Experiments with Mohair + FO: Friends Ear Warmer
Good Morning, Crafters! In my fiber crafts learning journey this week, I made my first finished object using a merino wool, held together with mohair. It seems that crafters are either a fan of mohair or dislike mohair, and I haven't seen anyone in between. So I figured it was time to figure out where I stood in this equation.
A couple of months ago I picked up some colorways in the relatively new Hobbii "Friends" Collection, the idea behind this product line being that you can mix and match the exact colorways across multiple fibers and weights. I think this is an excellent idea to create a line with varied, but reliable colors, and very well has the potential to be a staple when wanting to use a base of solids. There's cottons, kid silk, wool, a cotton and acrylic blend, and extra fine merino for all your fiber fun needs.
As I mentioned, I chose the extra fine merino and kid silk (79) - it will be the same across all fibers, which is also a nice feature and makes my organized brain all happy - also known as "Open Sea." Find the yarn here: Kid Silk, Extra Fine Merino Find the Friends Collection Here. With kid silk, I am getting not the pure experience of mohair, as it actually is a blend with 72% Mohair, 25% Silk, 3% Wool. I don't have a comparison, but I can tell you the silk probably gives it a bit of shimmer and possibly softens the yarn. But merino and mohair from what I've read both tend to be considered soft wools, and are not the experience one might think of. If you are thinking of the scratchy stuff, these are not it. I can attest they feel like clouds, so I think they would be good for those with sensitive skin. As long as you are not allergic to the fiber, which can happen too. With my yarns delivered, I first wanted to go about exploring the difference in the color. There's always bound to be some variety based on the way the fibers are able to hold the dye (I am sure there is a scientific word for that), but I was surprised to see that not only was the color as I expected based on the colors on my computer screen, but also that they did match each other even closer than I expected. I also ordered a pink in the kid silk and cotton (37) or "Rosewood."
It was then time to start working up my skeins to see how they worked together, and to determine where I stood with these materials.
Since softness was key, I figured I should test it on a pattern close to the skin. I chose a headband pattern from Hobbii, that was designed for their Universe line, but is an easy one to adjust for different yarn weights and desired width. This is a crochet pattern, and will create a gorgeous texture with alternating post stitches. You can find the FREE pattern here.
The first thing I realized - the mohair creates a GORGEOUS natural halo. And that I think is the first thing to recognize about your own aesthetic when deciding whether to give mohair a try. Halo is those errant strands of fiber around your work - sometimes occurring overtime with use - and in this case, added intentionally because it will change the look of your fabric, but also provide extra warmth and softness. I think an ear warmer was the perfect choice of project for these yarns, and in my case, I really enjoyed the slight nuance of the new fabric I was creating - the kid silk adding just a bit of light to the matte of the merino.
There's a downside - this was not a froggable project. When I was first beginning the headband, I wasn't happy initially with the width and wanted to pull everything back to make it smaller. When I went to frog, I only felt comfortable going back a row, worrying that I would break the strands if I tugged it harder. Since I only had the one skein each, I chose to keep going forward. I am glad I did, because the end result is just right with the twist sewn in. You know - perfect - just as we are about to go into the warmth of Spring.
I'll keep it for winter. <3
In the end Mohair - would try again! I feel like there could be a definitely appeal to expand into more adventurous color combinations now that I've seen how the strands and colors work together. I can definitely see that rosewood color way with a different yarn that could completely transform the look. I get it, I definitely do. **I am new to this fiber journey**

Parisian fabric stores and merceries (Part 1)
These are the fabric and haberdashery shops I visited during my first ever trip to Paris. I wrote 'Part 1' because I now know I'll be visiting fabric stores on every one of my trips to Paris haha but we cannot guarantee when Part 2 will happen.
Firstly, let me say that the staff I met were very friendly and patient with my broken French (I bet they’d rather I speak English haha, but I was determined to practice my French!) See the end of this article for some vocabulary that you might find helpful~ (Edit: I forgot to add the vocabulary. I will make a separate post on this.)
I was mainly concerned with natural silks and wools and looked at viscose and cotton fabrics for dresses too. Many of these shops did have a good range of polyester and upholstery (natural and synthetic) fabrics, though I tended to skip through these.
La Mercerie Parisienne
8 Rue des Francs Bourgeois, 75003 Paris
Mostly a mercerie. Huge range of buttons and ribbons. Fabrics, threads and yarns too (see their website). Good range of options made from natural materials. Generally it’s that kind of well-curated mercerie that is on the pricier side. But dear is it beautiful and well-stocked!
Ultramod
4 Rue de Choiseul, 75002 Paris
They have two stores opposite each other. One is a beautiful millinery shop, and the other is a mercerie. Huge range of very beautiful ribbons, though mostly synthetic. Also fabrics (thin polyester tissue fabrics) and other bits and bobs. They do carry Mokuba ribbons and receives quite some Japanese visitors for some reason (?). They have several boxes of white laces, including some antique ones that are in cotton. Most are polyester, no silk or wool.
Prices are fair, though not super cheap. Well worth a visit, especially if you are looking for millinery-related or interior décor stuff!

Marché Saint-Pierre
2 Rue Charles Nodier, 75018 Paris
Large fabric store in Montmartre with several storeys, with all kinds of fabrics, haberdashery and some yarns too. Silks come in several basic weaves in solid colours. Wools are in the usual wool patterns and solid colours, mostly grey and black. A few basic rainbow colours for wool crepes. They have a surprisingly nice stack of Tencel fabrics on the ground floor (coupons there too).
Decent prices for European wool. I got the last 1.65m of a medium-thick herringbone for 58 euros.
Tissus Reine
3-5 Pl. Saint-Pierre, 75018 Paris
Huge fabric store, similar to Marché Saint-Pierre, but slightly more organized and pricier (still reasonable). Good range of printed cotton (liberty and other brands) and some viscose. Silk comes in very limited weaves but if you are looking for dupioni, this is the place to go hahahaha. Most wools are 20% polyamide though you can find some pure wools too.
Atelier Brunette Condorcet
40 Rue Condorcet, 75009 Paris
A young and boutique store for plant fabrics—mostly Tencel and other environmentally friendly choices in crepe or plain weave. A very limited range of soft, subdued solid colours and prints. They produce matching buttons for their fabrics, and some other bits and bobs too. Prices are beautiful during the sale season, otherwise on the pricier side.
I have bought three pieces from this store over the time and so far am very happy with them.
Tissus Market
18 Rue du Sentier, 75002 Paris
Badly organized and a grumpy store owner. Rolls of fabrics were leant against the wall, and every metre or so you find a label on the wall saying ‘laine’, ‘coton’, ‘garbadine’, etc. Viscose and polyester fabrics are mixed even though they are very different. It does have a large range of fabrics, and after an hour of digging I managed to find a fine piece of wool. In a moment of panic I forgot to ask the exact composition but the scrawl on my receipt suggested ‘pur laine’.
Tissus de Rêve
40 Rue de Cléry, 75002 Paris
I went to this store because it had some good reviews on Google. Tiny store with mostly silks and wools. Limited colour and types, but cheap.
The region where Tissus Market and Tissus du Rêve are situated seems to be a fabric region with many tiny cramped stores with no sorting system whatsoever and lots of young people—students or young designers I assume—shopping for fabrics. Prices are generally cheap but this is also reflected by the quality.
~~~In conclusion~~~
Paris is good for plain dark-coloured wools.
2. There is only a small range of silks and in outrageous prices. Growing up in the silk-producing region of China, I am too used to the huge range of top-quality and cheap silks there and will limit myself to buying silks only when I’m home in Shanghai.
3. Silk Jacquard does not exist???
4. Colours are limited and dim, even with summer fabrics. Great if you want basic solid colours, but it’s really hard to find more nuanced colours. The exception tends to be children’s fabrics.
Maybe I missed some stores? Did I automatically filter out the more expensive places?
From 10,000 litres of water to zero: the denim industry is transforming
Nanobubbles, ozone or laser. The future of denim fashion is already present thanks to disruptive technologies and more efficient production models aimed at making its manufacturing a more environmentally friendly process.
Jeans are the most democratic and iconic garment in our wardrobe: each year, according to the UN, around 5 billion jeans are made. A fad that needs no explanation: they are comfortable, resistant and so agile that they have managed to evade all borders, slipping into the strict codes of the office or, judging by the latest catwalks, also of Haute Couture. But is sustainability among its benefits? The industry has spent years focused on its transformation, developing more efficient technologies and processes to take advantage of the properties of denim fabric and minimise the use of water and chemicals in its manufacture and finishing. Its big challenges.
