If Ghosts had a more mature rating and was able to do more creepy ghost powers/death side effects:
Pat, Humphrey, and Thomas are eternally bleeding. Their clothes are wet, their hand gets wet from touching it, they'll leave trails of blood down the hall, etc. The blood on their hand or the floor disappears pretty quickly as their ghost powers make them reset but their clothes are always soaked
Thomas's whole stomach and the top of his pants are bloodstained. Pat's is all located on his shoulders/necktie and has the most obvious stains due to the color difference of his clothes. There are a few drops here and there down his sleeves and chest. It's pretty heavy because of the major arteries the neck that would've been punctured. Humphrey's is by fair the heaviest and is all over the front of his torso. Like the whole thing. When he died he fell face down into the growing puddle of blood that would've been pooling from his stump
Fanny can turn her head frighteningly far. There's a sick crunching sound that happens when she does this and it always sends shivers down Alison's spine even after years of hearing it. The other ghosts have joked and compared Fanny to an owl because of this and she chews them out every time
Pat coughs a lot because he's got blood stuck in his throat. He'll randomly have a huge coughing fit, cough a bunch of blood into his hand and then go "Oh no. Anyways..." He also has trouble breathing and has to take breaks to sit down during physical activities like dancing or running. It annoying but not too much of a hindrance to his daily life; it's like having asthma or allergies. The blood can make his voice sound a little weird sometimes too, like he's gurgling smth while he talks. He just clears his throat and keeps going
The plague ghosts vomit up bile every once in a while. It's black, steaming, and putrid but disappears almost instantly
Kitty also throws up when she's excited... which is a lot. She also gets chills, lightheadedness, fevers, and uncontrollable shaking. There's not much the other ghosts or Alison can do to help her besides sitting with her/trying to distract her. She'll lay down and try to breathe through it while Alison reads her a story or the Captain infodumps abt smth or Robin holds her hand. Sometimes she falls asleep, sometimes she doesn't. She's always better after a few hours tho
Fanny gets really bad migraines. Alison's theory is that they're caused by her broken vertebra. Fanny doesn't particularly care why they happen. When they happen, she's in an even worse mood than usual so it's best to steer clear of her. She doesn't have the energy to yell at ppl but will remember the slightest fault and wait until she's better to go on a lecture. Again, there's not much Alison or the other ghosts can do to help besides let her lay down and try to be quiet
Mary and Robin's skin peels off. It's white and flaky and leaves raw red spots underneath. The dead skin disappears once it leaves them but the skin underneath is never healthy and flakes off too
Both Robin and Mary smell like burning flesh but only Mary is detectable by living people. Robin only smells when he uses his powers. It really puts a lot of the ghosts off, especially newer ones
Robin's body also gets affected by his powers in other ways. If it's something small like flickering a light, his hair will stand on end. Something bigger like turning a light on/off or flickering a more powerful light will cause him to spasm. It's usually just his arms and wears off after a minute. Smth really big like redirecting that lightning bolt for Mike will be the equivalent of him actually getting hit w the lightning. His body seizes up, falls over unresponsive and twitching for several minutes, but he's always ok in the end. Alison and the other ghosts get very worried but he walks it off
Julian and the Captain both feel remnants of their heart attacks. Shortness of breath, tingling/numbness in the arms, dizziness, heart palpitations, etc. They both choose to keep it a secret from the others and cover it up but if they're particularly stressed abt smth, they'll start getting chest pains which is harder to cover up. The Captain has excused himself from many social situations to go sit on the floor and try to breathe through the pain and calm his heart. Robin's the only one who knows about Julian's because it happened once while they were hanging out. Logically, they both know they can't die again but it's still scary
Mary likes to sit in the lake because even tho she can't feel it like she would if she was alive, the cold water is soothing on her burns
All the ghosts have days where they just lay abt bc the pain is too much to move. From who does it the most to who does it the least it goes Mary, Humphrey, Pat, Fanny, Thomas, Kitty, Robin, the Captain, Julian

Finding Delilah (Part 5)
Tumblr media
<Part 4
Summary: Comfort, memories, and choices collide.
A/n: A lot of things happen in this chapter, so I hope it doesn’t seem too messy…
Word count: 3.3k
Content includes: Abuse, Casual anti-romani racism, mentions of death and murder
1917
“How many times did I say not to talk with those dirty gypsies!” Malcolm’s father roared as he whipped the boy with his leather belt, hitting against the tough skin of his freckled back. Malcolm looked behind at his father and said behind gritted teeth and a clenched jaw.
“She’s not dirty, Papa! She’s a good girl…She don’t mean any harm!”.
His father lowered his belt and took one good look at the angry red welt on Malcolm’s back. “Sit down boy,” he instructed. His father placed a hand on Malcolm’s back making him hiss at the painful sting. Maybe it was guilt that crept across the old man’s face—or something like it. He couldn’t seem to meet his son’s gaze. Malcolm relented and sat stiffly next to his father as he was told, looking down at the floor, fiddling with the seam of his trousers waiting for what his father would say next.
