a/n: I shall indulge and feed you and your gojoey brain. But that's not the only occasion!! Today marks the first anniversairy of this blog, so i am happy to celebrate it by posting this drabble hehe~ thank you @venussins for looking over it again - i modified it a little so it's not gonna be boring in case you want to reread it.

You had no idea how Elsa did it, nor any other Frozen character for that matter. How were they unbothered by the cold? Just having walked home with your boyfriend, your body still shuddered from the icy temperature. It truly was no wonder though; after all, the scenery outside had been painted white by snow. Dealing with wintertime had never been your forte, evidently shown by your shaking hands, red nose and thick layers of clothing.

Not even your boyfriend’s still somewhat warm hands wrapping around yours in an attempt to warm you up helped mend the cold from your hands. Getting home as fast as possible, that was your goal. Luckily, you were almost there. Just two blocks left…

Finally, the familiarity of your home greeted you. Above all, you were simply happy to not be outside in the cold anymore. Getting out of your date outfit and slipping into more comfortable clothes was a given. Naturally, you hurried to change because you wanted to shake off the frosty feeling from your limbs and body.

“This definitely feels better,” you sighed in relief, stretching your arms. You turned around, only to be greeted with a half-naked Satoru in return. He had already slipped out of his attire, into comfortable gray sweatpants. For a moment your brain short-circuited. No matter how many times you had seen your boyfriend bare, his gorgeousness always stole your breath away.

The muscles slightly flexing under the dim light as he took off his shirt – mesmerizing. As if on cue, your boyfriend’s eyes met yours. The man seemed to have a knack for catching you red-handed – and making fun of you for it. Naturally, he wouldn’t let it slide (he rarely did), “Like what you see?”

Of course you liked what you saw. After all, who wouldn’t enjoy the sight of such a stunning man? “What, am I not allowed to look at you?” you retorted, not wanting to give in so fast. With your lips forming a pout, you admitted, “I still feel cold, and you look… you look like you’re warm.”

“What was that? I look hot? Oh baby, I know that already,” the tall man said with a shit-eating grin that made you want to wipe the floor with his face. You hated (but also loved) it so much. “If you want me to warm you up, then just come here.”

How could anyone ever refuse his offer? In his still-half-naked glory, he opened his arms wide and you relented, eagerly interested to be enclosed by Satoru’s waiting arms in a warming hug. His embraces felt like candy for the soul – always so comforting and healing in every way.

You wrapped your arms around Satoru, as if to show that you’d never let him go. “Cute,” he chuckled and planted a kiss on top of your head, hugging you closer to him ever so slightly. In response, you kissed his chest in front of you. Then you proceeded to put your ear against it, closing your eyes. God, did he smell nice.

“You said you still feel cold, right?” You nodded in response, not even bothering to reply verbally nor look at him. The serenity was such a joy and you made sure to relish it to the fullest for as long as you possibly could.

That was until you felt your peace being temporarily disrupted by sudden movement: Satoru had pulled his (and your) favorite hoodie over both you and him. “I’ll keep you safe in my hoodie,” he said while peering at you through the hoodie’s opening.

The sight of you beneath his shirt? It was just too adorable. The tall man was not able to resist and had to ruffle your hair through the fabric. Ducking his head through the hole, he met face-to-face with you underneath his hoodie. For a moment, time seemed to freeze and your eyes met his electrifying ones that never failed to spellbind and pull you into a world of bliss. Thanks to that, you almost missed him leaning in slowly to kiss you. His lips moving against yours sparked pure magic in your body – your heart swelled with adoration and yearning, never quite getting enough of him. In a split second, Satoru had managed to warm your body, heart and soul.

Much to your chagrin, the kiss ended too early. A toothy grin was the last thing you saw from his face before his head slipped through the opening again.

“I have to admit, this is a good look on me,” he snickered.

“I think you mean to say: it’s a good look on us.”

Which of your fics…

I got tagged for this by @dreamsarelikedragonflies​! I’m gonna stick to my Tales of Arcadia fics for this so nobody has to suffer the old that happened pre the big writing gap I had.

…did you think would get a bigger reaction/audience than it got:

It was a bit of a long shot particularly given it was the first thing I’d written proper in ages that’s public but probably Masks We Wear, Lies We Share. Character centric fics that don’t follow the lead of a franchise always are hit and miss and this had an extra handicap in being the form of the general goings on than “Here’s the plot hurtling away” but alas! It’s set when it is because of the UK cuts on the TV version and this was the easiest way to work around knowingly having holes in my knowledge.

…is your funniest:

Humour for me is not something I can specifically write for, it’s more incidental ( “Oh I swear he better just be on moral support right now or he'll catch these hands holding a warhammer”) though I will admit I do love how Cat with the canary and the last line of Trolls, fried chicken and walnuts came out in the drabbles.

