What They Bring to a Picnic
BNHA x reader
warning(s): none! <3 not edited
a/n: tyyyy @kirixfilms for the ideaaaa :)) <333 big hugs! my thoughts on what they’d bring to a picnic date :) and what a perfect way to send the summer season on its way!
characters: izuku, shoto, iida, kirishima, ochaco, bakugou, denki, sero, & mina
Izuku
Homemade Pinwheels
He spent an ungodly amount of hours on pinterest trying to find the perfect treat to bring just to land on pinwheels. He had a slap from reality when he really tried to imagine himself cooking some dish that had at least 6 hours prep time - he’s sweet and devoted but he’s also realistic. So what better than a light but filling meal than pinwheels!!
He was so proud of himself it was adorable. He opens the tray with a big smile and a little “ta-da!” He gets even giddier when you take a bite and send him a little thumbs up and hum, telling him it’s “so good!” with your mouth still full. Yeah yeah you just made his week
Shoto
Water & Homemade fruit & bread cakes
His first thought was definitely keeping the both of you hydrated and he almost settled on just bringing water - until he thought about it a little more and realized hm, maybe he should contribute with something else, too.
And then he remembered those cute little easy to make cakes you sent him on TikTok a while back and it was like a lightbulb went off in his head :) you really should’ve seen him all focused with his eyebrows furrowed as he tried to evenly spread the whipped cream and cut the bread just right. Not only that, but huffing and puffing while cutting the fruit as he debated with himself how big the slices should be. He even made the strawberries line up like little hearts under the bread even if you couldn’t see it, he was particularly proud of that.
Iida
Those mini sandwiches with no crust
He’s SO so proud of himself as he sets them out for you two to share; even periodically taking glances at you as you take your first few bites, smiling to himself proudly when you hum and smile. He even still asks you,
“Do you enjoy them? I made sure to be careful cutting the crust!”
As if your joy wasn’t obvious enough.
He even made a few different kinds! That way you had your options with flavors - he knows your favorite, but maybe you wanted to try something new!
Overall a very considerate gentleman :-)
Kirishima
Your favorite drinks & egg salad sandwiches
He tries to keep it light but yummy for his contribution to lunch, but just in case you don’t like them (cause he forgot to ask rip) he’s made sure to bring your favorite drinks so you’ll be happy somehow.
He cuts them into diagonals (after trying and failing to cut them into heart shapes of course - which he made sure to tell you about) and thinks it’s so chic and cute and is very proud of himself for the fact (what a sweetie).
Please give him a kiss on the cheek and tell him thank you, he’ll be wearing he biggest brightest smile the rest of the week about it
Ochaco
Homemade Rice Krispies & Melon Kebobs
Picnic dates have always been a must for her, they’re fun and cute so she already knew what she was gonna make - something tasty and simple!!
She made sure she whipped out the scooper and made the sweetest melon kebobs with honeydew, cantaloupe, & watermelon! And of course she made to make those extra sweet Rice Krispies :3
She was so excited to show you what she made and see what you made in return, too. She was adamant on feeding each other the first bites of what the other made, and she made the cutest face and gave you the biggest smile with her mouth full when you fed her that first bite of what you brought :,,(((. She also loved the way your lips tasted so sweet when she gave you little pecks after having the Rice Krispies
She’s decided she’ll have to make those for you more often <333
Bakugou
Charcuterie Board
As soon as you mentioned you wanted to go on a picnic date he understood the assignment. You had been nonstop talking about charcuterie boards and how bad you wanted to try one and then you mention a picnic date? Yeah you aren’t slick he knows what you’re throwing down.
He shows up all straight faced and whips everything out while you’re just gaping at him like, wow? And he just rolls his eyes like it’s nothing and crosses his arms, saying you better enjoy it and he doesn’t want to see a single scrap when this date is over cause he put a lot of work into this damn thing.
You guys definitely walk home with tummy aches from how full you are, but happy tummy aches <3
Denki
Pop rocks & Shrimp Chips
Listen, he believes in convenience when it comes to a picnic. He doesn’t plan on going all out cause he knows he’s just gonna want to snack and then either cuddle or explore! So of course he packs his fav snacks he can take on the go!
He does feel a little sheepish when he realizes you packed lunches for the two of you, and all he brought was candy and chips. But after you give him a kiss on the cheek and tell him to get over himself
Sero
Charcuterie Board
ANOTHER one here, he’s seen the tiktoks and Pinterest pics, he knows what you really want. Besides, he would love to show up with something fancy like a charcuterie board layout and impress you. And so he does exactly that.
You stroll up with your water and other various treats in your bag and walk upon him sprawled out next to that?? You’re a little bashful at first comparing what you brought in your own bag, but he assures you it’s cause he wanted to make you feel special and you feel a little bit better.
He tries feeding you some cheese on a cracker, but some of the spread drips onto your shirt and he laughs, so he’s off feeding duty from now on.
Mina
Assorted Fruit
Girlie busts OUT with the seasonal fruit collection.
She skips up to you and pulls it all out of her bag, pre cut in nice Tupperware’s and it’s so fresh. She even made some chocolate strawberries as a cute little side!
She’s all about being cute and feeding you fruit and giving you a smooch after, humming when she tastes the sweet left over remnants of fruit on your lips. She’s also all about taking the cutest pictures of you guys together and posting them everywhere - she has one of you with fruit juice dripping down your chin as her lock screen cause she’s obsessed <3

BTS Reaction | They React to You Having a Weird Personality
[A/N: Hey gang! I’ve been meaning to post this earlier but somehow I got hit with major writer’s block ( ̄ε ̄)so to the user who requested this, I’m really sorry I took so long to finish this. Hope you all enjoy!
Seokjin
When Jimin decided to tag along with you and Seokjin to go grocery shopping, he didn’t think much of it at first. He was running low on basics such as milk and soy sauce and, being his first time spending some time with you, he thought it would be a great time to get to know you better. And boy, did he.
The three of you were browsing the produce section of the grocery store when you suddenly wandered off somewhere. Jimin didn’t think much of it and continued to stay by Jin’s side, checking the ripeness of the cantaloupes. It was only when he heard you speaking nearby. You were talking in a cutesy voice, the kind one would use when speaking to a baby or small child. It was only when Jimin turned your way to find you speaking to either.