“Now, you know why Papa gets really angry when you talk and play with people you don’t know….” His father’s voice faltered, trailing into the thick, suffocating air.
Malcolm bit down on the inside of his cheek, “But Papa…she’s not people…I know her”
Delilah wasn’t just anyone. She was his light. His sanctuary. The only soul whose laughter stitched something broken inside him back together. Malcolm would never allow anyone to speak ill about Delilah. She was his escape. And the only girl who’s energy made him smile. Her happiness made him happy. And that was all he needed.
“Her family are a bunch of gypsies for goodness sakes boy!” He bellowed, his face grimacing, causing the wrinkles on his forehead to deepen.
The insult hit harder than any belt. Malcolm shot to his feet, fists clenched at his sides.
“Why does that matter Papa? You go to the same church as her Aunt and help those same gypsies that you spit on! Mama was a gypsy, so what do you have to say about that?!”
“Well look where that fuckin got her!”
Malcolm stared in disbelief at his father’s words, at his audacity. His mama had passed away from a sickness two years ago. He hadn’t known exactly what sickness had hollowed her out, but he remembered her pale skin, the blue veins mapping across it like rivers, the way Nolan had sat by her bedside everyday—changing her dressings, feeding her broth—while their father disappeared to do God knows what.
His mother had the palest skin like snow. Eyes sunken like a beautiful worn sculpture.
“What does that mean?” Malcolm choked out.
“Your mom was cursed, boy. Magic. Cursed by her own fucking community”
“How do you know Papa? Why would they curse her?” he demanded to know.
“Some of them heard about what I did, and I guess they didn’t like that” His father shrugged nonchalantly, as if he wasn’t the cause of the problem. The whole situation that caused them to move to Small Heath in the very first place.
Malcolm sat back down and raked his fingers through his hair. His mother was a whore, Nolan was a known thief. Malcolm always knew that his family wasn’t really favoured by others back in his hometown. Never knew that the hate was so strong enough to kill someone.
His father was a criminal, constantly on the run from the law. Not sure what crime it was that led to his father threatening everyone in the village that he would kill them if they opened their mouths. But all Malcolm knew that it must’ve been horrible. The only people in the family who seemed to know about his father’s crime were his mother, Mary, and Nolan. And Nolan…he always looked like he'd seen it all.
“What did you do Papa…what did you do that made them so mad? Why’d they take it out on Mama?” Malcolm questioned with his head in his hands, fingers pressing deeply into his temples. Whatever the answer was, Malcolm knew he would still keep his mouth shut, and go on with whatever his father told him to do. He was always a Papa’s boy. He was always praised for it.
“What I did is none of your business. We came all the way here to make a name for ourselves. In here, we are no longer criminals”
Malcolm figured it was useless to try and ask and pry any further. It was clear that his father was never going to tell him and that he was probably going to die never knowing. He was just confused and wondered why it was his mother that was dragged into all this. Why his mother got the other end of the stick. Nolan once told him before he went to fight in France, “You can always reject your father, but you’ll always have your mother’s blood”. Malcolm never understood what that meant. Even now after Nolan had passed. People are always quick to blame your mother for how you turned out. So maybe whatever his father did, the village couldn’t take out their anger at him, out of fear of what he would or could do, then his mother would be the next choice.
“One more question Papa…”
“What now?”
“How long do I have to keep calling myself Malcolm?”

Delilah’s home, 1934
Tumblr media
The lights were dim and the air was quiet back at Delilah’s humble abode. She lived in a small two story terrace building on the edge of Small Heath. It was much quieter here, slightly fewer gangs walking around, but still a walking distance from Saint Judes Church and Watery Lane. Her family had strongly advised her to move away from Small Heath when she mentioned that she wanted to continue living there. Everything happened there. Her whole life began there. It felt like she was letting go of everything she ever held on if she moved elsewhere. And Delilah didn’t like to let things go.
“You can’t stay here Dilly,” Polly urged.
“But Polly…I can’t seem to let go of Small Heath”, Delilah whispered.
“You need to move somewhere better, my love, your heart needs peace and Small Heath gonna give you that”
She knew that Polly meant well and was trying to help with her anxiety. Delilah was always weary and paranoid of something happening to her or anyone else in her family. It got to the point where her paranoia had caused her to be awake at the latest hour of the night, walking slowly to her siblings room, opening their doors hauntingly slowly, worrying that something might happen to them.
Ada would lift her blanket and invite her in and hold her tight, letting her know that she’s okay. “Come here Dilly, lay with me, see I’m right here…I’m okay”.
It always scared Arthur the most when she would peek at his door, but he always reassured her as well. “Bloody hell Delilah…You scared me. I’m alright, love”.
John never questioned it and would sit outside on the dining table, distracting her with meaningless conversations.
Oddly enough, Thomas never flinched. Maybe it was because he never slept and was just as paranoid as her. He shared the same fear, always hearing the sound of a pickaxe picking on the back of his wall. Delilah would always invite herself onto his bed, hugging him tightly and he would do the same. He had quickly learned that squeezing her tightly was effective in making her racing heart beat at a gentle pace.
