I've been thinking a lot about haikyuu recently, for one because I miss those funky little jocks, but also in the context of the 911 fandom and a strong subset of people being absolute fucking weirdos about ppl enjoying bucktommy, which is a phenomenon I've mostly seen on tiktok bc it's harder to curate my algorithm on there, but I have seen shadows of discourse from ppl being onions to the trusted blogs I follow here as well, bc like

Here's the thing: something that the hq fandom is known for is multishipping, we had(/have) that shit down to a SCIENCE. There's a million characters in that story, truly a blorbo for everybody, and it was useless to be dedicated to Just One Ship for each character because there's just so many good dynamics between the whole cast! within teams and with other teams, etc etc. people had favorites, obviously, but having a favorite didn't preclude you from shipping those characters with other characters and that was an expected part of fandom participation! And hq being a primary interest for so long, as well as now being an old fave I often come back to, means I am super super immune to the bullshit happening rn in 911 of buddie shippers being accused of Giving Up on buddie just because they're also having fun with bucktommy!

Like, I truly truly do not understand the instinct to wail over buck not dating The Correct Man, I've had my fair share of feeling unsatisfied with his past romantic interests, but when I'm given an on screen relationship that's as fun, hot, and well written as buck and tommy OF COURSE I and many other fans are gonna jump on it and mash them together like barbies because ITS FUN, DAMMIT! Fandom is about having Fun, and it's so telling to me when folks get their panties in a twist over multishipping bc it's like, why r u being a wet blanket! Why don't u want to play with me!!!!