«Among the main actions of the industry to avoid these impacts is the use of organic cotton. Many brands are even joining the wave of regenerative cotton and, of course, one type of material”, says Gema Gómez, director and founder of the Slow Fashion Next[1], a fashion and sustainability training platform, highlighting the weight that fabric has in its environmental footprint. Studies, such as the one prepared by the French Agency for the Environment and Energy Control (Ademe)[2], calculate that around 10,000 litres of water are used to obtain 1 jeans, of which close to 60% comes from the high water footprint of conventional cotton crops. «Here it is important to make a distinction: when we talk about sustainability it is not only about what we do, but how we do it. It is true that cotton is a thirsty fibre, but it is not the same if it is grown with irrigation, as it happens with other crops, if it is grown with rainwater, if it is mixed with other types of food crops, or if it is sold It is destined to financially support the farming communities” [3], points out the expert.
Recycled fibres are also beginning to be the norm in its composition. As the environmentalist Núria Nubiola, founder of Infinit Denim[4], points out: "The good thing about denim is that it is a strong and durable material that works very well for recycling." This small Barcelona firm reinvents garments through upcycling and, with the remains of the redesign process, they create a new biodegradable thread. Committing to use this, they have managed to reduce carbon emissions by 70% and amortize the water footprint of the fabric. " We take advantage of the remains of that cut to make the shredded, but the resulting thread is not 100% denim," warns the expert who, through innovation projects, has studied its benefits together with cellulosic fibres such as kapok (from a tree whose large fruits contain soft, light and silky fibres that look like cotton), EcoVero[5] (a type of viscose made with sustainable wood from controlled sources) or hemp. The result is a resistant and versatile yarn that allows you to make both denim and knitted or knitted garments.
From water consumption to the age of air
Although much of the environmental impact of a garment depends on the choice of fabric, the industry has been working for some time to completely change the way jeans are manufactured with disruptive technologies and more efficient models, focused on reducing the consumption of water and chemical substances. Since its founding in 1994, the Valencian software company Jeanologia[6] has focused on inefficient finishing processes, developing a laser marking system that removes the indigo dye from jeans through evaporation. "It replaces the sandblasting technique, potassium permanganate spraying and other manual applications that are harmful to health and the environment," says its marketing director, Carmen Silla, such as pumice-stone washing, which jeopardises the durability of the tissue. She assures that with this technology they have managed to considerably reduce both their water footprint and operating costs. Designers can create a digital file with the desired styles, enter it into the system, and within seconds, the laser transfers it onto the garment. "We make sustainable production scalable, without losing the quality and appearance of the product, obtaining an authentic replica of vintage looks." In fact, they have more than 3,000 lasers installed around the world, 30% of the world's denim production.
From the Valencian company they usually joke that they inaugurated the era of air in the finishing of garments. The explanation can be found inside their famous washing machines, which use ozone instead of water. "Our G2 ozone technology, instead of carrying out a traditional wash with water, washes into the atmosphere. In other words, this technology takes the air from the atmosphere, extracts the oxygen and transforms it into ozone gas, which acts as an oxidant to age the garments naturally”. Silla assures that this method, together with E-Flow technology, has managed to reduce water by 80% and chemicals by 70%. "Until then, the traditional method of transporting chemicals to the garment was through water. However, E-Flow creates nano-air bubbles, a cloud of moisture that transports the chemicals into the textile material without any waste and with a minimal amount of water." Yet another example of how technological innovation can become a great ally of sustainability.
More sustainable dyes
In this search to eradicate the most polluting processes in the manufacture of our clothes, the other aspect in which great advances have been realised, has been in the garment dyeing process. As Gema Gómez explains, in the 70s the composition of denim underwent several changes. On the one hand, natural fibres were mixed with synthetic fibres such as elastane, which, although they improve their elasticity, also put the recycling of the garment to the test. On the other, "they went from natural indigo dye to synthetic, whose ingredients come from petroleum," says the expert, who is committed to the recovery of dyes of vegetable origin. This is the case of the American company Stony Greek Colours,[7] which works with local farms in the production of regenerative rotating crops of indigo, the plant from which the iconic blue of jeans is obtained; or the company Colorifix[8], which manufactures dyes from molasses, a by-product of sugar, with which they make the most of the exploitation of this crop.
Also the image of those blue water tanks is beginning to be a thing of the past. Contrary to the conventional method, which consists of immersing the threads in a series of chemical dyes that give it colour while preventing oxidation, the Valencian company Tejidos Royo[9] presented Dry Indigo dyeing technology in 2018. It is a foam formula, with a nitrogen cover that protects the colour, dyeing the yarn without using a drop of water in the process, reducing the amount of chemicals by 89%, energy consumption by 65% and, consequently, reducing wastewater to zero. Every year the company donates one million litres of drinking water to an NGO, the amount that it has managed to save with this innovative tool.
Counted washes
At this point, we only have to answer what we can do for our jeans. The firms appeal to take advantage of the properties of denim – it is an antibacterial fabric, quite resistant to stains and odours – and limit its washing to only when strictly necessary. "Not only does it help to preserve them, since each wash wears out the fabrics and dyes," says Núria Nubiola, from Infinit denim. «Studies have been carried out on the environmental footprint of jeans and, based on their useful life, which was around eight years, if you washed them every time you put them on, there was more impact on that consumption than on the production". We can reduce visits to the washing machine, airing them after use or cleaning only the stains with a brush and soap. Because sustainability is a shared duty and time is the most sustainable way to give our jeans a personal and unique finish.
Choosing more sustainable jeans
Focus on its composition. Choose jeans with natural fibres from certified organic crops or from recycling, in this way you will ensure that the fabrics have been developed in a more respectful way with the environment. Bet on circular designs. It is increasingly easy to find mono-material jeans on the market – the closer it is to 100%, the greater its recyclability – and circular designs, with minimal trimmings and fibre-friendly finishes, which make it easier to make the most of the fabric. Yes to timeless jeans. The chosen colour and the right fit are two important elements to take into account when looking for a piece that ends up being a good basic that will mock the passage of time in our wardrobe. Also allow time to give it that vintage and worn finish. Fix and reinvent. Thanks to its resistance, denim is upcycling's best friend: a way of turning old jeans into the most groundbreaking item in the wardrobe.
[4] Infinit Denim was born out of a need. An internal call to transform the fashion industry and to do it from its origin: the material. A team of women united to do what appears to be the most reasonable thing: to take advantage of the fibers and fabrics contained in the garments we have already worn to create them an ew. It is as simple as imitating what nature has been doing since its beginnings: introducing "dead" materials into a new cycle, transforming them into "nutrients". https://infinitdenim.com/en/sobre-nosotras/
[5] EcoVero is the sustainable version of viscose. Conventional viscose is very harmful to the environment: the wood for the fibers is often planted as a monoculture (e.g. eucalyptus), which requires a lot of water. Many toxic chemicals are used in the processing. EcoVero is the most environmentally friendly viscose available. EcoVero is certified with the EU Ecolabel because it meets high environmental standards throughout its life cycle: from raw material extraction to production, distribution and waste disposal.
[7] Natural indigo has an established history in textiles and its traditional production methods went largely unchallenged until roughly 100 years ago with the introduction of unsafe synthetic dyes. Synthetic indigo, derived from harmful chemicals (like Benzene, Formaldehyde, and Cyanide), began replacing the natural dyes that had been in use for centuries. Until now, plant-based alternatives could not provide consistent performance to remain the primary market color solution. I'd say the devs are more worried about hitting their launch date without too many hiccups than ******* off the 2 people in the world who care about whether they released a zip or installer.
DEVIL S TUNING FORK ZIP FILE
I agree with your point of a game launch being fragile but if you get to the point where you're seriously worrying about whether your user base is going to freak out about whether you release with an installer or a zip file you've got your priorities mixed up.
DEVIL S TUNING FORK INSTALL
Considering 99% of games say update your drivers and even if you have the newest drivers they still check what directX you have and install the one that works with their game (zomg installer makes this process easy on the devs) unless you have newer that is known to work with your game. I'd say that it doesn't really matter whether the drivers have the newest DX packed with it. I'd like to call in to question your point about gfx drivers having the newest directX. Reply Good karma Bad karma +1 voteĪn installer does look more professional than a zip file.
