The Face I Hide Behind, Pt. 2 {Peaky Blinders}
Pairing: Thomas Shelby x Reader
Summary: You met Thomas Shelby as Eli Carter, your hair shorn short, your chest bound, the Royal Engineers crest proudly adorning your uniform. You find him again as discarded Marie Tillerson, a woman shamed but remembered.
Warnings: PTSD, panic attacks
Notes: Thank you all for your lovely reception of this fic. The amount of views and kind comments are so incredibly encouraging. Hope you enjoy part two just as much as you did part one.
Part one can be found here.

*
Tick.
The sound wakes you immediately. Your eyes snap open and you wait for another. It arrives a moment later just as you expect, soft but sharp. There’s a rhythm to it, a timing that matches the second it takes to pull a pickaxe down and drive it into rock.
Your breath catches in your throat and you sit up sharply, your nerves instantly engaged for a fight. Your eyes sweep over the room, searching desperately for the source of the sound as it continues. Not real, you tell yourself. It’s not real, just an echo of bad memories demanding an encore. Your limbs ache at the thought and you suck air in through your nose, willing the oxygen to clear your head of the fog. You remind yourself that your time in the tunnels is long past, that you walk above the dirt and the mud and the dust and not beneath it. You remind yourself that the air hasn’t smelled of blood in almost a year now.
Tick.
Swallowing hard, you slowly lower yourself back to the bed. Tom is warm beside you, a thrumming anchor, and you focus on the slow rise and fall of his chest, desperate for an easy distraction. His eyelashes flutter for a moment, his own dreams careening about in his head, and then the ticking comes back for a fifth round, a sixth, a seventh. You narrow your attention as best you can to the deep black of each of Thomas’s lashes as they graze against his cheeks.
Tick. It's louder now, chipping through the plaster. Tick. You wait for the burst of dust and curl your fingernails into your palms.
Something moves in the wall to your right.
You swallow a yelp, bolting up from the bed again, sure that the moment you gain your feet, you’ll be back in a hole, buried and gasping and never having left at all. But better to face the enemy on your feet than cowering in a corner.
As you land with a soft thump on the carpet, it feels for a moment as if the whole world has gone silent. The room tips momentarily around you and you lean your hands into the bedside table, swallowing back a wave of nausea.
Tick.
Tock.
You blink at the small gadget sitting inches from your hand and your arms begin to tremble. Adrenaline speeds through your bloodstream, a shouted order to move faster, run farther, hit harder, even now as the threat reveals itself to be nothing.
“Goddamn clock.”
Plucking the device from atop the table, you march into the kitchen, desperately fighting the urge to chuck it through the window. It’s not yours, something in the back of your thoughts says, so throwing the thing out or bashing it to pieces wouldn’t be right. You can be civil, even in the throes of panic.
You turn the clock over in your hands and the pulse of the second hand seems to smack against your palm through the glass. The sound of its ticking still sends a rocket down your eardrums, despite knowing now that it comes from a regular, everyday tool and not a person and you drop the clock to the counter with a hiss. Panic rises into your throat again as each second ticks by like a stab in the gut, hammering incessantly at your earderums.
You step back for just a moment, swaying with anxiety, and you listen hard for it, that soft voice nestled right below the din of sound bouncing around in your head.
“Keep that brain busy.”
Tom had dropped a rolled-up newspaper into your hands once- some new puzzle an American had brought over with him, he’d said later when you found him to demand the origin of the game.
“Did it work?”
It had, though you hadn’t expected it. Giving yourself something to do with your hands had been enough to bring you out of the long nights of sleeplessness and the moments of heart-rattling mania below ground.
It can work now too, you tell yourself, taking in one long breath. If you can’t shut it out of your head, you can shut it down with your hands. Your fingers pinch the bridge of your nose just hard enough to feel the pain, then you carefully pick up the clock again.
You’re not sure how long it actually takes you to dismantle the thing. Not long, you imagine; before the war, you quite enjoyed taking clocks apart, to your father’s chagrin. Each timepiece had a specific list of requirements, a checklist of dos and don'ts that allowed it to work in perfect tandem. Each wheel and spring and catch had to work with the pieces around them. When they didn’t, when a wheel wobbled or when a spring budged and bucked from its proper location, the whole machine failed. The whole thing operated off of its individual parts working together.
You like that about machines. They are predictable and they rely on a set of rules and a set of values to function. Like people, you suppose, though Tom was always better at navigating those while you preferred to stick to your formulas and algorithms.
You pluck the second hand from atop the clock face and the room goes suddenly still around you.
The absence of sound is so starkly different from the moment before that it’s nearly dizzying. Your shoulders sag with relieved exhaustion and you press one hand to your mouth to keep the creeping hysterics sealed inside your throat.
“‘Ey.” You flinch as Thomas’s voice interrupts the silence, bouncing against your eardrum even from the other room. “Everything alright?”
His voice is heavy with sleep, but you’re well aware he’ll come looking if you don’t answer quick enough. Even so, the truth is too embarrassing and you can’t quite admit to a man with a stone face and an even harder shell that you haven’t managed to beat your nightmares back, even now.
“Yeah. Just getting some water.”
You lean over the sink and slowly ease the faucet on. It’s a good enough cover, wil be a relief for your throat and the pounding in your head anyway. The glass is cool against your skin and you down the water quickly, suddenly parched. As you place the empty glass down, the contact sends the softest of ringing echoes rippling out across the tile counter. It’s reminiscent of what woke you, just enough to make you fidget. But the ticking is gone and you’re responsible for that fact. Surely, that’s enough of a task to reward yourself with some rest.
With a sigh, you shadow your way across the room back to the bed and silently crawl back beneath the covers.
Thomas’s eyes follow you, half glazed with sleep but still watching. You wonder if he ever entirely switches off that ever-constant observation.
After a moment, seemingly satisfied with what he sees, he turns onto his back again. The man goes so still that you think he may have fallen asleep again, but then an arm drops down over your shoulders.
"Settle down, Carter."
There's no need to correct him. Not when the name feels just as familiar as Tillerson, as Marie, and not when hearing it again makes you feel like you're home.
There should be some kind of decorum to your actions, when it would be so easy to call you strangers. But Tom is warm and you're too tired to bother with such proper conduct when it's likely neither of you care for that kind of thing anyway.
Your head drops to Thomas's shoulder and you curl one arm around his torso. The smell of cigarette smoke and cedarwood seeps in through your pores and you sigh against him.
He shifts beneath you, his breath halting in his chest for a moment. You think perhaps that you misread the action and an apology spills from your mouth. You begin to pull back, but then his arm shifts from your shoulder to your side. His thumb drags carefully along the curve of your hip, feather light.
It feels like a brand, like his thumb is a match striking alight right along your ribcage.
