Hi! Hope this finds you well. Saw the request and wanted to ask for a Yandere Sylus with player reader. Like Sylus knows Mc is a player and he is a game character. When mc was gone for too long, Sylus gets impatient.
If you can do it, of course. If no, ignore this. Wish you writing ideas and inspiration
Hi! Hope you're well too, anon! Sorry for the long wait on this one, got really stuck with it and wanted to make sure I did it justice-- it was such a cool idea! (Also I know L&D has the microphone feature but I wanted to have fun with the limited communication of the player here, so no it doesn't, actually!! đ„°)
Fourth Wall

Your phone lights up with a notification.
Sylus: Are you in a good mood, sweetie? The weatherâs nice, so letâs go out.
It makes you smile, even though youâve seen it before. You havenât played Love and Deepspace for two weeks or so, and youâre already thinking about how many dailies youâve missedâ more specifically, how many diamonds youâll be short of going into the next event. You had a couple thousand saved, you think? Itâs probably fine.
The truth is, you donât really have time for it these days. Escaping reality with fiction is fun, but itâs just that: make believe. Realityâs still waiting for you on the other side, and recently? All that escaping has finally caught up to you. You have a real life. Responsibilities. Yay!
But you are in a good mood, and the weather is nice, so youâll log in for old timeâs sake. Your finger hovers over the app, but something makes you hesitate. Youâve got some emails you should probably get back to, first. Ohâ and werenât you supposed to call your friend, too?
Another notification:
Sylus: Take your time, kitten.
A new one? Itâs just text on a screen, but youâre reading itâ Sylusâs voice in your headâand you just know itâs dripping sarcasm. Before you have any time to dwell on it, your phone lights up with more notifications.
Sylus: Iâm going to count to three.
Cute. Heâs not actually going toâ
Sylus: OneâŠ
Oh.
Sylus: TwoâŠ
Really?
Sylus: Three.
Ok.
You tap on the app, weirdly motivated by the time pressure given that itâs coming from a man who doesnât actually exist. He smirks at you knowingly from the kindled moment youâd set as the loading screen, his crimson eyes playful. Youâre not particularly patient either, so your fingers drum along the surface of your desk as you wait, your gaze caught between his and the slowly moving loading bar.
Come on⊠come on⊠It finally loads, and you enter the game with another apathetic tap. Sylus stands, waitingâ a dark figure framed by the otherwise light and dreamy aesthetics of the Destiny CafĂ©. You smile to yourself; itâs just gone lunch, and you half expected to find him sprawled in the usual armchair, fast asleep.
He crosses his arms. âThe countdown worked, huh? What are youâ five?â
You scoff and give his head a flick. He chuckles, running a hand through his hair as though youâd struck him hard enough to ruffle it. Itâs kind of cool that you get some unique dialogue when youâve not logged in for a while, although⊠have you missed an update or something? The animation feels smoother. More lifelike, now you think about it.
Sylus stares back at you, his lips playing into a subtle smile. His arms are crossed again and he tilts his head like heâs enjoying your scrutiny. âSomething wrong, sweetie?â he asks.
Not really. You zoom in with a practiced sweep of your fingers so you can get a better look at him. His eyes flit downwards, over youâ equally shamelessâ and then heâs meeting your gaze as he steps forward, closing the distance. He canât see you, but you still canât bring yourself to look away from him, and youâre not really thinking about the animation anymore.
He lifts a finger to poke at the screen, as if heâs caught you daydreaming and wants you back. You poke him, too: a softer, more affectionate boop on the nose. You canât help laughing to yourself as his face screws up beneath the touch. This game is getting a little too real.
With a sigh, you zoom out so you can set about collecting your daily log-in rewards. Sylus seems fineâ standing idly by as your attention drifts about elsewhere. He knows the drill. He can wait. Speaking of waiting⊠itâs also been a while since youâve seen the other guys, and youâre struck by a pang of nostalgic fondness. You might as well say hi while youâre here.
You hit the button to change who you want to meet in the café.
It doesnât do anything.
Weird. You hit it again. Then againâ no change.
Sylus is holding his chin as he regards where your finger aimlessly meets the screen. Itâs like heâs looking at⊠the button? âOh dear,â he sympathises, âthat feature appears to have stopped working.â
You donât really hear him, honestly. Youâve never had a bug like this, and youâre determined to overcome it with sheer, stubborn persistence. Is it your phone? You test the theory by jabbing Sylusâs chest, and he glances down, apparently feeling it. You try the button again. Then six more times.
Sylus wanders closer to you. âYouâre hurting my feelings, sweetie. Am I not enough for you?â
Ok but why isnât this working? Youâre still trying the button; your hope has turned to frenzied disbelief.
âStop.â
A single syllable, concise as a punch and just as effective. You do stop.
Sylusâs voice is lower. Darker. âGood,â he praises, but he doesnât sound happy. âSomeoneâs gotten bolder in their absence, it would seem. I do hope you havenât forgotten to whom you belong, kitten. Althoughââ his smile is different than beforeâ âIâd be more than happy to provide a⊠reminder.â
Itâs an innocuous word but not the way he says it. Threats are just intimate promises and he toys with the fact like a crow enamoured by something that catches the light. Heâs not going to grow tired of it for a long, long time.
âDonât look at me like that,â he says, sensing you gawping. âDid you really think I wouldnât figure it out? What all⊠this is?â He indicates the space around him with a wave of his hand. âQuite frankly, Iâm surprised the others still havenât grasped it.â He reconsiders. Smirks. âI misspokeâ Iâm not surprised.â
Does he mean the game? The other LIs? Â
âHonestly, kitten,â he continues with a tut and a shake of his head, âyouâve been far from a gracious host. Iâm not a plaything, you know. WellâŠâ Heâs showing teeth with a sneer. âNot the sort you can throw away, anyhow.â
God, are you really being scolded by a video game character for having other responsibilities? The worst part is that you actually feel bad. You do care about him. You wish you could tell him you care about him.
âAre you even listening?â he sighs.
Shit. Yeah. You canât say anything he would hearâ as far as you knowâ so you give his hand a poke. He casts his gaze downwards, stretches his fingers with a contemplative flex, then raises his hand so it can be nursed by the other. Is he protecting it from you? Or is he protecting you from it?
âIf weâre to keep playing this game of ours, I think it only fair we lay down some rules,â he states. âFirstlyââ because it isnât up for debateâ âyou will come here every day, just like you used to. I have nothing to do, you see, and if you leave me to my own devices I might just have to find a way into that captivating little world of yours. So I can⊠investigate whatâs keeping you from me.â
Investigate. Another innocuous word he wields like a weapon.
âSecondly,â he continues, nodding towards the broken button on your user interface, âyou had better stop seeing the others. Ignorance is bliss, after all, and we wouldnât want to worry about them connecting any dots, now would we? BesidesâŠâ He approaches you again, leaning in close. âI donât share whatâs mine.â
Your breath is caught in your throat and youâre so glad you donât need to speak. You donât think you could; if you tried to get words out theyâd be unintelligible.
âSo,â Sylus drawls, filling your silence, âhow about it? Still want to play?â
This time it is a question, but only because he knows your answer. Youâre struck by a flash of inspiration, and you communicate in one of the few ways you canâ navigating the in-game menus until you can get your message across.
Thereâs a ping. Sylus retrieves his phone from his pocket, and after a moment of scrolling, he smiles. You canât see his screen, but you know what heâs looking at: a grumpy crow with an animated bead of sweat and a dispassionate gaze to go with it. That it? it asks.
He still looks far too smug, so you beckon him over with a relax time interaction, watching your characterâs hand outstretch on your behalf. He steps forward, linking his fingers with yours, and this animation you know. You tug him closer, except⊠he doesnât budge. Â
His eyes are fixed to where your hands are linked, and he runs a thumb over your skin as though heâs savouring the touch.
Did they change the animation?
âOh, sweetie,â he sympathises with a click of his tongue. He looks up at youâ holds your gaze as he presses a deliberately slow kiss to your wrist. âThis is going to be fun.â

