I’m so happy?????
For the curious:
Pink: one and a half drops of some pink that came in a Wilton’s tropical colors dye kit??? (To get “half” drop I put a drop in a cup, filled it with water then dumped half the water.
Orange: smallish amount of Wilton’s creamy peach. Used more dye for this than most of the others because that’s already intended to be a paler color.
Yellow: small amount of lemon yellow, still probably more dye than the other four colors because again yellow is not a very saturated color. On the other hand I only put in about 2/3 of the glass of colored water so I probably could have done slightly less.
Green: small amount of kelly green. For this one I barely bared dipped the tines of a fork in the dye, but I think I put two or three layers of this before I was happy with the color.
Blue: mix of royal blue and cornflower blue, in tiny tiny amounts. The cornflower blue seemed like it wasn’t bright enough in hue to match the other colors so i added the royal blue, but this might have been a mild mistake? It looks fine but I probably should have just done tiny amounts of royal blue. Oh well. Honestly that might have been too bright next to the violet.
Purple: tiny amount violet— as you would expect from me at this point lol.
Assume all dye colors are Wilton’s icing gel (except the pink!)
By tiny amounts I mean except for the pink I stuck the tines of a fork into the bottle and then dissolved that in water. Obviously this is not a real measurement but if you want to do pastels the best thing to remember is you can always add more dye so go super minimal to start.
(ALSO-- my god they dried SO much faster with the spin dryer, not really surprising but it still makes me happy.)
#time to dye#pastel rainbow#dyeing yarn#this yarn is a delightful aplaca/wool blend but I bought it on clearance#and it’s discontinued#so I can’t link#this yarn definitely bloomed during the dyeing process so now#do I treat the other six skeins with hot water?#or do we think it doesn’t matter because it’ll block out anyway?#I’m thinking I should probably treat the other yarn???#unlike some yarn it is ‘finished’ in its bare state#alpaca just has a tendency to bloom
