to the rescue // teen! ben hargreeves x reader
Tumblr media
summary: when it’s your turn to be parenting experiment of the week, ben decides to take matters into his own hands—or, rather, tentacles.
request (by a lovely lovely anon💕): Hi I adore your writing❤️. Can you do a Ben Hargreeves x reader where the reader is restrained in a cell by Reginald and Ben comes and saves the day. Thx
words: 1893
warnings: emotional manipulation (it’s prick of the year reginald hargreeves, what do we expect), imprisonment
a/n: i feel like this one is right shit bc i wasn’t in a really good groove while writing it but ANYWAY please enjoy our bb boy:))))) (also!! empath!reader)
✖️✖️✖️
Dad stands in your doorway, intimidating as always, light glinting off his ever-present monocle. “Number Eight,” he says—crisp, harsh, and clear. “Come with me. Today we have a different form of training for you.”
“Where are we going?” you ask him. He’s not leading you towards the usual training room, and you’re without a partner—something you’ve never trained without due to your empathic abilities.
“Never you mind,” he says bluntly. You sigh, looking down at your feet. Trying to get information out of Dad is unnecessarily difficult sometimes—and you can’t read him as easily as you can your siblings. He’s scarily good at hiding his emotions.
He leads you down a few corridors before pausing and taking a blindfold out of his coat pocket. “Turn around.”
“Why? Where are we going?” You’re a bit worried now. “Turn around, Number Eight,” he repeats, harsher this time. “I do not have time for your questions.” You’ve got no choice, so you do as he says. The blindfold is tight—a bit too much so, but you know it’s pointless to bring it up. The two of you walk in silence for several minutes—you don’t think you’ve left the house, but your steps haven’t followed a route you’re familiar with. The Academy is big, though—maybe you’ve misjudged and you’re really just being led in circles to confuse you. Dad’s voice cuts through your thoughts, telling you to watch your step. You carefully move into some sort of space, confused as to why you’ve stopped. His hands come up to the nape of your neck, untying the blindfold from around your eyes. The fabric drops away to reveal a dark, metallic room with no furnishings. You’ve never seen it before or heard Dad talk about it—it almost looks like some sort of prison, and anxiety begins to push up into your chest. “Uh, Dad? Where are we?” you ask, fear making its way into your voice. You silently curse yourself for it—Dad hates any display of weakness. He doesn’t answer, instead busying himself with a huge hydraulic lock on the outside of the door. This does nothing to help your growing panic. “Dad?” you ask a few more times, voice rising with each repetition. “Dad!” “You will stay here until I let you out. He finally answers, still not looking at you. “Goodbye, Number Eight.” He steps out of the chamber, locks hissing as the door seals itself behind him. Your brain enters full-blown panic, and you bang on the door, screaming for him to come back. You no longer care about showing weakness—tears spill over your cheeks as Dad’s back fades away and your banging grows weaker and weaker. When your voice gets too hoarse to yell and you’re convinced no one can hear you, you sink to the ground in a miserable heap. After a few minutes of crying, you sit up weakly and attempt to clear your head. You’ve never seen this chamber or the hallway it’s situated in before, but it logically has to be within the Academy somewhere. Maybe it’s underground or in a wing you’ve never been allowed access to? You instinctively close your eyes, reaching out to see if you can pick up on anyone’s emotions. Usually, you can sense your siblings from across the house, but the impenetrable walls of your cell and your admittedly less-than-functional mental state don’t help your case. You give up after a few minutes of mental searching and rest your forehead against the cold metal of one of the walls. And, since you have literally nothing else to do, you think. Clearly, this is one of Dad’s experiments—probably not too far off from when he’d lock Klaus in the mausoleum or when he’d throw dangerous weapons at Diego to see if he could save himself. They historically haven’t gone so well, as both siblings have ended up scarred—Klaus emotionally and Diego physically. You’re a bit worried as to what he has in store for you, but you’re not about to let yourself get hurt if you can help it. It’s likely that Dad’s locked you up to see how your abilities react to not being around people and their constantly-changing emotions. Maybe he thinks you’ll wither away. Perhaps it’s the opposite, and he’s examining the possibility of you tapping into your own feelings. Whatever the case may be, you resolve to try and remain as positive as you can about the situation, so you push down your fear and focus on happier things. Inevitably, almost embarrassingly, your thoughts roam to Ben. He’s the quietest of your siblings, always nose-deep in a book or sitting in silent contemplation. Despite his antisocial nature, the two of you have formed a close bond over the years. You find the contrast of his visceral power with his shy nature interesting, and he’s been perfectly content to sit and listen to you babble away about everything and nothing.
