magician is the best track of the album by faaaar but the entire thing is so hypnotizing, even if it has some fairly rough edges. still the dark undercurrent of the whole album is executed sooo well.

initial thoughts:

i wish translations were already available bc i feel like the lyrics are so important to this ep.

it’s nice to go into an album knowing that the artist had so much say over the sound + development of the project, bc even if i don’t particularly enjoy it, it’s still really encouraging to know that this is what yves wanted to create and release.

i’ve only followed the loona members distantly and i know almost kp nothing about yves other than the info surrounding this release, so i’m excited to get to know her a bit more through this

diorama: i like the flow of the melody + the beat and instrumentals of the tracks. it’s so lowkey but the bass is so prominent that it doesn’t feel soft. reminds me of eunoia (billlie) in certain parts. it will be a grower for me, but it definitely has a place already on some playlists

loop (feat. lil cherry): i just watched the mv and idk how i feel about it. there’s potential though… i want to know what she’s saying… she looked so proud in the mv especially toward the end. like she was exactly where she was meant to and wanted to be and that’s super powerful // i think the instrumental to this would be soo nice. i’m unsure about all the choices made with the singing + rap but the instrumental is sooo fantastic. i already know this will grow on me + i’ll have a more informed opinion once the lyrics drop

afterglow: such a pretty title… i like the opening a lot. her voice sounds so beautiful here. this is so different from the previous two songs but it makes sense still. ik she introduced this as meeting someone [like an ex] and wanting that relationship back but not but then realizing maybe you do and being confused about where you’re at emotionally + what you want. it felt so brief

goldfish: a fan song 🤍 she emotes so well with just her voice. i like the melody and atmosphere of the song a lot. I’m sure this is the one that had folk influences, which i always love. my og genre 🫶

overall:

while i would have liked a more sonically cohesive project, it’s obv okay to have your solo be diverse. the transition between songs isn’t entirely smooth, but i think it’s just the result of having such variety with only four tracks. there’s not space to soften or transition. her voice sounds so different between each song, so the diversity was a great choice for showing off how lovely her vocals are + how much potential she has for future releases. a longer ep or full album will be super interesting for sure

i want to listen again. it makes me want to hear more from her and check out performances and how she explains everything from this album. it keeps my interest in yves as an artist and will make me follow her cb, which is a key goal of a debut, so i think she’s successful.

i think it comes across as simpler and easier to digest than it is. it seems like something that’s meant to be turned over and over and held onto for a while. i really like how genuine the entire album feels. it feels like it was made intentionally and with a lot of care.

afterglow is predictably the standout track for me, bc of the topic and sound. i like all of it a lot, and ik it will grow on me. idk how i’ll feel about it a month from now, but it’ll be nice to explore that in the meantime.

but what SUCKS about all this is that heat waves is enjoyable when its played live. It's not the best GLASS ANIMALS song but its still a fun, decent track, that couldve been a nice introductory track to their band as a whole, leading into the rabbit hole that is their work. The problem is that heat waves is now Daves blueprint. For every fucking song he's released since. And it really doesnt help that its on repeat like everywhere.

I don't wanna talk is a really good example for the beginning of this pattern. The song is forgettable. I literally had to go to their spotify to look at what it was called bc all i could remember was that it was a single after dreamland. Dave has started to use the same fucking synths he uses in heat waves for EVERYTHING including that song and songs he PRODUCES !!!! I CAN RECOGNIZE THOSE SYNTHS AS HIM W/O EVEN LOOKING AT WHO PRODUCED IT NOW !!!!

On top of that he's stuck to the same singing style. There used to be a clear diversity in his range but now hes stuck in the same whining desperate tone that hinges on the nostalgia he keeps writing about. And like. Thats partially not me having a problem w what he writes about, that topic could be FINE, its just that hes found a cookie cutter that works for him and he's become reliant on it. It's a form of "signature" imo that he's into now, instead of the "weird" mixing he used to do with a huge variety of sounds that people came to know Glass Animals for.

Now this MIIGHT be controversial but i think this downfall started with HTBAHB. when the band became fascinated with writing about Real Stories. And the thing is HTBAHB is a REALLY good, "glass animals" take on the subject, but Dreamland fell short in REPEATING this concept. Am i saying that Dave writing about himself is bad . No. But he went about it in such a way that Dreamland is now Sickeningly dated to 2020 and because it was a concept they already broached with HTBAHB it wasn't as satisfactory. That. And its all one story. WHICH AGAIN !!!!! ISNT BAD !!!!!!!!!!! but it was a drastic aesthetic change without being a necessarily new conversation to the bands discography.