There's a beat, a moment you can practically see the gears whirring about in his head without even looking at his face. Then his chin settles atop your head and Tom breathes again.
You fall asleep like that, safe and comfortable and home, and it's the sun that wakes you after, nothing else.
*
“So you’re off then?”
He’s trying to remain passive, you know. There’s a kind of forced neutrality in his voice and you can see it, the nights before a plan was put into action, the few spare minutes before a battle where Thomas Shelby stood amongst a throng of men and convinced them what came next was inevitable.
You glance up at him and for just a moment, your heart rises into your throat. The urge to lock your hand around his wrist, to drag him down the steps behind you and disappear, the both of you, to wherever you’d like, is almost too much. He wouldn’t say yes. Shouldn’t say yes. You know this without asking. He’s got his family. He’s got this town. And he’s got a name to make for himself, or so he’d said the night before, when you were both heavier into the drink then you should have been.
He belongs here. And you don’t. Not yet. Not anywhere just yet.
“For now. Things to see.” Things to become.
Thomas nods, his eyes flicking towards the window, then to the pockets of his coat. He digs into one of them, plucks his lighter out with a focused kind of impatience. But as he lifts it to the cigarette dangling from his mouth, you step forward. Your hand circles around the lighter, pulling it from his grip with the silent demand that he pay attention.
This is important. Goodbye, however temporary, is important.
“I’m going to write you, alright?” Thomas pauses, his eyes stilling on your face this time, and he seems to wait, sensing a promise. It is one, really, when you think about it. You owe him that at the very least.
“I’ll keep you informed on where I’m at, remind you I’m still around.” Your thumb taps against his lighter, your offer solidifying in your gut as you straighten in front of him.
You turned tail last time. Forced or not, you left him alone on the battlefield. It’s a mistake you won’t make again.
“And you can make sure I don’t fall off the map again. Deal?”
You lift your chin, your nerves scattering as he considers you and the words you’d spent the last morning hours crafting so carefully. Slowly, he steps forward, so close you can feel the heat of him against you, and his fingers bump against yours to slide his lighter back into his palm.
“Deal.”

✨Come with me, and you'll be
In a world of pure self-indulgence.✨
Hello Poppies! I'm IronRye. I make OCs/FCs, a sona here and there.
I have a large extensive list of original characters and fancharacters.
Over Sixty characters. Twenty-eight OCxCanon ships. Nine OCxOC ships. 7 self-insert Sonas at the time of posting.
I thought it'd be cool to lay out a list of sorts for my tumblr page as I'd like to continue posting other media related fandom stuff on here as my other socials are pretty quiet and the idea of running a different blog for every fandom I've ever been in and ever will be in sounds dreadful.
Starting with a visual! My collection of personas, this list is gonna be long and my sonas are the only ones that come with art, but I hope you find some enjoyment out of this.
Emma, Eva, Erin, Rye, Eden, Elaine, and Eleanor.
Open to any and all questions. Can be general questions for me in general as well, not just about these characters. No ask is off the table. 😉

She left Zevran behind.
He did not yell, or protest, or put up a fight. He simply took her hands in his and pressed his forehead to her own, and of all things - of all the things he could have said to her in what was almost certain to be their last moments together alive - he recited poetry. He wiped away the tears threatening to spill from her eyes, and he whispered for her and her alone.
She gasps with the force of a genlock’s blow to her side, stabs the creature with vicious retaliation, and tosses it aside like common waste, Loghain already waiting to drive his shield into its forehead. Fire burns in the middle-distance, the stars above obscured with the growing haze of smoke.
Do not go gentle into that good night, Zevran told her.
She tastes metal as she hits the ground. Morrigan’s revitalization hits her with a rush of adrenaline, and as Sten guards her, Loghain helping her up, she spits blood out with vigor. The next hurlock falls, and the next, the fire creeping ever closer.
For a moment, a single moment, there is a hole in the smoke, and through it, the sky above her vast and unknowable as the day she first saw it, Dianna Aeducan makes out the trail of a shooting star.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

I have no idea on the Aline part (I say a-lean).
Charlotte and Henry’s little girls are never stated so perhaps they are ya born yet and Cassie said everything in the family tree isn’t true but will make sense.
As for Grace I was under the impression that her power came from her bracelet because she was holding it when she made Matthew kiss her and James never started to have romantic feelings for her until he got the bracelet. He pitied her.
From the family tree we know (supposedly) that Jace descends from James and Cordelia, Alec and Izzy descends from christopher and grace *gag*, and Emma descends from Alastair. Like you said the blackthorns have to descend from Jesse and clary from either Matthew or Charles.
I don’t think Malcolm Fade knows the truth about Annabel yet. He still think she’s in the adamant citadel.
Maybe Eugenia will come back in the next book since Barbara died and Cordelia’s drama.
Chain of Gold
!!!!!!!!!!!SPOILERS FOR CHAIN OF GOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I read it and all i can think about is the characters. like who is safe and going to survive the end of the Last Hours. Like James, Cordelia and Lucie are going to survive. but we don’t know which Fairchild (Matthew or Charles) will have the children that eventually become Clary. We know Gabriel and Cecily’s descendants are Alec and Izzy because Magnus thinks that Alec looks a lot like Will and the Lightwood name must continue meaning Christopher could still die as he has a younger brother Alexander. Alastair could die as his and Cordelia’s mom is pregnant and that could be a boy who can have kids who will along the line become Emma. There is mentioned that there aren’t any Blackthorn cousins for the manor to go to, meaning that Jesse would have been the only one to carry on the name and have kids, but he is dead meaning something has to happen which makes Jesse comes back to life. Thomas may not live as in The Mortal Instruments there is no mention of Lightwood cousins with the same name, meaning also that only one of Cecily and Gabriel’s sons (Christopher and Alexander) can survive unless there lines end up at a point with only daughters who can’t keep the name.
Also i just keep thinking of Thomas and Alastair being a thing because there interactions just seemed to be in a way that makes me see romance, but i don’t know if that will happen because in my mind i am just thinking that if they do have a relationship one will die.
Also Grace’s bracelet is definitely making James obsessed with her. he needs to get rid of it as the marriage to Cordelia needs to be permanent and not only a year. i hate Grace Blackthorn as she is a bitch.
If Grace was the only Cartwright left which is why she had to go to Tatiana then where does Jon Cartwright come from. In Tales From The Shadowhunter Academy, Jon is in the shadowhunter stream meaning he is a born shadowhunter not an ascended one meaning there has to be other Cartwright’s or did somebody ascend in the interim meaning he was still born one.