There’s also the fact that the two of you usually get paired together for training, since you can’t read him as easily as you can your other siblings. Dad says it’s likely because of the alien presence underneath his skin—the tendrils block his human presence somehow. And so, to create the biggest challenge for you, Dad’s made you spend hours on end with Ben, studying what feelings you can discern in order to strengthen your abilities. While some would become frustrated by the lack of ease you’ve experienced, it only eggs you on. You find Ben absolutely fascinating—a feeling that’s deepened over the years until you’ve come to accept the fact that you’re crushing on him, hard. Despite wearing your heart on your sleeve at all times, you’ve desperately tried to keep your feelings hidden—you can’t have any way of knowing if he returns those feelings, and your embarrassment would be supreme if he found out and didn’t feel the same.
Your cheeks heat up as your mind drifts to his jet-black hair, fine features, and adorably shy nature. There’s nothing better to do, so you let your mind spin scenarios of the two of you together—holding hands, going on small dates, cuddling on the couch. The thoughts stir a fluttering warmth in your chest that makes your present circumstances slightly more bearable. You hardly notice your breaths evening out and your eyelids blinking slower and slower as you daydream away.
You start awake an indeterminate amount of time later. You can’t remember falling asleep, and you have absolutely no way of knowing how much time has passed since Dad locked you up. Your crooked perception of time pales, however, to your all-consuming thirst. There’s no compartments or nooks anywhere that could be hiding a water supply—just smooth metal walls. Sinking back against the door, you try your hardest not to think about the dryness in your throat crying out to be lessened.
You judge it to be a few hours later when you see movement out of the corner of your eye. Instantly, you sit up, hoping it’s Dad come to let you free—but what you see instead is a million times better.
Ben’s sprinting down the hallway leading to your cell, face overtaken with concern. When he gets close enough to see you, he visibly softens. He tries to say something, but the thick hydraulic door blurs his words together. You shrug, pointing to your ears and shaking your head. He tries again, pointing to you with questioning eyes. You okay?
You nod, secretly thinking yes, now that you’re here. His brows are still knit together with worry, so you smile to reassure him that you really are okay. His eyes roam over your face for a few moments before he blinks and takes a step back, motioning for you to do the same. You’re not sure what he’s going to do, but you trust him completely.
He doubles down on himself before flailing his limbs out and arching his back. His tentacles erupt out of his stomach, lashing out and latching onto the huge handle of your cell door. The metal and glass shriek at the new pressure before slowly but surely bending from the force of Ben’s attack. When they’re broken enough to satisfy him, his tentacles retract and he scrambles forward to open the door separating the two of you.
As soon as you can slip through the door, you rush into his arms, wrapping him in a fierce hug. He hesitates for the briefest moment before returning the embrace. After being by yourself for so long, his arms feel so good around you, and your heart leaps in your chest as you catch a whiff of his smell—comforting and exciting all at once. Even though you could stay right here in his arms forever, you pull away slightly after several moments.
“How’d you know I was here?” you ask, grinning at the look of relief on Ben’s face.
“I thought it was weird when Dad didn’t schedule me to train with you like we usually would. No one knew where you went, so after a few hours, I decided to try and find you. Earlier I saw Dad coming out of a doorway I’d never seen anyone use before, so I used that as my starting place and, well—he’s got a bunch of charts monitoring how you’re doing. I knew I was in the right place. I’m just glad you’re okay,” he says, voice getting quieter. “I was really worried.”
“We’ve been through worse,” you laugh, but his eyes don’t brighten at your joke.
“This is different, though,” he answers, voice rising again in anger. “He literally locked you up, I mean—that’s actually insane. No father should ever do that to their child.”
“I’m sure he means well,” you say weakly, but you both know it’s not true. Dad really only cares about himself. There’s a beat, then Ben speaks again.
“You sure you’re all right?” His eyes are sad and searching as they look into yours.
Summoning your courage, you say, “I am now that you’re here.” Ben’s eyes widen immediately, scanning your face almost hopefully. The corners of his mouth tilt up slowly, almost hesitantly—as if he’s afraid to let himself go completely.
“Good, ‘cause I don’t know what I’d do if you weren’t,” he breathes, and you notice that the distance between the two of you is narrowing. Just a few more inches and your foreheads would be touching—and so you take it upon yourself to both reassure and thank Ben in one motion. You tilt your head forward and gently press your lips to his.
His breath hitches at the contact, body freezing for the briefest of moments before his hands come up to cup your jaw. You smile and whisper a thank you against his lips before drawing back a fraction. Ben’s eyes are slow to open, and his cheeks are flushed when they finally do, gazing at you with so much half-lidded admiration your heart swells. You press a soft kiss to his cheek, and you don’t need your powers to tell you that somehow, Ben is just as smitten with you as you are with him.
And when the two of you are given an inevitable harsh scolding in Dad’s office, you can’t bring yourself to care much—you’re too focused on how Ben’s fingers are laced gently around yours.