Her home was warm. Not much furniture that filled the space. She liked it that way, not much clutter, especially since her mind was already very much cluttered with thoughts all over the place. Her bed was placed perfectly where the sun would shine through the window but wouldn’t glare directly into her eyes, but instead, bath her in its golden rays. Delilah didn’t do much at home. Her routine consisted of waking up, sometimes she would have breakfast, call Ada and Tommy, and sit on her couch until she would get tired and fall asleep.
She lived alone and didn’t, if not, never had anyone over at her home. But this was going to change because Ada had called a day ago while Delilah was preparing to go to sleep.
“Evening Dilly, are you free tomorrow?—of course you are, you’ve got nothing to do anyway”
Delilah scoffed at her sister’s snarky comment, “Well if taking care of Izzy counts then yes, I am very busy”.
“No, feeding and sleeping with that ginger cat of yours does not count”
Delilah laughed, her siblings never did like her ginger cat, Izzy. Arthur called it a dangerous thing because she bit him once and he now has a grudge. When John was still alive he would call her lazy girl, which wasn’t necessarily wrong. Tommy didn’t even want to be near it.
“If that’s the the case the no, I am not busy tomorrow”
“Good, I’ll be coming over tomorrow. No reason, just figured I wanted to see my cute little sister, mourn, and drink wine while we talk about our wonderful family”
Tumblr media
Ada strutted through the busy streets with her large fur coat. Her makeup was elegantly done as always, red rogue perfectly making her lips stand out. She clutched her handbag and walked past the crowd. Ada had an aura and energy around her that made others turn their heads at her when she walked by.
Knock knock knock. She waited patiently for her little sister’s arrival. Soon later, Delilah slowly opened the door and immediately brought a smile to Ada’s face.
“Ada!” Delilah squealed as she yanked her sister inside by her arm.
Ada gasped but quickly balanced herself back on her feet and crossed her arms around her chest, looking at Delilah with that same look she always had. That “I missed you like crazy” look.
“Morning Delilah, I’ve missed my little sister,” Ada said with a playful raised brow as she wrapped her arms around Delilah’s frame.
Delilah assisted Ada to sit on the armchair and went to the kitchen. Ada removed her fur coat placing it on the coat rack, before sitting down comfortably.
“Wine or Whiskey?”
Ada scoffed at the question.
“Whiskey is for heartbreak. Wine, now that’s for grief”
Delilah was amused by that statement. It reminded her of a time where one of Tommy’s friends, or something like that, told her that Gin was for the melancholy and Rum was for violence. But she didn’t have any of those, so it was either Wine or Whiskey. Though wine was usually used for toast and celebrations while whiskey was more for numbing the pain, there was no use in numbing a pain that would never go away. So instead we commemorate it. And Polly was a person to celebrate.
Delilah poured the drink into their cups and they both raised a toast, “To Polly, one hell of a woman she was” said Ada. Delilah nodded and took a sip of her wine.
“That she was”
As they drank, Ada wrapped an arm around Delilah’s shoulder and layed on it. Ada took a deep breath and released a deep sigh. One that dissolved all the weight in her chest. Delilah let her eyes close shut gently. Just having Ada—her only sister, here with her was enough to anchor her back to the ground beneath her very feet. Delilah didn’t know that all she needed to remind her that she’s still real was for another human being to hold her hand and say, “I see you”.
“You know I’ll always be here with you right Delilah?” Ada blurted, her fingers lovingly brushing down Delilah’s brown curls.
Delilah melted into her sister's arms and grunted.
“I’ll remind you that you’re my little sister, and a very special woman in my life, if you go missing, be it physically or spiritually, I’ll never stop finding you”
Silent tears fell from Delilah’s eyes, Ada’s warm hands brushing circles on the small of her back. Ada's eyes flickered upward to the photo of Polly and John in his uniform framed very nicely near the fireplace. Delilah took the pictures from their rooms after they passed away.
“That's a nice picture of them you have there”
Delilah wiped her hot tears away, “Mhm…I don’t want to forget what they look like. I’ve already forgotten what Mom and Dad look like. And Malcolm…”
The mention of Malcolm’s name made Ada sit up straight. “Malcolm? wasn’t that your boyfriend as a kid?”. Delilah swatted Ada’s arm and Ada giggled playfully.
“No he wasn’t my boyfriend. He was just a really good friend of mine back when I was 9. I don't know why, but I have really bad memory. I seem to have forgotten what he looks like already…”
Ada shrugged, “Well it was 17 years ago, that is a long time, Dily”.
Delilah nodded and sighed. She realised that she was starting to forget faces when she couldn’t even get an image of her mother in her head when asked what she looked like. All she could remember was that she had beautiful blue eyes and a voice soft like a feather. And John, she almost forgot if he had brown or blond hair, or if he had freckles on his skin.