Leading into Creatures In Heaven, its starting to just look like a Dreamland deluxe edition, and the one song theyre using to promote it is REALLY coming across as such. 😭. Which is just. UGH !!! like the song just sounds like a worse It's All So Incredibly Loud. And i mostly like that song bc that one Actually has the GA sound. The new song just sounds lifeless. It IS glass animals though so there has to be . . . At least ONE banger . . . . That has the GA sound . . . There HAS to be. . . . . On this album . . . . But idk. They're still sticking to the gummy futuristic aesthetic that they used in Dreamland & its just. I dont like it personally.

Zaba and HTBAHB are two distinctly different albums but they both still have a similar vibe. Both had fictional characters for their songs, and the songs lean very heavily into story telling, and while HTBAHB at least WERE based on real experiences, they dont have the same "non-fiction" feel that dreamland has if that makes sense? HTBAHB pulled out the identifiers that placed the songs on a certain timeline, where dreamland right off the bat basically tells you when its set, and because EVERY ARTIST was releasing covid albums, it just doesnt hit the same as their second album.

GA has just. Completely left the story telling they used to do and on top of relying on the same formula for the sound of their songs, they're starting to just write about irl based nothing-stories. And it sucks!

This is so fucking long SORRY but every time i see the mention of heat waves i go into a blind rage because i feel like their potential is being wasted on that song its insane. Its insane. Okay anyways

I’m sooo happy we’re all talking about this. I genuinely don’t find the appeal in dynamite or butter they’re catchy songs but they have no meaning behind it unlike all of the other songs they’ve done. I love that the boys are experimenting and going outside of their normal songs but I feel like because its in English and it’s for the general public (stupid American entertainment business) that it doesn’t really have BTS in it. I found it weird when suga was explaining what butter was about it sounded so dull. Usually when the guys talk about their songs and the meanings it so thoughtful and deep. I honestly just miss the hidden messages they have in their songs I’m so proud of them and how much they’ve accomplished I just hope this stupid western entertainment industry doesn’t fuck with their talent and skills

I wanna say that I don't think appealing to a Western audience is bad. Blending cultures and musical evolution is often a good thing! Someone said this is just like them releasing Japanese tracks and I agree.

I just don't particularly like the way this era is doing it. It's not my style of music and it doesn't feel like BTS to me.

When Monsta X promoted All About Luv people hated it at first because it was different and experimental and in English but kpop is so diverse and it's okay and good to evolve. It's also like one of my favorite albums of all times, no skips, felt very organic in terms of evolution.

I just don't like the streaming culture with Army and the blind "must love every single song and era." It's okay to have likes and dislikes. It's okay to prefer stronger meanings and lyrics like On or Black Swan or older songs like Fake Love.

It's like so cliche and I can think of 10 different shows between 2016 and 2019 that have the exact same tropes and plot LOL but somehow it still got to me 🙈 I can't explain it. I just love it lol.

One of the things I also like is the ost and the general background music, it's nice and diverse and not the same track in every scene lol.

also a big YES to no annoying "i don't like guys"/"but...you're a guy" lines cuz no one needs that lmao. I also like the shifting frenemies vibe between Jin and Bomb. Like they have the classic "A flirts with B who's annoyed af" trope going on, but it's not overdone (and most importantly not cringy) so it's actually entertaining.

The acting is pretty good too!! especially Jin's and Jack's actors are amazing I think.

It's nice to know that other people are watching it too (and talking about it) on here bc I thought I was the only one 🙈 I will definitely continue to gif it! 😊

So let's break it down

1: Screentime and Representation

2: Visuals

IF the chosen media is animation, a good idea would be to shift art styles being Gavaldon and the Schools. Our idea was to make each world be seen through the other’s eyes - SGE’s art  style is a storybook-esque one, whilst Gavaldon, which is shown to the Woods through Sader’s painting, is animated in an oil painting style (example for this style - Loving Vincent). A semi-realistic style would be good for this.

No matter live-action or animation, variation in color palette is a good tool for setting mood - a desaturated, washed out palette for the sequences in Gavaldon, bright vivid colors in SGE, which could get darker as Sophie’s descends into Evil and the rift between her and Agatha gets starker: and to symbolize how unhinged Sophie is, use saturated, harsh colors contrasting with the darkness - perhaps red?