shadow and bone 5-8
okay first   -you know the more i think about it the more pissed i am that botkin only did show up for a hot second -i hope he shows up more if there's another season but?????? what a MISSED opportunity with alina!!!!! like!!!!!!!!!!! i can't believe it honestly  -not ONLY is there more of him in the book!! but it would've been great with alina being shu!!!!  -they really didn't think that through, did they. botkin is RIGHT THERE and they missed him  -take out nina and put in botkin!! or take out all the crows and give them the justice they deserve in their own season and put in botkin!!!! (the books, as enjoyable as they were to read, still suffer so much in terms of pacing and not having a super tight plot and the show should’ve taken advantage of the opportunity to make changes to make it better and 90% of the time the show just finds a way to drop the ball!!!!!!!!!!!!)
-also i don't remember what article i read this in, if it was the slate one or a different one, about alina deserving a teacher who doesn't, know you, beat her with a stick  -like, as usual! ON THE ONE HAND baghra is allowed to be a character that's not a good person. characters are allowed to not be good people. that's fine. i like baghra!  -on the other hand..............................................don't smack your students nobody learns from being smacked around
i was really excited to see alina not take the path baghra told her to -- because again i had been disappointed to see the show not make any major changes to make the plot better (crows interacting with alina doesn’t count bc as people have rightly pointed out, the crows plotline really doesn’t matter here it’s just them having a good time and filling in space) so to see alina do something different and actually show a lot of agency and be competent on her own was great!!!! wish it hadn’t taken like five episodes to get there, though!!!! i know a lot of it is because she’s completely out of her element in the little palace but that’s a big complaint about alina across the board, that she doesn’t have the most distinct personality, and to see her thinking for herself and especially thinking outside of mal was nice also her getting in the carriage the crows are stealing was the funniest thing  oh but her setting the maps on fire in episode one does not count, because that was completely unnecessary, there was no reason to not just have all the cartographers go in the first place like in the book.
-i was kind of rooting for arken, because he was just enjoyable with the crows, and because i just completely forgot about kaz seeing him meeting zlatan, but good for kaz for being on top of that, that’s my boy
-that’s a shame about marie  -but uhhhhhhhhh -“i don’t want to die with the wrong face on” i get what she’s saying but i thought that was. weird
in the continuing ‘nina and alina have similar things happening and i still don’t know what to make of it????????????’ thoughts, nina and matthias trying to keep warm / alina and mal trying to keep warm, matthias being afraid of nina / mal not being afraid of alina i love nina a lot but i am just not invested in nina here  oh and nina was spying for the darkling??? i don’t have the energy to think about if that tracks for nina’s character  also i never thought about how kind of uncomfortable all her lewd lines are, not because matthias is uncomfortable, but because nina comes off sounding less teasing or flirty and more kind of pushy and creepy  they’ve only known each other for............how long  what is even time here
-it’s not that baghra isn’t threatening but........no it’s that baghra wasn’t threatening  -her talking to the darkling was like. it was weird? there should be so much weight and power in them talking to each other
-i did like that she said to alina that the darkling had a lot of practice manipulating naive girls cause, yeah girl that’s what it was -you thought you decided to kiss him yourself???? you think he was really surprised??????? nnnnnnnnnnnnnno  -the thing is i have like very little sympathy for the darkling. very little. i get the allure, everybody who was ever a teenager gets the allure of the dark emo boy wearing all black with the tortured past, i’ve been there!!! i did my time!!!!!!  -i am still doing my time. we’ve all seen kaz.  -and yes i suppose ben barnes is. good-looking. -look it’s the beard. i just hate that beard. -and the darkling and alina are, not an interesting pair, but interesting halves  -two people with completely opposite powers, one who knows how to use them and has for centuries and the other who just discovered them, both the exact match for the other in terms of dark/light and scope of ability and lifespan, who are looking for a place of belonging but also a place of power  -and then he puts a collar on her to use her as his own personal weapon and their possible existence on even playing ground stops, cementing the gap in power dynamics that has been there from the start in their relationship, and always would be, and confirming him as manipulative power-hungry jackass #1 who doesn’t care about grisha or ravka but himself  -and he deserves what he gets in the end. (both times, even!!!!)  -so much so that the demon in the wood is included in the back of ruin and rising and when i got to it i was like ‘okay but the dude’s dead now so i don’t care about this sudden backstory i am being given’ and i did not read it. to this day. i have not.
-also the darkling kisses alina like he’s physically attacking her and you know what??? that tracks, i guess
-i love the heartbeat in the scenes with a heartrender!!! i think that was a nice touch.  -i also love all the little hints about jesper being grisha
-i don’t remember much about zoya in the trilogy since most recently i read rule of wolves but i do not recall zoya sleeping around with everybody and i don’t like it  -zoya’s very proud but??? even there she kind of kept to herself, didn’t she  -she literally has a million better things to be doing than fucking everybody  -and they just fling zoya’s aunt out there???? sure fine whatever  -we get zero good zoya content and then you just give that  -and now she and alina are friends enough for her to say a witty pithy hero statement?????????  -uggggg
-we saw luda for a hot second so i do not care about her!!!!!  -must it always be For The Death Of A Woman
-“most grisha aren’t fighters. they fix things, they make things.” wow i love that line a whole lot
-inej is just gonna sew the wound herself!!!! a legend!!!!!!  -and then inej just STABBING THE DARKLING and kaz BONKING A VOLCRA ON THE HEAD -i love them with my whole stupid heart i love them  -like.......something something the best characters in this bright stunning magic world are the non-magical characters vibing on an entirely different plotline  - ~wring magic out of the ordinary~
-it is necessary to have the bones under alina’s skin. no  -noooooooooooooooooooo -noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!
