Whatever they shapeshift into seems to always have the purple color scheme of the malandros.
The Macoco - A two headed, talking sea beast. A powerful swimmer, and also capable of walking on land.
Kupi-Kupi - A creature capable of cursing people so that they run backward for an indefinite amount of time. The curse is cast via eye contact. Very agile, and speaks in a jabber.
Anchimon - A small, fiery imp that starts fires wherever it steps. A powerful jumper. Speaks human language, but only in small, broken phrases. Created by Chatana.
Chatana - A winged sorceress with the power to create magical creatures of varying degrees of sapience. Gains her power from a golden diadem that she wears. Unclear what she is capable of without it. Unclear how others would be affected by wearing the diadem themselves, but presumably it’s usable only by Chatana, since otherwise there would have been no reason for Ash to recruit her once she had the diadem in her possession.
Dragallos - Fusion of a lizard and chicken that can eat disproportionately large amounts of food very rapidly. Capable of treating even typically inedible material, like rocks, as edible. Native to Vallestrella, and a rare case of a Vallestrella creature not speaking human language, instead just communicating in a jabber. They can move at fast speeds by rolling up.
Alpacamundis - Fusion of an alpaca and a coatimundi. Native to Vallestrella.
Snurtles - Fusion of a turtle and a snail. Very slow. Native to Vallestrella.
Chiki-Chiki - A small blue gnome created by Chatana that curses people with a never-ending laughing fits when it touches them. Can be rendered harmless by a disempowering spell, at which point any already cast curses break as well.
Pili - A talking weasel conjured by Chatana with the ability to spit small bursts of fire.
Sea Nymphs - Humanoid women with nature bending powers, specifically over water. They can raise and lower precise sections of it at will, even in areas where they themselves are unable to reach. They can also create and destroy barriers that can imprison other sea nymphs, along with magical, concealing fog.
Tziloco - A magical, talking bat with the power to shapeshift into other creatures. He can also use his wings to detect when he or someone near him is being scried on.
Arañaguilitas - Baby spider eagles created by Chatana. They fly in swarms and shoot entangling webs.
Kizin - A giant created by Chatana. Capable of speaking, but uses babyish speech patterns. His skin deflects magic, with the exception of a small patch on the bottom of his left foot.
The Moyacu - A giant sea beast that guards La Isla de Yalcatura. Large enough to eat small ships whole and has a strong enough bite to break the crystals conjured by seal it, making it the first thing we’ve seen powerful enough to break them.
Giant Jellyfish - A giant jellyfish created by Chatana. Has a powerful, electric sting and can float through the air.
The Four Shades of Awesome - Formerly known as The Shadows of the Night, this group of four powerful magical entities destroyed the civilization of Maru long ago before the Jewel of Maru was used to seal them away. The specific entities are detailed below.
Vuli - The Chaos Shade. With a single touch, he can cause the targeted creature to behave erratically. The affected creature seems to still have awareness and control of their actions, but their perceptions are skewed in such a way that they may attack their allies or take other abnormal actions.
Yolo - The Animal Shade. Can shapeshift at will into another animal or forcibly shapeshift another creature into another animal by firing a ball of blue magic at it. Implied that the resulting creature is random, even to Yolo, but that may be a choice on his part. His powers can affect the other Shades as well.
Hetz - The Weather Shade. Can conjure powerful, localized thunderstorms, and can be destroyed by his own power.
Cahu - The Time Shade. The most dangerous of the shades. She can slow down time in a localized area by turning her hourglass on its side, and she can freeze an individual or an object in time in the form of a stone tablet by striking them with a sand grain.
Grand Macaw - The eccentric ruler of the dark side of the Spirit World. Has a fondness for parties, olaball, and ambiguous promises. The only spirit that can allow a mortal that has fallen through the Shadow Gateway to return to the human world.
MISC
The Amulet of Avalor - A powerful Maruvian relic with an assortment of powers. It can draw its wearer inside of it to protect them, trap others inside as a prison, dole out powers and curses based on the will of someone contained inside of it, or acts as a more general wish granting artifact when someone is not inside. Bestows magical powers upon someone trapped inside for a long duration.