“Aww, aren’t you just the cutest thing ever!,” you cooed while holding a kiwi close to your face. “You’re so soft and fuzzy. Too bad you’re just too delicious otherwise I’d keep as a pet!”
“What the absolute fuck?,” Jimin murmured, totally dumbstrucked of what he was witnessing.
“What?,” asked Jin, too busy testing the cantaloupes.
“Y/N is talking to fruit… like it’s an animal or something.”
“Oh yeah, she does that sometimes. Pretty adorable, right?
Adorable wasn’t the right word Jimin was thinking of. Plain bizarre was more fitting. Or embarrassing as a handful of passersby gave quizzical looks at you. But you were too busy to notice, focusing on your conversation with the small, fuzzy fruit.
Mortified, Jimin calls out to you. “Ah, Y/N! Can you please quit it.? You’re being weird!”
Surprised but unfazed by Jimin’s outburst and overall embarrassment, you simply respond, “But come on, they just look so deliciously cute!” You even gave the kiwi a nice pet before lovingly rubbing it on your face.
Utterly speechless, Jimin continues to gawk at you like a freakshow. His attention does break from you when he feels a sudden pat on the shoulder. He turns around slightly to find Jin next to him with a sympathetic look on his face.
“There, there Jiminie.” says Jin, “you’ll come to love her weirdness.
And Jimin eventually did. Begrudgingly so.
Yoongi
You were sitting alone in a cafe, waiting for your boyfriend Yoongi to arrive. When he mentioned that he had some time out of his busy schedule to hang out, of course you took the opportunity. Although you admired his work ethic and dedication to BTS, you still wished there was more time to spend time together. And it was days like this that you truly look forward to.
He texted you he was running a bit late so all you could really do was wait patiently for him. A task that wasn’t so hard since you found yourself drifting into a daydream while staring out the window. It was only you heard the screech of the chair scooting that broke you from your daydream. You turn to the noise and see Yoongi sitting down in front of you. And with an unexpectant guess.
“Hey Y/N, sorry I’m late,” Yoongi greets you, “Hope you don’t mind that I brought Taehyung along.” Taehyung sits down next to Yoongi and shoots you a cheeky smile.
“No, I don’t mind,” you replied, “Now I have two of my favorite people in the world.” While there was a part of you that wanted to be alone with Yoongi, you were happy to see Taehyung as well. As an apology for being a third wheel, Taehyung even offered to order and pay for all your drinks: an Americano for Yoongi, a vanilla latte for you and a hot chocolate for himself.
Once the three of you were all settled with your drinks, you asked the two men how their day was.
“Surprisingly, it wasn’t too busy. Just going over…” you listen to Yoongi say before drifting into one of your vivid daydreams. You knew it was rude but sometimes you couldn’t help it, you get distracted way too easily. Yoongi knew this about you. This definitely wasn’t the first time you spaced out while he was speaking. Despite this, you always urge him to keep talking since you snapped out of it at some point.
However, Taehyung didn’t know this trait about you and proceeds to wake you up from daydream mode. With a loud snap of fingers he called out your name and your attention was now back to them.
“Oh sorry about that,” you said bashfully.
Unbothered, Yoongi took a sip of his coffee. “No, it’s fine babe. Seemed like you had a good daydream going on.” Both of you chuckled lightly but Taehyung stayed quiet. He wasn’t particularly annoyed by your daydreaming but he did think it was rude to not pay attention.
Half-jokingly, he retorted, “Wow hyung, who knew you were dating such a space cadet.”
“Huh?,” you responded. Taehyung’s seemingly lighthearted remark caught you off guard.
Taehyung chuckles. “I knew all knew you were ditzy but jeez.”
You didn’t know how to respond so you giggled nervously. Even though you knew he was joking around, the way he said it made you feel a bit embarrassed.
Seeing your reaction, Yoongi glares at Taehyung. “Hey, I’d appreciate you not making fun of my girlfriend.”
“But hyung, I was just-”
“I really don’t give a shit whether you were kidding or not, I want you to apologize to her.”
Knowing better to not disobey this particular hyung of his, Taehyung turns to you with apologetic eyes. “I’m sorry, Y/N,” he says genuinely.
You reached over to give his hand a comforting pat and smiled at him. “Thanks, Tae.”
You knew he was joking around but it was still nice to hear him apologize.
Hoseok
Everyone in the group knew how close you were to Hoseok. Dating for almost a year already, he was your entire world. Your rock. Your knight in shining armor. And because of his supportive and caring nature, you always went to him whenever you needed something. Hoseok made it clear to you that you could always rely on him.
“Hobi, can you please pick me up?” you’d ask him on the phone and Hoseok would immediately be on his way.
“Hobi can you open my bottle? It hurts my hand”, and he’d gladly open it for you.
“Hobi, I feel really scared and anxious right now, I need you,” and he would drop whatever he was doing to find and comfort you.
To some people, you would see this as Hoseok being a great boyfriend. However, others might just view it as a little too dependent. Others like Jungkook, apparently.
Jungkook didn’t have anything against you; he really liked for the most part. He just thought it was strange for a girl your age to be so reliant on someone, be it her boyfriend or not. He didn’t understand how someone as fiercely independent as his hyung would be interested in someone who is the complete opposite. It was an opinion that he kept to himself until one day.
You knew that today Hoseok and the guys had a dance practice and you thought it would be a great idea to make a surprise visit. On your way to the studio, you were about to turn a corner when you see your boyfriend and Jungkook in the hallway. It looked like they were having a serious conversation so you contemplated whether to wait until they were finished or greet them anyway. That’s when you hear your name being suddenly dropped.
“Y/N?,” Hoseok asks quizzically, “What about her?”
“I noticed that she’s been asking a lot of you lately, things that she could definitely do on her own,” Jungkook hesitantly begins, “I just find it odd that she’s that so dependent on you.”
You felt a rush of heat rising in you from shear embarrassment as you hid away the two men. You didn’t know that Jungkook thought this way about you and you worried if the other’s felt the same way. “Ugh, this is why you don’t eavesdropped, stupid,” you thought to yourself. You were about to leave when you heard Hoseok beginning to speak.
“To be perfectly honest, Jungkook, I like that fact that I’m the one Y/N comes to when she needs help. I like being needed, especially from someone I love. She’ll get to a point where she can be more self-reliant but I’m not going to rush her. So don’t worry too much about her or our relationship, okay?” He finishes his speech with a friendly pat on Jungkook’s shoulder.”