Why in TMI did they not accept Magnus Bane and Alec’s relationship, because of the fact he was a Warlock and Alec say he wont marry Magnus until it is recognized by the Clave when the Clave accepted Will and Tessa’s marriage in a less accepting time because ii got the vibe from what Alec said as to be based on Magnus being a Downworlder not a man, as they had previously allowed Helen and Aline (how do a you pronounce Aline because i go a-line but that feels wrong) TID was before TDA which is when Alec said about Clave not allowing it, even though they had already allowed it before.
What happened to Eugenia, they keep mentioning her and something happened i guess she had some pre-marital shenanigans but why cant that be openly admitted in the book.
Why is it only now that the demon Belail ( spelt that wrong but i cant remember how you spell it) has waited this long to try to take over James, if the demon world he goes into was always controlled by him why would he wait until James was the age he was. Wouldn’t it be easier to take control of a child.
Why is Charles unlikable, i mean he was raised by Charlotte and Henry, how could he not be amazing. Why would he break off his engagement to Ariadne wouldn’t that be the perfect cover for the both of them, Ariadne could be with Anna and Charles with Alistair but he broke it off and got engaged to Grace was it her voice, did Grace use her voice to make Charles get engaged to her like she made Matthew kiss her.
Why didn’t Malcolm Fade get revenge and bring annabel back sooner it just seems weird to me.
I have so many questions so @cassandraclare if you see this please answer.
If anyone else has answers please say.

Under Enemy Fire PT. 2
A Shay Cormac x Reader Story
Word Count: 1,670 Warnings: Explicit Language, Mentions of Death
Author’s Note: Hi...I have no excuse for not updating this :D. Enjoy! -Thorne
“Did you know she could fight, Master Haytham?” His eyes flit from the pages of the book to the man sitting across from him.
He inhaled, snapping the book shut with a crack that seemed to echo inside the carriage. “Surprisingly, Shay…no.” He paused, gaze shifting to the window. “But a great deal of things are now becoming clear about her that had been hidden before.”
“Like?”
“She’s been trained. From birth…much like I was when I was a child.”
Shay regarded him a moment. “Did your father teach you?”
Haytham nodded. “He did, as did other teachers when he died. I suspect Lady (Y/N) has had masters of all kinds train her.”
“Why keep it hidden?” Shay wondered aloud, arms crossing over his chest. “If she’s the only living child of one of ours, that means at some point she’ll have to take over for him. Why not go ahead and establish herself in the Order?” He looked to the templar across from him. “I think we can both agree that she’s strong enough to hold a high position in the order…higher than me.”
Haytham went silent a moment, then hinted, “Perhaps she’s been waiting for a more opportune moment to reveal herself.”
“And when would that be? When she’s found a suitable partner?” He frowned. “If that happens and she marries, she’ll lose the inheritance. She—” Shay shut his mouth, a look of amazement crossing his face as he remarked, “That must be the reason she’s refusing all the suitors. So that she can keep her inheritance.”
Haytham merely tipped his head to the side. “We’ll never know until we ask.” The hunter turned his eyes to the manor in the distance, settling back in his seat as they arrived.
The doors opened and as they climbed out, they were met by a stoic man. He turned, letting them pass before addressing, “Masters Kenway and Cormac, welcome to the (L/N) manor. I am Jameson, the family butler.” They nodded. “I regret to inform you that Lady (Y/N) has yet to return from her morning activities.”
Shay cocked an eyebrow, quipping, “And what are those? Balancing books on her head and needlework?”
The butler simply looked to the manor doors. “Swordsmanship and hand-to-hand combat, in fact.”
The templar went silent as Haytham let out a rare snort before asking, “Shouldn’t she be practicing in the manor?”
Jameson hummed as they climbed the steps, and he opened the doors, letting them inside. “She was earlier, but then she went off into the woods for a bit of hunting.”
“What’s there to hunt?” Shay had taken to picking at the trays of food on the dining table, much to Haytham’s dismay.
“Other than the normal wild animals such as bobcats and deer, nothing special. She simply leaves and returns hours later with a few pelts.” The butler handed Shay a handkerchief, watching as the Irishman thanked him. “A few years ago, there were poachers on the lands. After multiple requests for them to leave, she gave them a final warning to leave the land or she would take matters into her own hands.”
Haytham arched an eyebrow. “I assume they didn’t take her seriously?”
Jameson nodded. “She came home that night covered in blood. We did not ask…and she did not say.” He cleared his throat, motioning to the table. “She requested you to stay in here if she had not returned in time. But I suspect she should be back soon.” The two nodded and he bowed his head. “Then I shall take my leave.”
He disappeared down a hallway, and Haytham reached over, whacking Shay’s arm. “Quit eating!” He hissed, glaring as Shay dodged another swing to shove one of the hors d'oeuvres into his mouth.
“Oi, it’s here for us! We might as well eat it!” The Grandmaster grunted, turning his eyes to the forest behind the manor; he could feel Shay lean close, gazing out the window as well. For a moment, neither spoke, then the hunter muttered, “Please don’t tell me we’re going to do what you’re thinking about.”
Haytham stood straight, making his way to the back door. “We are.” He opened the door. “Come along Shay, we’ve a huntress to collect.”
Shay groaned, but conceded, keeping in step as they made their way across the field. “This is going to take forever.”
“It certainly will if you keep blathering about it.”
“Well begging your pardon, sir, I didn’t expect to be tracking down a master huntress.”
Haytham tossed a look over his shoulder. “That’s your possible betrothed you’re speaking of.”
The hunter felt is cheeks warm and he grunted, stepping over a fallen tree branch. “It’s a little early to call us that. We just met a week ago.”
“And yet, you seem captivated by her already.”
“Speaking of betrothals, if her father is the one having her meet with members of the order…have you and her…you know…”
Haytham let out a sigh, reaching up to run a hand down his face. “Oh, for God’s sakes. That’s where you’re taking this conversation?”
Shay shot him a grin as he passed in front of him. “I was simply wondering if the two of you were set up for a possible marriage. What are you talking about, Master Haytham?”
The other templar shot him a pointed look. “It’s honestly surprising that you haven’t been shot yet.”
“Oi, I’ve got the scar on my shoulder blade to counter that.” He waved a hand. “Really though, were the two of you introduced at some point?”
Haytham hummed. “We were. That’s how she and I met a few years ago. I’m surprised I didn’t see through her façade back then.” A silence stretched between them and he glanced over, ribbing, “Don’t think about it too hard, Shay. Your brain might explode.”
Shay snorted and shook his head. “You seem to enjoy her presence…you definitely respect her. The two of you are from well-known and respectable families…why didn’t the two of you marry then?”
They stopped in the middle of a clearing, and Haytham said, “I do respect her. I can count on one hand how many women I genuinely enjoy being in the presence of and she is one of them. I asked her if she would want to marry, but she politely declined.”
“Any reason why?”