Wand - A type of arcane focus usable by certain spellcasters. Made from gemstones that have already been imbued with magic. Spells are cast by pointing the wand at the target and saying the corresponding word or words, but apparently there is some additional factor required to use one. Certain spells can be cast wordlessly.
Tamborita - A drum wand used by Avaloran and Maruvian wizards. Made from a variety of materials. A regular wizard’s tamborita gets its power from a gem called a chispa, but a malvago tamborita gets its power from another malvago casting a ritual on it. Spells are cast by pointing the wand, striking the drum, and saying the corresponding word or words. Some spells take multiple hits to cast. Presumably, a skilled wizard can cast certain spells without a verbal component.
Scepter of Light - A Maruvian arcane focus created by Amaláy, the final Royal Wizard of Maru, and powered up by a dip in the magical well of Takaína. In its original state, it could control light in all its forms, and had a finite list of spells revolving around that principle. Unclear what the extent of its powers are in its new state, but can now manipulate physical matter as well by creating crystals. Capable of destroying the Scepter of Night, but apparently not the scepter’s jewel. Only channels ‘good’ magic. Glows when in contact with someone with powerful good magic. Spells are cast by just pointing the scepter and saying the corresponding word or words.
Scepter of Night - A Maruvian arcane focus considered equal and opposite to the Scepter of Night. Never explicitly stated to have also been created by Amaláy, and depicted as being wielded by an unknown spellcaster on the walls of Tepet Muul. Presumably, it can control darkness in all its forms. Capable of damaging the Scepter of Light, but is ultimately destroyed by it. The pieces can be safely separated and put back together, but the parts are inert while separated, save for the jewel, which can be used in other dark magic rituals. Spells are cast by pointing the scepter and saying the corresponding word or words.
Magic cell bars - Enchanted, glowing green bars used to imprison the Noblins under Shuriki’s rule. Unclear what benefit they provide over regular prison bars, since they vanished upon Shuriki’s defeat.
Fountain of Youth - A magical spring located on the vanishing isle of Santalos. Drinking the water makes the drinker younger, presumably in rough proportion to the amount of water consumed. The effect occurs in fairly abrupt stages and does not kick in immediately after drinking.
Aging flower - A magical flower located on the vanishing isle of Santalos. Eating petals of the flower makes the consumer older, presumably in rough proportion to the amount consumed. The effect kicks in much faster than the effect of the water from the Fountain of Youth.
Enchanted journal - A notebook formerly owned by Alacazar that has been enchanted to reveal clues that lead to the discovery of the hidden Codex Maru. Each clue is revealed as the former is solved, with the exception of the first, which is revealed by the Royal Wizard asking the book where to find the Codex. Probably a good thing it was Mateo that ended up in the position.
Eye of Midnight - A powerful Maruvian jewel that can freeze a solar eclipse in place when the jewel is placed atop the Sun Stone in the park. It can be destroyed by glow, and once destroyed, the frozen eclipse will end.
Alchemy - A process that seems to be somewhere between chemistry and potion making. Capable of turning liquids into solids and back without temperature changes. A beginner's form of magic, but unclear what its practical uses are.
Invisibility spell/potion - Something is used to turn the statuettes in Realm of the Jaquins invisible, but we never see if it is a spell, potion, or some other kind of magic. The objects themselves are rendered invisible, though they still leave shadows.
Quita Moz’s magic jars - Enchanted jars used to contain magical creatures. Anything that partially enters one is sucked inside and trapped when the jar is closed. It can be freed by opening the lid.
Cursed gecko statuette - A small golden gecko statue that transforms anyone who takes it from its pedestal into a giant gecko. The curse can be broken by returning the statue.
Coza Kex - An enchanted fire opal used by the Maruvians to punish wrongdoers with a “dose of their own medicine.” The curse is inflicted by contact with the stone, and undone by reversing the action that the stone deemed inappropriate. The stone can adjudicate these wrongdoings and curses on its own, without any input from a spellcaster.
Enchanted masks - A trio of full-head masks shaped like a bird’s head, a crocodile’s head, and a bull’s head. When worn, they partially transform their wearers into the creatures they depict. The curse is broken by removing the masks. Unclear if more of these masks exist.
