why derek hale deserves better:

derek hale’s character had so much potential to bring attention to male survivors of sexual violence, particularly when perpetrated by an older, attractive female and break away from the ‘oh but she’s hot, you’re so lucky’ (looking at u ryan murphy) trope that is disgustingly common in media but jeff davis is a weak ass bitch and just introduces a character with endless trauma but refuses to recognise or develop it??

he also has endless trauma from his family being hate crime’d to death and his surviving sister being murdered and having her body mutilated but apparently derek is unaffected with this and the only time we see him express a feeling about it is when the plot needs tension between the werewolves and the hunters??

throughout teen wolf we see examples of bodily autonomy and consent being taken away, most notably with stiles and the nogitsune and lydia being controlled by peter - but the same attention never seems to be given to derek who was taken of advantage to by kate (twice!!) so that she could burn his entire family alive and then use him to control her were-jaguar impulses - a series of events which leads to him (temporarily) losing his powers and making him feel overwhelmingly helpless and vulnerable as he becomes more human/loses a key part of his identity

tw: rape mention

not that the weird kate/derek dynamic needs to be pointed out but he was an emotionally vulnerable teenager and she was a grown woman who committed statutory rape (im not sure of derek’s age to say whether it was legally statutory rape but in my brain she took advantage of someone much younger and more naive than her and im going to consider this statutory rape from my own moral standpoint) against him whilst actively hunting people like him

even when derek is an adult the dynamic between them is toxic like when she shoots him with a wolfsbane bullet and that weird scene when she has him locked up and licks his abs? their dynamic always has derek in a vulnerable position regardless of his age, and show kate to have the upper hand, and their scenes (the scene when kate reveals werewolves to allison comes to mind again) always seem to have a degree of sexual coding like was it necessary for derek to be shirtless in that scene? no - and it was probably intended to be from more of a ‘let’s show of tyler hoechlin’s abs’ perspective but (to me personally and likely for others) it doesn’t come across that way it just shows derek again in a vulnerable position, at the hands of a woman who has taken advantage of him in the past and he is being unecessarily sexualised

not sexually motivated but he was also manipulated by his uncle (who at this time he seemed to trust) into a series of events which ended in him having to kill the girl he loves (which in turn leads to being used and manipulated by another woman years later) and the only residual impact this seems to have on him is ‘ooo he has blue eyes’, this undoubtedly puts derek in an emotionally vulnerable position which may have aided in kate being able to manipulate him but we still never see any real impact of this on derek in canon

i know he his portrayed as a private and reserved character but there was so much wasted potential here and the lack of attention given to the trauma in derek’s past really minimises the horror of it and makes it easier for the casual viewer to dismiss the impact that trauma like that would have on a person if they were not a fictional character - he doesn’t even seem to get any attention from the other characters in the show who are made aware of derek’s past including kate, paige, and the fire but it’s like ‘derek will be derek’ rather than ‘wtf this guy needs help and support’, although i would’ve liked a developed plot where derek confronts and overcomes all the shit he’s been put thorough I’d have accepted a crumb of derek getting the emotional support he needs

jennifer (who we know to be a master manipulator) is the second woman who uses sex to manipulate derek as she tries to use him to help her take down the alpha pack and in the process of her plan she nearly kills derek’s sister and derek gives up his alpha powers to save her, once again leaving him less powerful than he was before and leaving him vulnerable

isaac makes a comment about how derek was ‘rolling around the sheets with the real killer’ as though derek was supposed to know that jennifer was the darach when no one else had figured it out/even suspected her - jennifer kills stiles’ friend and nearly kills lydia, but she doesn’t have as much impact on any other main character as she does on derek - we don’t know too much about the nature of their relationship but derek does go to her after he is injured episode 3x05/3x06(?) and he does have some feelings for her and wants to protect her - at the very least they have an emotional connection and jennifer uses sex and intimacy to manipulate derek like a pawn in her overall plan