“I didn’t ask.”
Neither spoke and Shay looked into the forest, sighing, “We’re never going to find her. This forest spans hundreds of acres.” He met Haytham’s eyes. “She could be anywhere.”
Before he could respond, a voice sounded from above. “Giving up so soon?” The two templars reacted like startled deer, spinning on their heels to gape at the woman crouching atop the hunting platform. “I figured you would at least try and find me.”
Shay cocked an eyebrow. “How long have you been following us, Lady (Y/N)?”
She turned her head, nodding to the way they came. “I saw you come up the pathway…then I heard you enter the forest.” (Y/N) looked back at them before descending the platform, landing a few feet away; she stood, slinging the musket across her back as she made her way past them. “With all due respect, Master Shay, you are rather loud.” Haytham let out a chuckle as the hunter began to silently gripe. “I apologize for not being back before now. I made the mistake of leaving my pocket watch.” (Y/N) paused, looking at them. “I do hope you can excuse me for my tardiness.” They waved her concern off and she nodded, turning back towards the manor. “Not that I do not mind the visit, but I am curious as to why you are here. This does not feel like a friendly house call.”
At that, Haytham finally spoke up. “We came to speak to you about your position within the order.”
Though her steps faltered a bit, she was quick to hide it. “Even though I am not a templar?”
“You’re good at lying, Lady (Y/N), but you’re not flawless at it.”
(Y/N) spun on her heel holding a challenged spark in her eye. “I have seemingly fooled you and the rest of the order for a few years now.”
Haytham stood apart from her, steely gaze matching hers as he countered, “And now it is crystal clear that you were the one who helped to conquer the bases in Boston from the assassins a few years ago.”
She pursed her lips, then tipped her head in agreement. “That is a fair point, Master Haytham.” (Y/N) waved a hand. “So, what is my position within the Order? I cannot imagine many will be accepting of me taking up a spot.”
“Why do you say that?” Shay inquired.
She glanced at him. “Have you met half the men who are Templars? They are sexist pigs who would rather order a woman around than listen to one.” (Y/N) sent a withering glare to Haytham. “If you even think of putting me under any of the men from Boston, especially Hickey or Lee, I will put them six feet under.”
He narrowed his eyes with a rather amused fashion. “You truly hate Thomas and Charles, don’t you. Lady (Y/N)?”
“I despise them.” She corrected. “Hickey is crude and salacious, and Lee cannot seem to pull his head from where he has shoved it up his ass since becoming a Templar.” She let out a huff, then took a deep breath to calm herself. “They might be efficient at their jobs, but they sully the Order with their actions and behavior.”
“I think you’ll do fine where I’m going to position you.” Haytham said.
“And where will that be? Here in New York? My standing already dictates I oversee much of the business within the city, even Templar business.”
He smiled at her, though his eyes were holding a humored look. “Oh, have no fear, Lady (Y/N). I’m actually putting you on the Morrigan.”
She and Shay both had the same reaction. “WHAT?!”

Harbored Secrets {Peaky Blinders}
Pairing: Thomas Shelby x Reader (gender-fluid former soldier from "The Face I Hide Behind")
Summary: It's been a year since you reconnected with Thomas Shelby in Small Heath. Letters can convey a lot. But personal identity and your own brand of nightmares are easier to convey in person.
Notes: This is for my friend, @everythingelseisextra. He has motivated me and encouraged me to develop this character into who they really are, even beyond my own safe little comfort zone of topics. This one touches on PTSD and discrimination, but also gender fluidity in an era where it was often something no one talked about, acknowledged, or accepted. Marie/Eli kind has steadily shown themself to be bigender and it's an important part of them I wanted to explore.

No one was supposed to have been down here. William had said it was clear and you, Tom, and Danny had shuffled down into the muck behind him. It was supposed to have been easy- “bury the mines and scramble.”
But sometime between Will’s report and your team slipping inside, the situation had changed. Two Germans had found their way inside and waited, cloaked in shadow, until everyone’s back was turned. They’d made quick work of Danny, like silent dogs leaping for their prey and digging their sharp teeth in before any of you had noticed you weren’t alone.
You’d been distracted with your notes, unfolding them and quietly reminding Tom of where each device should go when he stood suddenly, drawing his gun. He’d always been an impeccable shot and even in the dim light of the tunnels, one of the Germans went down with little more than a gasp, a bullet buried in his chest.
But the second one was quicker. He emerged from Thomas’s left like a bat, all fangs and claws and blind speed and before your friend could counter, he dragged his blade across the man’s throat.
Tom stumbled, fell to his knees, and a shout tore out of your mouth, grieving and guttural. There was a scuffle, Will shouting to you about getting out as his weapon met with the German’s. The screech of metal on metal was shrill, an alarm that insisted you move, but you couldn’t leave without Tom.
You reached down fast, your hands desperately trying to stem the blood seeping from the deep slash across his throat. He gaped up at you with wide, unseeing eyes, and his hands closed around your own.
“Carter.”
Your name wheezed out of his lungs. It was insistent but muffled, as if someone had stuffed your ears with cotton, then given you an order. But it was your name. It was your name, here below the trenches, on the lips of your dying comrade as if your moniker was important enough to be a last word.
"Stay with me. Come on, Tom."
Your voice came out ragged and pleading and your body rocked forward as you tried to pull him to his feet. He didn't respond, his body sagging into yours as you stood.
“Dein Freund wird es nicht schaffen.” The soldier from before wagged one finger at you from a few feet away. Behind him, Will lay motionless in the mud. “Carter, ja?”
The soldier pointed at you, his eyes glittering in the dark. Blood dripped from his knife, mixing thickly with the mud that caked your boots.
He advanced forward suddenly, dropping his weapon to the ground. He yanked Tom away from you, then clapped both hands around the base of your throat and squeezed. You struggled against him, your fingers locking around his wrists, trying desperately to pry yourself loose.
"Carter." His eyes were wild, nothing but fire and hate. Your name spilled from the soldier’s lips like a mantra, breathless and desperate, a plea even as he cut off the last of your air.
You didn't know him. You couldn't remember his face or his hands or how this stranger could possibly have grabbed hold of your name.
You just knew his grip was tightening. Then with a resounding snap, your windpipe buckled underneath the pressure of his knuckles. The makeshift cavern you and the rest of the Company had dug for yourself collapsed into darkness around you, burying you and your fallen comrades as if you never existed in the first place.
*
“Carter!”
Your eyes snapped open and air rushed into your lungs so quickly it was painful. Feeling rushed back into your fingers and your hands automatically latched onto the ones pressing up against your chin. There was too much light, too much air, building in your ears and your lungs until all you could hear was a roar.