-mal saying “you’ll wish you killed me here!” oh boy yeah he will!!!!! also, you tell him, mal
-milo coming in HOT  -goat ex machina
-“telling you half a story is not the same as lying” what are you, a child???? -man alina fucking slam dunks him in the tent! good for her.
-i love snarky characters but again. jesper does it ALL THE TIME that his lines start to sound repetitive or he’s just doing snarky plot nutshelling
-“remember who’s driving” WHAT ARE YOU, A CHILD?????? -in the last two episodes specifically i was like ‘WHAT is with this dialogue???’
-alina: /reaching for mal on the skiff  me: are you gonna. do the hint  me: oh well it’s fine if you don’t, alina deserves that
-actually, i would kill for The New Crew of kaz, inej, jesper, alina, mal, and zoya -what a team..........what a time......... me: kaz is gonna say the thing he’s gonna say it kaz: the deal is the deal me: /fingerguns at the tv
-oh re: is kaz too soft here  -................................actually yeah, maybe a little
-with kaz having the hair pin instead of alina and mal selling the pin(s) for money, how will the darkling find alina? -not necessarily a BAD thing. just a thought
-overall, did i like it??????? i don’t know!! some things were enjoyable!! sure failed at A WHOLE FUCKING LOT, THOUGH  -i do know i’m gonna reread six of crows, though
-i just had a terrible thought. if we get a season 2 and they do the sea whip there's gonna be so many dawn treader jokes, aren't there.

♡ + binch if u wanna play this game take this - tell us about Ben's childhood; what are the first things he remembers regarding his parents? Regarding Snoke? What sort of distortions did he have growing up the really began impacting his upbringing in major ways? What was the tipping point that really sent him to the point of no return? Also pls talk about Poppy bc I love,,,
I REMEMBER THIS MEME but have a song anyway. || @galacticdebt
Tumblr media
What he remembers best is the praise and love they had given him. Attention was something he craved, and while he didn’t get it often, he cherished it when he did. He learned at a young age that his parents had very demanding lifestyles and couldn’t always dote on him. It hurt, and it made him much less quick to trust people or want to open up to others because they could be gone or busy in an instant when he needed them. It made him more shy, more anxious around people because he never knew when a ‘good time’ to talk to someone was because of it.
He had nightmares from infancy onward, finding them more and more scary as he got older and could remember them more vividly. It made him irritable and cranky, not getting a lot of sleep, so he was more argumentative and volatile with his parents. As he got even older, into his teen years, his nightmares REALLY took shape into being invasive and manipulative. Certain actions in his dreams could almost be felt physically to the point where Ben felt violated when he woke up. Abuse faced there seemed to leave marks on his body in reality, and it made him isolate himself that much more.
Being sent to train as a Jedi put a rift between him and his parents, even moreso as the nightmares had progressed. Snoke’s words were fatherly, but dangerous. They planted sickened trees in his mind, blooming into disease-spreading branches. Every day it grew more into him that his parents must have hated him, wanted him out of the way, and that’s why they sent him to Luke. Snoke even painted Luke as one to neglect him, pointing out that he spent time with other more promising students and that he was simply just taking care of Ben out of obligation. It struck a chord with him, it made him think more critically of Luke’s reprimands and lessons, taking them more and more as personal attacks against him, finding ways to say he can’t do anything correctly.
Snoke’s influence had brainwashed Ben, making him think some things were said that were not. He misremembered things, heard words and entire conversations differently, so much so that he was thought to have a bad memory, or just being dramatic when things simply didn’t go the way he said they did. It was troubling, and it made him isolated from his peers that much more. It made him feel crazy. Was he misremembering things? Was everyone around him just lying to make him feel like he was misremembering? He had no idea that it was truly Snoke gaslighting him all along. Snoke was his friend, a mentor when Luke lacked being one. Snoke wouldn’t betray him like that. Snoke showed him the truth.
As the years went on, the manipulation he suffered only got worse. He had voices whispering inside him to hurt and maim others, and he radiated darkness and pain. All he went by felt pangs of suffering and evil. The night he reacted against Luke, was the night the voices had simply not stopped. It had been weeks since he had slept well, listening only to the voices in him. Kill. Destroy. Make them bleed. Make them hurt. Make them suffer. When Luke stood over him with his saber ignited, that was when he truly knew that he was alone. His own uncle attempting to murder him was the tipping point. He couldn’t trust his family, his friends, or his loved ones any longer. He could only trust Snoke, who praised him and comforted him the whole night through.