So for Polly, she promised she would never forget what she looks like. Polly had beautiful brown curls that she never failed to style so beautifully, every tie and every hairpin fit so perfectly. She had eyes that commanded and hands that could make a man crumble. Those same hands that soothed all her siblings to sleep
“I miss Pol, Ada”
“I miss her too love, let’s just sit here together and talk about her okay? I have all day”
Tumblr media
Lucas Woods was wandering around Saint Jude’s Church. Everyone in Small Heath always joked about how Father Woods never leaves the Church. How his soul is stuck there. If you needed someone, you could bet your last penny that Lucas Woods would be there, sitting gracefully on a pew, staring off into the distance.
When the Church was empty—which was always the case, he walked out and found himself at the back of the Church. An overgrown grass patch with wildflowers, and an oak tree in front of him. The oak tree was calling for him to lay underneath it. For once, he felt his chest tightening and his heart telling him to just lay down and let the grass settle on him. Lucas made his way to the tree and hesitantly lowered his body down onto the grass. The tree leaves and long branches sheltering him from the blazing sun. He felt the tight strings stitched into his heart loosening slightly as he rested.
He must’ve fallen deeply asleep because he didn’t realise that there was another person who had been watching him as he rested.
“Delilah?”
Delilah’s eyes widened and she shook her head, “Oh, Oh! Lucas I’m so sorry! I was just walking around here and saw you laying down and thought something had happened to you…” she sputtered.
Her genuine concern was something that Lucas loved about that girl. He could not help but smile at her trying to explain herself. He blinked awake, sunlight shining in his eyes.
“That’s alright Delilah, I was just sleeping. Sorry to worry you my dear”
Delilah’s cheeks flushed a light shade of red. Lucas scooted a little to the side and patted on the empty space next to him. As soon as she sat next to Lucas she could feel the tension in her shoulders relax. Lucas was looking off into the distance as he always did and Delilah was staring at him once again. He just looked so unexplainably at peace but so tired at the same time. The way his eyes had heavy bags but the way his skin was reflecting off the sun so breathtakingly. She always thought everyone she saw was beautiful. And Lucas was beautiful. So painfully beautiful.
Lucas turned to face Delilah and gave her a warm smile, catching her off guard. “Is there something on my face?” he teased. Delilah laughed, “No Lucas, it’s just that…” she reached her hands out as she spoke, and her fingers rested ever so lightly on his textured skin. Lucas watched—feeling his heartbeat quicken and his face warming up slowly but he found himself never wanting her hands to leave.
“Just what, Delilah?”
“Just that you look so beautiful”
His eyes locked onto hers, a mix of surprise and vulnerability reflected in his gaze. As she touched his face, a gentle warmth spread through his body. He remained silent, unsure how to respond to the sincerity in her voice. The word "beautiful" hung in the air, unfamiliar yet deeply touching. For a moment, time seemed to pause, with only the sound of their quiet breathing filling the space between them. His silence wasn't indifference; it was the quiet reverence of someone hearing something beautiful for the first time.
“I’ve never heard that one before,” he mused.
Delilah didn’t respond. Instead, she just let her hands rest on his skin. She didn’t need him to believe her words. But she always felt that she needed to let others know just how beautiful they looked. She couldn't help but be captivated by the unique features of everyone she met. Each person's face told a story, and she found herself drawn to the distinct qualities that made them who they were. With an infectious enthusiasm, she'd often blurt out compliments, her words spilling from a genuine place of admiration. "You're so beautiful," she'd say, her eyes sparkling with sincerity. The way someone's smile lit up their entire face, the quirky shape of their eyebrows, or the radiant glow of their skin—each trait was a masterpiece in her eyes.
“You’re beautiful yourself, Delilah”
Delilah smiled sheepishly at his compliment. Hiding her face in her hands. “Goodness… Lucas, I'm so sorry” she chuckled.
“You just look like someone I once knew,” She muttered.
Tumblr media
HMP Birmingham, 1934
The guard didn’t even look him in the eye when he unlocked the cell door.
“You’ve got a visitor,” he muttered.
Michael Shelby stood from the narrow bed, smoothing the wrinkles from his worn shirt. His expression sharpened with suspicion—he wasn’t expecting anyone. Not yet, anyway. His boots scraped against the cold floor as he followed the guard through the dim corridors, passing faces he no longer bothered to remember.
In the visiting room, a single man sat at the far end, hands folded neatly in front of him. He was young, but the way he carried himself made him seem older—like something gnawed away at him from the inside out. His clothes were modest and neat. The kind you wouldn’t glance twice at on the street. Michael slid into the chair opposite him, the wood groaning faintly under his weight. The stranger lifted his head, pale eyes meeting Michael’s without much urgency.
“You’re the visitor?” Michael asked, one brow lifting.
The man simply nodded. No name. No pleasantries.
There was a long pause, just the steady ticking of the clock on the wall. Michael drummed his fingers against the table, impatient. “Well?”
The man spoke, his voice low, almost bored. “Your wife made arrangements. She’s paid well.”
Michael leaned forward slightly. “Arrangements for what?”
“To take care of Thomas Shelby.”