You moved. Like a wound spring, you rocketed upwards and pressed your knee hard into your assailant’s gut. He grunted, twisting underneath you, and it took a moment for the haze in your eyes to clear. It came to you slowly, where you were, that it was a pillow underneath your palms, not dirt, that you were in your smalls, not your uniform.
And that it was Tom, clean and alive and whole, lying beneath you, not some intruder lurking in the dim light of the lanterns.
“Carter?”
You blinked, trying to separate what you were seeing from what you saw. The moments didn’t match- one where Thomas Shelby breathed, startled but watching you with patient, cutting eyes. And then the other, where the same man slumped to the ground, his gaze blank and lifeless.
“You’re alive. Jesus, you're alive."
Your head dropped to his chest and your whole body sagged against him, spent tension racing from your muscles far too quickly. The sudden shift left your body aching and a tremble quaked through your limbs.
You flattened your fingers against Thomas's stomach- he was here, he was alive, not a bloodied corpse forgotten underground. You grabbed at his hands, counting each digit, positive that they would dissolve into memory if you didn’t hold on hard enough.
Turning your head slowly, you pressed your ear against Thomas’s chest. You just needed to hear it. Just one strong heartbeat.
It was there, loud and racing just like yours, and a mournful quiver escaped your throat before you could stop it. Your breath shifted brokenly inside your lungs, thin and reedy and not enough. The part of you that was logical, that worked on stratagems and common sense, snapped from somewhere deep inside your head.
Look at him, for god’s sake, you’re not some infant. It was just another dream. Who the hell can’t tell the difference?
But your body disagreed. Your limbs remained locked where they’d fallen. You were afraid of moving, as if the moment you did so, Thomas’s existence would be a toss of the coin and not a certainty. With your nose planted against his sternum, there was still someone to hold onto.
Slowly, strong hands slipped down just below your elbows. Fingers gently circled your upper arms, tugging you upwards. Your body followed rigidly and Tom tucked you up against him before you could protest. His arms wound around your back, his hands rubbing circles in the taut muscles around your spine, and his chin came to rest against your left shoulder.
"I'm right here, Carter."
A hand wandered into your hair and Tom's fingers dragged slowly through the few curls you’d kept. You focused on the touch, on the soft sheets under your knees, and Tom's breathing, steady and even. Slowly, as visions of the tunnel and the bloodied, still figures of your friends faded, your own heartbeat matched its pace.
"Why didn't you tell me you had nightmares?"
You swallowed, shame mixing thickly in the pit of your stomach. You'd kept that bit of information to yourself on purpose, determined to keep quiet when you knew Thomas had endured just as much and more than you.
"You should have told me."
There was frustration in his voice and sympathy just below that, both feelings you were unsure how to face. Somewhere along the way, Tom had become the one person you wanted to impress. Somewhere along the way, you'd wanted him to think you were infallible. Admitting that you dreamed of your time in the tunnels, of moments you'd faced and moments you could have faced, hardly looked like strength to you. Admitting you still heard the picks and shovels of the Germans inching closer and that you fidgeted in cramped spaces hardly seemed like bravery.
But Tom deserved an explanation, now that it was out in the open.
“I'm supposed to be stronger than this. I said I could handle being a soldier. They send me home and I can't even handle the echoes?”
There was a huff of air at your neck and Thomas pulled back sharply. His movement was so sudden you missed him, your body suddenly cold at his sudden withdrawal. Something flickered in his eyes as you studied his face, closer to fury than you could remember from the man. It felt for a moment like a dismissal and as grief and shame stirred angrily through your belly, you forced yourself off the bed and onto your feet.
But Thomas’s fingers caught around your wrist, a silent command to stay put. You froze in place, your eyes darting back towards the man. Satisfied, Thomas sighed. He considered you for several seconds, then he reached down to pull his shirt over his head.
It wasn’t what you expected, but Tom’s plans rarely were and there was a look in your friend’s eyes that demanded you wait and listen. Tom dealt in timing like you dealt in numbers.
So instead, your eyes traveled down his body in earnest, mapping out the myriad of scars painted and scratched and stamped into his skin. Some you remembered, could divulge the story yourself; others were newer, fresh splits of skin and bone that didn’t match what you knew of Thomas Shelby’s timeline.
“Bullet from the Somme.” Tom tapped his left side where your eyes had come to rest and at first, the information seemed like a surprisingly open confession from Thomas. But without pausing for your answer, Thomas continued, walking his fingers down each scar.
“Barbed wire in Amiens. Blast in the trenches- you pulled me out, remember?” You did, but his fingers moved again before you could reply.
He walked you down each limb, detailing a scar now and then, avoiding others that you still wished to rub out with your own hands. The scars were Thomas’s story, told in violent brands and permanent tears on his skin because words were never enough to describe battle. It was a strange, devoted kind of exposure, one you could appreciate fully coming from Tom. But it was unlike your friend to offer up information without asking something in return.
The cost presented itself quickly enough.
“So.”
Thomas lifted his head from the last scar on his thigh and nodded towards you.
“Show me yours.”
The request was a fair one and you imagined there was a point to it that Tom was aiming for, but your body went cold nonetheless.
You showed very few people what sat beneath your clothes. It was hardly different from what they'd seen before, just a set of ribs and a set of breasts and a torso of scars stitching them together, but it had never felt like the truth, showing them skin that hardly felt like yours, bearing your body to them when it hardly felt like your own.
You hesitated, feeling compelled to explain, desperate for someone to listen, even more desperate for Tom to understand. The words came out slow and thick as molasses, your voice quiet, and you looked down at yourself, picking at your nightshirt.
"What people see and who I am don't always match, Tom."
Even without looking at him, you knew he was thinking. There was the softest exhale and a purposeful silence, then the rustling of sheets as he shifted slightly closer to you.
With an unexpected burst of courage, you dragged your eyes up again and sure enough, he was waiting, studying you with a softer expression than before. He pressed his tongue to the top of his mouth for a moment, carefully piecing his words together before exposing them to the air.
"Whether I see Marie or Carter doesn't matter, love. I don't need a name or a body to tell me who you are."
The room tilted for just a moment, as if knocked off kilter by his words. Tears rushed to your eyes unbidden and you pressed your hands fast against them, unprepared for the onslaught.
It wasn't something you'd heard before, the quiet acceptance that whether you were a man or a woman in the day, the hour, the moment, your decision was valid and wouldn't require the consequences of judgment.
For all of Danny's kindness, he still looked at you differently now as Marie than he ever had when you were Carter. He still walked as if on eggshells when you were around, and had adopted a kind of rapport around you like you were his little sister, not his comrade in arms.
You'd seen Freddie Thorne once, on your way out of Tommy's that first time, and he'd regarded you like a math problem, all furrowed brows and frustration. He'd plucked the cigarette from his mouth and circled you like a great cat. In the end, he seemed to have settled on the idea that you weren't a threat, waved you off with a half-friendly, "Enjoy Birmingham."