…is your darkest/angstiest:

Ghosts he left behind 100%. The chapter I’m working on right now has Toby trying to come to terms with loneliness and the not knowing and one of those moments which is gonna hurt the reader more I’ve been plotting since January is coming too :D Grief and loss in forms other than death seems a very common thread in this thing not to mention thoughts keep turning back to Draal as nobody got a chance to reconcile with what happened before everything went off the rails.

…is your absolute favorite:

I’m gonna say Presence, elegance, an unmistakable dominance - Nomura because when Maestro came on shuffle I immediately burst out cackling as what the hell. Though I’m always biased for changeling banter at the best of times.

…is your least favorite:

I’d say one of the ones I’m writing right now that has been a constant fight to get the right vibe going because it’s an AU but not if that makes sense? It’s not that it’s bad by any stretch it’s more it feels like I’m wading through treacle trying to get the words to fit together right and the frustration gets to me. It WILL be done but it’s being defiant to the letter.

…was the easiest to write:

In a mystery to everyone including me, How to bond in the Darklands kicked down the door and essentially decided to exist over the space of 48 hours plus edit time. Second would go to the AU I’m writing right now as uh:

This was started just before midnight on freaking Saturday and it’s STILL trucking nicely.

…was the hardest to write:

Savouring Memories. I have very particular thoughts on grieving and moving because of my own experiences of being left adrift so often which I know aren’t shared by many so trying to write it in a way that can make sense to outsiders AND keep it in character woof.

…has your favorite line/exchange/paragraph (share it):

Shall I pick from the files I’m currently working on as a treat? No context nor which file I’m pulling these from to help keep the mystery going :)

Somehow this manages to be translated into stuffing him under her arm with an elbow tucked under his chest for support, his annoyance only grows when the opportunity is snatched for a photo to commemorate his brand new status as a living scowling handbag.

"Sounds more like an elaborate ruse to me, are your manners really that scarce?" She hisses back, refusing to move herself from the flickering warmth that is gradually returning the energy lost from her attempts to find a single door that would let a lone lady in from the weather. He lets out a hum in return, putting a mark in the book to properly give all his attention.

"No no, my words are as innocent as can be! If you are at all willing to indulge and trust my intentions are as so I can even prove it right now. All it will require is the lady's hand, if I may? I will not judge if you refuse." The hand is offered like it is there to tempt her with a form of devil's deal. She is clearly not impressed even before a reaction is snapped back a little louder than intended causing a few curious glances their direction.

"Do you honestly believe that you are so charming that you could speak a few honeyed words and have me at your beck and call? Sir, I must inform you that you are highly mistaken."

Deliberately eating slower to extend his break some more it is only after the final fry is devoured that Douxie checks his phone again for a reply to find he'd been sent an eyes emoji and there is not a force on earth that coulda wiped the stupid grin off his face.

One thought, well why not have a crack at it anyway?

"You do realise, Nomura, we wouldn't even be having this problem if you weren't quite so nosy, hm? Be thankful I gave you plausible deniability."

"Not my fault that's where all the best fun and or blackmail material comes from, is it?" She snipes back placing the tidied blankets to her side for whoever decides to deal with them because it certainly will not be her.

"Your domestic tiff sounded interesting who am I to ignore it."

…have you re-read the most:

Can’t say I tend to reread my own stuff except when I’m double checking something for a future chapter which hilariously happened last night actually as I somehow forgot in the space of a couple of hours Douxie grumbling about Latin. Everything goes through multiple proof read edit runs tho with the exception of drabbles. Ghost!AU Chapter 2 took AGES being such a beast of a chapter to run over it a few times.

…would you recommend to someone reading your work for the first time:

I’m gonna say Ghosts he left behind because it’s an actual chaptered thing that deviates from canon and gives you a good idea about my angst loving heart that seems to infect everything I write.

…are you most proud of:

Ghosts he left behind again! While it suffered and languished round the same time my mental health took another bad turn it’s been a consistent thing even when I could do little more than adjust the spreadsheet or chuck in a handful of words. The third chapter is nowhere near content complete but it HAS started moving again when I’m not completely sidetracked by other things which feels like a small victory you know? I love AU’s at the best of times and it let me alter one canon plot line a tiny bit just to see what would happen and take other people along for the ride because while I know the big story beats prior, when we hit the Eternal Night your guess is good as mine.

Merlin Writer Month - Week 4: All Time Faves

Alright, y’all, the moment you’ve been waiting for: My favorite fics for week four of @madaboutmerlin’s Merlin Writer Month.

