Ugh completely agree with you! Forget Miquella the intelligent brilliant inventor of spells, chemo therapy for soul rot, a set of sick prosthesis including replacement skin (possibly created using his own blood), creator of a God Tree Paradise watered by his own blood, creator of a kickass sword, guy connected with Eclipse rituals, the guy who made the freaking Walking Mausoleums, who abandoned the religion he was raised in and the ideology the world revolved around, the fact his other main goal is throwing out the influence of Outer Gods… nope! See the most important part of his character is having level 100 charisma and actually saying please and thank you thus controlling hundreds.
Imo one of the worst things about the DLC is just how narratively boring and uninteresting it is. In a world that ranges from evil to dark shades of morally grey, the most interesting character is the one that actually cares and has a plan to help the downtrodden. Obviously nuance and grey elements (Miquella struggling with his curse and his natural allure, the use of actual charm etc.) are good, but the way they were utilised they sort of make Miquella the same as everyone else. Even outright corrupted Miquella would’ve been more interesting. Same with Leda, a subversion of the “honourable knight in shining armour” isn’t that striking if all the other knights are less than interesting. Which makes me think this wasn’t GRRM’s intention, despite the infamy George understands you need to have good and bad as well (in a kingdom full of less than stellar knights, one of the most interesting knights is one that’s actually the knightly ideal, and she isn’t even a true knight). I really think the most interesting and striking twist Fromsoft could’ve given us was an ending and character that was just mostly good.
I’ve enjoyed looking at your takes, as well as old theories and predictions (masochism) haha, hope we can all spiritually recover from this soon enough.
Listen I'm not against morally grey Miquella. One of my favorite theories before the DLC came out was that Miquella had sacrificed sorcerers to make Graven Masses in order to study the Primeval Current. I am not against him doing dubious shit, in fact it makes his character more interesting lol
The biggest most nauseating problem of the DLC for me is the fact that it completely disregards and ignores everything else that Miquella has done in favor of going full tilt into his charm powers. And even then I am not against his bewitching powers! I like how they are being portrayed in the DLC and it's interesting how they are more calming in nature rather than straight brainwashing.
But still.
It legitimately feels like Fromsoft forgot nearly everything about Miquellas lore when concocting Miquella the Kind. Miquella the Unalloyed no longer exists and that's what really irritates me.
And again, the biggest elephant in the room when it comes to the assassination of Miquella the Unalloyed's character is the shoehorning of Radahn into Miquella's narrative. I could write an entire fucking essay about how there is absolutely no basegame evidence regarding Miquellas "crush🤮" on Radahn, how it is a blatant and lazy retcon, and how Radahns inclusion in the DLC made things just fucking awful for everyones lore, and hell I probably will later, but for now:
Y'know how there are certain female characters who's entire story and character revolves around a man and it reduces them to a side character?
yeah...
yeah.......