But he looked at you not as someone he'd trudged through hell with, who he'd ribbed on occasional moments in camp, but as a stranger prone to lies and deception, as if your female identity was an exercise in smoke and mirrors.
Additionally, your family had hitched their wagon to the opinion that you were confused, that the moments you took joy in manners and family you were a different person from the person interested in gadgets and physical labor. They'd come to believe your insistence that you could be both was an affront to how they'd raised you, as if it was your self-control that prevented you from being a proper lady.
And when they'd gotten tired of waiting for you to become what you were expected to be, realized you wouldn't act out the part that the world demanded of you, you'd simply become too much to keep around.
Thomas alone had seen the individual parts of you and believed them to make up a whole. He alone had believed it was more than a formula to a trick or a tantrum.
You swallowed, grateful that Tom had stayed put on the bed and allowed you a moment to work through the meaning of his words. There was a sort of unspent energy to him as he watched you, a tamed impatience as he leaned back and waited.
You took a slow breath, then with shaking hands, undid each button on your shirt. After pausing one last time, your eyes met Tom's expectant ones and you pulled the shirt from your shoulders.
You didn't have as many scars as him. Not even the same type- your binder had worn deep trenches in your skin where it had hugged your breasts or ribs too tight. There were uneven ripples across your abdomen where bones had broken in protest, whether it be from the cramped position you'd crawled through the tunnels or the sustained pressure trapping your chest cavity. There were small, jagged scars from rogue shrapnel dotting your collarbone, wounds you'd had to stitch up yourself for fear of the medics discovering your secret. A long scratch marred your left side from a scuffle with one of the other soldiers, a lasting reminder that not everyone was interested in playing nice.
"Mostly from the tunnels." You lifted your chin, watching as Tom leaned forward, his eyes wandering along each scar as if he was recording them for later consideration.
"And your head."
“What?”
Thomas tapped the back of his head and your right hand fumbled inside of your hair, brushing the rough patch of skin where they’d sewn twenty stitches years before. The memory flitted back quickly, though it was vague, snatches of haze and mud, shouts for a medic, and Tom’s face above you as you were pulled into open air. You’d have shrugged him off if you could have remembered how to move your limbs, saved yourself another couple of battles before getting sent home.
"From the beam. You still get those headaches?"
It had been just a passing bit of information in one of your letters to him, must have been at least six months ago, and you weren’t sure if you were flattered he remembered or embarrassed you told him in the first place.
“Yeah.”
Thomas nodded and his face smoothed over before you could gather what he meant by asking. Instead, he reached for his lighter on the dresser beside you both. A cigarette practically appeared in his hand and he lowered it to the flame with a kind of purpose you thought inordinate for simply lighting a smoke.
With a hard puff of air, Thomas exhaled and you and he both turned your eyes to the fog rising up towards the ceiling.
“I have ‘em too. The nightmares.”
The words didn’t connect immediately. Fitting Thomas’s name into the same sentence as fear didn’t seem logical. You hardly expected him to live without it, but when a man could motivate an entire crowd of scared men onto a bloody battlefield, it seemed stupid to consider him anything but solid.
“You never said anything.”
“It’s a habit we share, eh?”
There was no room for accusations when you’d been just as at fault. You smiled wryly, slowly lowering yourself back down onto the bed beside Thomas. The man’s hand shrugged towards you with ease and after a moment, you picked the cigarette from between his fingers.
You rarely smoked, could hardly afford it with your lifestyle and didn’t care much for the taste. But you wouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth and it felt enough like camaraderie that you couldn’t help but accept the stick.
As you drew smoke into your lungs and exhaled, a tingle ran up your spine. Your shoulders sagged and you closed your eyes for a moment, imagining the sharp edges of you softening and the claws of your nightmare temporarily withdrawing.
“So if I fought for mine,” Thomas continued unbidden and he bumped his arm gently against yours. “And you fought for yours-” The cigarette disappeared from your hand and reappeared between his teeth.
“I believe soldiers face the consequences together, Carter."
His gaze shifted back to you and you studied his face carefully. You knew what it looked like when someone was lying by now, knew when someone was just trying to soften the blow. Thomas was doing neither.
You leaned back slowly against the headboard of the bed, your thoughts racing too quickly to allow you the prospect of sleep just yet.
Fingers danced carefully across the back of your head, just along the edges of your scar. You turned your head to find Thomas intently watching you, his eyes blazing a colder blue than you remembered.
"Call me next time. Do us both some good."

Can you help me with getting into Celtic polytheism?? I fell easily into Hellenic, just because i was an ancient Greece nerd, but with pronunciation and cluelessness on research, i dont know how to dive into Celtic. - @x-eclecticwitchqueen-x
Sure! First you’ll want to decide what kind of Celtic you want to pursue, there are three major branches, Gaelic, Brythonic, or Gaulish. The Gaelic branch encompasses Ireland, Scotland, and the Isle of Mann and the primary pantheon is the Tuatha de Dannan and related beings, such as the goddesses Brighid and the Morrigan and heroic figures like Fionn mac Cumhaill and Cuchulain. A decent approachable introduction to the lore is a Lady Gregory’s Complete Irish Mythology and the Tain translated by Thomas Kinsella. As for pronunciation, there are all sorts of guides you’ll be able to find, Lora O’Brien has a very good video on her youtube channel about pronouncing common names and terms and then googling any beginner’s Irish pronunciation will be sufficient to start with. Additional resources would include just about anything written by Lora O’Brien and Morgan Daimler, and looking up things on the Mary Jones website is good. Even just, for any of this, doing a wiki dive just to get you some baseline knowledge wouldn’t go amiss.
Outside of the Gaelic branch, I know much less. The Brythonic branch encompasses the Welsh, Cornish, and what can be gleaned about pre-Anglo Saxon Britain. The main corpus of lore are the Mabinogion, which includes gods like Ceridwen, Gwyn ap Nudd, and Blodeuwedd, and the Arthurian legends. The later of which is sorta lore, it reflects older Celtic themes and features figures from Welsh myth, but from what I know Arthur wasn’t a pre-Christian Celtic figure and may or may not be an amalgamation of figures, shaped heavily by Christian centuries that came after.
I’ll be honest, I know extremely little about Gaulish polytheism. Gaul was in what is currently France and they have a god named Belenus, that is the extent of it. There is this website you might find helpful and this book here that I found on a quick search. But I also found things about this by the Galina Krasskova, who I know of from Norse circle. She’s one of these authors to be avoided, so just be wary of that if you look into this branch.
Oh! The CR FAQ was a help to me when I first got into Gaelic polytheism. There’s reading lists on there. Off the top of my head, that’s all I can think of.