“Sorry, hyung. I didn’t mean to be rude,” he says with a guilty look on his face. Hoseok just responds with a hearty laugh as he puts his arm around the maknae and leads back to the dance studio.
Still standing behind that corner, you couldn’t help but contain the sweet smile on your face. You were still a bit dejected over what Jungkook said about you but the fact you had a boyfriend that will defend no matter what made you feel so blessed. He was truly your everything and you’d be lost without him.
You took a moment to compose yourself before heading towards the dance studio.
Namjoon
It was no secret to anyone that knew you that your favorite thing to eat was anything pickled. Growing up in a family that pickled everything from cucumbers to watermelon rinds, you always found comfort munching on the tangy, savory food. Your love for pickled foods reached an all new high when you moved to South Korea and fell totally in love with kimchi and all its regional variants.
To an outsider, they might see your love for pickled food a bit obsessive, but not Namjoon. Knowing how much you love eating them, he made sure stock up on your favorites at the dorm. So whenever you come over to hang out, you’ll have a tasty snack to eat. This sweet gesture made you love the man even more, if that was even possible in the first place.
The rest of Bangtan thought your obsession with pickles somewhat peculiar but also adorably quirky. Well everyone except for one person: Yoongi. As much as he enjoyed pickled foods himself, he personally thought you took it too far since he’d always catch you eating them. He even avoids sitting and speaking to you due to you sometimes smelling like strong brine. But he tried his best to hold his tongue since it didn’t hurt anyone.
One day, Yoongi walks into the living room of the dorm and finds you and Namjoon sitting at the table. You, of course, was enjoying some pickled okra your mother sent you in a care package.
“Hi, Yoongi!,” you squeaked as you got up to give him a hug.
Yoongi became rigid in your embrace but soon reciprocated the hug rather awkwardly. Pulling back from the hug, he says hurriedly, “Uh, I have to run some errands. See ya guys around,” then hightails it out the door.
His behavior leaves you puzzled. “What’s with him?,” you asked Namjoon but he just shrugs in response.
That very visit, you decided to spend the night at the dorm. You were walking out of the bathroom after brushing your teeth when you heard Namjoon and Yoongi talking in the next room. As you tippy-toed closer to that room, you quickly realized they were talking about you.
“I’m sorry Joon but I just think it’s her obsession with pickles is kinda gross,” Yoongi belts out, “I mean she eats them all the time.”
Before even hearing Namjoon's response, you quickly walked to his bedroom and buried yourself in his sheets. A few moments later, you hear Namjoon walk into the room and feel the bed slightly shake as he climbs into bed.
“You still awake, honey?,” he sweetly asks.
“Yeah,” you said in a somber tone, still buried under the sheets.
“Hey, is there something wrong?”
It takes you a moment before responding. “Do you think I’m gross, Joon?”
Namjoon sighs heavily. “I’m guessing you overheard our conversation. How much did you hear?”
“I only heard what Yoongi said then immediately went towards the room. Joonie, I’m sorry I’m like this.”
That’s when Namjoon pulled the covers from you and cupped your flustered face. “Hey, you have nothing to be sorry about. Who cares what you love to eat? I love you for who you are, Y/N. That’s what I told Yoongi hyung and now I’m telling you.” He then gives you a warm, gentle kiss on the lips.
Overwhelmed by Namjoon’s intense sincerity and affection, you felt your eyes start to water. “You don’t mind that my kisses sometimes taste like vinegar?”
Namjoon chuckles at your question. “Not one bit.”
Jimin
The guys decided it would be nice to have a relaxing movie night and you were invited to tag along.
“How long’s the movie?,” you asked?
“It’s pretty long,” Jimin says before he clicks the play button on the Netflix screen.
“Bet Y/N’s gonna pass out halfway towards the middle,” Taehyung jokes.
You scoff. “I’m not gonna fall asleep this time.” You said this with such confidence but the boys didn’t buy it. You were known to fall asleep at any time, at any occasion. Whether you were on a day trip or at an awards show, you’d often find yourself passing out somewhere, causing some slight embarrassment on your part. And unfortunately, tonight was no different.
“Baby, wake up,” Jimin softly says to you as he gently shakes you awake.
You quietly moaned as you sat up on the couch in the dorm’s living room. “Is the movie already over?” you said groggily, rubbing the sleepiness from your eyes.
Jimin faintly smiles at you. “Afraid so. 25 minutes in - a new record for you,” he teased. You gave him a quick glare.
“I had a strange dream. I wasn’t in it myself but you and Namjoon were there. Namjoon was kinda irritated and said something like ‘what’s the point in even inviting her to these things if she’s just going to fall asleep?’ Good thing it was just a dream, right?” You looked up at Jimin and saw a weird expression on his face. “What?”
He sighs and says, “That wasn’t a dream, Y/N. I was hoping you didn’t hear that.”
“So, Namjoon did say that,” you asked. Jimin nodded. Even though you were the one that fell asleep during the movie, you couldn’t help but feel a bit hurt and ashamed. You bit your lip before speaking again. “Is he mad at me?”
Jimin grabs your hands, gently caressing your finger. “Oh, not at all, sweetie. But even if he was mad, it doesn’t matter,” he says assuringly. “Wanna know what I told him?,” he asked you. You silently nod. “I told him that you’re my sleeping beauty and I wouldn’t change that about you.”
His lovely compliment catches you off guard, causing a light blush to appear on your face. Softly smiling at him, you respond, “You’re such a cheeseball, Park.”
Taehyung
You were out on a dinner date with your boyfriend Taehyung, and you were trying your best to hide your nervousness. It wasn’t the fact that you were out with Tae that made you nervous since you've been together for a few months already. What made you nervous was that this date was actually a double date with Hoseok and his own girlfriend. Even though this wasn’t your first time hanging out with anyone from the group, let alone Hoseok, you still get anxious in settings like this. Especially settings that involved eating. You didn’t consider yourself a gross eater, you just become hyper-aware when you eat around others. Heck, it took you awhile to feel comfortable eating around Taehyung.
The four of you were sitting together at a fancy restaurant, and you tried your best to ease your nervousness by engaging in the conversation. When the food arrived, all hope was lost as you felt the sensation of butterflies in your stomach. Everyone eagerly dug into their plates as you just sipped your water, hoping it will calm your nerves.
