In relation to this post asking how BoTW/ToTK couldāve been written better:
How cool would it have been if BoTW had audio diaries and interact-able memories?
I kind of imagined something where every time you collect a memory, not only would you find a column of light in the spot where each picture was taken on the Sheikah Slate, but youād follow a trail of light and when you get to the end of the trail, it triggered a flashback in which you would actually play as Link in the memory rather than just having mini movies that you watch.
Like in the memory A Premonition, the one where Link left a battle with bokoblins and moblins and lynels with only a scratch. Imagine if you played as Link in that memory and fought all of those monsters!
I am playing a game, not watching a movie. Let me interact with my game, dammit!
Now, maybe Iām saying this as a BioShock enjoyer (a brilliant game btw, you should play it if you havenāt), but I think in a game that heavily based around technology, audio diaries wouldāve also made sense.
Like imagine, just imagine what the Silent Princess memory couldāve been if it was played like an audio diary instead of a memory mini movie. Imagine finding a drive containing the audio log in Zeldaās study next to a Silent Princess flower, and you hear Zelda talking about where she is, what sheās looking at, finding a Silent Princess, hearing Zeldaās voice trail off as she speaks, then getting excited at the sight of a hot-footed frog, the audible friction of her clothes ruffling as she makes an effort to catch it and shoves the frog at Link and telling him to taste it, Linkās audible āeurgh!ā
If you couldnāt tell already, the inspiration from BioShock has taken over my brain, as well as my love for stories being told through just audio logs. It leaves a lot to the imagination and I feel like Nintendo missed that opportunity. I feel like the game would have been a way better game if it let me go out and explore the world and piece the story together myself, rather than telling the entire story of what happened 100 years ago delivered by King Rhoam in a single cutscene after I just finished the tutorial.

Be honest with me. (us? The TP/BotW community? idk.) What do you think of the BotW2 trailer, and do you think there's even a sliver of potential for the Twili to return? I've been dying to know your answer, Amos. By the way, thanks again for the Midlink art piece. Doing a smart here by being off anon for this ask lol.
My My, Quite the questionĀ
*TP Link
First off Iām pretty sure Twilight Princess Link is done as far as canon in-game appearances go. Wolf Link was a pretty dope add-in for Breath of the wild and could be added in for BOW2, but thatās really all were gonna get Iām afraid. :/
well sorta at least.
I mean we got TONES of Amibo and in-game TP stuff like the Twilight tunic, TP Epona (the only Epona in this game mind you), TP Zeldaās Light bow, TP Ganondorfās Sword, Midna and Zantās helmet, mention of Prince Rails on the path to Zoras Domain, the somewhat homage to the Bridge of Eldon and of course the famous side quest āA Fragmented Monumentā being an obvious nod to the Mirror of twilight.
but even with all this TP stuff Itās no indicationĀ that Nintendo has any plans to bring TP Link into the mix.
...
That said... Between you and me, Nintendo just wonāt let go of Twilight princess Link.
TP Link got the hi-rez treatment a few years ago for promotional stuff, and as much as I love it and want posters of the full version there really isnāt a reason for Nintendo to be using him to promote things.
They could have use any other Link, but they picked him specifically.
Ā I mean, Skyward Sword Link was technically the latest in the usual green tunic design(although it was basically a simplified TP tunic), Ocarina of Time and Toon Link are theĀ āfan favoritesā, and Breath of the wild Link is the brand spanking new one that broke records.Ā Ā
Yet, TP Link is still getting promoted.
Whats even more interesting is the the rest of the Nintendo Tokyo banner.
Breath of the Wild Link and Zelda are both there, but so is TP Link and Ganondorf!
Ā And get this, TP Link is the one in the smaller more common banner!
I love it, but I canāt explain it!
*This is from the 2019 Nintendo Tokyo game show btw*
So as much I have my doubts about TP Link showing up in BOTW2 or ever having a real return of any kindĀ Nintendo sure isnāt making it easy for me to keep believing that.
Ā Almost like they're toying with me. :(
Is TP Link gonna show up in Breath of the wild 2? probably not. at most heel be a non-cannon amibo wolf companion like in the first one.
Is there gonna a new game with TP Link in it? doubt it.
Is there gonna be a port of the HD Version of Twilight princess to the switch? Could be... but highly unlikely.
Will they do a complete remake of Twilight Princess with these dope re-rendered models with a gameplay style like the Wii U tech Demo of the spider boss!!??? GOD I WISH BUT I KNOW IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN!!!!!Ā ( Ķ”ą²„ ĶŹ Ķ”ą²„)
But logically itās probably that TP Link is the best looking and most Marketable out of the Link bunch.Ā :/
Anyway, you were asking about Breath of the wild 2 right. lol
*BOTW2
the trailer is interesting... like really REALLY interesting.