continuing with the themes of bodily autonomy and consent derek’s body is repeated used against his will - like in season 2 when scott forces derek to bite gerard (although this was part of a larger plan this doesn’t take away from the fact that derek’s autonomy was stripped away again) and in season 3 when derek’s claws are used to kill boyd- not only painful for him because he is taking the life of a friend and a member of his own pack but also because of derek’s ‘im a predator but i don’t have to be a killer’ line which shows us that CHOICE is important to him and he wants to have control over the actions and path he takes (which is probably fair to say for most people but is specifially an important part of derek’s character)

overall, derek is repeatedly manipulated by people he is supposed to trust and care for - he has a whole lot of trauma for his teen years which could have been so well addressed in the show and brought awareness to male sexual violence (already unrepresented) and teen wolf could’ve really stood out against other teen dramas but jeff davis and the writers weren’t willing to go in that direction (but they still gave us the train wreck of season 4??) and instead derek’s character is left as this stoic, eye candy guy with so much wasted potential

summary: i which he injures himself on purpose to visit the cute doctor that works the night shift, and he finally gets her to agree to go on a date.

a/n: will proof read this in the morning cause i’m too fucking tired now. btw shoutout to the anon that requested izzy x doctor!reader, hope u like it!!

It was a rather slow night considering you were working at a hospital that was situated mere blocks away from the ever so busy and wild downtown LA. Night after night, people would come in though the hospital’s doors, injured by the weirdest things you would ever imagine, and go back out to no doubt keep partying and behaving irresponsibly. Now, you were no one to judge irresponsible behavior, but for the life of you, you just couldn’t seem to understand how someone could possibly willingly jump off a roof and into the streets of the the Sunset Strip, and not expect any injuries. 

Speaking of, as of right now you found yourself attending the injuries of a guy that looked like he hadn’t slept in ages, and reeked of alcohol and drugs. Unfortunately, you knew this “guy” all too well. His name was Izzy and the first time you met him he had gotten punched by “some girl he had slept with’s boyfriend”, as he had put it. It had left him with a broken nose and damaged rib, but he had claimed the other guy had had it worse. 

Ever since then, he had been ending up at the hospital almost every night, and with your unfortunate luck, he always seemed to arrived right in your shifts. 

His face was framed by long black hair and rather messy bangs, and on his chest were displayed a couple of necklaces that added some light to his all-black outfit.  He had been talking to you and distracting you from your work ever since he arrived, and to make matters worse, your boss had ordered you to watch him all night to see if he showed any signs of brain damage that you had missed. 

“So, you come here often?” he asked with a crooked smirk and wandering eyes. 

“You mean to the hospital? Where i work?” you answered, rolling your eyes when he nodded his head and raised his eyebrows, implying it was a totally logical question. “Yes, i come here often. Not as often as you it would seem. Quite prone to hurting yourself, aren’t you?”

“Maybe i just like to visit my favorite doctor.”

Ah yes, the flirting. It seemed it wasn’t enough for him to already bother you with his presence, but he also made it his thing to flirt with you as much as possible during his stay. 

“I’m not a doctor yet, and i would appreciate it if you could keep your advances to the minimum. We don’t want you to damage your brain trying to come up with more pick up lines, seeing as it requires a lot of effort for you to even get coherent sentences out.” you said sarcastically and watched his smirk grow.

“What is it going to take for you to finally admit you’re into me?” he asked, and you could not understand how he’d come to that conclusion when all you’ve ever done is turn him down. Nonetheless, you figured you’d follow his game. If you were going to spend your whole night by his side, you could use some fun.

“Well, for one, i have never seen you sober, or showered for that matter, so that would be a great start.” 

“It’s not my fault i always end up here in the nights i play shows.” he said in a voice that could almost be considered as a whine, and you found yourself smiling at how cute he sounded when he wasn’t being an asshole. Still, you found yourself interested in something he’d hinted at. 

“Shows? What, like a band?” you asked and he nodded, a proud smile on his face. “So, you’re in a band, but you wear cowboy boots? Those two worlds don’t sound much like colliders to me.” 

“Can’t forget about my hometown, you know? Good ol’ Indiana.” he answered, putting on a strong midwest accent while pretending to bow an invisible cowboy hat and you found yourself giggling at his actions.

“Ride a lot of tractors, farmer?” you asked, imitating his accent.

“Bold of you to assume i had the money to buy one.” he replies and you laugh again. 