Weirdest Crossover Ideas
So, I just wanted to share with all of you the strangest and oddest ideas for fandom crossover I’ve had recently. I probably won’t be doing any of these, so anyone who wants to can feel free to use them as a starting point ;D
But just out of curiosity, which one seems the most interesting?
Jim Gordon’s sister and her husband visit Gotham after a plane crash devastates their town of Grandview. Her name? Melinda Gordon. And what earthbound spirits does this Ghost Whisperer encounter first but those of Thomas and Martha Wayne? - Ghost Whisperer x Batman (Possible Title: Same As It Never Was)
After breaking free of Hydra control, the Winter Soldier follows rumors of a witch said to have the power over memories. With the help of a strange girl named Naminé and the opposition of mysterious cloaked assailants, Bucky navigates through his memories of Hydra and works to overcome them, bringing Bucky back to the surface - Captain America: The Winter Soldier x Kingdom Hearts (Possible Title: Freight Car, XiII, Oblivion)
Percy Jackson is contacted about a coup occurring in his godly half-brother’s kingdom by Poseidon at the same time Arthur Curry is informed of King Triton’s daughter having gone missing. The two must work together, not only to find Ariel, but to assist her before the mysterious Vanessa ruins all chance of peace undersea. - Aquaman x Percy Jackson and the Olympians x The Little Mermaid (Possible Title: Ocean, Sea, and Shore OR That’s Not How You Use a Ship)
The ancient elvhen rebel Fen’harel is pursued by Morrigan and her strange son. Chasing him through the eluvians, Morrigan lands in the Sanctum of one who calls himself the Sorcerer Supreme and a man who claims godhood as the Lord of Thunder. With the grudging help of Dr. Strange and Thor Odinson, can Morrigan and her son survive this strange new world long enough to find what Fen’harel wants and stop him? Dragon Age x Doctor Strange x Thor (Suggested Title: ‘Tis Most Unexpected)

Soon after his marriage, Sean Cassidy, an Interpol agent, was sent on an undercover anti-terrorist mission for many months, not knowing when he left that Maeve was pregnant. Shortly after Theresa's birth, Maeve took the infant Theresa with her on a visit to her relatives in Armagh in Northern Ireland. While she was there, Maeve, an innocent bystander, was killed in an IRA (Irish Republican Army) bombing along with a number of other people. No trace of Maeve was found by the authorities and they, and Maeve's relatives who knew of Theresa's existence, assumed that Theresa had also been killed in the explosion and never told Sean that Maeve had had a daughter.
In fact, however, Black Tom Cassidy, her father's cousin and a rival for the love of her mother, had been present at the scene of the explosion and had secretly carried Theresa off with him. Black Tom suspected that Theresa might develop superhuman mutant powers as she grew older, and therefore he intended to raise her secretly so that he might exploit her powers himself. Sean was so filled with anguish when he returned and learned of Maeve's death that he left his ancestral home of Cassidy Keep and threw himself into a series of highly dangerous missions, eventually leading to his resignation from Interpol and his later involvement with the mutant villain team Factor Three.
Siryn
Theresa's sonic powers emerged at puberty and, a few years later, Black Tom began coercing her aid in committing crimes, whom she called "uncle" out of respect. At one point during high school, Theresa developed a drinking problem. However, Theresa's heart was never in a life of crime and she pursued it because the man who raised her, Black Tom, ordered her to do so. Eventually, Theresa accompanied Black Tom and his partner the Juggernaut to San Francisco.
There, employing the name Siryn, Theresa battled the original Spider-Woman and several of the X-Men. This conflict ended in Black Tom's temporary capture. While in custody, Black Tom gentlemanly exonerated Theresa of responsibility for his crimes and wrote to Sean explaining who she was. Theresa and Sean were joyfully united at Professor Charles Xavier's mansion. Theresa went to live with her father, who had since retired back at Cassidy Keep and, due to his new girlfriend Dr. Moira MacTaggart, divided their time between Cassidy Keep and Muir Island.
Fallen Angels
Sometime afterward, Theresa lived for a while at the Muir Island Mutant Research Center, owned by Dr. MacTaggert. There Theresa met, and developed a romantic relationship with Jamie Madrox, the Multiple Man. After being informed that the New Mutant Sunspot had run away, Theresa and Madrox helped to track down the young mutant.
Traveling to New York, Theresa and Jamie found Sunspot and Warlock, attempting to rob a church for food, and Gomi, propositioned Bobby da Costa to join the Fallen Angels. Vanisher appeared to further persuade the children and, while still considering, Chance and Ariel appeared and challenged Sunspot to take a chance. Then Bobby, Warlock, and the duplicate Madroxes left with the group.
After tracking the youths, Theresa and the original Madrox, met Boom-Boom and were teleported to the Valley of the Flame, on Dinosaur World, where they were joined by Moon Boy and Devil Dinosaur. After Devil Dinosaur, accidentally, crushed Don the lobster, Gomi's words of not leaving friends after an accident or tragedy struck a cord and Bobby began to second-guess his decision. After all of the mutant's powers, temporarily, went out-of-whack, due to Chance, Ariel suggested that they all leave and teleported them to the Coconut Grove, her home planet. The inhabitants of the Coconut Grove and the leader, Unipar captured the Fallen Angels, intending to use them as experiments to continue their evolution, but the Angels worked together to defeat them and return home. Sunspot and Warlock decided to return to the New Mutants, but Siryn and Madrox chose to remain with the Angels instead of going home to Muir Island.
Muir Island
Siryn eventually returned to Muir Island, only to get caught up in the Shadow King's telepathic influence. When the X-Men came to Muir to investigate, Siryn ended up fighting her own father Banshee, and took advantage of his feelings to beat him for the Shadow King. She was freed from Farouk's influence with the other residents after the Shadow King was defeated on the physical and astral planes.
X-Force
Later, Theresa learned of an attempt by Black Tom and the Juggernaut to bomb the World Trade Center in New York, and she joined the formative group of mutants known as X-Force in defeating them. She remained alongside the team for a long tenure, and eventually grew to become Field Leader during the absence of their former leader, Cable. On a solo adventure, Theresa encountered the mercenary Deadpool when both were tracking down activities of Black Tom. The two developed romantic feelings toward one another, but parted company.
During her time with X-Force, Theresa's teammate Warpath developed a crush on her, and later he helped Theresa recover from a relapse into alcoholism During a clash between X-Force and the villainous New Hellions, Theresa's vocal cords were severely damaged, causing her to lose her voice as well as her powers. Taking a leave of absence from the team, Theresa adjusted slowly to life without her powers, visiting with an aunt.