The words hung heavy between them. Michael’s jaw tightened.
“No”
The visitor tilted his head, studying him the way one might study a flickering candle, wondering how long it would last.
Michael’s voice was steady. “I kill Thomas Shelby myself. But Arthur goes first.”
The man said nothing, only tapping a finger lightly against the edge of the table. As if he had heard the same thing a hundred times before. Michael went on, voice hardening, “Arthur’s a rabid dog. If I don’t put him down first, he’ll come straight for me. It has to be him first. Then Tommy.”
At last, the man gave a small nod. “As you wish, Mr Gray” he said easily, like the outcome was none of his concern. He stood, smoothing the front of his coat, preparing to leave. But just before he turned away, he glanced back over his shoulder.
“I hope you don’t regret your choices,” he said softly. Then he was gone, slipping from the room with the same soundless efficiency he had arrived with, leaving Michael sitting alone beneath the flickering overhead light, feeling—for the first time in a long time—very, very cold.

some ghosts headcanons after the hotel/golf course is built:
Cap gets a crush on any vaguely put-together man with a decent golf swing.
Julian likes to make "swinging" jokes that go over the Captain's head.
Robin likes to chase and find stray golf balls that get lost. He and Julian update Alison on the number of golf balls in the lake every time she visits.
Robin also knows all the strategies for golf, having hyperfixated on it since the golfing company started working on the land.
Thomas gave up on paying attention to golf after finding out the aim is to get the least points.
There is a historic tour around the hotel and grounds, which gets a lots of facts slightly wrong. The first few times, the ghosts went on the tour and corrected everything. Since Alison couldn't prove most of their accounts to the tour guides, not much could be changed. The ghosts still insist the tour is bogus.
Fanny and Humphrey's portraits get professionally restored.
The hotel also hosts some art and sports groups. Robin was very excited when they started doing zumba regularly. Pat and the Captain like to watch cricket games in the summer. One time they tried to join in, but stopped as soon as one of them got stepped through.
Thomas and Kitty both like to watch cute couples who stay in the hotel, especially at dinner. One time they both end up watching the same couple for the evening. Thomas tried very hard to stop Kitty following them to their bedroom, but ended up joining her in spying on them. They don't talk about it.
Pat and the Captain go on a "double date" where they follow a pair of golfers on their anniversary. Pat starts by telling the Captain about the tactics being used (club type, angle, etc) but gets outshined by one of the golfers who clearly knows more.

What the Ghosts have been watching on TV
Everyone
Channel 4 Home renovation shows: They're free with ads and there's an infinite amount of them so Alison puts them on for the whole gang when she and Mike have work to do in same way people put on YouTube videos for their dogs. This has backfired slightly as all the ghosts now have very strong and conflicting opinions on how Button House should be renovated.
The Great British Bake-off: A whole family event, they all get very invested. Kitty thinks Alison Hammond is the funniest person in the world. The Captain feels normal about Noel Fielding. As well as a watching it live, I'm sure they've also watched the whole back catalogue together.
Mama Mia: This where the Captain learnt his ABBA songs from. Pat and Julian enjoy the nostalgic music and I think the others are just bewitched by the story and music
Robin
Anything David Attenborough: For obvious reasons. I think he'd get a kick out of trying to do his voice. The others sometimes join in.
Cunk on Earth/ Britain: I think they've got a similar attitude towards history and I think he'd find serious historians trying to answer silly questions incredibly funny
Horrible Histories: He watches this with Kitty, they both find poop jokes funny.
Humphrey
Antiques Roadshow: I'm not sure why. I honestly think he's just glad to watch anything.
Mary
Gardener's World: I think she misses being able to look after plants and I think she'd be endlessly fascinated by how hosepipes work.
Mio Mao: She loves them fucking plasticine cats. She will not stop singing the theme song
Honestly think she'll watch anything with anyone and would get invested, she seems like the ideal person to watch telly with.
Kitty
Ru Paul's Drag Race: I think they all watch this every so often but Kitty is invested. There's bright colours, fun outfits and drama, it's definitely Alison's go to when she needs Kitty distracted.
90s and 2000s romcoms: I believe that every couple of weeks Alison and Kitty have a "girl's night" where they watch all the romcoms that Alison used to watch with her mum, mostly because I love watching romcoms with my mum and Kitty deserves that. Kitty is particularly fond of Twilight.
Thomas:
Any Jane Austen adaptations: He watches them with Fanny as they were both big fans when they were alive (its the only thing they agree on). Kitty also joins sometimes. His favourite is the 1995 Pride and Prejudice tv show.
Fanny:
Grey's Anatomy: I haven't seen it but my mum's a big fan and there's millions of seasons, I think she'd pretend she's not that into it but she definitely is.
Call the Midwife: Same as above.
The Captain:
M*A*S*H: I've seen about half an episode of this but it seems to be about fit young men in a war so it sounds like his thing. Probably Pat's recommendation.
