I don't like a lot of you either. I'd have been over this fandom ages ago if I wasn't into making dubious translations of Asian art. Anyway, nobody has yet to answer my question about why it's acceptable in fandom to be a shitting dick nipple fkn furry into a million stupid fetishes, yet a lot of those people still have the gall to have a 'Proshippers DNI' on their pages. Why is it okay to cherry pick the two things? (Pedophilia/Incest) but it's okay to belong to a group of people (furries) who are overrepresented in irl cases of sexual abuse? Side note: A lot of furries I've encountered are into belly kink. I can see the appeal of it if the person with the fat belly is pretty looking, like the Dabiten ship. Another side note: Is there the same sort of crap in other fandoms one sees in submas? -Like does every other fandom get flooded with two-dick dragon morbidly obese omegaverse bullshit? I'll say it again because I have the right to my opinion....I'll bet a lot of monster fkn bullshit is trans coded, like they want to normalize fat hairy men with vaginas and/or dubious genitals (like multiple dicks, yo..) looking pregnant. It's yet another side effect of our fossil fuel driven glut where too many people have amygdales not functioning correctly which causes dysfunction with dopamine regulation. A person with a healthy sense of their own mortality would be repulsed by pregnant trans male figures because of the potential of getting a really messed up baby.

Seriously, doctors are supposed to experiment on animals before moving to humans. How many female animals were pumped with male hormones then made pregnant? Have there been a lot of studies done on what unnatural male hormones might do to a developing baby in the womb? -Or are we in the midst of ongoing legal experimentation on humans?

amanita design is literally like the all-timer for 00s indie devs. ive known of their point-and-clicks for basically the entire time ive been conscious. i think ive only played samorost 1 and machinarium before now.

its hard to beat the level of vibes-based gaming samorost operates on. this is what gnome tumblr is all about

apparently in 2020 this got a remaster that let the game support modern resolutions using AI upscaling on old assets, and to its credit it ran awesome for a game this old. it didnt fuss at all about tabbing out or using a second monitor while playing. however i think the upscaled assets look pretty shit? lol. like the art direction in this game is extremely strong but the raster images definitely were not meant to be seen bigger than 1024x768 and it makes the characters who scaled up much better stick out suuuper bad.

T.A.R.S - $1.99

first thing i got struck by with this game is that it is extremely good looking for the price tag and my lowered standards. there is also a lot of voice acting which is pretty amateur but a lot of heart went into it. i could not find an option to subtitle the dialogue which kinda sucked

T.A.R.S is a third person shooter with a focus on difficulty via being killed in one hit and having very limited resources. you're fighting werewolves or something. i didn't play long enough to see them do more than just chase after me in a straight line so idk if the enemy AI is interesting

one of the big downsides of T.A.R.S is that the game is dark as fuck. shot like a modern hollywood film. like that one episode of game of thrones. i cant play this on my high refresh rate monitor because the sun is up right now and the ambient light in my room is too much and i cant see anything. also the game emphasizes wearing headphones and focusing on hearing the enemies before you see them but the sound design is um. not great. i kept getting snuck up on because the guys dont make any noises until theyre two inches away

i don't think i gave this a good enough chance but i'm not a horror fan nor am i a shooter fan so it's really not for caelums. maybe you'll like it tho

panic factory is a puzzler pretending to be a shooter. you are an eco-activist that has been trapped in a torture dungeon by a corporate CEO and need to figure your way out. with a shotgun. and whatever ammo you can scrounge up

the voice acting in this is very hammy and the pixel art is appealing to look at so the presentation is pretty solid. i found this difficult to spend a lot of time in because again i don't like shooters and i found that the reaction times this game expects out of you in the first level to a be a bit extreme. also required arrow keys to move :thumbsdown:

I was reading ur post about the Brazilian education system (which sounds fucking incredible by the way) and it reminded me of smth

I have no intention of becoming a teacher, but my sister is one and she works in a primary school (her class is ages 5-6), and when she was in university she showed me loads of things about the reflecting realities study

I think it was made in 2017 and it was a study on how well children's books reflected the world around us, ie how many books published had protagonists of colour and obviously the results were dire