summary: your friendship with Rudy began naturally and fluidly, but when his girlfriend's jealousy begins to interfere, tensions arise
warnings: nothing (?)
word counter: 5049
author's note: english is not my first language, this is fiction, don't take it seriously
From the moment you stepped onto the Outer Banks set, you felt that unmistakable energy of a team completely in sync. But even though everything seemed to click, it was Rudy Pankow who you instantly connected with. It wasnât something you could planâit just happened naturally.
Your role wasnât easy. Playing Isabella Cameron, the middle Cameron sibling, meant bringing depth, charisma, and a hint of rebellion that contrasted with Sarah and Rafe but still shared a certain sensitivity with Wheezie. Even though Isabella wasnât a Pogue like JJ, her connection with him promised to be one of the seasonâs most interesting twists.
On your first day on set, the nerves were real. This wasnât your first acting gig, but something about joining a cast with such strong chemistry was intimidating. Rudy was one of the first to approach you.
âNew Cameron?â he asked, with that grin of his that always seemed ready to crack a joke.
âThe one and only,â you replied, trying to hide your nerves.
He burst out laughing.
âI like it. Iâm Rudy, but I guess from now on weâre calling each other JJ and Isabella.â
The conversation flowed like youâd known each other forever. From that moment, it became almost a tradition for the two of you to find each other between takes to talk about scripts, crack jokes, or improvise ridiculous lines just to make the rest of the cast laugh.
One afternoon, during a scene where Isabella and JJ were supposed to argue about something involving Sarah, the directors decided to let you two improvise a bit to explore your characters' dynamic. It was a mess⊠in the best way possible. Your quick comebacks and Rudyâs ability to keep up with sarcastic remarks had everyone on set laughing. After calling cut, Jonas Pate, one of the showâs creators, came over.
âYou two have something special. I think weâre gonna lean into that.â
It wasnât until weeks later that you understood what he meant. In one of the season two episodes, Isabella and JJ would share an unexpected kissâa moment that would completely shift their dynamic.
âA kiss?â you asked, stunned after reading the script.
Rudy shot you a playful look.
âWhat? Not excited? Iâm a great kisser.â
âUh-huh, sure.â Your sarcastic tone made him laugh, like always.
Filming that scene was⊠interesting. Even though you got along great off-camera, you couldnât help feeling a little nervous. But Rudy, ever the charmer, made sure to ease your nerves before the take.
âItâs like weâre mocking the clichĂ©, but with style,â he said, adjusting JJâs jacket.
The scene turned out so well that the director asked to shoot it from multiple angles. After every take, Rudy would wink at you, making you smile despite yourself. The funny thing was, even though JJ and Isabellaâs kiss wasnât originally meant to happen again in the series, the on-screen chemistry between you two led to more moments like that.
Still, the main storyline for Isabella revolved around Barry, the character who was supposed to be her big love interest. Barry was different, but his relationship with Isabella brought an emotional depth that fans quickly adored.
Even so, every time you and Rudy shared a scene, the vibe on set shifted. There was something contagious about the way you interacted, both on and off camera. It wasnât uncommon for the other cast members to watch you two during breaks and joke about your 'explosive chemistry.'
âYou two would be absolute chaos if they let you,â Chase said one day, watching you rehearse a particularly intense scene.
And he wasnât wrong. Despite Isabella clearly being paired with Barry, you couldnât deny that working with Rudy was one of the most fun and genuine parts of the production. That connection eventually led fans to start shipping Isabella and JJ, even though the showâs narrative had other plans.
The on-screen kisses quickly became a recurring topic among the cast and crew.
Everything was going perfectly fine between you and Rudy until the fans started noticing what you and the rest of the cast already knew: your on-screen chemistry was undeniable. Comments on Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter exploded as soon as the first kiss scene between Isabella and JJ aired.
'Does anyone else think JJ and Isabella should be endgame?'
'Barry has nothing on JJ-Bella tension. Sorry, not sorry.'
'The way JJ looks at Isabella when she walks away⊠CHEFâS KISS. I need more of them.'
'I donât care what anyone says, Rudy and Isabella HAVE to be together, ON and OFF screen.'
At first, the comments didnât bother you. After all, most of them were about the characters, not you as actors. Even the more insistent ones were easy to brush off. But things changed when fan theories started crossing the line.
'Have you guys noticed how Rudy is always around her in BTS? đ'
'I refuse to believe thereâs nothing going on between them off-screen. Look at their interviews.'
'Sorry, but Rudyâs girlfriend doesnât hold a candle to her. Stay with Y/N.'
That last comment felt like a trigger. Suddenly, the presence of Rudyâs girlfriend, whose relationship with him had been private and mostly unknown to fans, became glaringly obvious. She hadnât been around during the first few months of filming, but now she showed up on set often, always quiet but clearly watching everything.
At first, you tried to be friendly. She wasnât part of the cast, but you understood her wanting to be near Rudy. However, the tension started becoming noticeable when she stopped hiding her discomfort around you.
âSo, this is the famous Isabella Cameron?,â she said one afternoon during a break. Her tone was sharp, even though her smile tried to mask it.
âYeah, I guess thatâs me.âYou smiled, trying not to let it affect you.
âWell, I hope you donât take everything the fans say too seriously. Rudy and I have something real, not like those fake kisses you share with him.â
You were caught off guard. It wasnât like you cared about what she thought, but her comment made it clear she didnât really know where the line between fiction and reality was. From that moment on, her little digs became more frequent.
One day, while scrolling through your social media, you saw a comment she left under one of your photos promoting the show. It didnât say much, but the sarcasm was obvious:
"Wow, working with Rudy must be the highlight of your career. You must love it."
Fans, as expected, picked up on it right away. âWhyâs Rudyâs girlfriend so passive-aggressive towards her?â was one of the top comments on your profile. You laughed it off, but the whole thing left a bitter taste in your mouth.
The tension hit its peak during one of the more intense scenes between Isabella and JJ, where the two characters had to share an intimate moment in the middle of an argument. You and Rudy had rehearsed the scene, and everything seemed fine until you noticed his sudden change in attitude.
âEverything okay?â you asked him before shooting.
âYeah, itâs fine.â His answer was short, distant, and not like him at all.
You couldnât help but think his girlfriend had something to do with it. She was sitting in a corner of the set, arms crossed, watching you both. She wasnât doing anything obvious, but her presence was enough to throw him off and, by extension, ruin the dynamic you two usually had.
After the scene ended, you confronted him.
âWhatâs going on with you? We never had problems before, but now itâs like you donât even want to be around me.â
âItâs not that.â He avoided your gaze, confirming what you already suspected.
âThen what is it? Your girlfriend? Because if itâs about her, I need you to tell me now if weâre going to keep working like we used to or not.â
Rudy sighed, running a hand through his hair. You knew he didnât want to have this conversation, but it was necessary.
âShe just⊠doesnât get it. And I donât want things to get messier than they already are.â
âAnd what about our work?â you asked, more frustrated than you intended to sound.
He didnât answer, but his silence was enough to tell you that, fair or not, things wouldnât go back to the way they were.
After that, Rudy started pulling away not just from you, but from the rest of the cast too. The jokes between takes became less frequent, and the fun improvisations you both used to enjoy practically disappeared. No one said anything, but it was obvious something was wrong.
Social media wasnât helping. Every time you posted something about the show, fans kept fueling the drama with their theories and comments.
âRudyâs girlfriend is definitely behind this. Theyâre not even in interviews together anymore.â
âItâs so sad that JJ and Isabella have such good chemistry, but off-camera, itâs a mess.â
You tried to ignore it, but some nights you couldnât help feeling frustrated. Not because of the comments, but because you missed how things used to be. Rudy was one of the best co-stars youâd ever had, and now it felt like you couldnât even be friends.
And the worst part? He wasnât doing anything to fix it.
When the fourth season rolled around, the news hit like a bomb. During a cast table read, the producers announced that JJ Maybankâs arc would come to a tragic end with a heroic death. While everyone murmured in shock, you could only look at him. Rudy sat in silence, arms crossed, eyes glued to the script, avoiding eye contact with everyoneâespecially you.
âWhat does this mean?â you asked Jonas directly.
âIt was Rudyâs decision,â he replied, with a tone that made it clear he didnât want to elaborate.
You couldnât believe it. Youâd heard rumors that Rudy wasnât as excited about continuing on the show, but you always thought they were just that rumors. But now it was clear heâd made the most drastic choice possible.
That night, you couldnât stay quiet. You found him outside the set, sitting on one of the service stairs, like he was waiting for someone to confront him.
âWhat the hell are you doing?â you blurted out. He looked up, surprised by your tone, but said nothing. He just shrugged.
âIâve got nothing left to do here. Iâm done.â
That lit a fire in you.
âDone? Are you serious? Rudy, your character is one of the fansâ favorites. JJ still has so much potential, and youâre just letting him die because⊠what? Because your girlfriend canât handle us doing our jobs?â
He frowned, clearly annoyed.
âThis has nothing to do with her. Itâs my decision, and itâs final.â
âOf course, it has to do with her. Ever since she started coming to set, youâve changed. Youâre not the same anymore. You canât even joke around with me like you used to. Now youâd rather run away than face things.â
Rudy stood up, defensive.
âAnd what do you expect me to do? Ignore everything? Pretend like Iâm not losing my relationship?.â
âYouâre not losing your relationship, Rudy. Youâre sabotaging your career. And along the way, youâre throwing away everything we had, our friendship, all of it. Why canât you see that?.â
âBecause itâs not as simple for me as it is for you,â he said, raising his voice. There was frustration and pain in his tone.
âWhatâs that supposed to mean?â you asked, crossing your arms.
âIt means not everyone can separate things like you. Do you know how hard itâs been for me? Everyone assumes thereâs something between us, like thereâs more⊠And she sees it, the fans see it. No matter how much I deny it, someoneâs always pointing it out.â
The intensity of his words caught you off guard, but you werenât about to back down.
âSo what? Youâre just going to throw it all away? Let her control every decision you make? Thatâs not professional. Itâs childish.â
He shook his head like your words couldnât break through the wall heâd built.
âDo what you want, but donât expect me to stay quiet while you ruin something that meant so much to all of us,â you said before turning and walking away.
From that moment on, things went downhill fast. What used to be a natural and fun connection turned into pure tension. Arguments became frequent, both on and off set. Something as simple as a rehearsal could turn into a battleground, and it wasnât long before it started affecting the whole team.
In scenes where Isabella and JJ had to interact, the tension was so obvious that even the directors began to notice something was off. After weeks of trying, they decided to use doubles for the shots where the two of you shared the screen.
The rumor spread quickly among the crew. People whispered behind your backs, some blaming Rudy, others blaming you, but most were just confused. It wasnât easy to explain how one of the castâs most beloved dynamics had turned into something so unsustainable.
By the time the last scene rolled around, the atmosphere on set was heavy. That day, JJâs final scene was being filmedâa moment that would mark the end of an era for the show and the cast. While everyone tried to keep the energy upbeat and positive, all you could feel was an overwhelming emptiness.
It wasnât just about JJ leaving; it was because Rudy was leaving too. Even though your relationship had deteriorated to the point of being unrecognizable, you couldnât help but remember how things had started: the laughs, the improvisations, the jokes that even got the directors to join in. Now, none of that was left.
The scene you were filming was heartbreaking, probably the most emotional one of the entire season. JJ sacrificed himself to save Isabella and the other Pogues, dying heroically. You, as Isabella, had to hold him in your arms while he said his final words.
When the director called action, you threw yourself into character completely. Isabella was desperate, her hands covered in blood as she tried to hold back tears.
âNo, JJ, donât do this to me,â you said, your voice breaking. The script called for you to cling to him, as if you could stop the inevitable.
Rudy, as JJ, looked at you with a weak smile the same one that had always defined his character, even in the darkest moments.
âDonât cry, Bella. You always knew Iâd do something stupid like this.â He coughed, mimicking the characterâs weakness, but there was something else in his voice something that felt way too real.
âDonât say that!â you screamed as Isabella, feeling a knot in your stomach that went beyond acting. Tears streamed down your face, and for a moment, you wondered if they were yours or your characterâs.
âTake care of them... all of them.â He tried to laugh, but his voice faltered. JJâs eyes closed, and the camera captured your devastated face as you hugged him one last time.
âCut!â the director yelled.
The set erupted in applause. The crew, the castâeveryone knew they had just filmed something unforgettable. But you couldnât move. You kept holding onto Rudy, trying to steady your breathing, because even though the scene was over, the emotions were still there.
âYou were incredible,â someone said, but you didnât register who. You barely heard Rudy mumble a âthank youâ to everyone as he stood up and walked off set.
As soon as you snapped out of character, the real tears came. You werenât one to cry in front of everyone, so you slipped away from the set and found a quiet corner where you could be alone. Sitting on one of the folding chairs, away from the lights and noise, you let the emotions take over.
âAre you okay?â Madison asked, approaching cautiously.
You looked up at her and tried to smile, but you couldnât.
âYeah, just... havenât gotten much rest.â
Madison nodded and stayed quiet beside you. You knew she didnât want to push you but was still worried. After a while, she gave your shoulder a squeeze and went back to the set, leaving you with your thoughts.
Later, when everyone was gathering to say goodbye to Rudy, you couldnât bring yourself to go near him. You watched from a distance as he was surrounded by hugs, encouragement, and smiles. He seemed happyâor at least relieved. But to you, it all felt like a façade.
You knew youâd eventually have to face him, but you were too angry to do it now. Every time someone asked if you were going to say goodbye, you just answered, âMaybe later.â
The anger you felt toward Rudy had become constant. No matter how much you tried to justify it or make sense of it, it always led back to the same thing: he acted like none of this mattered. Like losing his friends, his job, and everything youâd built together meant nothing.
But what bothered you most wasnât just his apparent indifference it was how, deep down, you found yourself wanting him. You hated yourself for it. You tortured yourself with thoughts that if things had been different if his girlfriend wasnât in the picture, if he could see things the way you didâyou wouldnât be here now. But you knew he wasnât that kind of person, which is why youâd always tried to give him the best advice, even if it hurt.
The night before Rudy officially left the set, he came to find you. You had just finished packing up your things and were walking to the parking lot when you saw him waiting by your car.
âCan we talk?â he asked, his expression unfamiliar. He looked exhausted, almost desperate.
âWhat for?â you shot back, crossing your arms. Sarcasm had become your go-to defense. âTo have one last argument? That seems to be all we do lately.â
He sighed, running a hand through his hair.
âI donât want to argue. I just... I need to explain myself.â
You were caught off guard by that. You hesitated for a moment before tilting your head toward the passenger seat.
âTalk.â
He leaned against your car, staring at the ground before finally speaking.
âI know you think I donât care about any of this. That Iâm just walking away because none of it matters to me. But thatâs not true.â
You rolled your eyes, unable to hide your disbelief.
âOh, really? Because it sure seems like you donât care. Youâve distanced yourself from everyone, didnât even try to fix things, and now youâre just leaving. What do you expect us to think?â
âItâs not that I donât care. Itâs just... I donât know how to handle it,â he admitted, with a sincerity you hadnât seen in him for a long time.
You stared at him, trying to figure out if he really meant it or if it was just another excuse.
âRudy, weâve all tried to help you. Madison, Chase, even the directors. We all wanted to help, but you wouldnât listen to anyone. And you canât blame us for being upset when it seems like all you care about is keeping someone happy who doesnât even understand what you do.â
âItâs not as easy as you make it sound,â he shot back, his voice rising slightly. âShe didnât ask for this. She didnât ask to compete with fans, theories, or with you.â
âWith me?â you asked, stepping closer to him, feeling anger boil inside you again. âAre you seriously saying this is my fault?â
âNo, thatâs not what I meant,â he said quickly, but it was too late.
âListen, I never tried to make you choose between your career and your relationship. In fact, I always told you that you could have both if you just took a second to put things into perspective. But you didnât. You chose to pull away, not just from me, but from everyone. And now, youâre leaving. So tell me, what else do you want me to do?â
For a moment, he didnât seem to have an answer. He just looked at you, his lips slightly parted, like he was searching for the right words.
âI want you to understand that this wasnât an easy decision,â he finally said. âAnd I want you to know that I never wanted us to end up like this.â
You laughed, though there was nothing funny about the situation.
âIs that it? You want my forgiveness? Or are you expecting me to sit here feeling sorry for myself because you decided to throw everything away?â
He took a step toward you, but you stepped back.
âNo. Iâve had enough. Do what you have to do. Go live your life, but donât expect me to sit here waiting for you to realize you made a mistake. Because you did. Not just with me, but with everyone who cared about you here.â
His eyes darkened, but he didnât argue. He just nodded slowly, like he was accepting your words.
âGoodbye,â he said, with a sadness he hadnât shown before.
âGoodbye, Rudy,â you replied.â
After that night, Rudy disappeared from your life. No immediate messages, no attempts to reconnectâat least not in the first few weeks. You didnât reach out either. Youâd made everything clear that last time, and you didnât want to go back to a cycle of arguments that never seemed to end.
But as the weeks went by and the Outer Banks team started gearing up for the promotion of the new season, something inevitable happened: contact between you two. The first time you saw a message from him, you were going through emails, looking for info about the upcoming red carpet event.
It was simple, almost casual.
Rudy: âHey. Hope youâre doing okay. Howâs everything going?â
You read it a couple of times, trying to decide if it was worth replying. You knew heâd probably written and rewritten that message several times before sending it, but you still werenât ready to fully open that door again. Finally, you typed:
You: âAll good. You?â
It took him days to reply. When he did, it was just as brief.
Rudy: âGood too. Thanks for asking.â
It didnât seem like much, but for someone like Rudy, who always avoided uncomfortable conversations, it was something. The messages continuedâspaced out, always short. Heâd ask how work was going; youâd reply politely, sometimes returning the question, other times leaving the thread hanging. It didnât feel like a conversation between friends, more like an attempt to hold onto something that wasnât really there anymore.
When the first promotional event for the new season rolled around, you knew it was only a matter of time before you saw him. The whole cast was thereâexcept Rudyâbut that didnât mean he wouldnât show up. Even though he wasnât actively part of the show anymore, his character was still important, and the producers wanted him there to honor that legacy.
The anxiety hit days before the event. Even though youâd managed to respond to some of his messages neutrally, the thought of seeing him in person made your heart race. You didnât know how youâd react. Would you ignore him? Act like nothing happened? Talk?
The day came quicker than youâd hoped. You got ready in your hotel room, surrounded by stylists and makeup artists doing their thing while you stared at your reflection in the mirror, lost in thought. You wore a stunning dress, something that screamed strength and confidence, but inside, you felt more vulnerable than ever.
When you arrived at the event, the usual chaos of red carpets consumed youâflashes, photographers yelling, rapid-fire interviews. Everything seemed to be going as expected until you saw him. Rudy was on the other side of the carpet, talking to a group of reporters. He wore a simple but sharp suit, and while his smile was polite, there was something in his eyes you couldnât quite figure out.
Madison, standing next to you, nudged you lightly.
âThere he is,â she murmured, not needing to clarify who she meant.
âI know,â you said, trying to keep your composure.
You knew youâd eventually have to cross paths with him, but you avoided it as much as you could. There were interviews to do, group photos to take, fans to greet, and you stayed as far away from him as possible the whole time.
The red carpet premiere was everything youâd expectedâflashes, shouting fans, excitement everywhere. But for you, it all felt distant. Rudy and you barely glanced at each other the entire time. It was like you were both in your own worlds, aware of the crowd but completely detached from everything else.
There was an awkward tension in the air, one you couldnât ignore. The pain from the past months was still there, but it wasnât something you were willing to show in public. The press team and photographers fired off quick questions, and while the flashes lit up everyoneâs faces, you responded just enough, smiling when necessary. Still, Rudyâs presence, even from a distance, made you feel shaky.
Every now and then, your eyes met hisâbrief, almost fleetingâbut always heavy with something you couldnât name. He didnât approach you, didnât try to break the ice. He kept his distance, and everything between you stayed frozen, like time had stopped. The laughter and chatter around you felt mechanical, as if all your emotions were locked away in a room neither of you wanted to enter.
It wasnât until you moved inside the venue for the screening that things shifted. The photographers were still snapping group photos, this time with the entire cast. A bunch of people surrounded you, and among them, somehow, was Rudy. You didnât even notice when he got closer, but when one of the photographers gestured for everyone to squeeze in, Rudy slid in beside you. Without a word, he put his hand on your waist, stepping closer to position himself next to you. The move caught you off guard.
The photographer, clearly waiting for that moment, shouted instructions.
âCloser, please!â he called as flashes started going off again.
Instinctively, you leaned into Rudy, the heat of his body almost too much, a reminder of everything youâd once shared. The closeness made you uneasy, but it also surprised you how natural it felt for him. Like nothing had changed. Like everything was fine.
The flashes kept coming. Then, in the middle of it all, Rudy leaned in slightly, his voice barely audible over the chaos of the cameras.
âJust for tonight,â he murmured, with a faint but genuine smile, like he was trying to ease the tension.
You froze for a second, staring at him. Annoyance bubbled inside you, but you knew this was part of the job. It was a moment neither of you could avoid, no matter how much you wished you could.
âJust for tonight,â you repeated, more to yourself than to him, taking a deep breath as you forced a smile onto your face.
The photographer kept directing the group, asking for different poses, more smiles, more closeness. A part of you wanted to pull away, but another part knew that would only make things worse. So you went with it, doing what was expected, perfect smile, flawless posture, all while Rudyâs hand stayed on your waist, like it was the most normal thing in the world.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the photographer signaled that the shoot was done. Rudyâs hand dropped from your waist, but he didnât step away. He looked at you, his gaze holding too many unspoken words.
âYou okay?â he asked softly, his voice low, meant only for you.
You looked at him, feeling the words catch in your throat. There was something ironic about that question. You knew the answer wasnât as simple as âyes.â Everything between you two was so tangled, so complicated, that words seemed pointless.
âIâm fine,â you replied, though it didnât feel true. The answer came out more robotic than honest, but you werenât willing to give him more than that.
Once again, the distance between you both became tangible. Rudy didnât push. He gave you one last look before turning back to the group, rejoining the rest of the cast. You, on the other hand, stayed there for a moment, trying to process what had just happened.
Even though youâd had to interact with him for work, the frustration lingered in your chest.
The night went on, and you knew youâd have to face him again at some point. The red carpets, the events, the interviewsâit was all part of the job. But at the end of the day, all that was left between you two was the weight of a past you still didnât know how to let go of.