Our Flag Means Death: I think Alison has been trying to sneakily show Cap gay media under the pretence of saying "it's just a fun show about pirates". I think the whole gang watched it together. The Captain definitely didn't cry at the end of season 1 why would think that?
Pat
Taskmaster: I think this is one they all watch together but it's definitely one of Pat's favourites. He probably attempted to set up his own version of the show with the ghost which ended horribly.
Doctor Who: I think he watched the original run when he was alive and was absolutely ecstatic to find out they made more. Julian makes fun of him for it.
Julian
Have I Got News For You: Has been airing since 1990 so he definitely watched it while he was alive. I think he likes to keep up with current politics but not in a very serious way so this is his middle ground.
Succession: I haven't seen this show but it seems to be about horrible men in suits being horrible to each other which seems right up his alley.
The Thick of It: Speaking of horrible men in suits being horrible. I think he watches this with Robin who has absolutely no idea what's going on but just laughs when Julian does and they have the best time. Julian is constantly pausing to add his own anecdotes
What We Do In The Shadows: Alison put this on as a 'let's show the Captain it's ok to be gay' show and the Captain was immediately horrified so Julian adopted it. He identifies with Lazlo.

My Ghosts headcanons
I've had these sitting in a google doc for ages so I might as well hand them over.
I've split them into stuff that 'could take place in canon' and 'modern au' stuff
Robin:
Fluent in multiple languages (kind of canon but whatever)
He has a PhD in astrophysics
Humphrey:
He gets migraines
He’s a teacher (this is quite popular), Headteacher humphrey is cool as well
Failed his driving test 4 times in a row
Coffee gives Humphrey headaches so he drinks more of it.
Mary:
She was a girl guide (me coded) (Credit to @kingofthefrogs swapped au for inspo)
Welsh (me coded)
Dyslexic
Kitty:
Can be heard on a spirit box (Credit to kingofthefrogs)
Likes Call the Midwife.
She is a Nurse or Doctor, possibly a paediatrician. Haven’t seen this done yet but I think it could be fun given her fascination with Maddocks’ injury.
She loves iced coffee.
Thomas:
He is scared of dogs (channeling me right now) Dante is a weird exception to this that Fanny often complains about but secretly is proud of.
He can experience temperature as a ghost. (Credit to Ailendolin) He is susceptible to heat stroke and sometimes gets a cold, especially after going in the lake.
He's left handed
He is dyslexic and/or short sighted. Bonus if he refuses to wear glasses. Double bonus if this gives him constant headaches.
Studied abroad in Holland for 2 years and developed a weed addiction, he moved back to the UK to get over it
Coffee gives Thomas headaches so he doesn’t drink it.
Fanny:
Hypochondriac.
Incredible at Netball (she's such a netball girlie) she plays wing attack or centre
Captain:
He has reading glasses.
Scared of chickens (Alektorophobia) (Inspired by @upsetslingshot on ao3)
Cap was in army cadets (me coded) and loved it.
Pat:
He's claustrophobic, he was in life and the fact that he died while struggling to breathe has worsened that.
He’s basically blind without his glasses. (like Velma type blind)
Road rage.
Julian:
Has hemophobia (fear of blood)
Julian was in army cadets and hated it.
Multi Character (mostly modern au stuff):
Thomas, Fanny, and Mary love watching Downton Abbey. Thomas is a passionate fan of Edith, Mary likes Sybil, and Fanny is a big fan of Violet Crawley (as she should be).
All autistic (Julian and Robin AuDHD).
Cap, Thomas, Mary, and Julian are cat people
Pat, Robin, and Fanny are dog people
Humphrey and Kitty passionately refuse to pick a side.
Thomas, Cap, Pat, Fanny and Julian are tea people.
Humphrey, Kitty, Mary and Robin are coffee people.
Robin and Humphrey as siblings/ twins.
Thomas and Kitty met in school. Thomas was being picked on and Kitty defended him.
Julian and Robin met in Cambridge Uni, Robin was doing an astrophysics PhD, Julian was doing his classmates a masters in politics.
Cap and Fanny play badminton together.
They have a group football team (more on that later)
Mary and Robin hooked up once (I know its canon but I love when it also happens in modern au's)
Hogwarts houses:
Hufflepuff - Humphrey, Pat, Mary
Gryffindor - Robin, Julian
Ravenclaw - Fanny, Thomas, Kitty
Slytherin - Cap
I'm very willing to elaborate and hear other opinions on this.
Mario Kart mains:
Robin - Bowser
Humphrey - Shy Guy
Mary - Yoshi
Kitty - Daisy
Thomas - Peach
Fanny - Toadette
Captain - Luigi
Pat - Koopa Troopa
Julian - Donkey Kong
The football team (my pride and joy):
Robin - goalkeeper, he once scored from a goal kick
Humphrey - defence, very good at headers (lol) but is frequently injured mainly due to being clumsy
Kitty - defence, she gets very invested in the game and will break knees (while apologising)
Cap - defence, it took him a while to pick up the sport but he’s thriving, works very well with Humphrey and Kitty
Thomas - surprisingly good left winger, other teams generally see him (being himself) before the game  and write him off as a weaker player - he loves proving them wrong
Fanny - right wing, her and thomas make a weirdly good duo, she's absolutely incredible at penalties
Pat - central midfielder and the team captain (Cap conceded that maybe Pat was a little bit better than him at football and should take the lead ‘just this once’)
Mary - Striker, really strong with both feet, closes her eyes when she takes a shot but somehow is still usually on target
Julian - Striker, solid player but is frequently sent off for inappropriate celebrations
I had way too much fun re-reading these.