Its looks waaaaay darker and shaping up to be the Zelda story we never knew we wanted.
I mean comāon whats not to love about dark Zelda stories!? Zelda is always at itās best when its pushing the edge a bit.
I even did my own break down of it.
Ā I think I posted it here already but I canāt remember so here it is anyway.
This is pretty much what I gathered from the trailer.
Dark, mysterious, somewhat hopeless and tragic, our heros are in over their heads, everythingĀ is on the line, I love it!
Sadly, I really donāt wanna think about it too much becauseĀ I got my hopes up last time and Nintendo has a bad habit of playing it safe when they should go all out. :/
Straight Up though weāre gonna be seeing Zelda in a much more involved role so that much seems apparent.Ā to what degree? I have no idea.
She might be playable as a character you switch off to for puzzle solving or Goddess powers since shes using the sheikah slate.
All I ask it that she not be an exclusive cutseen character. I wanna see my girl doing things in game.
that said, I know people want Zelda to be the the main playable character but she really isnāt suited to fill Links role as the adventurous warrior type.Ā
Sheās really more of a sage type character on top of being a book worm and not really fit for direct combat.
Ironically enough playing as Zelda would change things so much it wouldnāt be a Zelda game. lol
Or heck, she just mightĀ be the playable character its hard to tell honestly.
but what about Link?
Link on the other hand (no pun intend) is still gonna be the player character I think.
I imagine the thing going on with his arm is going to replace the sheikah slateās function with some added combat stuff.
Kinda like Neroās arm from DMC or the Shinobi prosthetic from Sekiro.
It would be pretty cool to see Links combat and exploration open up because of a nifty arm. :)
or it could be killing him and we gotta find a way to cure him so he can defeat Ganondorf. (that would be rad!!!)
All-n-all that just depends on what the arm is doing and waht the game wants to be like.
I hope and pray for a combat system like in Twilight Princess and a return to the Temple / Dungeons puzzle and bosses system from the other 3D Zeldaās with a breath of the wild spin.
Golly, just picture exploring a Dungeon with Zelda doing logic puzzles and switching off to Link to handle the combat segments doing a back and forth between the 2 leading up to a boss fight they have to work together to defeat.Ā
THAT WOULD BE SO RAD!!!!!
Man this is getting long.
Ā Iāll just say that I have high hopes for BOW2, but going in with zero expositions is always the the way to go.
I trust Nintendo took the feed back from the first game and is adjusting t something that will hopefully satisfy the fans.
I apologize if this was all over the place, I had to do work in between.
I had others ask me slimier questions if youāre that curios and want a fresher take on my thought for BOTW2.
*Ā thoughts about that BotW sequel trailer
*Ā how much Hyrule has changedĀ
thanks for the question, hope I answered it properly! lol

Major Discovery: BotWās Adventure Log = Linkās Diary?!
SERIOUSLY.
(Spoiler Alert)
At this point, our beloved game Breath of the Wild has been out for around half a year already. If you have played the game, you are probably very familiar with the Adventure Log feature in BotW that helps you keep track of all your missions and side quests. Or else its pretty much impossible to remember if you were catching chickens for this guy or collecting weapons to show that kid whoās boss.
But hereās the thing- Have you ever thought about the Adventure Logās origin? Who or what is helping Link keep track of his missions?
If your answer is the Sheikah Slate or the āsystemā, which is what Iāve always thought, Iām gonna go ahead and assume you own an European/American copy of the game. Because apparently, in the Japanese version of the game, there is evidence that shows that LINK is the one who wrote the adventure log to keep track of his own journey.
āOkā¦ So what?ā
So Link wrote the Adventure Log. Big deal. Itās not like this is gonna change the gameplay in any way.
ā¦True. However, Link didnāt JUST record his missions in the Adventure Log. According to the Japnese version, Link would often type up some of his own thoughts and comments on what he was doing aside from his current objectives. This could give us a deeper insight of Linkās character.
Hereās an example:
This is what shows up after you complete The Heroās Sword quest. The content of the two versions are very similar, but notice the use of āčŖåā (myself) in pic 1. This is evidence that the adventure log is written by Link, whoās talking about himself in first person narrative, instead of āthe systemā. With that in mind, the Japanese version can be translated to:
(I) Finally retrieved the legendary Master Sword. (I) Donāt know if itās just an illusion, but the sword itself seems to be delighted about this.