NOW FOR SOMETHING DIFFERENT, LET’S DISCUSS POPPY !!
From when he was a toddler, Ben had an aromatherapy stuffy that helped him sleep. A pastel purple bunny, he named her Poppy, and she always smelled like lavender and honey. She helped him sleep at night, curbing his nightmares more often than not. She was his best friend. She always got a kiss goodnight from their parents, she got tucked into bed with him, she even had a nightie to wear. And, they went EVERYWHERE together. Ben carried her around with him up until he was nearly fifteen years old because she brought so much comfort and power for him. When he was stressed out, he’d keep her close, hold her little arms or take a deep breath to have calming lavender clear his head from what ailed him. He didn’t pay much attention to anyone who made fun of him for it (though he would be lying if he didn’t say it bothered him), they didn’t know how special she was. To him, when he had Poppy, he was untouchable from darkness.
He finds himself thinking of her, even now as an adult, when he’s incredibly stressed out. He misses having that short moment of escape, just to breathe in her scent and let his worries fade if only for a moment. He also silently berates himself for wanting a stupid toy, but deep down he knows she really did help him.

░░░░░  SIT DOWN KIDDOS!
                                                               it'ร ʀɑɳt t i ɱ ɛ ▓▓▓▓▓▓▓
««« bυt blαckfiรн, wнy diddyα cнσσรє тσ fσяgєт мcυ!ρєтєя? »»»
the short answer is simple: bc i’m a BORING grouchy ass.
the long answer is down below: it’s like i’m boring but i have reasons, ok.
Tumblr media
hello my dear followers! as you may have noticed by the funny letters in the beginning, it’s time for your friendly neighbourhood rper talk a little bit about something that bugs the shit out of her, first of all, i’d like for you to take into consideration the fact that i’m boring. like, i’m fucking boring and i tend to look closely to little mistakes that may or may not destroy my whole cinematic experience. second, i want y’all to know that i’m adhd and spider-man is a part of my life - in some instance, i’m him. and i’ve researched a lot about how adhders can get interested in things - there is something named hyperfocus, when you think A LOT about something, and a common nomenclature is special interest. so, before you say ‘’but bfish, you’re overreacting....’’ remember that this hero is one of the reasons i got over many hard times in my life. remember that.
so let’s go, get your popcorn, your soda, your spider-man comic (or avengers dvd, idk what’s your preference) and let’s swing right into the queens borough that is my hyperactive and passionate mind.
i hated homecoming. nowadays, i can say that with all the words. i hated homecoming. but, no, i don’t hate tom holland - in fact, i love him and he is an angel. i also met him and laura harrier in may and he signed my copy of spidey! the problem in the movie is far from him - he is a talented and sweet boy that deserves the world. but, unfortunately, his peter was poorly written. before you all start calling this brazilian ass names, let me explain the reasons why i think it was terrible.
i. 〈〈 the complete erasement of uncle ben. 〉〉
no, my friends, that doesn’t mean that i wanted to see uncle ben dying and tom crying just as andrew and tobey did. no i didn’t want that, just as much as i didn’t want a flashback in batman vs. superman showing the death of the waynes. but the fact is, when a fact is important, you can’t simply forget that. i’m not saying i wanted a flashback, but i wanted ben’s death to have consequences on peter &&. may’s lives. honestly, i doubt the wise man even said to his nephew the most famous words in the story of comic books: 〈〈 with great power, there must also come great responsibility. 〉〉 in this interview, screenwriters revealed that the motto would feature, but in a peculiar way.
‘‘At the end when Happy [Jon Favreau] is in the boy’s room in school we had him say, ‘Oh yeah, Tony wanted me to tell you, “With great power comes… something, I forgot,”‘” Goldstein tells Yahoo Movies. “It was a little too meta.”
literally, they’d make happy tell peter the most iconic quote in the history of comic books in the wc and who’d be quoted? or almost quoted? yeah, tony stark. the new uncle ben. we see in the movie that ben’s death has llittle effect on peter’s maturity - he is still dumb and selfish, he still fucks things up without thinking in the responsibilities. mcu!ben is not the ben we know. it’s funny how they undeveloped the character that showed up in civil war: in that point, i was certain that tom holland would be way better than tobey once was as peter, and better than andrew was as spider-man. but he wasn’t, and that was a major turn down. in civil war, we see him fighting against experienced people, using his powers and saying basically this in other words. what happened to this peter? to the peter that showed traits of adhd and autism, to the peter that knew that with great powers, came great responsibilites, to the peter that loved may and didn’t want her to suffer. what happened?
ii. 〈〈 dad stark is the worst concept ever, fite me. 〉〉
i don’t get why people fetishize this shit so much. let me get into details over here: in case you’ve never read the comics, tony stark made peter’s life a living hell. why? because he betrayed him. tony, who peter was trying to see as a new sort of father, betrayed his trust and made him fight and stand for ‘’team stark’’, even though parker thought that shit wouldn’t happen. what happened to aunt may was tony’s fault. he manipulated peter, and, when the later noticed what happened and tried to back down, tony was furious. furious because he lost his puppet. steve said that tony would do anything in his power to take peter down after he openly exposed stark’s intentions in tv.