okay the new episode has people poking my sleeping special interest like a bear and it was about time to wake it from hibernation anyway so here are some fun facts about welsh fairies
it's spelled fairy. it's always spelled fairy. not faerie, faery, fae, or fey. fairy. please. or tylwyth teg if you want to be proper about it
fairies are not inherently malevolent. they work by their own rules that sometimes don't make sense to humans but there are rules, if you pay attention.
yes fairies will punish you for doing something they don't want you to do
they will also reward you for doing things they do want you to do
fairy rings are circles of green grass. they sometimes how up as a different shade of green than the grass around it and are generally markers of where fairies dance, as well as portals to the fairy realm. mushrooms aren't really a thing for that in welsh folklore.
string and bones and flowers are man-made and possibly supposed to bind or protect against fairies (though i haven't seen anything quite like what we see in the episode described in any of my sources) but generally breaking one of those doesn't immediately anger fairies, just lets them in to affect whoever put the ward up in the first place. that's not called a fairy circle.
changelings exist in welsh folklore. have fun with your theories.
fairies will generally let you leave the fairy world if you ask nicely. yes even if you've eaten the food and drank the drinks
however time moves differently so when you come back you might be super old and/or turn to dust the moment someone touches you
dancing is a different thing tho. they don't exactly want you to stay dancing with them until you die of exhaustion but like that's on you my dude get your friends to help you
if you broke fairy rules like kicking them out of their meadow to build a castle they will count eight* generations** and come back to turn that castle into a lake and drown everyone inside. you have been warned (repeatedly. usually by old ladies and/or bards and/or birds or sometimes just. A Voiceâą)
* the number of generations can and does vary but in welsh folklore it's generally 8 that's an important number, not 3 or 7.
** also the way generations are counted is. weird. idk if it's that i'm bad at math or bad at welsh or that the book i read explaining this is over 100 years old but i don't think i fully got how many generations this actually is.
oh and they only wait if you beg enough otherwise they kill you now
so basically. no getting trapped in the fairy world as punishment. they just kill you
personally i think the closest thing in welsh folklore to that old woman is a weird lady but even that isn't a great fit
yeah fairies bend time and space to always be far away from you if they want to but that's generally because they're trying to avoid you not following you at a distance
i am fully aware rtd probably couldn't care less about any of this. he definitely didn't do the work that i did to learn all this and incorporating this into your theories is probably shooting yourself in the foot as far as actually being correct goes. HOWEVER i do think it's more interesting and fun this way :) theories are gonna be wrong anyway might as well respect the culture that's inspiring them while we're at it yeah?
i will cite my sources if anyone asks but i doubt many people care to read hundreds of pages of edwardian non fiction novels just to fact check me. trust me on this guys

hey there!! iâm attempting to post this content for like the seventh time now and iâm just annoyed more than anything. this post will be the content warning for it and iâll just post it separately as kind of like a long blurb thing. sorry i was trying to be cute but i suppose tumblr hates me <3
hereâs a link to take you to the actual fic <3
a/n: this text is a collection of my thoughts while i was at work yesterday about leon having a yandere partner. this isnât really like a coherent story, just a bunch of rambles and thoughts. i donât think i did the term yandere justice tho lol. more notes at the end of the tags!
word count: 2.8k
content: sub!leon x yandere!reader. no pronouns for reader, no body parts described, everyone wants leon, mentions of bondage and body writing. less about sub!leon and more leon grappling with what to do with his obsessed lover.
warnings: blood, reader killing 2+ random unnamed people, toxic relationship dynamic (reader is loving and kind to him but itâs still really bad), dubcon (he wants it but heâs a little hesitant with the whole murder thing)
this is just a reminder that abuse in any form is not okay. just because youâre not hitting your partner or verbally degrading them does not mean youâre not abusing them.
this text describes the reader as violent and cruel to other people, and if we forget what they do to others, their relationshipâs power dynamic with leon is completely skewed. the reader makes him believe they are the only one who will love him and care for him when he has flashbacks to traumatic memories. additionally, they isolate him from the other people in his life. again, this is not flashy, in-your-face abusive. but is important to recognize that this fact really does not matter. abuse is abuse.
when the reader is the active character performing acts of abuse or nonconsent in fantasy scenarios, we have a responsibility as adults choosing to consume this type of media to recognize reality from fiction and remind ourselves this is not how you approach relationships in real life, even more so than when the reader is the passive character having things done to themselves. it is okay to enjoy this concept as a fantasy (i had fun writing it! so i hope you enjoy it!) but do remember it is not real and should not be real.
this post contains no glaringly obvious non consent, there is no struggle nor force and no influence of drugs or alcohol, but i thought iâd touch on it anyway. thereâs a moment of dubiousness as leon is hesitant to âgive inâ because the reader just killed two people. obviously, i donât advise or endorse murder. what iâm getting at though is that leon or anyone in that position could feel like they didnât have a choice but to do what the other person says out of fear. that breaks the âfreely givenâ pillar of consent and automatically means itâs not consensual. your and others consent in real life should be respected and abided by at all times.
thank u for reading u are so sweet for doing so <3

A Biracial Reading of OFMD, ft. Iggyâs Revenge Izcourse
a.k.a. I typed out a sentence that turned into an accidental essay of meta, whoops!
YâallâŠI love this fandom to pieces, but I donât think some of you realize why not all of us love Izzy/may be critiquing him. And major disclaimerâI am in NO WAY telling anyone to stop enjoying him as a character. This is NOT an anti-Izzy post (I will go into more detail on why I in fact encourage you to keep doing so later, and to the people who are sending unsolicited hate mail to Izzy fans & haters alike: please donât!)âIâm just tired of seeing vitriolic hate against the people writing about him as an antagonist, or critiquing his actions based on canon, or post after post of âwhy donât people love Izzy like I do!!â and then aggression when people explain their honest opinions. Look: we all have our skrungly little bad guys. I get it!! Iâve got my own collection!! I too have become a consumer and enjoyer of the Izzy fanon!!! PLEASE donât take this as an attackâI just want to provide some personal, potentially fresh context from at least one (obviously non-exhaustive) perspective for those who want to know why Izzy isnât universally adored, and also to make a plea for a safer fandom space where we can talk about our perspectives on these fictional characters without escalating to unnecessary vitriol, especially as s2 be upon ye (bc holy shit fandom is supposed to be fun, weâre having fun and thatâs an order đ€)
(Oh, and I know Iâm potentially stirring the pot with this post, but this should go without saying: donât send each other death threats. What the fuck. Nobody do this?!)
So now that the legalize is out of the way: I want to share that the reason I initially imprinted on this showâand on Ed specificallyâwas because Iâd never seen an explicitly biracial character treated with such complexity, nuance, and grace. While our ethnic makeups are vastly different, I too am half-white & half-brownâwhich means weâre absolutely nothing culturally alike, but our worlds view and treat us as pretty much the same regardless. And like Ed, my dad resents my mom and my racial makeup, and is prone to what I like to call âwhite violence.â Not going to overshare on the internet, but letâs just say that all this compounded makes Ed feel highly relatable to me (although for legal purposes I promise I have not krakened my dad đ).
When I first watched the show (and honestly also until my 3rd or 4th rewatch), Izzy IMMEDIATELY made me think of my dad. He also immediately made me think of Edâs dad. Their mannerisms, word choices, and tones of voice; the obsessive need for control; the default of violence; the gradual dehumanization until an ultimate kraken-ifying breaking pointâit all read to me like an intentional parallel. A shadow of white violence following Ed around that he hasnât been able to shake, and mirroring to him the things he fears the most, including the things he fears within himself and feels forced to become (he is half-white after all, and this is a whole other post, but tl;dr there can be a lot of baggage that comes with being half-white/half-poc in regards to grappling with your toxic relationship to that white side of yourself, and especially if your white parent was racist and/or violent). And you can claim a different reading of all of this if you want (I genuinely mean that, like Iâm in favor of meta & I think itâs great to analyze these things) BUT. that does not change the fact that I felt what I felt as a result of what was portrayed on screen and combined with my lived experience. Because fictional characters are just thatâfictionalâand are vessels by which you can process the world; we will always bring our personal lived experiences to anything we consume, and thatâs okayâthat can be the point, even. Art imitates life imitates art. Interpretation is the name of the game!
(more under the cut)
So when I watch this show, itâs a helpful tool for me to process my own feelings of being victimized by the white violence thatâs followed me around my whole life, as well as the ways in which Iâve rebelled against it/tried to make peace with a non-toxic version of whiteness (in parallel to the more overt theme of masculinity, which isâding dingâinexplicably tied to whiteness and western colonialism) via chaos, love, hurt, and sometimes giving up and giving inâand in this process, Izzy is a safe target. And you know why that is? Because heâs FICTIONAL. I can feel rage towards him because heâs NOT REAL. I can better understand and process the pain Iâve felt and rarely seen societally acknowledged by watching it paralleled on screen via actors and writers who have likely also grappled with similar feelings (I mean, I genuinely have made more progress with my personal biracial trauma via this show vs. years of therapy), and if I want to assume the worst of Izzy based on my interpretation of canon to help me through this? Thatâs fine! Because I canât hurt his feelings and he canât hurt mine!! Because heâs not real!!!
And hereâs why I still support the Izzy-enjoyment: I am sure that many of the people who love Izzy and defend him to the ends of the earth probably feel a similar way that I do about Ed. Itâs why we get all riled up and protective of these characters, why we might take attacks on them as attacks on ourselves; recognition of the self in the form of the other, and all that. Izzy is a vessel by which to safely work through the dark feelings and the pain youâve bottled upâand heâs a safe way to do that because heâs FICTIONAL. And thatâs a beautiful thing imo!! Thatâs truly the beauty of artâit is what we make of it, and what we make of it helps make ourselves better. Itâs good to be open to interpretation.
HOWEVER: that does not give you permission to discount my relationship to this show (as I will not discount yours), and more importantly: that does NOT give you permission to reject the notion that canonically in s1, Izzy is literally and thematically (emphasis on thematically) an antagonist who is purposefully written to cause harm that can be interpreted as a hate crime, especially to those with lived experience of homophobia/racism/ableism/bullying/etc.âand you cannot harass people about this when conversing about theories of canon. If someone sees Izzyâs dialogue as cutting, degrading, and even triggering, thatâs extremely fair of them to do soâclearly Ed was written to feel it that way! Con himself has paralleled Izzy with Judas! And can interpret it all differently? Sure! But you CANNOT assume that everyone else will, and then get upset when people donât. I canât believe I need to spell this out about an angry white guy in a show about toxic masculinity, but if someone does not like Izzy, it is likely due to a personal history of harassment (or worse) that he is reminiscent of; by making a point to defend him to someoneâeven if you are well-intentionedâyou are very much putting salt in a wound.
I want to take this opportunity to further emphasize some tenets of fandom in general:
you can like characters who do horrible things without needing to jump hoops to argue their morals as pure đ
conversely, you can critique their actions and still like them (encouraged, even) đ
you can like characters who do horrible things simply because theyâre cool and hot and interestingâdonât worry, we know itâs not the same as liking people like them irl đ
your liking a villain archetype says nothing about your own moral virtue đ
you can like horrible characters and see reasons for why they are the way they are/view them as tragic/note sympathetic dimensions of their personality/root for them to have redemption arcs while acknowledging that said redemption arc may not have happened in canon yet and that these are implicit, not explicit, readings of canon đ
and you can also reimagine canon and change their contexts in fan works so that they ARE morally virtuous đ but PLEASE just be mindful and accountable when you do this in a context where not everyone will see a character the same way as you, and where multiple of people of marginalized identities have spoken out about the harm not doing so can cause. Just be honest, sincere, and kind, listen and learn, and donât harass people for understandably needing space from a character that symbolizes something different to them than it does to you.
Also: blocking tags or people just because they have character opinions different than yours is totally okay and does not mean anything other than âI am curating my online space to have a better time,â itâs NOT personal
And most importantly: FANDOM IS FOR FUN! This isnât our day job! We come to fandom to decompress. Donât ruin peopleâs safe spaces!!!
Like I said, Iâve grown to enjoy Izzy over time thanks to fandom and fanon, and I think itâs fantastic that fandom can have such diversity in the way it interprets canon. I canât wait for his probable redemption arc (it will likely be a healing thing to witness for many of us) and Iâm truly glad that we can all have different relationships to the same characters. But pleaseâwhen some of us need Izzy to be a punching bag, just let him be a punching bag. No, itâs not homophobic and DEFINTELY not misogynistic to view him as an obstacle in Ed and Stedeâs relationship (baffled by the amount of times Iâve seen this takeâitâs a funny joke but if you actually think Izzy is treated the way female characters related to other mlm ships have been treated, the point is very much going whoosh). You donât have to engage; itâs not personal. Itâs not about YOUR relationship with himâitâs about MINE. Please let me feel and even discuss rage towards him when I think about episode 10. Please let me throw as many sandwiches at his head as I need to. Because I PROMISE, it wonât hurt himâbecause he, and none of these characters, are real; and yet we, the fans, very much are.
#woof#did I add enough disclaimers?#this was longer than intended so if you read all the way through Iâm giving you a kiss#I wasnât going to engage but I keep seeing vitriol in the tag when all I want to do is decompress and I justâŠ#I just came here to see gay ppl kiss sir this is a Wendyâs#fandom should be a safe space and I hate getting an ick from tumblr when itâs what Iâm trying to use to escape the bad shit#life is hard enough lmao#anyway#please be kind to each other#I could go into the whole other topic of what the trauma of Covid did to our virtual affect and interpersonal skills but#alas thatâs a thesis within itself#and on that note I have my actual thesis to work on so i wonât be closely monitoring this post just needed to get this all off my chest#and for what itâs worth Iâve been trying to avoid s2 spoilers so I havenât seen the Izzy clip yet but thatâs honestly irrelevant to this#bc this is in relation to s1 and I hope we can all just have a good time again this season#ofmd#our flag means death#the izcourse#ofmd meta#trauma#racism

Author ask tag game
Thanks to @rickie-the-storyteller for tagging me in this one! I'm answering for Spin Cylinder (the sequel to November Breaks)...
What is the main lesson of your story (e.g. kindness, diversity, anti-war), and why did you choose it?
I know I should say something deep and meaningful for this, but if there's a lesson in it at all, it's just "It's fun to make up some guys and then make them do fucked up shit"
What did you use as inspiration for your worldbuilding (like real-life cultures, animals, famous media, websites, etc.)?
Both Spin Cylinder and November Breaks are set in and around an unnamed every-city. Some of the locations are based on places I've been, like the cafe, Alchemy, which is based on a bar that no longer exists next to the beach in Edinburgh. Brett and Noah's house is pure wish fulfilment though. It exists in my head in so much detail and is basically what I would want from a house if money was no object.
What is your MC trying to achieve, and what are you, the writer, trying to achieve with them? Do you want to inspire others, teach forgiveness, and help readers grow as a person?
There's a lot about identity going on, a lot of "Who am I without external expectations and this job that defined me for years?" The characters are also adjusting to a state of obsessive togetherness that they both fell into after being aggressively disconnected from the people around them for most of their lives. Please god do not let anyone be inspired by them. They are literally criminals and murderers. They are not supposed to be inspirational. They wouldn't know forgiveness if it shot them in the face. No-one is growing as a person as a result of reading this book. I'm just having fun writing their story and offering it up to anyone who enjoys exploring the dark side of human nature in a fictional sandboxed environment with lots of weather symbolism and expensive coats.
How many chapters is your story going to have?
I have absolutely no idea. I don't know if it's going to be a novel or serialised/episodic fiction. I'm still discovery drafting so it'll figure itself out.
Is it fanfiction or original content? Where do you plan to post it?
It's original content and I'll be posting it here on Tumblr.
When and why did you start writing?
I missed this question first time round so I'm back to answer it now. I honestly don't remember when I started writing. Forever ago? As soon as I could write? I've always loved fiddling around with words for creativity and escapism, so I've always done it. I wish I had a better origin story, but I don't. It's very boring. I started writing novel-shaped things a few years ago. Before that it was short stories, creative non-fiction, and poetry. I worked in marketing and online comms for a while, so the word fiddling ended up being useful for that too.
Do you have any words of engagement for fellow writers of writeblr?
Is that meant to be words of encouragement? I'm going to assume it is. So. Write what makes your soul sing. If you love it, someone else will love it too. Creativity is not a one-size-fits-all pursuit. Make sure your goals are authentically your own and not other people's recycled expectations. Stop shoulding all over yourself. Have fun.
What other writers on Tumblr do you follow?
SO MANY AWESOME WRITERS!! I struggle to list people because I feel like I always leave someone out by accident. Look at the names that crop up regularly in my tag game posts. Those are good humans.
Tagging @leebrontide, @lunarmoment, @magic-is-something-we-create and @manathen if you'd like to do it, with an open tag for anyone else who wants to join in. Questions under the cut đ