SPEAKING OF GAVALDON - have the clothing and buildings have a picturesque design (as described by the book), but washed out colors to give off the feeling of bleakness it does as you read the book

Have shots in the School for Evil be closer and more claustrophobic, given that sense of prison - which goes well with the fact students of Evil are essentially doomed and hopeless

Meanwhile, shots in the School for Good are wider, focusing on the grandeur of everything

Also slight palette changes on the Tagatha scenes for a dreamy feel

3: Soundtrack

Given the fairy-tale setting, an orchestral soundtrack is the best shot

FOR THE LOVE OF WHATEVER YOU BELIEVE IN. NO. POP. MUSIC. PLEASE

Like seriously ESPECIALLY if its put over a montage it cheapens the production so much hhhhh

Quick diversion: The best setting for pop music in Fantasy scenarios like this is either parody (like say, Shrek lmao) Or to replicate a feeling or highlight the opulence/shallowness of a group - although not fantasy, Marie Antoinette (2006) and Great Gatsby (2013)  are good examples of this

However, SGE really doesn’t fit any of these scenarios so an orchestral music would be the best shot here

Gavaldon should either have a simple, string-instrument based score or be mostly silent

The Real Fun begins at SGE

For the School for Evil, instruments like oboes can create a quite eery feeling - basically a horror movie-esque track

The School Masters theme could borrow some elements from Evil, that get more noticeable once his true nature is revealed

The School for Good could flip between a dainty, delicate track for the Evergirls and a Militaristic, trumpet/horn/etc based track for the Everboys - yes STUPIDLY Gendered but the School for Good is MEANT to be like this

Agathas theme could borrow some aspects of the Everboys’; Tedros’ from the Evergirls’ maybe?

Sophies theme should get more dissonant and chaotic the more Evil she becomes; one single Borrow from modern could be used there - electric guitar paired with classical instruments to add to a chaotic feel

Again: a dreamy feel for the Tagatha scenes - which suits their quick romance and just,,, yeah. Although it uses more electronic sounds, the Blade Runner soundtrack is amazing at these feelings (google “Tears In The Rain” if you havent watched the movie). Curious on how this feel could be translated into orchestra

NOTE: the dreamy feel for Tagatha is because of how distant the memories felt in AWWP and also how brief and kind of rushed it was - a bit like a dream. Plus, it's good for a romantical atmosphere

4: Scenes

So these are some scene ideas 

First is the intro of the movie - it could start with Sophie’s dream. But with a slight change - she dances with various princes, going from prince to prince but always attempting to reach one specific prince. Right as she spins from Prince A’s arms into That Prince, the camera zooms in onto Sophie. When it zooms out, she has stopped and is no longer in the Ball - she’s now sitting in bed as Stefan locks her window

For the very last scene, we could have the palette starting to desaturate again as Sophie and Agatha are sent home Or if we’re going for animation, the art style starts to revert to oil painting - brush strokes start to become noticeable from the corners of the screen as the scenario changes, until Sophie and Agatha are holding each other by the lake. The movie ends in that shot

Neuseeland Teil II - Es ist sooo viel passiert

Zurück in der „Zivilisation“ – zurück im Internet. Aber bevor es weitergeht erstmal ein Sprung 10 Tage zurück, denn siehe oben…

Nachdem es in Te Anau und unserem Ausflug zum Doubtful Sound wettertechnisch nicht besser zu werden schien, beschlossen wir schon früh aufzubrechen um gen Sonne (oder zumindest weniger Regen) zu fahren. Am Vorabend unserer Abreise trafen wir auf unserem Campingplatz bereits eine Gruppe, welche aus dem nahegelegenen Milford Sound (zum Glück hatten wir uns gegen einen Besuch dort und für den weniger touristischen Doubtful Sound entschieden) aufgrund der Regenmassen, Erdrutsche und überfluteten Straßen per Helikopter aus ihren Bussen evakuiert werden musste.

Unser Plan war also recht einfach – früh los und schnell raus aus dem Unwetter in Richtung Queenstown. Leider interessiert sich die Natur nicht für unsere Reisepläne und schon an der Tankstelle wurde uns der freundliche Tipp gegeben auf Grund des Wetters lieber „schön entspannt“ zu fahren.  Bereits nach wenigen Kilometern war uns klar warum - die Straßen standen zum Teil schon massiv unter Wasser, sodass kleinere Autos schon nicht mehr weiterkamen – UWE kam durch – zumindest soweit bis die Straßen dann ganz gesperrt waren. Auf unserer Suche nach einem Weg raus aus dem inzwischen großräumig überschwemmten Gebiet fuhren wir vorbei an reißenden Flüssen (welche eigentlich keine Bäche waren), kamen an Seen vorbei (welche eigentlich Weideland waren), sahen Schafe – welche sich leider für die falsche Seite der Weide entschieden und wahrscheinlich die nächsten Stunden nicht überstanden hatten und führten einen intensiven Schriftverkehr per E-Mail mit unserer Autovermietung, da UWE sich in den letzten Tagen in den Kopf gesetzt hatte noch weniger zu funktionieren als eh schon und sich inzwischen von alleine auf- und zuschließen konnte. Sagen wir mal so – der Tag hätte besser laufen können.