why is this relationship so terribly adapted? because rdj has charisma. people love him, people buy his merch. tony stark in the cinema is not the tony stark of the comics, he is robert downey jr. in a fucking iron suit. nothing more, nothing less. and the public loves that. tony stark, canonically, was about to be peter’s ‘’father’’, but he couldn’t. because you can’t replace a father like that! even more after the trauma that peter went through, being the cause of ben’s death. peter tried to find a father in tony, but it was impossible: tony used him, trashed him, manipulated him as a puppet, made his family a target of villains.
there were hints of this relationship in civil war - like when tony threatens to blackmail him to aunt may and kidnapps him to fight among grown and trained adults. after all of that, stark left peter bruised and hurted in his legal guardian’s footsteps. he was done with him. and somehow, the fans didn’t get it. they love to victimize their dear tony stark - they can only see through black & white, forgetting that stark is not a hero, nor a villain. he is more of an anti-hero, when parker is a hero. the fans drawn fanarts, said he was son to stony/pepperony (oh my god idk which one of those is the worse). and marvel liked that - they wanted fanservice, and the studio gave them this.
the father to peter parker is and will ever be benjamin parker, husband to may parker (née reilly). the good and wise man who tried his best to deal with his teenager nephew, his stubborn and tempestuous nephew. the stans will come at me and say that it doesn’t matter anymore, ben is dead and tony is alive. but imma pull a quentyn martell here and ask you a thing: what matters the most? men’s life or their deaths?
iii. 〈〈 peter parker is team cap, period. 〉〉
from the day ben parker died and on, peter learned a lot of things. the youth promissed to always use his powers when he can, to act with justice. otherwise, the fault would be his. peter loves captain america, he is his idol - not iron man. may parker, his aunt, grew up in a generation when the sentinel of liberty was a symbol of resistance against nazi intolerance - and she most certainly passed it to peter.
he and tony may share technology talent, but steve and peter share much more. they share an idea - the idea of freedom, justice and good-will. it’s more than money, it’s a matter of honor. in the comics, he switched sides when noticed tony’s real intentions, and, taking the point that he said that beautiful quote in civil war, it’s more than a consumated fact that peter parker would be a member of team cap if he had had a choice.
peter parker didn’t know what he was fighting for, plus his appearence in civil war was a mere fanservice. it didn’t fit well, he was 100% not needed there. the hypocrite stark took him to a fight that wasn’t his to fight among trained adults AND, if that wasn’t already enough, didn’t tell him what he was fighing for. ‘’something about making cap mad.’’, i love how they explicitly throw the fact that tony manipulated peter in our face, and yet people deny to acknowledge this. your favorite character made a dick move, it won’t hurt if you admit that, friend o’ mine.
iv. 〈〈 aunt may is fucking hot. do you see it? SHE IS FUCKING HOT! 〉〉
yes, aunt may is hot and different from the version we had in the comics. is that a problem to me? hell, no. she is aunt may, not grandmom may. she can be young without any issue. the problem is the big deal they made of it. in the first scenes of the movie, we’re introduced to a said-nice joke of tony stark where he talked about may being sexy in front of her nephew. people don’t really get how stupid that is, right?
there are two moments more where i wanted to shove a knife up my ass. mr. dalmar saying, in spanish, how hot the descendant of italians is (oh my god that was so creepy WHY ARE YOU THIS WAY WHY GOD PLEASE WHY), and peter answering in an unusual &&. cunning way, asking how his daughter was (in spanish, of course. sex appeal, friends.) this is sexist as fuck. and also that ‘’larb’’ scene, i’m not even gonna get started because it’s so terrible. oh, you truly see how cool it is for a woman to be harrassed by many men because she looks hot. yeah, cool.
can you guys believe that aunt may was supposed to have a boyfriend in this movie? exactly. nine months after ben died. nine months. may dated a guy (that actually was really old and died) in the comics 100 issues after that event, and got married 500 issues later, to j. jonah jameson’s father, jj. she didn’t get over the loss of her husband that easily. no one does, unless you deeply wanted the person to die. now answer me, may (without aunt, cuz she is too young to receive this kind of treatment. have you ever imagined a hot aunt? unbelievable. she is just may.), did you want the love of your life to die?
v. 〈〈 progressive, but not so. 〉〉
queens is a diverse borough. i’ve read tweets of actual people that live there saying how there was only one white kid in a class of many students, or on how many filipinxs, latinxs & blacks over there. that is a thing i liked in the movie! it’s not the 60′s anymore, there has got to be non-white people in midtown. flash as a latino was quite nice, and so was liz. two charismatic characters and actors that i loved so much.