Tw yandere, hawks is in heat?
Would you care to share ?
Yandere hawks x yandere dabi x reader
Something about the villain/hero dynamic seduces me. Lol
I DON'T CONDONE THIS BEHAVIOR! THIS IS FICTIONAL!
Hawks has designated you as his personal secretary.
After that, the only one that was close to him almost the 24 hours of the day was you. Following him to photoshoots, interviews and some other non-dangerous activities.
Sadly Your free time was seriously compromised by his excruciating schedule.
Wishing for a personal life away from the hero, you've gathered all your courage and knocked his office door. But before your knuckles came in contact with the wood, you heard a male voice inside. it was deeper than your boss.
"I'm fxcking sick of the waiting! We should just take what we both want. " And his tone was quite rude too, you noticed as He kept talking:
"listen to me hero scam, I've a place where the three of us would be unbothered...And before you say anything the house is fully furnished and packed with a few fun things. If you get what I mean." He utter the last phrase with a chuckle.
But it didn't make sense, you've checked his schedule this morning. No one was supposed to be in the building till night time because of the water failure repair. Was this an urgent meeting of some kind...?
You couldn't dwell in your thoughts for long as you heard the conversation getting louder and louder. "Your plan is too reckless! All the flames must've fried your brain, Dabi".
You definitely are in need of a break, there's no way that the pro hero is talking with a villain. You read some time back about the long side effects of lack of sleep and hallucination was one of them.
"She is right here! Do you really think that someone could stop us? Come on hawks...you're being a selfish asshole" along with his voice you make up a stange noice... like paper burning up?
"You act like I dont want her to be ours too. Besides you already know why right now she is under my care" the hero said with a sight. Taking a big breath he continued.
"Self control Is not only hard for you, with every passing day my dirty thoughts about her are getting...harder to control. When I watch her I can't stop imagining how would she look on top of me, her breasts going up and down because of my trusts. The feeling of her in the verge of climax. Ahh..."
Was that a moan? You couldn't catch it completely. Soon you realized you weren't the only one with doubt as the villain raised his voice. "HA! Was that a moan? You're making me hard, baby" then you make up some steps inside the office followed by a sloppy kissing sound.
"And you know I can see when you're in heat. Do you want some release?" Dabi said in a seductive manner.
This was getting too real to be an hallucination and...She? Who were they talking about? This didn't look good for the only remaining person in the building. You.
Slowly you step back trying to not make any noice but your own body betrays you. "Hic-" a hiccup escapes your lips. You covered your mouth with your hands, even though is alredy too late and the door is being wide open by crimson feathers.
Inside you see your first villain up close, surprisingly his hand on hawks's pants grabs more of your attention than all the burns in his body. Dabi's face stitches move as he smirks and they even threaten to detach themselves as he opens his mouth.
"Hawks I know that right now she is your secretary, but given the circumstances...
Would you care to share?"
If you liked don't forget to give me a heart/reblog đ€

I would love to try and take a stock of the types of diegesis used in audio fiction and how itâs changed over time. It feels in more recent stuff like itâs fallen out of trend to have an in-universe reasoning for the story like âItâs a radio station youâre listening toâ or âItâs old recordings you found!â just because that was such a saturated market towards the start of the AD boom that I feel like if you do that now people are going to presume youâre just trying to ride on the coat tails of one of them now (To the point where Night Vale and King Falls AM crew got in a twitter spat about similar themes). I think another reason itâs often passed over these days is just how much it confines your story, to the point where classic ADâs that had schtickâs for How Weâre Hearing This like The Bright Sessions or Wolf 359 just gave up halfway through because it became too much of an inconvenience to justify the diegetic formula while still maintaining a good story and not having to shoehorn recording devices in, and this is something newer ones have learned from.Â
Giving an in-universe explanation really shapes your story for that reason if you commit to it. Night Vale always stuck to it to my knowledge in some form or another, wheras TMA made the tapes not just a fun layer of meta but crucial to the plot itself. Wheras you might have Zoo or Jar of Rebuke be tape recordings but the reasoning for them seems to be to justify the narrative style of having the main character sharing their inner thoughts diary-style, which creates engagement that you wouldnât get if they werenât airing their thoughts to something rather than just having us observe them living their life.Â
This can also play into sound design because if you have A Device That Is Recording, your whole soundscape is gonna be based around that. How close are people standing to it. Do they move closer or further away? Does the recording device itself move? Can you use panning here? Does the recording device itself emit a noise?Â
BUT these things do also come into play in something without an in-universe recording device, where often one character will be chosen as the POV and audio will be centred around them. This can be especially cool in something like Juno Steel or Kane & Feels where they lean into the noir genre and have a character monologuing for reasons that arenât actually explained, youâre just expected to run with the non-naturalism because it allows you an insight into the characterâs mindset. This can even involve panning and stuff such as the opening of Kane & Feels episode 2 where one character is monologuing to the listener and the other cuts in, interrupting their train of thought because, and theyâve recorded further away from the mic than the close up of the one monologuing because the character is on the other side of the room from the first, giving a sense of spatial proximity and immersion by letting us experience things how the POV character does.Â
Then you have things that sort of straddle the line of diegesis because they wonât have a reason theyâre being recorded, but theyâll often have fourth-wall breaking elements like The Silt Verses being primarily read as if itâs a story being told to the listener by the character, even if there isnât an explanation for this, it just is how the story is structured. It leans into being first person and supplements it with actual scenes scattered between. Or Paired, where itâs never stated but from the fact that we move with the character, and you hear bits of static and glitching when needed youâre lead to assume youâre hearing whatever is picked up by the recording device that is the character, but weirdly thatâs never a confirmed thing because despite some scenes that mess with the formula and go for second person adressal to whoever is listening, itâs still a bit unexplained and not directly To An AudienceÂ
But of course these are just my personal insights from the ADâs Iâve consumed so Iâd love to map it all out and see what the trends are for these sort of things, if creators give specifics reasonings for why they chose a justification or not. Because itâs not something thatâs common in film or TV? At least to the extent of prevalence that it is/was in podcasts, and itâs not even really a holdover from radio dramas so I want to know what caused this surge when it came to podcasting. Was it just a case of looking at what everyone else was doing and copying a trend? Found footage was by no means a new genre when podcasts were starting to get big (Using 2012, Night Valeâs start date for lack of a better timeframe) but it did seem to have an uptick in popularity in 2013 in film according to wikipedia. It seems to be a technique almost always used for horror so the fact that a lot of AD is horror could contribute to it, but I think it might share a reason with why movies started to be made like that around the time, and itâs that it was cheap. It was a low budget way to frame things because it excused other production values. Your camera could be shaky, and your sound could be shoddy, and it was fine because you were supposed to believe it was recorded on a handheld camera or phone, it was all part of the framing. Most ADâs started recorded in someoneâs bedroom on a tiny budget so they were gonna be poor quality, if you say âwell itâs supposed to be, the character could only afford a ÂŁ10 recording device (I could only afford a ÂŁ10 recording device)â, or better yet you slap a tape whurring or radio static filter over it to mask the background fuzzy from an uninsulated room and youâre good to go.Â
.... Oh, what you thought there was going to be a summary or conclusion for this? Yeah so did I when I started writing it but genuinely I went down so many research rabbit holes Iâve forgotten what it was, so now itâs just an infodump <3

My Top Ten Overlooked Movies With Female Leads In No Particular Order
Note: When you see this emoji (â ïž) I will be talking about things people may find triggering, which are spoilery more often then not. I mention things that I think may count as triggers so that people with them will be aware before going in to watch any of these.
Edited: 3/16/21
Hanna (2011)
So, before I get into why you should watch this movie, I just want to take a moment to say why it's near and dear to my heart. Growing up as a queer kid in the early 2000s, seeing portrayals of people like or similar to myself on anything was rare at best. It was mostly in more "adult" movies or shows that my parents would occasionally let me watch with them that I'd see any lgbtq+ rep at all. Often times they were either walking stereotypes, designed to be buried, evil, or all three.
Then here comes this PG-13 action thriller with a wonderfully written main female lead who, at the time, was close to my age, and who got to kiss another girl (her very first friend, Sophie) on screen in an extremely tender and heartwarming scene. To say the least, it was a life changing moment for me personally.
Now that I've gotten that out of the way, Hanna is a suspenseful movie about a child super-soldier named, you guessed it, Hanna (played by Saoirse Ronan) and her adoptive (?) father Erik Heller (played by Eric Bana) exiting the snowy and isolated wilderness of their home and taking on the shadowy CIA operative, Marissa Wiegler (played by Cate Blanchette) who wants Erik dead and Hanna for herself for mysterious reasons.
It also has an amazing soundtrack by the Chemical Brothers, great action scenes, and it has an over arching fairytale motif, which I'm always a sucker for.
â ïž Mild blood effects, some painful looking strikes, various character deaths, and child endangerment all feature in this film. However, given its PG-13 rating, a majority of viewers are presumably able to handle this one. Still, be aware of these going in.
Sidenote: It's recently gotten a TV adaptation on Amazon TV, although I have not watched it, and do not know if Hanna and Sophie's romantic/semi-romantic relationship has transferred over.
A Simple Favor
A Simple Favor is a "black-comedy mystery thriller" centered entirely around the relationship between two mothers, the reclusive, rich, mysterious, and regal Emily (played by Blake Lively), and the local recently widowed but plucky mommy blogger, Stephanie (played by Anna Kendrick). When Emily suddenly goes missing, Stephanie takes it upon herself to find out what happened to her new best friend.
It's a fantastic and entertaining movie throughout, with fun, flawed and interesting characters. The relationship between the two female leads is also implied to be at least somewhat romantic in nature, and they even share a kiss.
â ïž The only major warnings I can think of is that the movie contains an instance of incest and one of the main plotlines revolves around child abuse, although both of these potentially triggering topics are not connected to each other, so there is thankfully no csa going on.
Edit: I legitimately forgot there was drug use in this movie until now. So, yeah, if that's a trigger, be careful of that.
I Am Mother
I became mildly obsessed with this movie when it came out. I Am Mother is a sci-fi film that centers entirely around a cast of two woman, and a female-adjacent robot who is brought to life on screen with absolutely amazing practical effects.
The plot is such, after an extinction-level event, a lone robot known only as Mother tasks herself with replenishing the human race via artifical means. She begins with the film's main protagonist, Daughter. Years go by as Mother raises her human child and the two prepare for Daughter's first sibling (a brother) to be born. However, on Daughter's 16th birthday, the arrival of an outsider known only as Woman shakes Daughter's entire world view. She begins to question Mother's very nature, as well as what's really going on outside the bunker she and her caretaker call home.
â ïž This movie features child endangerment and reference to child death.
Lilo and Stitch
When I decided to add a single Disney film to this list I initially thought it was going to be hard but almost immediately my brain went to Lilo and Stitch, and specifically about the relationship between Lilo and Nani.
On the surface, this film is about a lonely little girl accidentally adopting a fugitive alien creature as a "dog," but underneath that the story is also about two orphaned sisters and the older sister's attempts to not let social services tear them apart by stepping up as the younger sister's primary guardian. Despite its seemingly goofy premise, Lilo and Stitch has a very emotional and thoughtful center. It's little wonder how this movie managed to spawn an entire franchise.
Despite the franchise it spawned (or possibly because of it), I often find that Lilo and Stitch is overlooked and many people only remember it for the "little girl adopts an alien as a pet" portion of its plot, and I very rarely see it on people's top 10 Disney lists.
â ïž This movie could be potentially triggering to people who were separated from their siblings or other family members due to social service intervention. There's also a bit of child endangerment, including a scene where Lilo and Stitch both almost drown.
NausicaÀ and the Valley of the Wind
Unlike the above entry, I did struggle a little bit with picking a single Studio Ghibli film. Most media of the Ghibli catalogue have strong, well-written, unique, and interesting female leads so selecting just one seemed like quite the task.
However, I eventually settled on this particular film. In recent months, Princess NausicaÀ has become my absolute favorite Ghibli protagonist and I'm absolutely enchanted by the world she lives in.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world overun by giant insects and under threat of a toxic forest and its poisoness spores, NausicaÀ must try to protect the Valley of the Wind from invaders as she also tries to understand the science behind the toxic forest and attempts to bridge the gap between the insects and the humans.
For those who have never seen the film, I think NausicaÀ's personality can best be described as being similar to OT Luke Skywalker. Both are caring, compassionate, and gentle souls who are able to see the best in nearly anyone or anything. She's an absolutely enthralling protagonist and after rewatching the film again for the first time in well over a decade she has easily become one of my all time favorite protagonists.
Whenever I see people talk about Ghibli films, they rarely mention this one, and when they do mention it, it's often in passing. In my opinion it's a must watch.
â ïž This movie contains some blood, and the folks who either don't like insects or who have entomophobia may not appreciate the giant bugs running about throughout the movie. (Although most insects do not directly relate to real life bugs, and are fantasy creatures).
A Silent Voice
A Silent Voice is an animated movie adaptation of a manga of the same name. While I've never had the pleasure to read the manga, the movie is phenomenal. It covers topics such a bullying, living in the world with a disability, the desire for atonement, social anxiety, and depression in a well thought out manner that ties itself together through the progression of the relationship between its two leads, Shoya and Shouko. It's also beautifully animated. Although very popular among anime viewers, I've noticed that it's often overlooked by people who watch little to no anime. So I suppose this is me urging non-anime viewers to give this film a chance.
â ïž As mentioned above, the movie deals with bullying, anxiety, and depression (with this last one including suicidal thoughts and behaviour). If discussion of those topics are triggering to you, than you may want to proceed with caution or skip this movie all together.
In This Corner of The World
Another manga adaptation, this one taking place during WWII-era Japan. In This Corner of The World follows the life of a civilian Japanese woman, Suzu Urano, as she navigates simply living and her new marriage as the wartime invades nearly all aspects of everyday life. I think this movie is a good representation of what it must be like to be living as civilian in a country at war where the fight is sometimes fought on one's own soil. It was also an interesting look into pre-50s Japanese culture in my opinion. It's also beautifully animated featuring an art style I don't see often.
Despite it being well known among anime fans, I never really see it be brought up, even among said anime fans themselves.
Side note: I've seen many WWII dramas centering around civilians but they've almost always been about American or UK civilians. This was the first movie I'd seen that features the perspective of a Japanese civilain.
â ïž Features the death of a child and limb loss. There's also a disturbing scene featuring a victim of one of the atomic bombs near the end.
Wolf Children: Ame and Yuki
This film follows Hana, a Japan-native woman who fell in love with a magical shape-shifting wolf-man, and her trials with raising their children, who can also magically shape-shift into wolves, on her own. It's a very heartfelt movie about a mother's love and the struggles of doing right by your children when you have limited resources to actively guide and care for them. All the characters feel unique and alive in my opinion. Also, the animation is so good that my sister and I initially mistook it for a Ghibli film.
Again, like the previous two anime entries, I don't see it ever brought up outside of anime circles.
â ïž There's some child endangerment present in the film, although none of it is the fault of Hana as far as I can remember.
Roman Holiday
Roman Holiday is about the fictional Princess Ann (played by Audrey Hepburn), who while on a whirlwind tour of Europe, finally reaches her breaking point over having her entire life be one big schedule and all her words and actions being rehearsed. In the spur of the moment, she runs away in hopes of experiencing what life is like for other women. Unfortunately, she was previously given a sedative, meaning she doesn't get too far before it takes effect. Fortunately, she is found by the kind reporter Joe Bradley (played by Gregory Peck). Believing her to be drunk and unable to get an address from her (because she has none) he ends up taking her home for safety's sake and allows her to sleep off her suppose drunken stupor. The next day, he realizes who she is, and decides to take her on a fun sight seeing trip across Rome in hopes of getting the big scoop. Along the way, they begin to fall for each other.
This is my favorite black and white, old romance film. I think the relationship between the main characters is absolutely beautiful and I have a lot of fun watching it.
â ïž I'm not entirely sure what kind of warning this film would need. However, it was released in 1953, so values dissonance will probably be at play for many viewers to at least some extent. For example, early in the film Ann is given sedation drugs by her doctor for her behavior, something that is very unlikely to happen today. Also, Mr Bradley deciding to take Ann home to keep her safe rather than call the police or an ambulance is a very pre-90s decision in my opinion.

