I swear that most university bureaucracies only get away with being as slow and awful and migraine-inducing as they do because so much of the student body have no experience outside of academia and have no concept that the way they often get treated would be unconscionable in any other kind of professional environment. As someone who is almost 30 and has been in the professional world a decent amount of time, I sometimes really wish my fellow students would stand up for themselves so I don't constantly feel like I'm in a parallel universe where everyone is just okay with this kind of treatment.

(This is not a comment on [most] university staff who I know are also victims of the same problems.)

#this week i got overcharged SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS on my tuition and my repeated attempts to address it #are apparently going straight into a black hole #and i mention it and people are like 'lmao yeah the bursar so incompetent!!!'#like im sorry but if i dealt with a billing error of that magnitude in any other environment #the person who made it would be (rightfully) bending over backwards to apologize and make things right #meanwhile an actual 'solution' ive been proposed is just pay it and we'll refund you when we work it out