You spent a few minutes talking to each other in a midwest accent and making fun of his hometown using the few stereotypes about it that you knew, before you remember the reason you had been talking about it in the first name, and decided to ask another question.

“So, what’s your band’s name?” 

“Guns N’ Roses.” he replied and you shook your head.

“Can’t be any good if i’ve never heard of it.” you said sarcastically, and he gasped in fake offense.

“Not our fault you are trapped between these white walls every night, that’s when we shine.” he replied, and now it was your turn to act offended.

“Excuse you! I have a life outside of the hospital.” you said in a light tone, to let him know you weren’t truly offended.

“People who have lives don’t need to remind other people that they do.”

“People who are in successful band don’t need to remind other people that the are in one.”

“Touché.” he said with a smirk.

You spent the next couple of hours talking to Izzy about random topics, him not failing to deliver a pick up line from time to time, and the night was slowly but surely starting to slip out of your hands. Right now, you were back to the topic of his band after you had ranted for a couple of minutes about how hard it was to be taken seriously in your profession while being a woman. As you teased him telling him he had to settle for guitar player because he wasn’t a good enough singer (a claim he denied thoroughly), he looked like he wanted to say something else, before your boss came to stand in front of Izzy’s bed.

“If you are done flirting with your patient, miss Y/N Y/L/N, i would suggest you walk him outside. He’s been in observation enough time and we need as many beds as we can get.” he informed you, his stare cold.

“Yes, sir.” you answered, before walking Izzy to the front desk to register him out.

“You should come see us play sometime, that way i can prove to you that we’re actually good.” Izzy suggested once you were already at the front desk signing papers. “We’re playing the Whiskey tomorrow.”

“You’ve tried asking me out every night you’ve been here and the answer’s always been the same, what makes you think tonight is going to be different?”

“Oh, come on. I promise i’ll shower and i will not drink or do any drugs until i drop you off. That way you get to see me showered and sober, it’s a package deal you can’t just ignore.” he pleaded. 

“All right, maybe i’ll go down the strip tomorrow night, and if i catch a certain band i know the name of, i might stick around to listen to a song or two.” you gave in with a smirk. 

“I’ll see you when i see you then, Y/N.” he said while bowing his invisible cowboy hat again, and walked away with a wink. 

He left you standing at the front desk watching as, just like every other night, he slipped past the front doors and out on the street again. Only this time was different, because you knew you’d be the one coming out of the hospital the following night, just to follow him and watch him play an incredible show, knowing that the cute not-yet-doctor he had purposefully injuring himself over to have an excuse to see him, was finally in the crowd watching him.

1. How did you discover BTS?

Well, I first heard of them through an account here on tumblr (i don’t remember her url, but it’s from the artist Laia López, @itslopez on ig) and she started to reblog bts (specially jungkook) and her drawings of bts were so cute and i decided to give it a go at the time but I didn’t pay enough attention to them I guess (STUPID ME) and then this year I don’t quite remember how I actually started to actively listen to bts but here I am! (I think it was because some other accounts I followed turned into kpop ones too and I think that Laia also was posting more about Tae and I got curious again and yeah!) 

2. When did you become apart of ARMY?

February this year. I’m a baby fan, I still have so much to learn and see/watch omg so many bangtan bombs I haven’t watched yet for example askfdghsgfhg

3. What was your first k-pop song from memory?

I think my first kpop song was either Fire or Dope, and it was like early last year, but I only got into kpop this year. I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT TOOK ME SO LONG OMG WHY DID I NOT PAY ATTENTION TO IT AT THE TIME?!?!

4. Do you watch anime? If so, what’s your favourite anime?

Not really, no. But I’ve been meaning to start watching! I really wanna watch Attack on Titan, I heard it’s really good.