Irgendwann mussten wir dann feststellen, dass es keinen Weg mehr für uns nach Queenstown geben wird (wir waren inzwischen schon den ganzen Weg bis an die Ostküste zurückgefahren – insgesamt legten wir an diesem Tag einen Umweg von über 300km zurück) und entschieden uns also direkt zu unserem nächsten Stop – Wanaka - zu fahren. Hier sollte es zwar auch noch leicht regnen aber für die nächsten Tage war die Prognose doch recht vielversprechend. Kurz vor Wanaka faden wir einen toll gelegenen, kostenfreien Campingplatz direkt an einem See – das Schlechte daran, es regnete in Strömen und war bitterkalt.

Jessi hatte durch die vergangenen Regennächte im kalten und vor allem mittlerweile völlig nassen Camper ordentlich Husten als Plus dazubekommen und auch Luca wurde einfach nicht mehr richtig warm und trocken. Anstatt also kostenfrei zu übernachten entschieden wir uns in unserer „Not“ dazu uns für eine Nacht in der Gegend ein Zimmer zu buchen. Nicht weit von Wanaka entfernt übernachteten wir also in Albert Town bei dem freundlichen Neuseeländer Vaughn. Als normale Unterkunft über Booking gebucht, stellten wir schnell fest – wir waren in unserem ersten AirB&B gelandet. Wie wir beim gemeinsamen Abendessen mit Vaughn und seinen zwei weiteren Gästen (zwei Jungs aus Frankreich) feststellten, waren wir seine ersten Gäste und er hatte seine drei Zimmer erst seit um 06:00 Uhr morgens (desselben Tages) in der Vermietung.

Es war super spannend, gesellig und lustig und vor allem aber warm und trocken – also doch noch ein erfolgreicher Tag.

Am nächsten Morgen gleich das süße i-Tüpfelchen unserer Übernachtung – Vaughn war extra in seiner Frühstückspause zurückgekommen, um sich bei seinen ersten Gästen persönlich zu verabschieden. Danach ging es los nach Wanaka um uns an dem dort gelegenen See (bei schönstem Wetter) die Beine zu vertreten und uns etwas über die Gegend zu informieren. Am See ließen wir dann auch noch etwas die Seele baumeln, gönnten uns ein wirklich verdientes und super leckeres Eis und machten anschließend noch eine kleine Wanderung auf den Mount Iron. Es wurde also zusehends wieder besser und auch unser 300 km Umweg mit Werkstattzwischenstopp hatte sich gelohnt, denn inzwischen kam man aus Te Anau bzw. dem gesamten Süden des Landes gar nicht mehr weg.

Da uns Wanaka und die Umgebung wirklich gut gefallen haben (ein aktiver Ort mit großem Angebot für Unternehmungen, malerischer und mit traumhafter Kulisse) blieben wir noch eine weitere Nacht (dieses Mal wieder mit UWE) und erklommen am nächsten Tag bei einer 6-stündigen Wanderung den Roys Peak – was für ein Erlebnis und was für eine Aussicht - Atemberaubend schön!

Nachdem uns die Wanderung wieder etwas vitalisiert hatte, beschlossen wir den Nachmittag/Abend zu nutzen und noch am selben Tag bis zum Fox Gletscher zu fahren, um unsere Tour entlang der Westküste zu beginnen. Die Strecke war mit 4 Stunden angegeben und sollte somit eine unserer längeren durchgängigen Fahrten sein. Wir wussten zwar, dass die Strecke sehr schön sein soll aber wurden von der Natur und der Landschaft trotzdem umgehauen! Es ist atemberaubend schön und vielfältig. Seen, Berge, diverse Wälder/Regenwälder quer durch das „Haast World Heritage“ (Weltnaturerbe) und alles in einer Unberührtheit und Weitläufigkeit welche seines Gleichen sucht.