Now I know over this last month, I have been notorious for posting ridiculously long rec lists apparently even crashing some browsers- SORRY- BUT this time, I shall limit myself to my top eight (because I tried to do top five but HNNNG THERE ARE TOO MANY GOOD ONES) that I have not previously mentioned on any list (because many of my fave fics I also recced for Rare Gems week)- so I HIGHLY recommend you go scour those lists as well- if you want anyway lol

So, without further ado-

MY TOP EIGHT MERLIN FICS

NUMBER EIGHT

A Fistful of Infinity and Starlight by junkshopdisco

Pairing: Gwaine/Merlin, (Semi-Unrequited) Gwen/Arthur Pendragon, Gwen/Lancelot

Rating: Explicit

Summary:  Uther’s insane, Morgana’s plotting a new assault on Camelot, and Arthur and his knights are clueless but supposedly in charge. In the midst of it, Gwaine finds himself harbouring feelings for a man who apparently has a destiny, and learns something new about magic: it doesn’t play fair, and serving it shakes everything you hold dear – whether you’re a sorcerer or not.

My Comments: It’s a musical.  I’m not kidding.  Sadly there is no actual music written for it, but I feel that the characters have a very realistic reaction to walking through the hallways and suddenly finding your friends singing at you lmao

NUMBER SEVEN

Five Slices of Life by Wildcard

Pairing: Gwaine/Merlin

Summary: Or 5 chocolates from a chocolate box sampler! All set within the same reincarnated modern AU as my other fic for enviropony - basically 5 drabbles that belong within that verse and fill prompts that were listed in the letter.

My Comments: Literally just five short little pieces about Merlin and a reincarnated!Gwaine.  Short and sweet, and makes me smile every time I read it

My Comments: The description is right: “shamless fluff.”  Cute, sweet, and just leaves me happy lmao

Real Men Don’t Wear Girdles by HalfFizzbin

Pairing: Gwaine/ Merlin, Guinevere/Lancelot du Lac/Arthur Pendragon

Rating: Teen And Up Audiences

Summary: If Gawain and the Green Knight took place in the Merlin universe, it might have been a tiny bit different—because there's no way Merlin would let Gwaine traipse off on his own to get his head chopped off. Includes attempted alliterative verse, bawdy songs, evil deer, made-up spells, clichés, and a truly insane amount of fluffiness.

My Comments: OKAY, THIS FIC- I LOVE IT.  THE WRITING STYLE IS GREAT AND SARCASTIC AND THE SEQUEL LEAVES YOU HOPEFUL FOR WHAT IS TO COME FOR THE FUTURE OF THE CHARACTERS.  I have laughed aloud every time I’ve read this because it is also QUITE FUNNY if you ask me.  A wonderful take on Gawain and the Green Knight that I feel fits very well into the universe of Merlin.

My Comments: Alright, something different for number four.  Now this author is great.  I have loved every single one of their fics- so much so that when I was compiling this list I was unable to choose just one to rec lol.  A gen author who explores Merlin’s friendships with each of the characters in turn.  I HIGHLY recommend their stuff! 

NUMBER THREE

The Water Witch and the Black Dogs by Tipper

Pairing: Gen

Rating: Teen And Up Audiences

Words: 65320

Summary: A little tale of evil hags, black dogs, missing princes and estranged siblings, not necessarily in that order. When Gwaine accompanies Arthur, Merlin and the knights on a diplomatic mission to Mercia, he becomes an unwitting participant in a power struggle for Bayard's throne.

My Comments: Now, I actually found this fic just last week and I sincerely wish I had found it sooner; I always adore Gwaine centric fics, and this one takes the cake.  With wonderful exploration of family (of both the blood kind and the found kind), BAMF!Merlin, BAMF!Gwaine, and giant puppies (...okay, they only appear once BUT THEY’RE STILL THERE), this fic was one that I couldn’t stop reading and has a very satisfying conclusion after everything that happened, both in the characters’ pasts and for the events of the fic itself.

NUMBER TWO

Along a Wandering Wind by Hope

Pairing: Merlin/Gwaine, Lancelot/Gwen/Arthur

Rating: Explicit

Words: 63401

Summary: Just when Gwaine finds a reason to end his roaming, he must leave Camelot again, this time on royal orders. Whether and how he returns may depend on the secrets Merlin—and others—are keeping from him. (A romance of letters, intrigue and knightly apprenticeship, set post-S3.)

My Comments: Epistolary form is a weakness of mine, and this fic does it beautifully.  Another Gwaine centric fic in which he and Lancelot are sent to Essetir to claim the land for Camelot following Cenred’s death.  Wonderful exploration of Merlin and Gwaine’s relationship and how a long-distance relationship might have worked in their universe.  It also beautifully handles many LGBT themes (including a canonical trans character) and I found myself emotionally connecting with the characters in a way that no other fic really had before.  This one is great and I adore it as well <3

Alright...the moment you’ve been waiting for...