DEVIL S TUNING FORK PC
Choice is a good thing - the concept runs deep in the PC crowd. Make the setup file more prominent, so users without a preference will go for it first. A simple compromise here is to offer two downloads: a setup file and an archive. With thousands of free games a few clicks away, any barrier between the user and playing is potentially fatal. I realize this is a lot of hot air over a few mouse clicks, but a game launch is a fragile thing and devs need to know about possible causes of annoyance. I do my best to try most indie games I come across, and I'd prefer it if every one didn't take a crap in my start menu and registry. Personally when I see an installer I see an extra annoyance and nothing more. how many gamers are going to need their config files propagated through a network? As far as unprofessional, I have to disagree. The roaming data folder doesn't make much sense. XNA is a problem since it is not as widely distributed, but packaging the redistributable should be enough. Since video card drivers come with the latest DX, developers shouldn't worry much about this. The only hitch here would be things like XNA and DirectX. dlls placed in the same folder as the executable. Libs that have been dynamically linked against can have their. Baseless vitriol aside, let's examine your points.
DIY: Spray Dye!
We've posted bunches of DIYs on dyeing your socks before, it's one of the most fun and easy ways to customize your sock drawer. But, we recently encountered a different way to dye, one that reminds us more of bleach stamping, thanks to it's stencil-ability: spray dye! It's way easier than vat or pot dyeing and super fun, so let's learn how to spray that dye!
Because we wanted to show the full range of possibility, I tried several different techniques: spraying on dry, spraying on damp, spraying on wet, and using smoothly textured stockings. What I learned is that there's a world of ways to mix and match techniques, so if you're interested in using spray dye, get ready to experiment! It's very fun but you'll want to test things out before working on that dream project. Luckily, I've tested some things for you, so you can go into your spray dye session with confidence!
First, here's what you'll need:
A work surface covered with newspaper (and I recommend laying down a plastic trash bag or something, THEN newspaper, for minimum mess). Be sure to really cover everything, you don't want any stray spray spattering things unwanted!
Simple designs to use as stencils. I used some printed-out clip art shapes—here's the sheet I used.
If your designs are on regular printer paper, you'll also want a sturdier piece of card, because it's gonna get soggy quick.
A craft blade to cut out your shapes and something safe to cut on.
Your spray dye, I'm using SEI Tumble Dye, picked up at a local craft store. Other dyes can be diluted and put into spray bottles as well, you'll want to read instructions on the dyes you use for best water-to-dye ratios.
Socks to dye! For science, I'm using a wide range: Extraordinary Thigh Highs, O Basics, Midcalf Woolies and the Opaque Nylon Stockings
Not shown: a place to lay out the socks to dry
Optional: a spray bottle of water
Optional: cardboard to put in the socks for less bleed-through
These spray dyes are pretty neat. I picked up a range of options, they were all under $5 each: two plain colours (Mint and Turquoise), two glitters (Silver and Gold) and a glow in the dark. The instructions are very clear on the packaging, you basically shake before using, spray and dye. They do also say "no gloves needed" but my fingertips ended up getting a bit dyed, so unless you're incredibly neat and way better at spritzing than I am, you may want gloves.
Spray dye on dry socks
I'll start with some Extraordinary Thigh Highs. To prevent excess bleed-through, I cut up an old shipping box into one long strip and slid the sock I was working on over it. It's a little tricky, but if you gather the sock up like you're putting it on a leg, you'll be good.
I cut out my stencil shapes, saving the cut out part to use as a reverse stencil. Simple shapes are good, both in making them easier to cut out and so the edges of the shape aren't lost from the texture of the sock or the dye bleeding.
Time to spray! The bottles were pretty easy to use, but some of the various types had a more stubborn spritzer. I found using both hands to squash the top down (and shaking the bottle regularly) helped a lot.
On a dry sock, the spray beads up a bit and is very "splashy" and airbrush-y, it's neat. I think it'd be really cool mixed with other surface design, like painting or stamping. Or . . . GLOW IN THE DARK DYE.
There's a faint colour to the glow in the dark dye (I'm pointing at it in the second half of the image above), but it's pretty subtle. It sort of blended into the Mint dye, so it's not very noticeable, which is rad. Surprise glow is the best glow. In later testing it seems like going super heavy on your spray by spraying close and several times makes for a better glowing shape.
Once I got one side looking how I wanted, it was time for the next! Having the cardboard inside made it very easy to flip and to hold by the edge so I could line up the splashes of colour. No matter what, you're going to have some "seams" on the sides of what you're spraying, but this helps break it up.
The end result isn't my favourite of the batch, but I am a fan of airbrushing and glow in the dark, so I still like 'em.
Wait, I take back what I said about which is my favourite. Because as soon as the lights are off, these socks ROCK. Please take this blurry, but vividly glowing image as proof of why. It's like proof of Bigfoot's existence, only way more exciting:
DANG! I'm sold.
Spray dye on damp socks
This spray dye says it's particularly good for tie dye, so I knotted and folded up a pair of O Basics and misted them heavily with water. I followed that up with some heavy sprays of Turquoise and hit them again with water, hoping to encourage some colour spread.
The results seem far more subtle than regular tie-dying, as the socks were damp, not wet, so the dye only spread minimally, though misting the water made the edges soften.
The end result is like drifts of clouds, but I personally would stick with a vat or pot for tie dyeing myself, because I prefer long dye times that are easier to achieve when the thing you're dyeing is sitting in the dye, rather than your dye sitting on the thing you're dyeing.
I did try something else rad on this pair, but you gotta wait to the end of the post to really see it.
Spray dye on wet socks
Well, socks, what if we go full-wet? I got a pair of Midcalf Woolies fully soaked and wrung them out thoroughly. I then learned two things.
First, if you're going to work with very wet socks, putting plastic under them will make things a little neater while you're working. I grabbed an old shopping bag, which ended up being perfect because I flipped it after I sprayed one side, so the socks weren't sitting in little puddles of dye.
Second, wet wool sure has a smell I forget about.
I loosely folded the socks sort of accordion-style, to get organic stripes and then liberally spritzed them all over with the Mint dye. Then, using the Turquoise dye I started at the toes, aiming towards the cuffs of the socks, for a sort of gradient.
With this pair I used a "reverse stencil" by laying down a cut out star shape and spraying around it. I super love how this looks and it's partially why this pair is my favourite of the lot.
Also: stripes are the best. And the natural-off white colour of the wool yarn adds a depth to the dye colours I really am digging. Plus, this pair has a little surprise you can probably catch in the images above.
Spray dye on dry nylon stockings
Socks are rad, but when it comes to fine detail their texture keeps things rough. Like RIT, SEI Tumble Dye works across different fibers—from the cotton Extraordinaries and O Basics to the wool Midcalf Woolies. So I knew it'd work great on nylon. Most dyes love nylon. And the super fine and smooth texture of the Opaque Nylon Stockings just begs to be drawn and dyed on!
I went a bit wild with the stencils on this one, but also experimented with drips, not quite by choice (the stencils were getting pretty soggy, but I went with it). The more detailed flower stencil worked like a champ on these stockings!
The finished result is like something a mermaid hippie would be into and that makes me love them.
Tips, treats and wrapping up
Since this has been a more free-form DIY, the various things I noticed trying out this technique get to go here. More than any other surface design technique, spray dye is something you want to keep fiddling with. I'm already eyeballing one pair to hit with the spray again once I've typed this all up.
Lay flat to dry, for real
The instructions on the dye mention that hanging what you've dyed will encourage the dye to bleed downward. If that's not your jam, then lay everything flat to dry on a fresh surface of newspaper. Once everything is nice and dry, put them in the dryer for 20 minutes to heat set the colour.
Sturdier stencils, seriously
I thought I was being all wise, using mid-weight card stock for my stencils. Well, dampness laughs at such hubris. I recommend not using anything less sturdy than a file folder and maybe having a couple of each stenciled shape, so you can swap when they get over-damp. This is a stencil only one pair of socks in, already buckling under the wet.
I also recommend having rags or paper towels on hand to blot your stencils and wipe your hands. Dye will pool and build up on your stencils, making things a little risky when you remove them from your socks.
Watch those wrinkles!
If you're going for a smooth or more patterned look, really use a piece of cardboard inside the sock and make sure everything is nice and flat before you start spraying. The overall look of spray dye is sort of free form; but getting slashes of the sock's colour in the middle of a dyed area, because you forgot to smooth things out, might not be something you want. I still think the stockings this happened to me on look awesome, luckily.
GLITTER!!!