Taehyung poked your hand, getting your attention. “You alright, babe?”
You quickly nodded. “Yeah, I’m just not that hungry for some reason.”
Overhearing this, Hoseok turns your way with a cheeky smirk on his face. “What’s wrong, Y/N? Are you afraid we’ll all find out your disgusting eating habits?” he boffs.
Hoseok was merely kidding but his joke still managed to make you choke on your water. Taehyung rubs on your back for comfort as he gives a stern look to Hoseok.
“Hey, hyung,” he says in a rather serious tone, “Please don’t bully my honey pie.”
Hoseok scoffs in return. “Come on, I’m just kidding!,” he belts. Hoseok’s girlfriend proceeds to slightly hit him hard on the shoulder. “What did I do?”
She looks at him. “Like you’re one to Hoseok. Most of the time, you eat like a feral pig.”
You and Taehyung tried your best to stifle your laughter after hearing such a brutal dig. Although shocked at first, Hoseok just laughs it off and goes back to eating.
You then look at Taehyung and smile. “I think I’m actually hungry now.”
Jungkook
You were meeting the boys for the very first time today. Despite you and Jungkook’s relationship being relatively new, he just couldn't wait any longer to introduce you to his hyungs. While this made you feel extremely special, you were also scared out of your mind that you’ll embarrass yourself in front of them. Possibly making Jungkook regret being interested in you in the first place.
When you told Jungkook about your worries, he reassured you that everything will be fine. As you were standing outside of the door of their dorm, you really hope what Jungkook said was true. With a shaky hand, you rung the doorbell. As you expected your boyfriend opened the door.
“Hey,” he says flirtily.
“Hey, yourself. Are they here?”
“Yep, they can’t wait to meet you. Come on in.” He takes your hand, leading you towards the living room.
“Hyungs,” Jungkook begins excitedly, “this is my girlfriend, Y/N.”
The six men got up from the couch and hurriedly walked over to meet you. They politely bowed and flashed friendly smiles, however it doesn’t ease your anxiety.
“H-hello, it’s not to meet you,” you stammered. You let go of Jungkook’s hand and started to fidget your fingers self-consciously.
It was clear as day that you were extremely nervous. Knowing how important you were to Jungkook, the guys went out their way to make you feel welcome. You spent the entire day having fun with everyone; eating snacks, playing party games and just overall playing around. It seemed like the guys really liked you, which caused you to fidget less as the time went by.
By evening, it was about your time to leave and you went to find Jungkook so he could drive you home. You asked Yoongi where Jungkook was and he mentioned seeing him toward his room. After getting directions, you head towards his room. Seeing that his door was opened you cautiously went inside, not realizing that Jungkook was having a conversation with Seokjin.
“Don’t take it too personally, Jungkook. I’m just not sure if I like her yet,” Jin says to Jungkook, neither noticing you in the room yet.
“But why hyung?,” Jungkook says, hearing the slight hurt in his voice.
Seokjin sighs before speaking again. “She’s just super awkward, you know? Painfully so.”
His blunt words hit you hard inside. It turns out you were wrong about everyone liking you. The room fell into a brief yet excruciating silence. It took you clearing your throat for them to finally notice you in the room.
Surprised, Jungkook turns to you. “Y/N?”
“It’s time for me to go. Can you take me home?”
“Uh, yeah, just let me get my keys?”
Before following Jungkook out the room, you gave Seokjin a meek wave goodbye then left.
On your way to the car, you tried to distract yourself by talking about how much fun you had but Jungkook could tell you were still hurt by Seokjin’s words. Before having the chance to open the passenger door, Jungkook spins you around and pulls you into his embrace.
“I don’t know how much you heard from Jin hyung,” he says into your ear, “But it’ll be fine, Y/N. Soon enough, he’ll see you how I see you: an amazing and beautiful girl.”
You didn’t know what to say at that moment, so you just quietly sobbed into his shoulder.

Snapshots
I don’t usually post fics on here, but carpe diem and all that. This piece is for the @b99fandomevents Summer 2020 Fic Exchange. This drabble is based on requests by @sandylovesfandoms for the Peraltiago honeymoon after Holt left and waterslides/waterparks.
Jake got one whiff of the drink and wrinkled his nose. But Amy was looking at him eagerly, so he gave her a weak smile and brought the glass to his lips. For love he told himself, before chugging the orange mush.
“Bleeeurgh.” He turned around and spit it back into his cup. “That is disgusting.” He kept the glass under the table, knowing that it grossed Amy out whenever he regurgitated food. And if she actually liked this toxic sludge of a smoothie, well, he wasn’t going to deprive her of her bliss.
“It’s not that bad.” Amy looked perfectly happy as she sipped the orange drink. Jake had to admit it matched her sundress and the ribbon in her straw hat perfectly. “I think the papaya and cantaloupe perfectly balance each other out, and the coconut cream gives it a smooth texture.”
“It is disgusting.” He pulled out his phone. “But it matches your dress. Smile!”
“It’s delicious, and more importantly, it’s good for you.” Amy grinned and he snapped the pic. Oh yeah, this was definitely going into the honeymoon scrapbook. He had a sneaking suspicion Amy had planned the aesthetic, but whatever. “It’s full of antioxidants and important minerals.”
“No wonder it tastes so bad.” He grimaced.
“You can’t live on sugar and alcohol, Jake.” He took another picture as she rolled her eyes, fork dangling from her fingertips. It wasn’t scrapbook material, but it was cute.
“It’s our honeymoon. It’s supposed to be magical. We can do whatever we want.” He stole a mango slice from her plate and got up to walk back to the smoothie bar. “Two virgin pina coladas, please.”
“There’s pineapple juice at the buffet.” The bartender stared at him.
“I know. Don’t forget the little umbrellas, please and thank you!” He gave the man a beaming smile and leaned against the counter.
The man was apparently used to unreasonable requests from vacationing tourists, because he tossed a few pineapple chunks and a cup of coconut milk into the blender, set it to spin and wordlessly poured the mixture out into cocktail glasses. With little umbrellas. “Thank you!” Jake took the drinks back to their table triumphantly, pausing to grab a few of the brightly colored straws at the buffet table.
“This is also fruity and coconutty and best of all, it doesn’t taste like the mutagen that made the Ninja Turtles.” He set the drinks on the table and placed two straws in his mouth, long sides sticking out.