NUMBER ONE: MY FAVORITE MERLIN FIC

Hello, Sweetheart by ViridianJane

Pairing: Merlin/Gwaine

Rating: Teen And Up Audiences

Words: 44182

Summary: Gwaine and Merlin have been dancing around their feelings for years; Merlin too focused on trying to thwart destiny, and Gwaine holding back in fear of losing what they already have. But the battle at Camlann comes too close to taking everything from them. It’s a second chance for all of them, and Gwaine confronts Merlin about magic, love, loyalty, and (surprisingly) dragons. But the fight for peace is not over yet: Arthur has yet to change the laws on magic, and his ignorance and hypocrisy provokes a group of rogue druids into taking action. They’ve placed a curse on the land, and Merlin is the one suffering the consequences. Thus ensues a quest: Arthur, Gwaine, Merlin and Aithusa travel to four locations with close ties to magic in order to break the curse, and on the way, Arthur begins to right his wrongs and finally takes the time to listen to what Merlin has to say.

My Comments: This.  This right here is a beautiful fanfiction.  I have reread it at least ten times (twice in one day, actually!) and have cried nearly every time (I was in class the one time I didn’t.  So.) I have it downloaded on both my laptop and my tablet, and I even tried to get it on my phone because I LOVE IT THAT MUCH- AAAAAND I’VE PRINTED IT OUT (after spending hours fixing up the file in Word because the PDF download is a liiiiiiittle skewonkous).   Merlin and Gwaine’s relationship is beautiful, and I positively adore them and Aithusa together (Gabby, you’ve ruined me for Gwaine & Aithusa stuff- I need more and there’s barely any lmao).  Gwen is beautifully characterized as well, and I feel that this fic is a wonderful conclusion to the show.  It may also be what I have accepted as canon instead of the finale but that’s just me.  If there is one fic on this list that I say you should read, it’s this one, because Merlin and Gwaine finally get the happy ending they deserve.

I saw someone add some stats here that I found interesting, so I’m going to include that here:

I published 15 works for a total of 199,784 words (not including some drabbles that are only published to tumblr.) Hmmm, I’m realizing my stats might be skewed because of an epilogue I wrote for a fic from last year. Oh well, I was told there would be no maths, so I’m not going to figure it out now. Oh for fuck’s sake, I’m realizing I have counted the Dive series as one work, but ao3 counts it as 5 or however many of them there are. Blah. No one check my maths please.

10 fics rated Explicit, 3 Mature, 3 Teen, 2 General and 1 Not Rated.  All were Larry except for one Drarry fic.

My most popular fic this year was I Didn’t Fall For You (You Fucking Tripped Me), which is also the most popular thing I’ve written ever. Why? I have no idea. You guys are weird. I’m not weird at all for writing about monitor lizards. My second most popular fic was If I Loved You Less, which is telling me you guys like a/b/o fics, maybe? idk.

2. Work you are most proud of (and why):

Probably When the Sun Won’t Let You Sleep. That fic consumed me while I wrote it. I constantly thought about it, and the characters talked to me all the time in my head. I knew them inside and out. When I first came up with the idea of Antarctic research scientists, I had no idea what the story was really going to be about until I started researching the British Antarctic Survey. There are so many stories to be told from the absolute ends of the earth that I had no idea existed. The fic became a story of why Louis found himself in Antarctica, but he’s not an entirely reliable narrator of his story. The other characters help you figure out why he’s really come to the ends of the earth.

3. Work you are least proud of (and why):

I wouldn’t say I’m not proud of anything I wrote this year, but I’m a bit mystified by the popularity of I Didn’t Fall For You (You Fucking Tripped Me). To me it was just some silly thing I wrote to fulfill a couple of prompts that I put together. I had fun writing it though! And it’s always fun to have lots of people talk to you about a fic, so that was nice, too! 

4. A favorite excerpt of your writing:

(From If I Loved You Less)

Louis’ heart pounded at the sudden intimacy of a darkened garden, although other couples strolled through the lantern lit pathway.

“I hope I was not interrupting you in the ballroom.”

Lord Styles’ voice sent a shiver through him that Louis could never quite control whilst in his presence. “No, you did not, and I thank you for coming to my aid.”

“Ah, I sensed you were in need of it,” he said simply as he offered Louis a sly smile. It seemed they were both in agreement on Baron Winston. The music of a waltz floated through the air, and Lord Styles hesitated on the stone path. “Shall we return for our dance?”

“If you’d like to,” Louis said, though a bit reluctant to leave this small oasis from the heated ballroom and if he were honest with himself, reluctant to sever this small moment of privacy with Lord Styles.

“I would rather walk and speak of nearly any topic rather than return to the ball,” Lord Styles declared.

“Is that right?” Louis ducked his head to hide his smile at Lord Styles’ honesty. He quite liked that he seemed always so forthright.

“Yes, and I’d dearly like to spend my time elsewhere.”

