Turkish workers are coming to Orehek: the company will set up a "campus" for them made out of containers
Workers of a Turkish company are coming to Postojna these days to build tunnels and viaducts on the route of the second track. Until autumn, they will be accommodated in tourist facilities, and in September they will move to a campus built especially for them in the settlement of Orehek.
Land with abandoned barns of the former cooperative has been for sale for years. Whether there will be residential houses or perhaps a home for the elderly there in the future, as envisaged in the spatial plan, is not yet clear. It is certain, however, that Turkish workers will reside there for the next three years. The locals have already welcomed them.
The only thing that worried them was the number 450, which is twice as many newcomers as the population of Orehek. Tina Klanjšek from the Orehek Local Community explains: "However, the Turkish company ensured that all workers' exits would be organized so that the workers would not be able to move freely around the village."
The mayor of the municipality of Postojna, Igor Marentič, adds: "These will be workers who will work seven days a week. According to them, they will have guided exits, visits to Postojna, etc."
The campus will be set up out of containers by a Turkish company and will be self-sufficient; they will have their own doctor, chef, laundry, shop and 24-hour security. In exchange for hospitality, the town was offered a donation totaling 70,000 euros.
If this is the cost of that railway upgrade we so desperately need, i don’t want it. This is insane. The 450 workers will be effectively locked in a labour camp for three years,  working seven days a week with limited supervised exits. Go watch the video in the link to see with what ease the representative of the local community and the mayor of Postojna talked about it.... is this who we are?