Soon, however, Theresa walked into an antique store where the owner put a necklace on her. Theresa immediately began to talk again and flew off, the obvious victim of a possession, similar to the type performed by the deceased villain Malice.
Later, Theresa encountered Deadpool who managed to get her to an organization that was able to heal her using the mutant healing power of their captive, the X-Men's Wolverine. Wolverine was upset at Deadpool, even after Theresa broke out of her healing tank, but Terry stood by Wade and flew off with him. What became of her possessor is unknown.
X-Corps & X-Corporation
Banshee founded a mutant team, the X-Corps, as a paramilitary force that could police the mutant community. The team recruited several known villains and soon they embarked on a rampage through Paris until the X-Men were able to defeat them. Even so, Banshee was left wounded and the X-Corps was disbanded. Feeling the need to help atone for her father's debacle, Theresa offered her services to the X-Corporation, a clandestine extension of the X-Men operating as mutant champions on a worldwide scale.
X-Factor Investigations
Siryn became a member of X-Factor Investigations. She was in a state of denial regarding her father's recent demise, correctly noting that many X-Men had been believed dead only to later return alive. Due to these recent traumas, Siryn was under considerable emotional strain. She was beaten by Damian Tryp, Jr. and captured by Doctor Leery. Rictor rescued her, killing Leery in the process. During the Superhuman Civil War, Theresa opposed the Registration Act and was tasked with contacting more high-profile superheroes about the Decimation. After speaking with Spider-Man, X-Factor got into contact with Quicksilver and Cyclops’ team of X-Men demanding they answer why the reason behind the Decimation was kept secret and defy the Registration Act.
One night, Madrox got drunk; Jamie Prime and a dupe he described as his libido incarnate slept with Siryn and Monet. Jamie was not sure which of them slept with the dupe. Regardless, Jamie kept it going with the both of them, afraid of revealing that he was double-timing them. After a confrontation with Singularity Investigations the members of X-Factor met with Doc Samson, who encouraged Jamie to confess the truth to Monet and Siryn. They did not take it well.
Baby Sean
Theresa discovered that she was pregnant with Madrox's child. After Mutant Town was destroyed by Arcade, X-Factor moved to Detroit. As Theresa went into labor, she proposed to Jamie who accepted. Eventually, she gave birth to a baby boy that she named Sean. Upon picking up Sean, Madrox absorbed him: he had been a dupe all along. Filled only with rage, Theresa declared after breaking Jamie's fingers that she would break his neck next time she saw him.
Banshee After disbanding the Detroit branch of X-Factor Theresa went back to Ireland where she ran into Reverend John Maddox, one of Jamie's dupes. Reverend Maddox helped Theresa cope with depression and she had a one-night stand with Deadpool. After finally coming to terms with Banshee's death and reconciling her grief, Theresa retired the codename Siryn and took her deceased father's codename as her own and began calling herself Banshee in honor of his memory.
The Morrigan As Polaris continued to mentally deteriorate, Terry asked Layle Miller to help her contact the Morrigan in an attempt to save Lorna's sanity. The Morrigan revealed that her name was actually a title that was passed down from one woman to another and that she was tired of being the Morrigan. She would help Terry by giving her the power that was needed to heal Lorna's mind. To do this, Terry had to kill the Morrigan and become the new Morrigan. Theresa accepted and killed the Morrigan using a "Banshee's scream" in the form of a sonic lance, by the Morrigan's request. With her new godly powers, Terry easily saved Lorna.
After Terry donned the title, she immediately left the team, only reappearing when Jamie Madrox prayed to her while he was stuck in his demonic form because of Mephisto and the events of the contest to kill Tier Sinclair. She was initially surprised at the context of her summoning because she didn't expect this to be when Jamie summons her. She then healed Jamie and defeated the policemen that we attempting to arrest Layla. She filled Layla and Jamie in on their friends' lives, and later offered to rally the team herself but didn't because she learned that Layla and Jamie just wanted to raise their child in peace

【 Abilities 】
Banshee is a second generation mutant and possesses sonic acoustic powers similar to those of her father:
Acoustikinesis: The ability to create various sonic effects through the combined action of her vocal cords and limited psionic powers which can only be used in conjunction with the sounds she produces.
• Sonic Scream: Siryn can cause her vocal cords to vibrate over a wide range of sonic frequencies and produce a volume of sound ranging up to at least 140 decibels. Siryn has thus the ability to shatter solid objects with a sonic scream. This ability is most likely augmented with her ability to weild mythological Banshee cries which were demonstrated as being louder than her own sonic scream.
• Flight: Siryn can use the sonic vibrations of her scream as a carrier wave.
• Sonic Lance: By focusing her sonic vibrations while screaming into an intense beam. This is used as a sort of "battering ram" that can stun or even destroy most solid objects.
• Sonar: She can use her sonic powers as a form of sonar. By sending out a precise, pure note and listening to the returning, altered wavefront of the note, she can evaluate her surroundings in total darkness with varying degrees of resolution.
• Sonic Null Field: She can project a field of silence in a area making no sound reach outside the area or no sound outside the area in.
• Sonic Amplification: She can amplify sound carrier waves allowing her to hear conversations or noises from far off.
• Sonic Shield: She can tighten sound waves around herself or others near her, making a barrier against outside attack.
• Vocal Disorientation: The ability to change someone’s balance, by affecting their equilibrium using her sonic scream.
• Vocal Trance: The ability to subtly influence peoples subconscious mind by changing the tones and vibrations of her voice using sonics, the effects tend towards blatant hypnosis. At times she's been even capable of calming down an enraged Hulk (when his rage is not so intense).
• Vocal Unconsciousness: The ability to affect the fluid in someone’s ear causing the person to go unconscious.
• Siren's Song: The ability to influence human beings with a certain pitch of her voice, causing them to fall in love with her without regard to gender or sexual orientation.
• Sound Immunity: Siryn's hearing and equilibrium are unaffected by the effects of her scream and similar abilities.
• Superhuman Vocal Stamina: Her vocal cords are tremendously strong, so that she can produce sonic effects through screaming constantly for hours at a time without noticeably tiring or injuring her vocal apparatus. Siryn's vocal cords and the interiors of her throat and mouth are also superhumanly tough, so that the intense pressures and constrictions that she produces do not cause her any injury.
• Unarmed Combat: She is well-versed in the form of unarmed combat (trained as X-Force member in Martial Arts)
Godly Physiology: After she killed the Morrigan , it is assumed that she gained all of her powers • With the power of the Morrigan, transforming her into a Celtic goddess with superhuman strength, a mystically enhanced sonic scream, powers of healing, clairvoyance, teleportation, and attuned to the needs and summons of her supplicants and worshippers • Superhuman Durability: She was able to take a direct hit from a gun that was able to destroy Layla Miller’s shield and didn't even feel discomfort.