Astute readers may have noticed I mentioned glitter spray dye in my list up at the top and then never mentioned it again. That's because it was 100% the best thing about the spray dyes and I wanted to show off the sparkles. Even as it was making an epic mess on my workspace (they spray much more enthusiastically than the regular dyes), it was beautiful and shimmery.
It's not a heavy sparkle, but what it does do is add a fairy dusting to whatever you're spraying. It took everything in me not to coat all the socks with glitter dye. I did happily get the stockings and the wool socks with it (silver and gold, respectively) and I'm thrilled.
Heads up: we did notice the be-glittered socks shed a little bit of their shimmer onto our hands, but we're not sure what the long term lifespan of the glitter is for these.
Go forth and spray dye!
Like a lot of more free-form dye techniques, spray dye offers a lot of possibility and rewards experimentation. If you've been wanting to play with dye but don't want to mess with the vats and buckets and dipping and dunking, spray dye is a fun and accessible way to spice things up with a little colour. Test and try and keep playing and you'll end up with a pair of socks you love that you made look that awesome!
The Best Eco-Friendly and Sustainable T-Shirt Brand in Pakistan
Fashion has been generating headlines throughout the world in recent years, and the fashion industry has been dragged into the limelight for its environmental impact. And not for any good reason. A business that constantly releases new collections based on fashion icons, trends or celebrity looks, and makes them available to consumers at inexpensive prices, is known as a fashion store. These movements come and go rapidly, putting merchants under continual pressure to keep up with the latest product releases. In addition, it puts pressure on customers to replace worn-out clothing with new ones.
Manufacturers are also forced to create more clothes faster. Farmers are also under more pressure than ever to produce more cotton and do it quickly. As a result, we're all under pressure to do something about this rising issue.
Globally, sustainable fashion is on the rise. In addition to being an acceptable option, buying excellent items from sustainable sources is a fashion trend. An inexpensive T-shirt manufactured using exploitative labor can be purchased by just about anybody, but it takes taste to choose something that looks beautiful and is environmentally friendly. There are many types of T-shirts for mens available in the market. Such as V-neck T-shirt, ringer T-shirt, cap-sleeve T-shirt, pocket T-shirt, neck T-shirt. T-shirts with graphics are popular among all genders.
Shirts with soft and dark hues that have been digitally printed are popular these days. In contrast, logoed shirts are more comfy than other types of clothes.
Cotton is a natural material that may be dyed and woven. Cotton is a plant. Cotton is cultivated in numerous nations, including India, the United States, Egypt, and the Middle East. Cotton is a type of plant fiber that comes from seeds. Textiles made from cotton fibers can be made in a variety of ways (spinning, spinning, coloring, and washing) into yarns, colorful threads, and mixed fabrics (with polyester, lycra and other textile fiber).
Organic Cotton T-shirts are often composed of a light, soft that is easy to clean. It's not just men that benefit from wearing a t-shirt with jeans; it's ladies as well! T-shirts are their favorite casual clothing. It is easy to choose a t-shirt from the wardrobe without giving it a second look. Cool, sporting, and flexible casual top-wear is the t-shirt. As far as t-shirts go, there is nothing more comfy and fashionable.
If you want to know where your clothing originates from, and why it matters, then you need to know the right information about suppliers. On the inside of every garment, you'll discover the signature of the person who produced it.
In terms of color, design, and fit, t-shirts provide a wide range of options, which is why young people prefer to have a collection of them in their closet. All of these t-shirts are likely to become a part of your wardrobe once you see how we express fashion here.
Sustainable T-shirts like Cotton cloth are very important in summer because during the summer months of June and July in Pakistan, the average temperature ranges from 37° to 48°. According to calculations, the average heat index is 43.2°C (109.8°F). Attention: Heat exhaustion and heat cramps are extremely likely to occur. In the case of extended exercise, heatstroke is likely to occur.
It’s very important for men and women both to wear cotton clothes because cotton absorbs sweating from the body, allowing it to evaporate quickly. Our bodies sweat more in the summer, and cotton clothing absorbs moisture to keep our bodies cooler. By improving air circulation and allowing perspiration to evaporate, cotton aids to remove body moisture generated by sweating. Cotton also protects us from creatures such as fungus. For those with sensitive skin, cotton might help reduce the severity of an allergic response.
Hot and cold water can be used to wash organic cotton T-shirts, including those that have already been washed many times. Use a regular washing machine and a mild detergent to clean your clothes. Bleach and fabric softener are two examples of harsh chemicals that should be avoided. Every year, top clothing brands in Pakistan offer a wide range of cotton t-shirts since they know what people need based on climate.
Sheets Buying Guide
There are heaps of interesting points when you purchase bed sheets: Are they solid? Will they wrinkle? How simple are they to put on the sleeping pad? Above all, this home product should be delicate and agreeable on the off chance that they genuinely are excellent sheets.
While percale and material sheets generally feel more fresh, similar to lodging sheets, they're not ideal when you're searching for the mildest sheets. These materials make the gentlest bed sheets:
Sateen: The yarn in one bearing buoys more than a few yarns the other way, giving this kind of weave a smoother feel than an essential, framework like percale. With regards to 100% cotton, our analyzers lean toward sateen for its delicateness.
Wool: The outside of the wool texture is brushed so that it keeps you warm, yet that cycle likewise causes it to feel delicate and comfortable.
Microfiber: These sheets are made of super-meager polyester filaments and give a rich smooth feel. They won't feel as normal as cotton sheets, yet they're generally less costly.
Rayon: This fiber is recovered cellulose – which means it's halfway normal and mostly engineered – yet the result is plush and extraordinarily delicate.
Know that string tally doesn't generally make a difference with regards to delicate sheets: Cotton sateen is just one from this rundown that will have a substantial string check (for example the number of yarns per square inch texture). String check is certainly not the first concern when you look for sheets in light of the fact that the fiber substance and weave are likewise significant as well.
Buying Guide
All of us spend a significant amount of time on our sheets on a day-to-day basis, as it is the place where we rest at night and during the day. Due to this, it’s important to consider the best bed sheets that are durable and soft for the utmost comfortability.
1. Peruse the fiber content first
100% cotton is consistently a brilliant go-to in light of the fact that it's delicate and moderate. In case you're searching for top notch, Extra-Long Staple (ELS) cotton, similar to Egyptian or Pima, is much milder and more solid. The disadvantage is that these sheets might be more costly and you'll need to confide in the organization's assertion; there have been examples of cotton being mislabeled as Egyptian. You can likewise settle on cotton/polyester mixes. Despite the fact that the texture may have a fairly engineered feel, the polyester makes it economical, more solid and less inclined to wrinkling.
2. String tally isn't all that matters
Assembling procedures can permit brands to make high string checks without really expanding quality. Our tests have demonstrated that 300 to 500 is a sweet spot for non-abrasiveness and quality. You can find good 200-string check sheets, but they may not be as comfortable, but keep in mind that anything more than 500 isn't that much better.
3. Know the distinction between weaves
Your essential choices are percale or sateen. Percale is a fundamental, a lattice-like weave that feels light and fresh. Sateen in a glossy silk weave and feels velvety. It's a matter of personal preference, however in our tests, buyers will in general support sateen.
4. It may not accommodate your sleeping cushion
Standard sizes don't represent bedding profundity. So if yours is tall or in the event that you utilize a sleeping cushion clincher, try to gauge before you purchase. It’s very likely that you’ll experience a degree of shrinkage after you wash your sheets the first time. For the most part, fitted sheets that fit up to 15-inch sleeping pads have performed well in our fit tests.
5. Continuously check the merchandise exchange
It is difficult knowing whether you'll adore resting on the sheets until you've given them a shot. A few brands, particularly those that have deals, permit you to make returns under any circumstances, even up to a couple of months after the buy.
How to Choose Sheets That Won't Pull
A great deal of thought goes into picking our custom cabinetry, hardwood floors, marble ledges and tram backsplash tiles, yet shouldn't something be said about the sheets we rest on? It very well may be difficult to figure out what makes a couple of sheets extraordinarily priceless, leaving us feeling somewhat lost during our next excursion to choose new sheet material. The issue isn't as muddled as it sounds, however. A decent method to decide if your present sheets are of high caliber? Scratch a fingernail over the surface. In the event that any material (called pill) falls off, they likely aren't too decent.
Does string tally truly matter?
String tally is in a real sense an estimation of the number of strings are woven into a square inch of the texture. As a rule, the higher the string check, the milder and more tough the sheets are because of their thickness. Your regular sheet set will presumably be in the 200-check range, while a more pleasant set will be as much as 300. There's no motivation to surpass 450, in any case, as it's similar to applying SPF 100 sunblock; ultimately, the number quits importance.