I'd have to look it up but there were very few people of colour and a hell of a lot of white characters, but what was especially interesting was that when Black Lives Matter got more prevelence last year a lot of publishing houses got put under pressure to add more people of colour in their books

And when the 2020 reflecting realities study came in and while there was more people of colour and less white people, the number of animals being the main protagonists completely jumped up

And it's just terrible because of stories with main casts of animals still fall into the exact same racist stereotypes. Like often they follow the protagonist of a cute fluffy animal as they struggle against the predetory snake or bear, both of which are completely different to them physically and explicitly a threat - this could also be stranger danger

And I mean, what's worse is when they're consciously trying to use animals as an allegory - I mean Zootopia? Anyone? Disney making the allegory for people of colour into literal predetors really wasn't the woke moment they thought it was

And I was just thinkinf about how this kind of follows through into the fantasy genre. I'm gonna be tentative here because Im no expert on this so call me out if you think I'm wrong. Like I'm glad that the shadowhunters cadting directors hired more actors of colour to the team because othereise it would be overwhelmingly pasty, I can't help but notice the decision to cast Luke, the only black man, as an animal and how they changed his character entirely as well

Because (this is not pro cc) Luke in the books was a gentle white bookshop owner, and the show changed him into a cop, and the second time we see him or so he's been injured from fighting (ie not depicted as gentle) ? For some reason (this could just be for plot purposes but u know) There's whole essays online about how media uses black cops in shows and movies to prevent criticism against them but that's a whole other post

(tentative again but do you think that it was kidn of to distance itself from real world issues? Like shadowhunters can obviously be read as the fantasy police force, but by making Luke a downworlder and a cop I feel like maybe they're moving as far away from being properly critical as they can)

That being said, I love show Luke I think he's fantastic, and I way prefer his competancy instead of wimpy white book Luke but I think he can fit the trope in media where characters of colour are depicted as animalistic, ie TWILIGHTs wolves being all native people!!! and I feel like often it just helps to reinforce a lot of the aggressive stereotyoes against poc

Idk how to finish this. In conclusion publishing houses seem to find it easier to publish stories about animals than people of colour and that's a big fat problem. Also how instead of you know publishing books by authors of colour several responded to criticism by just rereleasing collections of classics with black people on the cover - like that solves anythung

about luke: yep. i'm not sure they cast isaiah because he was a werewolf, i think it's genuinely just because he was a good actor (especially because so many other originally white characters got actors of color in the show) but sh and tsc did pick the race of the downworlders in the most cursed way. the two most important black characters were both werewolves (i know ur in s1 but maia also exists in tsc so), literally ALL the werewolves except for russell were either black or latine, even the minor ones (bat, alaric, gretel), the only jewish character drinks blood (COME ON), raphael is also animalized a lot "on account of being a vampire" whereas simon is not (and even camille isn't and she was supposed to be white so)

the decision to make luke a black cop will always be something i'll hate. can we stop trying to make cops diverse. cops are oppressors. get out of here with the propaganda

im not sure the thing about luke being hurt is supposed to imply he's violent tho, i think it's more supposed to be like "poor him, a great serviceman of the people, risking his life at the job" which is copaganda and therefore still racist, but, in a different way daoidjsaj

i think there could have been a good critique/parallel there with luke being black and a cop and an ex-shadowhunter downworlder, but that would have to be handled REALLY carefully so im actually kind of glad sh didn't even try to do that. also it would require luke to have actual growth as a character instead of just being clary's caretaker #4, and his internalized anti-downrorldism and bootlicking tendencies to be addressed and become a liberation plotline. which again, sh could never

Actually, as long as I’m talking about games, time for a ramble

The project that sent me into ventposting territory yesterday is another voltron game that I’ve been beating my head against for like a month? Basically, an urban fantasy au with a switching pov that uncovers a couple of mysteries, with different plots you can explore based on your choices. Allura lives, Lotor gets a redemption arc, the team actually comes off as friends that support each other. Maybe it doesn’t have QUITE the appeal that a canonverse story would, but it’s adopted from a fic that I tried to write a bit before the desert keith game swooped in and monopolized my time/energy.