“Does this make me look more like a vampire or a walrus?” He asked, pointing.
“Gee, it depends. Which one has purple teeth, again?” She gave Jake a teasing smile and took a picture of him making funny faces at the camera.
“Say what you want, Ames, but this is going to make drink consumption a lot more effective.” He stuck the bottom of one straw in each glass and drank from both at the same time. “Ta-da!”
“That’s good. According to my itinerary, we have five more minutes for breakfast if we want to make it to the next event on time.”
“You’re so organized, babe.” Jake grinned at her as she showed him the binder. “How did you manage to get all these sheets laminated?”
“I convinced the people in the printing center to let me use their office laminator.” Amy’s expression mirrored his, though her smile was tinged with pride. “I figured they needed to have one on site for all the signs and menus and stuff, of course.”
“Of course. Hey, what’s this blue marker for?” He reached for the sticker only to have Amy swat his hand away.
“That’s a surprise.”
“Like a Holly Genero costume kind of surprise or an open ice cream bar kind of surprise?”
“It’s better than an ice cream bar.”
“Hate to break it to you, Ames, but there are few things better than an open ice cream bar. Especially the kind with unlimited toppings.” It turned out that when Captain Holt had extended their stay, he’d also tacked on a few perks as a sort of extended apology.
One of those perks had been access to an open ice cream bar, with unlimited toppings. Jake and Amy had spent a solid hour building and eating the Biggest Behemoth Sundae in The History of The World.
At least, that’s what they’d captioned it when they sent a picture of the monstrosity to their friends back home. It had been a towering mass seven different flavors, coated in liberal amounts of sprinkles and candy with a cookie base. It had been delicious.
Remembering that inspired Jake with new ideas. “Do you think they’ll give me ice cream for breakfast if I asked?”
“Well, they probably would, but we had ice cream last night. Don’t you want to see what I’ve got planned for today?”
“Depends. What have you got planned?”
“So, I rescheduled the sensual feeding workshop because both of us agreed that we wanted to re-do that without Holt watching.”
“I still don’t think I can make eye contact with him ever again after what happened with the avocado.”
“Oh, yeah.” They shared a moment of silence for Jake’s dignity. “But this is our chance to make new, better memories.”
“I’ll drink to that.” He took a long sip of the pineapple juice.
“Then we’ve got a couples’ ballroom class.”
“Fancy.”
“I thought it would be a nice throwback to that case we worked.”
“The one where you were in the shiny mermaid dress?”
“Precisely. In case we ever need to go undercover like that again, I thought it would be good if we actually knew how to dance. Plus,” She gave him an arch look. “I really want to see you in that waistcoat again.”
“The what-now?”
“You know, that vest-thing you wore over your button-down when you were dressed as Dewey? I watched a lot of historical documentaries as a kid and I was really into the whole men-in-fitted-waistcoats look.” She smirked. “You weren’t the only one who got an eyeful at that dance competition.”
“I’ll file that away for future consideration.” Jake whispered, imagination running wild.
“Then we have a lunch, then beach time, then just one thing before dinner.”
“The surprise, you mean.”
“Mhm. Now hurry up and finish eating. Don’t want to be late for our second impressions.”
“Ay-ay, Captain.”
They had a great time at each of the different workshops and events, but Jake couldn’t stop thinking about the blue marker. He was itching to know what it meant, what the surprise would be.
Jake Peralta was many things. Patient was rarely one of them.
So he was practically twitching with excitement by the time the blue-marker event rolled around. They were in swimsuits, so it had to be something to do with water. He hoped it wasn’t water-aerobics.
Amy grinned as she pulled Jake through the archway. “Surprise!”
“Oh. My. God.” Jake’s eyes lit up as he took in the glorious sight in front of him. “Is that a waterslide?” The pool area was practically empty, inhabited only by two lifeguards and a few straggling swimmers. But there, framed in the orange glow of the setting sun, was a very long, very twisty waterslide.
“Surprise!” Amy said again, throwing her arms out. “I made sure to pick the time where we would be mostly uninterrupted. All the families are probably at the live band sing-along thing, and all the adults without children are probably at the beach luau. Which is totally capitalist cultural appropriation, and not even geographically accurate, so I thought it would be fine if we skipped it.”
“Good idea. Where did you even find this?” Jake didn’t think he’d ever stop smiling.
“It was in the resort brochure, Jake.” Amy was rolling her eyes, but not in the tired, I’m-disappointed-by-your-immaturity way. She was rolling her eyes in the I’m-trying-to-be-cool-but-also-fishing-for-compliments way.
Jake was good at compliments. “God, I love that you read the resort brochures. That you plan itineraries with all sorts of weird fun stuff like sensual food arranging classes and cool fun stuff like waterslides. I really want to kiss you right now.”
Amy put her arms around him and they kissed. It was a quick, happy one. Both of them were so excited that it was mostly teeth. “Ooh. Can we do that couple-y thing where one of us sits on the other person’s lap and we go down together?” Jake asked.
“Yes!”
“Is it weird that I just wished Charles’ was here to take a picture of us on our way down?”
“Weirdly enough, I had the same thought.”
“We’re definitely too used to him being around.”
“Yeah.” They both went quiet for a second, thinking about it.
“Waterslide time!” Amy decided to break the silence. They held hands and very safely walked over to the ladder.

~Meet Me In The Hallway~ Chapter 7-
On The Road Again
Harry was not going to meet us at the airport. I knew that, was acutely aware of it. It would be beyond stupid for him to come. He would get mobbed. It could cause a scene, and there was no real reason for him to be there.
I hoped though.
I was dead on my feet when I got off that plane. The intervening weeks had seen us on the phone and texting frequently, but I had avoided facetime effectively,Though I'd yawned my way through that last face time with Harry, I had not been able to sleep well that night or the ones that followed. My head had been invaded. Instead of sound sleep, my full imagination put him on a dusty 19040's airstrip in a trench coat and hat. He was made for the 40's. that jaw line should be comitted to cellulose, it was surely imbedded in my brain. I cast myself as his Lauren Bacall, beautifully crying as we said our goodbyes. The scene my dreams conjured was gorgeous, but I hoped it was not prescient. I did not want my relationship, friendship, my whatever, with Harry, to be rife with goodbyes. How little did I know then.