Shouldn't something be said about the kind of material?
The real sort of string matters similarly as much as – if not more than – the string check. The best cotton out there is Egyptian, on account of its more extended strands. Sheets made of Egyptian cotton are smoother and more slender, however will last longer. Pima is your next smartest choice in the event that you don't care for the higher price that accompanies a bunch of Egyptian cotton sheets.
"Simple consideration" sheets are made of a combination of cotton and an engineered polyester mix. They're generally entirely breathable, inasmuch as you ensure the engineered rate is something close to 10 percent.
Cotton isn’t the main material sheets are made of, all things considered. Another famous decision is bamboo, an economical and antimicrobial decision that disposes of additional dampness. In the event that you live in a sticky area or have helpless ventilation in your home, this might be your smartest choice. Silk sheets don't consider a lot of wind current and get exceptionally warm in the late spring, while material is delicate however wrinkly.
Conclusion
When you’re shopping for bed sheets, it’s important to consider the simple product characteristics of the sheets that are oftentimes overlooked. When you know what you’re looking for in bed sheets, it’s easier to assess which ones are for you so that you’re able to sleep a comfortable night’s sleep.
How to Decorate Candles for a Wedding
To organize a beautiful and interesting wedding, you need to pay attention to even the smallest details. Wedding candles play a special role in the wedding. This décor item is considered not only the decoration but also an important detail in many wedding ceremonies.
Some newlyweds prefer to make wedding candles with their own hands. Guests can also make candles, and then present them as a gift. Candles created by the mother of the bride or groom will be very symbolic. By the way, if you want, you can make a whole set for the wedding: wedding candles, champagne bottles and can be decorated in the same style.
What wedding ceremonies are used for candles?
As mentioned above, this is used in some wedding ceremonies. And most of all, this, of course, is a marriage. According to tradition, after the wedding, the candles remain near the newlyweds. You should wear them throughout life because it is believed that wedding candles are a symbol of the strength of marriage. The design of wedding candles should be quite modest.
Wedding candles are also used in ceremonies to light a family hearth. Candles for the family hearth should be decorated as elegantly as possible. After all, it is believed that the richer the model, the more successful the new family will be. Newlyweds should have an ordinary thick candle, which symbolizes the family hearth, and a thin candle separately for the bride and groom.
How to make wedding candles with your own hands?
Currently, there are two ways to make candles for a wedding.
Method 1. Ready candle + DIY décor
This option for making wedding candles is easier and more affordable. You need to buy a finished candle and make it yourself. You can decorate a candle with different decorative elements to your taste, but remember, all décor items should not be flammable, and they should be completely safe in relation to the fire.
Method 2. Making and decorating candles by hand.
This method of making candles for a wedding is more complicated, as it involves making the candles themselves with their own hands, followed by their own design.
A candle can be made using a special candle mass or wax. But you can buy ordinary white candles, melt them, giving them a shape of your choice. To make the candle melt faster, chop it well with a knife.
Colored candles. If you want to make colored candles, for example, a pale pink or light blue candle, then add some food coloring to the prepared candle crumbs, or grind wax coloring.
Aroma. To make the candle have a pleasant aroma, add a little aromatic oil to the raw material.
Wick. Fix can be purchased at the store, but can be used by candles that went to melt again. Cotton yarn is also suitable, but must first be completely soaked in wax. On the one hand, attach a weight to the wick, and on the other hand, tie it to the stop and install this small structure in the middle of the mold.
Shapes for candles. Now in stores there are many different shapes for candles.
But the best thing to get is a classic top hat. This shape will fit into any wedding decor.
You can make a shape for a candle with your own hands. To do this, get a suitable plastic bottle. In this case, a bottle of ketchup is used. Cut the neck and bottom of the bottle. Then, at equal intervals, make 8 cuts at the top of the work piece. Mark the triangles in each square. Cut along the marked lines. Now tie the resulting clove, insert a wick between these cloves and cover with tape.
Before pouring the wax, the mold should be well lubricated with vegetable oil. Decorative elements can be pre-attached to the sides of the form. If desired, cover the bottom of the form with beautiful sparks or shells.
Pour the paraffin into the mold after you have previously melted it in a water bath.
Now let the wax harden completely. In order for the candle to cool completely, it is enough to be at room temperature.
As a result, we get such a candle.
Making wedding candles with your own hands
You can decorate wedding candles with a variety of materials: rhinestones, bugles, beads, lace, ribbons, polymer clay, chains, porcelain, decorative paper and much more.
The most common way to decorate wedding candles is decoupage, modeling and painting. Love is the main theme, so they decorate the candle with hearts, cupids, drawings with wedding rings and doves.
Decor items are attached to the product with glue.
Carved candles
A carved candle is a true work of art. The technique for making carved candles is complex. But very exciting.
Step 1: The finished paraffin wax should be dipped into the liquid wax. During diving, it is important to constantly monitor the temperature of the liquid wax. If the wax is unsuitable, it will solidify quite quickly and it will not be easy to carve a pattern out of it.
Step 2: The process of carving a candle is probably the most interesting part. Engraving requires special tools. The master must think in advance about the idea of future candles. It must act quickly and accurately, as it requires only 20 minutes at this stage, because the paraffin hardens very quickly.
Step 3: To give the candles a beautiful shine and protect it from dust, the candle will be placed in a special acrylic varnish.
Flower candles decorate
This candle decoration option is ideal for weddings in shabby chic style or in a vintage style. All candles are decorated in soft pastel colors.
Candles can be decorated with rhinestone strands that are glued to the top of the satire ribbons. A candle symbolizing hearth, can be decorated with a large soft pink flower and a ribbon with rhinestone thread.
As you can see, it is not easy to make some wedding candles with your own hands, but this process makes us think about the aspect of the importance and integrity of marriage. Keep wedding candles throughout your life and always remember how important it is to maintain the warmth and comfort of the family for happy years.
Wedding candles allow you to create a romantic atmosphere in the celebration of the bride and groom. This traditional décor symbolizes family hearth. Making a wedding party with the help of candles will allow you to create a subtle and unique evening.
In addition, wedding candles can be easily decorated with your own hands. Newborns who decorate the festive hall with this attribute create an atmosphere of happiness and prosperity. The photo shows a sample pattern of candles for a wedding ceremony.
The choice of this wedding attribute should be taken seriously. Our ancestors had a belief: the brighter the flame of a lighted candle at a wedding, the easier it will be for a woman to cope with household chores. It was believed that if the bride could not light a candle, then she would be a weak lady.
To perform the transfer ceremony of this attribute the bride from the mother-in-law, a large and thick candle must be purchased. This ritual has a great symbolic significance, it symbolizes the warmth of the family, and therefore, it can be transmitted only with the help of a dimensional candle.
It is important to remember that the wax of a lighted candle melts and drips. This can lead to damage to the newlyweds’ elegant costumes. Therefore, you should choose stearic products.
Their main property is practicality. These wedding attributes need to be strong and reliable. You also need to choose reliable candlesticks. The product should be well fixed to the candlestick.
No need to buy scented candles for the wedding ceremony. Why? Indoors, where the festive ceremony will take place, the smell of these attributes will be mixed with the smell of food, drinks and perfumes of the guests. The impression of this mixture will be created unfavorable.
At weddings with these products, various competitions are held, they are used for rituals, as well as for the decoration of premises. This is why it is recommended to buy candles in different shapes and colors. For example, in order to use small and low candles. The newlyweds table should be decorated with small round products. This will create a romantic atmosphere.
It is not recommended to place thin and long candles on the tables: they impede good visibility and look ugly.
The candle flame should be bright. Let burn for as long as possible.
Each guest can be given a small round candle and invited to dance next to the newlyweds. This will create an atmosphere of mystery in the ceremony.
At the time of the wedding, the bride and groom should have the same candles. Usually, long and straight products that burn for a long time are used for this rite.
Sensing 2021
The scent of this new year seems to be lemongrass. It actually started a few days before the turn of the year – maybe as a way to pave the future with a bright, hopeful feeling. I mixed a custom cologne oil with lemongrass and ginger, and it smells so good. It feels like an arrow pointing the way ahead. Last year's scent was vetiver mixed with cardamom, which was very appropriate for a year that was so very inward-facing. It’s a soothing and comforting mix, one that made me feel like everything would be all right. Eventually.