Stellan interview
"Stellan Skarsgard Is Finally Seizing the Spotlight"
https://www.thedailybeast.com/stellan-skarsgard-is-finally-seizing-the-spotlight
With roles in âDune,â the Star Wars series âAndor,â and âHope,â the character actor par excellence has never been more popular. He talks to Marlow Stern about his stellar career.
Few if any actors have built a resume as impressive as that of Stellan SkarsgÄrd.
After achieving teen-idol status in his native Swedenâeven releasing a pop singleâdue to the TV series Bombi Bitt, SkarsgĂ„rd transitioned to film acting. It was in the mid-â90s, with roles as a sadistic oil rig worker in Breaking the Waves, a fiery abolitionist in Amistad, and a haughty mathematician in Good Will Hunting, that the towering, stone-faced Swede would cross over into America, and establish himself as one of the finest character actors alive.
Heâs since maintained a healthy diet of what he calls âexperimental films,ïżœïżœ including a total of six with Danish auteur Lars von Trier, and Hollywood studio fare, such as the Pirates of the Caribbean and Mamma Mia! films, the Thor and Avengers superhero extravaganzas, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Cinderella. And right now, at the age of 69, SkarsgĂ„rd is at his most prolific. There was his Golden Globe-winning turn in HBOâs Chernobyl, the upcoming villain in Denis Villeneuveâs Dune, and a main role in the Disney+ Star Wars series Andor, which heâs filming right now in London. Oh, and heâs fathered eight children, including the actors Alexander, Gustaf, Bill, Sam, and Valter.
âThereâs no competition, really,â the elder SkarsgĂ„rd tells me of his talented brood. âThereâs some joking competition at the dinner table, but I know theyâre better than me, so Iâve given up.â
SkarsgĂ„rdâs latest is the Norwegian drama Hope. Directed by Maria SĂždahl, the wife of his frequent collaborator Hans Petter Moland, it is a heartrending autobiographical film about a long-married couple, Anja (Andrea BrĂŠin Hovig) and her theater-director husband Tomas (SkarsgĂ„rd), whose atrophying bond is put to the test when Anja develops terminal brain cancer. As they fight for Anjaâs survival, the two reevaluate how their relationship went off-course, and why they fell in love in the first place. (The U.S. remake rights were quickly snapped up by Nicole Kidman and Amazon Studios.)
Anne Frankâs Stepsister: How Trump Reminds Me of HitlerNEVER AGAINMarlow Stern
In a wide-ranging conversation, SkarsgÄrd opened up to The Daily Beast about his many great films, the controversy surrounding pal Lars von Trier, being a nudist, and much more.
How have you been passing the time during the pandemic?
In different ways. The first half of the year I was at our summer house on an island outside of Stockholm, and all my kidsâwho were also actors, most of them, and they werenât working eitherâwere all out there in two houses eating dinners together, having a good time, and seeing the spring inch-by-inch, everything grew, which you never get time to do otherwise. But this job Iâm doing here now [in London], I was supposed to fly back and forth from Stockholm because Iâm shooting this Star Wars series called Andor, and it would have been very convenient because itâs only a two-hour flight, but because of the quarantine Iâve been stuck here. For more than a month Iâve been alone in a hotel room staring into the wall.
Speaking of the SkarsgĂ„rd household, I read a quote from your son Alexander who said that when he was a teenager, âDad was always walking around [without clothes] with a glass of red wine in his hand.â Was that your vibe during the pandemic?
Not this time! Is it the wine that worries you? [Laughs]
Did the stress of the pandemic make you feel less⊠free?
No, Iâm still taking off my clothes when I get home very oftenâand my kids also, some of them do. Itâs not a big thing. Weâre Swedes! And we have no God that says we canât show our body parts.
What about it do you just find so liberating? I donât go the full monty but when I go home, I do tend to take off my pants and let loose a little bit, because it is constricting.
If itâs warm enough you donât need clothes, right? Unless youâre ashamed of your bodyâor taught to be ashamed of certain body parts. For me, itâs all upbringing. Itâs cultural. Some cultures donât care about what part of the body you show, and some cultures are very precious, and some cultures the women canât show their faces. Â
Iâm curious what life was like in the SkarsgĂ„rd household, because youâve helped produce so many talented kids. Alexander described it as âbohemian,â similar to what you described during the pandemic, filled with dinner parties and a free-flowing atmosphere.
Itâs always been a very open house, and the kidsâ friends, itâs been easier to sometimes be in our house than their housesâespecially during puberty, when conflicts ariseâbecause weâre very relaxed and non-judgmental in our family. Itâs really, truly pleasant. And my kids are more like pals to me. Thereâs no hierarchical relationship at all. Itâs very nice. We just have fun!
Itâs a very talentedâand frankly, attractiveâfamily. How did this happen? Â
How did I make kids that look so good? [Laughs]
Is that something youâre particularly proud of? Â
[Laughs] Well, the looks I donât care so much about, but Iâve had two beautiful wivesâand very smart wivesâand thatâs helped a lot. Iâm not going to take much credit for anything. But what Iâm proud of is, when I hear from other people in the business about Gustaf or Sam or Bill or Valter or Alexander, I hear that somebody worked with them and they were really nice on the set and totally cool with everybody, and how no matter what menial job anyone had on the set they were nice to them, then Iâm proud. If they win awards itâs secondary to that, because that is a lottery anyway. Awards are sort of like reality shows.
They really are a popularity contest. Letâs talk about Hope. It could have very well been called Grief.
I thought it sounded bland to begin with, but in fact the film is about hopeâand about love. Itâs not a normal cancer film where itâs all about beating the cancer or fighting against it, but itâs about someone who gets a death sentence in a family situation with a lot of kids, like I have, and everything that was petrified in the relationship floats up again. Itâs about how they rejuvenate their relationship, and through those horrible circumstances, find love again.
Thereâs one very powerful scene in the film that really encapsulates many elements and themes that it explores, and itâs the sex scene between you and your wife. It manages to capture the joy of reconnecting as well as the grief youâre experiencing.
I think itâs a great scene, because it starts beautifullyâvery gentlyâand it looks like itâs going to be really nice for both of them, and then her anxiety sets in, and things start to bad. And it does go bad pretty fast.
On another level, Iâm an American and we donât see sex very often in movies. And when we do, we donât see it in the service of such complicated emotions.
With sex in film, itâs difficult, because sex is something that feels fantastic when you do it, and it looks ridiculous when you watch. Those humping movements like a dog? Itâs not sexy at all! So, you canât do a sex scene that looks like it feels, so they always have to be about something else. The sex scenes I had with Emily Watson in Breaking the Waves, it was about her curiosity, because she discovered her first penis, she discovered sexuality, and it was totally about the relationship. The sex was just there. And in this film, the scene is not really about sex but about something else. I donât think Iâve ever seen a sex scene that looks like it feels, and that can convey that beautiful thing that sex can be.
Really, in America, we get almost no sex scenes in movies. And itâs 2021.
Itâs very strange. Itâs not as bad as during the Hays Code, when you couldnât let the lips meet for more than one second.
You just had a train going into a tunnel.
[Laughs] Yes, that very subtle image. But in America, you have a strong, strong tradition of bigotry or fear of sexuality. Only two years ago, in nine states in America, it was still illegal to have sex outside of marriage, and my American friends have told me that when they were growing up, it was even regulated how they could have sexâyou couldnât have oral sex or anal sexâso it is so ingrained in American culture that peopleâs sexuality is not a private thing, but something that everybody should interfere with.
Hope is also an exploration of mortality. Is that something you think about often?Â
Iâve never been that interested in it. Iâve always been aware of it. Itâs the only thing you know in lifeâyouâre gonna fucking die. But already many years ago, I thought Iâd had such a fantastic life that it would only be fair that I died, because Iâve already lived more than most people. So, I donât feel any injustice in death. And Iâm not afraid of death because Iâm not religious, so I donât have to worry about whether Iâm going to end up in hell or heaven. But I have small children still, my youngest is 8, and Iâm no spring chicken anymore, so I think about how I should stick around for at least another ten years until everything is set.
I read that youâd studied a bunch of religions in the wake of 9/11 and reached the conclusion that it was all sort of bunk.
I grew up with total freedom of religionâmy parents werenât religious, though my grandmother was very religious. It was taught to me without judgment, and it was a very tolerant upbringing I had. But I hadnât read the Bible. And after 9/11, when I saw George W. Bush standing in front of TV cameras and claiming that God had put him there, I thought maybe it was time to read what they actually believed in. So, I read the Quran and I read the Bible. There are some fantastic storiesâas fiction, itâs sometimes brilliant and sometimes boringâbut the God in both the Quran and the Bible, thereâs only one reason to really worship them, and that is fear. Itâs a power that says, âIf you donât worship, youâre going to dieâand not only die, but burn in eternity.â Itâs a bit autocratic and dictatorial, I would say. Itâs very hard for me to worship something under threat.
And if God put George W. Bush in the White House, then God has a very cruel sense of humor.
[Laughs] Yeah, he does. And the latest president said the same thing.
But he doesnât believe in God. He only believes in himself.
Yeah. I think that if he had more appreciation from the liberals in America, he would have just as well gone populist-liberal.
I think so too. You know, I read that your Dogville co-star Nicole Kidman already picked up the remake rights to Hope for Amazon.
Sheâs picked up the remake rights, yeah.
Both you and your son Alexander have shared some pretty intense scenes with Nicole. Thereâs that dramatic scene in Big Little Lies where Nicole hits your son in the dick, and it almost seemed to me like payback for what you put her through in Dogville.
[Laughs] Yeah, Iâve done two films with her and Alexander just finished doing The Northman with her. But sheâs lovely. I really like her. Sheâs so cool.
At least it was a prosthetic and not Alexanderâs real thing.
Yeah⊠coward! [Laughs]
I gotta say, between Chernobyl, Hope, Dune, a Star Wars series, and even a Simpsons cameo as yourself, how does it feel to be at your most prolific at 69?
Iâm just working! Iâm doing my job and having fun doing it. Iâve been lucky and a lot of good projects have emerged. It goes up and down, you know, throughout life. And I donât think I could have a better life than Iâve had. I donât have any regrets. And I donât have to be the star or be in something very successful, I just have to have fun.
Nice. Do you feel youâre underrated? I think youâre someone whoâs so consistently great in everything that it can almost be taken for granted how great you are. I know you won a Golden Globe recently, and that was long overdue, even if itâs mostly bullshit.
I donât know! I can tell you: itâs much better to be underrated than overrated. So, Iâm very comfortable if I am underrated. But Iâm a Swede with an accentâor most of the time I have an accentâand for being a Swede with an accent, I have been extremely successful internationally, so I canât complain. When it comes to the big studio movies, and Iâve been in four or five gigantic franchises that have paid a lot of bills for me, their concerns are financial, and Iâm not a ticket-seller. Iâm a solid fucking actor, and Iâd rather be an actor than a star. Â
It gives you the mobility.
Exactly. The freedom I have. I can easily do small, experimental films and strange stuffâfilms that could ruin another actorâs careerâso Iâm in a good position.
I wanted to ask you about Breaking the Waves, because itâs the 25th anniversary this year and I consider it a masterful film. And it was Emily Watsonâs first film, which is just extraordinary. How did you two establish such strong chemistry?
Sheâs British, which means she comes from a rather prudish society too, and to take on a role with an obscure Danish directorâwho wasnât that famous at the timeâand to take on a role with such explicit sex and nudity took enormous courage, but she was fantastic. My job was to love her, and that felt easy, but I think that she felt loved, and I think that she felt secure, which is essential for being able to do anything courageous. But sheâs such a brilliant, talented, wonderful woman. I finally got to work with her again in Chernobyl. I mean, you just have to look at her and everything comes.
Thereâs this longstanding debate over whether Breaking the Waves is misogynistic or not, and I personally find it to be a misreading of the film. Iâve always thought of it as a biblical allegory of sorts about a desperate woman navigating a deeply sexist world.
Absolutely. Lars doesnât have that in him. Those fantastic female roles that he has written, if you want to defend women in film, youâve really got to take care of him because he writes the best roles for them. Those roles are very much him, and he definitely doesnât have a negative attitude toward women. He loves them. Thereâs a plague of labeling peopleânot for what theyâre really saying, but for what they appear to say. He was stamped as a misogynist and then he made a bad joke about Hitler at Cannes, and everyone stamped him as a Nazi, which is the furthest thing from what he is. Â
Stellan Skarsgard and Emily Watson in Breaking the Waves
You stamp people as a âracist,â a âfascist,â a âcommunist,â I mean this fucking stamping is as smart as QAnon. Itâs frightening. The fantastic thing about mankind is that weâre not one thing. Weâre all capable of the most brutal and horrible crimes and weâre all capable of love. We do good things and we do bad things. There are nuances. The way of seeing people as âgoodâ or âbadâ guys is forcing something upon humanity that is really dangerous, because when you say someone is the âbadâ guy then youâre saying you are the âgoodâ guy, and itâs forcing you to not look at your own flaws.
Iâm a huge fan of Larsâ films but I think one thing thatâs really colored peopleâs opinion of him are the allegations that Bjork made against him on Dancer in the Dark. You didnât have the biggest role in that film, but is it something you witnessed?
Iâve never seen him do anything like that. Itâs not him. And if you talk to any of the other women who have worked with him over and over again, you will not get those kinds of accusations. But the Bjork and Lars conflict was enormous during the shoot, and it had very little to do with #MeToo. Lars, like all directors, in the end is a control freak, and Bjork has controlled everything in her careerâfrom the music, to the costumes, to the way she soundsâand if two control freaks try to make a film, there will be conflicts. I got phone calls from Lars during the shoot where he was in tears. She left the set several times, and it had nothing to do with sexuality. She tore up her clothes. They had a very difficult relationship. But youâve gotta pick your toxic males. You canât put a âtoxic maleâ label on everybody, otherwise it will be watered down, that label.
Iâm so excited for Dune. What can you tell me about it? Denis Villeneuve said that your Baron Vladimir Harkonnen is different from the comics or the David Lynch film in that heâs not as much of a caricature but a calmer, more sinister presence.
The thing about it, and why Iâm looking forward to this film as well, is because itâs Denis Villeneuve. Whatever he does, he creates an atmosphere that is dense, that you can touch, and youâre just sucked into it. Youâre never boredâeven if he does long, slow takes. The atmosphere builds up, and youâre in his universe. I think it will be the same with this one. Heâs lovely to work with, and a beautiful man. I did eight or ten days on the movie, so my character doesnât show up for too much, but his presence will be felt. Heâs such a frightening presence where even if he doesnât say anything, I think youâll be afraid of him. And Iâm extremely fat. I had eight hours in the makeup chair every day. And in some scenes, I look very tall because I levitate. Youâre going to have a lot of fun with it.
The whole HBO Max day-and-date thing is weird, and I hope as many people as possible get to see the film on the big screen. Â
Oh, definitely. I think they made a deal with AT&Tâwhich owns Time Warner, which owns HBO, which owns my phoneâthat they cut a four-week deal where itâll be just for the theaters, but Iâm not sure. That could change.
I also feel culturally obligated to ask you about Andor, the upcoming Star Wars series youâre in. Whatâs that about, and who do you play in it?
As you know, theyâll shoot me if I say anything! I canât even get a proper script. Itâs printed on red paper so I canât make any copies of it, itâs ridiculous! Of course Iâve seen all the Star Wars films, because Iâve had children in the â80s, and the â90s, and the 2000s, and the 2010s. Iâve had children in five decades, which means youâve seen all the Star Wars filmsâand seen all the toys as well. But when I saw Rogue One, it had much more atmosphere and seemed a little more matureâand that was Tony Gilroy, whoâs the showrunner on this one. So, hopefully this one will be a little more than little plastic people falling over.
Was a part of the motivation to do Andor to look really cool to your kids?
I do think like that sometimes! Iâll go and do a childrenâs movie for that reason. But also, Iâm not the most mature person myself, so who doesnât want to go and fly a spaceship?
Plus, now you can give your kids action figures of yourself and say, âPlay with me.â
Fuck yeah. Go play with dad. Donât disturb him! Go play with him! [Laughs] Â Â
Iâm not the most mature person myself, so who doesnât want to go and fly a spaceship?
OK, this is kind of a silly question, but do you have a favorite movie death of yours? My favorite has to be in Deep Blue Sea, because in that one you get your arm ripped off by a shark, and then the shark uses your body as a battering ram to destroy this underwater facility.
I would say that is probably, in terms of inventiveness, my favorite one too. It was Renny Harlin. Yeah. I like it! Fortunately, I didnât have to spend that much time on that stretcherâit was a doll. But it looked really cool! And the sharks werenât CGI back then. It was mechanical sharks, and they were pretty dangerous. The little boy in me was very excited.
Another movie of yours that I love, for entirely different reasons than some of these other ones weâve discussed, is Mamma Mia! Is it basically a vacation filming these? I imagine the cast parties are a lot of fun, because it seems like you all are having a ball.
Well, it is. Iâm not a singer and Iâm not a dancer so I was scared stiff, but the only way to make it workâbecause itâs not much of a storyâis that we had fun doing it, because that joy is contagious to the audience. And we really had fun. It was very relaxed in Greece there on the beaches, and the parties we had there were very good too. It was a nice bunch of people to hang with.
When the cast of Mamma Mia! goes wild in Greece, who is the one that parties the hardest? Whoâs the VIP?
It depends what you mean by partying! I usually get pretty drunk. Down there, Colin [Firth] and I were pretty good at it. And at those parties, we also had 50 dancers in their twenties, and they had much more stamina.
I have to ask: Will the gang get back together for a third one?
I donât know! It took 10 years between number one and number two, so if it takes another ten years, I donât know. Some of us may just be there in urns, with our ashes!
You released a pop single in the â60s, right?
Yes. When I was 16, I became extremely famous in Sweden. We had one TV channel back then and I did this TV series, and it was like being a rock star. But it meant also that all kinds of shady people thought they could make money off me. So, this guy calls me from Stockholm and says, âStellan, can you sing?â And I said, âNo.â And he said, âWell, try it!â And then I hear this guitar on the other end of the line, I go, âAhh!â and then he goes, âPerfect! Come over to Stockholm.â I went to this very shady studio in the suburbs and we recorded it, and then the guy who was running the project said, âI listened to the tape now, and I think itâs better if I sing and you speak on the record.â So, I donât sing on the record. But there were very cruel headlines in Sweden. One paper had a headline that read, âStellan SkarsgĂ„rd, who we loved on this TV series, we donât like anymore.â
Thatâs so mean! In addition to Breaking the Waves, another film that really raised your profile in the United States was Good Will Huntingâwhich holds up remarkably well. Some of my favorite scenes in that film are the ones where you and Robin Williams are jousting. And I know heâs a wild card, so what was it like shooting those?
He really is a wild card because anything can come out of him, and he can say anything and do anything, and he has this urge to do it because he has these three parallel brains that are constantly working on finding something funny or interesting. Sometimes, even when we would do ten takes and everybody would be happy with them, heâd say, âI have to get something out of my body,â so we would do one extra for that. You didnât know what youâd experience when the camera would start rollingâyou just had to dance with it. And it was fantastic. He was such a lovely man and had no ego. He was just a volcano of creativity and ideas.
Do you ever think about your legacy? You not only have a bunch of talented children but also have amassed such a strong body of work.
The thing is with legacy: you wonât be able to enjoy it, so just forget it. No, I donât. And it doesnât matter. If youâre extremely successful, it takes a decade and youâre gone from peopleâs minds. You can only hope that your children remember you for a couple of years, at least!
Well, theyâll have the Star Wars toys, at least.
Theyâll have the toys! Thatâs right. [Laughs]