but the problem envolves ned &&. michelle, mj, whoever she is, i don’t care. ned is an amalgama of betty brant’s husband and hoblgoblin, ned leeds and miles morales’s best friend, ganke. he is the comic relief of the movie - the one that praises the hero, that wants to be like him. a movie that says that breaks a lot of stereotypes made a fucking poc fat character that is nothing but a comic relief. we don’t feel any character depth in ned, we don’t know anything of his family, he lives basically in peter’s function, the white standard boy being served by the poc fat boy. you get how progressive that shit is?
and also i’m going to touch a delicate topic over here: michelle. i’m not going to get in the merit wether she is mary jane or not, but i know one thing: she is a badly written stereotype. she is everything white straight sexist man think we, geek feminist women, are. she seems like she doesn’t take a bath, is always angry and grouchy. she bullies peter and stalks him, and, shockingly, even though zendaya was in every single piece of marketing and promotional tour, she had nothing in the movie, but four fucking minutes of ‘’empowering’’ jokes for the female viewers to ‘’identify’’ with.
wonder why that’s this way? homecoming had eight screenwriters (that will, unfortunately, return to homecoming 2), and guess what? all of them are white men that see female nerds as nothing but a comic relief, right? that see feminists as grumpy and dirty. and i’d bet 10 good reais (brazilian local money) that she is gonna go through an awesome transformation to show female empowerment and date the protagonist.
the name of the movie is spider-man: homecoming, but could be spider-man: hypocrisy.
vi. 〈〈 'nuff said. 〉〉
well, that’s it. i felt like i needed to take it off my chest, you know. as a spider-man fan, a lot of things in homecoming bugged me, and i disliked the movie so much. please, i ask you not to attack me. people are allowed to have different views from yours, that is ok.
the conclusion of all this rant is that: tobey is my peter, andrew is my spider-man and tom is my idol as an actor. only that. the five reasons above are why i won’t include this mcu mess into my verses.

he /thought/ he was in love, but instead actually obsessed... so did ishim think cas was obsessed with dean but hes actually in love 🤔
ask n. 2   “ishim is a monster incapable of healthy love” That’s why I don’t really like that comparison. They got compared to something that wasn’t really love, but more like a stalker obsessed with a poor woman.
(This turned way too long, so here’s a recap: I discuss the comparison between Ishim and Cas /and respective relationships with humans/, which tells us who Cas is by contrast; I also draw a parallel between Ishim and Godstiel, aka Cas’ darkest side – that Cas still managed to overcome on his own, because despite everything he’s always had a good heart and good intentions; also, are we supposed to reconsider the nature - platonic or potentially romantic - of Dean and Cas’ relationship in s6?)
Hello there, my friends! Unfortunately, you have just opened a can of worms, since I was writing some meta on the parallel between Ishim and Cas. To answer the first question, well, yes. Ishim (like many angels) doesn’t understand human feelings and emotions. Not only he’s a manipulative and abusive douchebag, he also lacks the experience to understand what love is (Cas, on the other hand, has been human..). So, when he sees the bond between Dean and Cas, he compares it to what he knows. And what does he know? The love he knows is obsession, rotten to the core; the human he wanted never loved him back; he thinks she made him weaker (and this is just textbook abusive behavior). So when he sees how far Cas has fallen (subtext: for a human), of course he thinks Cas is in his same situation.
You know why we’re meant to stay away from them humans? Hmm? It’s not because we’re a danger to them. They’re a danger to us.
Yeah, he’s talking about both Dean and Sam, but casually Sam is never called Cas’ human weakness (context: we’re talking romantic love, throwback to Metatron saying Cas was in love with… humanity, just to point out one episode later that Cas’ goal was all about saving one human), nor he is in the climatic scene where Ishim goes after humani– erm, Dean (hint: Sam wasn’t supposed to be there because Cas loves Sam, but he’s not in love with Sam).
Now, on to question #2. Too much exposition is deadly to a story. A great way to show who a character is or whatthey’ve become is… to contrast them with who they’re not (same goes for relationships).
Ishim is linked to Castiel, they used to fighttogether. Right before the final showdown, we also learn that Ishim had fallen inlove with a human. But his love was unrequited, until it became twisted andobsessive. In a horrible display of power and to cut his own “humanweakness”, Ishim murders Lily’sdaughter and lets Lily live. Big mistake. Lily wants revenge, and startskilling the angels who (unknowingly) helped Ishim. He didn’t consider she wouldbecome that powerful and dedicated, so he let her live, and now she’s out forrevenge. So, when it comes to Castiel’s human weakness (*coff* Dean *coff*) hedecides to immediately kill Dean. Even worse, Dean feels the same wayabout Cas, and Ishim knows.
Tumblr media
(Read as: Suspicions confirmed)
Dean must be punished, because he (unlike Lily)loves Cas back, and that’s unacceptable. If anything, this episode shows us that Dean and Cas’ relationship couldn’t be more distant than Lily and Ishim’s.