I was tired, and I wanted a bed. But I wanted a bed with Harry in it. That was unlikely to happen, it was 2 in the afternoon and I was fairly certain that there would be something he was supposed to be doing.
It was a long slog to the hotel, with my brother and the boy's complaining enough to get me to do their bidding. They had this habit, or maybe it was my habit they had picked up on, of running from their whining and doing the onerous task they were complaining about. I knew as soon as I got to the hotel, I would be the one standing at the desk, getting keys and hotel room numbers while they all slumped over the couches in the lobby moaning.
I was trying to overcome my own jet lag and not lay my head down on the stand the very perky blonde hostess was standing behind.
"You guys are with the rest of your party. The whole floor is reserved for you," she smiled at me and my brain was so cloudy that I asked a question I would normally not ask, for a variety of reasons.
"Which room is Harry in?" Slipped out of my mouth before I could stop it, and I could see the headlines now. I was internally berating myself and bit my lip hard. If only I had done that before I opened my big mouth. The desk girl, Holly, smiled at me conspiratorially and leaned over the desk.
"He's actually right across the hall from one of your rooms," she extended a key card towards me with a brow arched high. "This one."
"Thanks," I'm sure my voice shook, either from nerves or embarrassment. The two emotions were duking it out in my head and I was now hoping I could stay awake long enough to outlast my brother and knock on Harry's door. He was always just across the hallway. That was too far.
I walked back across the crisp white lobby, everything was pristine and mostly colorless, a collection of ecru and beige and bleached fabrics and woods with the odd moment of color. Bursts of bright cantaloupe and deep pinks. It felt like my life over the last two months. Long days, that should have been exciting, but dragged like my feet on the way to whatever activity we were engaged in, punctuated by odd moments of life and interest. Those moments always coincided with a chime on my phone with a pseudonym for its sender.
"Cmon boys," I walked over and picked up my backpack and thanked the lord above that larger suitcases always found their way upstairs for us and I didn't have to lug them. I'm sure the lazy asses I shepherded would goad me into that job too. I watched them all pull themselves up and gave a moments amusement to the different ways they moved. Some popped up oddly, first by shoulder of knee, like marionettes being controlled by someone else's fingers, others lurched, walking dead extras trying to make it to the object of their hunger, in this case, a soft bed and rest. Only myself and my brother seemed to be half or more awake. He moved past me swiftly and his sprightly stride made me think sneaking off to see harry was unlikely to happen soon. Why was he so excited?
My excitement thrummed through my veins and the heaviness of my limbs had fallen away. Instead, I was alight. I wanted to lay on the couch with Harry and watch him pinch his bottom lip while he listened intently. There was a story I could not wait to tell him. Ashton had lost his balance and fallen ass backwards off a pier, which was hilarious in its own right, but his shirt getting stuck to a post and his hanging suspended before it ripped as he made a sound like goofy on the way down was even better. There was a video somewhere, that I was sure he would see in the coming days, but I also knew that just my description could draw the laugh I loved from him. That burst of energy and sound. I wanted to watch him eat, get a bit of ketchup or whatever condiment he was favoring off his chin, or wait for him and watch him come in sweaty with clothes clinging from a session with Mark. He said in a text they were boxing and that caused an unfamiliar twitch in regions of my body mostly dormant.
Most anticipated, was climbing into the big fluffy bed all of these hotels had and facing him. His eyes would get puffy as sleep crept up on him. He'd try to maintain a conversation with me, and then all at once his eyes would be closed and his lips would fall open and his soft exhales would be snores. When that happened, I allowed myself the pleasure of really looking at him. Harry liked me Fine, I think, but, I doubted he was as invested in every mood of my face the way I was of his. In his drowsy state, I could admire the curves of his shoulder and the way his collarbones were highlighted with black ink. I'd trace his swallows with my finger tips, never touching, a hairsbreadth separating me from his warm skin. He was so warm when he slept, and he'd allow me to skim my feet onto his calves to warm my always freezing toes up. Harry would scoff and yank back a moment before he brought his legs back to me, an offering. He'd hold his breath the second time until my toes had connected. The sigh that came out of me then would draw a smile from him that I could never help but return.
Those nights, where we touched each other before he fell under were my favorite. We'd smile like we shared a secret, and then Harry would talk, and his hands would occasionally find my own. He'd play with my fingertips while he talked about his mom and Gemma. Telling me stories about dressing up and putting on shows, how being someone else felt so different from having to perform as himself.
"Do you think of the guy on stage as yourself?" I'd asked one night, we were really close, my breath must have brushed over his lips. We were laying in the dark, and the moonless night meant I felt more than saw him. Maybe that's why he was holding my hand, so he knew I was there. The darkness seemed to open the lock on his lips.
"He's me. Well, a version of me mixed with Freddie Mercury, maybe Mick, though I've grown to hate that comparison—-"
"It cracks me up that you refer to Rolling Stones by first name." I chuckled and our lips accidentally brushed. I don't count it as a kiss, but it was more thrilling than any other press of mouths i'd had before.
He inhaled deeply before he continued, "he's just a guy. Like me, you call me by my first name," he laced his fingers in between mine.
"Do you still feel like just a guy under the lights?"
"Not really, no. I feel bigger, at first it's like I'm acting, but then, I get caught up in the rush and all the waves of energy and emotion and I feel bigger, stronger, Fuller. I don't always know the things I say, it's kinda like sex in that way." He laughed at his comparison before tensing his fingers between my own, as I was suddenly rigid. "Sorry, didn't mean to be gross."
"It's not gross, I just have never experienced that," I tried to explain my discomfort. The darkness did not offer me the courage it did him. I still had things I couldn't share. "Never had an experience where I lost control and liked it."
"Is that why you don't drink often?"
"One of the reasons," I shrugged and the wrinkle of the pillow we shared made a soft sigh.
"You could let go with me," his voice was hesitant, and he smoothed our hands up out of their lock until we were palm to palm. "I got you."
"Yeah," was my reply. I knew I was safe here, with him. The only thing I wasn't safe from was my feelings, growing by the hour, minute, second. With every touch we shared and nocturnal secret emitted.
Those were the moments I wanted to go back to, the long hours of night when he was wired from a show and waiting to sleep and I got to hear him talk and watch him breathe. Those were the moments I was hoping to have more of.