Spoilers Ahead!
Hi, fellow bored humans! Today is another day to set aside our real-life problems and overthink matters about fictional situations. Because why not? Mochijun-Sensei can make us do that. So, last time I made a post questioning Misha's knowledge of Vani's self-hypnotism. So before anything else, I want to thank you guys who took the time to read, liked, and replied to that post. It is fun to read ideas that even I can not think about.
Grab a cup of coffee and be prepared for a long-ass non-sense.
I am calling human Vanitas = Vani, and Luna = Luna. The pronoun I use is "she" because I would not confuse myself. I know Luna said she is an enby so, do not fight me.
Today, I want to talk about Luna and her death. I know that we have too little information in our hands right now, but my brain cells can still assume something based on what we have. This thought came about with the premise that Luna is an Archiviste.
I can't think of anything that happened to them "that day", but I have a theory of why Vani killed Luna. To make things clear, I will summarize my assumptions and list them down. I made an explanation of each point. Supposedly, those would come first but I didn't expect it to be so long, that's why I decided to just put it at the end. You could ignore it if you want. Check it out if you are curious.
Luna is an Archiviste
Vani is protecting memory from his early childhood
Vani casts the hypnotism while/after he was training to be a chasseur but before Luna's death
Luna bit Vani the day she died
Do you see where I'm going with this?
Here is the idea: I think Vani killed Luna because she forced herself to drink Vani's blood for whatever reason and the self-hypnotism activated. Sound farfetched? Because it is, but I'll show you why I thought it this way.
This is my one and only proof. The eyes are almost the same, right? See, I told you I could make a long-ass post just from two panels. The left one is from the Bal-Masque arc before Vani made a scene. The right one is before Vani and Noe's death fight. I believe that Vani's hypnotism is triggered in both pictures. I actually hesitated if I should do this since Mochijun-Sensei really loves including similarities in the story. You see, Astolfo and Misha made the same eye. But all three of them have the same eyes the moment they thought about why they would kill a vampire.
Vani - to not allow anyone to steal his memory
Astolfo - because vampires shouldn't even exist
Misha - Noe didn't drink Vani's blood.
So yeah, whatever, I'll go ahead and write this one. Vani would be the main focus of this thing.
1. The way Vani's hallucination phrased this is interesting. We know Vani's father died protecting him. What about Luna? If Vani killed Luna intentionally or because of hate, she did not die "because" of Vani. Vani killed her. There's a difference between the two. Behind all that facade that Vani is showing, he's kind. He's not someone who could just kill anyone without any reason when he's in the right mind. Especially if that someone is the one who became his guardian and is helping him to find a cure to make his body normal. Initially, I thought that Luna had gone wild and reach the point of no return. That's why Vani had no other choice. Though if this is the reason, Luna still did not die because of Vani. Now, this phrase would only be right if Luna died protecting Vani or if something happened to Vani. How could this happen if she was killed by the one she's protecting. So, what if, instead of Luna going wild, Vani is the one breaking down. Thus, Luna had really no choice but to make Vani her kin. If she's an archiviste and Vani already casted the hypnotism. It would be triggered and so he had no choice but to kill Luna.
"You give yourself someone to protect that's why you're weak." -Vani to Jeanne
If Luna didn't save Vani and Misha, she might still be alive. If she chose to abandon or kill Vani (when Vani loses his mind), she might still be alive. But Luna chose to save him by making him her kin. She handicapped herself by choosing to protect Vani and she died by doing so.
2. Maybe Luna doesn't want to use this method because it involves blood drinking to leave her mark. If she's an Archiviste, perhaps her reason is the same as Noe does not drink blood "She doesn't want to look at anyone's memory without permission".
3.Vani was never an honest and straightforward guy. If there is someone/thing he wants to protect he wouldn't say it outright. Sometimes we would go full on beast mode, just to hide his real agenda. It already happened a lot (reread the manga for examples). So maybe the reason he strongly disagrees is that he knows that once Luna tries to bit her he would lose his mind and try to kill her.
4. This is just so heartbreaking. Look at how he cried. I think this is not a cry of relief. Vani is crying out of frustration. It's not because he wanted to kill Noe. For me, it's like Vani is saying "I killed Luna, why can't I kill now." I mean, he realized that this ordeal could be solved without killing the other party. But why didn't it happened before?
This is just a half baked theory so of course there are still things that could negate these panels:
If Luna is talking with Vani here, she makes him her kin even before dying. Since everything is so calm. Though I would ignore reality and think that Luna is talking with Misha here. I think that Misha became her kin first since he is breaking down first.
The flashback of Misha shouting at Vani, maybe this is just hallucinations. But if this is true, it means that they spent some time together after Luna's death. And yeah, all of this would be meaningless.
Explanation of each point
1. Luna is an Archiviste. The theory is already out there, so I wouldn't explain it anymore.
2. Vani is protecting memory from his early childhood & 3. Vani casts the hypnotism while/after he was training to be a chasseur but before Luna's death. Going back to my previous post, I mentioned that it is strange for Misha to know that Vani hypnotized himself if Luna is the one who begged Vani to not let anyone take his memory on her deathbed because:
a. The timeline doesn't coincide. The chance that Misha and Vani separated "that day" which is I believe the same day as Luna's death is high. So, there's no way Misha could know.
b. Misha forgot what happened "that day". However, it's not like Vani doesn't want Misha to remember. I don't know but I feel like everything would be civil if Misha didn't mention that he wants to revive Luna. That is the moment everything went a wrong turn.
It is likely that Luna already asked Vani days before "that day" and her death. The problem is if the three are together "why did she only ask Vani and not Misha?". Maybe, Luna and Vani have a shady secret that they don't share with Misha as he's too young. However, if the secret has something to do with Luna, Vani won't even mention something relating to it to Misha, I mean the kid knows exactly the trigger of self-hypnotism. Maybe Luna is not the one who asked Vani. I believe that someone already asked Vani before he entered the church to train as a chasseur. But "who" asked Vani is not my problem today it is "when".
So in short, I suppose that the memory Vani is protecting is something that only he knows at the moment, and it did not happen recently but goes way back in his early childhood. As retracexcviii pointed out, it looks like that the self-hypnotism technique Vani used is the same as what the chasseurs. So, Vani knows this technique way back before he became a lab rat.
Continuing on...
Don't judge but I wasted a considerable amount of time digging information about Vani's childhood (yup, I don't have a life outside). And I found nothing concrete that could help, however, as I said, I could make something out of what we have. So here we go.
In Vani's delirium due to high fever he finally opens up and we had a peak of his life before everything. There's nothing much here, just a simple story, but let's overanalyze this:
a. In the era theyâre living in, vampires are not allowed to attack humans. People are even treating them as folklore or old people's tall tales. Thus, random vampire attacks are seldom. The attacks that we heard are from the cursed ones (e.g., Amelia and Thomas) or harboring resentment (I think this is why the vampires attacked Astolfoâs family). Well, the attack on Vani and co. may be a special case. Vani mentioned that chasseurs are hunting "dangerous" types of vampires that are rampaging in the human world. So, there may be a miscreant group of vampires somewhere that hates peace or being suppressed by humans. Right, Misha's mother was also killed by a vampire.
b. When Misha asked what's a band of traveling players then Luna answered that it's a bit like a circus. Vani answered that "It was nothing like...that formal". He hesitated for a moment, meaning, he wanted to say something different first, but he changed his mind. Or maybe he just can't find the right word. I know that someone already mentioned this, but did you know that according to Wikipedia "Charlatan is a seller of medicines who might advertise his presence with music and an outdoor stage show." Now that's another thing to add to Vani and Naenia's parallel.
c. Vani thinks that his father doesn't like it there very much. So, why stay even if his wife is dead? Even if Vani's father could not go back to his family, he could still opt to cut ties with the band and settle down somewhere. He's a doctor, it's not like they would be helpless if they leave. Travelling is not a safe choice if you think about it. Perhaps, he stayed in the memory of his wife? Or are there other reasons?
d. This guy didn't just come to Altus ones before. "No matter when I visit" he already visited during different periods. The times he possibly could go in Altus is before his father's death and after Luna's death. Maybe Luna's going in secretly for whatever reason. I just want to drop it here because it's interesting to take note of.
e. I'm not sure if I should include this since it may be Luna's influence, but Vani knows way too much about vampires and also the babel incident. Also, Ruthven's statement just gives me a weird feeling. Does it mean "You an average human are running around doing ridiculous things, so tell me about 'yourself', kin of the blue moon vampire"? Or "without the context of being the kin of the blue moon vampire, tell about yourself?" I think it is the latter meaning.
There's nothing important here that proves Vani's childhood should be kept as a secret. But this will do for now, I just want to establish that Vani is more than just kin to the Blue Moon Vampire. His childhood, his father, family, and that traveling players are also suspicious. (Why the hell do I find everyone in this series suspicious?!? oh, except Amelia and Riche).
4. Luna bit Vani the day she died. I can't come up with anything that happened "that day". Did Luna has gone wild? Did someone attack them? Did Vani and Misha lose their mind as an effect of that weird doctor's experiment? There's really nothing but I think that whatever happened "that day" led to Luna's leaving no choice but to drink Vani's blood, or to make Vani her kin. There has no explicit explanation of how you make one your kin, but I'm sure drinking blood is included in the process. They would only gain a mark if they were bitten.
I'm actually not done yet. I still have plenty to say, but this should end here now. This is already too long for me to handle. Does this make sense? Or is it confusing? Don't hesitate to correct me if I'm wrong or tell me whatever you want to say.
So, if what Vani is saying is true, why do you think he killed Luna?
See ya' later folks!
Note: I wrote this to indulge my over-thinking self. This is just a random theory, thoughts, assumptions, and/or head-canons. Thank you for taking the time to read and understanding if I made any mistakes or post whatever it is you donât agree on.

===============================
SUMMARY: Zimâs trial was a victory for Irken society, their biggest thorn finally defeated for good. Zimâs soul reflects on his life and actions from the great beyond.Â
When a second chance presents itself; Will he achieve his happy ending or wind up like he did before? Fighting against impossible odds, unraveling mysteries and discovering what lies beneath. Secrets will be revealed. What truth awaits?
===============================
NOTES:Â
-Prazr is supposed to be slow burn endgame pairing.
-No Dib/mission to invade Earth (I donât plan on exploring it) in this fic, besides small past references.Â
-Instead it will be focused more on Irk and her history/society. Like Zimâs Academy/elite days.
-Itâs been years since Iâve wrote a proper story, so please donât mind the writing if itâs a bit weird in some places. Iâve had this plot stuck in my head for about a year. Inspired by my obsessed with Isekai/reincarnation/do-over manga and fics.
-If others want to use this as a base for their own story or art, thatâs fine. Just tag me, Iâd love to see what you do!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(The Abyss: Undetermined time after The Trial)
Zim floated endlessly in darkness, surrounded only by a feeling of a bygone age.
His body, the only thing visible as far as the eye could see. Was as bare as the day he was born, not even a PAK attached.Â
Any Irken caught like this would be ridiculed for such degeneracy. Yet, he could not muster much shame. Only hugging his knees tighter to his chest.
He had nothing to show the passage of time. Only a half remembered feeling of what it was to be alive. Left alone in the Abyss with only his own thoughts and distant memories as company.
How long had he been here? Minutes, cycles...Eons?
Was this what death truly felt like? All alone and tormented by his life on replay.
Forever wondering what had went wrong.
He had been angry at first. Enraged at the thoughts of his trial and execution.
How dare they do this to him, to ZIM! He hadn't done anything to deserve this!
The pain of PAK removal was one of the few things still fresh in his mind.
He had cursed the hoomans and their filthy planet, the dib-beast for always interfering in his plans. As well as a long list of others for his fate. Just about anyone and everyone he could remember. No matter how insignificant they had played a role in his life.
His rage had burned without an end in sight. Who had he angered to endure such disgrace! Who did they think they were to put him through such humiliation?Â
The names had slipped past his lips before he could stop them.
The Almighty Tallest.
His tirade had halted immediately. Appalled at his renegade of a mouth.
What traitorous thoughts!Â
The propaganda and teachings of the Empire still deeply ingrained within his mind.
Yet, the more he had thought about them, the more his rage started to burn again. Turning into a blaze of discontent and resentment.
The Tallest had used him!
They were no more innocent then he!
Just as the Empire had designed them to. Zim had only been doing what any Irken soldier would've done...right? They were taught to love destruction and mayhem. How could he ever be the one in the wrong? Was not that, the purpose the Control Brains gave them?
He was only doing his duty.
What right did they have to punish him then!
Was not it the Tallest who had forced him to pilot during Operation Impending Doom?Â
They hadnât even asked what had caused the disaster. Why he had done what he did. Not that he couldâve answered them. Even now, that time is nothing but a distant haze at best.Â
Still, they had never tried to find out what had went wrong. Only sending him to suffer on Foodcourtia under the sadistic Sizz-Lorr.
Did they like seeing him in pain? Did they enjoy seeing him unable to fight against them, even when they continued to ridicule him. Pushing him ever closer to his breaking point?
Like when they had sent him to that treacherous death-world known as Urth.
No! His body had shook in anger.
No, no.Â
The truth was that they had sent him into the deep recess of space, hoping he would die.
He had turned a blind eye to all their misdeeds against him.Â
For so long...too long, he realizes now.Â
Letting his feelings blind him. Everything had just felt so...so right with them. He had clung to a smeethood friendship. To long buried feelings that he swore they shared, but could not speak of.Â
Had he really been that delusional?
They had been friends once, close ones. It had been an instant connection. One he thought would last the test of time. Since their days in the Academy, they had spent practically every waking moment by each otherâs sides. Years spent studying, training and completing assignments together. Even graduated as elites with one another. Â
He had cared about them, more than he could ever put into words. He had thought they had cared about him too.
Maybe they had one point...Until their love of status won out.
Zim had always known about their dreams of grandeur. But, had ignored it. Convincing himself, that no matter what, they would never abandon him. That they still cared for him...even if only a little.
Yet, time and time again he was proven wrong.Â
Unwilling to accept the truth. His own delusions gladly filling in the blanks. They were ultimately the same as him, obviously. Only doing what the Empire wanted. What the Control Brains wanted.Â
This was all an...act...There was no way they actually hated him. It was...a test! A test of his faith, of his will...of his love. No matter what, he couldnât fail. He needed to prove himself to them. Maybe then...
What a pitiful creature he had been.
So much so, he had even done something as primitive as pray to the ancient Gods. Hoping that one day...
He really was delusional. The crazed mess everyone believed him to be.
After all, what Irken in their right mind, would ever want to be seen with such a tiny smaller?Â
Yet, in the end he had still loved them. Even now his cardiac-spooch aches for them.
They had hurt him, but he had hurt them too. He hates them, he loves them, he hates them, he loves them...
He doesnât know what to think about them anymore.
After some time, his anger had eventually moved on.Â
To the only ones left.
The Control Brains.
The machines who claimed to control everything. If they were truly such omnipotent beings, then surely they had to have known his PAK was defective! They dictated everything about Irken lives after all, from what they wore, to their careers and everything in-between.Â
Then why was only he to blame!
Were not they the ones that programed him this way!
If he had been such a threat to the empire, if his PAK had so many errors, then why didn't they fix it!
Why had he been the only one to be punished!
If he was so broken, then why couldn't they have just fixed him!
âŠand just like that, the flames had been snuffed out. He had been quiet for a few minutes...hours...or maybe even days. Dwelling only on that single thought alone.
A sob had left him as the realization came crashing down.
Only then had he finally blame himself. A deep well of shame had quickly bubbling within him.
Over two hundred cycles, years devoted to serving the Armada. Bowing to the strict rules of the Empire and whims of his Tallest. Placing his loyalty to Irk above all else. Rejecting his natural inclinations. Forever trying to hid his perceived weaknesses.
It all amounted to what exactly?
He was defective. A mistake. A problem to be remedied and swept under a rug to be forgotten.
He was only capable of needlessly destroying everything in his path, even himself.
Forever trying to be something he wasn't.
While Silently pleading, hoping beyond hope someone would give him the attention...the love that he so desired. His peers would recognize him and appreciate him.
Irk was sure to celebrate his death for cycles to come.
It's not that he hadn't tried to control his urges. He had tried, he really did. To be the perfect soldier, to be the prime Irken example.
But, at his core, that not who he was. Despite how much he had tried to make himself to be so.
Luck was as much his friend as it was his enemy.
In a society were one was not to step out of line, not to break any mold, to do only what they were told. Someone like him, could only double down. Hoping that maybe this time something would go right. If only he kept trying it wouldn't be considered failure. Something would have to work eventually, right? He hadn't been kicked out of the collective yet. So that meant there was still hope.
What a fool he had been.Â
Chaos incarnate many called him. The name Zim was synonymous with destruction and failure. He had no glory, no honor. He was nothing but a devil to his own people, an omen of their death.
By the Gods, if he could just go back!Â
His hands clench at the thought.
Would things be different? Could he make different choices.Â
Even if his loyalty came into question? If he walked a different road then that of the perfect little Irken.Â
Would he even be capable of such a thing?
He doesnât know.
If only he had tried a little hard to control himself. If he could just be given another chance to prove himself. If to no one else, but to him. If he could just have a chance to live life how he truly wanted.
If only he could start over. If only...
A humorless laugh leaves him. Who would even give him the time of day? To him of all Irken?
As if.
His Empire had denounced him. His people had forsaken him. He had nothing left.
Magenta eyes stare blankly into the expansive darkness. They close as he buries his face into his knees, lamenting his fate.
Truly this couldn't have been a more fitting punishment for someone as despicable as him.