Now, nobody asked me this, but while I was going through Cas’ emotional arc in s6, I realized that there were some similarities between Ishim and Cas’ worst chapter of his time with the Winchesters. I’m talking about Godstiel. Quick digression to have some context, in s6 if Castiel’s goal was to stop Raphael, his need was Dean’s support and affection. (I’m sorry, I’m about to quote myself now)
Castiel’sneed is expressed by Castiel himself after the whole 6x20 debacle. When Sam,Dean and Bobby find out what’s going on, that’s a turning point that leaves Caswondering if he’s doing the right thing. His goal is deeply related to hisneed, so it’s hard to let it go. Because if Castiel doesn’t stop Raphael, Deanand Sam are going to die.
In 6x20,we have this exchange:
DEAN: No,actually, it’s not, and you know that. Why else would you keep this whole thinga secret, huh, unless you knew that it was wrong? When crap like this comesaround, we deal with it… Like we always have. What we don’t do is we don’t goout and make another deal with the Devil!
CASTIEL:It sounds so simple when you say it like that. Where were you when I needed to hear it?
DEAN: Iwas there. Where were you?
6x21 is all about Cas needing Dean’s support and expressing his need.
CASTIEL: I came to tell you that I will find Lisa and Ben, and I will bring them back. Stand behind me, the one time I ask.
Ok, so, Cas needs Dean (and Dean needs Cas, but Cas is gonna wait 2 seasons before getting to hear it under tragic circumstances).
Then Cas swallows all those souls and monsters, and turns into the super powerful and arrogant version of himself (hubris used to be one of his biggest flaws). His goal changes, but his inner need is always there.
(6x22) CASTIEL: Theangel blade won’t work, because I’m not an angel anymore. I’m your new god. Youwill bow down and profess your love untome, your Lord, or I shall destroy you.
(7x01) CASTIEL: Stop. What’s the point if you don’t mean it? You fear me. Not love, not respect, just fear.
Going back to Ishim, what he does kind of echoes Godstiel’s words.
CASTIEL: Youwill bow down and profess your love untome, your Lord, or I shall destroy you.
Love me or I’ll destroy you. (I know this can be hard to metabolize, but consider that Cas had also swallowed Leviathans, who were probably starting to control him). Way before that, Castiel had broken Sam’s wall tostop Dean from trying to stop him. He had promised to save Sam, but after he becomesGodstiel, his dark side and whatever he’s swallowed take the upper hand. He lets Dean live out of mercy (or nostalgia, as he says in 7x01…),threatening to throw him into the pit again. He doesn’t fix Sam’s wall, and weall know that Lucifer hallucinations will almost kill Sam in s7. (I’ve read meta that explain how Dean’s relationship with his brother is often compared to a relationship with a son; Dean is a parent figure. Who does Ishim hurts to destroy Lily?) After that,Dean tries to get Death to kill Castiel. (Also, to reinforce this Ishim/Castielparallel, consider that Ishim was the first angel Lily had ever seen, just likeCastiel is the first angel Dean ever sees).
One of the biggest differences between Cas and Ishim, tho, is that (motivation) Castiel ultimately did what he did to protect Dean (and Sam) and to avoid the Apocalypse (and due tothe lack of communication, it was a tragedy… from the human perspective. akaour perspective) plus Godstiel’s most awful actions were probably influenced by the Leviathans, while Ishim’s actions were meant to subjugate Lily to hiswill (and he had no supernatural excuse for his actions).
Whilestory and needs are similar (and there’s a hint of possessiveness in s6Castiel’s behavior), Castiel always had good intentions, and went on to redeemhimself and gain Dean’s trust and affection back. Ishim’s intentions, instead, were completely egoistical, and he never changed. (Ishim’s character has a need to be in charge and subjugate other people. The creepy way he fixes his clothes after beating Castiel is a display ofpower, the camera work highlights that. He’s also extremely possessive.)
Ishimmirrors Castiel, but he’s also what Castiel isn’t at the moment (and has never truly been). Which better way to show how far he’s come without having to say itexplicitly? Also, which better way to show the extent of Dean and Cas’relationship? Those two would die for each other, while Ishim would rather destroy Lily than accept her refusal. Dean and Cas are family.Plus, since the episode’s context is angels falling in love with humans (and notin a platonic way), it all gets romantic overtones. For once, context gives usa not-so-platonic interpretation. We’re also asked to reconsider Dean andCastiel’s relationship in s6. Now, Ishim’s “love” was rotten, but Castiel’s? Andwas is platonic love or romantic love? Who the hell knows about then, it is even more ambiguous now for sure.
(Well, Dabb kind of gave us an interpretation in 9x20, when he decided to write this).
(I’ve read some people see the Cas-centric episodes we’re getting as past, present, future… what if it’s also about his relationship with “humanity”?)
tagging @tinkdw @elizabethrobertajones @mittensmorgul @bluestar86 bc maybe you can answer these questions ;)