My Motley Crue of puppets and zombies made it to the elevators, behind me except for the unusually peppy brother at my side. If adulthood was all about delayed gratification, it looked like today would be formative. I wasn't sure where Harry was or when I'd be able to sneak to him. Would my heart gallop in anticipation all day? I'd be exhausted surely, the beat in my chest was closer to a club banger than a slow jam. If my heart kept this up, I'd feel like I'd run a marathon.
My ticker sprinted to the finish line when the elevator opened and the 1D boys were standing waiting for it. A cry went up, lots of "oi, oi's" in a variety of accents.
My eyes were only for Harry though.
I had been in the front of the pack, just off center, staring at the off white barricade where it met at the center seam. The slide of the door revealed a mop of chocolate swirls and his head popped up too, his slightly too large eyes of moss met mine. Everyone behind me rushed out and bro hugs and shouts and back pats were exchanged. I stood and stared at Harry, until the doors started to close and he pulled from the arms around him, Luke's from the ink, to slide his hand into the closing crevasse. The doors tugged back and his hand closed around mine.
My face was hot and the breathe I took after 30 seconds of holding it was audible as he pulled me through the doors into the hallway and his arms. My left shoulder notched into his right arm pit and the loose tank top he was wearing meant my skin touched his. I exhaled big and shivered.
"Hey Melly," his breath moved my messy hair and I worried about what I smelled like. I figured I would be waiting hours to see him and that that time could include a shower. I wouldn't take it back.
"Hi Harry," the smell of his neck invaded my nostrils and I moved my nose back and forth against the warm summer skin of his neck. He clenched me tighter and I brushed my lips against him, accidentally I told myself.
He was pulled from my grasp and the welcomes continued until one of the boys minders, Paul, I think, reminded them that their car was waiting. I looked up when my boys headed down the hall and the other group moved towards the elevator. I started to hitch up the backpack I had dropped in the rush when a familiar hand found mine, the calloused tips, casualty of learning guitar, were something I had memorized.
The hard plastic slid between us, a drug dealer would be proud. "You look tired," his eyes glanced over the smudges under my eyes. "Get some rest."
I watched the doors meet again and found myself standing in the hallway long enough that the group that left had probably made it to the lobby, maybe to the car. I thought about what my pack had in it and thanked my self for thinking to have everything I'd need for a night away stashed there. If my brother was awake, I didn't want to draw attention to my packing, if he was asleep, I did not want to wait for my bags to make it upstairs.
"Would you sit the fuck down!" Michael exclaimed later. "Jesus, people are supposed to be tired after long flights, you are fucking vibrating." He ate his burger and glared at me.
"Why aren't you sleeping then?" I snarled back and sat across from him on the arm chair.
"Because my stomach was growling loud enough to wake the dead, let alone keep me up." He gestured to my untouched plate. "Are you not hungry?" His hand settled on my bouncing knee. "Quit," he grit and pointed to my plate.
I pushed the food around and ate a few fries. I was to anxious to eat.
The longest hour of my life later, my brother stretched and belched after finishing his beer. "I'm going to bed. Go to the gym or something, calm your ass down, Yeah? Tomorrow's busy."
I knew he was right, but I waited until his breathing steadied before I gathered my things and went into the shower. As I washed, I thought about Harry's boy smell, fresh from his shower — redolent of his bed time routine, and his hair as it brushed my cheek when he pulled back. He looked happy to see me. Absentmindedly, I washed my hair, and when I realized I was using body wash instead of shampoo I scoffed and pulled my head out of the fog.
I wiped the mirror and saw the dark bruises beneath my eyes. I didn't cover them though, I hoped to go to bed and now at least I was clean. I threw on some comfy shorts and one of the t shirts I had secreted away after the UK leg. My bag on my shoulder and his keycard in my hand, I tip toed across the hall. It was quiet, the 1D calcvacade was out and most of my group was asleep. I let myself into his room feeling as anxious as I had since we got off the plane. I worried my thumb ring until my skin was red.
His hotel room was empty, but his things were spread around. A guitar on the couch, the detritus from breakfast and a hoodie over the arm chair. I sighed, it felt like home. I made my way into the bedroom. The pillow smelled like his neck had and I was asleep before my head fully hollowed the pillow.

Disney Magic: Miami to Bahamas and Castaway Cay
Sharing our experience on the Disney Magic from Miami to the Bahamas and Castaway Cay.
Hi friends! Happy Monday! How was the weekend? I hope you had a great one. We’ve been enjoying Tucson’s spring-like weather and spending lots of time outside. We spent Saturday afternoon at the petting zoo and headed to Trail Dust Town to ride the rides before tacos and margaritas at Calle Tepa. Sunday, the girls had a birthday party and I also finally made our way through the epic mountain of unpacking + laundry from last week. I feel like I can *kinda* start the week caught up a bit on life.
For today’s post, I wanted to share a recap of our cruise!! It was our second Disney cruise and it didn’t disappoint. Disney just does so many things right: the experiences, dining, staff, cleanliness, everything is just top notch. I didn’t think we’d ever be “cruise people” – as a person with anxiety the very thought of being stuck in a boat in the middle of the ocean scares the sh*t out of me – and we’re officially obsessed. It’s our favorite way to travel right now. We get to see new places as a family, all while enjoying shows, characters, incredible dining and amenities, and even get some couple time since the kids LOVE kids club.
Here’s a recap of our trip!
Disney Magic: Miami to Bahamas and Castaway Cay
The Disney Cruise experience
We flew to Miami for this cruise and the entire boarding process was seamless. Since it was our second cruise, we were able to board the boat early, so we went straight to the pool. This was the quietest time at the pool during the entire cruise. (Pro tip: keep your swimsuits and a change of clothes in your backpack since you check your luggage at the port and don’t get it until a few hours later, when it’s waiting at your room.)
We previously cruised on the Disney Wonder and the Magic is the sister ship. The layout is almost exactly the same – the names of some of the lounges and restaurants are different – and it was nice to get on board and already know where everything was. After our swim, we grabbed lunch from Cabana’s and the girls at ice cream on the top deck until we checked into our rooms.
The rooms are pretty small, but I feel like they really maximize the space you do have. (We opted for a Deluxe Oceanview room which has a large porthole and split bathrooms.) The couch in the room transforms to a bunk bed for the kids – the stateroom host sets it up each night and puts everything back in the morning – and you can slide your suitcases under the bed. While the rooms are smaller, the beds are extremely comfortable and you have everything you need.