Den nächsten Tag begonnen wir wieder früh und wollten uns eigentlich auf zum Fox Glacier machen – eigentlich… Der Wanderweg war leider durch Überschwemmungen nicht passierbar. Also schauten wir uns den nahegelegenen Lake Matheson (mit Blick auf den Mount Tasman und Mount Cook) an und fuhren anschließend weiter zum Franz-Josef-Gletscher, welcher von den Wetterverhältnissen der Vortage nicht so beansprucht wurde und dessen öffentlicher Pfad zugänglich war. Der Tag war allerdings danach immer noch recht jung und wir fuhren weiter über Ross (wo wir uns eine alte Goldgräberstätte anschauten) nach Hokitika wo wir uns einen Moment am Meer gönnten (hier haben wir unser erstes Hokey Pokey Eis probiert – sagenhaft lecker) und dann einen Abstecher weiter ins Land hinein zum Hokitika Gorge machten. Dieser Flussabschnitt ist bekannt für sein kristallblaues Wasser. Bei uns war es leider etwas bewölkt, aber dadurch hatte das Wasser ein ganz spannendes Grau, welches wir so bei Gewässern auch noch nicht gesehen hatten. Gerne hätten wir hier noch etwas länger verweilt, allerdings hatten es die etlichen kleinen Sandflys mächtig auf uns abgesehen und wir waren nach kürzester Zeit zerstochen. An diesem Abend fanden wir auf dem Rückweg nach Hokitika einen süßen kostenfreien Campingplatz zwischen einer Alpacca-Weide, einer Wiese mit einem großen Schwein und Hühnern – einfach toll 😊

Am nächsten Morgen stellten wir dann fest, dass auf der anderen Straßenseite ein Reittournier stattfand und sämtliche junge Mädchen aus der Gegend auf ihren Ponys und Pferden angeritten kamen. Ein guter Start in den Tag. Nach einem weiteren Besuch in Hokitika (und einem Geburtstagsanruf über eine Free-Wifi-Telefonzelle bei Abele) führte unser Weg uns über Lake Brunner (an welchen wir leider nicht richtig rankamen, da dort ein Radrennen stattfand) und über eine weitere, sehr interessante alte Goldmiene nach Greymouth. Da einer von Lucas FlipFlops reiß-ausgenommen hatte und irgendwo zwischen Wanaka und Fox Gletscher unautorisiert das Auto verlassen hatte, nutzten wir einen kurzen Regenschauer in Greymouth um für Luca neue FlipFlops zu besorgen und unsere Kühlbox mal wieder mit Essen zu füllen. Timing ist halt alles – mit einem wieder gut ausgestattetem Camper und Sonnenschein genossen wir die Wellen am Strand und liefen danach noch den Point Elisabeth Walk – welcher der bisher spektakulärste und einsamste war – und genossen am Ziel den exklusiven Blick (wir waren vollkommen alleine) auf das stürmische Meer und eine Seehund-Familie, welche sich auf den raunen Felsen sonnte.

Unsere Tage beginnen immer sehr früh und die Sonne geht erst spät unter und somit nutzten wir unsere Zeit und fuhren noch am selben Abend die ersten Kilometer auf der Great Coast Roat bis zu den Pancake Rocks. Die Namen beider Sehenswürdigkeiten sind Programm. Die Great Coast Road verläuft direkt an den Klippen, fast auf dem Meer (zurecht als einer der schönsten Highways der Welt bekannt) und schlängelt sich über etliche Kilometer an der Westküste entlang – die Pancake Rocks sehen tatsächlich aus wie große Berge aufeinander gestapelter Pfannkuchen und sind besonders am Abend, bei langsam untergehender Sonne und rauer werdendem Meer ein echtes Spektakel, wenn die Wellen in die Buchten spülen und an den Felsen brechen. Nach den Pancake Rocks war dann aber auch dieser Tag einmal zu Ende.

Bei wieder schönstem Wetter und nach einem warmen Frühstück mit anschließendem Strandspaziergang führte unser Weg uns wieder auf die Great Coast Road und zum Fox River.

Beim Fox River wanderten wir los um einen Track zu laufen, welcher durch mehrere kleine Höhlen führen sollte – auch hier hatte der Regen jedoch seine Spuren hinterlassen und der Weg zu den Höhlen war leider durch einen Erdrutsch versperrt. Also liefen wir wieder zurück zum Parkplatz (wo auch zufällig der jeden Sonntag stattfindende Fox River Market war) und genossen weiter die Strecke bis nach Westport wo wir uns eine Seehundkolonie in freier Wildbahn anschauten und die letzte Gelegenheit zum Tanken vor unserer Weiterfahrt gen Norden nutzten. Das Tagesziel für heute – Motueka am Rande des Abel Tasman National Park, welches wir über eine wieder spannende Landschaft, geprägt von Weinbergen und Hofpen-Anbau erreichten.

