Law and Order Criminal Intent - s02e03 - Anti-Thesis Goren: Professor Sanders wasn't in that night grading papers, was he? Eames: True or false, Ms Goodman, and we don’t give incompletes. Goodman: He said he had a dinner with some people from NYU.. about a job offer. Eames: How long was the dinner? Goodman: He came back around 8:30. He was in a bad mood. Eames: Why? Goodman: He didn't say. He just shut himself in his office and got on the phone. Then he left at 9:30. He told me if anybody asked, he was grading papers all night. Goodman waits a beat. Goodman: I'm sorry.. Goren: It's okay, Valerie. Thanks.

#this scene exemplifies some things about both bobby and alex #alex is more often than not the Bad Cop and this is no different #she's a bit aggressive with this girl and slightly harsh in tone with her questions #and then there is empathetic bobby with his soft warm tone #you even have alex addressing her more formally as ms goodman but bobby calling her by her first name #for the most part the girl almost never looks at alex and looks specifically at bobby even though alex is asking most of the questions #and then when she apologizes for lying at first bobby gives her forgiveness for it bc he knows she's just caught in a crossfire of loyalty #i don't think it's ever that alex isn't empathetic towards these kinds of witnesses/etc but i think she has little patience #and also as a woman i think it comes back to bite her more often if she shows too much empathy and kindness #bobby can do it because he's a man and it disarms people #alex has had to learn to be the tough cop both with witnesses/suspects and with her coworkers/the nypd #but they both understand their roles and know how to use them together to get the info they need every time #this convo is just a nice little microcosm of that characterization of the two of them #also requisite lmao for alex's school-related zinger #my stuff #law and order criminal intent #goren and eames #loci s02e03