Our stateroom host surprised us with chocolates and towel animals each night, in addition to pirate bandanas and some extra little treats.
Dining options on the Disney Magic
The dining on the ship is out of control. It’s literally everything you could ever wish for, 24/7. Room service is included – you just need to tip – so if you want a Mickey bar delivered at midnight, you can live your best life and go for it. The dinner is on a rotation basis, so you dine at Animator’s Palate, Rapunzel’s, and Lumiere’s, and alternate each night. There are two seating options (5:45 and 8:30) and if you want to get Cabana’s, a quick bite, or room service, you’re not obligated to attend your seating time.
Here’s a rundown of the different restaurants and what they offer:
Cabana’s: Buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. They have everything you could ever wish for, plus different international dishes: chicken congee, Indian curries, Mexican food, so many different options. This is a great choice for breakfast because you don’t have to sit down at a restaurant and wait. You wake up, head to deck 9, and breakfast is waiting for you. Mickey waffles, omelettes, fruit, oatmeal, corned beef hash, breakfast potatoes, eggs, sausage, smoked salmon, pancakes, pastries, yogurt, and smoothies were available daily for breakfast, in addition to so many other things.
Daisy’s: Daisy’s De-lights includes more quick bite options like wraps, sandwiches, salads, soups, fresh chopped fruit, and you can also build a bowl from different healthy ingredients (lettuce, veggies, lentils, sun-dried tomatoes, etc.). We liked this for quick and easy lunches by the pool. Each day, the girls ate a fruit plate from Daisy’s with pineapple, cantaloupe, honeydew, and grapes.
Pinocchio’s: Pizza, veggie burgers, hot dogs, chicken tenders, and fries. The girls had pizza daily while we were there and everything is cooking out by the pool. I don’t remember seeing this but the Pilot said that next to Pinocchio’s they had gyros and falafel!
Formal dinner options: (the menus give you a choice for appetizer, salad/soup, entree, and dessert. You can mix and match as you like! For example, you can order two appetizers for your meal, skip the salad course, or order different entrees for the table to share.)
Rapunzel’s: Rapunzel’s was one of the more formal dining options. When we ate at Rapunzel’s, it was also Pirate Night, so the meal options were more creole style. I’m not sure what the regular menu looks like, but the food was excellent.
Lumiere’s: This is a French-style restaurant. I had some insanely delicious horseradish crusted salmon, lobster, and a salad. Liv was able to order escargots, which is one of her favorite foods.
Animator’s Palate: Animator’s was our first night on the ship and didn’t disappoint. For the longer cruises, they give you special placemats to draw a person. At the end of the night, they project all of the drawings onto the walls and make them dance to music. It’s SO fun! While they didn’t do that this time, they still had a special light show and sorcerer Mickey made an appearance.
They had this gluten-free chocolate walnut cake that was FROM MY DREAMS.
Dinner at Palo
While we were on the ship, we also had the opportunity to dine at the adult’s only restaurant, Palo. (You can make reservations for brunch or dinner.) It’s an upcharge of $40 per person plus any alcohol or specialty drinks, which felt extremely low considering everything they offered. They even wheeled a charcuterie cart around the restaurant and you could pick what you wanted!
Everything was wonderful, but the star of the show is the chocolate soufflé. The Pilot and I agreed that it was in the top three of best desserts we’ve ever had.
Entertainment and activities on board
There are SO many activities on the ship, from character greetings, to BINGO, to dance parties, silent discos, karaoke, and live Broadway-style shows. We were at the pool for a few hours each day, watching movies on the top deck, swimming, and snacking, before heading back inside to grab dinner.
We saw two shows on the ship – Tangled and Twice Charmed – and while they weren’t our favorites (the live shows at the parks are better quality), the girls LOVED them. We also did almost every round of BINGO and won once, which was exciting.
Castaway Cay
Everyone told us that Castaway Cay was incredible but I didn’t fully understand until we were there. The island is surrounded by clear, turquoise water, and there are lounge chairs and umbrellas as far as you can see. The sand is insanely soft, and the kiddos can borrow inner tubes, snorkel equipment and life jackets. You can also rent jet skis, paddle boats, kayaks, and paddle boards. They have full restaurants on the island (all included), the famous ice cream stands (you can make yourself an ice cream cone on the ship any time of day. They always have chocolate and vanilla and will rotate in a special flavor, like mango or strawberry), an entire stand of fresh chopped fruit (the mango was SOOOO fresh and good), kids club, a spa, luaus, and activities.
They have a 5k that morning that I registered to do, but it was raining and windy so I skipped it. The weather calmed down just enough for the girls to spend a couple of hours playing the water and building sand castles. It started to pour, so we hit under an umbrella until it blew over. Then, we had lunch at the restaurant (BBQ food with burgers, chicken, veggie burgers, sausages, potato salad, chips, coleslaw, and cookies, along with fresh fruit) and had the best time. I can’t wait to make it back one of these days!!
What to pack for a Disney Cruise
For this cruise, it was much warmer (in the 80s!!) so I only brought a jacket or hoodie for each of us. We wore an outfit for breakfast, our swimsuits and coverups all afternoon while we were at the pool, and then another outfit for dinner.
If you book a Disney cruise, I would absolutely check out what themed nights they’re doing. (Sometimes they do a Marvel night or Pirate Night, or there might by princess greetings or character breakfasts.) Our themed night was Pirate Party, so naturally, we all dressed up like pirates. The last night of the cruise is usually formal night, which can range from full sparkly dresses to just a cute dress and sandals. Really anything goes.
Some of my favorite things to pack for a cruise:
– Pop-up hamper (this is a game changer, especially for longer cruises. It makes it so easy to put your dirty clothes in one spot and just haul the entire basket to the laundry room)
– Laundry pods. I love bringing home a suitcase full of clean clothes! It’s less depressing to unpack when the clothes are clean.
– Door magnets. There are so many cute ones on Etsy!
– Your own sand bucket and beach toys. They have them on the island but so much easier and less expensive to bring your own.
– Placard Originals princess dresses. The girls have amassed quite the collection over the years. I love that they’re play fabrics instead of the itchy shiny fabrics that are usually used for princess costumes
– You can check out my full packing list for Disney Wonder to Alaska here!
Have you been on a cruise? Where did you go?
What’s the #1 place on your travel bucket list?