But an entire month in I’m realizing... the program I used on Desert Keith is REALLY ill-suited for the game I’m trying to make. IF is good for mysteries, but NOT dialogue and large groups of people. There was definitely an ooc reason Keith didn’t talk to anyone besides wildlife. In the program I was using before, the player gets to type in anything they want, and then I had to wrangle 20 variations of "Ask Keith _" "Ask Keith about _" "Keith, _?" or just "__?" into a way the program would understand, knowing that SOMEONE is going to come up with a weird way to say it and confuse the program despite my best attempts

And then, because they can ask anything, that means I need a response for anything. So there's a dozen lines of: 

If they ask about wolves/wolf/werewolf/werewolves/pack/transformation/full moon/new moon/moon cycle/moon, say "Idk man, I'm definitely not a werewolf so I can't tell you" 

If they ask about your tragic backstory/past/history/family/story/childhood/mom/dad/mother/father/parent/parents, say "I have amnesia, fuck off" 

If they ask about music/song/songs/favorite song/bop/banger, say "How is this relevant, why do yall care to know. Leave me in peace"

It's so many variables and so many options and SOMEONE is going to be a smartass anyway and talk to a character about 2014 meme culture or something that OFC I didn't think of 

After typing that out, I realize I have a lot of aggression against the entire concept.

So! As much as I actually liked writing IF games for literally anything else, it’s terrible for a story where warm, pre-scripted conversations give people the warm fuzzies. Plus, because it dumps all the text it has every turn, allowing a conversation to unfold isn’t an option, because people’s eyes will glaze over if they see 20 paragraphs of conversation they have to scroll back up through. Plus, with diverging storylines, I’d need to juggle a lot of variables, so a character doesn’t mention an event that didn’t happen bc of the player’s choices.

Allura: So how about that death we witnessed, huh? You know, when Ulaz died to save us? Shiro: what??? Ulaz, standing right next to them: what?!?!

Anyway, a new kind of game, that’s better suited to a dialog heavy story with a big cast and diverging plotlines? Plus, a little more familiar to our generation?

Visual novel seems like the ticket, and I’ve figured out how to embed it in a webpage already, so no download needed on this one either. The language isn’t something I’m really familiar with, but I didn’t know how to write IF when I started desert Keith either, so I think I could pick it up really quickly.

Three downsides tho: 

1) Less chance for me to write out atmosphere. What’s even the point of me writing if I can’t spend 3 paragraphs talking about how the weather makes people feel? (actually, this may be a pro)

2) Lots of images will make it a much heavier burden on people’s internet speed and available memory, and limit how much they can use it on mobile. I was able to have several different tabs of the keith game open on mobile without slowing down my very cheap and very old phone. Even someone on desktop may have to wait for a VN to load.

3)I can’t fucking draw

Like, at all. 

So that leaves me with either

A) Learning to draw??? yeah, I’ll get right on that

B) Photoshop, screenshots and stock images. It’s a passible idea, although I’ll have difficulty finding shots I need? Plus, means I probably have to cut the alien characters out? Lotor and Allura could be shopped to look human, but Kolivan and Sendak not as much

C) Going on character creation websites and getting as close as I can? Easy to humanize the aliens, hard to get any sort of personality into the characters. Plus, forces everyone into the same kind of skinny anime twink body type? Valid for like Keith and Lance, not so much for Hunk or Shiro

D) Having an actual artist draw everything. I’ve had two very talented girls who volunteered, but I do feel bad asking for a huge commitment from very busy artists who I definitely can’t pay for their time and skill. 

ANYWAY

The other game in the works is a small and simple (we’ll see if that lasts) game about Shiro as a companion piece to the Keith one

So do you like to watch spoopy movies cause they're fun to watch or do you like it cause when you're with someone (typically easily scared people) they tend to be jumpy ;) Tbh tho I'd rather hang out and watch how comically bad decisions are made in horror films with em, just having a laugh.