“Why don’t you?” Louis asked boldly as he looked back up at Lord Styles’ handsome profile, almost sure of the answer.

Lord Styles’ lips pursed a bit and he made a funny twitch of his nose as though to prevent a grin from spreading across his face.

“I think you know why,” he whispered into the darkness.

5. Share or describe a favorite review you received:

I had the opportunity to write a fic for @greatpemberly this year as part of @1dfanworksforcharity and when I discovered what her ao3 was, I was so so happy. I recognized her ao3 immediately as someone who has been reading and commenting on my fics for years. It was an honor to write for someone who has supported me for so long. 

I feel extremely lucky to have the response I’ve had to my fics in general and to get the comments I receive. I respond to every single comment, and I appreciate every single one. The long ones with people yelling about specific parts make me grin like an idiot, and the short ones letting me know they’ve read or reread something show up in my ao3 emails and bring a smile to my face, too. Whenever I get a comment from a writer I admire, I try not to make a fool of myself in the response but I don’t always succeed. lol. I mean, come on, if Dolce comments on your fic, you get to dance around your kitchen for a while, right? 

6. A time when writing was really, really hard:

I had a meltdown in November. I was trying to do nanowrimo and I’d written 27k of my Big Bang for next year and was kicking ass really. However, my Big Bang is angsty, and it was way too intense for me to try and write that much difficult writing in that amount of time. It messed with my head in a way fic has never messed with it before. It scared me a little. So I quit nano halfway through, and it was definitely the right thing to do for my mental health.

7. A scene or character you wrote that surprised you:

Niall and Shawn in If I Loved You Less. When I started writing that fic, I had basically no notes on what Shawn was like and only a vague idea of what Niall was like, but as soon as I started writing it, they threatened constantly to just take over the fic. lol. My beta said when I started, if I was sure I wasn’t writing a Shiall fic. 

8. How did you grow as a writer this year:

Just the act of writing so much last year and this year has helped me hone my skills a bit. There are things about how I write now that isn’t present in my earlier fics. And it’s simply from just writing so much that it gets easier to create a more well rounded story, I think. When I structure a story now, my outline isn’t just a series of points anymore. I’m much better I think at coming up with the story arc so that I can focus more on characters. Taggiecb really helped me with “inner monologue” and calling me out when I wasn’t doing it. lol. I also wrote a fic in past tense this year for the first time, which was a much bigger challenge than I ever thought it would be.

9. How do you hope to grow next year:

I just hope to keep writing and reading as much as possible! I think the fics I have planned are ambitious in different ways, so I hope to keep challenging myself. 

10. Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer or beta or cheerleader or muse etc etc):

My answer is always @taggiecb. I don’t know if anyone understands that every single thing I write must first pass her initial test. I write first to entertain her and then I think about myself and everyone else. haha. We’re not co-dependent at all! But truly no one understands me like she does and no one loves my writing like she does, and it’s definitely mutual. <3

11. Anything from your real life show up in your writing this year:

Always. Every fic has something of me in it.

12. Any new wisdom you can share with other writers:

I hope to just encourage writers to seek out other writers for support if they need it. Writing doesn’t have to be something you do alone. If you’re having trouble getting people to read your stuff, I’d say to write for challenges and exchanges. I wrote for so many over the last few years, and I really think that’s where a lot of people found my fics. This certainly isn’t new wisdom, but I think it helps to write and read as often as possible. The more you write, the better you’ll become at the craft of writing. The more you read, the more inspired you’ll become. If you don’t read the other fics in your fandom, you will miss out on finding new and exciting things to write and reminding yourself on what you can work on to get better. The reading is nearly as important as the writing.

13. Any projects you’re looking forward to starting (or finishing) in the new year:

I’m in the middle of writing my Big Bang fic right now. So that’s what I’ll be working on until it’s done. It’s an intense amnesia au that has a twist to it. Hopefully, I can pull it off. It will likely be the longest thing I’ve written. 

@afirethatcannotdie and I are going to run another round of @larryabroad, so actually, Ellie, we need to get on organizing that again soon. haha. 

I have two other fics that I have plotted that I’d like to write in 2019. One is probably for the @1000feelingsfics challenge and is a soulmate au based on a drabble I wrote for the Fall Drabble Challenge. The other is a bucket list au that involves a lot of travel, so maybe that could be for Larry Abroad. Not for sure on that yet.

2. Work you are most proud of (and why):

It has to be, hands down, Mistletoes & Wrackspurts series (ELTHDIM, SOLS(ILY) and IYEWBIL - and now Part 4 as well). I fell in love with the universe Syn and I created. I feel in love with the characters, I’m too attached to them now and I can’t wait to show everyone what we have in store for them. I don’t know, I just love it, getting immersed in writing Wizard Harry and Muggle Louis and being able to include HP aspects in it is just the best part. Even if it’s not a story for everyone’s likes, even if my writing is still not the best, I always give my best when I write about this universe and I’m immensely proud of what we did with it so far!