Some Preliminary thoughts on MLP Generation 5
I was considering waiting for a Trailer before speaking on this. I assume one will probably come out any day now, heck the way things are coming out I probably won't be surprised if I end up sort of jinxing things and we get our first trailer smack-dab in the middle of tomorrow or something. But I do want to sort of give my current thoughts heading into G5. As we've gotten alot more tidbits then the rather vague details from the first few months since our first look at the new characters back in Feburary. If we do get a trailer, depending what is shown. Maybe I'll make a follow-up post.
I will first say that I do plan on giving both the movie and series a shot, none of the concerns that I express in this post will make me hesitate in at least checking how the movie and show goes on it's own merits. There is a possibility the movie and/or show ends up being fun despite the underlying concerns I'm about to say. Without further adieu, I'll begin.
((More thoughts after the break))
We are now almost 80 days from the premiere of G5. And most information up until recently have been fairly vague on what exactly is the G5 world. With a brand new cast, and even some vastly different design from the G4 pony design we knew it feels like at least from a visual standpoint that this is supposed to be an entirely new generation. The same way G1 or G3 is not the same universe as G4. However, both some vague information and recent information sort of dropped the bombshell that no, G5 is actually supposed to be in the same world that the G4 Equestria is. Which lets get to the general point of this:
Even if the G4 world that we loved in Friendship is Magic is sort of now this ancient past in which for at least thousands of years there was harmony between all the pony races and non-ponies alike as shown in the future of The Last Problem until perhaps some sort of slow collapse later on happened (Presumably long, long, LOOOOOONG after assumingly everyone of the Main 6 sans Twilight have died from old age). It... might be a bitter pill to swallow for any fan of G4 that loved the show's happy ending. Sure, at the very least it doesn't look like they're trying to say that at some point Twilight failed, as heck Sunny is probably sure to look at Twilight as this legendary hero to aspire to be like. But still, it just doesn't feel like a good look when while I get why G5 is having it's premise of Sunny and the others making the world a better place. Upon seeing the initial synopses of the show. It very much feels like it was Hasbro taking note of last year's George Floyd/BLM Protests. Which I will say is potentially a good direction. But it'd help if this was an entirely new universe that is having this divided world problem. Not a long time after G4 itself ended on the positive note on just about every notable species pony or non-pony alike are living in harmony where Sunny's goal had already basically been achieved.
I get the idea behind having G5 mentioned as the same world as G4. It's an attempt to have their cake and eat it too where they're trying quite a bit new and also try to keep many of the fans of G4 that proved to be a lightning in a bottle. It's a big truth that Friendship is Magic is going to be a hard act to follow even if G5 turns out great on it's own merits. Having an entirely new universe from Hasbro's perspective I also get have some risks. You toss away a world so many people love for one that the fans might find it hard to find an interest in flocking to like the previous one. At the same time though, taking G5 as the far future of G4 runs the risk of heavily feeling like everything Twilight and the Mane 6 did eventually fell to ruin and the ponies became divided again anyway despite the very finale showing they may have very well ended it for good. With even non-pony species part of the harmony that exists.
I guess the counterpoint may be that in if they must have G5 a follow-up in some way of G4. Then there must be some sort of conflict as otherwise the show would feel boring without many villains and/or adventures to save the day going on. The cost of G4's massive success is that no matter what direction they take G5, it's going to be a struggle for it to find the same footing. But what's worse: Making a new world which while it may potentially disinterest fans of G4 with a lack of familiar faces, it can have potential to grow in it's own fashion and maybe just maybe you'll get something of a following even if it's alot smaller. Or possibly saying it's in the same world where the world of Equestria has somehow gotten to the point that it got worse then when Celestia was ruling Equestria by herself (Because at least under Celestia even with Luna banished to the moon and Twilight was either not there yet or still training. The three pony races were generally united as they have been for more then a thousand years. Not segregated as they are implied to be in G5.)
And while it's too early to tell and could easily be still very much a part of G5 is the non-ponies that were featured in the later seasons. Will Changelings, Dragons, Kirins, Hippogriffs, etc. still play a role? Or will it only focus on ponies? Because the less there are of the non-pony species, the less it will feel like this truly is supposed to be the same world of Equestria we knew. Unless you want to say in a really dark direction that most non-pony species went extinct ever since G4 happened. Even if they're never going to explain how Equestria collapsed into the G5 world (Which I have something of a suspicion that they might never explain it completely)
And another question that is sure to follow... are all the Alicorns from G4. Whether it be Celestia, Luna, Twilight, Cadence, or Flurry Heart... all dead at this point? We never really got much lore about Alicorns even throughout all of G4. So while it's certainly still possible that the Alicorns are more mortal then the fans have been led to believe. That doesn't mean it's not an important question to think about. As if this supposed to be a follow-up to G4. G5 is well within it's right to tell us that maybe we overestimated the immortality of the Alicorns, though because G4 never gave us a straight answer... it means it's entirely on G5 to tell us it's own interpretation. No matter what they say will alienate some fans because the topic of Alicorns has always been a touchy subject even before Twilight herself became an Alicorn or even arguably before the introduction of Cadence due to the many, many, fan interpretations of Luna until we finally got a look at canon Luna in Luna Eclipsed and the fear of how many headcanons it'd destroy (Didn't turn out as bad as people thought it would, but just that the fear was there sowed the seeds of what discourse the Alicorns in G4 was going to cause)
Before we got the detail from the book that G4 is considered ancient equestria in G5's world. There was speculation on the possibility that G4 is actually fictional in G5 world. In other words, the G5 world is in fact an entirely new world but in a meta sort of way is a TV show that Sunny and others were a fan of. Which would explain both the changes that are much different from Equestria (With stuff like horn and wings being different colors from the coat) and the fact Sunny had Mane 6 figures and merchandise in her room. This in retrospect might of been the smarter decision because even with the slight possibility of making some G4 fans mad that they're entirely tossing out the previous series and only having it being mentioned in a fictional context. It wouldn't run the risk of overriding the happy ending. Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if say if they took that direction they'd pull a Daring Do and have it that yes in fact G4 was once G5's past. But in order to show that, they'd have to bring back the G4 Mane 6 in some fashion. Perhaps in a pulled out of limbo-like fashion like they did for the Founders. Though that in itself comes with the problem that they'd want the Mane 6 to be actually recognizable and thus young looking. And if they come out of a limbo while still looking fairly young, it means they weren't around in the past for much long for some odd reason.
That's all I have for now at least on the top of my head. If there's a trailer coming soon I might make another of these as I said. And I'm also open to any responses whether if you want to tell me you have some of the same concerns or do anything that might calm my own concerns about the way G5 might be stepping on G4's toes whilst trying to maintain G4's fandom into the coming generations. Thanks to anyone who bothered to read. I wish good luck on G5, but if concerns aren't addressed and/or they end up correct on some fronts. There's a chance I may have quite the baggage clouding my mind even before the movie and series starts...

get to know me
tagged by @vishcount (thank you!!) and i'll follow her format bc making two posts seems a little much - i'm not that interesting!!
(hilariously, this post shows up as blocked for me bc of the tag 'joker' which? tumblr?????)
Part I
name: i'm an internet old, so i never use my real name online, mainly because it's spelled in a very unique way (thanks mom & dad) - i mean like, if you googled it you could find my home address in a few seconds kind of unique - but also, though i do enjoy the spelling, i actually don't like it very much when it's said out loud? (is it weird that my name written down is 'me', but my name aloud has never felt like 'me'?) always wanted a nickname but never acquired one :/
at any rate, i've had the username xcziel forever and i go by that đ (pronounced ex-SEE-zee-el, similar to etc. or ex-SET-er-ah! thanks @xia-xueyi for pointing out that it can be confusing to guess!)
rest behind a cut because it got long!
pronouns: she/her
star sign: i don't ... really *do* astrology? but technically saggitarius
height: 5'4" (162.5cm for the intl folks)
time: 5:43pm but these thing take me forever to type out so ... ???
birthday: playing the 'internet old' card again .. but it floats around american Thanksgiving depending on the year
nationality: american
fave bands/groups/solo artists: lumping these together because i just .. don't really do music much anymore. if you had asked me this back in my 20s i'm sure i would have had all kinds of opinions and things to share, but these days i actually mostly prefer to listen music from when i was a kid. part of it is also that as an old, i prefer to buy my music, even digitally, and i don't really use spotify - which does so much to enable diverse music exploration i admit! but i mostly have earplugs in all the time and music does not work for me as background noise, so...
so i guess my answer would be 70s disco and classic rock and 80s new wave artists? i've never liked any artist's entire discography and prefer greatest hits-type compilations, but i guess duran duran and def leppard and depeche mode would be considered formative? i love new order but specifically late 80s new order, NOT joy division. the only concert t-shirt i've ever worn was the cult? i loved sonic temple but i can't listen to most of it anymore though i still adore love removal machine. i think maybe if you get old enough, for some of us there's TOO MUCH good music and we can't pare it down anymore
song stuck in your head: jamiroquai's canned heat
last movie you watched: re: the above, i re-watched center stage, the 2000 one with zoe saldana and the mandy moore soundtrack, bc it's a happy comfort movie and i just got a digital version
last show you binged: i can't really "binge" very often bc after a couple of hours i need a break, so i guess i'd say the tgcf donghua on netflix since it was short enough to get through all in one go
when you created your blog: in 2012 i stopped lurking so i could post about the avengers movie
the last thing you googled: 5'4" in cm? lol before that it was chinese wrapped street food
other blogs: everything is here! i discovered i compartmentalize about as well as i tag reliably (đ) but i do have several automated ao3feed-tag style sideblogs. and i did, very briefly, have a *winces* hockey sideblog too
why i chose my url: ooh i know i've done this before, sorry if it's repetitive, basically it was the username i picked back when my family first got aol: short, unique combo of letters - 14-year-old me really thought about it! and then it wouldn't let me use anything other than my name. thirty-some-odd years later, trying to come up with a livejournal username that wasn't already taken and getting fed up, i plugged it in and went: good enough!
how many people are you following: like 760-something last i checked? although many, many, many of them are deactivated
how many followers do you have: idk i don't like looking at that stuff, but way fewer than i am following
average hours of sleep: it varies too much day by day, my sleep schedule is too wonky, i have no idea what the average would be
lucky numbers: 7? cliché i know, and again not really buying into it, but somewhere in my hindbrain i like it that my first, middle, and last names all have seven letters
instruments: none. i like singing
what i'm currently wearing: giant black t-shirt and baggy black drawstring shorts, standard sitting around the house gear
dream job: don't have one. if i did it would give me something to be working towards *sigh* this is how you end up in retail for decades, kids! but also, to quote a random post i saw in true tumblr fashion "i simply do not dream of labor"
dream trip: covered this one before but: back to the uk and some railway daytrips, or a really fancy northern cruise, atlantic/pacific either one
fave food: uhhh, don't really have a favorite but i'm almost always in the mood for pizza
top three fictional universe you'd like to live in: none really, if i had to still be me..maybe some kind of actually utopian future? but the pandemic has confirmed for me that i do NOT like living in interesting times, so most fictional story universes are RIGHT out. my favorites to read about like discworld or diana wynne jones' worlds would be way to chaotic for my comfort. possibly diane duane's young wizards universe would be safe enough to be okay?
Part II
last song: watching center stage made me think of my dance playlist so sunrise by simply red
last movielast stream: i don't watch streams or youtube often, so it was the same as you, vish! liu chang's birthday stream was SO enjoyable i screenrecorded the entire thing just so i could play it back (and maybe gif sometime if i ever get the drive to actually do it)
currently reading: well i just finished the translated quan qiu gao kao or global university entrance exam novel, which was sparked purely from catching a single rec post here on tumblr and basically just *falling* into this 166 chapter epic that is *amazing* and not coming up for air until i got to the end, which is typical novel-reading behavior for me (yes i was the kid who read through lunch period and got hassled by people who kept pestering me with "what're you reading" questions and yes i realize probably a lot of you on tumblr were too) plus, the new murderbot novel is out tomorrow!!!!! so that'll be where i end up next!
currently watching: the entire dmbj verse (that i can get my hands on) but ... sporadically and stopping at random different parts because the thing is ... this type of show is not really the kind i enjoy so much? so since it's more for "research" and learning character arcs (and let's be honest: shots of liu sang), etc. it's easy to get distracted by other stuff. i'm also watching the sleuth of the ming dynasty, mr queen, bromance, the expanse, re-watching farscape and stargate sg-1, just finished the falcon and the winter soldier, and then anytime something new and short gets introduced it jumps the queue. there are just. so. many. things. to. watch! (now i have to look into anti-fraud league too!? you all are cruel ...)
what is antipoetry to you: i ... don't really think much about poetry? i know what i prefer is usually the more basic rhymed kind like lewis carroll, emily dickinson, poe, coleridge, etc. so i suppose i don't have much use for classifying non-rhyming verse? i can appreciate stuff like rupi kaur which i guess would qualify? or that william carlos williams plums poem? but it doesn't really stick with me the way lyric-like verse does
currently craving: i never know what exactly this is meant to be in reference to ... hmmm, i would love a new high-concept, high production-quality movie like say, pacific rim, to be released, just for that massive, excited energy that comes with something new that hasn't already got tons of disappointing or conflicting history behind it - that would be so fun!!
other than that, right now, i mostly kinda want some fried fish? but that will have to wait until i go to get my second vaccine shot on wednesday since it's on the way there. i'd also like my internal body parts to settle down and fly right but it's been more than a month and they don't seem inclined :(((( maybe once i'm fully vaxxed i'll think about consulting somebody about it
tagging @foxofninetales @xia-xueyi @momosandlemonsoda @memorydragon @thewindsofsong @elvencantation @mylastbraincql @hesayshesgotboyfriend @aurawolfgirl2000 @smaragdine-galaxy and anyone who wants to! but never feel obligated and if you don't get around to it for like half a year that's totally fine, i am still interested!!!
#xcedit#is my only like 'me' tag#tag game#long post#i wanna do one of these with more unusual questions but not like those themed ones ...#tell me if the cut doesn't work i'm still not used to having them on mobile!

