[ It had been a while since I had taken my camera out with me during sunrise, due to a self-imposed effort to enjoy what's around me mor versus focusing on capturing it. The soft spoken soul to the left approached, offering to take my photo during this morning's sunrise. Introducing himself as Mike and explaining that he's been living on the beach, he reached out in gesture of offering; his open hand with a slight shake to it as tears streamed down his face. I asked, "Are you okay, Mike?" Smiling into the sun and closing his eyes tight, he whispered, "never better." I'd be lying if I said I wasn't expecting him to ask for some money but his pitch never came. Instead he offered me a towel or blanket in case I was cold. Sometimes, in this hardened world where mayhem and brutality, scandal and severity have become "ordinary" imagery of "the times," inescapably woven into any and every outlet... we need a reminder that the world is still what we make it whether we everything or nothing at all.