PLEASE USE THEM AND SEND ME THE FICS IM OBSESSED.

Headcanons about how good the ghosts hug and what Ghost!Alison has to look forward to once she joins them.
Kitty - Will always hug anyone who will let her but is incredibly clingy and eventually will need to be pried off finger by finger at some point, even she finds it difficult to stop when she wants to, girl has serious touch-starvation, especially with other women.
Thomas - Similar to Kitty, gives pretty good hugs, might try to sneak in some hair stroking...sniffing? Ew, no, he's made it creepy even though he assures you he's being chaste and you probably wanna step back, he just needs to learn about boundaries.
Humphrey (head bit) - obviously he can't really reciprocate but is happy to be carried around and hugged like a comfort toy that can also be a good confidante.
Humphrey (body bit) - surprisingly gives very good hugs but like....would you want to? Also is he hugging or just trying to see who is there, it's hard to tell.
Pat - gives very nice Dad hugs but just be very careful of the arrow. Prefers mutual shoulder rubs more often.
Fanny - if she's in a very affectionate mood she might pat you on the head or the back of your hand. Trick her into thinking you're one of her pets and she will suddenly get very sentimental, crushing you in her arms.
Captain - Has the potential to give the best Dad hugs but needs a LOT of practice and learning not to be so rigid and military because he will welcome a hug but it's a bit like trying to cuddle a lamp post until he let's his defences down.
Robin - Gives the tightest and fluffiest hugs, closest thing you will feel to being hugged by a bear that won't try to kill you, just make sure to hold your nose until you're used to the smell and maybe try not to leave your head close to his beard because those fleas can jump.
Julian - Again, would you want to? He probably wouldn't. Try if you really want but maybe settle for a friendly arm around the shoulder and you'll both be content.
Mary (were she still around) - Proper comfy Mum hugs but like Robin you have to be able to bear the smell.
Plague ghosts - These guys are all amazing huggers but no one outside their circle will ever know. Jemima also can be very affectionate and clingy once people stop being afraid of her.

Each year on each ghost's birthday they become corporeal, still dead, still ghosts, just corporeal. If they were to walk into the wall, they wouldn't glide through it like they usually do, they'd just bump into it. Livings still can't see them, except for Alison, and Alison is the only living they can touch without feeling sick since she has the sight.
It's also their only chance to leave the grounds. They still can't change outfits; their clothes would just go straight back on them like in canon. So if they go on a day trip with Alison, they'll get a lot of weird looks. It's also the only opportunity they get to eat something or drink.
(Edit: They can change outfits but livings would see them. By 'them' I mean that the living would just see an outfit standing and walking on its own, like an invisible mannequin. So changing outfits has to be kept in the house only)
All the ghosts thought this was some kind of miracle work at first but as the years went on it turned into their birthday parties. All except Robin; the others thought he'd be bouncing off the walls, but no. He stood rock solid in place for most of the day, unable to move. It's been so long, so so long since he's even felt what the ground feels like under his boots, or the breeze, or all the scents of nature that he'd forgotten.
But it's not all bad, when he finally started walking around, he met up with his mouse family and finally got to stroke one of the newborns with his pinkie. He was a fluffy mess after that.
For the first few birthdays, Robin didn't want to leave the house at all ( it was over stimulating for bby🥺) , not even to go outside, but as the years went on he started to enjoy it again. And Alison always liked to surprise them with some of their favourite foods. Robin's was a little difficult at first, so she had to substitute mammoth steak with beef. Rump steak just how he'd like it. She made it authentic by converting one of the outdoor dog kennels into a mini smokehouse to cook it.
Humphrey's head actually stays on during his birthday, just as long as someone places it on his shoulders before midnight. (When Amy dies, she tries to get everybody to try some Monster even if it's only a sip, just to see their reaction). If the door is open, Alison always catches Robin heading to the lake to drink, so she teaches him how to use the taps and the kettle (He doesn't bother with those and instead becomes obsessed with Fruit Shoot blackcurrant cause why not? 😂)
Alison obviously bakes birthday cakes for them:
Robin: Basic vanilla sponge decorated to look like the moon
Kitty: Any kind of lava cake or Sticky Toffee Pudding
Fanny: Lemon Drizzle or Victoria Sponge
Cap: Says he'll take a Victoria Sponge but falls in L O V E with the Battenbergs
Pat: Prefers little cupcakes so that there's plenty to choose from rather than one big cake. So, he opts for Sprinkle cakes or Flapjacks
Thomas: Black Forest Gateau or Chocolate Eclairs
Julian: Says he'd like a Rum cake Or Spotted Dick just to crack jokes about it but secretly loves Bakewell Tarts
Humphrey: Red Velvet cake or any kind of dark chocolate cheesecake
Mary: She likes muffins, anything colourful. Jam Tarts are high up on her list but Rainbow cake wins her over

Mia Cooper headcannons (they don't leave AU):
She was able to see Ghosts even past the age of learning to walk, no one knows why, but they suspect it might somehow be genetic due to Alison's rare ability.