In Motueka besuchten wir am nächsten Morgen direkt die I-Site um uns für den Folgetag einen Kajakausflug im Nationalpark zu buchen (UWE hat durch seinen schlechten Zustand einiges an Geld wieder in die Reisekasse gespült, sodass wir uns dieses Highlight einmal ganz bedenkenlos gönnen konnten). Für diesen Tag war allerdings nach den ereignisreichen Vortagen erst einmal Entspannung angesagt und somit bekamen wir in Kaiteriteri am Strand schon einmal einen Vorgeschmack von der beeindruckenden Landschaft im Nationalpark.

Voller Vorfreude und mit einigen Ladungen an Sonnencreme im Gesicht machten wir uns dann einen Tag später in Marahau auf zu unserem Kajak-Verleih. Wir hatten uns am Vortag bereits über die ganzen Trecker gewundert, welche entlang des Wassers geparkt standen – heute sollten wir die Antwort erhalten. Wir hatten uns für einen Ausflug entschieden, welcher uns per Wassertaxi zur Torrent Bay bringen sollte, von welcher aus wir dann 9 km zum Observation Beach wanderten um dort unseren Guide zu treffen und mit dem Kajak auf dem Meer zurück nach Marahau zu fahren. Es hat auch alles wunderbar geklappt und es war eine sagenhafte Erfahrung in mal wieder spektakulärer, umwerfender Natur. Und wir wissen jetzt auch, was es mit den Treckern auf sich hat: diese ziehen einen Anhänger mit dem Wassertaxi (Boot) und Passagieren beladen. Das heißt, man steigt bei dem Taxiunternehmen auf das Boot, wird dann auf dem Anhänger von dem Trecker bis hinein ins Meer gezogen und dann bei einem Rückwärtsmanöver mit Vollbremsung vom Anhänger abgeladen – muss man mal erlebt haben – kann man sich nur schwer vorstellen – wäre in Deutschland sicherlich verboten.

Mit dem Wassertaxi ging es dann also nach Torrent Bay (einer kleinen Bucht mit lediglich ein paar kleinen Gästehäusern für Wanderer, welche eine mehrtägige Wanderung unternehmen), dort starteten wir unsere Wanderung welche uns auf einem kleinen, gewundenen Pfad über „Cleopatras Pool“ die Küste entlang führte.

Dank unseres ordentlichen Lauftempos waren wir gut 45 Minuten vor erwarteter Zeit am Ausgangspunkt für unsere Kajak-Tour und konnten am Strand noch eine ausgiebige Mittagspause genießen bevor es dann endlich aufs Wasser ging. Neben unserem Guide Corbin waren nur noch zwei junge Britinnen mit uns unterwegs, welche sich als sportlich und koordinatorisch als mäßig talentiert rausstellten – sie sind die ganze Zeit im Zickzack oder im Kreis gefahren und haben Corbin und uns regelmäßig gerammt.

Da wir nach einem erneut ereignisreichen Tag keine große Lust auf eine längere Weiterfahrt hatten, beschlossen wir im Anschluss nochmals eine Nacht auf dem kostenfreien Parkplatz in Motueka zu verbringen. Am nächsten Morgen ging es dann in aller Frühe (der Parkplatz muss leider bis 7:00 Uhr geräumt sein) weiter Richtung Nelson. Mit den Städten in Neuseeland ist es jedoch bis Weilen etwas schwierig. Diese gleichen in der Regel nämlich mehr dem was wir ein Dorf nennen und konnten die in Prospekten recht hochgeschraubten Erwartungen bisher nur in ein paar Fällen erfüllen. So auch Nelson, eigentlich ein ganz netter Ort, aber um einen ganzen Tag zu füllen hat es dann doch nicht gereicht. Also nach einem weiteren Werkstattbesuch (wir versuchen noch immer den Steinschlag aus Woche 1 zu beheben, doch auch dieses Mal ohne Erfolg) weiter Richtung Picton, denn wir hatten für Donnerstag, also heute, eine Fähre zur Nordinsel gebucht. Da wir die Reiseplanung für den Norden noch etwas vorantreiben wollten haben wir uns auf halber Strecke auf einem kleinen, süßen und  kostenfreien Campingplatz (ausgelegt für 6 Fahrzeuge – wir waren eines der ersten – am Ende haben sich jedoch über 20 Autos reingequetscht) eingerichtet um noch etwas zu entspannen und zu planen.