The visual theme hasn’t quite resolved yet, but it’s feeling almost baroque, with curlicues and illuminations. If I had to hazard a guess, I’d say it looks like something out of the Art Nouveau tradition – an organic, entwined feel, with a color palette that wouldn’t be out of place in the great outdoors, but with comfort still in mind. Nothing challenging, but something intricate enough to get lost in contemplation of.
Aurally, it’s been a dichotomy between music that wouldn’t be out of place at a wedding in the ‘80s and soulful works of classical music for piano and/or cello. Always, I take refuge in my rain white noise track if processing actual music becomes Too Much, and that doesn’t look to be changing.
The flavor profile so far seems to be earthy and mellow – Pinot Noirs from the Willamette Valley, goat milk brie, mesquite-rubbed steaks. I’m sure the tastes will brighten up as the sun returns, but I feel that the earthiness will remain.
Soft combed cotton seems to be the textural theme so far. I’ve started crocheting, and cotton yarn is really the only yarn I can work with.cw
What kind of material makes the best reusable bags?
We've been asked what the best reusable bags are! Bulletin Bag features custom bags made from a wide variety of materials and fabrics. Every material has its own advantages and drawbacks, so the right reusable bags really in the audience's eyes, project manager! Although it is true that the manufacture and shipment of reusable bags has an impact on the environment, any reusable bag is more environmentally friendly than the alternative: single-use paper or plastic bags. High quality bags are always better than one for the climate. So, how do you choose the right reusable bag for your needs? Learn about your material choices in this guide to help you make your decision. You may also want to look at how to wash reusable bags. Often the best reusable shopping bags are those you don't have to waste extra time washing!
The COTTON bags come in a number of combinations. Bulletin Bag offers conventional cotton, organic cotton and recycled cotton bags. Organic Cotton Whalebags is cultivated without pesticides and is usually accredited in compliance with global standards. Recycled cotton consists of recycled organic and conventional cotton scrap (which would usually end up in a landfill) which is recycled or spun into new yarns. Traditional cotton processing includes raw, natural fibre, but needs more chemicals than any other crop. Notice that cotton comes in various weights, which are defined in ounces. Reusable Organic Cotton Bags are usually 10 to 12 ounces, but we do sell less expensive bags of between 5 and 8 ounces. Take sure to take note of the weight when comparing the bags. Cotton is often considered to be the material that makes the best reusable shopping bags because of its many advantages: Advantages:
• Biodegradable/Natural fibre plant • Renewable resources • Solid and durable; • Gentle, smooth and friendly to the touch; • Widely available in the USA and abroad; • Can be machine washed in cold water, like colours. We suggest air drying to minimise shrinkage and to maintain the longevity of any printing process. • Cotton is the perfect 'canvas' for logo printing on reusable bags. In addition to screen printing and full-color heat transfer printing, some custom cotton bags may also be printed in full bleed. Disadvantages: • Not resistant to moisture unless chemically treated • High water use crop • Traditional (non-organic) cotton accounts for 16% of pesticides in the world. • Heavy, cumbersome and costly to ship; •Like everything made from 100% cotton, the bags can shrink and wrinkle with a washing machine (to limit this, wash in cold water and air dry). HEMP grows well without pesticides or fertilisers and is tolerant of drought. Each acre produces three to six tonnes of dry fibre. Hemp fibres are one of the longest, strongest and most robust fibres on Earth and are many times stronger than cotton. Advantages: • Incredibly solid, resilient and rot-resistant • It can grow in poor soils with little water • Processed hemp is soft, smooth and easy to touch. • Most reusable hemp bags can be machine washed and dried. • Hemp becomes stronger over time and 'breaks in' beautifully when used regularly • Hemp can be mixed with other materials to produce highly attractive, high-end fabrics with a linen-like feel (hemp is typically blended with cotton or recycled PET) Disadvantages: • Currently, it cannot be manufactured in the US (hemp products in the western world are imported) • It can be costly • It can be grainy, but most of it is refined. Refined hemp uses a good amount of water. JUTE is a natural plant fibre that is often referred to as hessian or burlap. Advantages: • Natural renewable resources • The jute is biodegradable and compostable; • To be grown • Durable use • Grows in high rainfall areas which require little to no pesticides or irrigation. • Can be combined with other fabrics Disadvantages: • Not very resistant to moisture unless chemically treated or laminated • Grain texture • Printing limited to thick lines and bold objects
Khadi is the rich heritage and history messenger of Bengali culture strongly reminds us of the “Swadeshi Movement”. This Khadi or Khoddor cloth is directly hand made from the ancient time. The yarn is made from carpas cotton; later this yarn goes through hand-operated charka (spinning wheel) or tant to be turned into traditional cloth. Since the Indo-British period, Cumilla's khadi has been getting extra popularity. This region's flourishing khadi goods are cherishing the consciousness of Bengali culture, tradition for centuries. And before the partition of sub-continent countries, during 'Quit India' movement, Mahatma Gandhi's call for the boycott of industrial spun fabrics from England, this thick cloth's demand stretched at a skyscraper. Consequently, it became a supreme symbol of patriotism. After the independence of Bangladesh, though this heritage withered, the fashion houses like Aarong, Kay Kraft, Bishwo Rang have been highlighting this tradition with various ways in front of the khadi lovers for last 15 years as a Bengali fashion icon. Sailendra Nath Guha (known as khadibabu), Founder of Grameen Khadi and his son Bijon and Arun Guha, and the Khadi and Cottage Industries Association (KCIA) also played a momentous role. Diversity in design The new appearance of khadi has changed the notion of orthodox rough textures and thick clothing matter. Thin khadi gowns, skirts, tops, shirts, kurta, fatuya, saree, bed sheets have become trendy thanks to expert designing. Khadi clothes were made mostly white and off-white color prior but now colorful varieties are available. Khadi special corners are common in fashion houses. Fayez Hassan, Executive Designer of Aarong said, “To promote khadi among youths, we should produce attires by giving importance on their preference. There was a time when these garments ran in winter seasons only but now it is worn all over the year.” Pradip Kumar Raha, Proprietor of Cumilla Khadighar said, “Usually traditionally spun khadi clothes were very heavy once. Now refined clothes are produced. The young generation has embraced khadi warmly, and some even researching on it. Khadi is a global product as Bengali communities around the world affectionately took this beloved product.” Khadi traders informed that every yard of khadi hand-made spun fabric is valued on average Tk. 200 although it depends on the fluctuation of cotton prices. Besides, machine-made fabrics cost Tk. 140 per yard. Branding of Khadi In 2004, the khadi festival was organized by one of the country's leading fashion house, Kay-Kraft. But it was not conceivable for them to organize regularly due to many reasons. Also at various times khadi weaving was showcased named Boyon-Sangeet by Anjon's and Nitya Upahar. The 2009 Boyon-Sangeet showcase was dedicated to the Tanti (weaving) community, presented them with crests and certificates as accreditation. In 2015, the Fashion Design Council of Bangladesh (FDCB) has started officially the 'Khadi Festival' to uphold this famous heritage in collaboration with the Cultural Ministry. The name is given 'Khadi: Future Fabric Show' with tagline #GOKHADI. This festival has attracted a lot of foreign and local designers from the beginning. Maheen Khan, Fashion Designer and Founder President of FDCB said, “Muslin, Jamdani, Khadi, Nakshi Kantha- these names restore a connection to our very own royal past. Khadi textile has the lowest carbon footprint; it can help mitigate global warming to a certain extent. Weaving the Khadi requires no electricity or burning of fossil fuels. In today’s age, we are most concerned with long term sustainability, eco-friendliness, and green product. I believe Khadi is the prime solution to concerns related to global warming.” “With the help from the government, private, corporate initiatives and continuous efforts of the FDCB, Khadi is slowly but indisputably reviving its lost heritage,” Maheen Khan added. Khadi is getting more popular among young people Although the new generation doesn't know more about this heritage cloth, nowadays due to proper promotion, their keen interest in khadi is increasing. The reason Khadi is gaining popularity and extensive acceptance is that it’s availability in the diversity of design concepts. Customers get a wide range of colors to choose from. It is no more fabric of the serious-looking, aged people or government officials. The younger generation working in the fashion and corporate sector find it cool and wear it with pride. Khadi is a versatile fabric, has the magical ability to stay cool in summer and warm in winter. Mixed khadi requires less care, paralleled to pure khadi. Challenges and way outs Despite the widespread demand, this potential market is not being utilized due to the lack of fair value of its labor, scarcity of raw materials, artisan crisis, the higher price of cotton, lack of modern technology, financial supports, shut-down handloom factories, efficient managerial skills, proper marketing, and promotion etc. Another root cause of backwardness is the involvement of the grassroots khadi workers in the RMG industry. For these reasons, Khadi of Cumilla is losing her heritage. Khadi Shilpa (industry) saw the golden time in the pre-independence period. After the liberation war, the khadi industry witnessed a traumatized reality. According to traders, strong association, forming strong channel of distribution, government’s special consideration, proper policy framework, exhibition, capturing untapped markets, media coverage can help this cottage industry to revive yet again. Khadipara artisan could see the face of light and business would become more resilient if khadi accesses in the international market widely. Besides, the government's export diversification project named 'one district, one commodity' will be able to play a substantial role to expand the khadi industry. India and Pakistan are other leading sourcing hubs for khadi. To promote and reach to apex, the Indian government has decided to harness solar energy to power charkas (spinning wheels) across the country to boost the production by 20 times. The Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed the package loan agreement of $150 million for the Khadi Reform and Development Program (KRDP). In addition, Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has urged to Indian Railways for running a special train named 'Khadi Express' to promote this industry on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary. The Bangladeshi government has also taken steps to provide financial aids by identifying tant villages. There are over 0.88 million handloom workers included khadi, of them about 0.41 million are female while 0.47 million are male, according to the Planning Commission. Recently the government has launched a handloom census across the country spending of Tk 80 million to revive the local khadi industry. Besides, the process to get Geographic Indication (GI) registration of Bangladeshi product - Cumilla's textile ‘Khadi’ and ‘Roshmalai’ has been started after achieving GI of jamdani saree. If we get, then this could bring a new milestone to this sector. Conclusion Khadi is the signature fabric of sub-continental countries. According to traditional business analysts, right now, what Bangladesh government is doing to revitalize khadi, ought to need further initiatives. If this attempt continues accurately it is undoubtedly concluded that khadi has a glittering future with parallels like other successful traditional sectors like Tangail saree and Jamdani. Cutie Reviews: Kawaii Box Oct 19
I have complex feelings today, on one hand I’m excited because the brand new Cooking Mama will be arriving. On the other, my mom had to go to the hospital again and I’m worried about her.
