it is with great sorrow that i admit i am in fact "that guy" when it comes to getting annoyed about how people play open-world RPGs.
granted, i'm too polite to actually SAY anything to people playing a game for the first time, but it does kill me a tiny bit inside to see someone, say, claim to be a "loot goblin" and then proceed to a) leave most loot behind and b) never upgrade carrying capacity, which means they have to leave most loot behind.
and then later wonder why they're always short on raw materials for crafting.
also when people know you can upgrade equipment but instead just use the same stuff from the beginning of the game, in its basic state, and wonder why they get one-shot killed and run out of ammo all the time.
and i get it. you're just playing to have fun, and i would never want to ruin someone's good time by giving unsolicited advice.
but i am a very methodical person when it comes to gaming, and while i don't fuck with that minmaxxing shit or however you spell it, i do immediately try to bulk up my defense and firepower when i start a game like fallout 4, and i also immediately upgrade my carrying capacity as much as possible to reduce trips back to home base.
also because i too am a loot goblin, i upgraded my lockpicking and hacking skills as soon as i possibly could so i wouldn't have to leave good loot behind. (which, incidentally, is also a good way to level up fast in fallout 4, as you get EXP every time you hack or pick a lock).
btw, does VATS actually work in fallout 4? because it seems like folks i see using it do worse than when manually targeting and shooting. is it something you just have to upgrade before it becomes usable, or can i do without? critical hits are fun, but i'd rather just headshot enemies on my own.
anyway yeah i am having to resist giving tips and tricks to people playing games like fallout 4 for the first time, even though i myself am also playing them for the first time. and i feel kinda bad about getting annoyed, but i guess at least i'm not being a dick to their face? idk. i'll just have to go back to my playthrough where i meticulously strip each area and enemy of usable items and scrap all the extra armor and weapons at every crafting bench to reduce weight lmao. i have like 105 hours in the game and i haven't even gone to the glowing sea yet.