5. How many biases do you have, who are they (kpop in general)? 

omg, okay SO:

for BTS Jimin is my bias, but Jin is wanting to share the throne tbh

then Wonho and Hyungwon (I really can’t decide and I honestly bias everyone in Monsta X most of the times)

in got7 is Mark and Youngjae (but Yugyeom and Jaebum are testing me……. and also i love Jackson’s humor and Jinyoung’s sass and BamBam is the cutest…… i basically love everyone okay)

Jae from Day6 and Chen from EXO (but i still don’t know much about them and their groups)

6. What would you say to your BTS bias if you ever met him?

there’s so much I would want to say to Jimin… but mainly that I love him a lot, that he genuinely makes me so so happy and I’d thank him for everything. I would want to tell him that he is so talented and hardworking and that everyone values him and he is worth so much. I’m so proud of him and I feel so happy for him and for everything he accomplished so far with his brothers. I would tell him to take care of himself, cause he’s health is important and I just want him to be happy and healthy.  But in reality i would just say something really short and shy like “I love you so much! Thank you for everything!” and just die of embarrassment ahahah 

7. Would you rather date or become best friends your bias? 

honestly don’t know ahah I first would like to think that he would like me enough to be my friend. Aaaaah i really don’t know but tbh it’s easier for me to imagine me dating Jin than me dating Jimin, idk why??? I mean thinking about dating Jimin is awesome but I something tells me we would work better has best friends

Oh god 😂😂😂 I have tried to dance to some, but nope I can’t dance. The only kpop dance that a kinda know (and really badly) is Baepsae

No, no one actually… Which is kinda sad tbh cause sometimes I wish I could talk about it with my friends and like share the excitement but they think kpop is weird. And even if they don’t like it, I wish I could talk about it, make references about it or even have bts/monsta x/any of my biases as my lockscreen/homescreen without hearing some dumb comment about it…. because apparently having the people/person that inspires you and makes you happy and that you love as your phone backgroud is something childish and weird -.- Even the other day, I had a monsta x home screen and a friend saw it and was like “uhm why do you have 1d has your background???” and I said it wasn’t and their response was  “oh they’re the 1d from korea” and another friend just said “that’s even worse�� like why??? Why is it so bad? Even when they just ask “who is that?” like its not the question but the tone they use….  im sorry about the rant, but this actually makes me sad :( 

11. What k-dramas would you recommend to everyone? 

I don’t watch kdramas… 😥 I really want to tho… But I still haven’t had the time and I actually don’t know where to watch them or what to watch, so like if anyone wants to help I’d be really happy and love you forever!

hmmmmmmmm tough question……… I adore Blood, Sweat & Tears Korean ver. (cause it was the mv that got me into bts and I was mesmerized by it), but I NEED U and RUN are pretty awesome, specially I NEED U omg it always gets to me

2.Who was your first bias in BTS, and why did he catch your attention?? 

Rap Monster! Cause he was the only face I could recognize in all the mvs at the time and his lips and voice and just the way he rapped “peaches and cream, sweeter than sweet, chocolate cheeks, chocolate wings” just made me melt right then and there, I would literally go back on the mv just to listen to that part countless times

Now my bias is Jimin. My bias wrecker is Jin.

This question is hard, like really really hard and I’ve been thinking about it for a while now and there were several idols on the list ahahah but I think I would pick Jin, I just think he would be a really caring and supportive boyfriend, always there for you and always looking out for you. Pretty romantic and cheesy sometimes and I like that (even though I sometimes say that i don’t). His hugs would be the best, really affectionate too! Dad jokes, I love dad jokes tbh so yeah lots of those if we were in a relationship ahah. Also, I feel like he would be the type to buy you flowers and well I love love flowers! And not to forget that he cooks, so bonus points for that! (also i have this ideal date with him on my head that would consist on cooking with him and just being all lovey dovey and lots of laughs and !!!! aaskgfdjh) . 

Idk there’s a lot more about him that makes me think he would be a really great boyfriend but I would be here for ever if I wrote it all ahahah also some people say is vanilla in bed but i disagree okay!! I think he would be somewhat dom! an he would be into pet names okay?? okay!!

Jimin - black is the nº1 fav but i fell in love with Jimin when he had pink hair soooooo that one is also my fav ahaha (shoutout to the silver hair and orange hair too tho)

Jungkook - I love that black with purple tones or something that he had in Dope era, a lot!!

Tae - I really like to see Tae with light brown hair tbh he looks really cute like that

Yoongi - black hair on him it’s my fav look but i also really loved the blonde hair during Agust D

Hobi - i really like to see him with black hair but he looked really good with orange hair too