So basically... you could say I chose to do this now to bide time. Besides playing Animal Crossing and some heavy duty Spring cleaning.
Word of the month: Majyo/Majo- Witch
Event of the Month (besides Halloween): Taiku no Hi/Health and Sports Day. Which takes place October 14, the day before my birthday x3
“Everything you need to be a kawaii standout at a spooky party!“
Unicorn Cosmetics Bag
Our first item is this exclusive to Kawaii Box (or you can check their online shop Blippo.com) cosmetic bag, featuring the pastel color variant of the Kawaii Box print and a big, cute unicorn! It has a nice pink zipper on top and leather strap for easier carrying, and the inside has bright pink crinkly fabric lining; it feels like the fabric you use to avoid water damage.
The bag is of a decent size, so it would be perfect for carrying around some necessities to the store, in another bag or pack, or even if you just want to use it to help organize something in the home.
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I’m always looking for these in the boxes, because I tend to accumulate stuff from all of them and rather than keep every box I get, I can use these for the similar or smaller items I don’t have another place to put. Overall it’s very nicely made, and I really like it, I’m glad to see a variety of brand exclusive items in the box.
Koala’s March & Umaibo (not pictured)
I think we’ve all seen Koala’s March by now, right? I won’t be getting too into topic about these, but basically if you’re unfamiliar with them, they are little koala-shaped biscuits/cookies with Koala drawn on them and a thick, chocolate filling. They’re very yummy, and over the years there has even been a few different flavors, like strawberry. They each also come with a little Koala drawing you can collect on the top and bottom flaps. Koala’s March is also known for its benefits to the real Koala of the world :3 and it’s one of those few Japanese snacks you can easily find outside of Asian territories.
For Halloween, we have the basic chocolate. But these ones feature adorable Halloween-themed designs. You can also cut around the bottom to use it as a cup for holding things.
I had every intention of taking pictures of the various biscuits/cookies, but they were kind of smashed up and broken apart. Sometimes snacks just can’t handle travel very well, but I would highly recommend trying these if you never did. They’re very yummy.
- - - -
I’m sorry guys, but the umaibo that came with this months box was annihilated when I got to it. It would have been a messy picture and I didn’t think it was worth including. I don’t have much to say on it because I’ve reviewed several of the same Umaibo and this one was no different, because... it was...
CORN POTTAGE
If you’ve been reading my blog, you’ll know that its my MOST FAVORITE UMAIBO EVER. If you haven’t then now you do :P it’s so delicious~
Hattifattener Plushie
This silly looking creature is from the series Moomin, and it has come to celebrate Halloween with you. This is a 100% polyester made plush thickly filled with cotton. The hands are made from very soft fabric, and it has a long silver ball-chain.
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
As simple as this is, I couldn’t think of something more ideal for Halloween than a ghost-like being such as this. I don’t really know anything about the Hattifattener, but it’s pretty cute looking. It’s very soft and plush, and while it has little detail, they are very clean and neat.
Halloween Party Stickers
Whether you’re attending or throwing a Halloween Party, journaling, drawing a picture for the month, or just collecting stickers. These ones are the perfect little touch of spooky cute ♥
For this box, we could get a couple variations of sticker sheets; like cute animals dressed up, ghosts, or this mix of Halloween spirits and icons like I got; such as Jack-o-Lanterns, bats, and some Japanese spirits like the Kappa, the umbrella ghost or long necked lady; there’s even a few Non-Halloween creatures, like a mermaid and genie. The stickers are also puffy, giving them that 3D-ish look.
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I love holiday-themed stickers x3 they’re always really fun to look back. As much as I don’t like repetitive designs on sticker sheets though, I’m not that bothered by it on this one because the repetitive ones are recolored or a bit different in style, rather than being the exact same printing repeat.
Ghost Heart Pin
Kawaii Box not only gave us one exclusive item, but two this month :D This is a cute accessory you could wear on person or attach it to a purse or something else if you really wanted to. I’m not sure if you can tell in this pic, but the pin is actually pretty big, about the size of my fist. It also seems to be of really good quality, and has a nice, solid response when you tap or hit it.
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I really got into collecting pins the past few years, so I’m excited to add another one to my collection.
Cat Teru Teru Bozu Pen
Teru Teru Bozu are ghostly looking objects one can make in order to keep away bad, rainy weather. So for this month, we have a kitty one who has come to make sure Halloween is at its best this year; unless you’re like me and keep it in the box, because it was pretty chilly and rainy this year.
The pen is an extremely basic clear tube with a black ink fine-tip. The kitty TTB can be sat aside, or you can put it on the pen butt so that it can keep you company while you write.
♥ ♥ ♥
As cute as the kitty is, I find the rest of the pen to be extremely repressed/plain/boring. But it works perfectly well, so it’s not like I wont use it, it’s just not in my top 10 list.
Shine Rainbow Bookmark
Our next item is this really pretty bookmark ♥ by Tree In Art, these came in various designs and colors and feature shiny, colorful flakes in various shapes; such as a star-themed one shown in the booklet, or this one that I got, featuring unicorns, sakura flower, flowers/snowflakes, and dots. There is also a small silk ribbon tied through the top for an additional touch.
I never heard of the brand TIA until I started seeing it in this box, and since then I have come to really like it! They have a variety of items as I’m learning, in all sorts of designs, such as casual fat kitties and narwhals, floral, and magical elements like mermaids and unicorns.
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I also really like reading, and for the past few years I’ve been obsessed with this yarn bookworm I got from a craft store, but its eyes have gone missing and I’m kinda tired of it, so this will be a lovely change of pace~
Glitter Star Hair Clip
I was the most excited about this item, so I’m very happy I can finally begin wearing it! These came in a few variations, each consisting of a clip covered in shiny deco flakes, and adorned by a large clear star filled with shiny star flakes and some others; such as the metallic shells mine has ♥
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I’m completely in love with this~ It’s so pretty, and it’s not too decorative that it might look strange to wear, it’s just enough. The quality of the clip is also really good, and I love hearing the flakes inside shake around as I move my head or tap it.
It also really goes with my nails right now :3 its a win-win.
Colorful Scratch Notepad
This is our last item of the month, a fun little scratchpad. If you never seen these before, they are basically colorful, smooth pieces of paper or card stock covered in black material that you “scratch“ off to reveal your image in the color of the sheet.