Jewel of Maru - Supposedly, the most powerful magical jewel in the Kingdom of Maru. Powerful enough to drive back the forces of darkness that escaped from the spirit world, but also completely wiped out the Maruvians in the process.
Cursed sword of El Guapo - A sword that once belonged to a General that called himself “El Guapo”, and now contains his disembodied spirit. When held, Guapo’s spirit hijacks the wielder’s body and exercises a limited amount of control over it. He can control it in totality for unclear periods of time, but if the host’s and Guapo’s objectives are not aligned, they fight for control of the body, with Guapo having varying degrees of control over different body parts. The sword also returns to the new wielder’s hand regardless of measures taken to contain or dispose of the sword until the curse is broken. The curse can be broken with a special potion, though it only removes the spirit from the host body, not the sword.
Nico Quixo - A large, magical, Maruvian hammer than when held, hammers whatever is in front of it automatically. Can drag its user roughly around if they aren’t strong enough to control it.
Milagra - A special type of seaweed that acclimates people to the water. When wrapped around a person’s torso, it allows them to breathe underwater, and when wrapped around their legs as well, it transforms them into a sirena. The sirena transformation does not become permanent until the tail stops glowing.
El Escudo - A shield enchanted to block magical attacks. Operates like the spell cahua, where it stops the magic short rather than redirecting it.
Red Avari blossom - A plant that when eaten, can reverse a sirena transformation, provided that the transformed sirena’s tail has not stopped glowing yet. Grows on Isla Botigua.
Vidaflor - A dandelion-like plant with seeds that can temporarily restore youth to someone by blowing the seeds onto them. Very rare.
The breath of life - An enchantment obtained by touching the forehead of the statue of Aziluna. It manifests as a glowing orb of light that can restore life to the dying when they inhale it.
Grotto Metamo - A cavern in Vallestrella that contains a magical tree, capable of forcibly transforming people that come into contact with its roots. To transform a creature, one must say the name of the desired creature, and the next thing to come into contact with the roots is transformed permanently unless the one who called the transformation decides to turn them back. Direct contact is not necessary; simply coming into contact with water that the roots are in can also cause the transformation.
Sunbird Temple Curse - A chamber of a Maruvian sunbird temple enchanted to curse the people inside it if anyone raises their voice too much. The curse in question shrinks the occupants, and can be reversed by a simple enlarging spell.
Crystal forge of Takaína - A well of magic crystals underneath a temple in Tepet Muul. The crystals hold immeasurable power, and reportedly contact with just one is enough to grant a person powerful and potentially dangerous magic. Falling into the well grants an enormous magical boost, along with a costume change. The Maruvians made all their magical artifacts at this forge. Presumably can’t be teleported into.
Fire stones - Some type of magical reagent found only in Paraíso. Unclear what their specific use is.
Salma - A silver guitar that places people under a trance when they hear music played on it, with the exception of the one playing. The affected can be distinguished by an eerie blue glow washing out their regular eye color. While under its spell, they perform any orders given by the one playing, even to the point of attacking their allies.
Bolagro - A bag that’s enchanted to fit anything inside, regardless of size. The bag stretches around whatever it is trying to contain, and then shrinks back down to its regular size. Implied to only be able to hold one thing at a time.
Ixlan’s gloves - A set of gloves enchanted with powerful lightning magic that drastically enhance the power of the wearer’s blows. Unclear if they only work for Ixlan or if another wearer could utilize their full power.
Quita Moz’s closet - A pocket dimension used for storing magical artifacts like the crystal tamborita and sending people on Wonderland-esque quests. Either contains a myriad of magical creatures living in the pocket dimension, such as golden noblins, a talking jaguar, and tiny glowing ghosts, or just conjures elements as needed for the quests. Likely the latter given the presence of Peaches the guinea pig and the grumpy butterfrog.
The Shadow Gateway - A portal to the Spirit World located under the ocean just outside of Nueva Vista. A sigil on the wall of Nueva Vista lights the way to it. The portal is specifically used to trap the Shadows of the Night within the Spirit World, and a mortal entering through the Shadow Gateway can only be returned to the human world with permission of the Grand Macaw.
Potion-holding arrows - Arrows designed to hold small amounts of potions in the arrowheads, so that the potion can be activated on the arrow’s contact with a target.