She is homeschooled all the way up until college. She uses a program that doesn't require Alison and Mike to be her teachers, and if she ever ends up needing help, she goes to the Ghosts. Thomas is a wizz with English obviously, and The Captain is her tudor for History class. Fanny helps in. . . Interesting ways, usually bossing Mia about until she gets the anwser what Fanny assumes to be correct.
One term in Mias secondary school English class, they are focusing on poems. One of the required stories they have to read is Hermione and Rodger, written by Francis Button. Mia is furious, Thomas died the day of the poems premiere, so it was just obviously another way for Francis to steal something that was rightfully his, taking the un-published poem. Thomas is absolutely devastated.
Mia sits out by the old well some nights, looking up at the sky, talking to her Auntie Mary.
Mia, growing up so remotely, doesn't have many friends. She has Kitty, of course, who is optimistic enough to understand a child under the age if ten, but its not exactly the same. One night, while up late sitting in the living room, she happens across Jemima. They hit it off, and much to the upstairs ghosts original apprehension, she becomes quite special to them all.
History is her obsession. Especially the Tudor Era royal family. When she learns that Humphreys wife (and Humphrey himself, in some way) was involved in a catholic plot to MURDER the actual queen, she nearly goes ballistic. She asks so many questions that Humphrey nearly can't keep up.
She calls Fanny 'Grandmother' and Captain 'Grandcap', but otherwise everyone else is her Aunts and Uncles.
She enjoys the Plauge Ghosts company. Despite their. . Unsettling appearance, they are very sweet and understanding, especially Nigel, who often offers her a glass of milk.

I think it’s interesting how many of the ghosts extend “you stay how you died” to their feelings/default state
Kitty: died excited and giddy abt the pineapple and the party. Spends her afterlife easily excitable, happy, and trying to insert herself into social situations (the more ppl the better)
Pat: died happily/confidently leading a Scouts activity. Spends his afterlife generally being more of a leader in the group, still creating clubs, and usually having a happy/laid back demeanor
Fanny: died after finding her husband having an affair and furiously confronting him abt it. Spends her afterlife finding faults in people, yelling, and is easily angered/offended
Thomas: died in a duel defending the honor of the woman he loved. Spends his afterlife obsessing over women, even in his dreams, and falling in love after minutes of meeting them
The captain: died trying to prove he was remarkable during the war while also keeping his sexuality a secret. Spends his afterlife repeatedly trying to prove his leadership skills and physical prowess while also being very secretive/defensive abt any personal information
Mary: died by being burned at the stake in a witch trial. Spends her afterlife being one of the more anxious/nervous ghosts, especially when it comes to religious topics or authority figures
Annie: died after getting in an argument with her husband and purposely ignoring what he said out of stubbornness/spite. Spends her afterlife picking fights w men and insulting ppl
I know these are just their personalities but I like to think that death heightened/emphasized it; it didn’t make anything new but expanded on what was already there. Idk abt Robin, humphrey, and Julian tho

what books would the ghosts read do you think?
Robin: Astrophysics textbooks, literally no one else knows what he’s actually reading but he understands it completely
Humphrey: Definitely history books, I think he’d be very interested in art history and perhaps also french history (Sophie <333)
Mary: Picture books!!! She cannot read but that will never stop her!!!
Kitty: The wildest, dirtiest, most fucknasty gay smut ever published. And she giggles profusely the whole time (also she reads fanfic of her favourite shows because I said so)
Thomas: His own poetry, he just recites it to himself. He might other poets but that is only to criticize them. Though I think he’d indulge in some Jane Austen
Fanny: Risqué victorian novels, showing ankles and so on. But I think she’d also explore various educational subjects to expand her knowledge and I love that for her
The Captain: All the books about war strategy, tanks, birds, insects, etc. except for the one time he stumbled across one of kitty’s books (he wasn’t the same for the next week)
Pat: I think he’d enjoy a lot of fantasy like Lord of the Rings, but he also collects a lot of ghost/campfire story books (scary stories to tell in the dark <333)
Julian: Reading is for nerds, but if he had to it would be some sort of pulp fiction, if only for the covers alone lol

I desperately need for Thomas to finally get in a relationship and he's just. At a loss. He gets into a honeymoon phase right away and falls out of it after a week tops and now he just doesn't know where to go. He got his love, and now he just feels sort of... Done? Like this is all there is to it? But he knows that there's SUPPOSED to be more he just doesn't quite... Understand...
I desparately need for Thomas to be lithromantic 😫