To this moment, Princess Zelda is still inside Hyrule Castle, fighting to suppress the Calamity.
She is still holding on to the faith in me, believing that I will definitely come for herā¦!
But with the power (that I have) now, can she really be saved (by myself)ā¦?
You see what they did there?
The English version replaced every first person pronoun Link has used withĀ āyouā!
As someone who owns an American copy, and has never set the system language to Japanese, I was absolutely SHOCKED when I was told about this (credits at the end).
Remember how we could find diaries of NPCs all across Hyrule? Linkās was right under our noses this whole time!
Now that you know about this, does your adventure log seem a bit different from before?
(I) finished visiting all 13 of the locations in the old pictures. I remembered everything Iāve been through together with Princess Zelda.
In those memories (of mine), Princess Zelda always strived to complete the task burdened onto herā¦
Even if itās just a moment sooner, (I) want to save her as quickly as possible
(I) want to see her smile again, with these eyes (of my own).
The translation on this one is just OFF. I canāt believe the English version completely omitted the last part, and replaced it with some kind of mission instruction.
Link has been fighting all this time to see Princess Zeldaās smile again with his own eyes.
Ā ...*sniff*
Not to mention those side quest logs. Once you realize that all of the entries were written by Link himself, the seemingly trivial information recorded in those suddenly opens up so many more hidden sides of Link. It basically re-introduced Link as someone with normal human emotions instead of the silent hero depicted throughout the game.
The caring Link, who was worried about a girl he only met twice for putting herself in danger:
ā¦(I) ventured inside and found part of the Royal Guardās Series, famous among equipment collectors.
When those were shown to Parcy, the traveler at the stable, her curiosity about it seem to be provoked more than ever (by me). (I) Hope she wonāt do anything recklessā¦
The compassionate Link, who felt glad for other peoplesā happiness:
ā¦
As a sign of appreciation for bringing the town together and as compensation for the work done (by me), a hefty amount of gems that were unearthed during the townās construction were given by Hudson (to me).
(I) wish the couple could live happily ever after.
The reckless Link, who apparently felt thrilled when he managed to knock out some monsters with his new companion:
(I) captured the giant horse in Taobab Grasslands
So thatās why. Itās indeed a really big horse. It trampled whatever kind of monster in its way with ease when it galloped. That was really cool. Ā
When it was brought back to Straia (by me), he was very surprised.
Link the foodie, who carefully noted down new recipes he learned along the way for future use:Ā
(I) brought Kiana the goat butter and hearty blueshell snail required for cooking seafood paella. She shared some of the dish (with me) as thanks!
/////Recipe/////
The playful Link, who tried to mimic the way Gorons speak- by adding āgoronā at the end of every sentence- after he passed the Test of Will and became one of the bros:
ā¦ā¦
Ahā¦ (I) kinda want to write down Kabettaās Bro Motto, but thereās not enough space goron?
Thatās too bad goronā¦
The empathetic Link, who felt nervous for the guy in this side quest, then relieved when the couple finally got together:
ā¦andā¦ THIS:
The last line on the left is the Japanese equivalent of What the heckā¦
I guess the statue is a bit too weird even for our great adventurer.
Finally, we have the entry that shows up after you complete the DLC trial:
(I) finally conquered the merciless Trial of the Sword.
ā¦ā¦
(I believe that) Princess Zelda would be quite happy about how much Iāve improved
As we all know, Breath of the Wild is a game that focuses a lot on the freedom given to the players. Even the main story line is broken down into the form of memories, waiting for the players to find. As the players venture on into the wild, they would eventually find the information they need to learn about this world. The amazing amount of details you can find about Hyrule and its people is an important reason why BotW is so attractive.
On the contrary, the info available about our protagonist is very limited. The only piece of description that directly describes Link is in Zeldaās diary, where she points out that he is a very quiet person, and thatās it for our hero.
ā¦NOT!!
Link had always had the most extensive character description. Right under our noses.
Nintendo got us. They got us GOOD.
But now we know.
SIX months after the gameās launch.
ā¦Better late than never.
End.
P.S.: Fun fact about BotW Link- he seems to like the sand seal game a lot. Of all the entires about racing minigames, the sand seal game is the only one where Link wrote ā(Iāll) try to get a better score next time!ā
Heās so adorable I canāt //////

Disclaimer: I did not discover this.
This discovery was made by a Chinese gamer @atomaruU about a week ago. To make sure that her theory is correct, she cross referenced the English version of the game, only to discover that the language is completely emotionless and robotic. Therefore, to allow more people to see who Link REALLY is, I was asked to write this post based on the Chinese article she published.Ā