Der nächsten Morgen sollte eigentlich entspannt starten fand aber durch eine Armada an Sandflies ein jähes Ende und so wurde das Frühstück an einen weiteren kleinen Platz entlang der Strecke durch Neuseelands größte Weinregion verlegt. In Picton angekommen erkundeten wir noch ein wenig den Ort um anschließend für unsere Fähre einzuchecken. Die Fährstrecke gilt als eine der mit Abstand schönsten der Welt und sie hat unsere Erwartungen um Längen übertroffen. Die Fahrt auf der Cook-Straße ist wirklich absolut spektakulär und führt direkt durch die Fjorde der Marlborough Sunds (ganz im Norden der Südinsel) bis nach Wellington. Da es mit Camper ohne Fähre nun mal nicht geht, definitiv ein mehr als lohnenswertes „Übel“ 😉. Kurz vor Fahrtantritt haben wir noch schnell den Kilometerstand gecheckt und waren dann doch etwas erschrocken wie viel wir im Süden tatsächlich abgespult hatten…Nun also die Nordinsel.  Wir sind gespannt und voller Vorfreude!

one of the best vocal performances live she’s ever managed, and this song really transcends to another level and takes you with it. It’s a highly emotive song and although not written by ariana max ect writers were really feelin it and I appreciate that

can you say underrated? this absolute ballad banger has never been done justice and it’s honestly criminal- sometimes I wish I could find a cover that sings it with the emotion it deserves, she sang it well on tour but it’s a dark gritty sing in a back alleyway with a trenchcoat and sexy cigarette lit type song and deserved a break it never got. I scream this one alone to myself all the time, that bastard ripped my heart out and deserves to be scolded, y’know?

Bad Decisions

listen, this song is junk food. it’s so bad but I can’t help but consume it. She sings about having a fucking ‘hood love’ and only just started getting the blacklash this year like its new. but anyway, like pop off to this club hit bc it’ll rot your insides but you’ll have fun all the way down 

Thinkin Bout You

sexy, masturbation song that sounds fuzzy and warm. it’s soft like the linen i imagine her to be wrapped in and no sharp corners - it’s a good study in the soft intimacy of sexual relationships, it’s one of the better songs about a relationships that isn’t just about dick in hole, and the tour visuals were stunning for it

Greedy

shoulda been the 3rd single for tour - it’s just a good basic pop song with some good unique concepts and the tour money and choreo was iconic, it was the best to watch and looked the most fun to perform. I liked this one a whole lot when it first dropped but probably because i just like good basic pop if a bit repetitive with no real substance 

Sometimes

so light and summery and airy imo. It’s got good vibes and good memories because this was the song she interacted with fans during on tour - it was all about smiles and weightlessness, which obviously is nice to reminisce about now that so much trauma has happened to bring everything down

Side To Side

way too overplayed at this point but it was much higher up my list when it first came out, i always knew this one was gonna smash as a single and it was such a good job scooter came back and pushed it hard, I think it’s another mindless pop song but obviously it went on to be such a good club hit and commercial success which is awesome 

Be Alright

I’ve been up and down with this song a lot, it’s never been my fave but i like the message and it’s meant more in the last couple of years- I like that the choreo is so iconic now and it was her best tour outfit. I like that she likes this one and keeps it up bc it’s very inoffensive to the ears, again a bit overplayed now i never really liked the big instrumentals part of it 

Into You

a lot of people’s fave, a single that almost did it. Again, never my favourite and kinda had the feeling of always a bridesmaid never a bride. It had a good mv but was woefully underpromoted which is a shame. It’s a good song and I like when it comes on now but just never fucked with it when it was around a lot - another basic song with a basic concept and basic delivery tbh 

Knew Better/Forever Boy

good concepts separately but I didn’t think they were good together, they deserved to be separate or not at all. i like the edits of these songs better than the song itself

Dangerous Woman

the reason why we never got the full ‘moonlight’ album that we deserved - it wasn’t great for her voice, severely under-utilizing it, although she makes up for that in performances of this song. It was an interesting sound experiment but none of the rest of the album it’s named after sounded like this- even if it did have some of the only instruments used on it. The mv was fine but boring, and it just didn’t deserve to be the title track, this was the inspo for the quickly dropped latex bunny persona and lots of issues, this song was the driving factor for scooter getting fired that one time ect its just got bad memories and really fucked a lot of shit up for me honestly

Let Me Love You

bad unoriginal title and the feature ruined it, the snippet we got before the album drop was just ariana’s part and the song sounded like it was gonna be soooo good, but then the rap happened. I still think ariana’s bit is good but the song turned out to be a bust, though we got some curls action in the mv which was pretty cool

Everyday

a plague on our senses, this repetitive trash really got made a single for some god awful reason, there’s nothing special about it, the mv was icky (for the blatant sex,  not the diversity that was featured) and i just didn’t ask for any of it I was so pissed when this happened, it wasn’t funny ariana 

