Summary: It’s nearly time for the littlest Lantern to fly free. Jason is having a hard time letting go. This chapter: About that "don't let the trainee Lantern engage in combat" rule...
The roof of Central is crawling with… things. Zombies? Something like that—grey-skinned people dressed in black and white with odd symbols on their chests. One of them is spawning all kinds of little doll-like ghosts. Deadly dolls, armed with guns that are anything but toys if how they're currently mowing down cops left and right is anything to go by. Cops whose own guns seem to have little to no effect on the ghosts.
"Is that… Is that Arnold Wesker?" Tim whispers.
"Who?"
"Ventriloquist," he explains as they drop lower and silently land atop the roof access, hoping to get the drop on the villains. Stealth has always been one of the strongest tools in their arsenal, and something almost completely out of their reach these days with how the power rings insist on wrapping them up in faint auras of light. "But he looks dead. And I think that's Blockbuster next to the signal, and he really looks dead."
"I remember Blockbuster." The guy was part of the reason Jason crossed paths so little with Dick before he ditched Red Hood's grand plan in favor of space. Blockbuster was busy running Nightwing ragged over in Blüdhaven and doing such a thorough job of it that Jason didn't want to risk sticking his nose in. "Someone brought some of Batman and Nightwing's enemies back from the dead to terrorize the GCPD?"
"Or made corpse-like copies. And they're gunning for Batman, too," Tim whispers, pointing to where zombie Blockbuster is tilting the Bat-Signal this way and that, a picture of impatience.