Fic Writer Questions!
Tagged by @posingasme - seeing as my last fic was posted in 2016, thank you for still thinking of me!
1) How many works do you have on AO3? 5 little fics, and a sixth one I sadly never finished
2) What's your total AO3 word count? a humble 5758 words
3) How many fandoms have you written for and what are they? I started with Spernatural, then stumbled my way into the phandom, and I did one little Merlin crossover. (If I ever start writing again, it will probably be for audio drama's/fiction podcasts tho...)
4) What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
1) Of Hidden Memories and Kitchen Adventures - Phandom/Merlin Crossover. I just thought that Phil Lester and Colin Morgan looked similar enough to warrant a reincarnation fic.
2) Made by Gabriel - Supernatural. A fluffy little fic where the young archangels all get to create an animal. So of course they all try to outdo each other.
3) Couples Yoga Challenge - Phandom. Sweet, short and fluffy. The title says it all, really.
4)Temporary Bliss - Supernatural. Angsty and raw. Basically, I wrote a fic about Dean's internalized homophobia before I even knew what those words mean. (Started as a songfic with lyrics from temporary bliss by The Cab, but later I deleted the song quotes)
5) Tale of a Vessel - Supernatural. After the Jimmy Novak episode, all I could think about was how it must feel to be one. So this one is Jimmy getting a bit of a break from Cas and taking some time to reflect.
5) Do you respond to comments, why or why not? I always try, but sometimes I got a little overwhelmed with attention and didn't know what to say. But all comments are super appreciated and sometimes I'm just staring happily at the screen. Every notification brings a smile on my face!
6) What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending? Oof, definitely Temporary Bliss, that fic is just a heap of emotional turmoil wrapped in a little bow. Fun fact, Elysian would have the most angsty ending, but that's the one I never finished...
7) What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending? Either Couples Yoga challenge or Made by Gabriel. The first one is just happy people in a happy relationship living their own happy life. Made by Gabriel is definitely very fluffy and adorable.
8) Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you've written? Just the Phandom/Merlin one! But I think that's a pretty rare combination ;)
9) Have you ever received hate on a fic? No, I've been very fortunate in that way. Only on ff.net, a little warning against copywrite that made me delete some of the song-quotes in Temporary Bliss and one little harsh but well-meaning comment on Elysian that if I didn't update, people would stop reading. But nothing that I would call "hate".
10) Do you write smut? If so what kind? Oh no, I don't trust my writing abilities enough for that. I think there's an art to writing a good smut-scene and it's one I haven't mastered
11) Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of.
12) Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes! Someone translated Made by Gabriel into Russian! Sometimes I google-translate the comments there and it's so lovely to read. (I'm very okay with translating, as long as you ask first and properly credit and stuff)
13) Have you ever co-written a fic before? No, I haven't.
14) What's your all time favorite ship? That's the hardest question of the list! I don't think I have an all-time favorite, it changes too much! Whenever I stop watching a show I also tend to stop reading fic for it. sastiel and sabriel were definitely long-time faves, so were Dan&Phil. Right now I'm very into non-romantic queerplatonic Sammy and Ben from the podcast King Falls AM.
15) What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will? Elysium, definitely Elysium. I had so much of that story planned out, and then I lost all my notes for it. Accidentally deleted and never found again. It completely crushed my enthusiasm and I never finished it. It was supposed to be a five-chaptered story. A prologue, and then the four episodes that featured Gabriel (Tall Tales, Mystery Spot, Changing Channels and Hammer of the Gods) from his point of view, interspersed with flashbacks of his time in heaven, with his brothers, and his time under the apprenticeship of actual norse-god Loki before Gabriel became a trickster himself. It was supposed to end with his death at the hands of Lucifer in season 5.
16) What are your writing strengths? Short fluffy stuff and I also like a bit of introspection, mostly with Temporary Bliss and Tale of a Vessel. Just kinda crawl in a characters head for a little bit. Also, not necessarily a writing strength, but I'm very proud that I write them in English even tho it's not my first language.
17) What are your writing weaknesses? Planning/writing long fics. And dialogue. I find it so hard to get the voice right.
18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? I haven't tried, but I always like it when I read it. Especially when the character isn't American/English. Makes it feel more real :)
19) What was the first fandom you wrote for? Supernatural! It's the fandom that made me start a tumblr.
20) What's your favorite fic you've written? Made by Gabriel. It's cute, it's fun, it's the first one I've ever written and I'm still very proud of it.
I'm throwing this challenge to the podcast writers!: @kurofae @houseofbeesart @lucifer-kane and anybody that wants to do the tag!

Secret Santa
12 Days of Christmas: Day 1
Pairing: Wesley Wyndam-Pryce x reader
Request: If you're still accepting winter requests could I have a wesley x reader where the reader tells wesley that they still stubbornly believe in Santa claus so he gets them a gift and they do the "Santa's handwriting looks suspiciously like yours" line? I love your writing btw and hope you have a good winter!
Requested by: @alltheangstmygifttoyouâ
You were sat in the library with your nose in a book. He had joined you again. The same guy, always sat two seats away from you. He never spoke to you, sometimes he glanced over when he thought you werenât looking. You were relaxed in his presence, not many could do that. For some unknown reason in your soul, you trusted him.
You came here for fun, to find a peaceful place to read. Your apartment was full of roommates and you paid too much for very little personal space. So you spent a lot of your free time here. It was an escape from the mundane. You went on epic adventures, got lost in new lands. Met angels and demons. Read tales of good and evil. You could only dream of being a part of something like that. It was everything you wanted. Sometimes you read non-fiction. Wanting to absorb as much information as you could. You liked learning and you knew knowledge was important. The guy often noted what you were reading, he was fascinated by the array of texts you would read.
This man, a rogue demon hunter by night and a regular of the library by day was named Wesley. He had been travelling since his stint as a watcher in Sunnydale and had settled here for the moment. The truth was, Wesley had been building up the courage to speak to you for a while. He loved to sit in the library it had a great atmosphere for when he needed to focus. But since he had noticed you, the last thing he could do was focus.
He caught your eye often and sometimes you shared a smile. It was as if you were both holding your breath, seeing if the other would make a move first. But neither of you did. That was, until one day. In early December. Today. You had been to the market earlier that day and had decided to treat yourself by buying yourself some old trinket from the flea market on your way to the library. This had caught the manâs eyes and you smiled. But today, he didnât smile back. He was staring from your neck to your face with concern. He paused for a moment, but he had to say something.
âH-Hello, could I, um, borrow that necklace?â he whispered and pointed at the chain around your neck. You blinked at him. Your frown now matching his. He never spoke to you before and the first thing he wanted was to borrow the gold chain around your neck. He hadnât complimented it. Hadnât said that he liked how unique it was. Just asked you to remove it.
âNo, itâs mine. Sorryâ you shifted away from him trying to get back into your book. But he persisted moving seats right beside you.
âitâs glowing and⊠leaking a yellow liquid that I know for certain is a concentration of yakâs blood and wolfsbaneâ He stated trying to get you to understand. The necklace had been dipped in the potion and cursed to hold something by his quick assessment of the situation.
âSorry, youâll have to get your own. Perhaps put it on your Christmas list to Santaâ You offered unhelpfully as he looked at you aghast at the suggestion. Especially so when
âThere is no such thing as Santa, now wonât you please listen to what Iâm sayingâ
âIâve seen you around here, you know⊠I had been hoping you would say something but you never didâ You said slowly frowning at the way he had denounced Santa so easily, âNow I know why, youâre basically Scrooge McDuckâ
âI assume that this is some caricature of one Ebenezer Scrooge and not a backhanded complimentâ He muttered, shaking his head. He had imagined your first interaction going a lot smoother than this. He remembered what he was trying to do and focused on the threat instead, âI just think it would be wise for you to remove the chain and pass it over to me slowlyâ he said, his arms raised to highlight how serious he was. You got up to leave and he followed you out.
âBut this was my Christmas present to myself, I found it on the market! And, even if I wasnât attached to the chain, you just ruined my favourite time of year by denying Santaâs existence!â You hissed at him as you left the main room of the library and into the corridor leading to the exit.
âWhat are you talking about-â
âYou know that the magic of Christmas, and more importantly, Santa only works if you believeâ you insisted, your face deadly serious as you turned back to look at him. Stopping dead in the corridor.
âDonât be ridiculous! Just- give me the-â he grabbed at the necklace and tugged it, breaking the clasp and pulling it from your neck. You frown, trying to snatch it back. You end up doing a crude tug-of-war with the gold chain.
This was when you both felt a white hot heat burning your fingertips. You both knew you had messed up as you yelped in unison and dropped the chain to the ground. A white light blinded you both momentarily and when it disappeared a demon was towering over you. Your eyes widened. You had never seen anything like it. You had a certain level of belief in the things you could not see or explain but you had never considered something like this. Never expected anything like the fantasy you had read in books to become a reality. But there was no other explanation than this was a demon. Perhaps it came from the books⊠or, oh, of course. The necklace.
âWho hath summoned me? Reveal yourself!â The booming voice echoed around the corridor as he shrugged off the tinsel he had knocked down from the walls as he had appeared. He stamped on it for good measure and scowled around.
A librarian came to tell the group to be quiet, her finger hovering over her lip ready to motion you to be silent. However, when she saw the identity of the one making all the noise she backed out of the hall and back through the double doors into the main library, shaking her head. That was more trouble than it was worth.
That left you, the Englishman and this unusual creature that kind of looked half yak, half Santa clause if he had spent the night passed out in a bush. He even had jingle bells on the lining of his cloth outfit.
âSpeak, child! Who dares stand before me?!â the giant pointed at you. But Wesley stepped in front of you.
âWesley Wyndam-Pryce, demon hunterâ He recited, staring in his eyes and hoping nobody else saw his slight shaking.
âYou wish to hunt me as sport? Do you know who I am?â he asked.
âHogroth, warrior demon of the Land of Lapâ Wesley stated quickly. Your eyes widened. This was too good to be true. Well, it would be if a demon who was tangled up in tinsel as if it was a web
Hogroth unsheathed his weapon and Wesley quickly started to fight against him.
After trading blows and dodging the sharp edge of the sword, Wes managed to knock the weapon from his hand. This appeared to even surprise himself. He grabbed the sword and pointed it at his chest before slashing at it. They fought against each other as you watched on like a spare part, Â with the demon unwrapping the tinsel from its upper arm and used it to try and strangle Wesley.
You couldnât let this happen. You needed a distraction. You shrugged, remembering something you had read in a fight scene. You might as well give this a go. If it was a dream you would just wake up and if it wasnât, well, you tried to push that thought away. You ran up and jumped onto his back covering his eyes as he hit out wildly. Hogroth grabbed you and flipped you over his head leaving you landing hard on the floor. Wesley saw his chance and plunged the demonâs own knife into his heart. This left him sinking to his knees and disappearing in the same way he came. You managed to haul yourself up, breathing heavily and wondering if there had been something stronger than nutmeg in the Christmas cookies one of your roommates had given you before you left the house that day.
âThank you, for helping meâ Wesley said sincerely, âIt means a great deal to me, and I do apologise about your, uh, jewelleryâ he motioned to the blackened scorch mark that had once been your nice chain.
âDonât mention itâ You shrugged, a lot cooler than you felt. You were still a little bemused. But of course you would help him even if you were still a little put out from the way he had so cruelly cut down your talk of Santa. You liked the magic of Christmas and if a Hogwarts demon, or whatever it was that the man said he was existed then why not Santa? It was hypocritical but you supposed it wasnât really a necessary argument. You decided to just say your goodbyes although you did avoid the library for a while after this. You decided to have some space away from the demon you had watched die and also the self-appointed demon hunter who had insisted Santa didnât exist.
Finally, you caved. It was the week leading up to Christmas and you had to go to return your books before the library closed for the holidays. You also needed some time out of the apartment, someone new had moved in and you had no plans over the holiday season not just because you expected your room to have been rented out if you left too far away from town. You decided the coast was clear and you stowed away in a corner to read with some peace. Time had passed and you had been transported to amazing worlds that were detailed on the pages. It made you think about what had happened. About the possibility there were real adventures out there. Real monsters to vanquish. Real heroes. Real people to offer your heart to.
âI wish to apologise properlyâ a familiar English voice spoke, pulling you from your thoughts. One that had been in your mind since that day. The day you met a demon for the first time. The day you met a man that you could see as a kind of angel. He sat down opposite you, a low table with a poinsettia between you.
âThatâs okay, I think Santaâs the one you should be apologising to reallyâ You say without looking up from your page, although you had stopped reading.
He just nodded once and slid a wrapped box towards you. It made you close your book slowly, looking first at him and then the gift. You cautiously reached out and turned over the note attached.
Dear y/n,
I hope that you can forgive Wesley he really likes you â it is the season of forgiveness.
Heâs sorry.
Love, Santa
âSantaâs handwriting looks suspiciously like yoursâ You say seriously which actually made him smile wide. He was fond of you before he had even gotten to know you fully. One more look from your bright eyes or a smile from your lips and he was yours. Forever. It really was a storybook romance as you had been worrying about believing too easily. He couldnât help but want to be with you, want to protect you. And he hoped this gift would mean that you forgave him and you could get to know each other better.
âYou do not know what Santaâs handwriting looks likeâ He murmured, but you gave him a look as if to say of course you did. Your attention then moved to the gift. You opened the packaging slowly, savouring the moment. You had this feeling. Like this magic inside. You knew deep down that this was the man you wanted to spend the rest of your days with.
When you opened it, a perfect chain was laying on the velvet material. You gasped, trying to insist he didnât have to do it. This was too much for an acquaintance to give.
âYou lost your necklace, of course you needed a new oneâ He said simply, not allowing himself to gush the very feelings he had now started to harbour. It was too much to put on a person too quick. He had never believed in the kind of love in movies, much less love at first sight. But he truly understood it now.
âBut I havenât got you anythingâŠâ you say softly.
âI think, perhaps, you could do me the honour of going on a date with me? I am new hereâ
âDemon hunting keeps you on the road?â You say and he looks away a little embarrassed. You could see this meant a lot to him. He was lonely, âI can think of a better presentâ You offered, leaning in. Your eyes cast towards his lips and then back up to his eyes. He threaded his hand between the hair at the base of your neck, pulling you into him. Your lips met and a growing fever ignited inside the both of you. Your affections growing. The potential of this union a dizzying prospect. Your lips moved together softly, such feeling transferring between each other.
This Christmas was the start of a true adventure. Falling in love had been the easy part. But learning of the true extent of the demon underworld and meeting some of Wesleyâs acquaintances brought more danger. You wouldnât trade your place to be back in that cramped apartment without Wesley in your life though. For a start, he let you decorate the flat you shared in any way you liked for Christmas. He often helped and listened to direction with an adoring smile on his face when he looked at you.
Nothing ever took you away from each other. And nothing ever took Christmas away from you. Every year you celebrate with gusto and every year you can feel yourself falling more and more in love for your dorky rogue demon hunter. No matter what anyone else thought of him, he would always be your hero. Since the first day you properly met.