3. Work you are least proud of (and why):

I can’t say I’m least proud of it, but if I have to rank, it would be Bright Eyes, only because all the while I was writing it I was like: what’s the point? what do I want to accomplish with this fic? will people even like it?. And also because I kinda struggled writing it for a bit, so this one gave me a bit of hard time I guess. But there are aspects of it that I am proud, because it was initially a fanfic in Portuguese I had written when I was around 15-17 (lol), inspired by a classical Brazilian author’s story and I managed to turn into Larry, so yay for me hahaha

4. A favorite excerpt of your writing:

I remember 0 things about what I wrote, so this is hard for me to answer LMAO 

I know I get really emotional when rereading the reunion scene from IYEWBIL (and also the argument scene too), so I guess that whole part is a favorite, but right now I might say it’s something from Part 4 that hasn’t been posted yet and it hasn’t been beta’ed either but I’ll put it in here, so....

**SPOILER ALERT**

Right there, as the clock almost hit midnight marking the beginning of a New Year, Harry was sure he couldn’t possible love Louis more, he couldn’t possibly want nothing else but to share his life with him, share a home with him too.

5. Share or describe a favorite comment you received:

It’s probably Lobna’s “who tops in this fic” :D

God, I can’t choose a favorite comment because I’m a sucker for all of them. People saying nice things and saying how much they enjoy our works is the best thing for me. I gotta say tho, @broccoliwasdone‘s private comments are the best ones HAHAHA but also @doctorrainbows‘s ones were amazing to read (I LOVE ROSIE AND HER COMMENTS TO DEATH AHJAAHAJ), @happilylouie‘s (<333), @thestainofredwine‘s (AMANDA I MISS YOU) and @finck-you-freeky‘s (and all the tie kink anons hahaha <3 ) as well.

6. A time when writing was really, really hard:

Every time I write I struggle with something, gotta love me some writer’s blocks :D But I guess I could say there were 3 main times this year: When I was writing Love Like Wildfire, because writing a/b/o was a first for me and I didn’t know if I was doing it right (and my anxiety was acting up at the same time so, yay), then when I tried to write mine and Syn’s McSmutty fic (rip this one lmao), I barely started writing it and I already hated it, so I gave up lol (one day we might get back to it, who knows hahaha) and lastly when I was writing Bright Eyes as I mentioned before.

7. A scene or character you wrote that surprised you:

Probably a scene in Bright Eyes hahaha if you read it, you might know which one I’m talking about. God, that was hard (ehehe). Oh, but also IYEWBIL’s argument scene. That was an intense one and I can’t believe it didn’t suck after all :D

8. How did you grow as a writer this year:

To begin with, it was the year I wrote more fics haha so I guess it gave me more opportunities to get my writing better and see what works for me or not. I’m still not confident enough about my writing, but I think I improved it a bit and I’m proud of how my works were done.

9. How do you hope to grow next year:

I hope I get to improve myself even more. I hope to keep exploring new things, because the most challenging things to do are the ones who help us grow the most. And as any author out there, I hope my works get more recognized and that more people enjoy it, because people’s comments and inputs on my fics is what fuels me to keep going.

10. Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer or beta or cheerleader or muse etc etc):

Who would it be if not @regulusarcblack? This binch has been with me through it all, has helped me, has called me out, we have argued back and forth HAHAHA but, Syn is my rock when it comes to writing (and everything else), so whatever we do together, or apart, she’s a constant in all of them, so I have to thank her a huge amount. 

My lovely @britpickerhl​ is also another important influence on me, helping me so much and giving me encouragement and confidence with her comments when she’s beta’ing for us! I can’t thank you enough for being on this ride with us!

And........ of course @broccoliwasdone​ because Genny is the best cheerleader and PR person out there HAHAHAHAHAH Whenever I need reassurance, she’s there to read my stuff and help me out. ALL MARCEL (THE OWL)’S SCENES ARE DEDICATED TO HER!!!!!!!!! I love you binch.

And the writer’s gc as well, even if for the short time we’ve known each other, you all helped me a lot, so thanks! :D

11. Anything from your real life show up in your writing this year:

12. Any new wisdom you can share with other writers:

As I said in question 9, the most challenging things to do are the ones who help us grow the most, so don’t stop yourself from trying. Keep on writing, even if it’s only for yourself or 3 other people, because there might be someone out there who will enjoy it, even if you hate it. Don’t be afraid of putting yourself out there. Don’t be intimidated by other authors or fics who seem to be bigger and doing better than yours. Everybody has their own audience and even if yours is small, they are worth it, so much. (and let’s not forget that sometimes..... things that are bigger and more famous are..... worse *drops mic*)

13. Any projects you’re looking forward to starting (or finishing) in the new year:

I haven’t thought much about what I want to write next year. The only real commitment I have is with the HL Song Lyric Exchange, and I already know this is going to be another challenge in my life haha. M&W series is a constant in our lives, so let’s see what more shall we bring into this universe! I have a few other ideas that I don’t know if they will come to life, but let’s wait and see what will happen :D

SPN Fanfic Writers Team Up With Shakespeare!