I like to face my fears! I started with 8 Legged freaks, creep show, tales of the crypt , Big Ass Spider, frost spiders 1 and 2 and so on. Also i was heavily amazed about werewolves and vampires and how awesome they were even tho some rated B movies reeeeeeeeelly reeled in the sex appeal. I admit ive never been in a position where someone was more scared than me unless it was my other brother and he kept jumping behind the couch and pacing. I dont mind that but he missed scenes and then asked me what happened then miss scenes again like bruh wait till i finish it before i tell you what it was about! Usually I watch scary movies alone, but i’d like to enjoy them w ppls or get terrified of them with ppls

Spring or autumn! I really want the rain and the leaves.

Oof, what am I not excited about. Skating, swingsets and the gardening are the highest ones. I have been craving some more like family-friendly activities and ice-skating and roller skating have me REALLY HYPED.

WINTER. I’ve been dreaming for ages about moving somewhere where the temperature actually drops below 50F for more than a few days and actually snows.

I love succulents and cacti. I don’t really have a favorite flower, I like flowers, but my heart calls to all succulents and cacti.

Forest! There’s a lot of trails around my house and it’s so quiet and it’s sooo nice and inspiring and I really should walk them more than I do.

Uh, I guess ocean. I’ve only really gone to the ocean like 2 or 3 times in my life (that i can remember) but I know I really liked it and I had more fun than whenever I go to the pool. The pool is hella boring to me.

Hot. Sunny. Hell. I only have one pair of shorts and it’s like 100 today. I hate it.

14. what new traits would you like to see in the new add-on?

I hope they add loves/hates heat/cold. I would be very shocked if they didn’t. I kind of wish there was a trait that was made them better at physical activities?? Not just like yeah I’m active, but like they just have an easier time with sporty activities.

15. do you like to play with supernatural creatures like vampires and aliens? and if so, would you like to have witches/fairies/elves?

I played with vampires once and really liked them, but I really don’t like aliens. I wasn’t overly impressed with them. (I really love faliens tho LOL). I would LOVE witches/fairies/elves. I miss werewolves a lot though. I was sad that they didn’t add them in with vampires, it seemed like it would’ve been easy.

16. what is your favorite thing to do during winter?

Curl up by the fire with a billion blankets, or read by open windows. Sit outside and people watch. I really like walking around in winter too, like get some good music, bundle up and just go for a stroll.

17. …during spring?

Stay indoors. Drive around a bit, celebrate every single day that it rains. Dance in the rain, take videos of the rain. Cry when the temperature goes above 80.

18. …during summer?

Stay inside and never ever go outside. I know some people really like grilling and I’m really confused why that’s a summer thing. Like why do something that’s hot af when it’s hot af outside. I’m genuinely curious.

19. …during autumn?

Same as winter, as soon as the temperature drops I’ll be chillin outside all the time.

21. in which neighborhood are you going to play first with seasons?

This might change as I’m not really sure where my families will be June 22, but Brindleton Bay is my fav neighborhood so probably there.

22. do you listen to music while playing? and if so, what are your favorite songs to play to?

Yes i do! If i’m going to be building, I’ll put on some instrumental music from other games. Most likely ts2 or zelda. I really like playing with game soundtracks in the background. If it’s not that it’s whatever I’m feeling that day. Like today it’s a lot of The Strokes and Elderbrook.

23. what’s your favorite thing to do in the sims? creating sims, building, etc?

Building or gameplay. I switch off between the two a lot, whenever I get bored of one I switch to the other, but I never really just go and make sims... idk that just never appeals to me.

24. what’s your favorite kit/pack/add-on?

Pets. Without a second thought

25. and finally, what add-on/pack would you like to see next?

University, or more building tools/gardening stuff. I want more vines and roofing options. I drive around a lot and keep seeing rooflines that I’m like wow I wish I could do that in sims.

2 PM: wow i should write today. i’ll wait until i’ve digested lunch a bit more.

3 PM: wow i should write today. but i’m wriggly, i should dance around a bit more.

5 PM: wow i should write today. i’m all danced out and have come up wht a ton of scenes for stories i’m not gonna be writing but hmmm This Current Fic sounds really nice. i’m just gonna check on tumblr and flight rising and webcomics and reddit/relationships first

7 PM: wow i should write today. but it’s too late we’re having dinner now. after dinner tho!

9 PM: wow i should write today. but i’m not done digesting. how about i refresh tumblr/webcomics/etc again a few dozen times each in case they’ve updated while i was on another site.