This specific set comes with multiple pieces of rainbow, along with one gold sheet, and one silver.
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
These are a really fun way to pass time if you like to draw or doodle. It’s also very relaxing, and this specific set is a dream because of how soft and easy it is to draw on the black stuff- the only downside is that because it’s not the usual smooth, gummy-ish paint-like substance that is really easy to remove, this one kinda smears like pencil would, so you might need to clean your hands after using it. I also wish we got an even amount of each color sheet.
♥ Cutie Ranking ♥
Content - 5 out of 5. I love everything, it’s so much fun! A couple of them might have been basic or plain looking, but they work fine/have good quality.
Theme - 4.5 out of 5. They were really close to getting a perfect score this time, but I felt like a couple of items didn’t really fit the spirit of the Halloween theme.
Total Rank: 9 out of 10 Cuties. I really liked this box, it especially excelled in comparison to the past few boxes this month and I enjoyed it. I’m in love with quite a few of the items, and I can’t wait to use them in full now!
♥Cutie Scale ♥
1. Star Clip - I’m going to wear this a lot :D I love it love it love it!
2. Bookmark - It’s so shiny and pretty to look at~ I adore it~
3. Unicorn Cosmetics Bag - I probably would have picked this as my top favorite item, if not for the fact I liked 2 more way more.
4. Ghost Pin - It’s pastel color scheme and heart shape are kawaii x3
5. Scratch Notepad - It’s very fun, I really like these. I actually own a couple of them, but none with pretty metallic sheets.
6. Halloween Stickers - They’re cute, even moreso than the ghost stickers we got last year~
7. Cat Teru Teru Bozu Pen - it’s cute, but also on the plain side. I really like the super-decorative pens more.
8. Hattifattener Plush - It’s plain looking but still kinda cute.
9. Umaibo - This almost felt painful to do because its so delicious, but with how messed up it was out of the package -edible or not- I didn’t feel like it earned a goo score.
10. Koala’s March - As yummy and cute as they are, once they’re gone they are gone you know?
With Valentine’s Day approaching, it’s a good time to make some gifts for those you love, whether they are family, friends, or simply an acquaintance that you’d like to show some love or appreciation.
There’s something here for everyone to try, no matter what your age, skill level, or craft choice.
NO SEW
The No Sew Fridge Magnets are as easy as pie to make, and are a functional gift that whoever receives them, will be able to see them everyday {on their fridge ;) } and remember you !
Another idea for the ears.
I made the one ear purposely flop over by placing a drop of glue near the base and holding the ‘flop’ until glue held properly.
The pink crosses mark the areas to place the glue.
What you will need:
Pom-Poms (I got a huge bag of mixed colors and sizes on a 50% off sale at Hobby Lobby)
Felt – various colors (Hobby Lobby always has excellent price specials and a wonderful variety, both in colors and designs)
Googly eyes (I got mine at Joann’s and there was quite a variety in sizes … I used the smallest size for this project)
Craft magnets (The magnets I used for this project, I got at Joann’s, but they are widely available – Amazon, Michaels, Walmart etc. – and a wide variety too.)
Craft Glue (I used Beacon Felt Glue – also at Hobby Lobby). This is truly perfect for this kind of project, as it glues extremely well, and dries clear, and thoroughly within 3 – 4 hours, but the project can be handled after 1 hour.
Scissors
A few Wonder Clips, Bulldog Clips, or pegs
What to do:
Select pom-poms: one large, one small, and one slightly-larger-than-small
Cut the feet and ear pieces out of desired colors felt (patterns here).
Put a small amount of glue at the bottom of each ear piece (as indicated on the pattern), press the piece closed, and clip/peg in place until ready to be used.
Glue the feet piece to the large pom-pom.
Glue the middle sized pom-pom onto the large pom-pom, right next to the felt piece (thus making this the tail).
Glue the small pom-pom onto the middle of the large pom-pom, on the opposite side of the tail (thus making the small pom-pom, the nose). It would be advisable to let the project rest for about 10 -15 minutes, allowing the glue to set enough for the other parts to be added.
Front view which shows the ears lined with a color matching his nose!
Rear view which shows the placing of the tail and the ears.
Place a small amount of glue on the bottom of each ear piece and place onto the large pom-pom. Good placing would be either right next to each other on the top of the ‘head’, or spread further apart …. almost on the sides of the ‘head’.
Open the fur of the pom-pom where each eye is to be placed so that they can be placed closer to the ‘heart’ of the pom-pom (this makes for a more secure placing).
Glue the magnet onto the bottom (the feet piece) of the fluffy creature, and allow to dry thoroughly (overnight would be best) before placing the fridge magnet onto the fridge.
Placing of the ‘feet’ piece, the tail, and the magnet.
KNITTING
Something Special Gift Bags
Perhaps you’ve already got a gift and are looking to add Something Special to personalize the gift. A lovely idea would be a hand made knitted gift bag (which is a gift in itself!).
I found this pattern very simple, and quick, and I just LOVE the Kitchener grafting stitch … it makes for a super neat finishing, although it’s not essential to use this method. This pattern is from the Balls to the Walls Knits: Zürich Collection. This is a lovely site with many wonderful ideas and patterns! Give them a try!
I used “I Love This Yarn” super soft yarn from Hobby Lobby in red and white, and size 3,75mm / Size 5 double pointed knitting needles and was very happy with the result.
Three versions of the open hole pattern (size small) Something Special gift bags. I made icords (instruction video below) for the pull strings, as well as a simple twisted yarn pull string.
Patterns
Sizes: Small (Medium; Large) (Finished dimensions roughly as follows, with a note that the closed hole pattern will be slightly narrower than the open hole pattern in all sizes. That being said, the small is roughly 3.5″ wide x 4.75″ tall, the medium 4.75″ x 6.25″, and the large 6″ x 7.75″) Yarn: Maddison Bio Baby (100% Organic Cotton; 197 yards [180 meters]/50 grams); #06 Purple – one skein; #03 Tan – one skein, & #01 White – one skein Needles: One set of double pointed needles (dpns) in size US 4 Notions: Tapestry needle Gauge: 26 stitches = 4 inches Cast on 48 (64; 80) stitches in whichever color you’d like to use for the body of the bag and then divide between 3 or 4 dpns (whichever you prefer) as evenly as possible while still maintaining groups of 8 stitches. Join in round. Then we’ll work the following edging rows, which are the same for all sizes: Edging Rows 1 – 4: * k2, p2; rep from * Edging Row 5: knit Edging Row 6: * k2, k2tog, (yo) twice, ssk, k2 * Edging Row 7: * k3, (k1, p1) in double yo, k3 * Edging Rows 8 & 9: knit Knit edging rows 1 – 9. Then we’ll begin our main pattern, which, as you can see from the pictures, you can do with an open-hole or a closed-hole design. The pattern rows are the same for all sizes, and I’m giving the open-hole pattern first.
Open-hole Pattern:
Row 1: * k1, yo, ssk, k2tog, yo, k3 * Row 2: knit Row 3: * k2, yo, ssk, k4 * Row 4: knit Row 5: * k3, yo, ssk, k2tog, yo, k1 * Row 6: knit Row 7: * k4, k2tog, yo, k2 * Row 8: knit
Closed-hole Pattern:
Row 1: * k1, m1r, ssk, k2tog, m1l, k3 * Row 2: knit Row 3: * k2, m1r, ssk, k4 * Row 4: knit Row 5: * k3, m1r, ssk, k2tog, m1l, k1 * Row 6: knit Row 7: * k4, k2tog, m1l, k2 * Row 8: knit Knit rows 1 – 8 of whichever pattern you like until piece measures roughly 4.5″ (6″; 7.5″) and you’ve just finished row 4 or row 8 of the pattern. Divide remaining stitches evenly between two double pointed needles and graft together using the Kitchener stitch. To help you out, I’ve even posted a video of the technique below! (Also note that you don’t have to graft; you could use a three-needle bind off or just bind off and seam the bottom, if you’d prefer.)
CROCHETING
Petals to Picots website has stacks of awesome patterns, including this little heart basket. Add some sweets for your sweet, and Ta-da! you have a lovely gift!
Hugs and Kisses Heart Crochet Basket
I used a 3.25mm (D) hook and “I Love This Yarn” sport weight.
Size is approximately 2.5″ x 2.5″ and 1″ high.
Ideal for small candies like Hershey Kisses!
Here’s what you need:
worsted weight yarn
H hook
tapestry needle