It’s April 23, 2017--453 years to the day since (historians believe) that William Shakespeare, one of the greatest English writers ever, was born...and 401 years to the day since the day the Bard died! :’(

However, his words live on in his plays that are performed each year, the movie adaptations, the sayings in everyday conversation...and now in Supernatural fanfiction!

When I hit 1.5k followers, I put out a rather daunting challenge to my followers: Write a Supernatural fic using a line from one of Shakespeare’s plays, and incorporate 2-3 SPN-themed words that begin with the same letter (I, like WS appreciate alliteration).

24 brave souls took on the challenge.

The results are below the read more link, along with a brief review/rec from me for each. I hope you enjoy these and take the time to share some love with the writers--this challenge was truly out of the box and they wrote some incredible things as a result.

“A Life I Would Have Known” by @buffylovesfoxmulder

Prompts: Anna, Angel Blade, AU (French Mistake/EndVerse) and “This above all: to thine own self be true. And it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man” (Hamlet I.3).

My Fangirling:  An episode rewrite of the French Mistake where Anna subs in for a much more earnest Balthazar and the reader has a surprise up her sleeve for the Winchesters. I loved it. Lengthy, but worth the read. :) 

“Wanted” by @arlaina28

Prompts: Benny Lafitte, Bunker, Brothers,  “We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; for he to-day that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother” (Henry V IV.3).

My Fangirling: An absolutely lovely smut fic between Benny and the Reader that builds up in canon-style characterizations from first meeting to the “I love you” stage. An excellent read, and a brilliant use of her prompts.

Prompts: Donna Hanscum, Devil's Gate, Deals, and “ “There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so” (Hamlet II.2).

My Fangirling:  Mimi delivered again! An angsty-suspense with flashes of fluff Donna x Dean fic around the danger of a Devil’s Gate—the one in Wyoming. I loved this fic, and it’s not even my ship, so definitely check it out….and hold onto your seat!

“The Valiant” by @littlegreenplasticsoldier

Prompts: Ellen Harvelle, EMF Reader, and “Cowards die many times before their deaths; the valiant never taste of death but once” (Julius Caesar II.2). 

My Fangirling:  I--I don’t know what to say here…it was beautiful and sad and it must have taken you so much time to create this, and I love it. It’s an angsty peek into Dean’s head during his time with Lisa, how he’s struggling to maintain, how he’s trying to cope with Sam’s loss—and it’s done in VERSE. You almost want to read it out loud. I just love this…and I think Shakespeare would be proud.

“Papa Don’t Preach” by @whatareyousearchingfordean

Prompts: First Blade, Fathers, “What’s gone and what’s past help should be past grief” (Winter’s Tale III.2)

My Fangirling: A Reader x Dean angst fic where she learns of a pregnancy that she hadn’t planned on and tries to explain to a Dean who worries about fatherhood. I loved the canon characterization.

“All Dogs Go To Heaven” by @rachelladytietjens

Prompts: Hell Hound, Hex Bags, Heaven, and  “We know what we are, but know not what we may be.” (Hamlet IV.5)

My Fangirling:  With what was probably the coolest title in this challenge, she did an amazing job on this fic that had some really conflicting and challenging prompts! It’s short and sweet, with no pairing, but extremely intriguing and it raised so many questions for me. Brava!

“Not So Innocent After All” by @im-most-definitely-fangirling

Prompts: Impala (Baby), Innocence, and “If music be the food of love, play on” (Twelfth Night I.1).

My Fangirling:  A body-swap fic between the Reader and Dean that reveals a lot of what they’ve been hiding from each other. I loved this—besides, where can you go wrong when you end up riding Dean on the Impala? AmIright ladies? 

“Wine, Meddling, and Temptation” by @avasmommy224

Prompts: Jody Mills, John's Journal, Job (Hunting),  “Tempt not a desperate man” (Romeo and Juliet IV.3). 

My Fangirling:  I love it! The fluff with a hint of angst and reader being besties with Jody? Brilliant! She did a great job working in ALL of the prompts and this fic is fantastic. I absolutely love Jody as a matchmaker--I can just see her worrying about finding the boys the perfect lady. :) Dean x Reader with future fun times—nothing wrong with that!

