The biggest Christmas gift.
As the story's title suggests, this is a little, Christmas related story about my petty revenge against my brother. TL;DR at the bottom. Also obligatory FTP, LTL and English is my second language, so please bear with me.
To set the scene,
the 'plot' for my revenge, so to speak of, started in the early days of October. That's when I have my birthday. On the actual day however, my little brother(B for brother) forgot about it. He went to his girlfriend's house around midday without congratulating me (yet). That would not have been a problem for me honestly, I also obviously didn't want to walz around him "hurr durr durr my birthday" to remind him and everyone can forget things. He texted me later in the day and congratulated me tho. I then had to leave the next day for a work related travel and was gone for 3 days and he didnt come home on my birthday so we didn't see each other until I came back.
That's when B came up to me, apologized briefly for forgetting, we hugged and he congratulated and gave me his present.
It was a bag of Spekulatius; if you dont know, it's a kind of spiced biscuit, usually eaten around the Christmas time (- since a few years they start to sell them as early as September tho). I love Spekulatius btw.
But I think I should clarify the following part or I might look way pettier than I'd like to. I would have been fine with him wishing me a happy birthday. I dont need gifts, I don't even particularly look forward to my birthday. On the other hand I usually get B gifts worth between 30-50€, in Steam gift cards and other smaller personal items.
So while I dont expect him to gift me anything, when he does, I kind of expect something at least similar in return. That's why I was a bit 'meh' when I got 1,50€ biscuits (I obviously hid that and I honestly didnt hold a grudge against him the following months).
His mistake was however that he said "I got you the biggest bag I could find for you".
So I decided I would return the favour.
Over the next months I collected every newspaper at work and got myself a huge cardbox. It was 1m wide, around 45cm deep and 1m high; 100cm x 45cm x 100cm.
Then I went and bought B a single bar of Milka chocolate.
Last Friday (21st) I took my cardbox and my newspapers home.
I put the single chocolate bar at the very bottom and the filled it to the brim with newspaper. The whole thing weighted nearly 20kg.
Then I spent almost half a roll of fancy paper to wrap it in.
I heaved it beneath the Christmas tree and waited.
When the time came to unpack our boxes, it was priceless!
He saw the huge cardbox and then the newspaper and first expected some glassware. He digged through the newspaper and didnt find anything even after he took out a considerable amount of paper.
He then asked me if there even was anything in there and I obviously encouraged him to look further.
My brother eventually managed to dig his way to the bottom.
He found the bar.
The excitement about the huge package, the confused expression when he did not find anything, and the laughter after he found the chocolate.
We had a good laugh about the whole thing afterwards :)
TL;DR: Brother gets me "the biggest bag" of bisciuts for my birthday, I get him a cardbox of old newspapers and a chocolate bar for Christmas.
As a sidenote I want to add, that I received a 20€ Steam gift card and a really cool Pokemon Plushie from B.
I additionally gifted him Stardew Valley, a refillable water bottle and a 20€ gift card.
