#this not only destroy my career in USA because the severance contract prevented me from working for any company that had a link to them

I said this story before and I will said it again. When I got laid off from my first job because the company had not enough budget to keep me, I had learned two days prior that the two armchairs they bought for the waiting room/elevator hall when they did a big facelift to our office, was literally the equivalent of my annual salary.
Basically they choose two armchairs (they could have bought at IKEA) over an employee salary.
(In reality it was a post merger massive layoffs that I manage to survive from for almost a year and after trying everything they could to push me to quit on my own, they had no other option than to call on the budget excuse to justify my firing. But even without that, if the budget was indeed the main reason, it is enraging to know I was worth two armchairs while I could do the job of 10 people (a fact that had been acknowledged several times by my superiors))
every single time