“Just a Little Magic...” by @wi-deangirl77

Prompts: Meg Masters, Mark of Cain, Magic (Witchcraft), “I am one who loved not wisely but too well” (Othello V.2). 

My Fangirling: I was prepared for weird when I put Mark of Cain with Meg Masters and Magic, but Jess managed a canon style fic of angsty goodness that everyone should read. It’s MOC!Dean x Reader and...oh, it’s just lovely. Go read! She says it’s the start of a new series—and I, personally, can’t wait to read it!

“Chase the Nightmares Away” by @destiel-addict-forever

Prompts: Nephilim, Naomi's Room, Nightmares, “You pay a great deal too dear for something that’s given freely” (Winter’s Tale I.1).

My Fangirling:  This cute little fluffy drabble is a Daddy!Lucifer fic (not kink, reader is Luci’s kid), something I imagine we’ll see more and more of as this current series continues. I swear, when I made the prompt list and put Nephilim on it, I had no idea it would become such a big thing this year on the show! Great job.

Prompts: Pagan God (Not Loki/Gabriel), Pie, Pranks, “We have seen better days” (As You Like It II.7) and (Timon of Athens IV.2). 

My Fangirling: I absolutely loved this! It was beautifully characterized: witty reader, western-loving Dean, sassy Rowena, protective/knowledgeable Sam….and the way you combined your prompts…I just loved it. Comedy, alternate timeline, canon style…what is not to love here?

“Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night” by @roxy-davenport

Promtps: Queen of Hell (Abaddon), Quincunx (Hoodoo symbol), Quips, and  “Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall. Some run from breaks of ice, and answer none, and some condemned for one fault alone” (Measure for Measure II.1). 

My Fangirling:  A rewrite of an awesome episode to include a reader insert and pairing with Crowley, this fic, like many of @roxy-davenport’s, shows a sentimental and charming side of the King of Hell in a way that even makes this Dean!Girl think fondly of the red-eyed demon. I loved the sassy way she broke down the Shakespeare quote in the fic.

“Together We Thrive” by @deansarms

Prompts: Ruby's Knife, Revenge  “I burn, I pine, I perish” (Taming of the Shrew I.1).

My Fangirling: I can NOT compliment this work enough. Absolute brilliance. It’s a poem that switches from Dean’s perspective (in italics) to Sam’s perspective. It centers around the Shakespeare quote, but it provides canon accurate characterization and plot in verse form, and it….ugh, just go read it. I think I’ve reread it like five times now. ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL.

“Friendships is Constant” by @atc74

Prompts: Samuel Campbell, Sigils, Souls, “Friendship is constant in all other things” (Much Ado About Nothing, II.1). 

My Fangirling:  Canon-style fluff and character analysis set in season 12, Angelina used all of her prompts, and created a catch-up moment between the boys and their mother that I think we all want to see happen on the show. Short, sweet, and adorable. 

“Goodnight” by @besslincoln-bruh

Prompts: Uriel, Uniforms (Outfits), Underdog, and “Strong reasons make strong actions” (King John III.4). 

My Fangirling:  An interesting AU with a future Dean x Reader pairing. Reader is a lawyer trying her first defense case—to prove Dean Winchester innocent when the world (and the evidence) is against him. It was hard to tear myself away from this fic, and a creative use of all the prompts. Well worth a read!

“Sweet Revenge” by @plaidstiel-wormstache

This is a completed series. The link above is to the masterlist. She wrote it at as one long one-shot with the quote at the end, but I encouraged her to make it a series--and the whole thing is fabulous.

Prompts: Vengeful Spirits, the Veil, Vessel, and “If you prick us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you poison us, do we not die? And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge?” (Merchant of Venice III.1).

My Fangirling: This friend went way above and beyond the call of duty and wrote a truly spectacular SERIES based off this prompt, with some inspiration in the form of a rather intriguing OFC. No pairing, but a beautiful use of all prompts in a canon-style fic set during John’s first solo hunt. Angst, sprinkles of fluff, some dark emotional stuff, and so much canon beauty…I love it. I don’t want to play favorites on this challenge, but this one is my favorite.

“Wrath” by @waywardjoy

Prompts: Werewolf, Wooden Stake, Wrath, and  “Is this a dagger which I see before me…or art thou but a dagger of the mind, a false creation” (Macbeth II.1).

My Fangirling: Short but strong, an angsty Dean x Reader piece where you see the unbridled danger that is a wrathful Winchester. My wonderful bestie worked in all of her alphabet prompts and her Shakespeare quote brilliantly. She also helped me put this whole challenge together, so extra kudos to her. :D

My Fangirling: Nini created a very original reader here for a story the likes of which I’ve never seen before, and doubt I will see again. Azazel x Reader, sexy times, strange magics, manipulation of time and angels, old world religions, unexpected fluff…just wow….  I won’t be forgetting this series any time soon. Great job!