I Don’t Care

i’ve had it out for this song since day 1 and i’ve never been able to shake it, are tlic and everyday worse songs? yes, but this remains as my least favourite song in her discography, in order to keep this sort I’ll just say that I have an essay’s worth of reasons why this song is repugnant to me from the sound of the music to the meaning of the lyrics and you can’t change my mind. this one is the worst one and i can’t help the burning rage that sparks when i think of it

Here, Meat Loaf’s famous “Paradise by the Dashboard Light” is given the C&THB treatment, much to its detriment. Apparently, according to the album’s intended audience, Ivy, this was one of the last of the songs off of COMEBACK that Chris wrote or recorded. Why Chris would choose to do such a long song for something he was just slapping together at the end of the album is puzzling. Like “Wuthering Heights”, “Paradise by the Dashboard Light” is not a song for the faint of heart. At its longest it’s eight minutes long and has multiple sections that vary wildly. While I appreciate Chris’s attempts to be musically diverse on this album, attempting rap, disco, art rock, and even a little rock and roll, none of these are genres Chris shows any competency at. Apparently Ivy had some say in the songs, so she might be responsible for the wide array of songs on the album (though Sparkle Like You Mean It, while not as diverse as COMEBACK, at least strays into more eclectic territory than the first album).

After “(Clyde’s) Trollsta’s Paradise”, this is the second song off this album to not be about Ivy, rather, her two pet hermit crabs, Crass and Champ. As previously mentioned, both crabs were male, much like the trolls they were named after, but Chris got it into his head that Champ was in fact a female, so Chris assigns the male part of this song to Crass and the female part to Champ. Most of the very few lines Chris changes from the original version are to identify the singers as such, the other scattered changes attempt to paint an aquatic picture of the scene, such as the title change (what is a “seashore light”, anyway?) Looking through the leaked documents of Chris’s lyrical changes, “Paradise by the Seashore Light” is conspicuously absent, the only song that wasn’t a cover to not have a sheet detailing the lyrical changes, indicating how slight said changes were.

Here Chris tries to sing a duet on his own, and now’s as good a chance as ever to discuss his inability to differentiate voices. The men’s part is his normal singing voice and the women’s part is a shrill falsetto, and the parts he can’t assign or parts they both sing he mumbles.

I suppose he at least understands his source material somewhat better - recall that the plot of “Paradise by the Dashboard Light” ends with the girl refusing to sleep with the boy until he promises to love her till the end of time, which overcome with desire he does on an impulse, then the story cuts to years down the line where they regret every minute of their relationship after that point, where they’re praying for the end of time to end the vow that they would love each other till the end of time. He at least had the sense to give the song to their comical beta couple Crass and Champ and not have it be about him and Ivy.

Chris cuts the entire famous Phil Rizzuto baseball metaphor section, either because he didn’t have a third voice on him to do for it, or he thought that the baseball metaphor wouldn’t fit in with the underwater theme, or he didn’t get the baseball equaling sex, or he just wanted to save time (he does shave a minute off the song, but it’s still seven and a half minutes long).

I was looking at that J idol singing live thread. So is this why performances for Japanese audiences seem to be more LIVE and real sounding? I always think they turn down the back track when they perform for Japan. Also on a SJ diversion (everything revolves around him IMO🤪) Do you think this is why Japan loves him so much? armageddon (mv) initial thoughts:

this is absolutely the culmination of their career so far. visually + sonically this is exactly what i expected and wanted from their first album TT. it makes so much sense + imo every member shined soo beautifully on this track bc it suits their unique charms and charisma (especially and finally giselle we are so in her era 🤍🤍🤍). imo this is their most interesting choreo ever; it suits the song well + highlights their strengths as idol dancers. the stages + performance videos are gonna be amazing.

on a personal level, i prefer supernova as a song. i think it was absolutely the best decisions to have supernova as the pre-release/first TT to usher in the era. it's so fun and high energy and a great song to start off summer. armageddon provides the drama and connection to their debut sound while also amping up the concept we've always loved from them. together they sooo perfectly show the duality of the group + their concept. it's the same energy as having spicy + drama as back to back cbs but having them combined to show people just how diverse aespa is while still sticking solidly to their concept and sound was genius

overall opinion: genuinely could not have asked for more or better for them. i actually cried at the end of the mv bc im so happy for them. they've waited for this for so long and endured so much hate and sidelining that they deserved for this to be absolutely amazing, and SM has finally come through and delivered everything that these girls deserved. im just so so proud of them and absolutely in love with these TTs