Midnight: OKAY TIME TO START... wait bedtime is in two hours is it Worth It i mean what if i don’t have enough time to get in the groove and i have to GO TO BED in the MIDDLE OF WRITING

Possibility 1) better not start at all ANOTHER DAY WASTED NOT WRITING GO ME

Possibility 2) i wrote awesome stuff for one hour in  between getting distracted and forcing myself back on task and then was so brain-dead from sleepiness that after that point i only managed shit i might have to delete and now i’m frustrated and angry at myself because i had the scene SO CLEAR in my mind and i can’t concentrate to string two sentences together AAAAAAjsbgufff.

5 am: in bed, not writing, not having written, too tense and annoyed about that to fall asleep.

Next day: wow i should write today. it’s gonna be awesome, i'm sure me being chronically sleep deprived in no way affects my procrastination and concentration issues! so when i eventually fail to write again it’s gonna be 100% a willpower issue. but i want to write so much! i’ll start any minute now.

“awkward”. i need to stop overusing that word. also “this dude does something hot/i Figure Out Something Big” followed by the single “Oh.”. i mean i love it but it’s everywhere in my fics, i need to figure out another way to show quiet stunned realizations.

i don’t like that when i haven’t written in a while i feel like i’ve forgotten how to make good snappy sentences and evocative imagery. i also don’t like when i’m writing a scene in fits and starts over three months because it might read fine to others idk but to me i can’t feel if it’s flowing or not, it feels frankensteinish. is there emotional continuity? is the narrative voice still the same? etc etc.

Hello! This has been something that I was wondering for a while and since you really love werewolves, I figured you’d be the person to ask. I don’t get the appeal of werewolves. Having anyone try to force me into something is a major turn off. I don’t like aggressiveness and so many stories write werewolves like that, so I’m confused to the appeal. Maybe I’m not reading the right stories? If you want, could you explain it to me? Either way, I hope you have a good day.

I don't like the idea of being forced into anything either, that is a somewhat common theme in werewolves as it taps into a kind of primal instinct, especially when anything nsfw is involved.With aggressiveness, that's something I do enjoy in theory. One of my top kinks is primal. So scratching, biting, growling, and general physical roughness.I can't give a real reason why I like werewolves as much as I do. It's not something everyone's gonna like, but for some reason it's just an idea that appeals to me. This is all in theory tho, I dunno if I could be friends with a real werewolf, depends on how right Hollywood is about them I suppose.I don't really have any good suggestions for writing with werewolves that aren't somewhat aggressive, I've been meaning to write some domestic werewolf!zen fluff but I never got to it, there's a chance you could enjoy that. But again, werewolves aren't for everyone.

honestly i can get behind pretty much any monster that’s well-designed and cool to look at. i really hate like...overly grotesque, complicated-looking monsters, like i feel like there should be at least something visually appealing about them? even if its in a weird sort of way. they should be interesting or even like...darkly beautiful in a way i guess. 

@walkwithelias made a good point in that demons have a lot of potential for interesting visuals and im always a sucker for werewolves so there’s some specifics for u.

I really enjoyed the Fairyland series by Catherynne Valente. It's definitely more middle grade though, but I thought it captured the aspect of "rules" really nicely.

i don’t know any tv/movies w fey but i also don’t really watch a lot so if anyone knows of any pls share!! ofc i also think that media as a whole is less interested in them bc fey are 1. much less mainstream than other sorts of supernatural creatures. less books exist about them, in my experience, they’re less discussed, and fewer people know about them. 2. they’re much harder to do, in my opinion. fey are my favorite bc, when done well, they have the perfect mix of dark, sexy, and mischievous. having to remember all sorts of rules and such i don’t really think appeals to readers as much 3. just in terms of cost, creating an entire fey realm is a lot more expensive than sticking some werewolves in a forest lol

anyway!! i actually apparently have not read every faery book in existence. thank u for the recs!!
